My whole life I thought that it was some weird byproduct of the oil industry, and I never questioned that belief.

I suddenly remembered every time I had called it “petroleum jelly” and thought that I must’ve looked like a massive idiot.

Anyway, anything that enters my brain is immediately converted into the action of pulling up a Wikipedia article, and as it turns out, it actually is called “petroleum jelly” (which consists of white petrolatum) and is a weird byproduct of the oil industry

was talking to my mom about how white people ignore the contributions of poc to academia and I found myself saying the words "I bet those idiots think Louis Pasteur was the first to discover germ theory"

which admittedly sounded pretentious as fuck but I'm just so angry that so few people know about the academic advancements during the golden age of Islam.

Islamic doctors were washing their hands and equipment when Europeans were still shoving dirty ass hands into bullet wounds. ancient Indians were describing tiny organisms worsening illness that could travel from person to person before Greece and Rome even started theorizing that some illnesses could be transmitted

also, not related to germ theory, but during the golden age of Islam, they developed an early version of surgery on the cornea. as in the fucking eye. and they were successful

and what have white people contributed exactly?

please go research the golden age of Islamic academia. so many of us wouldn't be alive today if not for their discoveries

its so insane to me ppl consider stuff like "dead games" after just a few months?? and that its too old and irrelevant to play now?? i play shit from like several years ago all the time a lot of my favorite games that I play over and over are over 10 years old at least. i just can never understand that like constantly needing things to be new or still receiving updates especially for stuff that doesn't require online play. like i can understand say like splatoon 1 being a dead game bc the servers for it are no longer up so you cant really play it now besides the story mode but like . nothing is stopping you from playing a game that came out like a year ago.

My local queer bookstore is being forced out of their gentrified neighborhood over their free narcan and fentanyl test strips, free store for the unhoused, and free narcan trainings.

Bluestockings is an incredible worker-owned community space that has been apart of the Lower East Side for 25 years. But in the last couple years, they've faced increasing harassment from the wealthier neighbors moving in and complaining about the presence of unhoused people around their store front. Despite all their community work being allowed by their lease, the landlord is pushing for an eviction.
