#Novembeat2023: Day 19 - Beetrayal Pt. 2: The Beequel

I do find it ironic how both Bee pieces have stupid pun names despite being cinematic pieces based on a serious story about the rebellion of a bee-fae hive against their queen.

There he is, minding his own business, cutting up some melon for a midmorning snack. The sun is shining, the trees are rustling in the soft breeze, it's a wonderful day even.

And yet.

What's that saying? That if a toddler's silent, you should worry? It was something along those lines. Though in this instance, it was a grown-ass man being too quiet for his own good, Zelos Wilder.

Lloyd hears the rustling of leaves change with the gathering and release of wind mana. But he doesn't sense any enemies nearby, nor does he hear the telltale clang of blades, so that could only mean his companion was up to something. And that something required silence.

So he stops, stills himself for once to listen.

And then he hears it. A certain buzzing noise getting ever so louder, and angrier the closer it comes.

Zelos (Middle Name) Wilder, you dare throw a beehive at him? The savior of your lunch? Your buddy?

" Guardian! "

He braces himself for the following thud of said beehive slamming against the cage of mana around him (and their food). Of course, with the impact, the hive itself cracks open, and from its entrails a swarm of enraged bees scream around him. He concentrates on extending the arte, though a small portion of mana condenses in his open palm. It's not enough to light a flame, like what Zelos or Genis can do, but it's enough that he's able to take a leftover onion and cause the skin to smoke.

Bees don't like smoke, didn't you know?

And something about Sylvaranti onions is that, compared to their Tethe'allan siblings, they smoke a lot when set aflame.

The burning vegetable skins make the air pungent, and he sets the onion into a spare bowl he'd brought out for lunch prep. The length of the arte tires him out just slightly; Guardian is never supposed to be held for longer than a few seconds, and he's held it for half a minute now. But the smoke works to a degree, and as the seconds turn into minutes, the bees die down enough to fly away from him. Guardian drops finally.

Oh he's gonna strangle Zelos.

" Zelos! "

He calls out to his wayward companion, fake smile plastered on his face in the direction the hive came from. He knows Zelos can hear him.

" I hope you like squid, because we're having seafood stew for lunch! "

And you're on squid duty.

Monsoon met its date this year after 7 years. It is a decade since I have experienced Kalavarsham in Kerala. As tiny tots, the school used to reopen on June 1st and we would all get into the small Matador Blue Van with muddy shoes, windows shut which would fog soon & then we will be making drawings or alphabets on it. Since it had been raining since yesterday , we wanted to have something chatpata. That is when I remembered @handpickedbypc 's mother Rani Chadha 's Pindi Chole Recipe from Rawalpindi. From what I gathered online, the Amritsari Pindi Chole is different from this and is brighter in appearance. According to Puneeta, it is Sacrilege to use tea bags or Dried amla in her home for making Pindi Chole. Now this is what I find interesting about the recipe , it doesn't use onion, Tomatoes , Garlic or chillies. It is pretty much a recipe which could have been in existence even before the Portuguese set shores in Calicut. It uses a dry Roasted spice mix of peppercorns, cumin, black Cardamom , Coriander & Dried pomegranate seeds. The tanginess also comes from tamarind . The chickpeas is boiled with some bayleaf & black Cardamom as well. I did add some jaggery in a departure from the recipe because I like it a tad sweet & I think my version is probably drier than it should be. This is a vegan recipe since I used Kachi Ghani Mustard oil .
