would you consider golden retrievers a beginner dog? i've been thinking of getting a dog for years now but only just started to do the research but the cuteness of the big goldies is hard to ignore. i guess what im asking is are they very hard to train!
I would say that goldens are THE beginner dog, lmao, if it's going to be your first time training a dog then it might as well be a golden! Hugo wasn't hard to train! training a dog isn't "easy" per se, but it's very doable, you teach them little things day-by-day and it builds into the behaviors you want! but goldens are really very receptive to training!! they aim to please, they love treats, they respond strongly to praise. so it's really rewarding for everybody involved. Hugo was the first dog I ever trained! my fam had Great Danes before, but I was a kid back then, and didn't have any hand in raising them, so I was starting fresh this time.
#I followed the McCann Dogs youtube training vids and used all positive reinforcement on Hugo and it worked great#they're great dogs lol and I'm biased. Labradors have almost the exact same temperament!#but I wanted a dog with long fluffy fur :3#trick training is EASY and my FAVORITE!!!! I love training tricks. Hugo loved learning new tricks day after day#training Skills is a little more challenging but still doable for a beginner. crate training and Walk training are long-hauls.#but yeah! this is NOT a dog with a learning curve!#sergle answers#Hugo

WELL i drew my first charoum, but he has no shading because. i don't want to. that's something for the me who's practiced in the future to tackle. the me who didn't have to google "how do you erase in procreate". the me who didn't spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how to move layers around. etc.
okay things that i learned during this exercise: 1. i hate the brush that i used. pick a better brush. this matters. 2. better to have 8000 layers than to fuck yourself by wanting to change your character's skin color, only to realize you also drew his hair outline on that layer. 3. you can't just draw a bunch of lines for hair. you actually need to lineart that. i didn't do that here. which is why it. uh. looks like that. hehe <3
okay that's it <3 he's watching gorty (currently on hour 34 of no sleep) almost blow his hand up because he fucked up one of the arcane components of a steel watch prototype. yes charoum knows healing word. no he has never once used it on anyone.
#doing this made me much more motivated to actually practice! which is good because i'll be honest#i wasn't positive the drawing thing would be an easy new years resolution to keep#but it turns out sucking at something that you KNOW you can improve at is actually kinda fun#the potential rise in skill is cool to imagine and easy to chase :)#<- i'm sure i'll eat these words in like 2 months after the Super Beginner's Learning Curve fades#and it becomes a matter of Seeing what i'm doing wrong but not knowing how to fix it#because right now i can See what i'm doing wrong and also know if i wanted to i could google practices to fix it#so. alfkdjsalk <3#charoum#vince art

alright my TTRPG hot take on main is I really hate how hard it is to follow anyone in the indie design scene without inevitably having to see takes about how all crunchy d20 systems are bad and how there’s definitely an indie system that’s superior for your game (mechanically and narratively)
and I’m gonna be real. I get really annoyed and frustrated by these posts because I play a non-D&D (but non-indie) crunchy d20 system as my main game of choice. I wouldn’t chime in on an indie game recommendations post to say “play Pathfinder” because obviously Paizo isn’t a little indie shop (which is why I’m making my own post lmao). And Pathfinder obviously has issues all over the place. But I’ve rarely, if ever, seen indie games touching the design space that I genuinely really enjoy, which is mostly covered by Long-standing Big Label Non-5e Games, which is crunchy rules for tactical combat.
Like idk. If I’m playing a game that isn’t heavily combat focused, I’m gonna go for an indie game rather than shoehorning a crunchy system because I love indie games and design. But indie games don’t really deal with that particular design niche of crunchy, tactical games much (or in the very few examples I’ve found and played, they have lots of weird balance issues of their own and tend to require a TON of work on the part of the GM because they lack the depth of content of Big Label systems).
TL;DR wish I could have a nice time seeing indie design posts without regularly seeing people essentially lambast something I very much enjoy in the games I play
#the OGL stuff is bringing out some nasty bad takes and I’m sad#every SINGLE time I find a designer I like!#every SINGLE time they eventually come out with the ‘actually all d20 big label tactical combat systems are bad’#I don’t like 5e because it’s not tactical ENOUGH or crunchy ENOUGH for me#it’s TOO BEGINNER FRIENDLY#I’m FULLY AWARE that there’s a gigantic learning curve on PF and it’s a major problem#ffs I play the goddamn game and I’m not an elitist asshole#but I really enjoy that style of game and put in the effort to learn those systems#rose's ramblings#ttrpgs

i want a 3D printer so bad for costume purposes but. everyone i follow who owns one on twitter. 50% of their posts abt the fucking things is them needing maintenance or fucking up in some way and it really seems like you need to be fairly computer-smart to operate one. or at least fix one.
#i can barely navigate a sculpting program (im trying tho)#it just seems like a HUGE money sink just for the trial and error aspect#let alone the learning curve of trouble shooting#i want a resin printer specifically. from the research ive done they seem well fit for my needs#but god. even the ‘beginner’ ones have oodles of reddit threads and hour-long vids on troubleshooting#mars elegoo. i wont you.

ughhhhhh i have this homework for one class that involves doing these after effects tutorials and like i know i should just go do it at the library because they have some macbooks with the creative cloud stuff on them. i'm worried about trying to install and use after effects on my computer right now because of the Issues it's having because it's bad enough trying to run clip studio, photoshop, illustrator, etc (which are in fact most likely driver related issues and not the screen, found that out AFTER replacing the screen) and i have my sisters last computer as my backup somewhere around here i was thinking about trying to install it on there but i can't fucking find it rn
#was trying to make progress on them in class but the curve handles refused to show on screen so i couldn't do certain steps#which is. a problem#google was not helping me either. lowkey still scared to ask that teacher questions#he seems fine now that its an intermediate class and not a beginner one but man he acted like anyone who needed help was an idiot then

Fundamentals, Week 2 - Homework task
This week, we have been given a homework task to be done in pairs. This task involves us finding a line drawing on the internet to give to our partner to be replicated on adobe illustrator making use of everything we have learned so far. The image I have been given is a monkey which, I can already tell, will be making use of a lot of the techniques shown to us in our last class.
I started off by placing my image into my canvas as a visual reference.
I started with the top of the head as it seemed an easy enough shape to replicate and start off with, also being the bulk of the image, i felt it was a good starting point.
above is my first attempt at the whole general shape of the main portion of the head. I am quite happy with how it turned out! Although it's definitely not correct, I feel I have managed to replicate some of the curves quite well, mainly toward the bottom of the head. Making use of curve points, hybrid points, and broken points. I will now adjust these by moving around the anchors to get a more satisfactory shape.
readjusted the general shape by manipulating the anchors that make up the head and added ears. the ears were surprisingly challenging as half circles, on that angle, weren't the easiest thing to recreate when compared to the basic arches we have been doing in class but I'm sure is something ill get used to in time. Still, so far satisfied with the results so far!
as predicted, the circle-shaped mouth wasn't too difficult as I'm now quite comfortable making circular shapes using Bezier curves, although I did notice on the reference image that it comes to a subtle point toward the top which I attempted to replicate and sort of achieved? Achieve in the way that it's not exactly the same image but I feel my attempt gives off a similar effect to that of the reference photo, which I'm happy with. So I continue.
The shape around the eyes was something I was not looking forward to doing as the dip in the middle was something I struggled with in class when replicating the simple shapes from the whiteboard. Regardless I feel my result isn't too bad for a first attempt! It is definitely something I can see myself improving on as it did take me a couple tries to get correct, but with time, practice, and going over my notebook, I'm sure it is something that will get easier with time.
Final touches. before sending my finished product to my partner I re-adjusted some parts like the eyes, mouth, and ears just to get it slightly more true to the reference photo. although it isn't dead perfect, I am happy with how it has turned out. I definitely learned a lot during this process and do feel more confident in adobe illustrator. in fact, I feel like starting the whole thing over again and seeing how much better I can make it in a second round. There is a lot more fine-tuning to be done and much more to learn and get used to and I look forward to honing in on these areas and improving on them. I also look forward to seeing what changes my partner makes to this as well as what they have come out with from the image I have supplied them.
