So I saw a video recently...

It was about how because people have decided wasps are evil angry stingers gere only to curse you and your family these important pollinators are in danger. And like... normally I'd try and change my personal opinion upon hearing that but the thing is... I have had a phobia of them and every other flying bug with a stinger since I was teeny tiny. It's a little difficult to think of them as ok when just the thought of them makes breathing harder.

So I thought I'd share it here for my handful of followers! And here's some fun facts I got off a quick google search by typing in "wasps are important". (Quick to prevent giving myself an anxiety attack.)

Wasps aren't just important for pollination! They're also very useful for keeping balance in the ecosystem. They hunt bugs that would otherwise be eating the fauna and crops such as aphids and caterpillars.

While they aren't as good at pollinating as bees and butterflies (which both are running low on staff if you catch me anyway) they still pollinate almost 300 different plants at least. This is including 164 species which are entirely dependent on wasps specifically.

Wasps are particularly useful when it comes to grapes!

They're venom and saliva has antibiotic properties and yellow jacket wasp venom specifically have shown promise for curing cancer! Isn't that cool? How come I've never heard this!

Like I said, due to widespread hatred and belief that wasps are evil little demons, they're populations are dropping and research of them is too. Ya know how I just said they might help cure cancer? Yeah that's included. So while I can't really do anything maybe you can?

Duffy and her team tested both the venom itself and a synthetic version of a compound in the venom called melittin. They found that both were effective against triple-negative breast cancer and HER2-enriched breast cancer cells. In fact, a certain concentration of honeybee venom could kill 100 percent of cancer cells without seriously impacting healthy ones.

"The venom was extremely potent," Duffy said.

I could not find anything about the magickal properties of this specific plant, and so I would assume that because it is a variety of Thyme, the magickal purposes would be the same as for common Thyme, but possibly with a wilder energy or effect. These would include the following:

As the name implies it grows primarily in Spain. Thymus mastichina produces tiny, oval-shaped, green leaves, which have an intense flavor. In its Spanish homeland it is used as a culinary herb for meat dishes, stews and sauces and because of its strong aroma has been commonly used in Andalucía to season and preserve olives.

Despite this fact, it is prized more for its essential oils than for its herbal properties. The plant has an herbaceous scent with eucalyptus-like overtones with a hint of a vanilla note, which, in aromatherapy, is used for its soothing, relaxing effect. It’s oil is pale orange to amber in color and has a distinctive eucalyptus like aroma. It is also considered to be especially beneficial in relaxing muscles.

Tennessee now leads the nation in new Covid cases. No surprise here. 

Fences are going up at the Capitol again.  Saturday’s crowd, it is predicted, won’t be as big and unruly as the Jan 6 rioters, but could get ugly.  

The E Jean Carroll case is not going away as quickly as Trump might have wished.  His (cagey) lawyers claimed that his holding public office would make the government the defendant, which is impossible.  But the judge didn’t buy it. 

Note: Apparently Norm MacDonald had been suffering from cancer for several years.  I can remember seeing him on TV when he looked extremely heavy.  I wonder if that was the meds (think of Jerry Lewis).  

Note: Yaap Van Zweden, the N Y Phil conductor says he is leaving the job after the 2023 season.  Says the pandemic has made him rethink his priorities.  

Yom Kippur begins at sundown.  The girls are off from school tomorrow.  If everything works out okay I will go see them.

Mississippi now has replaced Tennessee as having the most recent Covid cases.  So many vax deniers. 

Pull myself together and head out to Queens.  See the girls.  They can no longer be described as little girls.  Go on walk with Jenna.  Our yearly trip to the local Halloween store, just to browse.  En route I see something new and wish I’d taken a photo of it.  An alternative (Islamic) medical center has popped up just across from the Wee Pub (Ozone Park landmark)...it offers apitherapy and cures with leeches.  Later I Google apitherapy.  Ah...it is a cure through honey bee venom.  And leeches...I thought that went out with Mussolini.  On the web site there is a photo of a big juicy leech.  Eww.

Note: George Will, another lapsed Republican, says he thinks Trump is an entertainer who is losing his audience by doing the same act over and over.  

Big rally on Saturday in protest of Jan 6th arrests.  But Trumpers are distancing themselves from this.  Instead of thousands there may only be hundreds.  Or, because of the preparation for potential rioting, the insurrectionist sympathizers might not show, just to mess with the Capitol police.  We’ll see.

I need to prove to a friend that snakes are good. Can you give me a few good points as to why snakes are good?

There's so many points! First of all, an animal doesn't have to be "good" to not be killed. People tend to look at the worth of an animal's existence when that's not a very good viewpoint to have.Most snake species are non-venomous/harmless, they vastly outnumber the amount of potentially harmful snakes. Even then, plenty of venomous species have such a mild venom that being bit by one is similar to a superficial bee sting. Copperheads are a good example, they don't have a deadly venom and benadryl is often used instead of antivenin. (If you're bitten by one, still go to the hospital tho)In areas where snakes are culled, there are more outbreaks of lyme disease and yes, the bubonic plague. There is no cure for the bubonic plague, the symptoms look like the flu and it will kill you. How can we prevent these outbreaks? Stop killing the animals that eat the rodents, namely snakes. The average snake eats 4000 ticks a year, this helps with lyme disease. (Also opposums are great to have around but thats a different topic). Snakes eat all sorts of things; rats, mice, moles, gophers, toads, slugs, snails, bugs, frogs, etc. Smaller species, like Dekays brown snakes, are a tiny harmless species that are fantasic for gardens. Their primary prey are bugs that like to ruin gardens. If that still doesn't convince your friend, rattlesnake venom is being developed to cure certain cancers instead of chemotherapy.Also a thing people tend to forget, snakes are prey animals. If snakes vanish, there are so many animals that would suffer as a result, especially birds of prey. Snakes by nature are not aggressive. Being chased by a snake is a myth or gross human misinterpretation. Snakes don't have the greatest vision, so when people say a snake is chasing them, what is actually happening is the snake is trying to escape on a route, sometimes the person happens to be in the way of that escape route. If you were to stand still, it would likely keep going on it's path. Dr. F. Karach, M.D., presented a paper before the All-Ukrainian Association. The meeting was attended by oncologists and bacteriologists belonging to the Academy of Science of the USSR. Dr. Karach explained an unusual simple healing process using cold-pressed oils.

The results of this therapy invoked astonishment and doubt concerning the contents of his report. However, after further examining the workings of the oil therapy, one has but to then test it on oneself to prove its validity and effectiveness. on more weird ass roommate stories: his dad just called him to tell a story of a friend of his. so apparently his dad’s friend was hit by a car and couldn’t walk anymore. doctors couldn’t do anything. he’s at his farm and is stung by a shitton of bees. a few days later, voila, he can walk again. roommate’s father’s advice was to take a bee periodically and let it sting him.

Wood Marjoram AKA Mastic Thyme

Thymus mastichina is a very special thyme, native in the mountains of the Iberian Peninsula, Central Spain and Portugal. It is known by a number of different common names including Spanish Marjoram, Spanish Wood Marjoram, White Thyme, Wild Marjoram or Mastic Thyme.

Thymus mastichina should not be confused with Marjoram also known as sweet Marjoram, knotted Marjoram and previously classed as Marjorana hortensis (Origanum majorana). Nor should it be confused with the Mastic Tree (Pistacia lentiscus).

I could not find anything about the magickal properties of this specific plant, and so I would assume that because it is a variety of Thyme, the magickal purposes would be the same as for common Thyme, but possibly with a wilder energy or effect. These would include the following:

As the name implies it grows primarily in Spain. Thymus mastichina produces tiny, oval-shaped, green leaves, which have an intense flavor.
