So I LOVE Tim Burton movies. But not Nightmare Before Christmas or Corpse Bride in a cult following sort of way. Sorry. Nope, I chose to go bat shit fanatical about Beetlejuice.
SO n a t u r a l l y I have to get my boyfriend Jerrod to dawn the suit. It was beautiful.
Sort of...
His suit? 10/10. He’s a big dude. 6′3″ of big dude, actually. So finding a suit took a lot of thrift store patience. Once we got the pants and coat I just needed to find a way to stripe it. I pulled out some duck tape, carefully measured out even spaced stripes, and tried that fancy expensive spray fabric paint and let me tell you what crap that stuff is.
So a trip to walmart, $4 later, I had matte white spray paint. It was beautiful. The way the paint gives uneven dirty ghosty sort of tones instead of clean fresh white lines makes It look like I freshly dug this suit up out of a Tim Burton costume trunk and slapped it onto my beetleboyfriend.
My dress was rough. A lot of people had a harder time placing me and I’m certain it was the short dress and lack of overall 90′s goth. But for doing this in under a month, I knew it wasn’t a polished cosplay. I grabbed an old camera from my basement, repainted a book from Goodwill to be the Handbook for the Recently Deceased, grabbed a hat from Target, and I was on my way.
LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT JERRODS RIDICULOUSLY HUGE HEAD
I can’t even get over how big his head is. FINDING A WIG IS A GOD DAMN NIGHTMARE. You probably sit there rolling your eyes thinking “So? Can’t be that big. Something has to work” No. It doesnt.
So we made do with a cheap zombie wig from a local store, figuring it was passable. I tried to cut it (key word: tried) and put some green into it, but we were just never satisfied with it. (The wig has since been majorly upgraded)
The makeup on him is all grease paints (I didn’t use nearly enough white base) and some real moss liquid latexed to his face. That was fun getting off. People seemed really surprised by the whole real moss thing, which surprised me that others hadn’t really thought about it before. I keep reptiles, so I always just seem to have some lying around.
Our pictures all look awkward because we really hadn’t gotten the hang of posing in character for pictures just yet. Boy did we improve by our second time around.
So there you have it, our first adventure as BJ and lyds.
Since we both have WTNC bfs I’m just gonna slide my hunter into Finn’s introduction scene which I wrote out once
Bc she’s small [aka in 5’2” and he’s at least 6’4” most likely] him pinning her to the wall to eye level is just her dangling from the wall. Then he has the audacity to pinch her cheeks bc haha smol round face hunter. She is not pleased.
