Eddie’s live-streaming, just chattering away about nothing in particular when Steve comes into the room. Hes holding his phone away from his face, frowning at it before rolling his eyes.
The phone is not on speaker but you can clearly hear the lecture that’s Steve’s ignoring when he turns to Eddie and gives him that smile that gets him everything he wants, “Hi, baby.”
Just because Eddie is aware that he’s being played, doesn’t mean he doesn’t love the game, “Stevie, do you want something?”
“Nothing big,” Steve nods. “Just the number of that lawyer you have on retainer.”
The audience at home can visually se Eddie’s brain come to a screeching halt, “I don’t have a lawyer. My recons label has a lawyer.”
“Yeah, that’s fine.”
Eddie leans in and whispers, “…What did you do?”
“Nothing, yet,” Steve replies, dropping the act all together. “My lawyer says she won’t defend me if I get arrested. Traitor.”
Oh, yeah. That is definitely Erica’s voice lecturing him on the phone. Cool. Eddie nods to himself, “Arrested for what?”
“I’m going to throw a rock through our neighbor’s window.”
There’s a beat where Eddie realizes he’s serious and is like, “Is that a reasonable response to a guy accidentally backing his truck into our flower bed.”
“No, we’re pass that,” Steve says over his shoulder, leaving both Eddie and his phone behind. “I’m going to burn down his house though.”
Eddie shakes his head, looks back at his live-stream but then hears a sound and is like, “Was that front door? Did he leave? Shit.”
And then Eddie’s gone.

I recently had a conversation with a friend that made me realise that (maybe) people might not know that the Italian mafia still exists and actively operates all over Italy. Like, the general international public has this old-timey idea of the mafia that stops at the 1950s, with Al Capone, seedy bars, car chases with tommy guns etc. etc. or at least that seems to be the case for the people who don’t live in Europe, or otherwise close to Italy.
So, I made this poll. DISCLAIMER: this poll is NOT so i could judge people in any way. I can’t really fault anyone for not knowing about a problem so tied to Italian soil and culture, I was just curious.
NOTE: I’m not making a distinction between the actual Mafia, Camorra, Ndrangheta etc. etc. just pretend that all Italian organized crime is one big thing for the sake of this poll.

i think, at some point, those books need to address the subject of same-sex relations, not in a ... moral? way, but
there's so much blackmail and secrecy and such, rife for exploitation and intrigue and upsetting everything. and all it'd take to fix it is the emperor and the archprelate going 'actually, we do not give a fuck, and if anyone is trying to blackmail you, inform such-and-such representative of your political or clerical entity', and then set up trustworthy people to report to
and since things like women's rights and worker's rights already require there being a way to report violations, they'd not even need to set up a network for reporting things anonymously

Well, we've had a fine active day. I never dine so heartily, I never sleep so soundly as when I have, during the day, sufficiently befouled myself with what our fools call crimes.

wait oh my god! thinking about a modern pretend marriage au but Geralt has to pretend he and Yen are still married because Ciri got into a really good school but it's very old fashioned so Geralt's hiding the fact he's remarried to Jaskier and shenanigans ensue, esp if Jaskier starts calling Yen and himself sister wives bc it always makes Geralt go

So I've just finished reading Philosophy in the Bedroom for the second time (I first read it last year and it's stuck with me ever since), and for me, the most disturbing moment was not the ending, though the ending is disturbing, don't get me wrong, but instead this one blink-or-you'll-miss-it moment in the middle of the book where one of the main characters casually mentions molesting a young child.
Here me out: In my opinion, the ending is disturbing in a similar way to the way a horror novel is disturbing. It's twisted as hell, but there's a point to it. It's an important moment in the story and it's clearly trying to send a message. Not a message I necessarily agree with, but a message nonetheless.
But at one point Dolmancé mentions having molested a child, and it's treated in this really casual way. It's in the middle of an interaction and no-one really reacts to it. It's presented in the same way that Dolmancé talking about what he'd had for dinner last night would be presented. The author treats it as insignificant, and that's what makes it more disturbing to me.
Still, aside from that it was a good book overall. I'm definitely gonna read more of Sade's work at some point
