Finally getting a chance to get back to this stack of books On my desk. Finishing #BeFreeOrDie the story of unsung #american #hero #robertsmalls. His daring escape from slavery to being elected to Congress is truly super hero sh**. Highly celebrated then but today most don’t even know of him. You can’t tell the story of America without the contributions of Robert Smalls. Please don’t wait for Betsy Devos to enlighten you. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bvo6xhDlrI_/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=glmhlg0f7qdw

[Monday 11-4-19]: Harriet movie!!! Harriet was amazing!!! This movie is based on Harriet Tubman life of greeing slaves. Oooo. The actor that plays Harriet....she was fire and all kinds of amazing! The whole film, cast and how the movie is portrayed is amazing! There is some fictional "jibba-jabba" here and there for what i suspect is for drama purposes but it was still amazing. Really loved cinematography especially the night time scenes. The way the blue lighting at night hit the faces, walls and other areas just really stood out to me. "It was lit." [Yes, my lame pun was intended. XD] Back to Harriet, the way she stood up to the evil that is slavery, her faith in God to help her through her life, her willingness to go back to free other slaves after she was free herself knowing the dangers, her selfless-ness is just inspiring. Harriet was amazing to watch. Definitely wanna watch again! SN: maybe it was a production schedule issue but i thought Harriet would have been better if it came out in February to go along with Black History month? SN2: Also, it was really nice to see so many black actors in this movie even the extras. Like all of them had this beauty to them in their faces, their smiles, their hair, their attire and yea. They were all beautiful. Maybe im just having a moment? Haha. It's hard to explain...umm...lets call it Black beauty. Mmmmhmmmm. #Harriet #movie #film #amazing #biography #history #faith #God #family #befreeordie #cinematography #inspiring #lifelessons #blackbeauty #blackhistory #unofficialmoviereview #moviejunkie https://www.instagram.com/p/B4dmyWigN2g/?igshid=1nb1lsje67okv

Be FREE or DIE Harriet Tubman movie. ______ Born a slave in Dorchester County, Maryland, Tubman was beaten and whipped by her various masters as a child. Early in life, she suffered a traumatic head wound when an irate slave owner threw a heavy metal weight intending to hit another slave, but hitting her instead. The injury caused dizziness, pain, and spells of hypersomnia, which occurred throughout her life. After her injury, Tubman began experiencing strange visions and vivid dreams, which she ascribed to premonitions from God. These experiences, combined with her Methodist upbringing, led her to become devoutly religious. In 1849, Tubman escaped to Philadelphia, then immediately returned to Maryland to rescue her family. Slowly, one group at a time, she brought relatives with her out of the state, and eventually guided dozens of other slaves to freedom. Traveling by night and in extreme secrecy, Tubman (or "Moses", as she was called) "never lost a passenger".[3] After the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 was passed, she helped guide fugitives farther north into British North America, and helped newly freed slaves find work. Tubman met John Brown in 1858, and helped him plan and recruit supporters for his 1859 raid on Harpers Ferry. When the Civil War began, Tubman worked for the Union Army, first as a cook and nurse, and then as an armed scout and spy. The first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war, she guided the raid at Combahee Ferry, which liberated more than 700 slaves. After the war, she retired to the family home on property she had purchased in 1859 in Auburn, New York, where she cared for her aging parents. She was active in the women's suffrage movement until illness overtook her, and she had to be admitted to a home for elderly African Americans that she had helped to establish years earlier. After her death in 1913, she became an icon of courage and freedom. #harriettubman #abolitionist #slavery #freedom #fight #racism #befreeordie #undergroundrailroad #run @intlilovebraidsdayblc https://www.instagram.com/p/B4Rbp3vgzHH/?igshid=1a57y2nuevw0p

On the 3rd of July, my 16 year old son asked me what I thought our forefathers were doing on that day, July 3rd, 1776. I said, "Son, they were about to sign a document that would seal their fates in that they would either fight to win their freedom or die trying. If they were to live and lose the effort to win that freedom, they would have been executed by England for treason and the world would be completely different than what it is today. That it not only planted the seedbed for freedom across this land but laid the bedrock for all peoples to be free because God created all men equal with inalienable rights (of which the founders agreed & wrote as a foundational treatise, a collective philosophy at the time, of which guaranteed the “inalienable rights” because they were “endowed by their Creator” in the first paragraphs of the “Declaration”). They were preparing to sign their names to insure a legacy of truth or be the document that would criminalize standing for the truth. And then.....I'm sure they BBQ'd tri-tip!!!!😜 Hope you had a great and Happy 4th🙏⛱🎇. . . .#freedomrings #inalienablerights #forefathers #independence #independence_day #wisdomoftheday #wisewordsoftheday #befreeordie #colors_of_day #allforone #sovereignnation #collectivetruths #declarationofindependence #constitutional #winemaker #ifweloseallislost #fightfortruth #whywefight #loveyourcountry #endowedbyourcreator #freetospeak #firstammendment #historyfacts #visionaries #withoutvisionpeopleperish #toocoolforschool #speakout #killinglies #ourflag #meaningfulquotes (at Redhaus Wines)

#Repost @17thsoulja4 with @repostapp #befreeordie ・・・ Harriet Tubman helped her brothers escape on Christmas day, 1854. Their 'master' intended to sell them after Christmas, but was delayed by the holiday. The brothers were expected to spend the day with their elderly mother but met Tubman in secret. She helped them travel north, gaining a head start on the 'master' who did not discover their disappearance until the end of the holidays. Two years later she brought away her parents, who were at risk of arrest for aiding other runaway slaves. ▫ Tubman returned to the South again and again. She devised clever techniques that helped make her "forays" successful, including using the master's horse and buggy for the first leg of the journey; leaving on a Saturday night, since runaway notices couldn't be placed in newspapers until Monday morning; turning about and heading south if she encountered possible slave hunters; and carrying a drug to use on a baby if its crying might put the fugitives in danger. Tubman even carried a gun which she used to threaten the fugitives if they became too tired or decided to turn back, telling them, "You'll be free or die." #HarrietTubman #MosesForThePeople #theblaquelioness #17thsoulja #BlackIG17th 📷 @theblaquelioness
