19. A wound

River sighed, holding the Doctor's hand gently as she inspected his fingers in Med Bay. The skin was red and a little puffy, but overall it didn't look too bad, as far as burns go. "I told you to be careful, didn't I?" she asked, getting up to grab a bowl of water, antibiotic creme, and guaze. "You can't just grab pans out of the oven with your bare hands. And don't try to defend yourself, the evidence is right here," she scolded, setting his hand in the bowl of water.

When she looked up at him, his look of defeat nearly broke her hearts. "Sweetie," River said softly, waiting for his hesitant gaze to meet hers before she continued, "I hope you've learned your lesson." He nodded slowly and she smiled, pressing a kiss to his cheek.He was such a child sometimes - careless and impatient - but she loved him all the same.

Once she'd deemed his burns having soaked long enough, she bandaged him up and brought his fingers to her lips. "There we go. How's that?" And the look he gave her said it all.
