Hi there!
I have been rewatching MHA and came across many accounts that support bkdk. So i wanted to ask you the following:
Bakugo wanted to kill Izuku on their first day and during the bomb test. He tormented him for over 10 years, insulted him, bullied him, tortured him. Because he has "promise" Aizawa never called him out on his toxic behavior, but threatened Izuku with expulsion all the tims, labeling him as "problem child". All Might never did anything, even after Bakugo states, that he wanted to kill Izuku. Bakugo never faced a consequence for his oppressive behavior, he even bullied his so-called BakuSquad. (He got himself captured by the league and only denied their offer becUse they were "losers") Meanwhile, Izuku clearly shows signs of PTSD, wincing everytime when Bakugo was near him. Bakugo used so many explosions on him, he should be covered in scars. It's clear that he is Hori's favorite. The MHA fandom is pretty toxic, we all know this. Bakugo's "character evolution" didn't make him a better person. He never really changed or helped Izuku. When he "moved out of instinct" he did so because it's "instinct", because he trained so much. He didn't care that it was Izuku, he didn't think about it. After the second/ third season, the other characters just didn't care anymore about his behavior towars Izuku. Aoyama's parents wanted Aoyama to have a quirk to prevent him from being left out of society, so basically to protect him from people like Bakugo. He was the most privileged person (hit the genetic lottery, intelligent and rich parents). But still, MHA clearly shows that if you feel insecure you can bully and torture and there will be no consequences. I love Todoroki and Izuku much more, because they at least help and support each other. Shoto had a terrible childhood, but he never turned into an abuser. He never turned into his father. Bakugo's "excuse" towards Izuku was just laughable (makes the whole Sasuke/ Naruto episode after their big last fight look like true cinema). In the end, the fandom (and Hori) support an abuser/victim relationship.
Why do you support bkdk?
Their relationship gives people a false sense of what a victim of abuse should do. MHA never took Izuku's pain and past seriously. They portrayed Bakugo as "tsundere" instead of showing the real consequences of being the abuser for over a decade. Kirishima showed how to behave if you feel "unmanly" or "inadequate". Bakugo in the MHA world was a racist the minute he found out that Izuku didn't have a quirk. He victimized himself and tortured Izuku because he thinks that the world revolves around him. Shouta from "A silent voice" shows how to seek redemption and forgiveness. Bakugo just wanted to be Nr1 hero, but never a good one who saves people.
MHA clearly shows that you can bully someone, torture someone, torment someone- and you will never have to face consequences. A spit-out "sorry" after 10+ years of bullying and right after insulting someone's mental state is enough to be forgiven.
jesus christ lmao
See I could rebute your long ass essay and give my reasons for liking the ship, but you don’t actually care about what I have to say. I’m not going to spend my time defending myself to someone who’s arguing in bad faith. I spent years defending the ship, getting hate comments and death threats, and I’m not ever doing that shit again.
If you want to goad me into defending a dumb shonen ship, pay me $50. Until then, fuck off. Go find like-minded people under the “bakugou faces consequences” tag on ao3

hihihi!! i love your shinso texts and your writing style is amazing !!! i was wondering if you could maybe do some sick headcannons with him😖😖
SICK HEADCANNONS WITH HIM ⸻ hitoshi shinso
INCLUDES — gn! reader, headcannons, fluff, slight crack
main masterlist — mha masterlist ༊*·˚
IF YOU FELL SICK . . .
when you fall sick, 90% of the time it's one that could have been avoided if you had listened to shinso's advice. perhaps you were sick today because you had gone out on that rainy day yesterday despite shinso's warnings.
shinso can tell something is wrong when you randomly don't reply to his messages in the afternoon and so he decides to visit your room.
when he finds you laying on your bed, he shakes his head and checks your temperature through your forehead with the back of his hand.
"i told you so" "shut up"
and thus the afternoon turns into shinso being your personal nurse.
he makes sure you're wrapped up in your blanket properly, closing the windows to keep out the cold air.
he'd even put on some fuzzy cat socks on your feet after seeing you try to rub your freezing toes on your blanket in an attempt to defrost them.
will not leave your side at all.
makes sure you've drank enough water and taken your meds properly.
will even cook you a nice warm soup, spoon feeding you gently.
he will nag you to take care of yourself and how stupid it was of you to go out, all while lovingly caressing your hair and being at your beck and call.
you found it a bit silly that he was getting so worried about a little cold you had, but were grateful nonetheless.
after he makes sure that you're comfortable, he will climb into bed with you despite your complaints that he will get sick too.
will cuddle with you, giving your body extra warmth until the two of you drift off to sleep.
IF HE FELL SICK . . .
whenever shinso falls sick, it's mostly because of him overworking his body while training which results in him losing his voice and having body aches.
he thinks hes soo slick by texting you that he's going to bed early so you won't know he's sick. THE shinso hitoshi going to bed early?? not possible.
in under 5 minutes you are knocking on his door. when he unlocks the door for you, you find him looking even more tired than he usually does. his room is in bit of a mess, he hasn't changed out of his uniform and your suspicions are confirmed.
after some nagging and pushing you finally got shinso down into his bed, clearing it up a bit before standing up with a satisfied grin.
"don't worry kitten, daddy will take care of you" "..leave me alone"
he still thinks he should be able to take care of himself but his body aches too much to even move so he reluctantly lets you do whatever you want.
you cook him some soup and herb tea, just like he does when you're sick.
you even put on some songs that he likes in a low and comfortable volume as you busied yourself in cleaning up his room a little.
shinso's eyes follow wherever you go, drinking his soup slowly. he has always kept to himself whenever he fell ill but having someone take care of him and his space mades him feel a bit fuzzy inside.
he won't admit it out loud though.
you stay by his side, caressing his purple locks gently, ignoring the forced glare he has on you because you were so close to him and he was getting nervous he didn't want you to catch his fever.
he's like a silent grumpy cat when he's sick, motioning that he can do things by himself but you never listen anyway.
when he does get better, he will take you out on a little date or shower you with affection. again he will not admit it out loud but he really is thankful that you take care of him when he's sick.
NOTE — helloo i didn't know if you were requesting for shinso to be sick or for the reader to be sick so i did both!!

Caregiver!Tenya Iida Headcanons
A/N: This isn’t something anybody requested, but I’m really getting back into MHA, and I love Iida, so I’m gonna write about it anyway. <3
I don’t think Iida knew about age regression before he met you. But once you tell him about it, he researches more about it as soon as possible. He loves you and it sounded really important to you, so he wants to fully understand what it is.
After he’s done researching, if you don’t bring it back up for a while, he’ll just come up to you and ask you if you have a caregiver. When you say “no” he just asks “well, do you want me to be your caregiver?”
Just. Casually. Like it’s nothing.
And of course, you say yes.
It’s a learning process for both of you when you first regress around him. He immediately asks how old you are and you hold up 2 fingers.
You’re so little, he panics a little bit. But it’s fine! He learns what to do eventually.
He’s so gentle and kind. He’s LARGE and STRONG so he’s constantly worried about accidentally hurting you.
Buys you literally anything and everything you want. He’s rich, so he can afford it. He barely even looks at the price before he’s adding it to his cart.
If you ever feel guilty about it, he always assures you that it’s fine. He’s more than well off. He’s got more than enough money to handle it.
He’s VERY strict. You must got to bed by at least 10pm, wake up at 6am on school days, eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner every single day, and drink enough water. You also have to give him an update on your day at the end of every day. And you aren’t allowed to play until you’ve finished your homework. He always helps you, though!
He loves to call you “sweetheart”. I dunno why but I think he’d use this pet name A LOT.
Always holds your hand if you guys are going in public anywhere or really just outside of either of your rooms.
Like, he’ll be gripping your hand even if you guys are just going into the dorm common room.
The first time you gave him a picture you drew/colored, he almost fainted. He felt so special. He keeps it on his room in his wall.
Whenever he can’t take care of you, either Midoriya or Todoroki take care of you. You started calling them your uncles. Midoriya makes it clear that he really likes it and feels honored. Todoroki seems indifferent but secretly is very happy about it.
Sometimes they’ll all watch you at the same time. That’s always fun. Especially when you make them play with you.
You always manage to stay up past your bed time whenever they come over.
Midoriya is a sucker and when he watches you, it isn’t hard to get him to let you bend the rules a bit.
You can’t tell Tenya, though. BOTH of you will get a lecture and Midoriya might not be allowed to watch you for a while.
Tenya likes being called parental names a LOT. But, if you just wanna call him his name or a different name, that’s fine! It’s about you and your comfort!
He picks you up. A lot. Like I said, he’s super strong. He uses it to his advantage because he knows it makes you feel even smaller.

Another day, another discourse comparing and contrasting Shoya and Shoko’s relationship in A Silent Voice with Katsuki and Izuku’s relationship in My Hero Academia.
At the end of the day, you’ll never get a 1:1 comparison with these two cases due to the fact that 1) They belong to vastly different genres, 2) One is far longer than the other and 3) One is a grounded character drama and coming of age tale.
But…
I think that A Silent Voice provides a fairly good basis for judging the way MHA handles the relationship development of two characters, where one used to bully the other and an arc of atonement occurs. More importantly, comparisons to A Silent Voice highlight the shortcomings of Katsuki and Izuku’s relationship development and allows me to understand and actually communicate what I don’t like about the way the story handles it.
In my opinion, what sets these two stories apart in the way they handle the atonement arcs of their respective bullies is the way they portray consequences. The big “C” word tends to elicit a hostile reaction from certain fans, who assume that your idea of consequences must necessarily involve the bully character being gratuitously punished and made to suffer as retribution for their past actions. But a consequence is just the “result or affect of an action or condition” and can range in severity, it can have many different effects.
A Silent Voice uses social consequences to prompt change from its main character. Shoya’s bullying results in him being shunned by his classmates and friends, and the story goes to great lengths to show how his actions not only hurt his victim, but that they also hurt people he cared about. His mom has to reimburse Shoko’s mom for the damaged hearing aids (when she is already short on money) for example. Furthermore, the knowledge of his past is something that impacts the way others perceive him, and that change in perception is essential to his arc.
More importantly, A Silent Voice makes it clear to the viewer/reader that despite Shoko generally being a kind and forgiving person, the bullying still hurt her deeply enough to leave a long lasting impression. Shoko is receptive to Shoya’s will to change, but the story doesn’t ignore that Shoko suffered greatly and that the bullying made her sad, frustrated and even angry. Her negative emotions are not overshadowed by her desire to see Shoya become a better person.
The thing that holds me back from enjoying Katsuki and Izuku’s relationship development is the lack of consequences Bakugou receives for his bullying (which is directly connected to the way the narrative denies Izuku both agency and introspection) The hard truth is that Bakugou faces little to no consequences for his past behaviour, and one would think that such a topic would have to be brought up at some point because, ya know…he goes to a hero school. A HERO school, a place where people train to be role models, help people on a large scale and protect those who cannot protect themselves.
The first scene we see with Bakugou depicts him as the opposite of a hero. A mean bully who beats up people weaker than him, and this is emphasized by the fact that he targets Izuku, who has no means of defending himself. Despite this, he gets into UA, which isn’t necessarily a problem because it communicates a major flaw in the system that cultivates heroes (Overlooking certain problematic traits in favour of innate talent and strength) BUT, the information that he used to be a bully never comes up among his classmates in any major or lasting way. We saw his classmates, and even his new friends discuss or think about how much they abhor bullying. The students of class 1A do not like it when people abuse their strength to pick on those weaker than them…yet that never seems to connect back to Bakugou’s past as a bully.
This issue is exacerbated by the lack of attention given to Izuku’s side of the story. In stories that involve the atonement or redemption of a bully, it is CRITICAL that the victim’s side of the story is treated as something equally important to the bully’s side. It’s not something that can just be overshadowed by the bully’s side, it must be focused on in order for the atonement arc to work.
It’s disappointing that Izuku lacks the introspection that Katsuki gets, and very unsatisfying that it effectively lets Katsuki off the hook for literally every bad thing he’s ever done. The ways the bullying might’ve impacted Izuku for the worst is hardly ever discussed because every time the narrative approaches the topic, it always pivots to Izuku praising Katsuki for the things he did right. This is a big problem, because it silences any discussion that focuses on Izuku’s feelings and shines the spotlight on Katsuki instead.
Before I end my little tangent, I also feel the need to say this: Pointing to any instance of Katsuki’s suffering throughout the series IS NOT EVIDENCE OF CONSEQUENCES! Any bad thing will happen to Katsuki and people will proceed to say: “SEE?! Did you see that?? Katsuki HAS faced consequences! How can you say that he never faced consequences for his actions? Why do you want him to suffer?” It’s so disingenuous and it’s a terrible argument that refuses to criticize the text.

KiriBaku x Reader
Little MHA drabble! Would love to explore this dynamic more in the future as things come to mind.
Context: Characters are aged-up to their mid-20s! Both Bakugou and Kirishima are full-time Pro-Heroes. Reader and Bakugou were together before adding Kiri into the mix :) No physical traits are mentioned for reader, but it is assumed in this drabble that reader is AFAB.
Let me know what you think!
“Hey, Kats?” You questioned as you peered up from your book, eyes boring into the side of your blonde boyfriend’s face as he read something on his phone. Kirishima had been gone all morning while Bakugou kept you company on his day off. You two were currently sprawled on the couch, your feet resting in his lap as you read your book and he responded to important emails.
Bakugou simply hummed, letting you know that he was listening as he typed away, brows scrunched together. You wiggled your feet nervously, laying your book down on your chest and clearing your throat before speaking again. “Did you um…I mean, were you nervous when you first fucked Eiji?” You felt your cheeks heating up as you spoke, doing anything to avoid his gaze as you heard your boyfriend sigh and set his phone down before peering at you.
“Honey, you’ve had sex with Eijirou before.” He stated in a bored tone, red eyes staring you down and commanding your attention.
You finally turned to meet his gaze, gnawing on the inside of your cheek for a second as you thought your next words over. “Yeah…I guess…but I haven’t…I mean we haven’t done it one-on-one yet.” You mumbled, almost too quiet for him to hear.
“And what’s stopping you? Do you just feel like you’re maybe not there yet? There’s no rush for anything, you know, we’re getting adjusted to this new dynamic.”
“I don’t think it’s that,” You sighed, “I definitely want to. I think I just get a little freaked out because we’ve never done it alone before and the one time we all slept together, he didn’t um…I didn’t have him inside me, and he’s umm…-” Your body felt like it was on fire with the embarrassment of having this conversation. Bakugou knew from experience that you were far from being a prude, having had you in many compromising positions himself. However, you were finding that you had a hard time opening up about your nerves when it came to boning your other boyfriend for the first time. It had only been a few weeks since the two of you had decided to start dating the redhead, and you were still getting used to having two men to care for rather than one. Not to mention, the fact that you were still in the awkward stage of dating Eijirou, having to transition from being really good friends with him to something more romantic.
“Got a monster cock?” Bakugou finished for you, a knowing smirk on his face. “Don’t worry, Princess, if I can take it up the ass, I promise you’ll be okay.” He chuckles, leaning over to pinch your thigh as you squeal.

MHA 409 Review — The Extra and the Pebble
Ch 409 is a really interesting continuation of the action in 405-406, prior to the AFO backstory in 407-408. These few panels of Yoichi and AFO in the OFA-AFO mind palace (406 on the right; 409 on the left) tell us a LOT about AFO and how he’s been affected by Katsuki.
I’m not even sure what’s left of AFO. Is he fully baby-fied now? Is he down on the ground like Toya and Himiko? Throughout the chapter, it looked like AFO was gaining a pupil in his right eye, which is the one Katsuki doesn’t have at the moment. Is this just clever art mirroring or hinting at AFO’s next move????
Unlike 407-408, this chapter focuses on Katsuki. I don’t think it tells us something we didn’t already know — Katsuki was born to a couple with a happy, functional marriage who loved and wanted him. He has a strong and versatile quirk. He’s powerful, smart, and strategic. And yet, at the start of the story all those advantages combined made him more of a brat than a hero. But it’s different now. The final page really shows how Katsuki has connected it all. See how the lines of his explosion frame the rest of the page? How the left line points directly to his dialogue about not being alone? And below Katsuki are all the influences that have supported him — All Might, his parents, and Yoichi/OFA (via Izuku).
Katsuki is going all out at the end, breaking his right arm (again) but able to pull off one last huge blast due to the brace All Might gave him (like Izuku using Melissa’s gauntlets in Two Heroes). If his gambit of dropping sweat beads in AFO’s mouth didn’t pay off, he would have delivered the blast sooner, but luckily his ploy worked.
FWIW, Katsuki dropped the beads in AFO’s mouth right when AFO was shouting about Kudou and Katsuki said his name was Kacchan, because Kacchan is a clever kid.
Katsuki is also acknowledging directly that he could not have soloed AFO. Even though he’s awesome, there’s a limit to what he (or ANY one person, including All Might) could do alone. Seeing as Yoichi’s message to Izuku has always been, “You are not alone,” it further emphasizes how Katsuki has grown to adopt the spirit of OFA. The kid who thought needing help was a sign of weakness, and who thought Izuku holding out a hand was mocking him, now understands the importance of accepting that hand. Standing on the shoulders of giants helps one see further. :)
Moreover, Katsuki is now motivated by helping Izuku and getting out of Izuku’s way. Izuku isnt the pebble in Katsuki’s path — Katsuki is the one in the way of Izuku. Back when 362 dropped, I wrote about how Katsuki’s death was very Buddhist in that he had to lose all his physical attachments (including his body and quirk) to achieve a spiritual awakening. It seems like that worked, and now Katsuki is genuinely, truly appreciating all the gifts he has, as well as his role as a piece of something bigger. He’s no longer demanding that others get out of his way, but rather thinking about when HE has to move for someone else. The kid who pathologically couldn’t walk behind someone else is now able to get out of his own way AND clear the path for others.
This fits the pattern we’ve seen numerous times in the final arc with a hero accepting a villain’s taunt in order to defeat them. Of course Katsuki takes a different tactic than, say, Shoto (“A half-baked dummy, that’s me”). Katsuki yells he’s the final boss, he’s not a filler character, etc. But the point is the same. Katsuki is accepting he has one quirk; he’s NOT physically bound to the OFA-AFO quirk; he IS a pebble compared to AFO. His role IS to support Izuku….and it takes absolutely nothing away from him whatsoever. Katsuki has his stupid awesome quirk, his intelligence, his strength, his commitment, and people who care about him. He can play his part to the best of his ability and deliver a big win for the heroes.

lately i’ve seen some ppl talking abt how the scene where shiggy and compress cut off overhauls arms is pointless.
i 100% don’t think so because it shows that the lov have motivations outside of destruction and dismantling society.
(you could say that their personal motivations already show that but they all relate to destruction or dismantling society in one way or another.)
ppl say that it was just to get overhaul out of the way and yeah maybe it was but my point still stands.
they intercepted the convoy not to try and take overhaul or anything like that, but simply for revenge.
(yes ik they killed a pro hero but that was just a symptom of their goal, and im more specifically talking abt the taking of overhauls arms anyway.)
the need for justice or revenge is probably one of the most human things someone can experience.
the feeling of being wronged and no one doing anything about it so you feel the need to take things into your own hands. it’s something that everyone has or will probably experience at least once in their life.
compress takes overhauls left arm as revenge for taking his own. and shigaraki takes his right arm as revenge for killing magne.
the hero’s and basically anyone who’s not in the league don’t know how much they care about one another.
they’re a family, a very strange family, but a family nonetheless.
but no one understands that, they don’t understand why they go to such lengths to save each other. because they don’t think villains are capable of feelings other than hate and anger.
so that scene shows that they cared enough about someone to get revenge on her killer. that they didn’t just see her as a random co-worker. she was their big sis, she was their friend.
tl;dr the scene (probably unintentionally knowing isayama) very subtly show the lov’s humanity. it also makes me wanna cry and throw up aggressively.
anyway thanks for listening to my rant
I can't help but think that a reason as to why overhaul was taken out by the leauge was also to get him out of the plot so he wouldn't be too op but I do actually agree and see your point.
No I don't think that the scene was useless but I do actually have some problems with the build up to that scene.
Overhaul losing his arms is ironic especially after he made compress lose an arm. Compress and the league got revenge and like you fantastically worded revenge and anger are very human emotions. The problem I have is that there isn't much material we have on magne. Her death didn't evoke much on the readers and it wasn't a huge talking point within the league. I get the point that her death was supposed to serve but I just wish that we have more material of her before she died.
Magne's death is also supposed to be the first death we see on screen so it does end up being a bit underwhelming since we're still so distant from the character.
Sure there is like one scene that shows that the league were close with magne which is when toga and twice correct overhaul when he misgenders her but then again my point stands that we needed more material before and after her death to really drive the point home.
The overhaul arc is the first true dark arc of MHA. This is the first arc where shigaraki asserts his role as leader and the parallels between overhaul and shigaraki drive that clear. At the end shigaraki is presented to be the much more caring leader whereas overhaul would do anything for his goal shigaraki actually cares for his team.
Shigarakis actions do matter because by doing what he did he shows the leauge that he cares for them and that anyone that harms them would be punished. This helps shigaraki build trust with the league, trust that he maybe lost after the training camp arc and magne's death.
Ironically this scene manages to humanise the lov in more ways than one. Yes, the league of villains are humanised by their feelings of anger and wanting to get revenge for what happend to compress and magne but we as the audience are also aware of just how much of a bad person overhaul is. We as the audience are aware of what Eri had to go through and we're also aware of overhauls hypocrisy so we look at the scene in a way which the leauge are serving both revenge and justice and we also end up feeling satisfied and joyful when we see what the league does to overhaul rendering him completely useless.
#mha critical#bnha critical#mha#horikoshi critical#bhna critical#bnha#lov#thanks for the ask#thanks for the ask!#love the rant#just wanted to add on to it a bit#i wish we had more material of magne#i think that we still needed more build up of the league and their dynamic

Take Care of It Myself Pt. 3 - Kaminari x Reader
Main Masterlist ~ MHA Maserlist ~ #2
Pt. 1 Pt. 2 2751 words + Denki start to go down hill after everything. Enough that, even though they're are mad at him, the Bakusquad is supper worried about him. It gets to the point where Kiri calls Y/N for help and they come as fast as possible to check on and take care of their best friend.
3rd POV
Denki had been majorly down in the dumps since Y/N had left so abruptly. He was still chiding himself for what he did and was nowhere near letting up on himself. Not even a little bit. Even though everyone else, minus Mineta, was upset with him for what he did, they were starting to grow worried. In his stupor, he began to eat less and less while spacing out more than usual. He didn’t even bother Shinsou after he joined the class. He did nothing but hold himself up in his room, wallowing.
“I am starting to get really, really worried about Denks.” Mina said while leaning against the back of the couch next to Sero. He looked up at her before nodding.
“Me too. I mean what he did was shitty but he’s really got me concerned. He’s almost wasting away.” Sero looked at the rest of the group. Bakugou was sitting on the couch across from them while Kiri was sitting on the floor. The two silently agreed.
“I’ve talked to Y/N and they’ve agreed to talk to him at some point but if I tell them how bad he is, maybe they will come sooner.” Kiri suggested.
“Yeah, but only if they are comfortable with it. Don’t force them to do anything they don’t want too.”
“Of course!” Kiri hopped up and pulled out his phone. “Let me just call them.”
“Tell them we miss them!” Mina yelled, hopping up and down. She lost her balance and fell over the top of the couch and into Sero.
“Geez Mina!” He yelped, laughing. Kiri shook his head, holding the phone to his ear.
“Hey Kiri.” The familiar voice distracted him from the other three.
“Hey, Y/N.” He went over to stand by the window.
“What’s up?”
“I know you were waiting ‘til the right time to talk to Denki but there’s something you need to know.”
“Is he alright? Is he hurt? Was there a quirk accident?” They shot off question in quick succession, barely breathing in between.
“No, he not hurt and no there was no quirk accident but he’s not alright.” It was silent for a minute.
“How bad is he?”
Y/N’s POV
I quickly jogged away from the train station towards the school. I made it to the road and saw Kiri waiting by the gate on the other side of the road. I looked both was before running across when it was clear. Kiri saw me and waved before letting me through.
“I got here as fast as I could.”
“It’s fine. I’m just glad you came.” I walked beside him as we quickly made way to the dorms. What Kiri had said over the phone was really worrying me. Denki hadn’t been this low in a long time. Not since he lost his grandfather on his dad’s side. They were very close ad it crushed Denki when he passed.
“I feel bad for…”
“Don’t. You don’t have to feel bad for protecting yourself. Denki would say the same thing.” Kiri set a hand on my shoulder, stopping me. “It proves you still care about him just by being here. So don’t be upset with yourself for any of this.”
“Okay.” We continued walking until we got to the dorms. He asked me to wait outside before going in to check on where Denki was. He stepped back out after a couple of minutes to bring me in.
“He is up in his room with Sero.” He said. I nodded and we took the elevator up. I tapped my foot impatiently. Once on the floor, we walked towards his room. I paused mid-step before his room. Taking a big breath, I tried to psych myself up to go in. “Hey. I can go in with you.”
“No. I got this. I need to be alone with him.” I assured him.
“Okay but Sero and I will be right outside if you need us.”
“Thank you.” The door was open and I peeked inside. Sero was sitting on the bed, elbows on his knees while Denki was on his balcony, looking out. His hair was completely deflated and almost dull in color. It wasn’t really noticeable from where I was standing but he had lost some weight too. I sighed before stepping in. Sero looked at me and his shoulders relaxed. He got up and met me at the door.
“Thank god you’re here.” He whispered, looking back at Denki. “We were really getting concerned about him.”
“That’s what I heard. Kiri explained things over the phone.” I said, hushed. He nodded before looking over his shoulder at the blonde for a moment.
“It’s good to see you, Y/N.” He pulled me into a side hug before giving me a swift kiss on the head. He quickly left shutting the door behind him. I took a big breath before turning to look at the back of the boy. I watched him for a moment before I noticed the quivering of his shoulders. I listened closely and heard sniffles to go along with it.
“Damn.” He was crying. I bit my lip, going back and forth with what to do before ultimately going with just giving him a hug. I walked up behind him and wrapped my arms around his waist, burying my face in his back. I felt him freeze up in my arms before the quiet sniffles turned into full on sobs.
“Fuck…” He gasped, grabbing onto my arms for dear life. I could feel tears fighting their way up at the sound of his sobs. His legs seemed to give out slowly as we descended to the floor. I let him cry as long as he needed to. After a while of us just sitting here, he calmed down enough to catch his breath. I went to move away but his already tight grip got tighter. “No!”
“Shh. I’m not going anywhere. I promise. Just come inside. It’s getting cold and you don’t need to be out here. Please come with me.” It took him a minute before letting me go. I took my arms away before immediately sticking a hand out in front of him to help him up. He grabbed it with both hands and got up on shaky legs. “There we go.”
“Y/N…”
“Shh, shh. Come on.” I pulled him inside. Shutting the door, I guided him to his bed. Upon sitting down, he wrapped his arms around my middle and buried his head in my stomach. I paused in surprise before running my hands through his hair. I grimaced at the greasy feeling and the knots but kept going anyway.
“I am a hypocrite.” He mumbled but I could barely catch it.
“What Denks?” He gasped and hiccupped before looking up at me with glassy eyes.
“I am a hypocrite. I need you as much as you need me. I’m just too much of a coward to say it.” He started sobbing again and I got on the bed with him. He curled up in my lap. “I am so, so, so, so flipping sorry! I should have never had said that. It is by no means true in anyway. I was just g-getting so overwhelmed with everything. Aizawa and grades, my grandmother being her usual self, and Mineta getting on my case for something that was none of his business just made me shut down basically. I, I, I didn’t mean what I said but…”
“Denki, hey, calm down please. You’re panicking.” His breathing pick up tremendously and I pulled his head up to see his eyes blown way out. I made him sit up and put his head in the crook of my neck. “Breath for me Denks.”
“But, but…”
“No, no. Sh. We can talk later when you’re better. You’re already way too far gone for this right now. It’ll be too much.” I nuzzled my cheek against his head.
“Okay.” He nodded before relaxing into me more and trying to slow his breathing. I started to take big breaths and he began to match them.
“Alright, there we go. Once, you get calmed down and relaxed. I want you to go take a nice long, hot shower okay?” He nodded. “While you’re in the shower I am going to make you some food. You need to get some food in you.”
“Alright.” After agreeing with me, we were silent until his breathing went back to normal and the crying subsided. I got up and went to pick out some clothes for him to change into.
“Come on.” I pulled him up and handed him the clothes. Leading him out of the room, we were met with Kiri and Sero, keeping true to their word. “Hey guys. Can one of you go with Denki down to the showers? Just don’t want him alone right now. I am going to go make him his some food.”
“Yeah, course. I’ll go with him.” Sero said, pushing off the wall.
“Thank you.” I smiled before all 4 of us made our way downstairs. Bakugou, Mina, Uraraka, and Midoriya were all in the common room when we made it down.
“L/N!” Midoriya called in surprise. I smiled as the others turned to see me. I waved but kept guiding Denki towards the showers.
“I’ll take him from here.” Sero said before wrapping an arm his shoulders. Denki grabbed my forearm gently, looking at me with puppy eyes.
“I’m not going anywhere. I am just going to be in the kitchen. I promise.” With that assurance, he finally let go and I went into the kitchen. I looked around to see what we had to make.
“Making something for Spark plug?” I turned to see Bakugou coming in. Nodding, I rummaged through the pantry. “I think we have some stuff to make burgers. I know there his favorite.”
“Okay.” We worked silently together to make the burger. He insisted on making enough for both me and Denki, arguing with me that I need to think for myself too. By the time we finished, I could hear Denki talking to someone in the common room. “Thanks Bakugou.”
“Whatever.” He muttered but I could see the ghost of a smile on his face. I took the plates and walked through the room. As I entered, I heard Denki’s faint laugh. Looking up, I saw a small smile on his face as he talked with Midoriya.
“He’s feeling better already.” I jumped slightly before looking to my right to see Kiri standing there. “You two seem to have that effect on each other.”
“Yeah.”
“You know, once everything is okay between you two, you should really tell him how you feel about him.” I looked at him stunned.
“W-what are you talking about?”
“L/N, I have gotten to know you both really well. I can see how you feel for him.” He said. There was a flash of emotion in his eyes. It almost looked like sadness or longing. “I am pretty sure he’s going to return them. So go for it.”
“Alright.” I agreed slowly with a nod.
“Y/N?” Denki’s voice distracted me.
“Come on. Let’s go back up to your room to eat. Okay?” I asked him. He nodded and I notice his still soaking wet hair. Sighing, I led the way. Once up in his room, I told him to sit on the ground next to his bed. I handed him his plate and set mine aside. Grabbing his towel from his neck, I began to softly dry his hair.
“I am a hypocrite.” I paused for a second as he repeat his statement from earlier before continuing. “Here I am sitting here, need you to take care of me while I said it was annoying that you needed me to do the same things for you.”
“A little bit yeah.” He sighed, letting his head fall back into my lap.
“I blinded myself from seeing how much we need each other because we need each other for different reasons. I told myself that you needing for my help for you social anxiety was irrelevant and annoying. But if that was the case…me needing your help with my depressive states would be just as irrelevant and annoying to you.”
“Denki…”
“No, please.” He took a shaky breath. He reached up and grabbed my hand tight. “You have never been a nuisance to me and I could never get tired of helping you. I never wanted to make you feel like you couldn’t come to me when you got anxious or run down. I messed up just because I wanted to try and act cool. I should have never played into Mineta’s words and defended you like I always do. I am so sorry, Y/N.” He had his eye scrunched up, afraid of my response.
“Denki.” He closed them ever tighter. I smiled a little bit before leaning down and pressing a kissed to his forehead. His eyes shot open and looked at me in shock. “Thank you for apologizing. I am not going to say its fine because it isn’t but you’re forgiven. You still have to earn my trust back though.”
“Of course.” He turned around on his knees to look at me. “I’ll do whatever it takes. I promise.”
“Okay.” I smiled.
“Now you eat too.” He reached over and grabbed my plate, handing it to me.
“Thank you.” We both began to eat silently. After we finished, Denki set the plates on his desk. I sat back against his pillows and he set his head in my lap again. I began to run my fingers through his now clean hair. After about 15 minutes of silence, I figured Denki had fallen asleep. “I love you Denki. With every fiber of my being. More than just a friend.”
“Ep!” He stiffened in my lap and I froze.
“You’re awake?!” I gasped.
“Yes!” He sat up and stared at me. I blushed and looked down. This wasn’t the right time to confess my feelings. I felt him gently grip my chin and lift my head. “Did you mean it?”
“Yes. I did. I’m in love with you.” I said. He stared at me for a moment before leaning forward to kiss me. I gasped before kissing back softly, cupping his face.
“I love you too.” He said breathlessly as he pulled back. Tears prickled my eyes as my heart swelled. I giggled and pulled him into a swift kiss. He laid back down in my lap and I could basically feel the joy radiating off him. “You know, I had thought you had a crush on someone else.”
“Who?” I asked.
“Kiri.”
“Kiri?” I said surprised.
“Yeah. You two got close and I saw how you were getting comfortable with him around, so I thought it was possible. Plus I know he does have a crush on you.”
“Really?” He nodded. I was stunned but thought about it. The sad emotion that went through his eyes earlier made more sense now. “Oh.”
“You okay?” He turned in my lap to look up at me. I nodded.
“I hate breaking his heart. He don’t deserve that.” I said solemnly. Denki got a sad look on his face and nodded. He sat there quiet before a spark of an idea lite up in his face. “What?”
“Maybe we don’t have too.”
“What do you mean?” I was confused.
“Don’t worry about it for now.” He kissed the tip of my nose. I saw the look of Denki Kaminari mischief in his eyes and decided to leave it alone for now.
“Okay.” I sighed before Denki yawned. “I think it’s time for bed.”
“Yeah.” He sat up and we moved to get under the duvet. This wasn’t the first time we have shared a bed so it wasn’t awkward. He set his head on my chest and held me tight against him.
“Goodnight Denks.”
“Night babe.” He fell asleep for real this time and I chuckled on how quick he was out. Someone poked their head in and I saw the red hair.
“How you doing?” He asked.
“Shh.” I shushed him. He grimaced and cover his mouth. He chuckled and gave me a smile with two thumbs up. He shuts the lights off for me and closes the door behind him. I watch him go and sigh. This only made me wonder what Denki had up his sleeve with Kiri now.

why do I see more art dedicated to overhaul than AFO this is just so wrong.
I mean yeah overhaul was a great villain but- 😭🙏🏼 AFO IS BETTER
and he’s basically main protagonist (it’s sort of hard for me to tell whether AFO or Tomura was because in the end, AFO WAS the last final bad guy to beat- the big bad boss right so??)
I WANT MORE FANART OF AFO WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO US
Urggfggg ya AFO is the final VILLAIN for sure. Tomura may be the main antagonist but AFO is literally the antithesis of every important thing that ever happens in MHA so he’s the true final villain. It’s pretty clear that Tomura’s main conflict with Izuku was supposed to result in him being saved, not defeated (sighhh). I don’t really have a grasp on how popular overhaul is, but maybe people like him more as a villain because he directly fought with Izuku? And his aesthetic perhaps. You have to be obsessed with the narrative to be obsessed with AFO, cause a lot of his appeal is that he lurks in the background for most of the story, but has an undeniable effect on everything nonetheless. But the mha fandom notoriously doesn’t care about any of that so 😞

Waking up in a cold sweat thinking about all the parallels in MHA and how everything comes around full circle; and we’re seeing it especially prominently right now in the Togachako plotline, where Ochako and Uraraka are both doing the same things for each other that they’ve done for Deku, but with positive outcomes. (One example: Uraraka grabbing Deku to calm him did not work, but it worked with Toga). Realizing that the one thing that hasn’t come around yet is Himiko asking Ochako to be her girlfriend, like she asked Deku to be her boyfriend. Despite her clear and known feelings, she’s never actually straight up asked. And if the pattern continues as Himiko and Ochako having better results with each other than they ever had with Deku; than the only possible outcome is for Ochako to say yes….Hori what are you doing
ITS SO
It’s
ITS SO SO BAOSBSISKSIHAHSBBSBBSBDHHDH
I’m so excited to see togas reply, I’m so excited to see deku vs shigaraki’s fight, I’m so excited to see how bakugou is resurrected, im so excited for everything.
Regardless of everything, I know it in my heart Himiko is gonna ask her to be her girlfriend, will you accept her Ochako? Will you become selfish in the face of a society that expects you to be on a constant performance?
I live in a very pessimistic view of the world, I try NOT to have it and it’s the reason why this account has always tried to stay hopeful. It’s why I try to constantly convince the people around me. All so that I can ask the question, “Do you really think this will happen?” And the answer has more recently been “Yes”. It feeds me into a cycle I created in order to become a more positive person. I think being pessimistic and angry at the world is common for people of my age group, hell, even people into their 20’s, maybe even 30’s. It can fester deep into adulthood, possibly the rest of your life. Negativity and hopelessness thrive in the absence of support and love.
It’s that same lesson mha tries to teach us. Pessimism and ego are the root to the problem, whatever that problem may be. From controlling human emotion, being overly, even unnecessarily sacrificial, holding your power back, not being able to see your own limits, being in love, all of it has always been something solvable through love and support.
I think all of the problems I’ve listed, along with all the characters they’re tied to, are in one way or another tied to ego or pessimism.
And it’s THIS that I keep on loop in my head. The selfishness, parallels, evidence, whatever the fuck doesn’t matter half as much to me as trying to control what power I have over the story—which is how I react to it. It doesn’t matter if I’m right or wrong, it doesn’t matter if this all tears down in a wonderful hellscape of a fire and I get my ego burned for a few weeks, what matters is that I let myself be HAPPY about something, even if that something is not guaranteed. This whole thought process hits so much closer to me right now. It’s something I’ve thought for… basically the entire time I’ve been on tumblr, but it’s been on the back burner because for the first time I’ve realized there’s no more time left. Mha doesn’t have a billion chapters leading up to this fight at all, Toga and Ochako are having their ending story right now. No matter how much I find, no matter how much I theorize, it ultimately doesn’t MATTER ANYMORE.
And yet, I still don’t care. It all comes back in an infinite circle, back to the original ideas the story has always tried to keep within itself. Just like I have kept my ideas on the back burner until now, mha has kept its romantic ideas on the back burner too; this is the true cross roads, this is the final answer. All eyes are on you horikoshi, you have all the power right now to make or break everything.
Break the internet, Horikoshi.

In a lot of shows where romance is like, the furthest thing away from the priorities of the show like Avatar, Gundam, shonen series in general (Naruto, MHA, Bleach to name a few) and so on, canon couples tend to be incredibly half baked especially when the characters have far more and stronger interactions with like literally everyone else. Like even with Bleach where the one that makes the most sense for Ichigo was a het ship it still didn’t happen so it isn’t just in places where M/M F/F pairings wouldn’t happen or in GWitch where an F/F paiting was canon Suletta had far more chemistry with either Nika or Chuchu than Miorine.
While I don’t necessarily agree with some of this (I really liked Suletta and thought they had a lot of really cute moments, and Ruchigo was fun for the start of Bleach, but I understood Ichihime when it happened), you are absolutely right on romance not being AtLA’s strong suits.
This isn’t necessarily a problem, mind you, (there are way more interesting things to talk about in Avatar than ships). You can really tell Bryke was trying to make it clear who were and were not going to end up together by the end because they didn’t want to focus on it a lot, and having that sort of end goal is important to have (see: LoK’s romance that dragged on and on because they kept changing their minds on what the endgame couples were going to be).
The problem is most of the romance for the actually canon pairings just doesn’t feel very fun or good. Kataang is a perfect example of this. Zutarans are wrong to say that Kataang makes no sense. Of course it does; it's literally built up from the very first episode of the show, but it doesn't feel… romantic. Not to say they didn’t try (and try and try) but I never feel particularly moved by, or invested in, Aang and Katara's romance. I cared about their relationship, but their romantic relationship didn’t have… spice(?) if that sounds right. There's nothing engaging or moving about the numerous things the show does to bring them together. I didn't feel any great sense of triumph when they kiss at the end of Sozin's Comet. There was no point in their romance that I ever felt anything.
And considering how, despite being the canon pairing, Kataang only accounts for maybe 10% of the AtLA fics on AO3, a lot of people agree with the sentiment.
#ask#anonymous#shipping#ships#i’m gonna regret that atla post when i wake up tomorrow morning aren’t i?

Theory: Fuyumi was Enji’s first hope for surpassing All Might, not Touya
I’ve got my conspiracy cap on, and I’ve been thinking about this for a few days. Feel free to disagree, this is just a theory, and hopefully I’m clear enough and make sense haha.
In S6, Enji said that Fuyumi was born because Rei thought ‘siblings could support each other’. Enji says that he was willing to train Touya, whilst hoping for a child with a more suitable quirk. And I think that was true, but only after Touya’s quirk manifested. According to the wiki, the age at which quirks manifest varies, but it usually happens before the age of four. It’s never stated what Touya’s quirk manifested, but I think it’s logical to assume that he was at least around three or four. Mostly because I can’t imagine a baby would’ve been particularly good at controlling his quirk, and Rei and Enji would have noticed Touya burning himself a lot sooner.
So taking that into account, it doesn’t make much sense to me that pre-manifestation Touya was Enji’s first hope to surpass All Might. Touya was born prematurely, and although we don’t know how premature, it was enough to leave him markedly smaller than his younger siblings for the majority of his childhood. I also think it’s also possible that being born premature had an effect on his quirk, but that’s just my opinion.
Here's the thing: Enji had gone through a lot of trouble to have a child strong enough to surpass All Might. Despite being a hero, he sought out a wife who not only had the ideal quirk to balance his, but was available for a quirk marriage. Something that is illegal, expensive, and must have held significant risks given that Enji was already the second ranked hero in all of Japan. We know now that in the MHA universe Enji’s position as number two protects him, but it’s still against the law and could have been very damaging to such a new hero, especially one whose personality most people didn’t especially like.
With all that taken into consideration, I find it difficult to believe that Enji looked at his first child – who was born small and weak and premature – and was satisfied that he would surpass All Might. Especially since Touya shared none of Rei’s more obvious features. Like looking at the picture below, without knowing their quirks, I don’t think Touya would be the one Enji would put his dreams of beating All Might onto.
So we come to Fuyumi, who was born the same year as Touya was, with Touya being born January 18th and Fuyumi being born December 6th. Meaning that Fuyumi would have been conceived some time in March, less than two months after Touya was born. There are increased risks associated with getting pregnant so soon after birth, but more than that Rei’s living situation was far from ideal. She’d been literally bought to have a child, and then gone through a premature labour which must have been difficult and stressful. Then she has to contend with caring for a newborn and being pregnant again with a man she didn’t want to marry, all at the age of 22/23 (if we assume she’s the same age as Enji, since the wiki doesn’t give her an age). Personally, I don’t think Rei wanted more children. Honestly I don’t really think she wanted any children, at least with Enji, but was forced to under the terms of her marriage. I definitely don’t think she was the driving force behind having a second child.
But either way Fuyumi is born. She’s born after nine months, and unlike Touya she’s reasonably strong and healthy. Most importantly, she also has a mix of Enji and Rei’s features, in that her white hair is streaked with red. Granted, it’s an uneven mix, but it’s still a mix. After Fuyumi, it’s three more years before Natsuo is born.
(Also, I’ve just noticed this but we don’t have any pictures of baby Touya. The closest we get is the one where ~1 year old Touya crawls over to Enji whilst he’s sitting with Fuyumi. Aside from that, all images of Touya in Enji’s memories are of after he manifests his quirk. Like we don’t see any evidence of Enji sitting with baby Touya, even though he was quite a frail, sickly child. We see baby Natsuo in Rei’s arms, but the only other time we see Enji with one of his kids as babies it’s Shouto. I don’t know, maybe it happened off screen and this is a reach but I just find it interesting to note.)
So here’s my thinking: Enji believed that Fuyumi could be trained to surpass All Might. She was bigger, healthier, and more obviously a mix between him and Rei, whereas Touya was small, frail and looked like Enji. I don’t think Enji was ever a good or involved father to any of his kids, but perhaps he paid a little extra attention to Fuyumi when they were younger. Like, he would pat her on the head or ask how she was doing, whereas Touya – like Natsuo – was more or less ignored.
When Touya’s quirk manifested, this all switched and suddenly it was Fuyumi who Enji ignored, and Touya was the favourite. So Fuyumi was only Enji’s heir for a short while, but I think it explains why she was born so soon after Touya, but there’s a bigger gap between her and Natsuo.
I don’t know, this doesn’t really have any real effect on the story as a whole and I guess it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme. It just makes more sense to me than Rei wanting to get pregnant with a man who literally bought her less than two months after her first child was born prematurely just because she liked the idea of Touya having siblings. Anyway yeah, I hope my ramblings made sense, it kind of got away from me halfway through lol
#this is absolutely nothing against fuyumi btw#just in case that's not clear#she is innocent in all of this#rei is also innocent in this#it's just that enji is a scumbag piece of shit#todoroki family#my headcanons#i guess?#more of a theory than a headcanon#todoroki touya#todoroki fuyumi#todoroki enji#endeavour#himura rei#todoroki rei#fuck endeavour#what an asshole#hate him#anti endeavor#mha#bnha#my hero academia

Some thoughts about Dabihawks and the “Enemies to Lovers” trope (someway through this turned into a character study).
OK, so this is a very weird thing for me to post, especially since I normally don’t post at all (and for the few people that actually follow me and may see this, I just reblog art and photographs for the most part so this may be even weirder). But anyway, I want to dump this here. I don’t know if this makes much sense or has much of a basis. And I’m far from a shipping expert. Warning in advance.
Normally, I do not ship. At all. I support canon pairings if there and I can tolerate ships for the most part. I am one of those people who get annoyed if everyone is gay in a work because my mind goes to “what would be the odds in real life” - I don’t mean many offense, but my environment made me only encounter homosexuality in fiction so I doubt my experience with LGBTQA people is universal, but to me it’s a rarity.
And a type of ship that particularly annoys me is “enemies to lovers”. I just couldn’t see it. At all. I hated the very concept of those ships and they were among the first things I would filter out when searching through the Archive. “Don’t like, don’t read” as they say and I sure as hell didn’t read.
This probably has a lot to do with me being a bit of a stickler for canon or canon details in many case, but to each their own.
Enter Dabihawks.
Funny thing, I don’t have a 100% clear memory of how I ran into this pairing because make no mistake, I’m VERY new in My Hero Academia. As in, barely a few months new. So I’m pretty sure I ran into Dabihawks when I was looking for porn and was mostly unfamiliar with the characters.
Yeah, that’s another thing I should mention. I don’t normally read porn fics featuring characters I’m familiar with. Mostly for the stated above reasons.
But Dabihawks? That’s different.
MHA is the first fandom in which I can actually say that I ship non-canon pairings. That “yeah I can absolutely see that”. And Dabihawks is the chief of them for reasons I don’t really get.
It should be everything I hate in a ship. My issue with the enemies to lovers thing is that very often those people don’t have a reason to become lovers, at least not the way I see it. I’m excluding AUs and stuff like that because your story, your playground, but Dabi and Hawks do not have an actual reason to get emotionally close to each other. It’s lies and zero trust and openly murderous intentions from both sides, and Dabi is a goddamn maniac (no I’m not using the medical definition of the term).
But this at the same time is what this makes this pairing work.
Dabi and Hawks feel fundamentally like very similar - or rather, parallel - people.
Normally, when taking an enemies to lovers dynamic, there are two main approaches that I see.
1) one of them is the victim of circumstance and the other person comes as some sort of saviour
This is a ship dynamic that I can see working, it has some tragic elements that work well for drama, puts both characters on a good and decent moral ground, and if written correctly can promote growth for them. When this becomes problematic is when this dynamic is shifted to “I can fix them”. When I’m not given sufficient reason to believe that “villain” person can become better.
Enter the second approach
2) Stockholm Syndrome - EDIT: I was told I was using the term wrong. They were right so I'm rephrasing it to "unhealthy attachment"
Excuse me if I wrote “Stockholm” wrong. Regarding the subject of “I can fix them”, I know just enough about relationships to know that this is a toxic mindset in real life. Many times the characters in these series get obsessed with the “villain” of the pairing, and likewise the villain becomes obsessed with the hero. However, in this case, instead of having a dynamic of “I want to offer a chance to help because I care about this person” and “I want to become better and I’m grateful to this person for giving me the chance to do so”, we instead have both characters adopting a far more toxic mindset. The hero feels less like “someone in love” and more like “someone with a guilt and/or superiority complex”. Likewise, the villain still acts with villainous intent. They want to lure the hero in. So in these pairings, the hero and the villain - the two sides of the enemies - do not share a common ground other than the battlefield.
And then there is OOC.
The thing about enemies to lovers pairings, particularly the seond type, is that one character needs to be the victim of the other character, or act wildly out-of-character for this to even happen. That’s why I oftenly associate enemies to lovers with manipulation to a certain degree.
Now, I admit my pool is... limited. My main encounters with such ships are all those “Harry Potter x Voldy/Draco/death eater here”, as well as some miscellaneous stuff like “Hibari Kyoya x Mukuro” or “Dark Marik x literally anyone” or “Aizen x Ichigo (wtf)”. Either the Draco in Leather Pants syndrom is in full strength, or this is going on.
So why do I find Dabihawks different?
Well, they’re both in the same shoes, and they’re both the victim, and they’re both the manipulator.
Dabi and Hawks have an extremely personal, pre-established connection long before they even meet, said connection being Endeavor. And it’s not really in terms “I want to overcome this guy” but rather “this guy irrevocably changed my life and is connected to my family”.
There are far better analysis essays here on this, but Dabi and Hawks are defined by two very different versions of the same person. Dabi knows Endeavor as the monster who pretends to be a hero and never loved him as a parent, while to Hawks Endeavor is the proof that there is good in this world and saved him from his parent. Endeavor is the physical manifestation of how they perceive the world they live in. Dabi sees the worst of the hero society because he grew up in it, while Hawks has completely fallen for the glamorous image. For Dabi, the existence of pro-heroes among people is not a spectacle but an inescapable part of life; literally, he lived in the same house as one. Meanwhile, for Hawks it was such a spectacle that he did not believe it to be real. So they both start from the same point - Endeavor - and reach completely different conclusions. One of them thinks the world is fake, while the other thinks that miracles happen.
Another thing they both are parallels/mirrors/foils to each other is how exactly the abuse was for each of them. I’m trying to put this in terms of invisibility and expectation.
A core question in both their childhoods is “why was I born”. We see both of them being faced with this question as early as their toddler years. Both of them are undeniably too young to get existential like that. Here is the difference though; Dabi was clearly told exactly why he was born by his father, while Hawks’ own mother posed this question to him. So here again we have two different paths from the same starting point. Dabi already knew the answer but it was ripped away from him, while Hawks was asked to find the answer until it was shoved into his hands.
I’ll talk more about that later.
So, invisiblitity? Dabi and Hawks were invisible in their own house in different ways. At first, Dabi had ALL the attention on him but then it was ripped away along with the answer to the question “why I was born”. This caused instability in his life, like somone tore off his foundations. Dabi desires this stability back; he technically already knows the answer to the “why I was born” thing, so he believes that with thee attention he will get it back. He always, ALWAYS screams at people to look at him.
Hawks on the other hand thinks that being invisible is a good thing. Hawks knew he was unwanted from the very beginning, and since he could not leave, the best thing he could do was pretend he’s not there. Hawks doesn’t want to be seen. So he’s quite, inexpressive, and diverts attention away from him. Hawks wants the answer to the question “why I was born”, but he knows all too well that his parents won’t provide it, so he doesn’t seek them out.
And that is when they both are thrown into the exact opposite situation of their comfort zone.
Dabi is shoved - metaphorically - intoa world where everything is defined by secrecy. Limelight villainy - aka the villains who attack people in broad daylight - are in danger because they attract attention, and now Dabi is a villain who works in secret, even though his nature is to want ALL the spotlights on him.
Meanwhile, Hawks is thrown in the world where all the limelight will be on him, while he’s most confortable just disappearing.
Here we come back to Endeavor. With the Hero Comision, Hawks is shoven the answer of “why were you born” into his hands. Now, I’m not saying Endeavor has ties with the Hero Commision. Unlike what fanfiction claims, I really don’t think Endeavor wants much to do with them. But the important bit here is how Hawks preceives it. Hawks already thinks that heroes are fantastical guardian angels, and tols that he WILL be a hero.
So Dabi starts out with all the expectations and attention piled on him, only for them to be taken away and for him to be thrown in the shadows. While Hawks starts with nobody having any expectations or paying attention to him, and then he gets shoved to the spotlight.
And how do they react to the situation? Well, with the exact same way; putting on completely opposite but based on the truth masks. Dabi pretends not to be the massive attention seeker that he is and instead feigns apathy; except this apathy is only partially feigned because he only cares about one thing - it’s just not villainy itself, it’s a person. Hawks on the other hand pretends to be far more happy-go-lucky and friendly than he actually is, but that’s also partially based on a truth; he is optimistic to a fault (his words).
And this is a very simplified version of what makes this pairing work. When they collide, they collide HARD in every single area. Because every single area is a common area. Their lives match each other’s step for step long before they actually meet, so they have a lot of common ground, and the line in the sand between heroes and villains is not straight. It’s jagged as hell because they both got dragged through it.
So when they do finally meet, their oposite beats more or less forces the other to remove the mask. We see Hawks getting angry and laser focused and emotionless, killing someone in a location where no one could see. We see Dabi danceing around like a drama queen and laughing at the camera in front of the whole world. In a sense, tey are finally back in their comfort zones. And they had to collide to do it.
Dabi doesn’t want to be saved by the hero, and Hawks doesn’t want to save the villain. They do NOT trust each other, but know each other better than anyone else, because their lives are so close.
And I think their fight in canon perfectly reflects that. In a darkned, enclosed location like the ones they grew up in, with Hawks trying to keep something a secret while Dabi demanding that all eyes are on him.
And this is why I believe it works as a pairing. Yeah, there is a lot of symbolism and popular ship dynamics you could throw here (icarus and the sun, blonde and brunette except that’s a lie, sunny boy vs emo dude) but no. It’s how they force each other to be REAL and to look at the other side of their path that makes this ship work.
I read a fair bit of Dabihawks fanfiction, and it rarely starts with love at first sight or “I love this person”. Of course it fucking doesn’t. It starts with them actually considering murder, and then getting uncomfortable because the other person is getting under their skin. By taking a look at each other, they are forced to take a look at themselves. Because they have the exact same kind of baggage.
It’s also one of the reasons I think that this ship has so much variety in it. I read plenty of Dabihawks porn. A thing I find in slash fiction is that in a popular pairing, there is almost always a designated top and a designated bottom with designated preferences. Who will be the Uke and who will be the Seme of the relationship. I can’t believe I just wrote that. There is this general concept of what they’re into. But with Dabihawks, there isn’t such a pre-established concept because both sides of the pairing can fit any role. You can have anything from service dom Dabi to pillow princess Hawks to both of them being soft, or both being sadomaschohists, to switches, and who tops or bottoms in fiction is up to a coin toss. And it always feels in character because they both have this...zigzagging yet parallel dynamic, of having same yet different starting points, and moving at the same axis, taking turns at the same points.
So yeah. Not sure how to finish this but... yeah. Here is why I think this pairing works. Thanks for reading, if you did.

Not sure when you will see this ask (if is an ask at all) but one person said how the villains are humanized- in the context of how UA is too realistic and thus wouldn't expell Mineta or BK which I agree sort of I will go in details on that- I disagree on thr hunanized villains.
My opinion here. Keep in mind.
The villains in MHA dont have redeeming or positive qualities. I go as far as to say "LoV is found family" is bull. The villains have sad backstories but that's it.
"Poor shig....his backstory is awful" it is. But that's it. He never tried to conect or reach anyone else, not even villains (he sort gain LoV and later the meta army bc hori says so) we never saw him."off" the villain hours if I'm making sense.
The whole "Izu will save shig" is a responsability that falls only on Izu. Same wih Ochako.
They never show any positive quality. Hell, Toga is taking a drug AFO gave her knowing Shig is a meat puppet literally.
Dabi is so beyond saving that...I doubt even death can redeem him. Hell, he doesn't want to be saved or redeem. Hell, does Toga want that too?
As for UA...ok let me talk about Xmen for a hot moment. One thing I hate about Xmen is when they try to make some powers work in a realistic way. "Dude who can control fire would have health problems bc of that" I think the whole point of heroes is seeing them having cool powers and have an escapism...I don't want to read "Jean Grey has brain cancer bc of her power"
Now back to UA...I think UA (aside being a terrible written school) wants to he fantasy and realistic at the same time. Teachers have cool powers...but the students still do exams. It could work...if the intention of the school was clear.
Answer me this: Is Izu learning anything in UA?
I don't think so.
So UA letting BK run free and same to Mineta, while can be realistic (especially as BK is from a rich family) also harm the story. And if UA is to be "realistic" they would have addresed Mineta or BK.
Again my opinion.
I definitely agree that most of the villains aren’t as deep as people make them out to be. They’re kinda just destructive forces. Sure they got their backstories, but they’re pretty standard ones in the grand scheme of things. Now I don’t blame them for not wanting to reach out for help as it is society as a whole who failed them.
Twice and Himiko are the only ones I consider deep. Himiko’s a story about how mental illness (her quirk being the metaphor for it) can twist a person and if shunned rather than helped, they can lose themselves in their impulsive thoughts. Twice, as said by Hawks, is a good person. Out of everyone in the League, he cared the most about them. And that’s why he was willing to die for them. The world never gave him a home, in fact the world was responsible for shattering him even further than his own quirk did. The LoV did, and as such, he was willing to give his life for them because he genuinely cared about them. I will stand by the claim that Twice is MHA’s best written character. How the same author is able to write someone complex like Twice and someone so one dimensional like Katsuki is something that I’ll never understand.
Sorta related, but thing I will ask is does anyone really remember when Tomura and Spinner got close to each other? Cause to me it’s something that kinda came out of nowhere.

MAN this was HARD!
Let me know in the comments if you agree…or disagree!
(Midoriya, Bakugo, Aoyama, Sato, and Koda were hard to find a CLEAR NXM equivalent!…Also Hellion doesn’t really have a clear 1A equivalent but I think Shindo suits him better than Bakugo…I wasn’t really sure any of them fit Loa’s powers OR personality well either…)
Hellion- Momo because they look alike, both grew up wealthy, and are pretty strategic people…Yo Shindo for pretty OBVIOUS reasons…and Monoma because he’s a pain in the ASS 😂
Rockslide- Kirishima because of powers and obsession about being “tough” (remember Santo WANTED to be a pro wrestler!) and Mineta because Rockslide was sometimes just the WORST 😂
X-23- Both were more or less “manufactured” in a way and have tragic backstories…Laura IS both cold AND pretty LOYAL. Both are tacticians and I would say Todoroki’s flaw of not always communicating with others is Laura’s to a tee…
Mercury- Personality wise and looks, she’s definitely Itsuka (both tend to take care of everyone else/have an “older sister” mentality); power wise she’s probably closer to Tetstutetsu and a bit of Seto when she essentially liquid metal…
Loa- I don’t really feel like there’s a CLEAR character similar enough to Loa…Mirio has similar powers (more close to Kitty than Loa…) and I said Momo again, since both rely heavily on the body to use their powers…
The Cuckoos or Kid Omega- the closest to Telepathy is Hitoshi’s brainwashing power, and in MHA Hitoshi is often mistrusted because of his powers creepiness factor…although I like Hitoshi WAY more than QQ…
Quill and Wolf Cub- I said Sato since Quill and Wolf Cub are pretty nice guys in academy…I definitely could see Quill being into baking too! Wolf Cub is a little more pessimistic…but I couldn’t think of a clear equivalent except for Aizawa or Tamaki…
Wither- While Kevin is probably closest to Hitoshi personality and look wise…obviously his clear doppelgänger is Tomura (especially after Wither went bad…)
Rubbermaid- Besides Danjuro, I said Seto since both work for long distances. Also Itsuka power wise.
Prodigy- Midoriya OBVIOUSLY in terms of intellect and being central characters, Iida because BOTH are major rule followers, and Ken for tactical skills.
Icarus- OBVIOUSLY Hawks!
Gentle- Midoriya in terms of lack of power control/his powers harming his body, rushing head first into danger, and being pretty heroic; I would also say Koda since both Nezhno and him are gentle giants!
DJ- Aoyama just because both are pretty flashy characters 😂🤣
Indra- I said Ojiro since both are pretty mellow characters…
Elixir- While the obvious equivalent power wise is “Recovery Girl”; I would say the closest to Josh’s personality is Bakugo…both are hot heads, intelligent, and prideful.
Match- Bakugo is probably the closest or Toya power wise; while Ben IS a hothead…he’s not really Bakugo levels and probably would be Aizawa personality wise AGAIN.
Wind Dancer- Uraraka or Inasa…both are SUPER peppy people…so it fits (and Inasa is SUPER stubborn…and Sofia depended on David much like Uraraka does on Midoriya) 😂🤣
Dust- the closest in terms of power and personality would be Tokoyami, both are pretty stoic and calm under pressure (there’s also a character called “Dust” in MHA that’s similar power wise but not really in personality)
Pixie- OBVIOUSLY Ashido in looks and personality…although Ashido spits acid instead of Pixie Dust 😬🤣
Anole- OBVIOUSLY Asui!
Wallflower- while Midnight seems closer power wise…Toru is definitely Laurie in terms of personality and adorableness!
Trance- similar to Tokoyami power wise and Toru personality wise.
Surge- Kaminari in powers and DEFINITELY Jiro in looks and personality 😂🤣
Armor- Iida, DEFINITELY Iida 😂… Hisako is a pretty “by the book” person! (She and David TOTALLY would have been class Presidents if that was a thing in X-Men🤣😂) I also said Itsuka because she’s a bruiser as well.
Tag- again a softy like Koda. Since it was never clear whether tag was low level telepathy, maybe Hitoshi as well a bit…
