Behold the original trappist beer that brought heaven that much closer to earth. Fitting that the Chimay Rouge (7%) is also dubbed the Première. For the heathens who are unaware, beers that fall under the Trappist label get their name because they are brewed inside a monastery by Trappist monks. Aside from the other technical (mostly elitist) criteria that the 7 Trappist breweries demanded of each other to sport this accolade, the most important item of note is that the water used to brew these beers is being drawn from a well inside of a holy commune. Therefore the holy purity of this belgian strong ale is only rivaled by heaven's brand of rain, Hemel. We praise thee, O Monk, for keeping it godlike since 1862.

Delerium Tremens takes its name from the colloquial "DT's", "Shaking Frenzy", "Trembling Madness", "The Horrors", "The Fear", "The Rats" and possibly many other varieties of archaic fill-in descriptions for alcohol withdrawal. Their pink elephant design characterizes the corresponding symptomatic hallucinations of ethanol abuse. The beauty in this beer is in its surprising absence of flavour contrasted with it's relatively high alcohol content. To put it in my drinking cohort's words, "It's actually blowing my mind". At 8.4% they chose the right name for a light-bodied, citrusy-bubblegum flavoured beer. It is important to not fly by the seat of one's pants when dealing with this particular drink, or one may end up hurling pink elephants by the time they realize they were drinking a belgian strong ale rather than a citrusy wheat beer.
