Bewitched by you? (Pt 3)
Finally made a third part.. sorry it’s been a while I had so much stuff to do with my essays and projects. Have mercy🥺🙏
Anyway…. Heh, I have used the one bed trope now..
(Warnings- MOMMY KINK, I forgot the rest ngl.)
——————————————-
“You’re coming with me.”
Lilia’s voice was smooth, matter-of-fact, like she’d already decided for me. I had barely set my bag down when she said it, leaving me standing in the middle of the shop, caught off guard.
I blinked. “Going where?”
She shuffled a deck of cards between her fingers, her rings catching the candlelight. “A client has requested a private session.”
I frowned. “A house call?”
Lilia nodded. “She can’t come to me, so I’m going to her.”
I leaned against the counter, crossing my arms. “And you need me because…?”
She gave me a knowing look. “Because it’s a few hours away, and I don’t feel like driving alone. And because I think you’ll enjoy seeing what I do up close.”
I hesitated. I hadn’t expected to be invited into this part of her life—the side that existed outside of the shop, away from the customers I interacted with on a daily basis.
Lilia must have noticed my pause because she smirked, tilting her head. “Unless you’re scared.”
That did it. I grabbed my bag. “I’m coming.”
The drive stretched long and quiet, the night swallowing the road ahead of us. Trees blurred past in the darkness, the headlights carving a path through the quiet countryside.
Lilia drove like she did everything else—with ease, one hand resting on the wheel, the other occasionally adjusting the radio dial. The soft hum of jazz filled the car, and for a while, neither of us spoke.
Then, after a moment, she glanced at me. “You’re tense.”
I sighed. “I just didn’t expect to be on a road trip with my boss today.”
Her lips twitched. “Is that all I am to you?”
I turned to look at her, but she kept her eyes on the road, her expression unreadable. My stomach twisted unexpectedly, and I decided not to answer.
By midnight we had made it to the hotel.
The small, roadside inn wasn’t much—just a row of rooms with flickering neon signage and a parking lot half-filled with cars. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of pine and rain-soaked pavement.
I adjusted my bag over my shoulder as we stepped inside the lobby, exhaustion settling in. “So, how many rooms did you book?”
Lilia hummed. “One.”
I stopped in my tracks. “One?”
She didn’t slow down. “They were nearly full. We’re lucky we got anything at all.”
I stared at her back as she approached the counter, my brain catching up. “And there was only a single bed?”
She turned slightly, dark eyes glinting with something unreadable. “Would you prefer the floor?”
I sputtered. “No, I just—”
She smirked, pulling the room key off the counter after checking in. “Relax, baby. It’s just a bed.”
Just a bed. Right.
Then why did it suddenly feel like the longest night of my life was about to begin?
The room was small, cozy in the way most hotels were—dimly lit, with beige wallpaper and a window that looked out onto the empty parking lot. And, of course, one bed sitting neatly in the center.
Lilia tossed her bag onto the chair in the corner before toeing off her boots. She didn’t seem bothered at all. Meanwhile, I was standing stiffly by the door, trying to figure out the least awkward way to handle this.
“You can shower first,” Lilia offered as she unbuttoned her blouse’s cuffs, rolling them up to her elbows. “If that helps ease whatever crisis you’re currently having.”
I scowled. “I’m not having a crisis.”
Her lips twitched like she didn’t believe me, but she didn’t push. Instead, she moved to the window, drawing the curtain closed.
I exhaled slowly. I was being ridiculous. It was just one night, one bed. No big deal.
Right?
By the time I came out of the bathroom, steam curling in the air behind me, Lilia had changed into a black satin camisole and loose sleep pants, her dark hair spilling over her shoulders.
I tried not to look. I really tried.
She was sitting up in bed, reading something in the dim lamplight, but as I stepped further into the room, she glanced up. Her gaze flicked over me—barefoot, damp hair, wearing an old T-shirt and shorts that suddenly felt way too casual.
Something unreadable passed through her eyes before she smirked. “See? Not so bad.”
I rolled my eyes and climbed into bed beside her, keeping a very safe distance between us. The mattress dipped slightly, and I felt the warmth of her body, closer than I expected.
She turned off the lamp, plunging us into darkness.
For a while, the only sound was the quiet hum of the heater and the occasional shift of fabric. I lay there, staring at the ceiling, willing myself to relax.
Then—Lilia’s voice, soft in the dark.
“You don’t have to lie so stiffly. I’m not going to bite.”
I swallowed. “I didn’t think you would.”
A pause. Then—playful, teasing: “Unless you want me to.”
My breath caught in my throat.
Silence stretched between us, thick and charged, before she let out a soft chuckle and turned over, facing away from me.
“Goodnight, baby.”
I exhaled slowly, trying to steady my heartbeat.
“Goodnight, Lilia.” I closed my eyes.
And tried very hard to sleep.
——————————
So… Patti nation, how we feeling…
Anyway… hope it was to your guys approval! I tried. But now I’m tired and the bed is callin my name like food does! I bid you good day!

HIMEKAJI OUTFITS, INSPIRATION, AND STYLING TIPS ♡
"Himekaji” translates to princess (姫) casual (カジュアル).
Il's a cute, girly style that's perfect for a more casual date or day at school. I like to think of himekaji as what a princess would wear when she's hanging out at home.
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:
• Start with your outfit color palette: Neutral colors and pastels like dusty and light pink, beige, brown, baby blue, white are all common choices. Floral patterns are also very popular.
Here are some colour palette ideas <3

• Select a skirt as your base piece: While this look can work with pants. skirts and dresses are much easier to style. Choose a midi length or add tights for a little more coverage.
• Look for an A-line design for easier styling. An A-line skirt is a type of skirt that is fitted at the waist and gradually widens towards the hem. creating a silhouette that resembles the letter 'A." This feminine shape is great for a himekaji outfit.
• Incorporate a feminine texture: Lace, faux fur, mini pom poms, satin, frills and ruffle details all add a new dimension to your outfit and make it look more interesting than your normal casual look. Try to incorporate a cute texture into your outfit with a blouse, crop top or cardigan.

• Or use your accessories: You can also introduce depth and texture to your look using accessories. Lace gloves, tights, bags, etc.
• Make your makeup match your vibe: Go and hair accessories can all be cute choices for a soft, pink version of the model-off-duty look to add more feminine sparkle to your look. Pale pink and lavender blush and the Douyin makeup style works particularly well.
• Use a casual hairstyle: Most looks I've seen incorporate long. loose curls or straight hair. However. no, matter what your hair texture, natural hair would also look very cute and casual.
• Add finishing touches with soft. girly accessories: While the himekaji style uses fewer accessories than most gyaru styles. simple girly accessories like pearl necklaces, hair bows. knee socks, mary-jane shoes and open-toed sandals all help complete your look. Add a white, pink or frilly bag for extra credit. (examples of accessories below <3)

Excavate - One
Word Count: 3.2k
Chapter Tag(s): grave robbing, illegal handling of a dead body, mentions of witchcraft, mentions of sexual inexperience, mentions of resurrecting the dead.
MDNI +18
Normally, an average Wednesday night for a college student is spent bent over books and cramming as much knowledge as humanly possible in one sitting and then dealing with the sudden onslaught of a nosebleed or a banging headache jabbing at the nerves located behind the eyes. That’s exactly what they should be doing. Following the norm of campus life. But instead of soaking textbook pages in tears and developing premature carpal tunnel syndrome from typing away rapidly for hours straight on a loaned-out laptop, the campus ‘odd-squad’ have found a better means for their time.
Grave robbing.
Jongho swipes a hand across his forehead, jumpsuit soaked by sweat and layers of dirt from digging. He pauses to adjust his grip on the handle of the shovel, the well-worn gardening gloves he wore coming loose at the wrist strap. It was about time for him to get a new pair, the Velcro hardly holding together anymore.
Yeosang is back-to-back with him, his own issued jumpsuit stripped from his upper body and tied at his waist. The black tank top he wears underneath it clings tightly to his torso.
“I’m beginning to think this isn’t worth it anymore.”
Seonghwa stands a couple feet above the two, arms crossed primly over his chest. Beside him on his left is Hongjoong with a hip jutted out and an impatient frown on his face.
“It is. Keep digging.”
Yunho takes the eldest’ right, watching eagerly as if something wildly grotesque is about to pop out of the dirt at any moment. Mingi is at his side with a flashlight in hand. Wooyoung also has a flashlight but rather than being useful with it, he finds pointing it right into Yeosang’s eyes far more entertaining. San every so often swats at his shoulder or nudges him in the ribs until the other begrudgingly shifts the flashlight to illuminate the hole.
“Isn’t there, I don’t know, a better option? I mean, this can’t be the only bobble-headed bimbo buried in this cemetery.” Mingi shifts from foot to foot, casting his eyes around as if expecting one of the other graves to begin shimmering like a loot box.
“If we were to change our progress than all that research was for absolutely nothing. We chose her, end of discussion.” Seonghwa drums his manicured nails against the satin of his blouse on his opposing bicep, eyes focused on every dirt pile shoveled up and over the grave.
“Would have been easier if it was fresh.” Jongho utters, grunting a bit when a fist sized rock joins the dirt on the tip of his shovel.
“A fresh grave lacks the appeal of history unless the deceased is nearly a hundred years old. And unless you want to stick your dick into someone’s grandmother then I suggest you complain less and dig more.”
The eldest was not to be trifled with especially on this certain little matter. This entire ordeal has been meticulously planned down to the very shovels being used, a five-star item raved about by suburban fathers on landscaping forums that Yunho was tasked to gather research on. What was once a thriving sorority twenty years prior has now become a fraternity with a cap-off at eight members— no new recruits allowed. Hongjoong had the money for it (actually his parents did— anything to keep him in college and away from them), buying the abandoned building from the college administration after it fell to ruin when tragedy befell the former chapter manager. It now has been renovated, refurbished and ultimately resurrected from its former state into a macabre dwelling fit for the campus’ ‘eight morbid freaks’ as the rest of the student body not-so lovingly calls them. Alpha-Tau-Zeta sits right at the forefront of the campus housing district, a lovely splotch of black and depressing blue amongst creamy whites and fresh beiges.
It humors Wooyoung the most, a cocky little grin smearing across his face when he hears the idle chatter of freshmen on tours from the front porch. He’ll even wait till the guides finish their little jabs at the exterior paint job and peculiar garden off in the corner to give a cheeky wave, a loud cackle following their steadfast retreat. Sometimes he will even meet them at the wrought iron fence, interrupting the chipper offering of information about every fraternity and sorority house except for there's with the tragic history behind their own. The sudden and daresay untimely death of the young, beautiful and beloved president— Y/N L/N, dated back a century ago. As written on the honorary grave sign fitted with an extended rod for better viewing from Seonghwa’s favored garden.
Jongho grimaces as does Yeosang and Wooyoung and every single one of them. The thought of lying with anything geriatric was a mood killer in every aspect.
There’s a dull thump and suddenly everyone freezes. Yunho smiles, bending over the side of the hole with his hands on his knees. “Bingo.”
Jongho and Yeosang are quick to toss the shovels away onto the grass above, narrowly missing Mingi and Wooyoung’s feet. Both make sure to voice their disgruntlement but the edge in their words die off when the rest of the loose sediment is swiped and brushed away until the sight of mahogany dressed in gold detailing comes into view.
“Holy shit—“
Hongjoong can’t help the breathy laugh, peering down at the casket in all its fortune-spent glory. “Expect nothing less for the campus’ beloved bimbo.”
“Drop the ropes down and we’ll wind them underneath the casket. Separate into two groups of three with each person grabbing the opposite ends of the ropes. When I give the signal, you’ll pull outward while we push upward. Sounds good?” Jongho gestures to the duffle bag he usually uses for work sitting beside San’s feet. No one opposes to the plan.
The ropes are retrieved with a swift unzipping and unraveled into the grave. San, Wooyoung and Mingi have ahold of the starting ends, keeping a firm grip on them as Jongho and Yeosang maneuvers each rope under the casket. That goes to say that isn’t without rocking the large chunk of crafted wood. Yeosang accidentally tilts it too far while trying to assist Jongho in getting the third rope under the corners, knocking it hard into the grave walls and inadvertently scuffing the wood. That causes Seonghwa to hiss, growing slightly antsy at the less than gentle handling of their newest… project.
“Careful, be more careful.”
“Sorry…” Yeosang sheepishly utters.
Once the opposing ends are successfully fed out from under the other side of the casket, they are swiftly handed over to Seonghwa, Hongjoong and Yunho. Jongho moves to stand at the head while Yeosang positions himself at the feet— both crouching down to wedge their hands under the wood.
“On the count of three— one, two, three!”
The six with the rope-ends move away from the hole, yanking on the ropes with gritted teeth and straining muscles. Jongho and Yeosang aid in the lifting with their hands until they can get at least one of their shoulders each under the wood.
The casket raises up, slowly and daresay unsteadily but it ascends, nonetheless. Once it clears the edges of the grave, Jongho and Yeosang shift their hands to the side where the golden latch is located in order to open it and shove with enough force to move the wooden box over and onto the grass.
Simultaneously, the ropes are dropped and everyone’s crowding around the casket like its unearthed treasure from a long-dead era. Yeosang crawls out of the grave first with a huff, offering a helping hand to Jongho who takes it without hesitation. They were going to feel all of this in the morning.
“Let’s break the lock.” Wooyoung is anxious to see you, rotted and less like the pictures they’ve seen in the shrine the college has dolled up in your honor.
“No. We need to get back to the house before we are caught.” Hongjoong’s authoritative tone offers zero room for argument. Wooyoung can’t help but pout.
“Seriously? Just a peek won’t hurt! It’s not like she’ll suddenly turn into dust and blow away.”
“I said— no.”
“Jongho, go get the van. We need to be quick,” Seonghwa turns to Yeosang, “You said the duty of the night's watchmen was due for a changeover right before the digging. How much time do we have before the next one shows up?”
Yeosang wipes a rag he had stashed in his jumpsuits pocket across his forehead, “If we started at eight and it took us— what, an hour, maybe an hour and a half at tops? Then the next watchman should be here within the next ten-twenty minutes.”
“Fuck, that’s cutting it close. Far too close.”
Far too close indeed. Once Jongho had reversed close enough for the casket to be pushed up the small retractable ramp in the back, the overhead lights from the funeral home suddenly came on and placed all eight college students in a halo of white light. It was blinding and Wooyoung swore later on that it was making the surface of his skin sizzle.
“What is that? What does that light mean?” San had a hand over his eyes in an attempt to block out the brightness, mouth running a mile a minute under a pressing pressure of the unknown.
“Looks like the ten to twenty minutes was actually just a few seconds.” Yeosang shuffles quickly towards the front end of the casket, hoisting it onto the ramp with a frazzled grunt.
“Hells-bells Yeosang!” Seonghwa hisses, quickly moving to the other end of the casket with San and Wooyoung. The trio make quick work of shoving their weight into the deadweight until it ascends the ramp and tilts hazardously on the seam of the ramp and the back of the van.
“You know I’m not good with time estimations! Especially while under pressure.”
“Only good for digging graves and having a pretty face.” Yunho teased, jumping into the back of the van to help Yeosang yank the casket over that last little stretch.
There’s a blare of a shrill alarm, crackling through the old speakers atop of stray lampposts bordering the cemetery. It causes San to startle, and if he had more hair than the mop atop of his head it would be standing up just like a cat’s when threatened. Hongjoong rounds the van with a cackle, practically launching himself through the passenger side window and into the front seat next to Jongho. Mingi shadows Yunho, following in his steps without a second's hesitation. However, rather than riding the high of adrenaline, he’s nearly on the cusp of throwing up his dinner— or rather Wooyoung’s specialty of the evening.
“Hurry up, I hear someone coming.”
“Would be easier,” Wooyoung huffs, feet slipping along the grass, “if we had a bit more help here, princess.”
Mingi pouts, adjusts his glasses before grabbing the end of the casket with Yunho and Yeosang and tugging on it until it clears the lip of the van and nearly crushes the trio's feet under the slide of its weight. The other three are quick to scramble inside the van and yank the ramp up and into the back. San has the doors closed with a less than quiet slam. It causes the entire vehicle to shake.
Jongho’s foot presses down on the gas pedal and the van jerks unsteadily forward. In the wake of grass clumps and skid marks, there’s the faintest voice beyond the black boxy body of the van yelling indiscernibly as the eight zoom off into the dead of night.
*
No one wants to acknowledge how utterly taxing it was to get the heap of glorified wood into Seonghwa and Hongjoong’s workshop. Mingi had even suggested that they remove the body for easier handling but was quickly met with several slaps to the back of the head and a very unimpressed scowl from the eldest.
“What? It was just a suggestion!”
Now all of them would be sporting their very own badges in the varying colors of purple, red and blue for their dedication to the cause (no matter how illegal it may have been). But it was worth it, hopefully. Everything was truly riding on how efficient the spell would be. And while a majority of the group had no inkling on the details of black magic and conjuring's, they did unwittingly place their utmost trust into Seonghwa whom the responsible party for everything is— and Hongjoong, his trusted yes-man.
They gathered around the casket like buzzards to roadkill. Each pair of eyes sparkling downward at the mahogany wood, awaiting in anticipation. It wasn’t always that the possibility of raising the dead let alone the campus’s once favorite it-girl twenty years prior presented itself as a boldly dressed opportunity. Jongho, Mingi and San might be the most skeptical. Seeing is believing to them. If she doesn’t raise out of the casket like Dracula after his day-rest then clearly Seonghwa and Hongjoong are nothing more than two idiots driven on the whimsy of internet-based occultist malarkey.
Wooyoung is devoted to the cause. His excitement is almost nauseating. Yunho is a bit more subdued in his own bubbling interest. Yeosang isn’t really sure what he feels, a bit of cat-killing curiosity and apprehension for the unknown. Plus, a small portion of him hopes that something happens just so that he can justify the soreness already encapsulating his muscles and that the illegality of what they had done was worth it.
The makeshift freezer that they all stood in was actually a storage closet located down in the basement (now converted into a morgue that Seonghwa and Hongjoong conducted their side hustle in— adjoining it was a funeral parlor only accessible either through the morgue or by the side entrance on the exterior of the house). Of course, none of the renovations had been permitted by the college board but what they didn’t know wouldn’t hurt them. Surely if they knew the house previously hosting their beloved queen bee was being used to run several macabre businesses out of as well as housing her now unearthed corpse— the uproar would be cataclysmic.
…
Something about that thought was quite enticing.
Seonghwa pulls on a sterile pair of gloves, their purple color looking bluer under the fluorescent lighting. He hands a pair over to Hongjoong, the latter stretching the latex over each finger and finishing with a clinical snap at the wrist.
“Ungloved hands are to be kept to yourselves, understood?” Seonghwa had no room for nonsense in his tone.
“Understood.” Yunho mimicked a poorly executed salute that Mingi and Yeosang copied.
“Do we have to do this in the freezer? It’s fucking cold in here.” Wooyoung rubbed at his arms with a shudder.
“Yes, and if you plan on whining the entire time about the cold then I suggest you make like a bat and fly off.” Seonghwa fixes the younger with a stern look, which only has enough of an impact as a pebble against a windowpane. Wooyoung rolls his eyes and turns away with a grumble, stomping out of the freezer with San on his heels. Yeosang is captured by the wrist at the last second and dragged along despite his agreement to keep his limbs to himself.
“Anyone else?”
“Think you should go, Princess. Don’t want you to faint all of a sudden at the sight of a woman.” Yunho teased with an easygoing smile.
Mingi scoffed while adjusting his glasses, “She’s dead, I hardly doubt there’s going to be much of her left in that box.”
“Never know, maybe her tits are still intact. They won’t be able to decompose if they are fake.”
“You really think so?” Mingi’s eyes widened, flickering down at the top of the casket. Images of a skeleton with large double D’s projecting themselves like an outdoor movie screening across his mind.
Jongho’s nose scrunches, “You’re both disgusting.”
“Different strokes for different folks.” Yunho replies with an added shrug.
Hongjoong is also equally off-put by the two. Which is definitely kettle and pot at this point considering the sole reason for you being unburied and brought to their frat house (and if all hells below granted wishes— the success in your resurrection) was to be the key to their sexual dilemmas, to end their virginal curses once and for all.
That’s right— you were to be the dumping grounds for every bit of inexperience and frustration coursing through their bodies. What other women denied with sneers and cattish insults passed behind manicured hands would be offered willingly by you. Was it a bit demeaning? Perhaps. Would incel stamped across their foreheads match the drapes to the carpet? Possibly. But admitting that they were utterly desperate to feel loved even if fleeting between the sheets with a dead chick they resurrected made the feeling of pathetic anguish all the more visceral.
Seonghwa chose to ignore the mindless banter, hand moving to the golden latch closest to his person. Hongjoong follows suit, lips pulling at the corners. He was far from intrigued, rather he could probably stab his own eyes out in giddy anticipation. Sure, he’s seen plenty of bodies— young, old, fat, thin, healthy, ailing. But all of them had one thing in common that you didn’t. They were recently deceased, while you have been stuck under petrichor and years of passing time, rotting away to the sound of shifting sediment and roaming insects.
Both men fiddle with the latches until they are separated, proceeding with an agreement of a curt nod. The lid of the casket is eased open, the hinges groaning from years of staying sedimentary. Inside is exactly what is expected. In the center, swathed by padded silk in the faded color of hot pink, is your shriveled up corpse. Dressed in a flashy strapless body-con dress that’s now stained by the decomposition of your skin, strappy heels that have the silver faux-leather peeled away into curls from the heat. You have various pieces of jewelry on— big gold hoops lay wonky on the pillow your head is propped on; the ear lobes they are attached to are nothing more than pieces of jerky. A matching gold necklace lays in the crevice of your collar bones and dips into the hollow alcoves of your chest, your name is written in cursive at the center of the chain. You’ve got a couple bracelets on your wrists, a few rings that now lay loose on your spindly fingers.
The duck-shape nails you adorn are pink and black cheetah print, same as your toes.
Mingi swallows, wipes at the lens of his glasses with the end of his sleeve, a shuddered breath parting from between his lips. “That— yeah, that’s a— uh huh—“
Jongho shifts to the side just in time to avoid being crushed by Mingi’s suddenly collapsing body.
“Is it because she’s a woman or because she’s dead?” He nudges Mingi’s immobile body with the toe of his work boot, facing no reaction.
“Both, probably.”
Seonghwa sighs, “Yunho, please if you will, remove him so he’s not in the way.”
Yunho bends down and simply scoops up the unconscious man’s ankles into his hands before dragging his deadweight across the cold freezer floor and out of the small room— not without knocking him into the door frame.

Downton Abbey Fashion 83 - festive occasions in 1925
We have three celebratory occasions this season: Mrs Hughes’ and Carson’s wedding, of which only two outfits don’t get repeated in everyday situations. Mary’s wedding to Henry Talbot, which is a little on-a-moment’s-notice affair for which also only three people bothered to get new dresses. And Edith’s wedding to Bertie Pelham. Which is poorly-lit for the most part. *sigh*
I’m surprised Violet of all people would get a new dress for Mary’s blitz wedding. It’s a pretty typical Violet deal and also beige, but I’m slightly inclined to forgive that because the curlicue applications on her collar and lapels are gorgeous. And the little bits of darker piping set in to highlight the pattern; it looks really nice. I also get a look at the back construction and the piping that goes around there, and, while the second hat is a repeater, the one for the wedding is new, and it’s a pretty sweet deal with the black and white plumage.

Violet’s final outfit on the show is obviously dusty Crawley purple, but she once again has a nice embroidery around the trim; I think those are black lilies. How goth of you, Violet. Other than that, silk satin, white lace blouse with a scratchy-looking neckline, and – oh, she leaves the show with a darling hat on! A new hat, I think; she didn’t wear this before Edith’s wedding, and it’s got golden leaves applications on cream and more dusty purple, plus a cute buckle and dusty pink feathers. Slay, queen. And RIP, Maggie Smith.
--------------
Isobel’s church coats for the various weddings were repeaters, so I only have a gloomy, grainy shot of her at Edith’s reception. It’s dark grey and underwhelming, although the fabric has this look of, like, shimmering splinters? Could be voided velvet. The front has one of those deep Vs and the sleeve cuffs repeat the plain fabric, and Isobel didn’t even have the decency to wear a contrasting necklace or a showy hat. Whatevs.
--------------
Lady Shackleton is nowhere to be seen at Edith’s wedding, but since Henry is her nephew, she’s around for his and Mary’s shindig, and she wears a goddamn beige coat. The mottled weave of it is nice enough, the collar has a cute little flowery embroidery, the hat looks like a piece of postmodern pottery with a lace trim slapped on, and the blouse she’s wearing under that coat is honest-to-god Edwardian, complete with a puffy pigeon chest. Fascinating.
--------------
Cora has the only new outfit at Edith’s reception beside Violet. Swallowed by the beige curse, she presents this sandy dress with lace at the hem, sleeves, and making up the yoke. Nice lace; love the flower motif and the scallops. But was a color to contrast it really too much to ask? Even dusty Crawley purple would’ve done. The hat is nice enough with more lace applications and white feathers, and the collar is admittedly nifty, two ribbon ties crossing over the throat and then hanging over her shoulders down the back. Still would have preferred to talk about the lady in the background with the golden printed coat and the glorious plumage on her hat.
--------------
Mrs Pelham has apparently learned simpering from Cora. Her outfit is boring; it’s just plain brown silk satin mostly covering a slightly more interesting lining fabric with some golden beading. I like the ruffled shoulder seams and the flowers on her hat, but please, someone bring me something else than brown before a brown background with yet more brown on top of it!
--------------
…Huh. Well, Rosamund went all-in for Mary’s wedding. Everyone else is like, “less is more”; she is like “I will compensate for ALL of you!” I think with a subtler hat this outfit might work. The ensemble is very lively with black roses and greenly-outlined leaves on cream, but red is a good color to contrast this, and a tassel element would not be considered unusually busy for the time. I even like the rose. Just put it on a less busy hat, that doesn’t have a curved brim and translucence and a cream trim going on.
For Edith’s wedding, she decided to blend into the crowd after all. I only get this one halfway clear shot of her, and she wears a brown dress with some glittery beading in vertical lines that, under her chest, run into a more intricate pattern of zigzags and curlicues. Where are your red contrast points now, Rosamund? A hat with some feathers, a necklace that may as well be not there, and the lighting is not making this any better.
--------------
The beige curse also got to Laura. For the church, she was still wearing fur and a reddish rust shade; now, the best I can say about her dress is that its shimmering gives it a bit of a golden impression. At least it’s a nice material, set off against plain chiffon sleeves that coordinate with her hat. It just isn’t much else.
--------------
Mary’s first wedding guest outfit is the better of the two (bride fashions go into a separate post later), and I cannot fathom that this lovely deep red dress never shows up again after Mrs Hughes’ and Carson’s wedding. It’s Mary’s color! It’s got a stylish asymmetrical neckline! It’s nice material! And it has this cool gathered element on the front! All this makes up such a chic, classy look that I can’t believe she would never wear that again. Not even the hat, a pretty simple and adaptable style, makes a reappearance.
For Edith’s wedding reception, the theme is apparently “brown”, so Mary is already adventurous by adding in gold. And where Edith takes the wild prints and adventurous colors of art deco, Mary takes the sharp, geometrical motives and the metallic looks. Set together from various diamond shapes, this dress ends up looking, while as shapeless as the 1920s do, quite glamorous. I only wish the longer chiffon sleeves were either plain or not there at all.
--------------
Edith also has an outfit exclusively for Mrs Hughes’ and Carson’s wedding which we never see again, this silvery chiffon and satin ensemble with a boat neckline. I really like this look on her; it’s so simple yet so elegant, in particular that yoke panel and the turquoise jewelry she chose to pair with it. Also, cute hat with an even cuter twig-shaped pin.
Probably the most colorful guest at Mary’s wedding, Edith is the only one who soundly rejects the greys and beiges (well, the shot is from her little outing to the cemetery, but I think she wore this for the ceremony?). We’ve seen this reddish orange dress with little rectangular elements near the end of season 5 when she went out for lunch with Mary, Rose, and Tom, but this time, she pairs it with a glorious dark blue coat with a white and sandy print. Edith also gives a last nod to her Michael-Gregson orange-and-indigo color pairing while looking at her and Michael’s daughter. Thematic congruence!

I know you’ve answered this several times before but what’s everyone’s current style like (since its possible it’s changed)
This is actually in my character sheets so I’ll give their style with a few examples of colors and fave clothing and stuff like that.
This will get way too detailed but I don’t care, I’ve been waiting for this moment.
Bloom: I don’t know how to describe her style, maybe casual street style but a little cute?
Her main colors are blue, yellow, light orange and the tiniest dash of pink. Bell bottom jeans and high tops are her staple. Other favorites are: thrift shirts, graphic T’s, simple form fitting blouses. Messy ponytails.
Later on her style becomes just a bit more elaborate (in part thanks to the other girls influencing her style) and she incorporates cropped cardigans, pattern jeans and collard shirts. She loves using small flames but doesn’t wear a lot of red. Doesn’t like heels. Messy buns are her fave (she can often be seen with a pencil holding up her hair). ALSO, her staple is bell-bottom jeans and she uses a lot of sweetheart necklines as a way to honor Daphne since that was Daphne’s fave.
Stella: She’s just starcore and artsy fashion.
Her main colors are gold, orange, yellow and green. Later on starts using dark blues and silvers as she gets more in touch with her moon magic.
She wears chain belts, dozens of matching sets (crop shirt and skirt) bralette croptops, mini skirts, high waisted shorts, silk satin fabric (lots of satin fabric), sequins and glitter. Gold jewelry and *extra* shoes, wears heels almost all the time. And her hair is always straightened.
Her style doesn’t so much change as it does just… mature over time, she still wears her glitter and sequins just with more… I don’t want to say taste but more strategically if that makes sense. She experiments more with shapes and overall she does appear a little more mature. She also starts curling her hair a little more often.
Flora: A mix of bohemian and cottagecore aesthetic.
Her main colors are pink and green. Overtime she starts mixing in more neutral colors like beige, white and light greys and browns along with blues and lilac.
She wears puff sleeves, sheer blouses, ribbon corsets and long flowing skirts. She wears cute lace and lots of tull. Simple shoes. Platforms and comfortable heels and ankle boots. She always has braid crowns and accent braids.
Overtime she incorporates even more romantic silhouettes, wrap shirts, translucent shirts over tops, and more complicated shapes for her skirts. She loved showing off her shoulders and back but is at a stage in which she isn’t doing such and is wearing more long sleeved shirts. She also wears more big earings, not just hoops but also big stars and hears and moons and stuff like that. The braids remain but now her favorite kind are waterfall braids.
Musa: She starts off goth/emo but at season 3 I feel like she’s shifting becoming more goth/punk.
Her main colors are dark red and black. Overtime she incorporates dark blues and royal purples.
She wears lots of leather, strappy croptops, fishnets, plaid, checkered patterns, combat boots, chunky platforms, tight mesh tops and big jeans. Her staple is red eyeliner.
Overtime she starts wearing more chains, leg/armwarmers for the aesthetic, chokers, more leather skirts and fishnets with patterns. She loves space buns. And cropped sweaters. Big sweatshirts and lose jeans. Her staple is still red eyeliner but she starts wearing dark lipsticks, dark purple, black, etc.
Tecna: She’s kind of futuristic cyber-punk.
Her main colors are purple and green, later on incorporates silver, blues and whites.
She wears a lot of deconstructed tops and pants. Long boots, irridescent fabric. Cargo pants are her favorite, the more pockets the better. Neon colors and long sleeves.
She starts wearing a lot of bomber jackets (Stella makes her some with dozens of pockets). Visible hemlines, stamped designs (idk how to explain it) black tops and baggy pants.
Aisha: she starts off kind of not really having a style of her own and just wearing the same stuff she does to do sports and dance but over the course of season 2 and 3 she finds she really loves and embraces street style
Her main colors are tans and neutral tones at first, as she discovers herself she incorporates blues, aquas, greens, black but keeps her tans as well.
As her style develops she starts with more sporty streetwear but evolves to just streetwear, cool sweatpants, tracksuits, jerseys, leggings, knee high socks, jumpsuits and sneakers. Cargo shirts.
She incorporates cut-out tops, wide leg pants, platform boots, long necklaces and satin tops as well as interesting patterns for her tops.
Sky: Simple style, becomes a bit more fancy over time
His main colors are blues and yellows. Incorporates oranges and dark green overtime along with neutral tones.
During the swticharoo he mainly wears plain t’s, collared shirts, simple jackets, comfy sneakers and jeans.
After that he wears more ‘styllistic’ shirts and really cool shoes not sure how else to describe it and he honestly doesn’t care that much so that’s as much as he does when he’s not in prince mode. In prince mode he goes all out, long leather boots, capes and velvet.
Brandon: Sporty casual (is that a thing?) becomes more skater boy aesthetic by the day
His main colors are green and white, starts using more dark red and dark blue overtime
He wears tight shirts, vans and either simple or ripped jeans. Printed shirts and lots of weird, but cool, patterns for his shirts. Starts wearing more converses and jackets with patches.
Helia: my boy is very preppy but in a soft way if that makes sense
His main colors are beige and pale yellow and neutral colors, he incorporates pale greens and blues and reds.
He wears a lot of chinos, soft cardigans and collared shirts as well as knitted sweaters and vans that he paints on .
He incorporates overtime blazers, button ups, scarves, pullovers, soft vests and loose… what are they called? Those romeo-like shirts you know the ones. But he still wears exclusively long sleeves unless he’s in the dorm or with just the squad.
Riven: He starts off very street style but after he starts living with his grandparents his street style starts incorporating some punk elements (yes, he was influenced by Musa but he will never admit it)
His main colors are dark red, dark blue and grays. He incorporates more blacks, greens and different shades of red.
Bomber jackets are his staple in season 1. He also wears leather jackets, cropped t’s, graphic t’s, ripped jeans and simple shirts with stickers as well as sneakers.
Overtime he incorporates, hightops, plain sleeveless shirts, black cargo pants and darker bomber jackets with patches. He starts wearing a lot of rings and his sister always paints his nails black. He’ll occasionally ask Musa to do his eyeliner.
Timmy: I love Timmy but he is low-key hopeless. He’s just nerd
His main colors are yellows and oranges, he wears more greens and neutral tones overtime.
He wears simple t-shirts with colored sleeves, baggy jeans and cotton shirts, sneakers and layers. He has 1 jean jacket that he loves more than life itself, both his mom and Stella keep trying to burn it because it’s that old but he guards it with his life.
He starts wearing more button up shirts, turtlenecks and slightly less baggy jeans. He gets shirts with cute patterns (he has one with kitten paws) or graphic t-shirts from fandoms. He also wears a newer jean jacket with patches that Stella made but still has the old one.
Nabu: he has a cool casual style if that makes sense? Not sure?
His main colors are purples, blues, grays and neutral tones.
He wears chinos, button up shirts, cool vans, loose sweaters. Cool long sleeved, loose shirts. Leather bracelets and hawaiian-style shirts only with patterns that are more ‘fashionable’.
Fire-round for the Trix’s styles in season 1 since all fashion has gone out the window for them for different reasons.
Icy: main colors; blues and silvers
HIGH PONYTAIL, leather skirts, crystals and crop tops. Thigh high boots, belts, strappy tops high heels and mini skirts with chains.
Stormy: main colors; dark reds, black and blue
Punk. Ripped fishnets, black, ripped graphic t’s, belts, off-shoulder shirts and plaid shirts over black bras.
Darcy: main colors; purple, yellow and grays.
Long bell pants, vests and blazers. Circles/weird patters, small sunglasses. Platforms and simple crop tops.
There!
Now, you may be asking, Dragonfly did you seriously just HAVE THIS in your fucking character sheets since before season 1 began?
…yes, yes I did. I HAD A LOT OF FREE TIME AND IT WAS PART OF THE CHARACTERIZATION. Also I was pissed at what Fate did with fashion and that’s why s1 had a lot of descriptions of what the girls were wearing
Also also, fun fact, I found in Stormy’s character sheet that her real name was going to be Rita? And I just didn’t remember I’d already decided her real name and just changed it to Willow and I hadn’t remembered the name change until now? So uh… yeah?
Anyways, hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 2: I'm Not Sorry
Summary:
Virgil and Remy sleep together and it takes Virgil a long time to get over it. He starts dating this cute guy named Emile who couldn’t be further from his old flame, thinking that this guy would be safe to open up to after it all.

Remy wasn’t expecting his first step into the kitchen that morning to be met with such a dower expression from his partner. There they were, one of the most wonderful people in the world—as far as he was concerned at least—leaned up against the counter with a frown tugging at their features while they scrolled through their phone. It seemed Emile didn’t even notice that the kettle they were filling at the sink had started to overflow. Rather, the tap water just continued to over pour into the sink and down the drain.
Without a word, the first thing Remy did was switch off the faucet, smoothly slinging up the handle of the kettle to place it on the stove to heat. He gave Emile a little hip bump as he slid past. Emile looked up at him with a sheepish expression and apologetic grin as they finally looked up from the little screen.
“Sorry, starlight,” Emile said, placing their phone flat on the counter as they reached up a hand to brush it over his shoulder.
Their smile softened, and he stayed in place, reaching an arm around their waist to tug them just a little bit closer. He could feel the way they melted into his arms, leaning their soft cheek against his shoulder just the way he expected. Emile was already dressed for the day in a long pleated beige skirt, a soft satin blouse with a gray cardigan nestled over their shoulders, but Remy was still in a t-shirt and flannels. He hoped it made him a little bit cozier for them and Remy was half-tempted to try and coax Emile to call off ‘sick’ to work and come back to bed so he could keep them in his arms for a few more hours and away from whatever it was that was causing them early morning grief.
Did it matter that he didn’t know what it was yet? Not really. He was sure they could figure out the who, what, when, where, why, and how once he’d helped them through a bit more relaxation.
As much as he wanted to ask, he didn’t, knowing they’d never agree, not with the fact that they’d just taken a few days off the other week with a flu. No, he’d just have to get the touch and grounding in that he could that morning before they left for the day.
“What’s on your mind, north?” Remy whispered into the quiet of the early hours.
Really it was far too early for either of them to be up as far as he was concerned, with the approaching winter months, the sun hadn’t even risen yet. What godforsaken morning person decided that any human being should be up before even the birds?
“It’s V,” Emile admitted, lifting their head to look up into his eyes, as if searching for some kind of reassurance. They usually weren’t the type, but something was up.
“Your other partner,” Remy confirmed, keeping a steady gaze as he tried to keep his expression from wavering.
He couldn’t say there wasn’t jealousy there, of course there was a little bit. Emile and he had started their relationship with the mutual agreement that they wouldn’t be exclusive, that neither of them really believed in it, but…
…Well for Remy that had always meant non-emotional relationships. He’d never even considered the prospect of being able to fall in love with someone else. Emile had never once seemed jealous, only confident of their place in his life, and he did his best to reconfirm just how much they meant to him.
It was just that when they came home one day and not only admitted that they had started taking an interest in someone, but that they had started to have strong emotional feelings for this other person, Remy didn’t know how to feel. There was a lot of anguish in the beginning. He’d done his best to try and keep that from Emile, not wanting to burden them with the emotional fallout of something that he technically should have always known was a possibility.
Facing the insecurity of the reality of it was a whole other situation.
It took a lot of self-reflection on his part, a lot of facing his own limitations and insecurities. He couldn’t say that he was all the way there all the time, but… well, every time they talked about this new mysterious guy that had entered their life, the way they lit up with joy, he loved that for them. He wanted to keep seeing that smile, the way that they bubbled with excitement when their phone dinged with a message or the way they spent extra care in choosing their clothes before a date with him.
No, he couldn’t take that joy away from them, rather, Remy just wanted to keep being a part of it, keep being another source of it, something else to keep that soft smile on their face. He was certain that his North Star was far too good for this world, and if someone else was seeing that, someone that made them happy…
He couldn’t see that as a bad thing, not really, not when he pushed past the initial reaction to realize any thoughts otherwise were just stemming from his own rooted insecurity. They had done nothing to cause any doubt in his mind that they loved him, not with the way they smiled at him, reached for him, nestled into his arms like he was thier safe space.
If it wasn’t abundantly clear, Remy had done a lot of thinking, a lot of introspection recently, wanting to ensure he entered into this situation from the best perspective that he could muster.
What he hadn’t considered was the sudden lack of control he was feeling.
It had just occurred to him that Emile was hanging their heart on this whole other person and that they had the power to break it, if they wanted to, and there wasn’t a thing he could do about it. Not really. That made a panic rise in his chest that he wasn’t really sure how to handle. All he could do was tighten his grip a little bit more. He couldn’t protect them from this, but he could support them at the very least.
“What happened?” Remy asked in a hush, nuzzling in against the back of their crown as he pressed a kiss to the very edge of their hairline. He wanted to maintain the early morning peace just a little bit longer for them.
“Nothing really,” Emile said, pulling their arms in and wrapping them over his. “It’s just that I messaged V about meeting you last night after our date, and he’s just felt a little distant since then,” they said, looking as if they were doubting their own words. They knew, logically, that there could be a lot of reasons that could cause someone to get quiet for a little while, but sometimes timing could be a scary thing when you were used to having a mind that was quick to analyze cause and effect.
He could see where Emile was going with this.
“Maybe he overslept?” Remy asked, doubting it himself. With the way he’d seen the pair of them messaging back and forth recently, he was certain that Emile would have already known if that were the case. “Try not to overthink it until you get the facts, North?”
Despite him asking, despite Emile’s hesitant nod, he knew they would anyway, they couldn’t help it, overthinking was just in their nature.
“It’s probably nothing…” Emile trailed off, even as doubt and worry lingered on their face as the very first rays of dawn started to break over the horizon. The way the sunrays slipped through the kitchen window and illuminated his North Star from behind made for such an ethereal sight that he was a bit taken aback by the way they could just simply glow.
They looked at their phone again and Remy hoped this wouldn’t become a nervous habit as they scrolled over the screen again, looking for a message that just wasn’t there. There was a odd juxtaposition between how humanizing Emile’s worry was compared to the way they looked in that first break of dawn. He was sure they didn’t notice the effect they had. They never did, that their strange and giddy outlook on the world had swept him up in a whirlwind of adoration for as long as he could remember.
“Do you want to see a picture from yesterday?” They asked, holding out the little screened device to him at an angle for him to take. He’d always appreciated how readily they offered access and answers to anything and everything without a thought, like it never really occurred to them to hide things from him. He knew the shorthand of the new partner’s name was in respect of their boundaries as he and Emile started to figure out a new relationship and where Remy fit into it all. “I really like this one,” they said, a soft smile overtaking their face and he could feel them relaxing beneath his arms just the tiniest bit.
Remy accepted the offering and held up the phone, getting a better look at the new angle as he held it for them both to see. And there Emile was, side-by-side with a ghost.
“Oh, fuck-”
-----------
Virgil wasn’t sure when he went from successfully avoiding Emile for a few modest hours, to his phone blowing up with a number of texts and calls that he was struggling to process, much less respond to. Someone wanted to talk to him, be it Emile or Remy, he wasn’t sure, but he didn’t know what to do in the current situation.
A little afraid that Emile might try knocking on his apartment door to seek him out, Virgil slunk away that morning, grabbing drive-thru coffee, rather than his usual at the bakery he’d frequented since coming back to town, and slipped into the building on the end of main street that his “boss” was renting out for the sake of collaboration, and equipment, more than it being a true work space.
Virgil had only been in the place a handful of times in his weeks since returning, specifically for meetings and the like of where they wanted to go with the story. His first time here, Remus had him play through the previous game, start to finish, to get a sense of the vibes and a working knowledge of the storyline. Once he was able to get a summary of where they wanted to go next with the project, Virgil was able to come back with some concept sketches for environments, levels, characters, and other scenes.
But really, almost all his work could be done online, even the meetings technically. Remus was a very physical person though, especially when it came to creative ventures, so nothing beat the kind of feedback he got when the developer grabbed a pen and started jotting down notes directly on his concept work.
Speaking of Remus…
There was a clattering in the hall as some equipment that Remus was carrying in suddenly slipped from his arms as soon as he caught sight of Virgil, chillin’ in the corner with his tablet with the lights off. There was a series of expletives cursed out, in what sounded to be at least three different languages, but it ended on a satisfying “Fucking, dammit!” as Remus dragged a hand down his face, before moving to grab all of the pieces. What looked like sound and recording equipment scattered to the floor and Virgil hoped that Remus got some sort of warranty on it all, because it seemed pretty fucking expensive to just be dropped the like that. Maybe the packaging would hold up and prevent any of it from being broken in ‘transport,’ but really, that wasn’t his business. He wasn’t getting involved in the VA of the game.
“What the hell are you doing here at bum fuck in the morning?” Remus asked in a much calmer tone once the boxes were placed (hopefully) safely on a table to be sorted and dealt with. Virgil only gave him a cursory glance, knowing he was welcome. He might be less so in the coming weeks, when they were further along in the project and as Remus’ brother recruited more talent, but for now, with him being only one of three employees in total, not including the brothers who ran the project, they had the space to spare and he barely took up a corner anyway.
“Avoidance,” Virgil said with a shrug before looking at the time on his tablet. “What are you doing here? I don’t usually see you on the grind until at least noon.” That wasn’t completely true, usually Remus seemed to take care of things out of office, the boring stuff like networking, talking to people, corporate meetings, and other stupid stuff that Virgil wanted to avoid like the plague and knew for a fact that Remus hated nearly as much. Virgil knew that Remus had a brother that took care of most of the social side of things, but as a co-owner of their game development company, Remus couldn’t stay completely uninvolved.
“Setting up for interviews,” Remus said, looking sour at the prospect. Ah yes, more talking to people to get things done. If Virgil was evidence of anything, he was a friend of a friend kinda a guy and didn’t seem too fond of the idea of working with strangers. “Avoiding what now?”
Virgil just shrugged and passed over the phone that he’d set on the table beside him, after putting it on silent. He could still feel the phantom sensations of the near-constant buzzing as a string of messages all came through at once.
Remus accepted it with little fanfare. The device was still locked, but he could access the notification center on the lock screen.
“A bunch of shit from Em…” Remus noted, eyes half-lidded as he glanced over the popups. He looked up at Virgil again for a moment, as if things were clicking into place behind his weirdly calculating eyes. For being a game developer with an avoidant personality, he sure could fucking read people. “Isn’t that your new beau?”
Virgil didn’t respond, didn’t have to, by the look on Remus’ face the other man already knew. Virgil just pulled his legs in, feet flat on the edge of the chair as he buried himself as much as he could into his hoodie like an amorphous blob that definitely wasn’t a person that was procrastinating on hard conversations.
Who him?
Never.
“You know what I’m going to tell you, right?”
“Don’t let it affect your work?” Virgil asked in a deadpan, glancing up at Remus from beneath the hemline of his hood in a challenge.
“First of all, fuck you, I didn’t choose this capitalist hellscape any more than you did,” Remus retorted immediately crossing his arms, Virgil may have hit a nerve there. “Second of all, get your ass out of here and go talk to them you dumbass.”
Virgil stared a moment longer, pulling his tablet in against his chest as he stared at Remus petulantly. Absolutely like fuck if he was just going to talk about things and try to resolve them because his boss told him to, it’s not like Remus had any real say on his personal life.
“Out,” Remus said, pointing at the door as he shooed him towards it. “Go take care of your mental health things and come back once you have. Your work will be shit until you get this resolved anyway.”
Virgil made a disgruntled and offended noise, if they hadn’t been friends for years before the weirdness of their employee/employer situation set in, he might have held back from blowing raspberries at Remus but given their friendship and Virgil’s security in his place, he didn’t hold back, getting the same mirrored back in return as he stomped out the freshly painted front door and onto the cracked cobblestone street.
This was certainly the weirdest company he’d ever worked for, but he didn’t think he’d ever leave if he could help it.

Downton Abbey Fashion 57 - indoors fashion in 1924
Cora’s day wardrobe this season is a mixed bag. Some have me go, “oh, so pretty!”; others have me think they really want her to look like a grandma now. I realize that I’m saying this as a 2020s person about 1920s fashions, so my perception may be warped.
Granny outfit number one. I’m usually a fan of embroidery, but I think this shirt would look less frumpy if said embroidery reached up to the shoulders. Also if it had literally any other collar. Even a neckline without a collar would’ve been better. The chiffon being a bit more on the peach side rather than puke puce would also help. Meh. Still, this does stay on for season 6.
Pretty boring shirt, but despite my distaste for white on Cora post-Edwardian, it’s at least not as dowdy as the last one. Curiously, this plus a scarf plus a flowery hat is fancy enough for Cora to wear to Rose’s wedding. Who am I to criticize. The lace yoke is nice, the silk satin is shiny, but I mainly took this in for the coat Cora has around her shoulders in the second picture. Printed silk satin, I would guess, and it looks lovely.
One of her loveliest house dresses over the entire show – why does everyone get something in this blue this season? Anyway. A few pin tucks to give the shoulders a little shaping, lace trim galore, one of those fluttery layered skirts that looks even better for most of this being lightweight chiffon. This whole dress appears like a summer day. It comes back next season, as really most of her new indoor outfits of season 5 do.
I’ll never escape bland cream silk satin blouses. This one is a wrap top style with the kind of large collar that plays at being a sailor collar, it’s got some cuffs, some either meant-to-be-beige or strongly yellowed lace to fill out the cleavage V… Nothing wrong with it.
This teal dress is one Cora wears combined with her orange satin coat a lot, especially during her time being courted by Mr Bricker. At least Fellowes didn’t have a red A stitched on it; he’s unsubtle like that. The dress is a bit stiff-looking and rectangular for my taste, but the overall design with the curlicues down the front is really pleasant to look at. When this comes back in season 6, I get a look at the knife-pleated panels inserted into the sides of the skirt.
Another granny blouse, so I guess that qualifies it to stay into the next season. There’s something about this particular shape of short but standing collar that my brain registers as unflattering. The embroidered material is nice though; the peach color with those lilac leaves and pink flowers makes for a nice look overall. It looks rectangular as ever, but what can you do.
Ivory silk satin and a straight-lined rectangle blouse, although I’m inclined to forgive this one because it brings in fringe, a playful element that adds movement to the look. Other than that, the double row of buttons down the front is probably not necessary, but I sure like to look at it, and then we have a little embroidered trim everywhere. Perhaps not surprisingly with my weakness for fringe, I rather like this and happily welcome it back in season 6.
Amidst all the ivory and cream silk satin, I am grateful for a black dress for a change, even if it has this weird little standing collar. Gathered chiffon sleeves, deep V shape over the front (even though here it’s not via the cut but via the decoration); that much we know. And then the majority of the front is covered in leafy cream lace that is framed with embroidered flowers in pink and red shades. Another holdover for the next season.
Heh, this is the sort of uneven grey shade you get by layering a very translucent black chiffon (or, in case of the sleeves, tulle) over a white or off-white base layer. I like it; it’s more cloudy and therefore more interesting to look at than a perfectly even surface color. And then it’s embroidered all over with this web of flowers, very sweet, so this stays into the next season, too.
There is strictly speaking nothing wrong with this. Cora wears her well-established cream satin, it’s got a few pin tucks, and this neckline design adds a point of interest. I’ll flat-out admit that I just personally don’t have a taste for this kind of unbound-tie-through-loophole front design. It shows up several times in the Crawleys’ 1920s outfits, but I never warm up to it. So, I’m glad this is mostly put on background duty for ensembles and coats in season 6.
--------------
We’ll end on something that is to my taste – this glorious day dress Lady Sinderby marches up in to greet her guests. It’s mostly chiffon and all flowers, and it adds up to such a fluttery, breezy look that she may as well pose as a garden fairy. There’s some draping over the chest, some layering in these little triangle panels of the skirt, yet the dress looks almost weightless. Love it.
