Operation Deku Day- Izuku Midoriya
author’s note: hiiii! so today’s inspiration is drunk sex. anyone who’s ever had drunk sex before knows that shit hit different. Something about it is soo nasty and hot ugh I’m a sucker. I firmly believe that izuku is an insatiable sex god don’t let that innocent sweetness fool you so he was the perfect candidate for my idea. please enjoy! all characters are aged up 18 +
warnings: cussing, smut!, alcohol use, breeding kink? and sex under the influence. also light degradation
summary: For Izuku’s 21st birthday you and the girls decide to throw him a surprise birthday party. As the night progressed, you and Izuku got real drunk and couldn’t keep your hands off each other... in more ways than one.
word count: 2.4k
You spent all week preparing for this surprise party for Izuku. It was his birthday and you really wanted him to feel special and appreciated for being a great friend and loving boyfriend. You were pretty good at pretending that all the things you snuck home were just “things for the apartment” instead of decorations and all his favorite foods for the party. Bakugo being Izuku’s childhood friend couldn’t pass up on helping you and everyone from your graduating class of 1-A prep for the party, keeping everything hidden from Izuku.
“MIND YOUR DAMN BUSINESS DEKU!” He’d yell at him if the green haired pro hero asked one too many questions. Today was finally the day to set up the party. You just had to keep everything hidden for a little while longer. You woke Izuku up with kisses and a plate of his favorite breakfast. He’d always loved pancakes but for whatever reason, he loved your waffles. Izuku could eat them for dinner if you’d let him. He smiled and ate his food, gushing about how he’s finally 21.
“I can drink with you now, Y/N.” He said with a mouthful of waffles. You grinned and kissed him on the cheek as he ate. “So, what are we doing today?” He asked. Even though today was his birthday, the hero still had to work.
“Oh.. uhm.. well.” You struggle to tell Midoriya that you had “nothing planned” knowing that he’d be hurt by that.
“Maybe we could just go out to the bar and have a few drinks?” You lie, wincing at the upcoming disappointment in his voice. He nodded with a weak smile, trying not to seem too disappointed at the lazy plans. But he was grateful anyways and kind of excited to see the bar scene. After eating his birthday breakfast, he stood up from the bed and got ready for the day. While he was in the bathroom you text the mass group chat with the entire class in it named “Operation Deku Day!” Mina had already been messaging you all throughout the morning reminding everyone that the party starts at 9 pm; right when Izuku is expected to be home.
“So what kind of cake does he like? I’m at the bakery right now.” Todoroki texts followed by an image of the options of cake the menu had.
“Get him chocolate.” You text, giggling at the plan all coming together nicely. You wait for a response while looking at all the gifs and memes everyone’s sending sharing the same excitement for the party.
“Cool. I’ll have them decorate it and drop it off at your place, Y/N. Just let me know when Midoriya leaves.” Shoto texts back, you responding with an Ok and answering any questions about the party from the others.
“Your phone’s going off a lot today, Y/N. Who are you talking to?” Izuku asks, his hips adorning a towel as he just got out of the shower. You look his wet body up and down, almost forgetting to respond to the question before he gets too curious.
“OH! Uh, It’s just the girls. Yaoyorozu wished you a happy birthday.” You laugh nervously, clearly awful at keeping secrets. Izuku just smiles and tells you to tell her he said thank you and got dressed in his hero costume.
“Well, I’m off. I love you Y/N. I’ll see you later tonight.” Izuku says giving you a small peck on the lips as he leaves your shared apartment. You wave goodbye as he shuts the door and jumped up from your bed, texting the group chat
“THE EAGLE HAS LEFT THE NEST. OPERATION DEKU DAY IS AGO.”
Momo, Mina and Uraraka spend all day decorating the house and setting the ambiance for the party. Todoroki brought the cake and put it in the fridge and starting making a small ice sculpture in the shape of All Might for the spiked punch he made (He was known for making a good cocktail). Kyoka made a playlist for the party, she was the DJ afterall. She tweaked the stereo so the sound system would be JUMPIN and laughed maniacally as she knew she was gonna rock the fucking house down. Katsuki insisted on cooking since “You can’t cook half as good as he can.” Or at least that’s what Katsuki said. He handed a hot dish of buffalo chicken dip (my favorite) to Mineta, who insisted on helping with... idk something.
“It’s hot on the bottom, idiot. If you drop my dip I’m gonna drop my fucking fist down your throat.” Bakugo shouts, making Mineta nervous as he walks carefully with the dish. Sero and Yaoyorozu were putting the finishing touches on the decorations as you check the clock on your phone. Shit. It was 8:59. You see a text you received from Izuku 30 minutes ago saying he was on his way home and another from just now saying he’s coming upstairs. You squeal and start panicking. He was probably already on your floor.
“Everybody ready? Izuku’s home!” You yell over everyone’s excited chatter. Everyone replied in a harmonious yes and took their places. You run towards the door and adjust your strapless dress, turning off the lights. You stand behind the houseplant by the door and almost squeal in excitement as you hear the door click unlocked.
“Y/N?” You hear Izuku say nervously as he turned on the lights. He gasps as everyone jumps out from their hiding places and yell
“SURPISE!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY IZUKU!”
He smiles brightly and grabs you, giving you the biggest hug while lifting you off your feet.
“Wow, thanks everyone!” He says excitedly, looking around the room to see all his friends. He became a little emotional knowing that you all went through the trouble of planning a surprise birthday party for him. You wipe his tears and give him a big fat kiss, earning an excited spin from him.
“We love you Izuku. Now, let’s enjoy your party!” You said as you let him to the delicious spread of food to start Izuku off. Kyoko started the music and danced along to the beat to get everyone to join in on the fun. Mina pulled Uraraka towards the living to dance with her as she waved Asui over to join in. Shoto manned the punch bowl, serving everyone with a half smile hoping they like his punch. Midoriya walks over to grab a plate of food from Katsuki.
“Yo, Ka-Chan!” He yelled over the music. Bakugo smirks and gives the birthday boy his plate. They chat over the food and laugh together as they have a good time in each other’s company. Katsuki seemed to cease the usual teasing, just for this one special night. You giggle and run over to the dancefloor with your cup of punch in toe. You drink and dance at the same time, spilling a little bit of punch as it ran down your chin. Mina laughs and takes your hands dancing along to the beat with you. The night was young and the party was a success. You were just glad Midoriya seemed to be having a great time.
Drink after drink you feel yourself get extremely tipsy, stumbling around with a drunk Mina and Asui. Uraraka had passed out on the couch from all the drinking and dancing. Even Momo was drunk, creating a phone to drunkenly call in some pizza since there was no more of the food Katsuki made. It was 1 am and everyone was still partying like there was no tomorrow. Including Midoriya. You had never seen this shy boy act so boldy and confidently. It was kind of a turn on. He was in a chug contest with Bakugo, seeing who out of them both could drink the most drinks the fastest. Ida, Shoto, Kirishima and Kaminari crowded around the two chanting chug chug chug as they both drank themselves into a drunken stupor. Izuku finished first, erupting into a loud and boisterous burp. Bakugo grunts and raises Izuku’s arm in the air claiming him the victor. When the hell did Katsuki EVER admit to defeat?
“ *hic* IZUKU’S THE FUCKING CHAMPION! *hic* And he’s one of my best fucking friends! I- I love you bro.” Katsuki says, slurring his speech and stuttering over his words. Midoriya winks at you, who was watching the whole thing go down from across the room.
“L-Love you too, Kaaaachan.” Izuku slurred, stumbling over to you to give you a kiss. He wanted to celebrate his victory the right way; with a kiss from his girlfriend who was looking sexier than usual tonight. Midoriya approached you, smelling like beer and sweat as he pulled you close to him. Without warning he crashed his lips into yours, turning a sweet kiss into an intense and passionate make out session in front of the whole party. Something definitely took over in Midoriya. He was more aggressive with you than usual. You hear encouraging whoos and a jealous aww from Mineta who wished he was the one kissing you. Izuku waved him away as if he was shooing a fly and lifted you up, carrying you away from the party and into your bedroom. He shut the door with a slam, you squealing with excitement as he heatened the kiss. Izuku’s hands were all over you, groping your ass, squeezing your boobs and leaving sloppy kisses all over your neck. He was a beast, hungry for his well deserved prize.
“Do you know what you do to me, Y/N?” Izuku asked, pulling away from the sloppy kiss as he throws you on the bed. You can’t even answer as you stare at him dumbly, still shocked at your normally sweet and gentle boyfriend turn into a lust stricken beast. He hovers over you on the bed, drinking in your body in that tight little dress you wore. Izuku feels himself stiffen at the sight of you, pulling your panties down under your dress.
“’M gonna leave this dress on. You look so good right now, ya know that? Your tits are popping out of this little thing” Midoriya hisses, taking his calloused hand and rubbing tight circles on your already sensitive bud. You moan at his dirty words, intoxicated on his touch as you grab a pillow and cover your face with it. Izuku snatched the pillow away and threw it across the room, eager to hear your moans no matter who else was around to hear them.
“Let everyone know how good I’m making you feel.” He said, easing two fingers inside you wet walls. You moan like a pornstar, grabbing onto Midoriya’s arm for dear life as he fingered you with a steady pace. Izuku’s eyes were glued to your face, watching you make those faces he loved to see pull on your features as he pulled your breasts out of your dress suckling on your swollen nipple. You pant, gasping at the euphoric feeling as the pit of your stomach tightened, threatening to snap as you approach a fast climax. Izuku noticed you body language automatically able to tell you’re about to cum. He quickened his pace as he watched you arch your back as you came undone before him.
“Good girl.” Izuku coos as he takes his hand and sucked his sweet juices off his fingers. You flutter your eyes open as Izuku pulled his pants and boxers down in one swift movement, his impressive length springing out as you lick your lips at the sight. You wanted him in your mouth so you grab his dick and stroke it with a tight grip earning an eager moan from Midoriya as he grabbed your hair.
“N-No. As much as I want you to, I have to be inside you.” He stutters, pulling your dress up over your hips. He kissed you sloppily, slipping some tongue in as you moan into the kiss. He motioned for you to bend over and you do so with excitement, wiggling your ass to tease him as he smacked it with fervor.
“You ready for me?” Izuku asked tapping his dick against you as you nod and back yourself onto him, feeling his dick slide inside you with ease. You both moan at the feeling as Midoriya grabs your hips and thrusts harshly inside you, holding nothing back as he pulled your hair and smacked your ass. The muffled sounds of the music along with the sinful noises coating the walls of your room were all you could hear as you feel his hand reach forward to rub your clit as he brushed up against your g-spot repeatedly. You scream, trying to keep up with his swift and hard strokes as you throw your ass back on him, gripping the sheets for dear life. You’re sure everyone can hear your loud moans over all the music as you approach a second climax.
“I’m gonna fill that pretty pussy with my cum, baby. You want me to fill you up don’t you, you filthy whore?” Izuku said, earning a frantic yes from you as you whine for him. You’re shocked at his words but more so turned on by them as you clench around him, cumming for him a second time. Izuku hissed as he rode out your orgasm, chasing his own. Soon enough, he’s coating your insides with his hot seed, grunting and moaning as he ruts into you a few more times. You whine at the loss of his dick as he pulled out of you. Izuku watched as his thick sperm dripped out of you, satisfied with the job for now. He grabbed a towel and cleaned you off sloppily, still heavily intoxicated. You giggled and grabbed your underwear and slipped them back on to rejoin the party. Izuku and you were both a visual mess. It looked as if you both just had sex, your hair was an absolute wreck, your dress was disheveled and you were missing a shoe. Izuku was just as bad, sweat glistening on his forehead and he had this big cheesy grin plastered on his face. You hoped you were both inconspicuous enough for you both to just rejoin the party as if nothing happened in your bedroom. But Mina took one look at you two and erupted into laughter.
“You two just had sex didn’t you?!”

Fria's Day Out- RWBY drabble
Ruby spent all of volume 6 trekking across Mistral and nearly getting killed due to the stupid Relic of Knowledge, and now General Ironwood's trying to give it back to her? When there's a perfectly good Vault there?
Absolutely not.
(AKA this was not your best plan ever, Jimmy)
Ao3 link
"You're giving the lamp back to us?" Ruby asked, brows furrowing in confusion as James held out the relic. He thought it was a good idea, at least until the vault could be safely opened.
"Who better to safeguard it than the people who already protected it?"
Ruby reached out, hand resting on the relic, before she shoved it hard against his chest, looking aghast as she darted back like it had burned her.
"Are you crazy? That thing's a Grimm magnet, we nearly died, like-" she paused to count on her fingers, "three times?" She glanced at her teenage friends for clarification. "Three, was it three?"
"Manticores on the train, Apathy at the farms, Leviathan at Argus." Weiss rattled off, ignoring Winter's horrified gasp.
"And you want us to keep carrying it? We came here to throw it in the Vault in the first place!" Ruby stared at him like he was an idiot, and right now he was able to somewhat understand her reasoning.
Still, he pulled up some bluster. "Well, Fria's bedbound, so the Vault can't be opened right now. She's in no state for it."
"I mean- this is Atlas, right? Do you have hoverbeds? Wheels? You guys have invented the wheel, right? Just push her along, it can't be that dangerous."
"Well-" James started before Winter cut in.
"Actually, sir, it might be good for her to get out and about." Winter noted, face completely impassive as he beheld her treachery.
"She'd be remaining in the military base as well, Mr Ironwood!" Penny chirped cheerfully, oblivious to how he was beset on all sides by treason. "And we could set up a guard!"
"See?" Ruby squeaked determinedly. "I vote we throw that lamp from heck into the Vault and never look back!"
"We can't just wheel Fria to the vault," James rolled his eyes. "That's preposterous."
James pushed Fria's bed along, one of the wheels clicking on every rotation like a shopping trolley. "This is undignified."
"Oh, I'm having a great time, pet," Fria chuckled, a Barstucks takeaway cup held in her shaking hand. The concoction inside was some awful pink monstrosity that looked incredibly malevolent. "You ignore him, Winter, my son's just taking himself too seriously again."
"Mom, please." James groaned as Winter laughed, no restriction on the bell-like sound. Fria really brought down her guard.
"I can't believe you've got a mom, Mr Ironwood." Ruby skipped alongside them, holding the relic like it was about to jump up and bite her. James didn't know which of his scientists gave her the tongs but he was going to have a word with his R&D about loaning equipment for frivolous purposes. "I always thought you were raised by a pack of soldiers."
"You should have seen him at your age, he was a hellion," Fria gossiped with her, Winter's eyes sparkling as she hid her smile with a sip of coffee. "Running around Mantle and constantly getting into trouble, I think some of your old graffiti is still down there."
"Graffiti?" Ruby's eyes lit up with mischief. "But he's so serious!"
"I'm standing right here."
"Is that what he does now, walks around all serious?" Fria cackled. "Dear me, James, you haven't gotten boring, have you?"
"I'm afraid he has," Winter jumped in before he could defend himself, her tone dour and her twinkling eyes anything but. "It's quite a shame, from your stories he sounds like quite a rabble rouser."
"Oh he was!" Fria snorted gracelessly. "I could tell you stories- have I told you stories? I can't quite remember-" she frowned, James's gut twisting as the damnable memory loss wiped some of her spark.
"You have, Fria," Winter reached down and took Fria's hand, black gloves gentle as she clasped wizened fingers. "But I'd be happy to hear them again, if you like."
"Aren't you good?" Fria smiled again. "And you, Ruby, I swear, you Huntresses get younger every year."
"Oh, well, I'm just a prodigy," Ruby preened like a peacock under the praise. "I got into Beacon two years early."
"Really? My, that's impressive. Did the old man let you in himself?"
"Ozpin?" Guilt flashed over Ruby's face. James decided she should never play poker. "Uh- yeah, um, he did. It was cool."
"How is that old coot anyway? Still talking in riddles?" Fria asked as Ruby grew more and more uncomfortable, James keeping half an ear on the conversation as they reached the lift down to the Vault. He wheeled Fria onto the platform, shivering slightly at the chill in the air. The cold always gnawed at him even with extra coats on.
Ruby's babble broke off as the platform under their feet moved, bringing them down the passage before it opened into the cavern in the heart of Atlas, Ruby's eyes going wide with childlike wonder. "Wow…"
James felt a bit of pride at that. Atlas's Vault was very nice indeed. The geometric blocks floated in the air around them, icy blue flames flickering in torches as they descended towards the platform, a cavernous drop awaiting below. "Impressive, isn't it?"
"Yeah!" Ruby looked around, awestruck. "I never saw the one in Haven, Yang did- and she doesn't like talking about it aside from saying it was weird and there was a tree and a desert, but this is amazing! How are those blocks floating? Why is the fire blue?"
James opened his mouth to answer before realising he didn't have one, jaw clicking shut as he was left to shrug. "Dust?"
"Oh, not magic?" Ruby pouted for a moment before something shiny caught her attention. "That door is huge! What's it like inside, Yang said the Haven one led to a desert, how cool is that?"
"I don't know. I've never seen inside." He couldn't help be curious as well. "The Atlas vault hasn't been opened since Ozpin lifted the city into the sky, in a past life. It was before my time."
"I remember, I think." Fria piped up. "I was only a girl, but a floating city is rather spectacular."
"I can imagine." Winter mused. "Fria, would you like me to hold your Very Berry Hibiscus Coconut Milk Refresher with Extra Whip?" She said it with a straight face, because she was a stronger person than James could ever hope to be.
"Oh, yes, thank you. It's very nice," Fria handed it over, a quaver in her hands.
James raised a brow. "You need to hold her coffee?"
"Well, you'll have to help her up to the Vault, sir." Winter stated like it was obvious.
"Huh?"
"James, pet, did you think you were going to roll me up the stairs?" Fria laughed, tiredness beginning to steal across her eyes. They didn't have much time left before the excitement of the day turned to fatigue.
"What stairs, there's no stairs- oh my gosh there's stairs now!" Ruby squeaked excitedly as the staircase formed, practically bouncing in place. James sincerely hoped the relic clasped in her tongs didn't go flying. It would be such a hassle to get it back if she dropped it off the edge.
James hesitated. "Mom, are you sure?"
"I can't walk well, but if I'm going to open a Vault for the first time, I'd like to get up there myself." Fria stated with that rock-solid determination he'd seen a million times, dark blue eyes steady and firm, and that was that.
"Alright." He carefully, carefully helped her out of the hospital bed, struck by how small and frail she was now. He supported her with an arm under her shoulders, and wondered if she'd let him get away with carrying her up.
Fria's eyes glowed brilliant blue, azure flames springing to life for a moment as she formed a walking stick from thin air, gnarled wood and ice crystals melding together to perfectly fit her hand and height.
Seeing her perform magic never got old.
Fria rested some of her weight on the stick, most of her weight on James, her legs shaking as she set her jaw and started hobbling towards the Vault with him.
"Mom, are you sure?" He didn't want her to hurt herself.
"James, I'm feeble, not dead." She informed him briskly.
"Uh- if you want I can scatter you guys up?" Ruby offered, having gingerly shifted the relic into her actual hand, holding it at arm's length. "It's fun, like being in a tornado. And it'll be quicker?"
"I'm not sure about that-" James started, remembering the tournament footage of Ruby's semblance before Fria nodded eagerly.
"Well that sounds exciting, scatter away, dearie!"
"Mom, please-!" James suddenly found himself caught up in a swirl of red, shooting forward like a bullet from a gun and broken apart into pieces (he felt like it should have hurt but it didn't), before suddenly he was on his feet again, too fast for him to comprehend as rose petals floated in the air around him and Ruby collapsed to her knees.
"Wow, you are heavy, Mr Ironwood, what are you made of, metal?" She leaned against the golden metal of the Vault door. "Whoo- okay, I'm never picking you up again, no offence."
He dearly wanted to tell her the answer to her question was 'yes' and refrained, instead checking on Fria. "Mom, are you alright?"
She laughed, her hair a mess and her eyes bright. "That was fun!"
He sighed in relief. "I really think we should get this done sooner rather than later. I'm glad you're okay." She was in a very good state today, they'd waited for that, but he didn't know how long it would last. How long until she forgot where she was and who she was and who he was.
Fria nodded, leaning most of her weight against his side as her eyes blazed with fire, her hand shaking as she touched it to the Vault. The sharp lines of the overlapping rectangles began to glow pale white, the light racing up to the top of the door. The golden facets of the door began to drop, and a wave of roaring heat washed out over the three of them, bringing with it the smell of sulphur and brimstone.
Ruby coughed and covered her face, her nose already turning red. “For a Vault of Creation, I was expecting something- I dunno, more cheerful?”
Cheerful was not how he would describe the cavern within, thick streams of magma dripping from the walls and pooling around a slender path of rock that led to a pedestal, heatwaves shimmering in the very air. It was like the inside of a volcano, maybe it was one, and there above the pedestal, the relic of creation floated, a pearlescent white gem that had been sculpted into the handle of a paintbrush, golden filigree elaborately ensconcing the jewel as snow white threads formed the brush.
“Ruby, place the lamp in there and we’ll close it up.” He ordered, sweat forming on his brow.
“Right!” She ran in, careful to avoid the edges where molten rock bubbled hungrily, setting the lamp down in front of the pedestal and scattering out, her petals catching fire from the sheer heat in the air. James waited for her to pass them by, scooping up Fria as he walked down the stairs, eager to get away from the heat at his back.
“Are you okay?” He asked as he carried his mother back to the hospital bed, holding off on any feelings of joy at a task completed. Until the Vault door closed and Fria was back in the safety of her ward, there was still danger.
“Yes, James, I’m fine,” she smiled weakly at him, her eyes returned to the dark blue that was so similar to his own. She looked so drained, even that small bit of magic sapping her strength. “I’m just tired. Not as young as I used to be… the magic takes more of a toll now…”
“Well, rest up, alright?” He gently placed her down, tucking the quilt around her. “You did good, mom.”
“I did my job.” She stated, whispers threading through her voice and undercutting her surety. Because she was an Ironwood, much like himself, and they did their jobs no matter the cost on themselves. “But yes… I think I’ll rest a bit... Winter, will you keep my drink cool for me?”
“Of course.” Winter studied him. “Sir, shall I stay here until the Vault’s closed again?”
“No. I’ll guard it. You take my mother back to her room so she can rest.” He smiled at Winter, before he gave Fria a gentle hug, always careful with his right side. He didn’t think he’d see her again. The transfer of power had to be kept secure. This was already too much of a risk. “Thanks, mom.”
“I had fun,” Fria smiled as she nodded off, a large white Beowulf with cyan eyes forming from a glyph, grasping the hospital bed in its claws as Winter guided it to walk with her, escorting Fria to the lift out.
James watched her go, ready to wait for the vault door to close. He could still feel the heat from here. “Miss Rose, are you alright?”
“I’m good, in the red but good,” she sat on the ground, staring up at the Vault. “I know that I knew it was a paintbrush, but I was really expecting a spear, or a staff, yunno, something more impressive?”
“You don’t think painting’s impressive?” He chuckled slightly, choosing to return to somewhat of a good mood.
“That feels like a trap question.” Ruby eyed him suspiciously, her hands and belt looking empty without the relic she’d been guarding on the trip here.
“Fria paints.”
“Definitely a trap question.” She smiled a bit, and it reminded him of Summer. She really did look so much like her mother. “Your mom is cool.”
“I know she is.” He hoped she slept well, and could remember today. If she had happy memories, he’d rather she was lost in them, rather than anything else. “At least the relic’s safe now.”
“Yeah. It would’ve been really stupid to just carry it around in the open up here, I mean, it draws Grimm. Yeesh.” She looked up at the open Vault. “Well, at least now it’s locked away and no one can get to it. Ugh, could you imagine if I took you up on your offer?”
“... I'd rather not." He hoped he lived that particular idea down soon. It really wasn't his best.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A quick drabble about what would have happened if Ruby remembered The Entire Point of Volume 6. Toss Jinn into the Vault already, she'll live with it.
So we’ve got Regina’s group, but what about Mors’? Who is his Advisor/Hand (Weskham)? His Sword (Cor)? (Hadrian is his Shield (Clarus) and Vita his Consort/Heart (Titus)) I don’t think Ardyn, Sylva, and Cid would have counterparts, given that they aren’t really Regina’s subordinates/retainers? But you COULD come up with counterparts I suppose - the Elder/Scholar, the Ally, the Inventor/Creator. And what are the Flame types of Mors and Co (I hc Hadrian and the Amicitia’s are generally Storms)?
*deep breath*
darn it a-world-in-grey you made me create a REALLY INTERESTING OC FOR THIS. BECAUSE I HADN’T THOUGHT ABOUT WHO HIS HAND AND SWORD WERE BEFORE NOW BUT NOW I HAVE AND NHGFDFGHGFD-
ALRIGHT BUCKLE UP IMMA RAMBLE.
You’re right, Mors never had an Ardyn, Sylva, or Cid counterpart, though he was on fairly good terms with the Oracle of his time. So, starting with the easy ones/Flame types-
Mors - Sky. Not ... not a very nice Sky mind you, but I HC that he WAS a Sky, a dedicated and clever Sky that inspired loyalty despite his “necessary cruelties”. Sorta like Nono and Luce in KHR, but like- more competent and scary. Still not a good person, and nowhere near as powerful as Regina magic-wise, but a Sky nonetheless.
Hadrian Amicitia - Storm. Inverted, probably, and you’re right I think most Amicitias are generally Storms or a Storm-mix. Hadrian is only a year older than Mors so they grew up together, and of all of them Hadrian is arguably the most instinctively loyal, has been basking in Mors magic the longest.
Vita - Rain. Very gentle Classic Rain and not to sound like a stereotypical sap but this woman was like- 80% of Mors kindness and moral restraint from the day they met to the day she died. If Vita had been around when Cor “Murder Child” Leonis got himself recruited into the Crownsguard, she would have convinced Mors to either kick him right back out or put the boy on the Reserve forces until he was of proper age, prodigy or no prodigy (or possibly, as a last resort if Mors was being stubborn, claimed Cor as a bodyguard herself, because she usually doesn’t leave the Citadel and would have had the chance to Properly Mother This Boy under the guise of taking care of her fearless bodyguard). They were an arranged marriage and knew that fact since they Mors was 18 and Vita was 12, but came to love each other anyway as they grew up and then later were married. Basically Mors only real soft spot was perfectly Vita shaped and after she was gone everyone suffered.
Ventus Scientia - Not Ignis’s grandad but rather his granduncle. Very, very much a Mist. Was born the same year Mors was so he was also raised alongside Mors from a young age. All the Scientia genius honed into a very logical, pragmatic edge without anywhere near the mothering and natural kindness Ignis shows. Should have been the one to call Mors on his more outrageous behavior, but instead just guided Mors into being sneaky about it behaviors instead (”A King serves the greater good of his kingdom” is not a phrase Mors came up with, that was from Ventus, trying to channel Mors more manipulative tendencies into something productive and beneficial).
And now my official new favorite of this impromptu cast-
Bellica Argentum - Inverted Lightning like WHOO. Plus a very, very interesting backstory. Like- Officially, Bellica was hired as Mors secretary after the last one turned out to be an assassin from Niflheim. Officially, she was just an ordinary, pretty Lucian citizen who worked her way through college and landed a lucky break by getting an interview to be Mors new secretary. Was generally regarded by outside viewers as Mors personal mistress/toy for when he was on the road and away from his wife Vita, since she was occasionally seen leaving Mors rooms at various late hours of the night.
Everything official is a LIE. Mors never had a Sword like Cor, Mors had a silver dagger and he won her in one of the craziest ways imaginable. Lemme tell you what UNOFFICIALLY happened:
-Unofficially, Bellica Argentum was originally neither Bellica, nor Argentum, but rather Imperial Agent 516 of Besithia stock. Unofficially when she was young and pretty and an up and coming agent, they gave her a disguise and a new, non-Argentum codename and sent her off to try to assassinate Crown Prince Mors, which she decided to accomplish by becoming his secretary first. Unofficially she served under him for just under a year before he finally started to treat her like something other than mobile, paper-signing furniture and instead began to watch her with half-lidded, curious, greedy eyes. Unofficially, she took that chance and rolled with it, letting herself be seduced by Prince Mors, lured into his bedchamber, and then trying to stab him.
-This didn’t work. Because he had known for months that she was actually a Nif agent and had gotten tired of waiting for her to try something, so instead he had BAITED her into trying something.
-If it hadn’t been for Hadrian hiding in the walk-in closet and Ventus running in with a hi-elixir, she would have succeeded anyway.
-Pinned in place by a furious Hadrian, she fully expects to be brutally killed. Or interrogated and then brutally killed. She is an assassin after the Crown Prince after all, and she has failed.
-Instead, Mors sits up, shifts clear of the pool of (his) blood, crouches down in front of her with glittering silver eyes that were just as fascinated and greedy as they’d been when he’d been “seducing her”, and SMILES.
-“You’re amazing,” he tells her, “truly amazing. I knew exactly what you were and were going to try and you still almost killed me.” Hadrian growls angrily at the reminder and Mors waves his protest away. The woman who will someday be known as Bellica Argentum feels ... something coil around her soul. Poking and prodding and CALLING in a way that makes her shudder (the trainers had never trained her for this. They’d never said LC magic could weave through her very being like this).
-Mors tilts his head, suddenly very, very inhuman, his silver eyes gleaming, his torso still covered in drying blood from where she’d stabbed him about five times, “What would it take,” he murmurs, deep and dark and coaxing, “for you to be mine for real?” He leans in, magic curling more tightly around her heart and soul and throat as he purrs, “What could I give you, to make you loyal to me and me alone. Not to Niflheim, not to Lucis, but to me?”
-It’s not a question she should answer. It’s not one that’s supposed to have an answer at all. She’s supposed to be LOYAL to Niflheim, she’s been raised to be an agent since almost before she could remember. But- but she does remember. And there is something she WANTS more than anything else. Something that Mors magic teases out of her soul and past her clenched teeth, something she spits in his face because she is sure he will mock her for it before he kills her.
-“Family,” she spits, “Children of my own, to raise as civilians. Children who will never have to know my scars, who will grow up happy and free rather than stolen away to be tools in a never-ending war. A husband who will care for them and not ask questions of me, an old age I can spend as a grandmother, doting on the little ones that come after.”
-And Mors smiles, sharp and satisfied, “I can do that,” he purrs, runs his knuckles down the side of her cheek and tucks some of her tousled hair behind one ear, “I can give you that. I will give you a husband who will ask no questions, I will bury your past so that it cannot touch your children, I will let you retire to be a grandmother who dotes on her little ones until you are ancient and white-haired and death takes you in your sleep. I will give you a future,” he whispers, deep and silky, magic tugging and curling around her possessively as his fingers drift down to brush the hollow of her throat, “and I will ensure that no man or woman, Lucian or Niflheim, ever thinks for a moment that your children are anything more than wealthy, upstanding citizens of Insomnia, born of a wealthy and upstanding Insomnian couple.”
-“All you have to do, little dagger. Is be mine. My assassin, my liar, my silver knife in the shadows until the age of your retirement comes and I let you go to your reward. How old are you- twenty, right? Give me your complete loyalty, and the next fifteen years of your life, and I will give you everything you desire.”
-It’s a daemon’s deal. But she WANTS and she knows the alternative is a brutal death. She says yes, feels something inside her JERK into place, feels heavy magic curl and settle next to her heart like a claim and a warning all in one. Mors laughs and Ventus and Hadrian both sigh.
-Mors names her Bellica Argentum, and she spends the next fifteen years of her life as his secretary and his best, most prized, and unendingly loyal assassin. The next fifteen years of her life are stained in blood at Mors’ command, with Mors’ magic a second heartbeat and promise and warning all at once in her chest that drives her on-on-on. Twelve years in and Mors introduces her to a wealthy, non-noble citizen of Insomnia, a kind, ordinary man with some business ties to the Citadel (a tailor perhaps, or the merchant who supplies the tailors with their silks). An ordinary, gentle man that Bellica has no trouble convincing to marry her.
-Thirty-five years old, fifteen years after that night to the day, and Mors stops asking her to take on assassination missions, treats her only as the favored secretary her cover story says she is, pays her as richly as ever and congratulates her on her first pregnancy with genuine warmth in his silver-edged eyes. Her children grow up civilian and successful, happy and free and oblivious to their mother’s past, or the fate that would have awaited them in Niflheim (shuffled off into one military position or another for the Glory of the Empire, trained as weapons and sacrificed as broken tools).
-She is old and silvering when her eldest son and his wife come to her and shyly introduce their child, an adopted little one they carefully do not say was given to them by one Cor Leonis because their family are trusted as the descendants of Mors favored secretary (she already knows, she may be retired but she still has contacts, and they tell her everything). She is old, but her sight is still keen, and she sees the blond hair and pale blue eyes, the little freckles as he grows and his unnaturally keen hand-eye coordination, his obsessive attention to detail that manifests in his love of photography.
-Besithia stock, she knows. She was just like that herself at his age.
-She supports and loves him until the day she passes on in her sleep, regrets only that her eldest son and his wife are so busy all the time that Prompto will surely be lonely without her there and with her other children living in Lestallum and Accordo, fulfilling their dreams but distanced from their eldest sibling who was content to take over his father’s business. But ... that will be alright. She has seen the way Prompto is exercising and driving himself to get fit now, heard him shyly ask her what the royal family was like, and how to befriend a Prince.
-He is Besithia stock. But he is also Argentum. And like her, the first Argentum, he will find his Lucis Caelum prince, and he will give everything to that prince in return for his heart’s greatest desire.
-Not a bad way for the story to end, in the mind of an assassin who wanted only to be a mother and grandmother.
Chapter 7
“How’s your arm?”
The casual yet carefully chosen question caught you off guard for a few moments. After his ominous statement earlier followed by locking the door, you figured he would get straight to business. You knew, of course, that this question was going to lead into something else later on. It always did. He wouldn’t actually be concerned for your well-being, not after everything that just occurred prior hours. Would he? You stared at him for a few seconds, processing what he just asked, before clearing your throat awkwardly. You flickered your gaze to the side, suddenly taking interest in the eggshell colored walls.
“It’s fine. Hobi told me that I sprained my elbow along with my cut during the fall,” you explained, shuffling in your spot. “He was on me about making sure I rest my arm.”
Oh, he was on you alright, a cynical voice commented snidely.
You shoved that thought to the back of your mind, hoping Jin didn’t notice you. The millionaire paused for a few moments, taking in this information, and then gestured to one of the nearby cushioned chairs.
“Why don’t you sit down and rest then?” he suggested, then made his way over to one of the bottles of champagne sitting in an iced bucket. He popped off the cord with ease and grabbed a red tinted glass sitting next to the bucket. You listened to his proposal and sat down on the plush chair, setting your bandaged arm on the armrest. A slight tinge of pain shot up your arm, causing a groan to escape your throat, but you just bore the pain and continued on. Jin held up an empty glass as an offer. “Would you like a glass?”
You nodded fervently. “After what happened today, definitely.”
Jin poured the white, bubbly liquid into the glass and handed it to you, to which you took a long sip and basked in the way it warmed up your insides. You momentarily closed your eyes and released a drawn out exhale, feeling a heavy weight slowly lift off your shoulders. Ah, that hit the spot.
You reopened your eyes, this time focused on Jin. As you readjusted your posture, reminding yourself not to put too much weight on your injured arm, you interrogated, “So what do you need to desperately talk to me about? You’ve been ignoring me all day. What changed?”
Jin parted his round lips for a moment to answer before pressing them together into a thin line. He then took a seat across from you and crossed his long legs, his own glass in hand. He contemplated his choices on how to word what he wanted to say before sighing tiredly. “I believe you deserve an apology,” he finally revealed before taking a much needed drink.
Your lips formed a firm scowl. You clinked our fingers against your glass for a few seconds, waiting for him to continue, but was met with only strained silence. Was he actually serious? You finally spoke up, “You believe I deserve one?” you scoffed humorlessly, feeling anger shoot down your veins like hot fire. “Jin, you accused me of being a traitor, you twat!”
Jin raised his hands in surrender, guilt taking over his features. “I know. I know. What I did was irresponsible and uncalled for-“
“I’ll say!”
“-And I’ve come to my senses long ago. By no means do I wish to give myself any excuses for my behavior, but I wish for you to understand that I was angry, confused, and wishing to blame anything for why the Dragon wasn’t in the caves... even you.” He took another drink of champagne and then placed it on the table next to him. He folded his hands together tightly, thumbs rubbing over each other anxiously. “I was also scared, scared that the Japanese had already obtained it before us, and that the last bits of my country’s identity were forever gone.”
“I can understand that, but that doesn’t give you the right to lash out at me. Do you have any idea how scared I was? I thought you were going to kill me!” You shook your head in disbelief as a sigh escaped your lips. “Out of everyone on this team, I thought I could trust you the most. After all, you trusted me enough to bring me into this. And then when you accused me, all that trust was gone. I felt like I had no one, no one to turn to. I felt abandoned.” You then laughed almost bitterly. “Good thing the others had my back.”
Jin’s hand clasped over his mouth as he listened to you spilling out your feelings. You saw how he thought over what you said. The millionaire was never not thinking, it seemed. “I felt similar. I felt our trust meant nothing in that moment. However, there was no reason for me to distrust you. My paranoia got the better of me in that moment.”
The frown never left your face as you argued, “If you realized that, then why didn’t you bloody apologize earlier instead of ignoring me the rest of the day?”
“I... I didn’t feel like it was the proper time to apologize, not when we were distracted with everything going on at once,” he answered, disregarding your bitter snort as he continued, “I know ignoring you was incredibly rude of me, but I couldn’t just pretend that everything was fine when it obviously wasn’t.” He rubbed the back of his neck as he continued, “I apologize fully for what I’ve done against you and for letting my paranoia getting the better of me.”
Your eyebrows furrowed when a question popped in your mind out of the blue. “I know we have every reason to be constantly looking over our shoulders, now that the Japanese are after us, but why are you so paranoid of them finding us? You were like that back in the hotel in Darjeeling when that spy tried to mug me,” you questioned, resting your chin on the palm of your hand, waiting for him to answer.
“I...” His voice trailed off with a slight groan. He pinched the bridge of his nose before throwing his hand in the air exasperatedly, slumping back into his chair. “It’s personal. Let’s just say I’ve had a lot of run-ins with the government. Every encounter I could’ve been executed. I wouldn’t be here, if I weren’t a bit paranoid.”
You arched an eyebrow perplexedly. Hundreds of different thoughts sprung up into your mind at his mysterious answer. “Please don’t tell me that you’re secretly a rebellion leader,” you almost pleaded. That would’ve been the cherry on top, wouldn’t it be?
He chuckled, and you relaxed when seeing that. That was the first time he actually laughed ever since the incident in the caves. “No, no, nothing like that. I wouldn’t be a good rebellion leader anyways.”
“A drug lord, perhaps?”
“Oh, good Lord, no! I can barely handle smoking cigars let alone actually dealing drugs.”
“How about a smuggler then? I hear the Americans are in need of liquor nowadays.”
He scoffed, waving his hand in the air as if dismissing that idea. “I have no idea how the Prohibition is supposed to help. But all the same, no, I’m not a smuggler. I’m just a humble businessman.”
Your arched eyebrow quirked even higher. “A businessman who has had multiple run-ins with the government, it seems,” you remarked, then remembering what Namjoon revealed to you hours prior, added, “and knows self-defense also.”
He smiled fondly. “Ah, did Namjoon tell you that? Then he must’ve also told you that business is rather cutthroat.” He lifted his glass to his lips before taking a sip.
You nodded slowly, still suspicious of his mysterious aura. “Yes, he did. Doesn’t mean I believe it for a bloody second,” you said bluntly. You’ve learned to call people’s bull over the years. That was made you into the talented journalist you were today.
“You’re going to have to believe it, darling, because that’s the story I’m sticking with. Now then, we’ve gotten a little off track. I was trying to make reparations for my disrespectful behavior before you began interrogating me.” He chuckled mirthfully, a playful glimmer in his eyes. “You definitely are a reporter through and through.”
You took a drink, enjoying the taste and bubbles fill your mouth before swallowing. “I have to be thorough. Nobody likes an article with little to no answers, me included,” you replied with a shrug of your shoulders.
“Good thing I’m good at keeping my secrets,” Jin asserted, leaning forward and resting his arms on his thighs. “Is there nothing I can do to help rebuild our trust?”
You pondered the question for a few moments. At first, you wished for things to grow naturally, but a devious thought emerged in your mind. You tried your hardest to hide the evil smirk from crawling its way onto your face. “Actually, I do have an idea,” you admitted, the playful tone sneaking into your voice.
Jin didn’t seem to notice, thankfully. Instead, he appeared to be desperate to mend the broken bond between the two of you. “Really?” His eyebrows shot up in slight shock. “Please, tell me, and I’ll gladly do it.”
Oh ho, this was going to be perfect. “Stand up.”
“Done- wait, what?”
You rested your unhurt hand against your hip as you stood up from you seat. “You heard me.”
Although he was obviously confused by your command, Jin reluctantly got up only for you to take a few steps toward him. Little space was in between the two of you. One more step and you would be flush against his body. You smelled the faint scent of his cologne waft off him. His eyes widened slightly. “Ah, y/n, if I may ask, what do you have in mind?”
You remained stoic in hopes that you wouldn’t give away what you were about to do. “Just stand there,” you ordered, your voice a lot more commanding than you expected.
He then quirked an eyebrow almost amusedly. “Dear me, I never thought of you to be-”
You didn’t give anytime to finish as your uninjured hand came flying across his cheek with a loud smack. Ah, it was so satisfying to hear the sound of your hand cracking against his face. You almost wanted to turn back the clock and do it again.
Jin cried out loudly as he stumbled back a few paces, almost crashing against the table. The glasses and champagne bottle jingled as the table shook precariously. His hand flew to touch the now red skin gently, flinching at the stinging pain, as his other hand supported him on the table. He jerked to stare at you with round eyes, as if he couldn’t believe you actually slapped him. He stood there in stunned silence, groaning in pain. “I suppose I deserved that,” he admitted, shutting one of his eyes.
A grin broke through your stoic expression. “Oh, you have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do,” you commented, a short laugh escaping your mouth.
“Quite a while I’d imagine,” he responded, then looked at you with worried eyes. “It isn’t going to leave a bruise, is it? That’d be bad for my handsome face.”
You rolled your eyes, annoyed at how he was thinking about his looks at a time like this. “You’ll be fine,” you groaned.
The millionaire pouted with pursed lips like a child would and mumbled to himself about how he hoped the red mark faded away soon. “So, are we good now?” he asked, looking at you with hope.
You shrugged your shoulders. Of course, you knew that a slap across his face wouldn’t immediately fix the broken bond like magic, although you wished it did. However, you knew that the slap meant the beginning of your mending relationship. “It’s a start, that’s for sure.”
Jin rubbed his assaulted cheek tenderly. “I’ll take that over you being angry at me any day,” he confessed, then groaned. “For being injured, you have quite a swing.”
You made your way to the door and opened it after unlocking it, gesturing for him to take his leave. “Thank you, I was pitcher for my school’s girl’s cricket team,” you mentioned, a cheeky smile curling the corners of your lips. “I was worried that I was slacking over the years.”
The millionaire walked over to you, hand finally falling at his side to reveal his pink cheek. “Well, worry no more, you’re not slacking,” he complimented.
You laughed softly before giving him a reassuring pat on the shoulder. “Thank you for letting me take my anger out on you,” you said innocently. “You should get some rest now after today.” Judging by the way his shoulders sagged slightly as if weights attached themselves to him, you knew he needed to rest.
Jin nodded in agreement after taking a step out your door, standing in the living room of the suite. “You should, too, we’re having a meeting in the morning on what our next step should be,” he informed you. He took a step to begin walking away but paused and turned back to you, a devious smirk pulling at his lips. “You know, since I’m done talking to you, I should let Taehyung know that you’re free to finish his business with.”
Your eyes widened to the size of saucers as your lips parted in horror, your stomach suddenly lurching to your throat. “You better not, you little devil!” Taehyung is the last thing you need to deal with, especially after your “checkup” with Hoseok.
Jin ignored your desperate pleas and lifted his head towards where the other boys’ rooms were. “Oh, Taehyung!” he called innocently, his wicked smirked growing into a grin. “Y/n is free to talk to!”
“You bloody wanker!” you hissed venomously before slamming the door shut and locking it.
You pressed your back against the hardwood, hearing Jin’s faint laughter through as it faded in the distance. Your hand flew to your chest, feeling the thrumming of your rapid heartbeat under your fingers. One of the drawbacks of rebuilding your relationship with Jin was the fact that he could tease you whenever he wanted once more. Great, now you were back to seven men relentlessly teasing you, two of which were taking the teasing to a whole new level.
You figured you should do a little work before going to bed, if only to distract you from wandering thoughts about your teammates. Pulling yourself from the door, you took off your camera from around your neck, feeling somewhat odd since you’ve grown used to the familiar weight. You needed to develop the film, since you guessed that Namjoon and Jin would want to take a look at the pictures in the morning. As a reporter, you left the developing to your coworkers who were trained for this type of work, but the didn’t mean that you were unaware of how to do yourself.
You went to your luggage and skimmed through your supplies, finding it difficult to grab the necessities with only one arm. God, how were you supposed to manage this for four weeks? You took out all the equipment needed for the developing process, which included: a safelight, a black and white developer, a changing bag, a developing tank and reels, a digital thermometer, a timer, scissors, beakers and containers, bottles, and film clips. Yes, it was quite excessive, but the process demanded it.
It took you quite a while for you to haul all of your supplies with one arm into the bathroom. Already you were wishing for your arm to miraculously heal. After nearly half an hour of carrying equipment to the water closet, you set everything up in the available space given to you and took out the film canister from the camera.
You sighed as you stared at it. Who knew how many hours of sleep you were getting tonight? You set the canister down and immediately began to work into the night.
—————————————
Your eyes groggily peeled themselves open when the first sliver of sunlight hit them. You tiredly groaned and pulled yourself up, sitting on the bed for a few moments to get rid of the heavy feeling of exhaustion. You took this moment to realize that you were still in your clothes from yesterday. Ugh, what time did you go to bed? You felt like you didn’t get a wink of sleep at all.
You rubbed a hand over your eyes, getting rid of the gunky sand in the corners. There was no point in trying to go back to sleep. You figured that if you got yourself clean and pumped yourself with at least eight cups of tea, you’d be fine.
You stretched yourself, excluding your injured arm, and felt the various pops and cracks across your body. You let out a little groan before finally climbing out of bed, your feet hitting the soft, red carpet. You needed a shower, especially after rolling around in the forest for a few hours.
You entered the water closet once more, finding all of the equipment still inside, leaving no room for a shower. You groaned in agony and lightly slammed your head against the doorway. You really didn’t want to clean out the equipment, not after the long, tedious process it took just to haul it all here. You could always just ask one of the boys if you could just use their shower instead. Realizing that was, indeed, a horrible idea, you reluctantly carried out the equipment from the water closet.
After another half an hour, you finally got the supplies from the water closet and took that shower you desperately needed. It felt like you entered heaven right then and there, feeling the warm water on your grimy skin. You could take another nap in there if you wanted. However, you continued to wash yourself and got out, wishing you could sit under the water for an hour or two.
When you finished drying yourself off, you put on a simple pair of trousers and a light shirt and stepped outside your room, expecting to see everyone already out in the living room. However, you were surprised to find no one except yourself outside. You craned your head around, looking for anyone else, but found no awake soul. Bloody hell, what time was it? The sun was out, right? So people should be waking up by now.
You finally found the clock and read the time. Five o’clock in the morning. Shit, no wonder no one was here, they were no doubt still sleeping. You groaned exasperatedly and ran a hand down your face, pulling down your skin. You probably only got three hours of sleep, if that. Bloody perfect.
You needed a cup of tea right now. You went into the kitchen and managed to find the kettle. Placing it on the stove after filling it water, you turn on the heat and rummaged through the cabinets looking for teabags. You pulled out a box and read the label. Chamomile with lavender? You heard that this was supposed to have relaxing effects, although you never drank it before. However, relaxation sounded like exactly what you needed.
Hearing the kettle’s high pitched whistle, you poured the kettle into a teapot you found and placed the teabag in the boiling water. You got together a tea tray with all the necessities and placed the teapot on it before carrying it back to the living room, precariously carrying it with one hand. Luckily, you managed to set it down on the table without dropping everything.
You sat down with a satisfied sigh and prepared yourself a cup, making it to your contention. Just as you were about to pick up the cup and drink the nectar of the gods, a pair of hand wrapped themselves around your eyes, casting your vision into complete darkness. You jumped a little at its suddenness but soon relaxed, figuring it was one of the boys.
“Guess who~?” a voice whispered playfully into your ear, causing your shoulders to scrunch up. Your ears were always sensitive. Even the slightest puff of breath on them would send you squirming and cringing.
You rolled your eyes behind the hands, your eyelashes tickling his hands. “Good morning, Jimin,” you greeted politely despite your annoyance.
The hands disappeared and instead were replaced with Jimin’s smiling face. He slid around the couch and took a seat next to you, a tray full of pastries accompanying him. “Ooooh! Did you make tea?” he asked excitedly, his eyes following the steam rise from the hot liquid.
You nodded and made a gesture to it. “Help yourself.” You finally took a sip of the warm liquid, relishing in the release of dopamine rushing throughout your body. The scent of lavender fanned your face along with the comforting steam that rose from the cup. Ah, this is exactly what you needed. Perhaps it wasn’t such a bad idea to wake up so early? After all, you got to enjoy the peace and quiet. Well, until Jimin came along that is, not that you didn’t mind, of course. You enjoyed his presence, seeing as how he brought you comfort on the ride here.
Jimin made herself a cup of tea, setting down the tray of pastries next to it. He took a small sip and curled the corners of his lips into a small smile. “Mhmm, what a perfect way to start the day,” he murmured more to himself than to you. He then gestured to the tray of pastries with a curious glance. “Would you like one?”
Your stomach growled involuntarily. Now that you thought about it. You didn’t have much to eat yesterday what with all of the excitement. You completely missed dinner! No wonder the thought of food made you nearly drool in anticipation. Nodding your head, you set down your teacup and reached for the delicious looking cream puffs. Before you could claim it, however, Jimin quickly swatted your hand away.
“Uh-uh.” He wagged his finger in front of you like a parent to a child. “Hoseok told me that you needed to rest. Now then, you wanted this one?” He plucked the cream puff from the silver tray like an apple and held it out to your face.
Bewildered by his actions, your hand slowly reached out to take the puff from his fingers. What was he trying to do? Coddle you like a little girl? He suddenly retracted his hand when seeing your attempt to grab it. “Say ‘ahhhhhhh’!” He then held it right up to your lips, your eyebrows raised in surprise.
You rolled your eyes once more. “Jimin, it’s not like I’m incapable of doing anything. I can eat on my own. Look, I even made a pot of tea without any help,” you protested. “I only sprained my elbow, not break every bone in my body.” Did he think you were suddenly a grandmother needing to assist your every need?
Jimin tilted his head to the side, concern slipping over his soft features. “But you went through a lot of stress yesterday, both mentally and physically. Why don’t you just sit back, relax, and let me take care of your body?”
You remembered those last words coming from Hoseok last night. For a mere moment, you feared that the doctor boasted to everyone about your little rendezvous, that he managed to get to you before Taehyung. However, your fears quelled when you didn’t recognize any mischief behind his eyes. You only saw a giddiness gleam in them.
You wanted to relax, true, but you weren’t sure if this was how you wanted to unwind. You could only imagine how awkward it might be to be fed by the survivalist. “I’m not a child,” you argued, glancing around the room to see if anyone else had left their rooms. “Besides, what if someone sees us? I would die of embarrassment!”
He shook his head with an airy laugh. “No one else is going to be up for awhile. They’re gonna sleep like rocks, especially after that whole fiasco yesterday.” He lifted the cream puff closer to your mouth, his lips forming a tiny pout. “Come on, just for today at least.”
Seeing as how he wouldn’t give in until you complied with his wishes, you hesitantly bit into the cream puff, tasting the delicious cream mixed with the bread. It honestly was one of the best cream puffs you had in awhile. “Did you make this?” you asked despite your mouth being full.
“No,” he answered with a small giggle, “I asked the chefs downstairs if they could make me a breakfast platter, but I’m flattered you think I could make something as good as this.”
“I’m surprised the kitchen is open at this hour.” You paused to swallow and then asked, “I take it you’re an early bird?”
He nodded before practically shoving the puff into your mouth. You barely had time to prepare yourself for the impact. A surprised noise escaped your mouth muffled by the pastry. Jimin hid a snigger seeing your slightly shocked expression as he continued, “I’m a light sleeper, I guess you could say. As soon as the light hits me, I’m up. It’s okay, though. I usually take this time to stretch and workout a bit.”
You never really had time to exercise given your constantly busy schedule, but you respected him for managing to keep in shape. You wished you could do the same.
“You don’t seem like a morning person,” Jimin observed, probably because you looked like you wanted to crawl back into bed. “What are you doing up so early?”
You munched on the puff for a few seconds before swallowing and replying, “I couldn’t really fall asleep last night. I don’t know why. I was bloody exhausted, but for some reason I couldn’t.”
Jimin shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. “Maybe there was too much on your mind? A lot happened yesterday, I wouldn’t be surprised if all the action kept you up,” he suggested, taking a sip of his tea.
You leaned forward and took another bite, ready to say a reply to your own. However, a string of cream still connecting to the puff in Jimin’s hand suddenly broke and stuck itself to your chin. Your hand flew up to wipe off the mess, but Jimin was faster.
“Oops, you got a little on your chin,” he chuckled. His free hand cupped your chin while his thumb rubbed itself over the skin, wiping off the cream. Your cheeks flared with heat at the intimate contact. You flickered your eyes to look to the side, taking a sudden interest in a brass vase sitting on a table. Wow, what year was that made? It had to made recently; no doubt anything older would be in a museum back in England. You estimated it was perhaps manufactured towards the end of the nineteenth century, judging from the design etched into the brass.
Your panicked examination of the vase was cut short when you noticed your heart rapidly beating in your chest like a ceremonial drum. Why were you so flustered? This wasn’t the worst thing any of the boys had done. If anything, Jimin was being kind and considerate.
Of course, you spoke too soon, because in the next second Jimin brought his thumb to his mouth and licked the cream off of it, his tongue peeking through his plump, pink lips. It wouldn’t have set your skin ablaze if not for the fact that Jimin stared at you with the same narrowed eyes that Taehyung and Hoseok have been giving you recently. Oh Lord, why must he be so attractive?
You cleared your throat awkwardly and turn your head away. Maybe if you just ignored him long enough, he’ll lose interest and go away? The blood rushed to your ears, and you felt the tips tingle with the heat. Your heart pounded so hard in your chest, you thought it was going to burst. Your fingers played with themselves nervously, trying to distract you. Your mind chanted repeatedly for him to go away and leave you in peace. However, luck wasn’t on your side that morning, as per usual.
Jimin chuckled deeply, grabbing his teacup. “You’re too cute when you’re embarrassed,” he commented playfully. “So innocent, so sweet. I bet you taste sweeter than these treats.”
With that, you drained the rest of the tea from your cup. It seemed the chamomile and lavender weren’t helping the amount of stress you were currently undergoing. “Oh! Would you look at that? I’m out of tea! I’m going to go to the kitchen and make some more,” you announced, standing up to quickly leave the room.
“Oh? And waste all the tea right here?” Jimin inquired while gesturing to the steaming teapot sitting on the table. Bollocks, you forgot about that small fact.
You laughed sheepishly as you slowly spun on your heel to meet his expecting gaze. Nothing was going your way it seemed. Quick, you needed to come up with a lie! “I didn’t really like this type. I guess chamomile and lavender isn’t really my thing. I’m sure there’s probably some black tea bags in the kitchen!”
You retreated back into the kitchen away from his prying gaze, throwing your back against the nearest open wall to support yourself on. You fanned yourself with your uninjured hand, hoping to cool down your hot skin. Ugh, you were such a prude. Even the slightest show of sensuality had you reeling.
Were you always like this? You thought yourself to be rather confident when it came to romance. All your previous boyfriends never made you flustered or disoriented like these boys did. That may be because your previous boyfriends never really sought you out sexually. Everything was always casual, besides the once in awhile makeout sessions. Maybe it was because everything was happening too fast for you to keep up? These boys were constantly bombarding you so much that you couldn’t even think straight.
Embarrassingly enough, you were still a virgin. You never had sex with any of your previous boyfriends, because, well, you weren’t quite that attracted to them in that regard. Sure, you liked them, but you never got down to it. All of your friends would tease you that you’d be a virgin until you died, and maybe they were right.
You pulled yourself out of your thoughts as your eyes wavered over to the stove. You rather not make another pot of tea, but you didn’t want to be caught in a lie. So, you grabbed the kettle and looked through the cabinets for any black tea bags. Unfortunately, it seemed that you found just about every other type of tea in existence except for the one you were searching for.
You groaned in agony and frustration. Why the bloody hell did this place have green tea but not black tea? You were so focused on your burning rage that you didn’t notice Jimin sneaking in until he wrapped his arms around your waist, causing you to let out a surprised gasp.
“Jimin! What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you having breakfast or something?” you sputtered, hoping that he might leave if you reminded him of the abandoned baked goods.
Jimin whined quietly and rested his chin on your shoulder, his lips forming a small pout once more. “I want something sweeter,” he complained, sounding like a spoiled child.
You knew deep down exactly what he meant by that but remained oblivious. Maybe he really wanted something else to eat? “Alright, I can make some custard if you-“
“You’re really walking on thin ice here, y/n.”
You froze in his arms, eyes glancing down at him. Was that a threat? “What do you mean by that?”
Instead of replying right away, he moved his head so that his lips latched onto your neck. You flinched at the sudden contact, nearly dropping the box of teabags in your one hand. You bit your lip feeling him leave fiery kisses on your sensitive skin. Setting the box of teabags down, you gripped the edge of the counter so hard your almost left nail marks in the wood.
“What I mean...” His voice trailed off as he sucked on your neck for a few more seconds. “... is that you’re driving me crazy.”
His kisses were soft and gentle, a change of pace compared to Hoseok’s rough and hot lips. Although your mind was going through a hurricane of emotions, your body began to relax under the pleasant feeling he gave you.
His hot breath against your skin made you squirm with a soft squeal. Each puff of breath sent shivers running up and down your spine. It was almost unbearable. Damnit, how did these men know how to leave you breathless?
His lips moved tantalizingly slow up your neck until he found that little space behind your jaw. As his mouth curled into a wicked smirk, he nibbled on the skin. Your eyes widened as your jaw went slack, a stifled gasp slipped from your lips. He replaced his lips with his tongue, sending warm sensations down to your core. You were practically melting in his hands. God, you didn't know how much longer you could survive this.
When Jimin’s hands left your waist to grip the counter, you saw your chance to escape. You dropped down low, leaving Jimin’s wandering lips hanging, and slithered through the small gap under his arms. Aha! You escaped like a mouse vanishing from a cat’s clutches. Jimin widened his eyes slightly in surprise when he realized you slipped away from his grasp and looked at you with confusion etched on his face. He honestly looked like a child whose favorite toy was just taken away.
You laughed nervously, tucking a few strands of hair behind your ear. “Well, if I drive you crazy, then maybe you take a break from me and just clear your head?” you spewed out. Dear Lord, what were you talking about?! You honestly wanted to bash your head into the nearest wall in mortification.
Jimin slowly crossed his arms while leaning against the counter, his confusion ebbing away into aggravation. His eyes narrowed onto you as his jaw clenched. You noticed his tongue poking into his cheek as he exhaled sharply through his nose. Oh God, he looked really ticked off. Your thighs clenched together involuntarily as a flash of excitement and fear shot down your spine.
“You really love to play hard, don’t you, y/n?” Jimin tilted his head slightly to the side, eyes flickering over your form momentarily. You swallowed hard when hearing his growling tone, sweat beginning to form uncomfortably on your back. Oh, you were fucked…
“And you really love to play with me,” you retorted as you wrung your hands sheepishly, although you tried to keep a strong gaze of your own. You were digging your own grave, it seemed, like a complete and utter fool.
He pushed himself off the counter and took a few paces toward you. You stood your ground despite wanting to back away from him, your mind chanting at you to remain strong. He kept his arms folded as he stopped just a hair’s length from you, his cologne washing over your senses. “I think it’s about time we stopped playing these games though. I’d like to get right down to business.”
You bit your lip in thought for a few seconds. “What if I like where we are now, playing these games?” Your mind screamed at you to just stop it, to just stop making the whole situation worse, but you just couldn’t. Words tumbled out of your mouth before you could even realize what you were saying.
Jimin arched an eyebrow as he kept his hard stare on you. “Then I just might have to play rough with you then,” he answered cooly. However, you recognized that familiar twinkle in his eyes that gleamed with mischief, although he desperately tried to mask it with nonchalance.
You cleared your throat that suddenly tightened upon hearing his response. Red lights went off in your head while sirens blared internally. Your body was throwing every signal at you to run away and hide, that this man was one second away from doing what Hoseok did the night before. However, you remained composed as you stared at him for a few painful seconds, unsure of what to reply with.
Panic ran through you like a raging storm, though it didn’t show on your face. What do you do? What can you do? Your instincts took over your mind, shoving all logic and reason out the window. It was either fight and flight, and honestly…
You were going to take the flight instinct.
“You’re going to have to catch me first,” you sputtered out before breaking into a sprint out of the kitchen. Honestly, you had no idea what you were doing. You wanted to slap yourself for thinking that you could simply run away from your problems.
Luckily, you managed to get into the living room before what you said finally processed through Jimin’s mind. You fled for your bedroom, thinking that you could lock the door and hide from him until later. Unfortunately, Jimin charged right after you with the prowess of a jaguar. Curse him and his athleticism! You knew you wouldn’t be able to reach your bedroom in time. So, you made a sharp turn around the couch and spun around it before Jimin could grab you. You stood on one side of the couch while your chaser remained on the other side, waiting for you to make a move in one direction.
You took a step to your left while he mirrored your actions, grinning from ear to ear and relishing in the rush of the chase. You then faked a step to your right and sprinted in the opposite direction. Jimin quickly pivoted and followed you, causing a small squeal of panic to escape your throat. Before he could lay a hand on you, you threw yourself over the couch and darted for your bedroom, hearing a small growl of frustration from Jimin. You made quite a distance from him. You had a good chance of actually making it to safety.
All of a sudden, an arm wrapped itself around your waist, pulling you away from your sanctuary. You squeaked out of surprise when another arm slid behind your knees and scooped you up from the ground. You jerked your eyes to meet the perpetrator’s and instinctively wrapped your arms around his neck, your heart hammering in your chest. His eyes gleamed triumphantly, his lips curling into a smug smirk.
“I win.” His smirk widened when you huffed in chagrin. “Now then, you need to keep your side of the bargain.” He carried you back to the couch like a groom carrying his bride into their new house and dropped you onto it. Your body bounced on the plush cushions and pillows that were worth a good fraction of your weekly paycheck.
Jimin climbed onto you, his body hovering over yours. He placed his hands next to your head, caging you between him and the couch. A low chuckle rumbled through his chest as you swallowed the lumped lodged tightly in your throat. “You’re so cute,” he cooed, moving his himself so he was straddling your hips. “Look at you… all flustered and embarrassed, just by my presence. I wonder how hot and bothered you’ll get by my touch.”
He suddenly leaned down, eyes boring into yours with clouded emotions and want. Oh how those lips of his look so kissable. They must be so soft; after all, they felt amazing on your neck. You mentally slapped yourself when realizing your wanton thoughts. Why were you giving in so easily to his charms?
His hands moved from their place on the couch and began to unbutton your shirt at a teasingly slow pace. You were fairly certain his fingers could feel the pounding of your heart against your chest. Goosebumps ran up and down your arms when the cool air came in contact with your hot skin.
“You’ve told me in the past that you hate how much the boys and I tease you. But the thing is, y/n… You’re just as much of a tease to us as we are to you.” His smirk grew when seeing your perplexed expression. “Oh yes, you’re just as bad, doll. You, too, get us all worked up when you act so innocent and adorable. It’s only fair that-” He cut himself off when his pulled back your collar, revealing your collarbone to his roaming eyes.
However, you noticed his eyebrows furrowed in confusion when he detected something that shouldn’t have been there. You would’ve moved your head to see when had him so bewildered, but you couldn’t seem to tear your eyes away from him no matter how hard you tried. His hand left your shirt and skimmed his fingers against your collarbone delicately, leaving goosebumps in their wake. Realization then suddenly dawned upon him, and a humorous chuckle spilled from his plump lips.
“Oh, y/n…” he drawled, pausing to tut playfully. “You’ve been a naughty girl lately, haven’t you?”
It was your turn now to stare at him in bewilderment. “What? What are you talking about?” you demanded, though you kept your tone leveled.
He rocked his hips suddenly, reigniting the heat in your very core. “Still acting innocent till the very end, I see. Very well, how do you explain these hickies?” he revealed, his smug smirk now forming a wicked grin.
You finally tore your ears from his enchanting orbs and bent your head to take in the view of your bruised collarbone and chest. Your eyes widened in horror at the sight, spots of red and purple painted your neck like drops on fine wine. Lovebites?! Your heart dropped to your stomach as a small feeling of slight nausea set in. Hoseok… next time you see him, and you will, you were going to give him hell for leaving those marks.
For now, all you could do was sputter in astonishment. “Those must be from the fall-”
“Oh, spare me the excuses.” Jimin leaned back on your hips, giving you a nice view of all he had to offer. “The evidence is damning. Someone had lots of fun with you last night, it seems. Now I wonder who?” His hands left your collarbone and began trailing down your chest, tracing your curves and prodding at your skin. “It couldn’t have been Taehyung, no matter how much he’d love to be in that position. He never left his room last night,” he mused to himself. “Maybe Jin? … No, Jin is somewhat of a gentleman. He would’ve left hickies on your chest so only he could see his handiwork. That leaves…” His face lit up with realization, almost dramatically. He mouth gaped open, as if he were told a scandalous secret. “The doctor?”
Your face burned with humiliation. You hoped this secret of yours would remain just that, a secret, something that you’d bury deep into the ground where no would dare go searching. However, before you even begin digging the hole, your secret was revealed like a present a child opened up the night before Christmas.
Jimin snickered when you didn’t reply, further proving his suspicions. “So that’s why you were eager to pull him into your room. I thought you just wanted to avoid Taehyung, but I guess you really have a doctor kink.”
Your eyes widened even further to the size of saucer plates. “No!” you immediately protested, earning a curious arched eyebrow from the man looming above you. “He… he made the first move. I didn’t intend for him to…” Your voice trailed off as you couldn’t bring yourself to recall those sensual acts from last night. Sure, you didn’t have sex, but Hoseok’s kisses still left you breathless.
Jimin didn’t need for you to continue, for he already put two and two together. “Ah, so Hobi took the opportunity. Shame, I wanted to be the first one to mark you.” He released a deep, exasperated sigh, his shoulders sagging with the action. “Although… being first doesn’t mean being the best.” His hands stopped at the hem of your trousers, fingers curling around the fabric and pulling at it playfully. “Let me show you why I’m the best, baby.”
With that, he lowered himself onto you, your bodies flush against each other. His lips attached themselves to your neck. Instantly, a gasp fell from your mouth, feeling his lips mold against your neck perfectly. Involuntarily, your uninjured hand snaked up behind his head and dug your fingers into his dark locks, holding his head close to your neck.
His lips moved magnificently, kissing your bare skin as if his life depended on it, as if he were addicted to you. Your breath hitched in your throat when he lightly nipped your sensitive skin, causing your fingers to tighten their grip slightly on his hair. Reactively, he groaned deeply, and the vibrations against your neck made you mewl softly for more.
His hands wandered up from where they rested around your waist and brought themselves up to your shirt once more, unfastening those pesky buttons that just got in the way of your passion. He practically ripped your shirt open and unhooked your bra before quickly discarding it, revealing more hickies from your amorous rendezvous with the doctor the night before. Jimin growled at the sight of them and attacked your chest, leaving no patch of skin unscathed.
A long string of moans left your mouth as you arched your back like a bow, shoving your chest into his mouth. His kisses became a mix of teeth and sucking, wanting to get rid of all evidence of Hoseok’s marks. His lips moved dangerously low, now attacking the supple skin of your breasts. A low moan escaped your throat once more, feeling his mouth latch onto your nipple. Your moans seemed to encourage his actions, because he deepened his kiss, his tongue swirling around your sensitive bud.
He pulled his lips away from your needy breast with a pop and looked up at you through his dark lashes. “Fuck, you look so pretty under me.” You bit your lip shyly and craned your neck to the side, too reticent to keep your gaze on him. He breathlessly chuckled and brought his hand to cup your chin between his fingers, forcing your head to face him again. “Uh-uh, princess, no looking away this time. You’re going to keep watching me as I cover your entire body with marks.” When your eyes widened at his words, he continued, “You know I love seeing you so bashful.”
He must love torturing you, it seemed. You had barely any time to reply or even register his words before he attacked your collarbone again. Your hand left his dark locks to grip at a pillow, the cushions, anything to keep you somewhat grounded. His lips made their way back up your neck and reached your ear. He nibbled on it playfully, and you naturally scrunched your shoulders together reactively.
Pleased by your cute response, he gave your ear a kittenish lick, and you squeaked from how sensitive your ears had gotten. His hands roamed down your body and landed on your breasts once more. His fingers played with your susceptible skin, gracing it with soft strokes and touches that left you whining and panting.
“Jimin…” The name fell from your mouth unconsciously in a quiet whisper. Your mind was a muddled mess of pleasure and pure bliss. You could barely even think straight from all the emotions and sensations that coursed throughout your body like a rapid moving river.
“Ah, fuck…” He paused his nibbling on your ear to capture your lips with his own. You knew his lips were extremely soft and plush, but they felt even more amazing on your mouth. He kissed you with passion, as if he couldn’t get enough of you. One of his hands left your breast to cup the back of your neck, pulling you closer to him. He acted as if he was intoxicated by the taste of you. “I was right.” He cut himself off to quickly peck your lips. “You taste so sweet.”
You both moaned into the kiss, finding yourselves equally addicted to each other. Hands gripped and clung to each other, as if letting go of each other would be the end of you both. Jimin undoubtedly wanted to prove to you how he was the best at passionate love, and he was certainly proving a good argument.
For a moment, you feared the moaning, whining, and gasps would be enough to wake up one of the other boys. Because of this, you held yourself back, concentrating entirely on keeping yourself quiet. Jimin picked up on this, judging on your scrunched up and focused expression, and tugged on your nipple almost harshly. Your breath hitched for a mere moment as a choked gasp left your mouth.
“Don’t be quiet,” he practically growled, his eyes now taking on a darker gleam to them. “I want everyone here to hear how good I make you feel.”
A string of moans and whimpers left your mouth as he rolled your nipple in between his fingers before reluctantly letting it go. You whined from the loss of contact but soon noticed the same hand skimming down your abdomen and close to the hem on your pants. A mix of excitement and uneasiness rushed within you.
His fingers teasingly curled around the fabric and played with it, torturing you as your desire for him was beginning to grow impatient. He smirked, knowing fully what kind of effect he was having on you at the moment. “Come on, baby, tell me how much you need me. Beg for me,” he whispered huskily, “and maybe I’ll oblige.”
Your cheeks blazed with heat once more, the familiar sensation tingling your skin. He was asking you to do what?! Beg like a dog? Your eyes widened to the size of saucers, flustered by what he wanted you to do. Your pride told you to remain stubborn. He actually wasn’t serious, right?
From the lack of a response, Jimin took this as a challenge and placed a knee in between your legs, pressing it against your clothed core. “Tsk, you’re going to be a naughty girl now, of all times? Fine, I guess I’ll make you beg for me.”
You gulped, feeling a tiny bit intimidated by his words. He pressed his knee even further into your core, causing a rush of pleasure to blossom within you. He shuffled his leg a bit, causing his knee to rub against you slightly. A sharp gasp escaped your lips, giving his the reaction he wanted. He prepared himself to torture you a bit further until-
The sound of a door opening and then closing sent your heart racing, not from arousal but from the flash of fear that shot throughout your entire body. Oh no, if any of the other boys saw you in such a disheveled and messy state, it would be the absolute end of you. On one hand, you were terrified someone would find you like this, but, on the other hand, you were glad that you had an excuse to avoid whatever punishment Jimin had in store for you.
You ripped yourself from Jimin’s grasp and fell onto the floor with a thud. As quickly as you could move, you tried your best to make yourself appear as if you hadn’t been fucked out of your mind. You collected and fastened your bra, readjusted your shirt and trousers, and ran your fingers through your sweaty hair. You adjusted your shirt’s collar so that it covered the new lovebites that covered your skin.
You grumbled irritatedly when you noticed how Jimin only needed to brush himself off in order to look presentable. It didn’t help that he gave you a proud smirk as his eyes watched you skittishly clip your bra on. You brought your head to look away from his wandering eyes as he took a few steps toward you. He draped himself across the cough while propping his head up with his hand. “Good thing you reacted when you did. A second longer and whoever walked in would’ve had quite a show.”
You cast your eyes to the ground as your cheeks blossomed with heat. You fixed your hair lastly before turning back to meet his smug grin. “If you mention this to anyone…” you threatened, jabbing a finger right into his chest. You were dead serious; you couldn’t afford him announcing to anyone about this. It would only end up with everyone stepping up their game. You didn’t know if you could handle that.
Jimin’s eyes flickered down toward your finger before returning them to stare into yours. “Oh, don’t worry, doll,” he chuckled, finding your serious attitude all too cute. “This will be our little secret.” He brought his own finger to his plump lips, the same ones that were attached your neck minutes ago, and pressed it against them. “I’d worry more about Hoseok though, if I were you. He can’t keep such a thing to himself for long.”
Ugh, right, Hoseok. How could you forget? Not only did you have to worry about Taehyung, but you had to add Hoseok and Jimin to the pile of secrets. Eugh, you were really becoming a strumpet, weren’t you?
You tucked your shirt into your trousers and fixed your collar before sitting on the couch across from where Jimin laid, grabbing a bun to appear a little less suspicious. Jimin merely smirked smugly watching you fidget and squirm. You were surprised to come across Jin looking elegant and professional as ever. He merely wore a white dress shirt and gray slacks with black leather shoes.
Jin paused his walking and looked at you and Jimin with a surprised expression creeping onto his features. “Oh, morning, you two,” he greeted, cuffing his sleeves as he took a few steps toward you. You relaxed when you realized he didn’t seem to notice your sweaty and rumpled state. “Are you both the only ones up? I thought the others would have woken up by now.”
Jimin shook his head innocently. “No, they’re sleeping like logs. It seems we’re the only responsible and mature people on this team.”
Jin rolled his eyes, annoyed by the others’ delay. He stomped over to the occupied rooms with an irritated groan. “Can’t believe I have to wake them up like a mother,” he grumbled to himself.
“Where were you, Jin?” you asked curiously, noticing that he came from the door leading to the elevator.
The millionaire perked his head toward you as he made his way toward Yoongi’s door. “I was making sure no one managed to track us to this hotel, and I also decided to buy a few shirts to replace the ones that were ruined yesterday,” he answered before flinging the door open. “Rise and shine, Yoongi!” He clapped his hands loudly to gain Yoongi’s attention. “Wake up! It’s already seven o’clock!”
After the mechanic reluctantly dragged himself out of his room with messy hair and a glare that could kill, Jin gathered the remaining members, all of whom still looked exhausted. You were about to move into one of the armchairs next to you; but before you could even lift yourself from your spot, two bodies made themselves comfortable snug against you. You froze and lifted your round eyes to see the two men.
Taehyung and Hoseok… could your morning get any worse?
Dread pooled in your stomach like lead as you settled yourself back into the couch, figuring it would have been way too obvious that you were trying to avoid them if you left now. You tried to push out the negativity that filled your mind. Maybe they just wanted to spend some time with you? No way they wanted to tease you so early in the day. Apparently that was Jimin’s thing. You should give them another chance.
“Good morning, boys,” you greeted, curling your lips into a pleasant smile. “Did you sleep well?”
Taehyung returned your smile with his own, rubbing away the sleep from his eyes. “I would be better if I had a little more time to sleep,” he answered, his words slightly slurred from grogginess.
“Me, too,” Hoseok chuckled tiredly. You noticed how unkempt the doctor’s appearance was. His hair was messy, his eyes were unfocused and glossed over, and his clothing was disheveled. However, his dazed eyes blown wide in remembrance. “Oh, y/n! I almost forgot!” He rushed off back into his room only to return with a clothed ice pack, offering it to your injured and slightly swollen arm. “Remember, you need to ice your arm for ten to twenty minutes for the next four days.” His exhausted aura gave way to his usual bright energy. Man, you envied how he could sometimes snap himself out of exhaustion.
You took the ice pack out of his hands and applied it to your casted arm, sighing at the calming coolness that washed over your heated and tender skin. After thanking Hoseok, he merely plopped down next to you and said, “No need to thank me, I almost forgot, anyway. Oh, and remind me to give you your painkillers sometime, okay?” You didn’t fail to notice the impish gleam in his eyes that glittered when he said those words.
You just nodded your head and turned your gaze away sheepishly only for your stare to connect with Jimin’s. His eyes held the same gleam that Hoseok’s bore, but you also saw the way the corners of his lips curled into a smug smirk. Oh, he knew the meaning behind those words, didn’t he? He was never going to let this down, it seemed.
“Geez, I feel like I could fall back asleep at any moment,” Taehyung butted into the conversation.
Hoseok nodded in agreement. “I’m pretty sure Jin woke me up from a dead sleep,” he commented. He brought a hand to his mouth to stifle his yawn before it broke away to an airy laugh. “Oh my God, Yoongi!” He gestured to the mechanic, who was plopped onto the armchair you planned on taking.
Yoongi had brought a fuzzy blanket from his room and was currently wrapped up in the cloth like an Inuit man huddling around a fire. The only thing visible was his pissed off face, glowering at everyone and everything in the room. “Don’t talk to me,” he grunted, his voice barely audible.
You tried your best to hold back your laughter in order to avoid Yoongi possibly strangling you, and offered the teapot to him. “Would you like some tea to wake you up a bit?” you asked, ignoring his warning.
A few long seconds passed, and you were unsure if Yoongi even heard you in the first place. However, you saw him nod his head subtly and widened your smile. You grabbed a teacup sitting unused on the table and poured the steaming, amber liquid into the porcelain cup. The scent of lavender wafted into the air, causing everyone to desire the warm drink. “Sugar?” you prompted, hand hovering over the sugar cubes.
“Noooooooo,” was his tired, mumbled reply, muffled by layers of blanket.
You complied with his wishes, smiling fondly at how adorable Yoongi looked and acted, and handed him the cup of tea. His hands wrapped around it and brought it up to his face, relishing in the warm scent before taking a sip of it. He released a relaxed sigh before sinking even further into his blankets. Your heart clenched at the sight; he looked so endearing!
“Alright, everyone!” Jin announced, dragging a half-asleep Jungkook into the living room followed by Namjoon walking in with a book in hand. “Now that we’re all here, we can get down to business.” He pushed Jungkook into a nearby armchair before standing in front of everybody, arms crossed in front of his chest. “We know our next step is in Punjab, but that’s a lot of area to cover. We need to figure out a way to narrow our search.”
Namjoon closed his book with a soft ‘thud’ and took a few steps toward Jin’s side. “If we had spent a few more hours down in those caves, we probably could’ve found where our ancestors went in Punjab, but those soldiers stopped us before we could look further,” he sighed disappointedly.
You felt a sting of pity in your heart upon seeing Namjoon with his arm in a sling. You supposed he was till in a lot of pain from the bullet that was lodged in his shoulder. You noticed how slowly he would move, as if the slightest movement would bring him pain. You wished you could’ve done something, anything, to prevent him from getting shot. However, you knew that no one expected the group to get ambushed, much less from the Japanese government.
“It’s not like we can go back either,” Jimin added, moving himself out of his lying position and now sitting upright. “That place is probably swarming with guards, especially after our little shoot-out there.”
You raised your non-cast arm to gather everyone’s attention. “I took some pictures of the tapestry in the caves and developed the pictures last night.” With a shrug, you commented, “I figured you chaps would like to study them, since you didn’t get the chance to yesterday.”
Namjoon released a sigh of relief and smiled broadly from ear to ear, absolutely beaming from your news. “God, y/n, you really are an angel,” he laughed, rubbing the back of his neck.
You brushed off his compliment, now getting used to all the light praise the boys would shower you in. Of course, if the boys praised you in a more flirtatious manner, well, that was a whole different story. “It’s nothing, I’m just doing my job.” You stood up from your spot on the couch and retrieved the pictures from your room. You were rather pleased with yourself that they developed rather nicely considering that you weren’t exactly experienced in developing film.
Returning back to the living room, you handed the photos Namjoon, who eagerly plucked them from your fingers and examined them over. His eyes scanned over the images quickly, absorbing every once of information he could obtain from such small pictures. You noticed the way his lips subtly moved to mumble the ancient language inscribed onto the tapestry.
Quite a few seconds, or maybe it was minutes, passed in tensed silence. Everyone waited in anticipation for the great discovery that Namjoon was about to disclose. Everybody hoped for the best; that somewhere on that tapestry was the exact location of where the fleeing Koreans went to with the Dragon of the Stars. At least, everyone hoped for an indication of where to go next in this never-ending quest for treasure.
Finally, Namjoon tore his gaze from the picture and looked at a nearby wall in deep thought, his brows wrinkled in confusion. “‘Give drink with a bowl of stone waters from the lake of the moon’s flower to the Dragon in order to bring it to its homeland’...?” he wondered out loud, completely forgetting everyone else in the room.
“What?” Bewilderment stretched across your features at his cryptic words. What on earth was he talking about? He might as well have been speaking in tongues. “Was that on the tapestry?”
Namjoon nodded in confirmation, snapping himself out of his deep thoughts, before adding, “Yeah, this was the last line given to us by our ancestors. They must’ve left behind some clues to follow in this passage.”
“Great,” Yoongi grumbled, poking his head from his thick blankets. “More fucking riddles.”
“Could the Dragon in the riddle be the Dragon of the Stars?” Jungkook prompted, ignoring Yoongi’s complaining.
Jin shrugged his broad shoulders. “That’s the only connection I can think of. The phrase ‘in order to bring it to its homeland’ could mean finding it and taking it back to Korea.” He cupped his chin, his face scrunching together in deep concentration. “So in order to find the Dragon, we have to follow these instructions.”
“‘A bowl of stone’?” Jimin echoed the riddle, slight signs of frustrations creeping on his face. “That could literally be any bowl on the planet!”
Jin began pacing back and forth in front of everyone, one hand on his chin while the other rested on his hip. His leather shoes clicked against the stone floor rapidly as his strides became faster with hidden anxiety. “Bowl… bowl… bowl…” he repeated to himself. “What could that mean? Maybe they’re talking about a basin or something related to that?”
“Sounds to me they’re speaking literally,” Taehyung inputted with a yawn. “Who knows? Maybe they really want us to find a bowl.” He stretched his long arms above him with a groan and then wrapped one of his arms around your shoulders. He did it so casually that your brain didn’t register its presence until a few seconds too late, causing you to stiffen in reply and glance at him cautiously out of the corners of your eyes. “Too bad they couldn’t give us a better description of what this bowl looks like.”
“Ah, yes, a stone bowl,” Yoongi recalled, taking a sip out of his warm drink. “That helps us so much. Even if we just happened to know which bowl we’re supposed to be looking for, who’s to say that it’s still around? We were lucky that y/n’s tapestry was in good condition for it being nearly two thousand years old.”
“Well, I don’t know about you,” Hoseok began with a shrug of his shoulders, “but if I were someone who just made a bowl that was the key to finding a hidden treasure, I’d hide it somewhere where it’ll be protected from anything that might destroy it. People, natural causes, stuff like that.”
“Well, no shit, Sherlock,” the mechanic jeered. If he wasn’t wrapped up in fluffy, white blankets, his mock might have actually hurt Hoseok. “Got any ideas on where that might be?”
Hoseok raised his hands slightly in the air in surrender. “Hey, you didn’t let me finish! As I was saying, I might hide it in a container of sorts. Like a chest!”
Yoongi snorted. “Great… we’re pirates now.”
“Well, to be fair, we did desecrate a historical site that was hidden away for nearly two milenia,” Namjoon remarked, giving a pointed look to Taehyung, who merely gave him an angelic smile in reply.
“And kidnappers!” you added, reminding them of how they drugged you and captured you in order to obtain your tapestry.
Everyone released a collected groan at your comment, the loudest being Hoseok, who, of course, was the main culprit behind your kidnapping. “For the last time, we had to do what we needed to do!” Jin protested, throwing his hands up in the air dramatically.
“Still makes you kidnappers.”
“Wait, guys,” Namjoon interrupted the argument before it could spiral out of control. “I think I might have an idea of what this bowl might be.”
Jungkook deflated with a sigh. “And you just decide to tell us this now, after we’ve been wracking over brains over it?” He ran a hand through his dark locks, shoulders sagging in exasperation.
Namjoon turned his sharp gaze to the youngest. “Excuse me, you weren’t contributing much to the discussion. So you don’t get to say anything.” He returned his attention to the rest of the team and continued, “So before Koreans began using celadon in their pottery, they made what we call silla pottery, named after the time period it was first made in. Basically, silla pottery is stoneware pottery. They would make changgyong ho, which are tall jars, and kobae, which are wide bowls.”
Kobae. That word sounded so familiar to you. Your heart nearly stopped beating in your chest and your blood almost turned into ice at the name. Where did you hear that before? Did Namjoon mention this in previous conversations? You quickly searched through your memories, but you couldn’t recall such a discussion. Damnit, what was it?! Where did you hear that bloody word before?
The conversations around you were muted as you were lost in your own thoughts. You almost gave up on trying to remember, but then it all came back to you in a flood. Bloody hell! That’s what it was?
You suddenly stood up from the couch and began to search through the many newspapers that were lain strewn on the various tables in the room. Your eyes scoured through many articles, comics, and headlines. The others watched in curiosity and slight concern as you tossed bundles of newspapers to the side like it was trash.
“Y/n? You alright?” Jimin called out to you, his voice full of worry more than confusion.
You distractedly nodded your head, not bothering to look back at them. “Yes, I’m fine. I just remembered something very important.” You tossed another newspaper to the side that almost fell to the floor. “Before I teamed up with you lads, I worked with the British’s newpaper company here while I was researching into the Indian Indepence Movement. We exchanged some info and articles and they told me- Here!” You pulled out a newspaper page from the rest and showed it to them as if it was the solution to all problems. You jabbed your finger at the article in question when Namjoon took it from your hands. “Some British archeologists found an artifact that left them bewildered in an excavation site by a Hindu temple in ruins. They said it was an artifact of Asian origin rather than Indian, and they think that the artifact is indeed…” You pulled away with a large grin plastered on your face. “A kobae.”
Everyone at this point was huddled around you and Namjoon, peering over your shoulders to read over the article with intense, focused stares. Their eyes ran over the words with a rapid pace, eating up the words like wolves devouring a caribou. Finally, Jungkook released a burst of laughter of shock. “I can’t believe it. That’s gotta be it!” He slapped a hand against his forehead in disbelief. “It’s right there for our taking. Jin, you can buy it, can’t you?”
Jin crossed his arms, his surprise fading away into disappointment. A long, drawn-out sigh escaped his lips. “Technically, this is now the property of the British government, and I highly doubt they’ll just give it away,” he revealed, causing everyone’s hidden excitement to quickly disperse.
“Look here,” Namjoon said, gathering everybody’s attention back to the article. “It says here that the discoveries of the archeologists will be displayed during a private exhibition opening gala at the Imperial Museum at Calcutta on Friday evening. That means that the kobae will be there.”
“But don’t we need the kobae in our actual hands, not behind a pane of glass?” you reminded, confusion etched across your face. “Besides, like Jin said, the government isn’t just going to hand the bloody bowl over to us.”
A long, pregnant pause settled upon the group as the tension began to rise. Unspoken words were said, but the boys began to give each other knowing stares. You watched in pure bewilderment as one by one the boys began to grin at each other, and only then did you realize what they were silently insinuating. Your eyes blew wide open in utter distress. “No! No, no, no! We are not going to break in and steal a bowl from a museum!” you protested, throwing your injured hand in the air in exasperation and dismay.
“One: they technically stole it from our ancestors and are claiming it as theirs,” Taehyung argued, raising one finger in the air before adding another. “And two: we won’t break in. We aren’t savages, after all.”
Jin clapped his hands together in anticipation and to gain everybody’s attention. “Alright, everyone, sit down. We need to make a plan of action.”
The team did as Jin ordered and settled back down in their previous spots. Dread filled every part of your being. Right now, you were going to be apart of a conspiracy to rob a museum. You were about to become a criminal. Great, another thing to add to the list of things you have done. First, you abandoned your job to join a treasure hunting expedition, then you were almost killed by the Japanese government, and now you were about to raid a historical museum. You have certainly done it all at this point of your life.
“So,” the millionaire began, clasping his hands together tightly. He stood in front of everyone like a boss about to give his employees the rundown of the week. “We know that the gala will begin in the evening on Friday, but it will most likely be guarded since it’s private.”
You rubbed your temples, feeling the beginnings of a headache already. You couldn’t believe you were about to seriously do this. “I can get us inside,” you announced, dropping your hand onto your lap in defeat. “They’ll let a journalist inside, especially if I’m there to write an article on the event. They’ll probably even let me bring at least one escort.” You regretted those last words leaving your lips, because now every set of eyes were on you. Each stared at you with that gleam, that gleam you were now so familiar with.
You opened your mouth to protest any inappropriate behavior, but Jin interrupted you, saying, “I’ll be your escort for publicity’s sake, and we can bring Jungkook along and claim he is our bodyguard.”
You desperately wanted to protest to such an idea, but you then realized that going with Jin was probably the smartest move out of everyone else. You also didn’t fail to notice the look of excitement that crossed Jungkook’s features. He bounced eagerly in his seat, looking like a child who was just told that he could go to the candy shop.
“I can probably get in, too,” Namjoon mentioned, stuffing his hands into his pockets idly. “After all, I’m a historian. I won’t rouse any suspicion from others. That way, there’ll be four of us there to grab the kobae.”
“What about your shoulder?” Jungkook asked, his face full of concern for the historian.
Namjoon gave the youngest a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, Kook, it’s not like I’m going to do any heavy lifting. I’m just going to be socializing and scoping out the area. If anyone asks about my shoulder, I’ll say I fell down a flight of stairs and injured it.”
“Can I go?!” Taehyung suddenly burst out, raising his hand to get Jin’s attention, who only shook his head in disagreement.
“Sorry, Tae, but too many of us will get some people suspicious.”
The demolition expert deflated and crossed his arms in front of his chest, his lips forming into a childish pout. Jin ignored Taehyung’s grumbling and continued, “The rest of you will be nearby though. What I propose is that we perform a lights-out operation. Yoongi, you can tamper with the building’s power, correct?”
Yoongi ran a hand down his face while letting out a tired groan. “Yeah, I can do it. I just need to study the building’s wiring to figure out which plug I need to pull. Hopefully, I can scout out the museum without anyone noticing me,” he answered.
“And then what? We just grab that bowl and run?” you questioned, wondering how the team could pull it off. “What about security?”
“We can take care of that!” Jimin exclaimed, gesturing to himself and Taehyung. “Kookie will be too busy making sure you three are safe. So we’ll make an escape path for you so the guards won’t notice you running off with the kobae.”
Hoseok waved his hand in the air excitedly. “And I’ll be nearby in case anything goes wrong!”
You sighed, feeling all the worries and anxieties come upon you all at once. “It can’t be that simple. We’re going to get caught one way or another,” you remarked, you stomach starting to do flips from the nervousness that began to settle in.
“Think of it this way, dollface,” Jimin began. “It won’t be a simple walk in, grab the kobae, and walk out. It’ll be more like… walk in, spend a few hours there, socialize, dance, drink, wait for everyone to get a little tipsy, pull the plug, grab the kobae, and then sneak out. No one will remember you because they’ll have enough alcohol to muddle up their memory.”
“And if we get caught?”
“Then we’ll knock them out and put an empty wine bottle in their hand.”
“... We’re going to end up in jail.”
—————————————
And that was how you ended up in Calcutta outside of what was definitely the biggest, fanciest, and richest clothing store you have ever seen in your entire life. Your round eyes continuously stared at the large building for what seemed like hours. Rich men and women walked in and out of its golden revolving doors with boxes and bags filled with items that would cost a big number out of your paycheck.
Jin had convinced you to come along with Namjoon and Jungkook to go shopping for the appropriate attire for the evening gala. You figured that you would wear the dress you had packed in your suitcase; but once Jin saw the dress you picked out, he cupped your face, called you a poor child, and then dragged you to this monstrosity of a store
You swallowed a large lump in your throat, clearly intimidated by the magnificence of the building. Your eyes roamed over the golden sign for what seemed like the millionth time. Goldosa. It sounded like the name of a foreign princess, to be honest.
Jin suddenly appeared by your side with big, dark sunglasses covering his eyes. He wore a special grey suit for the occasion, and, to be completely frank, you felt like a pauper next to him. He pushed his sunglasses down the bridge of his nose so his eyes could stare expectedly into yours. “Come on, y/n, we can’t have you be the fashion disaster of the gala!” he exclaimed as he looped his arm through yours and dragged you through the shining doors.
As you stumbled after him, you commented, “You know, Jin, I’m starting to think you wanted to be my escort only because you wanted to attend the gala.” You took in your surroundings. Your reflection could be seen on the polished marble floor. Everything shone brilliantly in the light , from the metalic, golden designs that seemed to cover every single wall and pillar to the crystal chandelier that hung magnificently above your heads. You were scared that by stepping into such a place that you’d have to pay an entrance fee.
Jin chuckled humorously at your remark, tearing you away from your wandering thoughts. “Of course not, I volunteered to be your escort so that I can get the kobae, simple as that.” He then gave you a cheeky smile followed by a flirtatious wink. “That and to have the pleasure of having a lovely lady at my side.”
Your cheeks burned as you released a small huff. “I almost forgot how much of a flatterer you are,” you observed, willing your face to cool down.
“Ah, but I haven’t forgotten how susceptible you are to my flattery,” he replied, now taking off the sunglasses and placing them in his breast pocket. “Your reactions are far too cute. You do know that, right?”
You faintly recalled Jimin mentioning that you had as much of an effect on them as they did on you. Perhaps you could give them a taste of your own medicine for once? “So I’ve been told. In fact, a little birdy told me that I have quite an effect on you. Shall we test that out?” You wanted to see Jin’s face flare up like how yours had been for the past few days. Oh, what you would give just to see him act shy and timid for once.
However, your plan didn’t go very far as Jin suddenly pulled you very close toward him so that your bodies were flushed. You squeaked in surprise, unable to foresee such events, as your cheeks blossomed with even more heat than before. Your eyes looked around frantically, hoping that none of the shoppers saw what an embarrassing situation you found yourself in.
Jin stared at you amusedly, a smirk tugging up the corners of his lips. “Is that an invitation, dear y/n?” he asked all too innocently. His hand reached out to cup your chin so that you were forced to look into his eyes. No doubt he could tell how much of a panic you were in. “Because if it is, then I’ll gladly take you somewhere else where I can bend you over a table and show you what an effect you have on me over and over again.”
Dear Lord! You couldn’t believe you just heard such vulgar words come from him! You stumbled over your words, your tongue suddenly tied. Your hands suddenly felt clammy as you squeezed them tightly. “N-no, it isn’t,” you meekly stuttered.
Jin seemed content with your quiet answer and pulled away, letting his hand fall away from your face. However, he still kept his arm looped in yours as he guided you throughout the store. “Then don’t suggest things that you don’t actually want.”
You shuffled after the millionaire, casting your sheepish gaze down to the marble stone floor. What the bloody hell was that? You thought you had grown used to being in such suggestive situations, especially after your experiences with Jimin and Hoseok. However, it seemed that you were proven wrong yet again. You still were shy when confronted with flirting and vulgar comments. Would you ever get used to this?
Probably not.
“I thought you said that Namjoon and Jungkook would be with us,” you mumbled quietly. You desperately wanted to fan yourself from how hot you had suddenly gotten, but Jin currently grasped your unjuried arm in his own, and Hoseok told you not to use your wounded hand unnecessarily.
It seemed like you were going to die from heat stroke, you guessed.
“I sent them on ahead, since you were too busy ogling at the exterior of the building. They’re probably already looking through some suits if not getting tailored,” Jin answered, bringing you up a series of stairs.
You climbed up with him, hearing the heels of your shoes clicking against the stone floor almost satisfyingly. Finally bringing your eyes up to him, you momentarily forgot your flustered state, protesting, “I’m sorry that not everyone can afford to go shopping at stores that cost a fortune to buy from! I’ve never been in a store like this before.”
“Which is why, my dear, I’m treating you this time with a dress and accessories of your choosing.”
Huh, was this what it felt like to have a sugar daddy?
You were brought to a section of the store where racks of dresses were scattered across the space along with a few mannequins standing lifelessly on stools presenting the best of what Goldosa had to offer. You pulled yourself from Jin’s arm and began to look through the racks, marveling at the vibrant and intricate material of each dress.
The sweat that had built up on your brow and back grew sticky, your hair and clothing plastering against it. You only hoped that Jin wouldn’t notice how flustered you still were. In fact, you made sure that you retreated a few racks away from where Jin idly looked through the dresses. Never before had you seen so many flapper dresses in your entire life. Of course, you had a few of these in your possession, but the gala didn’t call for such promiscuous attire.
“Do you have any colors in mind, y/n?” Jin suddenly called out to you, snapping you from your thoughts.
You paused for a few moments, thinking over the question in your mind. You really didn’t have a preference. You just chose whatever happened to look nice on you; your closest was a mix of every color and style on the planet. “I don’t know. Do you have any ideas?” you replied, eyes scouring through the rows of dresses.
Jin looked up from his searching to study your face. You didn’t notice his staring until you got a feeling of someone watching you. Bringing your gaze to meet his, you both stared at each other for a few seconds. Awkwardness began to bubble within you, and you tried to think of anything to comment about. However, your mind was at a complete blank.
“I think red would be a lovely color on you. It would go very nicely with your skin,” he suggested, giving a gesture to you.
Red. The color of blood. You supposed with what you’ve gone through these past few days, red would be an appropriate color for you. You abandoned the rack you were searching through and went to another that had a few more dresses of that color and began to inspect the clothes hanging there. You collected a few dresses that caught your eye and laid them over your arm.
“I’m going to try these on,” you notified Jin, who gave you a nod of confirmation, and left the area.
Entering the changing rooms, you were immediately intimidated by the setup of the rooms. Everything was so… open. The changing rooms in the stores you shopped at had a closet for a changing room. This… this was almost excessive with how much space there was. You awkwardly scuttled past a woman who was checking herself out in the large mirrors in a dress that revealed more than you really cared to see.
You quickly ducked into one of the rooms and locked the door with a click. Finally, some privacy. You hung the dresses you admired on a hook and began to undress yourself. Occe your blouse was off, you just happened to glance up at the mirror, and your mouth instantly fell agape in horror. Your entire neck and chest was just a mass of lovebites. Blotches of red and purple colored your skin as if someone took a paintbrush to your skin. The bloody hickies were even worse than before!
Jimin! Hoseok! Those little- argh! You couldn’t try on these dresses, not unless you wanted the entire world to see the scandalous activities you’ve been apart of as of late. Your hand massaged your face, feeling dread and humiliation wash over your entire being. Right now, you just wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear from society.
There was a sudden knock on your door that nearly made you jump out of your bruised skin. You frantically whipped your head toward the source of the sound with wide eyes. “I-I’m almost done!” you responded, trying to mask the panic in your voice.
You continued to undress yourself and then slipped into the first dress that caught your eye. Unfortunately, this dress didn’t really cover your neck enough to hide the hickies. You felt your entire face heat up from the disgrace you were in. Another knock on the door made you panic even further. If Jin saw you like this… you would never hear the end of it.
“Y/n? Are you alright?”
Namjoon! Oh thank God, he wouldn't force you to show yourself to him. After all, he was the most mature out of everyone on the team.
“I’m fine!” you answered, beginning to undress yourself. “I’m done trying this on. I don’t like it, the fabric is too scratchy. Could you please take it back, Namjoon?”
“Jin told me to see you with the dress first before you took it off.”
Of course he bloody did. Nothing ever went your way. “Darn shame, I already took it off, and I don’t want to put it back on.” You quickly slipped out of the dress and returned it to its original hook. You brought it over the door for the historian to grab. You sighed quietly in relief when he took it without protest.
You then tried on another dress. Luckily, this one had a better fabric than the last one did. It slipped over your skin easily like silk. Once you adjusted it, you took a look at yourself in the mirror. Sadly, this one didn’t cover your lovebites either. You might just have to wear a nun’s habit to cover up the bruises. However, you really like this dress. It was a deep shade of red with a loose neckline. It fitted you nicely and had an open back with a necklace that drooped down your backline. In all honesty, you looked rather high-class in this dress, and that was what you were going for, correct?
Another knock on the door caught your attention. “Are you done getting dressed?” Namjoon asked, his tone more relaxed than before.
Before you could catch yourself, you answered, “Yes, I’m just about done.”
“Alright, I’m coming in.”
You whipped your head around, panic etched onto your face. “Wait! No-!”
Too late, Namjoon opened the door and took a step in. What the hell?! You thought you locked the bloody door! The historian took in your image, and it took him a few seconds to notice the artwork on your neck and chest. Humiliation blazed within every fiber of your being. This was just a nightmare, it had to be. There was no way that everything could be going wrong all on the same day.
Namjoon’s eyes widened in shock as he took in the sight. You stood there like a deer caught in the headlights and then ran a hand through your hair in frustration. “Look, it isn’t what it looks like,” you began slowly, trying to keep your tone even and calm. “This was all from the tumble I took down the hill.”
Okay, that had to be the worst lie in existence, but you honestly couldn’t think of anything else.
Namjoon nodded his head, his expression blatantly telling you that he wasn’t buying your story. “Yeah, you somehow managed to get bruised all over there but nowhere else besides your arm?”
You sighed, feeling a wave of exhaustion suddenly wash over you. You sagged your shoulders in defeat. “Please don’t tell anyone,” you begged languidly. You were tired of keeping these secrets. It was too much for you to handle.
The historian didn’t reply at first. You could practically see the gears that were turning in his head as he gathered his thoughts together. “Who did it?” he finally asked, his expression completely serious now.
You stood there awkwardly, unsure if you necessarily wanted to throw the two boys under the bus. However, you relented. “Hoseok…” you answered, then squeezed your eyes tightly together before adding, “and Jimin…”
Namjoon sighed in disappointment, and you obviously tell the disappointment was directed at you. He leaned against the wall of the changing room. “Leave it to them to do a messy job.”
Wait, what? That wasn’t the response you were expecting. You face took on a confused expression, your eyebrows knitting together closely. “I’m sorry, I don’t think I heard right.”
Namjoon pushed himself from the wall and took a step toward you, his face wincing for a mere moment. You figured he moved too fast and caused pain to shoot up his shoulder. “No, you heard me right. They did a very messy job,” he groaned from the pain, then shook his head and released another sigh. “What are they? Animals?”
You blinked a few times, unsure if he was actually acting serious. To be fair, you weren’t really sure what you were expecting, just certainly not… this. It was almost as if he was used to this type of behavior. “You’re taking this surprisingly well,” you remarked slowly.
His seriousness faded away into a small smile. “Normally, I’d teased the hell out of you over this, but something tells me you already have enough on your plate. I’ll let you off the hook this time, but only because I like you and you’ve been very helpful, despite all of our teasing,” he explained, digging his hands into his pants pockets.
You instantly relaxed, a smile of your own matching his. “Oh thank God,” you breathed out, feeling relief wash over you. “I was scared you would take advantage of this situation.”
“I would normally,” he admitted with a nonchalant shrug, “but you already looked fucked out.”
Your cheeks glowed with a small burst of heat at how bluntly he said those words. Did none of these boys have a filter for their mouths? “I guess you could say that…” you mumbled quietly, not wanting to mention that neither of them have actually fucked you yet.
Namjoon then looked you up and down, taking in the dress that hugged your body nicely. He approved of the color, seeing how red looked so gorgeous against your beautiful and soft skin. The open back was a plus, too. He always did admire a lovely back. “The dress looks beautiful on you,” he commented with a pleasant smile. “Do you like it?”
You smiled shyly at his kind words. “Yes, I think I’m going to get this one. It fits me rather nicely, don’t you think?” You spun around, allowing the skirt of the dress to fan out gracefully like a red rose in full bloom.
Namjoon’s smile widened when seeing how relaxed you seemed to be in his presence. “Aphrodite herself would be jealous.”
You playfully hit his arm while rolling your eyes. “Oh please, now you’re exaggerating.”
“I’m an historian, I only state the facts.” An idea suddenly dawned upon him like a revelation sent from above. “I know what would go nicely with you dress.”
You arched an eyebrow in curiosity, wondering to yourself if he was thinking of a bracelet or a brooch of some kind. “Oh? What do you have in mind?” you asked inquisitively.
The historian then took a step outside in the hallway. His hand began to close the door so he could give you privacy from wandering eyes. “Get dressed and I’ll show you.” Before you could further question him, he closed the door, leaving you alone with your questions and thoughts.
Slowly you began to take off the beautiful dress, trying to ignore the three digit number on the price tag, and placed back on its hanger. Questions still boggled in your mind as you stepped outside the changing room, the dress hanging over your arm. What exactly was he planning? You hoped deep down that whatever he had in mind wasn’t going to end up with your humiliation.
You walked out into the main store once more and noticed Namjoon waiting patiently for you. He glanced at a pocket watch in his hand before detecting your arrival. He shoved his watch into his pocket and strode over to you, a smile gracing his lips. He offered his hand to you in which you took. Somehow, this seemed more intimate than Jin’s interlooping his arm through yours.
“What are you planning?” you finally asked, wondering what was going on in that brian of his.
He chuckled humorously and began to lead you down the store aisles. “Nothing malicious, I promise you. I saw it when Jungkook and I were going toward the suits, and I instantly thought of you.”
Well, that was rather sweet of him. Men and women of high status gave you wondering glances as you walked hand-in-hand with Namjoon. You didn’t know if it was because of the fact you were walking with him hand-in-hand or because of Namjoon’s arm sling.
He suddenly tugged you down into a smaller area where belts, faux fur shrugs, and fur shawls all hung from racks. You stood there a little confused for a mere moment until Namjoon grabbed what he was on his mind the entire time. He held out a white fur shawl out toward you. You had to admit, this took you by surprise. You had no idea what animal the fur came from. Mink? Fox? This wasn’t exactly your area of expertise.
“Oh, Namjoon…” You took the fur from his hands and examined it further. This had to be the finest fur out of the whole collection. You never owned a fur shawl in your entire life. That was something for the high and rich class. “I can’t buy this… It’s too high quality for me.”
“I’ll buy it for you then,” he implored so casually, you would think he was discussing the beautiful weather outside.
You sputtered in shock, your mouth seemingly at a loss for words. You looked at him as if he suggested that you walk out of the store without paying for the fur shawl. “That’s not what I meant, although I probably couldn’t afford this either,” you babbled like a nervous trainwreck. “What I’m saying is this is too nice for me. I’ll probably end up ruining it or losing it or-”
“Y/n,” he interrupted with a chuckle, finding your stammering and babbling to be way too cute. “Nothing is too high-quality for you. If anything, you’re too high-quality for the shawl.” He looked earnestly into your eyes as if you were the most valuable thing in the entire room.
You shuffled in your spot and were oddly touched by his kind words. In all honesty, no one had ever complimented you like that before. You cleared your throat that had suddenly gotten tight and flickered your gaze away for a moment. “Thank you, that’s kind of you to say,” you said, feeling the butterflies flutter around your stomach once more.
“Hey, I mean it. Besides…” He took the shawl from your hand and draped it over his arm. “Think of this as a thank you for your help so far. You’ve really been helpful in this expedition. I’m really glad that I got Jin to let you join us.”
You widened your eyes in surprise upon this revelation. This had never been disclosed to you before. In fact, you never questioned why exactly they let you come along. You knew that Jin said they needed someone to document the expedition, and you happened to be a journalist and were in possession of the tapestry. However, you never knew why they chose specifically you for the job.
“You convinced Jin to let me come along?” you echoed, your eyebrows shooting up your forehead.
Namjoon realized the information he confessed and was, for once, the one who was stumbling over his words. “I… um… well… you are a reporter… and I thought…” He then sighed in defeat, letting his head hang low in shame. He rubbed the back of his neck stiffly, wondering to himself how he was going to dig himself out of this hole. “I thought that it would be unfair to you if we robbed you of the last tie to your grandmother. I saw how excited you were to learn more about the piece of history that she managed to have possession of in your letters to me, and I thought it was too cruel to just deprive you of the satisfaction of achieving your goal. Jin thought it was too dangerous to let you join us, but I made up an excuse that we needed someone to take pictures and document the journey. That way you could join us.”
You took in his words and processed them over. So Namjoon was the whole reason you were here and not back in England. If he hadn’t felt compassion toward your cause of coming to India, you would have never met the boys. You would never have become friends with such amazing people, even if they teased you relentlessly. You would probably be writing a boring article about the latest fashion trend, instead of embarking on a journey that could change a whole nation.
You knew that anyone else in your position would be furious with him, but, for some reason, you were grateful to him. Something in your chest fluttered at this realization. “So, you’re the reason I’m here…” you concluded, feeling rather overwhelmed with all these emotions flooding over you.
Namjoon looked rather with ashamed of this confession. He cast his eyes to the ground, not bringing himself to meet your gaze. “I know… if I hadn’t convinced Jin, you wouldn’t have fallen down that hill, or nearly got shot, or be in this mess-”
You couldn’t hold yourself back anymore. Before you could stop your body, you closed the gap between the two of you and pressed your lips against his. The kiss was soft and gentle, and you felt your heart flutter ever-so-slightly in your chest. Namjoon froze for a few seconds before he melted into your kiss. His free hand cupped the side of your cheek, rubbing his thumb against the curve of your warm cheek. The fur shawl slipped off of his arm, long forgotten in the loving kiss you shared.
You pulled away and looked deep into his eyes, seeing the warm glimmer shine in them. You smiled lovingly at him and whispered, “Maybe so, but I would have never met you either.”
He shared your smile, and, for a moment, you thought you saw the beginnings of tears form in the corners of his eyes. He opened his mouth to reply to your sweet nothings, but was suddenly interrupted when you both heard, “Namjoon! Y/n!”
Jungkook. Of course he had to ruin your perfect moment. You and Namjoon quickly pulled away from each other, and you notice a slight shade of pink dust the historian’s cheeks. You couldn’t help but inwardly coo at how adorable he looked when he acted shy. Was this the reason why the boys were so insistent on getting you so flustered? If it was, you couldn’t exactly blame them anymore.
Jungkook quickly ran up to you two with a box in his arms. You assumed that pristine suits were what lay hidden inside them. One for each of the boys that were going to be accompanying you to the gala. “Did you find what you were looking for, y/n?” he asked, running a hand through his dark locks.
Snapped from your warm thoughts about the affectionate kiss from seconds ago, you stumbled over your words but finally managed to get out, “Oh! Right, um- yes, uh, I really like this one.” You practically shoved the dress on top of the box in Jungkook’s arms in your embarrassment. Dear Lord, you were so awkward sometimes!
Jungkook almost let the dress slip off the box but manage to grab it before it hit the ground and then tossed it back up on the box. “Alright, I’ll take this to Jin to pay for.” He then gave you and Namjoon a bold grin, as if he was ready to badger you both. “You can go back to making out again.” With that, he ran off with a little skip in his step.
Oh how you wanted to chuck something at the boy in that moment. You instantly wanted to protest to what Jungkook insinuated, but he was already gone before you could get a single word out of your lips. You huffed in frustration and pinched the bridge of your nose.
Namjoon chuckled at your annoyed grumbling and offered his hand to you once more. “How about we get out of here? We have a gala to get ready for.”
You stared at his hand for a few seconds, thinking over the plan to steal the kobae. Even if one thing went wrong, you could land yourselves in jail, or, even worse, end up dead. There was no turning back from this. After that night, you were officially deep in this expedition.
“Let’s go.” With that, you took his hand and enlaced your fingers with his before leaving Goldosa.
multiples of 10 for the character asks!!
Thanks Hannah! Answers will refer to my main character, Sahar, my tiefling wizard in a home Tal’Dorei game, but she’s away from the party rn since I’m DMing (our group rotates DMs between arcs). Other folks, if you want to hear more about some of my other characters, let me know! Sahar’s gotten the most playtime recently, but Keoren the halfling monk, Astara the aasimar cleric, Squall the water genasi druid, or Kallisto the minotar barbarian (among others) are all also fair game (some are less fleshed out than others) 10. If your character had time to pick up any artisan’s tools, game set, instrument, etc., what would it be? So this isn’t an actual instrument/mechanic in the game, and it’s never come up in game, but Sahar can sing. Like, really well. She grew up in a troupe of traveling entertainers and learned from a young age, but she stopped when her troupe died (onset of the Tragic Backstory phase, hit me up for more on this I’m an asshole to my characters) and hasn’t really sung in the last few years. She enjoys dragonchess (keeps her mind active). I think a piece of her would like to paint more (she’s proficient in forger’s tools, it’s just a different sort of art) or pick up the lute and start singing again, this time accompanying herself.
20. What is the biggest mistake your character has ever made? It’s hard to say whether the late teen years/early 20s spent as an assassin were a mistake since she really didn’t have a choice in the matter? I think at this point she’s starting to view the years she spent working for the Clasp after escaping her Tragic Backstory phase as a mistake. She didn’t have to stay in the life of crime, but she did and she’s not wholly sure how she feels about that? She’s not exactly a law and order gal, but her alignment has been shifting steadily from the neutral evil/True Neutral that she started at in the Tragic Backstory phase towards neutral good/chaotic good and I think she’s questioning whether or not she’s done more harm than good in her life and how she can make up for that. She also really really regrets leaving behind her baby sister in Ank’Harel when she left to try and find work but it’s been almost 10 years now... that’s a fun knife for a future DM rotation to stab me with.
30. What would most people think when they first see your character? Violently purple tieflings with blackwork partial sleeve tattoos and ice-blue eyes aren’t exactly a common sight in Tal’Dorei. And recently, she’s spent a lot of time in small towns that tend to be a little more judgmental and less cosmopolitan than the big cities. Fear, fascination, disgust, awe... all are fairly common reactions.
40. Where does your character feel the most at home? Sahar has never settled down in one place. She grew up a nomad, and the Tragic Backstory and her recovery from that left her living a very nomadic lifestyle with her two siblings (triplets!), and now she’s living on the road with her party. She feels most comfortable with a good book or some new spell she’s working on, a nice warm drink, and a cozy spot in an inn by the fire with a few friends. But anywhere with family, chosen or blood related, is home to her.
50. Who in the party would your character prioritize rescuing, in dire circumstances? That’s a tough one, because Sahar is developing Feelings for one party member but also feels like she has to be the Big Sister to our warlock... She’s also an intensely logical person so like, she’d probably go for whoever she thought had the best chance of helping her save as many people as possible. In a split second decision, it would depend on who she was closest to but I think a big piece of her would pull towards our party warlock since she reminds her of the baby sister she left behind.
60. What decision would the party have to make in order for your character to consider splitting off from the group? It wouldn’t be a single decision. She’s had some concerns about the amount of killing the party does, but at the same time she doesn’t want to leave folks with grudges out there because that’s a knife in the back waiting to happen... Anything in which children are harmed. If the party knowingly harms children, she’s out of there. 70. What is your character’s biggest pet peeve? People trying to talk to her when she’s ritual casting or absorbed in a problem. She likes to focus. Don’t distract her. 80. How does your character feel about receiving/giving orders? Are they more of a leader, or a follower? Prefers giving. Hates taking. She spent far too long taking orders under threat of torture or with the lives of her siblings held over her head, and she’s started to gain enough confidence to assert herself and she’s very aware she’s Smarter Than You. She’s a team player, but not a follower. Not anymore. She won’t let herself be. 90. Who is your character’s biggest rival? Her siblings Rhana and Zepar in the friendly rivalry sense. There’s some light competition between her and the other spellcasters in the party to do the most impressive shit, but that’s more in her head. And in a less friendly rivalry... she’s got a nemesis or two from her past she wouldn’t mind returning to the Dark Side to kill slowly and painfully.
100. What, currently, is your character the most curious about? So because of the structure of our group, rotating DMs, she’s split off from the group to do some research in Westruun on a puzzle cube the party nicked off the dead body of a hag they killed, so she’s pretty excited about that. She was a little too curious initially and almost opened a portal to the Hells and freaked out about that for about a week, but now that she’s in a safe place with other trained professionals, I think she’s gonna let that curiosity flow
Whoo! Sorry that’s so wordy that was fun! Thanks! (everyone go check out Hannah’s @drinkingdeadpeopletea sideblog it’s got some great critical role and naddpod content and some other cool shit and she’s a great human!)
Emo and Proud (Shinsou Hitoshi X Reader)
Summary: You decide to give Shinsou some music therapy by encouraging him to sing along with you to vent out your stress and some deeper feelings are revealed.
Hehe one of my headcanons is that Shinsou is a big-time MCR fan, in a way like Misty Day is a fan of Stevie Nicks from American Horror Story :3
BTW SORRY FOR ANY OOC-NESS!!
Featuring: Our Favorite Purple Boy!
You sighed as you finished watching Aggretsuko for the 10th time on your phone.
It was such a cute show even with it’s 15 minute episode runtime. That poor little adorable red panda; you wondered if you would ever end up like that someday since you were going to be a pro-hero someday, and it wasn’t exactly a glamorous job for everyone.
If there’s one thing that show taught you, it’s that music is one of the most life-saving outlets to vent out your emotions. And boy was that true, because your music was pretty much one of your sanctuaries that let you feel and express yourself whenever you sang to yourself or just let all your old nostalgia come back to you in the comfort of your room.
But it was time to pull an Aggretsuko and use the power of music to relieve the stress you had been feeling after the Joint Training and training in general. You knew being a hero would be hard work, but damn, your teacher was starting to look more like a slave-driver at this point.
Thankfully, somehow everyone had managed to catch a break since nothing was really going on… yet at least. And to salvage this break, you secluded yourself from your friends, as much as you loved them, sometimes you needed some alone time.
So, you politely declined their invite to the arcade and stood behind in the dorms. Once you were sure that most of them were gone, you set up a TV you had brought since you couldn’t live without a large-enough television and for the movie nights for weekends.
You hooked it up to your phone and grabbed a brush to act as a makeshift microphone from your room and played up an old nostalgic song from the singer who rose up yet again. It’s a good thing nobody was here, because you were really rocking out and banging your head with the guitar solo. Not that you would have cared, but you didn’t care for some of the remarks you would get, especially from that jackass Bakugou or that snarky chick Jirou.
“Try to tell me what I shouldn’t do.You should know by now, I won’t listen to you. Walk around with my hands up in the air, ‘cause I don’t care… ‘Cause I’m alright, I’m fine! Just freak out let it go!”
Dancing a little bit and raising your fist, you sang as loud as you could and really let yourself cut loose, so much that you were oblivious to someone entering the room who had taken the time to pause and stare at you as you danced.
“I’m gonna live my life, I can’t ever run and hide I won’t compromise ‘cause I’ll never know. I’m gonna close my eyes, I can’t watch the time go by. I won’t keep it inside! Freak out let it go! Just freak out let it go!”
You were flailing your arms about, flipping your (H/L) hair as much as you could, shaking your butt as you pumped your fists to get back in tune with your inner Avril. The music was so loud you couldn’t hear the very quiet snickers coming from your audience.
“Gonna freak out let it go! Gonna freak out let it go!”
Banging your head as the final riff ended you threw your arms up vigorously, “WHOO!” You shouted, turning around with a big grin that dramatically and comically fell as soon as you saw the person you had no idea had been watching you just about the whole time…
“OH GOD! H-Hitoshi!!”
Wild purple hair and all, beautiful, tired purple eyes gleaming with such amusement as his lips were lined with a smirk. He slowly brought his hands up to give you a deliberately slow clap.
“Impressive…” Shinsou finally spoke up, his tone sounding casual and low-key as possible but you knew that this was clearly extremely amusing to him as your face involuntarily grew hot.
“How much of that did you hear… and see…?” You shouldn’t have asked that, but you were curious.
“Everything from ‘Try to tell me what I shouldn’t do’.” He answered you and you sighed a bit, shrugging your shoulders with your hands up in defeat.
“I didn’t think anyone else would be here… sometimes you just need time to yourself ya know?” Sighing, you almost felt embarrassed. Shinsou wasn’t even in your class at the beginning and yet you befriended him during the Sports Festival a LOT quicker than you did your own classmates. It all started when you asked for him to be on your team, which shocked the hell out of him since he didn’t even have to brainwash you like he did Ojiro and Aoyama. And from then, you two just clicked and stood in touch.
“I know. That’s why I didn’t go with the rest of the others.” He agreed with your sentiment, which made you actually kind of happy.
Shinsou was a complete introvert, and yet you managed to get through to him due to similar interests in music, especially when you discussed how the two of you were ‘permanently stuck in your emo phases’. And then you knew about his fondness for cats, which you found extremely adorable since you had a soft spot for cats yourself.
Finally, there was your quirks, and you knew all about the prejudice he got from people simply because his Brainwashing quirk gave him the ability to control people. You had gotten somewhat similar flak for your quirk since your quirk also allowed you to control people, except you had control over their bodies and not their minds.
Emo birds of a feather gloomed and listened to MCR together.
The more you two talked, the closer you became. Which is why you were overjoyed when he started training with Aizawa and finally got into the Hero Course with you and your friends.
But the problem was… now that you were closer to him, you had fallen almost hopelessly in love with him. And now you just embarrassed yourself in front of him even though the plan was to have some time for yourself. However, because you liked Shinsou so much, it was always okay for him to be around you; you could relate to him and you never wanted him to feel like he couldn’t be around you.
“Well hey. We can be alone together… you’re one of the very few people who don’t annoy me. And EVERYONE annoys me.” You smiled at him, and he couldn’t help but smile back at you.
“I can say the exact same thing about you.” Shinsou said as he took a seat on the couch, sighing heavily as you frowned a bit and went over to him. He’d been working extra hard since Aizawa took him under his wing, you were sure that he must have been exhausted.
“Dude you need to relax…” You said, setting your brush down and placing your hands on his shoulders that made him freeze ever so slightly from the unexpected touch. But he wouldn’t ever make himself appear flustered in front of you so he kept his cool.
“It’s not easy to relax when you’re constantly working… even on break-days like these…” He muttered a bit as you started to massage his shoulders a bit.
“Yeah but you can still try! You work too hard man… Aizawa’s really been kicking your ass ever since he took you up… I mean yeah it’s awesome that you’re with us now but you need a goddamn break dude…” You said gently despite your language, digging into his shoulder blades as he grunted a bit but then sighed quietly in content with how good your fingers felt on his sore muscles. Muscles he’d been growing ever since he started training that is…
“I might just sleep or something… that’s a smart way to take a break.” He said, but you immediately shut that idea down.
“Ugh, you’re training WITH Aizawa, not training to BE Aizawa, Hitoshi. Sleeping is great, but you know what else is great? Singing~.” You sang that to get your point across but that just served to irk the purple-haired boy even as he let out a small groan when you got another sore spot that helped him ease up a little bit.
He sighed again, “I don’t sing… I’m probably not even good at it…”
“I’m not good at it but I still do it! You ain’t gotta be good at singing to do it, it’s just fun! Plus you get to vent out everything in the lyrics of awesome songs! Avril Lavigne, Evanescence, Good Charlotte, Three Days Grace, Simple Plan, My Chemical Romance!” You exclaimed and listed out some of the many singers that you enjoyed during your emo phase and STILL enjoyed.
Shinsou didn’t flinch, but hearing those names nearly made him perk up since he DID like all of those groups and singers. Especially My Chemical Romance…
“I mean those guys defined our childhood and shaped up the emo phase that we grew up with and loved because we just didn’t give a fuck about anything and just sang the loser anthems that spoke of our existences at the time… It was a time to be alive because it allowed us to say ‘I am emo and I am proud’.” You somewhat dramatically explained and Shinsou gave you a look when you stopped massaging his shoulders and started talking nonsense.
“It’s who we are Hitoshi! We have all these feelings that we need to vent out! And remind people of the times we grew up in! Say it with me! I am emo and I am proud!” You threw your fist in the air, and naturally Shinsou didn’t follow you as he just stared at you.
”Did you watch Aggretsuko again?” He knew you loved singing, but he had a feeling that one of your favorite modern cartoons had something to do with this little idea of ours.
“Yes… yes I have…” You replied to him rather nonchalantly.
“You watch way too much cartoons…” He shook his head, trying his hardest to not smile or snicker at how stupid you sounded.
“Cartoons also defined my childhood because sometimes you needed a break from your emo phase bro… but my point is… just try it. I sang my heart out to Avril and I already feel a ton better! Aggretsuko teaches that and it’s an excellent lesson!’” You threw your hands up cheerfully, but Shinsou just stared at you with his deadpan look.
“Okay, you must have me confused with someone who does embarrassing things without a care in the world.” He snarked, trying to not show that this kinda thing made him feel a little… nervous. Especially with you here. He wasn’t ready to embarrass himself in front of you, not after you had to watch him lose to Midoriya in the Sports Fest.
And he nearly jumped when you suddenly put your arm around him. “Tosh… it’s ME. You know I’d never judge you. I mean you don’t have to… but I’m sure you’d be awesome at it… you’ve sung a few of your emo phase songs to yourself with the door closed whenever you got in one of those ‘fuck the world’ moods haven’t you?” You softly reassured him, giving him a choice even as you asked him a question.
Shinsou willed himself to not blush with how close you were and how you touched him like that, instead focusing on your words as he looked somewhat defeated. “Yes…”
He gave a heavy sigh. As much as he didn’t entirely want to, he couldn’t say no to you, especially when you were trying to just help him relax. Shinsou would only EVER sing for you.
“Okay… I’ll do one. But you’re not allowed to laugh.” Shinsou finally and reluctantly complied and you practically screamed from joy.
“YES!!! Let’s get out Emo on!” You hugged him suddenly , doing a bit of a dance when you finally got your wallflower friend to try this out with you.
So you gladly grabbed your phone to start looking up a selection of songs, as Shinsou sighed again, unable to believe that he was actually doing this. Well, he trusted you, and generally had fun whenever he did things with you. And although you were more energetic than he was at times, he didn’t mind. He enjoyed that you had more zest than he did.
“All right! Here’s one! Take it Toshi!” You suddenly tossed him your hairbrush, and he quickly caught it, giving you a look afterward.
“(Y/N)…” Shinsou was beginning to feel a bit of nerves even though he shouldn’t have, but it got worse when he saw the song you chose.
This was one of his FAVORITE songs.
“No I can’t… I can’t do Gerard any justice…” He muttered a bit self-consciously, but you just shook your head.
“Yes you can! No one’s a bigger fan of Gerard than you are! Now go on! I’m with ya Toshi!” You smiled wide at him to ease him up, and you took the floor when the song immediately started up
“Long ago, just like the hearse, you die to get in again… we are so far from you…”
Deliberately, you whispered that last part to imitate how the song went, and looked right at Shinsou to cue him to go next. He appeared unsure for a bit, until he took a quick breath.
“Burning on, just like a match you strike to incinerate… the lives of everyone you know! And what’s the worst you take from every heart you break… And like a blade you stain, well, I’ve been holding on tonight…!”
You nearly jumped as soon as THAT voice came out of Shinsou’s mouth. So much energy and passion as he became MUCH more expressive as he sang the song. His singing voice a lot louder and emotional than his speaking one, and yet there was something haunting and tortured about his voice too. It was beautiful…
However, Shinsou suddenly became more adorable in your eyes as he clutched the hairbrush close to him as he sung and and waved his arm about, as if to follow the way Gerard moved and sung in the music video.
As he sung, at that moment he remembered that you were here as soon as he saw your wide (E/C) eyes and agape mouth. You saw his cheeks beginning to redden as he nearly halted in the verse but you shook your head vigorously, wanting to encourage him to keep going!
“What’s the worst that I could say?”
“Things are better if I stay! So long and goodnight, So long and goodnight~!“
You jumped in, singing the first part before bringing your hairbrush over to Shinsou, and he gladly sang the rest along with you. Although you had to whoop when Shinsou got into it, running a hand through his wild hair and following Gerard’s every move from the video.
Crazy, passionate expression and everything and making the same hand gestures and you couldn’t help but dance just as wild as the dancers did and some air guitar, following Shinsou’s rhythm.
“Came a time when every star fall brought you to tears again… we are the very hurt you sold. And what’s the worst you take from every heart you break… And like a blade you stain, well, I’ve been holding on tonight…!”
“What’s the worst that I could say? Things are better if I stay! So long and goodnight, So long and goodnight~! Well, if you carry on this way, things are better if I stay… So long and goodnight, So long and goodnight…!”
Encouraged, by your enthusiasm, Shinsou got on his knees as he sung the chorus with the loudest voice you had ever heard from him. Although he stood back up a little dramatically when the last bridge came.
He took your hand gently, pulling you in closer as he continued to sing, in a softer, almost whispery voice.
“Can you hear me…?”
“Are you near me…?”
Shinsou looked you right in the eyes, purple eyes luring your (E/C) eyes in an almost intimate moment as your cheeks flushed pink. It felt like this was just for you, and Shinsou made sure of it as he gently pressed his forehead against yours. Silently telling you that this was for you, and that only you could see him bear his soul like this.
You quietly gasped, for a moment you nearly felt like you were in his control because of how his voice just captivated you. But feeling extremely relaxed and yet fluttery with joy as you giggled a bit. When he pulled away, you saw his own face become bashfully flushed as you grinned when he started to sing again.
“Can we pretend to leave and then…”
“We’ll meet again, when both our cars collide!”
While Shinsou sung, you followed his lead, widening your eyes dramatically and pretending to fall backwards like the girl in the video as the chorus came.
“What’s the worst that I could say? Things are better if I stay! So long and goodnight, So long and goodnight~! Well, if you carry on this way, things are better if I stay…So long and goodnight, So long and goodnight…!”
Feeling more invigorated than ever before, Shinsou sang the chorus a little louder, yet still on-key as put his hand over his heart and bore the rest of his soul out.
And when he finished the song, he promptly dropped your hairbrush and you threw both your hands up in the air. “WHOOOO!! That’s my Toshi!” You practically screamed, almost like a fangirl as you quickly threw yourself into him, hugging him tightly and jumping a little bit as Shinsou’s eyes grew slightly wide and he felt his face heating up a bit. He was confident during the song, but now his bashfulness came back.
“That was AWESOME! I didn’t even know you could sing!”
Shinsou really hated his pale skin sometimes, because now he couldn’t hide how much he was blushing from all of your praise.
“I don’t do it much… just in private… I don’t think I’m that good…” He normally wasn’t timid, but you were complimenting him so much and he wasn’t used to that kind of praise. He liked it a lot though, it just made him feel kind of nervous, and yet validated.
“Well you freakin’ ROCKED dude! You totally did Gerard justice!” You continued the compliments, adoring just how red Shinsou was turning as he rubbed the back of his neck and coyly grinned.
“You’re just saying that…” He mumbled a little bit, and for once he flinched when he felt lips pecking his already hot cheek as you giggled and blushed, shaking your head.
“Nope! I mean it… and… I mean it when I say this but… Hitoshi… I think… no… I know… I uh… I like you… not even that… I like-like you…” There you said it, you finally admitted your feelings for the guy. You were a little unsure, but that song and seeing him unleash the soul you fell in love with just brought out the rest of your feelings for him.
Shinsou was taken by surprise. Nothing fazed him that much, but for once he was taken aback, his purple eyes wide and his expression that one of surprise and disbelief. He’s NEVER had this happen to him before. No one’s ever like-liked him before.
“W-What?” He didn’t mean to stutter, but he couldn’t really help it.
“Hee-hee… I’m in love with you…” Giggling shyly, your cheeks began to darken, “Don’t make me say it again, my heart’s like, beating out of my chest…” You shyly said, and although Shinsou was still blushing, he started to smirk a little bit when he saw just how flushed you were. He knew you weren’t lying, but he was still amazed that SOMEONE actually like-liked him. And yet he was also overjoyed that someone he felt close to and actually liked, like-liked him. And if he was being honest, he like-liked you too.
“Well... I actually like-like you too... you’re the only person I think I completely trust.” He admitted, still giving you his little smile. Shinsou wasn’t lying, he’d never show anyone what a dork he could be, except for you. Because you were just as big an emo dork as he was. You were his dork, and he was your dork.
Your eyes went huge and you blushed heavily when he... reciprocated your feelings?! Was this for real? It had to be. Shinsou never lied to you, he layed jokes on you sometimes, but this wasn’t one of them...
“For real...?”
“Yes. You’re a complete dork. But... you’re my dork.” Shinsou finally admitted, it wouldn’t be a common thing, but he had to get that across to you just so you wouldn’t faint from how red you were. And he almost jumped when you screamed and hugged him again, very much like a fangirl almost.
“AHHHH! You know it! And you’re MY dork too!” You happily exclaimed, hugging him tightly as Shinsou sighed a little bit, but found it in him to hug you back with a little smile.
He’d never say it to anyone, but he loved his dork.
~~~Bonus Ending~~~
"We are not alone..." You suddenly perked up where you hugged Shinsou, and he sensed that too. Somebody else was around, and probably eavesdropping on the two of you. "I think I know who." He said lowly, albeit he wasn't entirely bothered; he wasn't happy, but he wasn't bothered either since this person was your friend.
"Ohhhh..." Giggling, you figured out who it was based on that alone. "Hey! Tokoyami! Come out dude I know you're hiding back there." You blatantly called him out, but of course Tokoyami himself didn't reply from the corner.
"No we're not!" Dark Shadow replied for him, and you could hear Tokoyami's annoyed, deep sigh.
"My apologies. It wasn't my intention to eavesdrop..." The crow-headed boy slowly came out of hiding as you waved to him, while Shinsou looked mildly annoyed, having assumed that you were his only audience.
"Oh really? Heh... let me guess... did you hear the song?" You raised a brow, as much as you could at least and Tokoyami looked downwards, almost as if he were a little embarrassed even though you knew he had the same tastes in music you and Shinsou did.
"Yes... I did. It was very impressive. Like Gerard Way was reawakened from his slumber." He somewhat dramatically said as you smiled wide and giggled, patting Shinsou on the back happily. "I know right?! See Tosh! You're AWESOME! And Tokoyami here is one of us! Let's let him hang with us!" You cheerfully suggested, which just annoyed Shinsou even more. However, Tokoyami was pretty harmless and didn't seem to have a thing for you. Even if he did, it was too late because you were his now.
"Okay. I don't see the harm." Shinsou shrugged his shoulders as you happily clapped your hands. "Ahaha! Tokoyami! Hope ya don't mind singing!" That made the similarly emo boy perk up ever so slightly. He didn't plan on singing...
"I'm not a singer." Tokoyami quickly replied. Much like Shinsou, he wasn't entirely willing to show off because he doubted his abilities, but you weren't going to let him feel so insecure as you started the next song.
"You will be!" You smirked, winking at Shinsou as you immediately started to sing the first lyrics. A song you knew no true emo like Tokoyami could ever resist.
"Oh, well imagine, as I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor and I can't help but to hear. No, I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words~."
You got into it and picked your head up as soon as you sang the first part, running a hand through hair as you sang in your hairbrush, not so subtly flirting with Shinsou as he couldn't help but smirk as you gave him your brush to let him take the next part.
"What a beautiful wedding! What a beautiful wedding, says a bridesmaid to a waiter, and, yes, but what a shame, what a shame the poor groom's bride is a whore."
Shinsou gladly sung, which surprised you a little bit because he was more comfortable when it was only you. And he was, but he knew that you and Tokoyami were just friends, even if the guy liked you it was too late. You were all his now. Still, he would let the fellow emo join in since he was very like-minded and wouldn't judge you both. However, you both just made him feel a little nervous, it didn't help when you gave him the hairbrush...
But Tokoyami knew this song by heart. Every lyric, every rhythm...
He couldn't help it.
"I chime in with a 'Haven't you people ever heard of closing the goddamn door?' No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality!”
Now you and Shinsou were shocked, both of your eyes growing wide when the ever-so-stoic, dark prince-y bird boy Tokoyami, of ALL people, actually singing with an almost uncharacteristic enthusiasm as he held onto the hairbrush you gave him and sung into it.
But you couldn't help but smile wide, glancing at Shinsou as he shrugged with a small smile. The bird was shocking pretty good too. Might as well join in.
"I chime in with a 'Haven't you people ever heard of closing the goddamn door?!' No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of... poise and rationality! Again..."
Following Tokoyami's lead, you and Shinsou acted as his back-up singers by singing the chorus with him and you provided the crazy dances as the three of you vigorously rocked out.
Emo and proud.
~~~Extra Bonus Ending~~~
Meanwhile downstairs...
"Man it sounds like they're having fun up there..." Kirishima and the rest of the 'Bakusquad' had returned to Heights Alliance early, and you had pretty much put your music on full blast once you hooked it up to the TV. And didn't count on anyone coming back so quick...
"I kinda wanna go up and join em!" Kaminari was getting into the music he was hearing through the walls. "YEAH! Let's go and party with those guys!" Mina would never say no to cutting lose and dancing to awesome music.
"I'm sure (Y/N) will let us. Most of us..." Sero shrugged his shoulders with his casual smile, having known you fairly well but he wasn't so sure you would let ALL of them hang out since you and Bakugou never really entirely got along.
"Amateurs..." Bakugou muttered under his breath as he marched upstairs to go to the floor you were occupying. You were being WAY too damn loud, but at that moment he decided he'd show you how a REAL singer sings My Chemical Romance.
The Miys, Ch. 28
At this point, I am dying to hear any theories about who is behind the sabotage, the spiked food, everything. Some people have already come to me with theories, and I’ve outright denied a few but cannot confirm or deny any others... after all, that would give away the game, right?
Six hours later, I was reviewing the lunch menu Arantxa put together for the next day, but my mind was completely somewhere else. I had gotten permission from Xiomara to give the almost full, mostly unadulterated truth to the entire ship; while she acknowledged it would have an impact on the investigation, the greater concern was the possibility for wild speculation once word inevitably leaked from those on Level One when speaking to their loved ones. As the adage went “Three can keep a secret if two of them are dead,” and we had right at one hundred people on Level One. In the end, the identities of the suspects already in custody was the only thing we kept back.
I was startled as a hand waved between my face and my data screen. “Sophia? Are you okay? You’ve been staring at the same thing for five minutes. I admit to being a fan of spanakopita, but it isn’t that interesting,” Arantxa asked, concerned.
Shaking my head to clear it, I noticed my sister had left without my even noticing. “Where’d Tyche go?” I asked instead of responding.
“She went to check on our boys and get some food. You didn’t answer her when she asked what you wanted, so she said she would just bring something back for you. What’s wrong?” she insisted.
“Everything’s just kind of getting to me,” I admitted. “I’m disturbed by the idea that someone would sabotage us, let alone the fact that they kept up after the initial attempt failed. We’re basically all that’s left of the human race; Simon and Miys as much as told me that when I first woke up here. Those still on Earth won’t survive more than a couple more generations.”
“We got lucky,” she urged softly, patting my arm. “No one could have anticipated that we would have so many pilots on board, much less one certified to for interstellar flight.”
“Thankfully,” I admitted. “The only people who really had access to that were myself, you, Tyche, and Grey, apparently. And I know I certainly never checked it. Why would I? Miys had the flight under control, and at light speed everything is basically on autopilot.” I flicked my wrist, giving up on the menu and dismissing my data screen before tapping the tabletop. “The pilots are another thing. Forty reported out of fifty-three. Xiomara let me know that one has an unshakeable alibi, but that still leaves twelve who are suspects. The motive couldn’t be to put our pilots in the spotlight, because none of them showed up to when asked to report.”
“Maybe they were sabotaged, too?” she suggested. “By one or more of the pilots who did report?”
I shook my head. “I’m not a cop by any means, but that doesn’t even make sense to me. If they were trying to highlight Terran pilots as superior, why drug everyone? The only pilot who wasn’t affected was Maverick, but it was because he has severe, documented food aversions, even back on Earth. On top of that, he is the first to admit he can’t fly this alone, even as the most qualified.”
“I know you trust him, but something still doesn’t feel right,” she replied. “If you trust him, I’ll trust you. But it is too coincidental for me, I’m sorry.”
I really could not blame her for being suspicious. Then again, as far as I was aware, everyone was a suspect. Xiomara was being close-lipped about the entire thing, to the point of near-hostility if you did not know she was on edge. Part of me could sympathize: migraines don’t just vanish because you figure out the source, and seven hours was nowhere near enough time to let the medicine fade from our systems. We were both still limping along on analgesics and coffee, while avoiding each other as much as possible so our tentative friendship would not suffer from our shortened tempers.
“Cheer me up,” I sighed. “Tell me you have updates from outside? I haven’t been able to bring myself to contact anyone with this,” I gestured vaguely at my head. “Plus, my glasses are in my quarters, so there’s only so much screen time I can handle.”
She broke into a grin. “I talked to Conor last night! We rescheduled our date, and he told me that Huynh made him point on the diving and research platforms. It turns out that all that time he spends in the aeroponics lab has engendered good will with the technicians and researchers. They requested him, specifically.”
“Good for him!” I cried, immediately shooting a hand up to my head in regret. “Dammit,” I muttered. “This profoundly sucks. I can’t even be excited for my friends. Still, I’m happy for him and glad you two were able to reschedule your date. He does know it’s a date, right?”
“Yes, finally,” she groaned. “I was very specific to ask if we could reschedule our date due to the circumstances. He was flustered, but he did say that he would gladly go on a date with me anytime once all this is over.”
“Whoo!” I whispered, trying not to set off room-spins again. “That’s so amazing. I’m so happy for you two!”
After some good-natured ribbing, we both got back to work finalizing the menu for the next day so that would be out of the way. Arantxa quickly picked up the concept of choosing themes that revolved around non-cultural ideas when looking for crowd-pleasers, along with when to break the rules – dietary restrictions, foods that didn’t match the theme but everyone liked and wouldn’t care, etc. Lunch ended up being multicultural flatbreads and fillings, somewhat matching breakfast. Small finger foods and sweets for a ‘brunch’ snack and for afternoon ‘tea’, rounded out by a dinner of pasta dishes, soups, and salads.
As we were arguing the finer points of a Niçoise – she preferred it with salmon, I insisted it needed anchovies – Grey sat down and looked between us curiously. “Is it so important which fish is on this salad?” they asked curiously, blinking in an effort to focus.
The two of us who had just been arguing looked at each other and started giggling. “No not really,” I explained. “Traditionally, it should have anchovies. However, it’s really common for people to not like anchovies, so other fish does get substituted often. Really, we could just put the fish on the side and let people choose, so let’s do that,” I suggested, to which Arantxa nodded, still giggling. Turning back to Grey, I asked “What’s up, Grey?”
“I merely wanted to check on how everyone is handling the recent revelation,” they stated in their usual, overly-formal way.
“It’s good to know you care,” I smiled widely. “I think we’ll be okay, medically. Most of it is just worry regarding who is doing all this. Did you ever get the information on who accessed the consoles to cover up getting into the storage room?”
“I have, but that is all I can tell you,” they confirmed. “The data is under review, and any details will come directly to myself, Pranav, and Xiomara.”
“Even Zach and Derek?” Arantxa asked, brows furrowed. “They’ve been relaying it through me so far, since you three have been so busy, and Derek’s not familiar with any of you.”
“Fortunately for Mr. Khan and Mr. Okafor, they are not needed on this,” Grey advised. “Right now, the people handling the data are reviewing huge access logs and looking for patterns, not something the other two are particularly suited for. But even if they were, we would make accommodations for Mr. Okafor, likely he would simply send the information from his data screen to mine, no personal interaction needed.”
“So, you’re just going to cut them out of all this?” I asked, surprised. “They found the lead in the first place. That’s not really fair.”
“While the concept of ‘fair’ has little to do with the situation, fortunately it is a non-issue. Mr. Okafor, through Mr. Khan, advised he has no desire to, quote, ‘dig for needles in haystacks’, and Mr. Khan voiced a similar preference. Right now, Mr. Okafor would prefer to recuperate from so much time around people, so Councillor Huynh has sectioned off a small corner of one of the sleeping areas for him to have privacy.”
Arantxa still looked indignant, but I could understand completely. After three days of people, I was running on fumes and caffeine myself. “I’ll send him a message to avoid feeding Mac any cheese. The little fluff-nugget cries like he’s dying if he isn’t given any, but it really constipates him something fierce, and Derek always gives in,” I explained. “Maybe I’ll just tell Zach not to give either of them cheese. Derek couldn’t care either way about it. How about the mining mission? Any updates there?”
Grey shook their head. “Not anything substantial. We are in orbit around Meenie, and the first cores have come back. There is a slightly higher ferrous concentration in the rock here, so that indicates positive results, but that is all we have right now.”
“It’s still something,” I reassured them. “Although I do have a question, and you don’t have to answer if it is stupid, but I’m really curious. These core samples – how are we expected to get anything substantial from them? I always thought core samples were really small.”
“The size depends on what you are taking a sample from,” they explained, not unkindly. “For fossils and trees, yes, the core samples are too small to be of much use. However, the samples we are taking are on a scale with old ice cores taken from polar sheets: they are nearly a meter wide and four hundred meters in length.”
I did a rough conversion in my head. “These things are three feet wide and a thousand feet long?” I let out a low whistle. “Okay, question withdrawn, those are huge.”
“Closer to thirteen hundred feet in length, but yes, they are rather substantial,” Grey confirmed. “Very trace amounts of any exotic elements, but substantial amounts of carbon and silica. As I said, Meenie has more iron, and also has more aluminum, but still not in the quantities we would like to see.”
“At least we are finding more iron,” I reassured them. “You were bothered by that on Eenie, so as small of a victory as it is, it still counts.”
“I agree,” they nodded. “We seem to need all the victories we can obtain at the current moment.” Standing, they smoothed their tunic. “I apologize for interrupting your work, and I will let you return to it. Have a good day, ladies.”
After waving goodbye to Grey, I turned back to Arantxa to find her eyebrows were still tight. “Hey, what’s the matter? We got some good news. Granted, it’s a little, but it’s something.”
She turned to me, her face relaxing. “I’m sorry. There is a lot of intrigue going on, and I do not like it,” she sniffed disdainfully before frowning again.
I had to suppress a laugh – Arantxa was one of the most straightforward people I had ever met, so all the secrets would understandably be driving her crazy. Instead, I tried to put her more at ease. “Try to bear in mind: a very important piece of evidence just had to be broadcast to the entire ship, potentially causing a panic. Unfortunately, it was either it come from the Council and assure everyone their loved ones up here are safe and measures are being taken, or let it leak and lead to wildfire speculation. Chances are, they are just trying to be careful with any other information regarding the ongoing search for a saboteur or saboteurs so we don’t teach them to cover their tracks better.”
She groaned and leaned back in her chair, rubbing her face with both hands. “I can understand that, but you are a part of the Council just as much as they are. I do not like that they are keeping information from other Councillors; that is how factions and political parties start.” She moved her hands to give me a pointed look.
“Yeah, I know,” I conceded. “But at the end of the day, there is no professional reason for me to know what is going on. The only reason anyone on the Council is involved is because of a severe oversight in establishing any sort of police force. We, all ten thousand of us, were pretty reckless in believing we would not need one. ‘Best of humanity’ and all that, we never expected to need to enforce peace. Especially not when we were just pulled off a planet that bombed itself back to three hundred years.” I shook my head ruefully at the thought.
“We didn’t bomb ourselves back,” Arantxa pointed out. “A bunch of insane extremists bent on striking against the rich capitalists went too far and took the rest of us along as collateral damage.”
“They were still humans,” I counter-argued. “If we plan on making the most of the chance we are being given to start again, it can’t start with ‘us’ and ‘them’ rhetoric. When I was a little girl, I grew up learning about ‘them’: Nazi Germany, the Spanish Inquisition, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, ISIS. And at the
exact same time
, I had to watch ‘us’ do the
exact same things
to immigrants, to peaceful Muslims, to transgender people. The fact is, the only ‘us’ is humanity, and if
we
don’t learn from
our
mistakes, we are going to keep making them. We didn’t learn in time to prevent the End of the World, but maybe we can learn that in time to keep from ending ourselves for good.”
Press Conference Part 4
Part 4 of my collab fic with @hargreevesstyles featuring allergic Klaus snz and Luther snz!!!!
Twenty minutes later, Klaus sauntered into the break room, looking very disheveled, yet very content.
“Klaus, where the hell have you been?” Diego demanded.
Klaus just winked at him and sat back down in his spot on the couch next to Luther, and leaned back with his legs spread far apart. Diego got his answer when Maya came in from the other door with her hair down and her blouse no longer tucked into her skirt. But still smiling from ear to ear.
“Sorry about the delay! Technical difficulties.” She cleared her throat; did her voice sound a little hoarse? “Okay, Vanya, you’re up next! Are you ready?”
The smallest Hargreeves nodded and wordlessly followed her out of the room.
“Whoo!” Klaus leaned back in his chair. “That was a -hih!-hihh’enNGTshiehh! snf! That was a good interview!”
Luther turned to face Klaus. “What the hell took you so long?” He demanded.
Alison scoffed, “Isn’t it obvious. He fucked her!”
“Hey! Watch your crude language! We m-hih! HhheNXTshyuu! Hh’nkgt-n’kt! We made love,” Klaus grinned, earning a high five from Diego.
“Whatever you did you reek of her perfume, can you please move over there?”
Klaus joked, “If I have to suffer then you have to suffer with me.”
“You’re the one who made the conscious decision to fuck her! I don’t want her or that perfume anywhere near me!” Luther was beginning to get pissed off with his brother again. He knew how badly this stupid perfume was affecting the both of them yet he went out of his way to get coated in it.
Allison said, “Seriously, Klaus, out of all of the girls here you decided to fuck the one covered in perfume?”
“There were some cute boys here too, might have to take another break with one of them. There was a really cute brunette working the coffee station,” Klaus noted. He ripped a tissue out of the box on the table and stifled five sneezes into it. He groaned afterward. “This sucks.”
Luther snapped, “You don’t get to complain! You put this on yourself, now can you please move away from me like I asked you to!”
“But I’m so comfy-”
“Jesus fucking Christ, I’ll move then-”
Suddenly, Allison’s voice interrupted him. “Klaus, I heard a rumor, that you really want to sit on the other side of the room and stop antagonizing Luther.”
Klaus’ eyes washed blue and he stood up wordlessly, moving himself to a chair far away from Luther. He seemed to have nothing to say now.
“Hh’eNGXTshiew! HhhiNGK’shuh!” Luther sneezed into his elbow. He was running out of tissues from Allison’s travel pack and he really didn’t want to deal with any flack from Klaus if he had to take some from his box. Although, Klaus had offered them kindly earlier when they were waiting outside.
Part of him wanted to be annoyed with Klaus just because that’s what he was used to during his whole entire childhood, but he understood Klaus more now. Luther didn’t feel as far away from Number Four as he used to when they were kids. He couldn’t say the same for Klaus, but he thought there was at least some level of it between the two of them. They seemed to be on opposite teams, growing up. Klaus went against anything and everything that Reginald said, and Luther took every word that came from their dear old dad to heart.
It was no wonder they were so different several years later. Still, there were odd things that made them the same. Like how they were both allergic to the same perfume and other oddities of the sort.
Luther was pulled out of his thoughts by the sound of Klaus sneezing again. Luther was better off because he had been without Maya for quite a while and the leftover perfume on Klaus wasn’t enough to give him too bad of a tickle, but he was still irritated. He could feel the congestion in his head thicken, the pressure was still getting worse. His head also hurt from how strong the perfume was, it was overly floral and Luther could feel the chemicals fuzzing up his brain.
The twenty minutes for Vanya’s interview felt like an hour to him, but to the others, it felt like five minutes.
But no, it had taken exactly twenty minutes for Vanya and Maya to return, only for Maya to beckon them back to the big set. Luther was complaining about his headache to Allison when Klaus overheard.
Klaus didn’t have a headache. He was high enough that every sneeze felt a little better than normal but he wasn’t feeling the other symptoms yet. He didn’t mind the congestion and he loved how relieved he felt when he blew his nose.
“Hihihh'engtshieww! God, don’t you guys just love sneezing?” He asked. He had popped another pill while no one was paying attention in the break room. “It feels so good to just get it out of your body.”
Luther rolled his eyes. “Only you would say that right now.”
“I’m serious! Just…gasping for breath and some sort of relief and you literally lose control as it comes out of you. Yeah, it can get a little annoying but it just feels so satisfying and boy am I one for satisfaction,” Klaus ranted.
Over in the middle, Vanya looked uncomfortable as ever. She had her head down and she was trying her hardest not to listen to her brother talk about the thing she was most attracted to. And Luther looked agitated. He hated sneezing, and not just because it often made his congestion worse rather than giving him any sort of relief. From his perspective, not only was it a moment of weakness, but it was a temporary loss of control over his body which, given his abilities, gave him a lot of anxiety.
“Why have you two been sneezing so much? The pollen’s not too bad around here,” Maya asked.
Diego rolled his eyes at her ignorance. “It’s your fuckin’ perfume!” He spoke firmly.
Klaus gasped. “Is it? I had no idea!” He lied through his teeth.
Maya had a delayed reaction. She brought her hands up to her mouth. “Is that why you’ve been sneezing more when you’re closer to me? Oh my god! That’s so funny, I can’t believe it. Who would’ve thought!”
“Is she–are you fuckin’ serious right now?” Diego asked. “You did not notice at all? Nothing seemed a little odd to you?”
“Diego’s right, how could you have missed that? It’s not like your perfume isn’t noticeable?” Allison’s voice had a dark tone. She was very angry.
Luther begged, “Please, Allison, let it go. It’s okay. We’ll be fine, let’s just wrap this up so we can all–hih! Hh’eTSHiew! Hhhn’gxt–go home.”
At this, Allison rolled her eyes but stayed silent. Diego scoffed a bit at how easy it was to dissuade her. “Wow.”
“Diego, it’s okay,” Klaus said. He gave Diego a calming look and a small nod toward the camera.
Surprisingly, Diego took it well. He cooled off. He most likely knew that the cameras were rolling and everything he said was being captured. Ever since a young age when The Umbrella Academy had first started, Reginald had always taught them to be poised and professional on camera. They had to hide emotions after missions when they were featured on the news. They had to keep themselves contained when Five disappeared, and when Ben died. They were always in the public’s eye and they knew when to draw the line.
“I’m sorry, I was really distracted, I was so starstruck. I didn’t even think about it,” Maya said, sounding sincere for maybe the first time since Diego had spoken to her.
He was about to respond but a sharp sneeze aimed into Klaus’ elbow cut him off.
“Sorry…about that,” Klaus murmured. “didn’t mean to ruin the moment.”
“There was no moment to ruin,” Diego answered quickly, and Maya shifted uncomfortably in her seat. “What are we even back here for anyway?”
“Just closing thoughts! Any last things you wanted to say, it’ll only take a few minutes,” Maya assured, a little bit of her bubbly personality coming back now. “It might be nice if you all left a message for Five. You know, so he might see it if he’s still out there.”
“You think we haven’t tried that?” Diego sneered.
“That’s a great idea!” Klaus clapped his hands. “hhn’inxtshiehh! I’ll start.” He proceeded to give what was essentially a very “heartfelt” plea for their missing brother to please reach out to him, whether he was still alive or not. He had to restart three times. The first time he turned to the side to stifle an itchy trio. The second time Luther turned to his side to stifle a congested double, amplifying the pressure in his head and also ruining the take. The third time, everyone laughed at Klaus’ terrible acting. Except for Luther, who squinted his eyes shut tight at the loud noise. But the final product ended up pretty convincing, and Klaus’ leaned back in his seat with a grin and a very liquid sniffle.
Maya decided it would be easiest to go down the line in the opposite order since they’d started with Klaus. Klaus was now too high to stifle his sneezes, and Luther’s stifles were getting progressively less successful. Which meant a lot of ruined takes.
It took about twenty minutes for them to get through their three siblings’ messages for their brother. Diego’s was cold and stoic, Vanya’s was gentle and genuine, and Allison’s was grandiose and just as overly emotional as Klaus’ (though hers was actually pretty well-acted).
The last person to go was Luther. His head was so clogged up that every sneeze just built more and more pressure. He felt like he was suffocating in the cloud of perfume as he sat down next to Maya, who didn’t seem to care or feel any sympathy for him (it was all reserved for Klaus). She gestured to the camera and Luther let out two hard sneezes into his elbow. He sniffled and then started to speak.
“Snf, Five, if you’re out there we need you back. We worked well together as a team, but even more than that you’re our family,” Luther started strong but his words were clouded by congestion, while his throat was starting to host a dull ache. “You didn’t deserve to go completely off of the grid when you were just a curious kid trying to figure something out.” His voice cracked on the last word. He gave another sniffle and pressed his finger against his nose to try and quell the tickle until he finished.
“You’re a little stuffed up there, bud,” Klaus said. “It’s kinda hard to understand.”
Diego gave a quick laugh. “You’re one to talk there, Klaus.”
At Klaus’ words, Luther’s cheeks turned pink. He asked, “Do I have to start over? Should I?”
Maya shook her head, “We can clip different pieces together if you want. Don’t worry, you weren’t completely unintelligible.”
Her phrasing made it hard for Luther to tell if she was comforting him or delivering a cleverly disguised insult.
He blew his nose, cleared his throat, and continued, “Five, you deserved to experience the world with us as we grew up and figured it out. I would say that if I could go back and convince you to stay I would, but time travel is what messed this all up in the first place.”
That was about all he could give while being completely meaningful yet not making an utter fool of himself even more than he felt he already had.
He nodded at Maya to let her know he was done and he ducked down into a tissue. “Hh’ngksHIEW!” He tried to stifle the first one but the pain that seared through his skull instantaneously was enough to convince him to let it out. “Hhh’ehhKSHIEW!”
“Bless you,” chorused Allison, Maya, and Vanya.
Klaus was in his own world and Diego didn’t really feel like talking.
“If you don’t like it, we can always scrap your parts and leave them out. Only if you think it’s too hard to understand,” Maya said.
Allison rolled her eyes. “Remind me, what was the reason why they keep sneezing?”
That shut Maya up and slapped an embarrassed blush onto her cheeks.
“Hey, stop being rude to Maya! It’s not hihhh! It’s not her fault!” Klaus defended his hookup, then immediately snapped forward into a tissue. “HihhihhiECKshyuu! Hihheh'ingxtshiew! Heh'atshyuehh!”
The fact that he said it wasn’t her fault absolutely sent Diego over the edge. He laughed coldly, “Seriously, Klaus? Are you hearing yourself right now?”
“She didn’t know! How was she supposed to know?!”
“Stop yelling!” Luther commanded from the other side of the couch
“No one’s fucking yelling,” Diego hissed back, and then abruptly raised his voice. “THIS IS YELLING.” Vanya flinched next to him in response. Luther winced and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Really, Diego?” Vanya spoke up for the first time since her goodbye to Five, though her voice was still just a fraction of everyone else’s volume. Allison reached across her and slapped Diego on the arm.
“That was so uncalled for. Grow up.” Then she turned her attention back to Luther. “Are you okay?” He started to nod, but the gesture was cut off by a stifled sneeze, which seemed to push him over the edge. With a small sigh of defeat, he shook his head “no” instead.
Allison turned back to the group. “Are we good to go? I think he needs to get out of here.” She stood up beside Luther and gestured for him to follow suit before anyone could respond.
“Oh, yeah, you’re good to go!” Maya piped up.
“Sorry,” Luther smiled sheepishly, though he was still squinting, “Thanks for having us.”
“Oh, thank you two for sharing your stories with me! It was touching and I really enjoyed talking with you!”
“That makes one of us,” Diego grumbled under his breath, then yelped slightly when Klaus pinched him on the arm.
“I’d give you a goodbye hug but I don’t think that’s such a good idea for you, Luther. Allison, do you-” she cut herself off when she realized Allison had started leading Luther out the door without turning back.
The door slammed audibly, just as Klaus’ breath hitched wildly.
“Hih..hih…hiehehhEDSchiew-nxgt-hi'ishyuu! Hihhheng'ktshiuu! Hihhihenhh….ihh? Hihihh'iGKTshyuu! Whoo, my nose just won’t quit today!” He was out of breath after all of them.
“Klaus, it’s getting bad again” Diego condemned. “I think it’s time for you to-”
“Wait!” Diego held a finger out to Diego, his other hand still hovering in front of his face. His breath hitched as if he wasn’t already out of breath already. “Hihh..? Ihh? HAH!… Oh fuck, the tickle won’t go away. You know when you can feel it -heh!- right there but it just won’t go over the edge?” Vanya suddenly shot up.
“I think it’s time for me to go, too,” she said quietly, and shot Maya a quick wave. “Thanks for having us.” And then she bolted out of the room. Diego ignored her.
“Bye Van! Love you!” Klaus called out hoarsely, wheezing in between words.
“Klaus,” Diego’s tone was stern. “It’s time to go.”
Klaus frowned, “I don’t want to go yet.”
“We have a shower downstairs!” Maya blurted.
“And?”
“Shush, Diego! I think I know what she’s getting at,” Klaus grinned.
Diego rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. “No way. I’m not waiting here while you two have shower sex. Come on, Klaus we’re going back to my place.”
Before Diego could grab Klaus and yank him out of the building Klaus flashed him his puppy dog eyes. He begged, “Please, I-I think it would help if I showered now, too. Your place isn’t the closest and my lungs are feeling kind of tight…”
“Fine. But hurry!” Diego gave in. He always gave in.
“Goody!” Klaus clapped. “We’ll be back soon!”
They were not, in fact, back soon. Klaus came upstairs an hour later, giggly, relaxed and exhausted (yet finally sneeze-free). If Diego hadn’t fallen asleep waiting for him, he would have read him the riot act. Instead, they walked back to Diego’s place, both yawning and rubbing their eyes the whole way.
So, I finished The Wild Hunt and whoo boy the ending just got me thinking all over again, here’s another fic.......
In The Embers
Tags: Geralt & Lambert & Eskel, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Angst With A Happy Ending, Canonical Character Death, Grief/Mourning, Family Bonding, aka the Wolf Bros are good bros, Lambert POV
Thanks again to my beta @aergos!!
>> Read on AO3
“Mister witcher, sir!”
At first Lambert thinks it the beginning of the usual insults thrown his way. He doesn't pause for it, mounts his horse in one swift move, his hand clenched to a fist around the reins. No matter how much time passes, the omnipresent hatred for his mere existence gets marginally easier to bear–
A boy jumps in his way, practically in front of his horse's hooves, and only a call of “Aiden, halt!” prevents him from eating dirt.
“Hey, watch where you're–”
“Sir”, the other persists, determined now that he has the witcher's attention, and Lambert squints at his gangly limbs and the patchy fuzz on his chin. Not quite a boy, then, and courageous at that.
Still. He almost gave Aiden a heart attack and Lambert is in no mood to look for a new horse or to entertain some peasant kid, for that matter. “What do you want? If it's monster trouble, post a damn note, I'm busy.”
The boy doesn't move an inch, despite Lambert's best glare. His hands are shaking, though, as he roots through his bag for something. Finally, a crinkled envelope is held out to him.
“'s a letter, sir, from Novigrad. Sent by a bard named–“
“Give me that.”
Lambert snatches it away before the kid can react. Brow furrowed, he confirms it's from Dandelion; there's a suspicious lack of decor to it, however. “And you're sure you got the right witcher?”
“Absolutely certain, sir”, says the boy. “Was told to look for black hair and scars and a sour face a-and, um...”
Definitely less courageous now, with his features pale as the moon, and Lambert finds some mercy in him after all. He waves him closer, gives him some coin for a warm meal and some mead, if he strikes a good deal. He'll manage. Seems like the clever sort.
Dandelion, however... Regardless of what this is about, the witcher will have his revenge. Sour face, hah. He hasn't even seen Lambert angry.
Coins in hand, the boy practically leaps away with a hasty bow in Lambert's general direction. Clearly unused to his kind, if his first instinct is to treat him like a knight.
Lambert chews on that for a moment before making quick work of the envelope. Worry makes itself known in the back of his mind. If Dandelion went through the trouble of tracking him down, then–
The paper is clumsily folded, and stinks of fear. No, stress. Concern. Not good – Lambert's heart pounds faster. He skips the greeting, skims the hastily written words and–
Ciri is dead.
Lambert reads it, and then reads it again, eyes going wide as their meaning sinks in. His thoughts, frozen in a brief instant of shock, fly in all directions at once.
A tug of reins makes Aiden turn sharply, the press of Lambert's heels at his side urgent; and Lambert doesn't notice the wind whipping through his hair or how the world goes blurry around the edges.
Geralt, he thinks, and pushes on ever faster.
*
It feels like years until the forest around him turns familiar, deeply so, and the witcher turns to the rapidly approaching mountain range for orientation.
Nevertheless the last leg of his journey goes by in a flash; the shadows grow longer under the setting sun, and soon Kaer Morhen towers over him, its high walls taking the last light with it. On any other day, Lambert would've stopped and stared, would've given himself a minute or two to take in the sight of the crumbling keep once more.
He doesn't, however. The tense coil wrapped around his heart won't allow it, the storm swirling in his mind rendering any focus other than finding Geralt impossible, and finally Lambert understands.
There's no doubt his eyes carry the same hunted look he had, that time they met in Novigrad. No wonder Geralt had pushed himself and even his beloved Roach to her limits in his search – uncertainty is it's own kind of torture, and even the strongest might break under the weight of what if.
Lambert actively stops himself from reaching for the letter again. He knows it by memory now, not that it contained much to begin with:
Ciri, gone. Geralt, missing without a trace.
His fame and relative sociability belies his skill to remain in the shadows if he so wishes – and once a witcher of Geralt's caliber decides to disappear, there's not much to be done. Contacting Lambert had been Dandelion's last resort, but even he couldn't pick up a single solid lead on the White Wolf.
Yet Lambert refuses to let him go like he did Aiden, hell, even Vesemir; turning his back after everything was said and done felt natural then, it's what the Path demanded of him. Never attached, never sticking around... But something about Geralt makes him want to try, that same fire he showed for Ciri burning within him, too.
They're family, not by blood but by choice, and he'll be damned if he fails him like he failed the others.
Thus Lambert doesn't hesitate, and he doesn't cower under Kaer Morhen's heavy gates. Something – his senses, or maybe a rare bout of optimism – tells him this old keep isn't abandoned just yet.
Maybe fate is on his side, this time.
*
The first lit lantern inside the ramparts proves his hunch right, and it's not hard to guess who ignited it when he brings Aiden to the stables and finds two other horses in their respective boxes.
Lambert recognizes Scorpion easily enough – there's only few mounts black as night, and hours of listening to Eskel's equivalent of swooning made sure he won't forget it – and Roach is curious as ever, gently bumping her nose against Lambert's shoulder.
“'fraid I got nothing”, he murmurs and rubs the white spot between her eyes, glancing her over. Small cuts and scrapes interrupt the white markings on her legs. Nothing too grave, though.
“Had a rough journey, hm? Good girl. Things're gonna be okay, you'll see.”
Even the hardened heart of a witcher can't resist the concentrated effort of all three horses to plead with their eyes; Lambert sighs, hunts down some hay that's safe to feed amongst all the moldy bales left behind after the battle.
It's the least they deserve for their hard work.
Leaving them and their contented munching behind, the few stone steps to the keep's entrance are quickly climbed. Suddenly, the wolf medallion around Lambert's neck stirs: a gentle hum at first, barely noticeable through the thick layers of his armor, yet the closer he gets, the stronger it vibrates.
Magic? Lambert's hand goes to his silver sword by instinct, his enhanced senses picking up some movement–
“Drawing your sword on me? Not the warm welcome I expected.”
Amber eyes flash in the dark, the faint moonlight catching on pale skin and the clawed scars marring it. “Stop creeping in the shadows like a damn ekimmara and I might reconsider”, Lambert huffs, nonetheless sheathing his sword.
“I see you beat me here, Eskel.”
They shake hands, Eskel's crooked smile a little smug. Lambert lets him have it. Just being around the older witcher soothes some of the restlessness inside him – there's little in the world that can break Eskel's calm nature, and out of anyone, he's the one who's known Geralt the longest.
All too soon, the warm feeling of seeing a friendly face runs cold; Lambert nods to the closed door, “Is he...?”, and watches the other closely as his expression notably dims.
“Mh. Can't say I recommend going in there, though.”
Eskel exhales slowly, sitting down on a piece of broken masonry. The way he carries himself is... defeated, almost, similar to the last time they parted after Vesemir's pyre had burned down to embers.
The sudden weight on his chest denies Lambert a proper breath. “That bad, huh? Shit.” He shakes his head, rubs his neck. For a moment, the rasp of his beard against the worn leather of his gloves is the only sound. Then:
“I just hoped–“
“Yeah. Me too.”
More silence. His medallion is still trembling, so too is Eskel's – and after weeks of travel and hundreds of miles crossed, waiting even for a second longer is the last thing Lambert feels like doing. Frustration seethes within him, making him pace with his eyes fixed on the keep.
Finally, he can't take it anymore. Hissing “Fuck this” under his breath, Lambert is half-way past Eskel when a strong grip wraps around his wrist.
“Lambert.”
“What?!”, he snaps back, tense under the other's unexpected touch. “We can't sit around and leave him–“
“You're right.” Eskel's eyes seek his, gaze steady and yet soft with concern as he lets him go. “Just... Be careful. Geralt– I've never seen him like this.”
The anger leaves Lambert in an instant; he nods, hesitating before he briefly rests his hand on Eskel's shoulder and squeezes. Then he's past him, only the cracked wood of the door stands between him and Geralt.
Lambert steels himself and opens it.
Darkness surrounds him the moment he steps inside. The dull light from outside barely spills past the threshold, but it's the near-oppressive presence of magic hitting his senses like a physical punch that staggers him: even the very air tastes of it, and Lambert's unease grows.
“Geralt?”
His voice carries far within the keep's stone walls, but no answer arises. Great. Eskel's warning fresh in his mind, Lambert ventures into the darkened room like he would a monster's lair – with his senses on high alert and ready to cast the Quen sign if need be.
Despite the years and decades since his training, Kaer Morhen's halls remain fundamentally the same; any witcher raised here could walk them blindly, and finding a candelabra that works is merely a matter of trial and error. A few candles ignite on Lambert's command, their timid flames reaching towards the center–
He catches a flash of white before his medallion lurches and something comes flying towards him. Lambert's fingers move without conscious thought; the golden glow of Quen lasts but a split second before it's shattered again and the crash of splintering wood sounds behind him.
Lambert doesn't take his eyes off his target though, even if his lips pull into a joyless smirk. “Did you just throw a table at me?”, he says, letting some indignation slip into his voice. “That what you did to Eskel, too? Poor guy's not faring well out in the doghouse, Geralt.”
The icy glare from across the room makes him reconsider not drawing his sword. “Leave”, Geralt growls. It's pretty clear it's not a suggestion.
Lambert hums, eyeing the surrounding destruction, then the witcher who caused it in barely-there glances. His chest is bare and practically dripping with sweat, hair wild, muscles taut, trembling with exertion. Geralt's been at it a while, it seems.
Not good at all.
“Nah. Just got here an' it's cold as balls outside. If you want to toss around some more furniture, I suggest the chair to your right. Still in one piece, that's a plus.”
Step by small step, he forces his stride to be casual as he approaches – Geralt's eyes never leave him, pupils narrowed to thin, angry slits, and Lambert doesn't miss the positioning of his arm, ready to strike again.
“Look. I get it, company's probably the last thing you want right now but–“
Maybe it's his calming tone of voice, or the placating show of hands; Geralt grinds his teeth hard enough Lambert can hear it, the chair goes flying, Lambert's countering Aard push only doing so much in blocking the blow.
Sheer wind pressure knocks him back, flattens him against a pillar, and for a moment Lambert sees stars as all the air in his lungs is pressed out in one strangled breath. Blinking away the dark spots, he can only pant in a desperate attempt to get oxygen back into his body.
Somewhere behind his unresponsive lungs, the witcher's pulse starts to race. Shit shit shit. If Geralt's serious about this – and by the way he's stalking closer, he is – there's no way Lambert's living through this. Just the thought of fighting his friend, his brother, with all he has makes his stomach churn.
Lambert holds out his hand. “Geralt–“
“That's enough!”
Like thunderclap, the words seems to freeze time itself for the blink of an eye. Lambert barely recognizes Eskel underneath the absolute wrath in his voice, and before Geralt can as much as turn around, a blast of Aard blows him clean off his feet and into some debris behind him.
The sight of Eskel's back in front of him makes that remnant of fear, that small part of him that is still scared of loud voices and fisted hands deep inside ease, and Lambert can breathe again. “Eskel, stop”, he rasps. “I'm alright, he didn't–“
“He intended to, that's reason enough.”
Somewhere ahead, the rustling of moving rubble goes ignored by Eskel who helps the younger witcher to his feet. “Smacked that pillar pretty hard”, he mutters, anger replaced by worry; Lambert pushes him away.
“'m fine, head's fine, ribs're fine, get out of my face.”
Even now, that petulant tone draws a fond look from Eskel, however brief. “Alright, you're snapping at me, we're good. Geralt?”
He doesn't raise his voice, there's no need to: the third and last Wolf is standing a few paces away, expression unreadable yet Lambert doesn't miss the short glance his way. “Could've pulled that punch a little”, says Geralt at last, without the usual dryness or humor.
Eskel shrugs. “Payback's a bitch and you deserved it. Wolf school witchers kicked out of Kaer Morhen by one of their own – Vesemir would have our heads, no matter the reason.”
There's more than a little venom in Geralt's hissed “Vesemir's dead”, and it's in that moment that Lambert steps between them, pushing them apart.
“Okay, that's the line. Let's all just shut up, get our shit, pool whatever booze we have and drink till we forget this ever happened. Deal? Good. Eskel, with me.”
He doesn't check for Eskel's or Geralt's reaction; instead, Lambert walks out with measured strides, eyes closing in relief when another, heavier gait soon follows.
They don't talk while they gather their many packs, weapons and saddle bags, even though there's a lot to be said about... whatever the blazes that was: first and foremost, how it's possible that Lambert is the rational one in all this – but he watches Eskel forcefully grab his gear to head inside, expression cold and eyes distant, and thinks that Kaer Morhen might've stayed the same but they haven't, and maybe, time has changed them more than they want to admit.
If only Vesemir wasn't–
Lambert sighs quietly to himself.
Yeah, if only.
other personal things ^^;
I really shouldn’t have all of these blogs though since I’m in pharmacy school which means zero time and I’m just a lazy person in general who forgets to update things. I think a bunch of them don’t even have proper themes because I didn’t care enough to go find one LOL
But there’s my shameless self-promotion~ I’ll just put links for the ones that aren’t too messy. but feel free to ask for the others
I really want to make one where idols wear green too since my favorite color is green and idk some idols just look really nice in green alsdkfajls I need to stop.
Do I Get Asks: I told myself that I wouldn’t reblog asks unless I somehow got a decent amount of followers with curious enough people to ask stuff so, no. There’s a lot sitting in my drafts though so if you’re ever curious, *finger guns*.
Why Did I Choose My URL: Sigh, it’s an old username that I came up with when I first made my twitter in 8th grade, so I pretty much used it for everything. But I’m tired of it, and I changed my usernames on both my twitter and instagram so maybe one day I’ll finally change my tumblr one, too. I wanted to use my League IGN but it’s taken so :(
Followers: Like how many I have? A decent amount, I’d say? I don’t know how many of them are truly active, but I do see some people from time to time. I think they’re mostly my friends though.
Average Hours of Sleep: OOF okay so during the school year, I was doing pretty well with sleeping relatively early and getting about 7-8 hours of sleep in. Now that it’s summer though... >_>
Lucky number: 7 !! It was my lucky number in the board game Life and since my birthday is June 8th (mark your calendars), it’s cute because 7 is between 6/8 ^^;
Instruments: I was honestly tempted to link Yoongi’s First Love here since I relate so much to it. I’ve played the piano since I was in 3rd grade? So about 14-15 years? I’m no Mozart or anything, but I enjoy playing it from time to time. In the more recent years, I’ve started kinda composing my own songs as well. I even bought a little music book to write down notes instead of just recording them in my phone ^^; But yeah, I love the piano and honestly, the lyrics of First Love really capture my experience with piano.
What Am I Wearing: A nightgown and a light robe since it was freezing when I woke up from my nap before dinner. Nightgowns are the best, guys, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Dream Trip: To keep it short, I’ll just list a few countries I’d like to visit/go back to, because it’s kinda hard for me to describe what my dream trip would be without it sounding weird and vague.
Italy
Japan
England
South Korea
Vietnam
Nationality: Vietnamese-American
Favorite Song: Another loaded question, ahhhh. I don’t know if I have a favorite kpop song, but for American music, I always say that Lost Stars from the movie Begin Again is my favorite. I’ll be honest and say that I’m not always 100% in the mood to listen to it, but I do listen to it when I’m feeling down and it’s helped me sleep on a few occasions, lol. I also always sing it during karaoke too, so there’s that.
Last Book I Read: Oof I honestly don’t know +_+ I’ve been meaning to re-read the Series of Unfortunate Events books though. For some reason, when I was younger, I read 12 of the 13 books. TWELVE. AND I NEVER FINISHED IT. I have no idea why, either. aldsfkjalsd so yeah, I’d like to re-read those again someday~
3 Fictional Universes I Want To Join: oh boy
Fire Emblem Awakening’s universe because I trust all of them with my life, I’d make an awesome Grandmaster and plus my husband, Lon’qu
Akagami no Shirayukihime’s because I, too, am a prospective pharmacist so I’d like my own Prince Zen fawning over me and rescuing me from bad guys
BTS’ HYYH Prologue because they went to so many places with pretty water scenery and sometimes you just want to run away and be adventurous with your best friends
Thanks again, Andy, for tagging me !! I’ll tag @jibaby, @youretheairibreathe, @whenitfallsthrough but you don’t have to if you don’t want to lol. And then anyone else that wants to/does do it, please tag me because I really want to read your answers ;3; !!
Okay there is something that’s been weighing on my heart for a while now
I come from a family who is against a lot – they don’t believe in marrying outside your own race, are against same sex relationships, some think bad of you if you’re depressed when you have absolutely no right to be, are very judgmental, the list goes on but that’s just a few… so I keep many secrets from them. I come from that yet I’m one of the black sheep’s and you don’t tell anyone anything unless you are full ready to be judged for the rest of your life by everyone. I think you should marry anyone you wish whether it’s a person of a different race or sex if that person makes you happy that is all that matters because Love is uncontrollable, people who of different color are beautiful and were created special and so unique, I judge nobody unless I’m playing with them but never in a serious manner and I make sure I tell them that, If you are depressed I will sit up all night and talk to you until you either feel better or are so tired you pass out on me I’ll still be there when you come back the next day, every body type is beautiful - skinny, curvy, or fabulously plump it don’t matter to me you are fucking gorgeous to me just the way you are
That is just who I am by nature
A while back; months ago, I bumped into an old acquaintance I used to work with at my first job haven’t seen her in years and we started talking, I proudly announced I had made my first best friend out of the many new friends I have made over the past couple months and I had to pull up a picture of her to show this woman just how beautiful she is
I said she was the most beautiful person I had ever met because in my eyes she is, inside and out she is perfect to me praising her for all the amazing qualities that make her who she is – I even made an unthought-of comment about this girl and in doing so this woman read between the lines (And probably could see it on my face) figuring out I am bi. I have always liked girls just as much as guys yet I have more male friends… but because of my family I have never revealed that I’m not straight
I’m in no way ashamed of it but there are something’s I would prefer nobody but people who I know won’t judge me to actually know
She looked at me in shock because she knows I’m married with 2 kids and knows my man well asking if I had feelings for my friend before placing her hand on my shoulder when I didn’t answer her, she told me she would be praying for my soul so maybe I wouldn’t burn in hell, that she know knew why I had cut my hair off and colored it in such flamboyant colors (It fell out I didn’t chose to look like a guy) before walking off looking disgusted
Since then I have seen her several times each time she asks if I have changed my heathen ways – then will tell me she’s just joking (You can tell she’s not because she will touch her cross necklace until she walks off) and me being me I just held my tongue because I’m a nice person and you are free to your own opinion but the last time she saw me she asked if my husband knew about my sins and that I was lusting over a woman, how would he react if he were to find out that I was sexually attracted to somebody but him, what would my poor parents say… and after so long (20 agonizingly long minutes of not punching her in the mouth) I was sick of it
I stood up for myself. I told her I was proud of whom I was, I can’t help who I see as attractive and that as a woman of understanding god she shouldn’t be so judgmental of a lifestyle that is different than her own. I married a man because I loved him and thought it was the right thing to do
I’m a Christian yet I don’t go to church or pray every day, that just means when I do he will listen because I’m a rare visitor and he might just answer if I call. I cuss and have no filter whatsoever. I HAVE NO SHAME! I don’t see the world as black and white, I come from judgment that don’t give me the right to tell anyone they are right or wrong for what they do or say
That’s when I let her have it and told her I didn’t need her approval for anything and that if she ever knew the real me her eyes would probably burn out of her skull and today I got curious
She unfriended then blocked me on social media along with everyone who she knows who was on my page including her daughter and three other women I used to work with. Blocked my number. If she sees me in public she avoids me
And I don’t give two shits because I am who I am I will never apologize for being me
That being said if you’re a girl and you love a man - high five baby girl! You’re a man who loves another wonderful man who makes your world turn - you go get it dude! You’re a girl who loves a beautiful woman who makes you feel like you are their universe – whoo work it sista! You’re a man or woman who loves more than one person you are balling and just that amazing more than one person can love you.
And if you are one of my wonderful followers who’s heart and body belongs to one or all of those tall dark muscled up sexy Ninja Turtle’s – shit enough said
Sorry for the rant guys
The Archon’s Opinion: What Does it Mean for Good Characters to Have Bad Games; or, the Curious Case of Sonic the Hedgehog
Hey, guess who can’t count to five? This Archon! Whoo!
Anyway, I wanted to discuss something that’s been on my mind since Sonic Mania came out a while back, and even since the Game Grumps (hi guys) began their playthrough of Sonic Unleashed. That thing is simply: why is it that though Sonic the Hedgehog is a good character, the games about him are... not so good. On this episode of The Archon’s Opinion, we’re going to determine the why, what, and how, of the atrociousness of Sonic games. Or maybe I’ll just ramble on about how awesome Shadow Sonic is. Who knows?
Let’s start out by defining what it is that makes Sonic a “good character”. What I mean by “good character” is one who is largely appealing, and one who is either deep or punchy, one you have to think a lot about or one you can immediately recognize and empathize with. In this case, Sonic is the latter; he’s got an easily-recognizable silhouette, and a fun and easy-to-memorize suite of powers (goes fast, can go super-saiyan, can roll good, spikes sharp). Also, while the particulars of his personality depend on the writer, he’s generally consistent in his carefree-but-righteous nature. Most people like to think of themselves as morally upright, and many people, I should think, prefer to think of themselves as being fun-loving and care-free, like Sonic in a way. So, Sonic the Hedgehog is both punchy and easy to follow, and broadly appealing.
Next, a little context about Sonic’s history in video games. Back in ye olden dayes, Sonic the Hedgehog came out for the SEGA Genesis. It was a pretty standard platforming game, with an emphasis on speed and semi-complex environments. It was meant as a direct competitor to the Mario Bros. series, and it sold like hotcakes on a cold morning, or something like that. Sonic’s 2 and 3, as well as 3 and Knuckles all also did really well, financially speaking. Things only began to run downhill when Sonic Adventure was released. Poor dialogue, mediocre plot, and annoying characters dragged down the game significantly. Things seemed to uptick with the release of Sonic Adventure 2, which had some problems, but in terms of plot, characters, controls, and graphics, it was a vast improvement. Sonic Heroes was largely a blank in terms of critical reception, getting average reviews among publications, and mixed reviews from individual critics. Sometime later... came the dark ages.
^(Ugh)^
^(Uuulgh)^
^(Bluuurgh, no.)^
^(Huh)^
^(Hey, okay.)^
^(Aaaargh! Ah Gottirn, nein!)^
While Sonic Colors and Generations provided brief, dim lights in the darkness that followed Adventure 2, they were not enough to save Sonic’s critically damaged reputation. Many people, players and critics alike, have gone on record as saying that Sonic should be put down for good, each individual having their own opinion as to when he should have been dropped.
So, we have a character who is consistently likable and eminently marketable, but who is the subject of a swath of poor video games. And yet, despite the utter abhorrence many Sonic titles languish in, he still has plenty of fans. Why is this?
Perhaps the answer lies in other media that Sonic has been in. For example, the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series has generally been received positively. One might very easily argue that this is because the comic series lacks the various elements that made the games really bad. After all, you don’t have to rely on shitty controls to make Sonic do his thing in a comic series, and the character’s voices can be as cool or as terrible as you imagine them to be. Also, the plots are written by people who’s job it is to write plots! Amazing! And the graphics are drawn by people who are trained to draw comic book art. Also amazing!
^(Pictured: Something I’d totally read)^
In this way, the comics make use of Sonic’s personality and abilities, without forcing you to wrestle with poorly implemented controls or terrible glitches. We get his character, without his game. The same goes for the television series; although, none of the television adaptations seem to sell quite as well as the comic. Possibly because of the voices of... certain characters.
So how can Sonic Team and SEGA make Sonic games better while preserving Sonic’s character? What really is the deal with Sonic games? Well, game journalist and professional... Boglinwatcher, I guess... Jim Sterling, has actually made the point that after the relative failure of Sonic ‘06, SEGA kept trying different things to make the games good, many of which failed. He went on to say that each of the games presented an interesting concept, and that each could have been a great game, if it were refined. His argument was if SEGA had stuck to a single concept or idea long enough to make it good, then Sonic games could be good, Q.E.D.
To see that idea in action, we can take a look at SEGA’s direct competitor, Nintendo. In many ways, Nintendo’s flagship characters are much like Sonic the Hedgehog. Por exemple, Mario has a very basic set of abilities, an easily-recognizable silhouette, and his bright colors and blank-slate personality make it easy for us to project ourselves onto him as we play. Link from the Legend of Zelda games, is very similar, with a simple-ish design, a monotone color scheme, and a classic story arc.
Consider now, that Nintendo has, with few exceptions, been pumping out the same Mario and Zelda games for years. Mario has had plenty o’ platformers, and Link has a lot of adventure games. One does not create using the same formula over and over without becoming very good at it, and refining it to a razor polish. Mildly mixed metaphors aside, this is, essentially the main difference between Nintendo’s properties and Sonic the Hedgehog; Sonic games can have all the interesting ideas in the world, but if they’re not refined, they just won’t be very good as compared to a more polished experience.
Now, we’ve all heard the flagship complaints carried by Sonic’s detractors. The first is that because he’s too fast, and because depth perception in a 3d environment is difficult, Sonic simply cannot exist competently in a 3d space. Q.E.D. any 3d Sonic game will be bad. I disagree; I believe that 3d Sonic’s relative atrociousness isn’t an intrinsic property of 3d physics’ interaction with Sonic’s speed, but that Sonic Team simply don’t often design environments wherein the two elements play well. When stages are constructed to take advantage of Sonic’s characteristic speed, such as the first level in Sonic Adventure and some of the “Regular Sonic” stages in Unleashed, they’ve often been described as good, or even the best parts of those games. Really, the problem isn’t Sonic, it’s Sonic’s developers, who don’t seem to know how to handle him.
Another common complaint is that Sonic’s ever-expanding team of sapient animal friends is drawing the games away from their core focus. Such detractors will say that any stage in which you are you are, say, being Tails in a mech, instead of being Sonic and going fast, is somehow a detriment to the game’s quality. Again, I have to disagree; plenty of games have many different core mechanics that form the whole game, and I think maybe instead of insisting that every Sonic game be about going fast exclusively, we should look at any stage in which we get to play as a new character as an interesting new experience; even if we don’t personally like it; we can at least appreciate that the particular game in question isn’t monotone. That said, those critics who claim that the other character’s personalities and voices are irritating may have a point, at least in the grand generality of Sonic games.
Finally, I want to talk for a moment about the relative success of Sonic Mania, and the stigma that 3d Sonics have acquired. See, Mania has been hailed as this return to form for Sonic the Hedgehog, and that’s not without merit. The game essentially has classic Sonic’s turgid wang firmly in it’s mouth, and while that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I feel like it could lead to a bad thing. A lot of the complaints about modern Sonics has been about the 3d aspects, and Mania is 2d, you see. What I’m worried about it that Sonic Team might see the success and praise for Mania and think that the number of dimensions is the problem, instead of the lack of polish, the glitches, the unlikable sidekicks, etc. And therein lies a risk of a return to the problem Jim Sterling mentioned, wherein Sonic Team simply abandons an aspect of Sonic games because they think that it specifically is the reason it didn’t do well, and thus, it may lead to merely another unpolished Sonic game, except in 2d.
فى الختام،, Sonic games suffer primarily from a severe lack of polish, overall glitchiness, and a menagerie of annoying ancillary characters, truly. But they have not suffered from 3d, or from Sonic’s own character. To fix this, Sonic Team should stick to one or a few core elements for the games, at least for a while, until they get good at it, before trying to get fancy.
^(Or they could just release Shadow the Hedgehog 2 already. Whatever works for them.)^
Well jee, you’re just flat out curious to know huh?
2: What would i name my future kids?I’ve already listed five names, and I’m definitely dead-set on naming one of my kids Alphonse.5. Is there anyone that can make me smile?Yes. a close friend? You probably can. My girlfriend? Yes, her especially. She makes me smile a lot too.6. Is it hard for me to get over someone?…I’m clingy as all hell,so… :/10. Am I good at hiding my feelings?Yes. I tend to let them out when I’m alone or with someone I deeply trust, other than that I do not express my pain or sadness.12.What’s something you want right now?That’s kind of a hard one to answer. I really want my life to be all settled and without any frays or issues but due to issues I’ve come up with, I’m kinda stressing out over that.15. Personality Description.-Avoid unless you don’t mind clingy people, also enjoy the music and enjoy my puns. please. please….18. Do you miss how things were a year ago?To be honest, kinda.I really wish i was just coming into 2016, fixing my issues from semester 1, as well as being able to have my life figured out from there.22:Description of crush.Now I’m gonna start by stating that it’s my understanding that Crush and Girlfriend are mutually exclusive. I’m also gonna state that, though I am polyamorous, I simply refuse to act on my feelings for other people out of respect for my girlfriend, as she does not consent to me dating others. This doesn’t diminish my having of crushes, and to be honest, it upsets me developing another crush because I know i shouldn’t have those feelings to begin with. I don’t want them either, but yet i suffer…
Anyway. My crush happens to be someone i marched with recently, pretty blonde hair, gentle eyes, and a rather kind voice. I’m gonna leave that there because if I go into detail, it’d be overwhelming and I’d embarrass myself.
23. Fears?
I have a serious fear of being completely alone. I can’t bear the feeling of absolute isolation under any aspect and I cannot fathom having no one to turn to. I also fear heights, and spiders, snakes, and death.
28. I’ll love you if…You treat me well, know when to back off and know when to comfort me, know what to say when im upset, motivate me to do better, and most of all, love me unconditionally and expect me to be at my best. All that, because I in turn will love unconditionally. Platonic, sexual, doesn’t matter.
31. 3 random facts about me.I’m capable of quickly learning an instrument given the time with it. I’ve picked up saxophone, cymbals, flute, piano, organ… Bass… you know.I’m autistic. I’ve got special interests, I stim, I sometimes don’t make eye contact, sometimes go non-verbal. A whole package of autism.**contents may vary person to person.And last fun fact, I’m notorious for puns. You’ve been warned.
34.Most embarrassing moment. Uh. I once hit a tree and fell on my back. Trees became my enemy ever since.44.Age I get mistaken for?I don’t think i’ve heard anything like “Oh? you’re 20? I thought you were 17.” yet but maybe give it time?47. Turn ons...geTTING A LITTLE FRIENDLY THERE HUH?!?! *sweats*Uh, biting gently, neck kisses, licking my ear (especially that) and lightly stroking my sides. Those are great ways to arouse me honestly.48.Turn offs.Don’t bite me too hard. I’m not into being hurt (or hurting) save for the scratching and biting.I’m also not really into blood honestly. Blood will turn me away quickly. Also a few kinks might just turn me away quickly.
51. Starsign.SCORPIO, MOTHERFuCKER.
58: Description of my bestfriend.
