Will sat across from Bedelia. She had her legs crossed, her stance closed. She would likely not open up to him here, not in this space. It felt too much like a therapy session for his taste. You were healing quickly but you weren’t able to make it to this mock session. Instead, Bedelia was curious to know how Will was taking this.
“I look at my wife and I see her dead. I see Mrs. Leads and Mrs. Jacobi lying where Y/N should be,” he said, his voice bitter. Bedelia nodded slowly.
“Do you see yourself killing her?” she questioned. Will rose his chin up at the accusation.
“No. I see myself killing the rest of them,” his voice lost some confidence as he spoke that but he quickly regained it, “but not her.”
“It’s hard to predict when brittle materials will break. Hannibal gave you three years to build a family and a life, confidence he’d find a way to take them from you,” Bedelia stated.
“So you know?” he asked. She shrugged.
“I guessed.” Bedelia thought about you as a mother. It seemed like such a foregin way to describe you but not exactly wrong. “Hannibal wants to take her from you because he couldn’t have her.”
Will raised an eyebrow.
“Alternatively,” he suggested, “I don’t think Hannibal knew that it was going to be Y/N.”
“But he wants her. Aggression can be effective means of maintaining order in a relationship. Which relationship that is is debatable.” Will adjusted his seating.
“What’s he going to take from you?” he asked.
“Is it important to you that he take something from me?” she questioned.
“Hannibal has agency in the world.”
“Hannibal has no intention of seeing me dead by any other hand than his own, and only then if he can eat me. He’s in no position to eat me now,” she said smoothly. He nodded in agreement.
“If you play, you pay.”
“You’ve paid dearly. As has your wife. That knowledge will lie in the skin forever.” She thought about that for a moment. “It excites him to see you marked in this particular way.”
“Why?”
“Why do you think?”
Will studied her, amused and almost annoyed by her psychiatric games. He played this enough with Hannibal.
“Bluebeard’s wife. Secrets you’re not to know, yet sworn to keep,” he said. Bedelia raised her chin and shook her head, ever so slightly.
“I was not Bluebeard’s wife, I was your wife’s stand in.” She paused. “But if I was, I would’ve preferred to be the last.”
Will considered this. He thought about you. He was away from you and that seemed nearly illegal. You and him had always been together. But then he thought of Hannibal. He thought of you and Hannibal. He thought of the three of you. His mind slowed for a moment.
“Is Hannibal…in love..with me?” he asked. Bedelia smiled.
“Could he daily feel a stab of hunger for you and find nourishment in the very sight of you? Yes. But you are not just you. You come with Y/N Graham as well.” She reminisced on the days before Florence for a minute. Seemed like ages ago. “When Hannibal would hear the two of you bunched together like that he got irked, like his mind could only comprehend his want for one of you at a time. And then, as time went on, I think he realized that you came together. He could have both of you. The Grahams.” Will took this at face value. In a way, it was something he had always known. “But does she ache for him? Do you?” Will did not answer. He just stared. Bedelia went on. “Once you catch the Red Dragon, you can take your wife and your dogs home again. But will you go?”
-
Hannibal stood across from Jack. They hated the presence of each other but stiffled it, for presence purposes.
“Will’s thoughts are no more bound by fear or kindness than Milton’s were by physics. He is both free and damned to imagine anything.”
“Now that he’s imagined the worst,” Jack stated. Hannibal nodded.
“Like ducklings, we imprint on those ideas that grab our attention,” he explained.
“What’s got your attention? God, the Devil and the Great Red Dragon? I couldn’t believe you messed up with him Hannibal.” Hannibal ignored the last comment. That was an anger used to simmer for another time.
“Lest we forget the Lamb.”
“Will is the Lamb of God?” Jack asked. Hannibal thought about this for a moment.
“Hide us from the wrath of the Lamb,” Hannibal settled on.
“Who’s ‘us’?” Jack asked. Hannibal smiled.
“You, me, his wife and the Great Red Dragon.”
-
You walked with Alana down to Hannibal’s cage. Your shoulder ached and pained you but you ignored it as best you could. She looked at you steadily as you approached the door.
“Have you spoken to Will?” she asked. You looked over to her.
“He doesn’t even know I’m out of the hospital. Which will hopefully not cause any panic,” you muttered offhandedly. You glanced over at her and she saw an ounce of fear in your eyes.
“You know, when I found out I was pregnant it wasn’t exactly a shock. But I was scared. I knew the world my child was being brought into. But he’s okay now. It’ll all make sense, I swear it,” she promised. You gave her a sensitive smile and nodded softly.
“You brought a Verger baby. I’m bringing a Graham baby who will hear conflicted stories of the great Hannibal the Cannibal. I worry that I will bring the baby here to see him, if he’s still here. And they will be raised with him in the back of their minds, always wondering what exactly went on between their parents and a serial murderer,” you whispered carefully. As you finished you turned to the door and opened it before she could say anything more.
She let you walk through the doors alone.
Hannibal was standing at the glass. It was like he knew you were coming but the look on his face betrayed him. He was surprised to see you. And even a bit relieved, you could tell. You walked up to just a few feet away from the glass and stopped.
“Your shoulder-”
“It’s okay,” you promised. You glanced down at the floor and noticed that all of his things were gone, including his desk and chair. Reminded of the days when Will was in prison, you tentatively sat down on the ground.
Hannibal watched you and stayed still for a moment. Then he sat down in front of you on the ground. You smiled gently at the gesture.
“Will told you?”
“Yes.” You looked into his eyes. You stared into them, deep into them.
“I have a feeling that you will not be here to meet them,” you stated. “I don’t know why. I just feel like something is bound to go wrong. We will catch the Dragon and then we will go home and nothing will be the same.” Hannibal watched your emotions rise and fall. Your face that he yearned to touch. He almost reached his hand up to the glass.
“What will you name them?”
“I haven’t gotten that far yet. But Will is never going to allow Hannibal, if that’s what you want,” you said laughing.
“Pity,” he said and even he was laughing a bit. “I did not tell him to hurt you.” You nodded.
“I know.” You leaned forward. “What are you going to do about it then?”
Hannibal smiled.
-
As you walked out of the room Alana gestured to you. Apparently Jack and Will were already in the building.
You walked into the room with Alana and Will stood up.
“I was worri-”
“You never would have let me come if I told you. How’s Bedelia?” He shook his head and grabbed you by the waist, kissing you on the forehead. It conveyed his worry. He turned back to Jack.
“Eight people dead in a month. We can’t play a long game. I say we go for it. You know I know it’s the best way to bait him,” Jack said. He didn’t even glance twice at you.
“You know Jack, if you had wanted me dead you didn’t have to go through all these lengths to make an attempt. Bringing Will, talking to Hannibal, calling the Dragon. It was all so extensive,” you sneered. Jack gave you a look.
“We don’t have time for this.” You slammed your hands on his Alana’s desk that he was standing behind.
“It could have been me Jack. You would’ve had to go to my funeral and sit in the front row next to my grieving husband and wonder, ‘huh could I have done something to change this outcome’. And your mind will say no and so my husband would have sat there, thinking it was his fault, for the rest of his life!” you screamed. Jack was still. He had seen you like this once before. When he arrested Will. Alana watched from where she was standing by the window, a proud look on her face.
Will was more or less scared.
“And what do you do now? What do you do now?!” you asked. “Oh yes. The only logical solution. Send Will into the fire and bait the Dragon.”
“Will suggested i-” he started but you gave him an ice cold look.
“I don’t care.”
“We’ve fooled ourselves once into believing we were in control of what was happening. Are we still under that delusion?” Alana asked. You turned to her and Will did as well and as he did so he staggered. He had seen something in his head.
“The Dragon has a certain abstract curiosity about me Y/N. All psychopaths are narcissists, they love to read about themselves. We should use Freddie.” You turned to him and he saw again whatever he had seen on Alana’s face. He grabbed your arm out of instinct.
“I’m not letting you put yourself in harm's way.”
“We’re already in harm's way. Both of us.”
“She would need to interview you,” you said. “Take your picture.”
“We’re in it now. Can’t go home as long as he’s loose. I really bad mouth the Red Dragon in Tattlecrime and then give him a shot at me.” You turned to Jack Crawford.
“If I had to choose, it would be you giving the interview. You risking your life. You.”
-
You sat on a desk. Will stood just in front of you, his leg touching your knee. You had your fingers wrapped around the underneath of the desk as you looked over at Freddie Lounds where she sat. Chilton was in front of her, Alana and Jack elsewhere in the room.
“There’s a strong bonding of aggressive and sexual drives that occurs in sadists at an early age,” Chilton said.
“He's a vicious, perverted, sexual failure. An animal,” Will stated. You stared at Will and noticed that it had caught Chilton off too. You smiled a bit at the corners of your mouth.
“The savage acts aimed primarily at the women, and performed in the presence of family, are clearly strikes at a maternal figure.”
“The Tooth Fairy’s the product of an incestuous home.” Freddie scribbled this down aggressively, eating it all up.
“This is the child of a nightmare.” Those words hung in the air for a moment. Freddie pressed the stop button on her recording.
“We need a key shot taken in your ‘Washington hideaway’,” Jack said.
“Can I flip off the camera?” you asked.
“You’re not going to be in the picture,” Will chastised. You shrugged.
“I’d love something like you in a bathrobe, at the desk, poring over an artist’s conception of the Fairy,” Freddie said, holding up an artist concept drawing of Francis. You raised an eyebrow.
“I’ll stand by the window.”
“I don’t know, the bathrobe seemed compelling to me. Maybe I’ll pick up my first copy of Tattlecrime,” you said. Will gave you a look but you just smiled. Freddie seemed to like that you agreed with her.
“Make sure you can get the fountain and the Capitol dome behind me Freddie. The Red Dragon has to be able to find this place, if he wants to,” Will finished. Freddie nodded and walked over. “Would you like to be in the picture, Frederick?”
-
Alana slid a package through Hannibal’s cage.
“May I open it privately?” he asked.
“You may not.”
She looked down at it as he started to open it. The box fell open to reveal two lips, no longer attached to their owner. Hannibal contained his surprise and anger. He took one between his fingers and straightened his backs.
“As though presents would allow me to forgive him,” Hannibal muttered but still, he put the lips between his own and ate it.
-
You stared at the screen in front of you. On it was Frederick Chilton, notably restrained. Beside you stood Will and at his desk was Jack Crawford.
“I have had a great privilege. I have seen with wonder and awe the strength of the Great Red Dragon. I lied about Him. All that was said was lies from Will Graham,” Chitlon said. You straighten your back. “He made me say them. I have blasphemed against the Dragon. Even so, the Dragon is merciful. He knows you made me lie, Will Graham. Because I was forced to lie, He will be more merciful to me than to you, Will Graham.” You hated this. Every fiber of your being hated this. You wanted to turn it off but you didn’t, you needed to see the end. “Reach behind you, Will Graham, and feel for the small knobs on the top of your pelvis. Feel your spine between them; that is the precise spot where the Dragon will snap your spine. There’s much for you to dread. From my own lips, you’ll learn a little more to dread.”
“Turn it off, Jack,” Alana said and Jack nodded, turning it off. You felt your spine all of the sudden. You were aware it was there. You felt it being tugged by a phantom force and turned to your husband, shaking your head. He stumbled back into a chair, head in his hands.
You sat in front of him and grabbed his hands. Your skin touched his face as he held your hands there, blocking his sight. You turned to Jack Crawford. If looks could kill…
-
Bedelia looked at you two. Back again, sitting together. Your shoulder slumped but otherwise seemingly unaffected. Whatever emotional tole this may have taken, you did not show it on your face.
Will on the other hand.
“Would you like to talk about what happened to Frederick Chilton?” she asked.
“The divine punishment of the sinner mirrors the sin being punished,” Will said.
“Contrapasso. If you play, you pay,” she repeated.
“Chilton languished unrecognized until Hannibal the Cannibal. He wanted the world to know his face and now, he doesn’t have one,” you said.
“We’re all making our way through the Inferno. Dante’s pilgrims,” Bedelia siad.
“We’re pets, not pilgrims. And the Great Red Dragon kills pets first,” Will muttered.
“I hate that name. I wish we knew his actual name so we could call it so. It must be something mundane, something so unassuming,” you whispered, shaking your head.
“You put a hand on Dr. Chilton’s shoulder for the picture Will. Touch gives the world an emotional context.” She gestured to the hand that was brushing yours. Not holding. Just touching. “The touch of others makes us who we are. It builds trust.”
“I put my hand on his shoulder for authenticity,” Will argued. You felt that wasn’t true but you didn’t say it.
“To establish he really told you those insults about the Dragon? Or had you wanted to put Dr. Chilton at risk? Just a little?” Bedelia questioned.
“I wonder,” Will muttered.
“Do you really have to wonder?” she questioned. He paused.
“No.”
“Did you know what the Great Red Dragon would do Will? You were curious what would happen, that’s apparent. Is this what you expected?” Will was glad you were there. He grabbed your hand fully.
“I can’t say I’m surprised.”
“Then you may as well have struck the match. That’s participation.” She studied the two of you. “Hannibal Lecter does indeed have agency in the world. He has both of you.”
-
“He did Chilton like it looked like you did Freddie Lounds. Hannibal said he would, in his own way,” Jack muttered. They stood outside of where Chilton was being taken care of, you beside him and Will.
“He wanted to make amends to Hannibal,” Will said. You crossed your arms.
“He’ll have to do better than that.” Jack walked inside of the room but before Will walked in you grabbed his arm.
“I hate this. I have a pit in my stomach and it won’t go away,” you whispered. He faced you completely and put his hand on your cheek, moving away some hair.
“That’s a baby,” he joked. You rolled your eyes but smiled.
“I mean a feeling Will.”
“It’s going to be okay. We’re going to be okay.”
You didn’t believe him.

AU-gust Day #28: Fashion & Models AU
Hannigram AU: Model No More
Fifteen years have passed since fashion designer Hannibal Lecter launched his own infamous, “Thrill Kills” line. The clothes were universally praised and heralded throughout the industry but years of the line’s build up made Hannibal lose his inspiration.
He’s spent years trying to come up with something to follow the majesty that was “Thrill Kills,” and finds himself thinking he may never have that again. Lecter Wear is still a multi-million dollar company but even the rich are starting to tire of his throw away designs.
Which is why as he’s sitting at home looking through old fashion magazines for inspiration he’s struck by the sight of one particular model. He’s young, possibly in his early twenties, and just so beautiful Hannibal cannot look away.
He finds the same model again and again that very year, fifteen years ago to be precise. The model’s name is listed as Will, and he’s wearing Bedelia Du Maurier’s clothing in Vogue magazine.
Seven calls later he’s looking up Will Graham, and finds that after his one year of modeling the man never was photographed again. Hannibal suddenly gets inspired and begins to draw Will, in many different types of men’s clothing, and by dawn he’s got a new line.
The clothes go into production immediately but Hannibal’s mind is on the fall fashion show. He must have Will, needs to showcase him, and when he has his people find the man’s address he sends a missive hoping to get one in return.
Will ignores him.
Confused and a bit worried he calls again, and again, and again.
His number is blocked despite leaving messages.
He sends clothes along with letters.
They are all sent back.
Hannibal is so distraught he flies to Wolf Trap, Virginia where he’s greeted not so very warmly by Will Graham now in his middle age and still quite beautiful.
“Get off my lawn,” Will says, holding a shotgun.
“Mr. Graham, if you would just...”
Will aims the gun at his head. “I want nothing to do with this shit, Mister. Take no for an answer.”
Hannibal backs away, startled, and just as he’s about to his car a dog comes running out into the road from Will’s open door.
“Winston, no!”
There’s a rush as a large truck comes barreling down the road almost at the same time, and Hannibal rushes forward capture the canine right in the truck’s path. He’s knocked to the asphalt as he’s hit and the truck stops.
“Get the fuck out of the...”
Will punches the driver in the face. “You almost killed him AND my dog, asshole! Get the hell out of here before I kill you myself.”
The man glares at them both and gets in the truck driving off.
Hannibal holds onto the dog, still winded, and stares up at Will.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m....a bit sore.”
He sighs. “I just picked him up last night,” he mumbles, “He’s not well trained. I didn’t...”
Will holds out his hand and helps Hannibal to his feet. His clothes are of course, ruined, and yet when Will smiles at him he couldn’t care less.
“Thank you.”
“Thank you,” Will says, petting Winston, “You saved my dog’s life.”
“You’re welcome. If you wish to repay my...chivalry...”
Will scoffs. “Did you throw yourself in front of a pickup truck just so I would model some clothes?”
“No, but if it helps...it was worth the pain. I have sketches to show you, if you’ll permit me.”
Will sighs. “Fine. Just one cup of coffee and you’re gone.”
“That sounds fair.”
“And I’ll help you get cleaned up.”
They walk into the house and Will tends to his scrapes and bruises with care. Hannibal finds himself even more enthralled by the elder version of Will than his younger self, and when he’s sufficiently mended takes out the sketches.
“Oh...it’s me.”
“Yes, you see....”
Will lifts one of the sketches up and looks at the drawing for a very long time.
“I hated doing this shoot,” he sighs, “I hated all of it, and you...you....”
“I need you for this, Will. If I did not think your face was the focal point of my vision I would not be so determined.”
Will sighs. “I...I did try on this one,” he mumbles, scratching the back of his head, “It was a little snug but...not bad.”
Hannibal smiles. “Would you allow me to see you wear the suit? I would like to very much.”
“If I do, that doesn’t mean I’m saying yes.”
“I’m well aware.”
Will nods once and leaves without another word.
Hannibal is of course excited at the thought of seeing Will in the black suit. He wants to see him in everything he’s created but just this once would be everything.
Will comes out less than fifteen minutes later, and he’s floored by the sight of him.
“Oh, Will.”
“It doesn’t fit all that well.”
Hannibal stands and comes up to him, fixing the tie. They’re very close, and Will’s cheeks pinken just enough to remind him of the young man in the old magazine photographs.
“I think it fits perfectly. You are...My Design.”
Will smiles. “I’m not saying yes.”
“Of course not.”
“But, if you, want to show me some more stuff I wouldn’t punch you in the face.”
Hannibal beams.
“Let me show you what your beauty created.”
“I’m not that kid anymore,” he says, sitting down at the chair beside him, “I work on boat motors, I have seven dogs, and I’m not...I’m not this.”
Hannibal puts his hand on Will’s. “No, Will....you’re better. I cannot wait to show you off to the world. If you’ll allow me the privilege.”
Will blushes again. “Just show me the damn sketches, Mr. Lecter. I’m not making any promises. No matter how many times you throw yourself in the street.”
Hannibal smiles. “I am quite durable, and...very persistent.”
“Oh I know, Mr. Lecter. I know.”
“Call me, Hannibal.”
“Okay Hannibal,” Will says, leaning back in the chair and looking like the the devil in disguise, “Show me what you got.”
“With pleasure.”

I understand disliking a character..but you realize anything that happens to bedelia in context of the show is driven by hannibal, right? the man you ship her with? the stinger, her fear, all that necessitates her self preservation is instigated by hannibal. the show frequently did a disservice to its female chars, but hannibal was the tool they used to do it. denying that and then shipping him w/ your fav only to turn it around on another char seems...hypocritical.
Ahh yes, some good ol’ anon hate, I missed that. Honestly, perfect timing, I am having the worst of times and getting to talk about my favs literally saved my day. So thanks!
First of all, Bedelia and Hannibal are a canon ship, whether you like it or not, so let’s get that out of the way (as opposite to certain other ship but that is a whole other thing). I merely fill in the blanks of what the show failed to provide because, for some inexplicable reason, the show named “Hannibal” was centered on a character named Will and every other character (especially the female characters) served only to further his “man pain”. But I digress, that is surely not why you chose to hide behind that grey square.
I don’t know whether you follow me or just saw that one reblog (which ironically weren’t even my words but I stand fully behind everything said), but I have already spoken about this extensively. Every day, really. I find it hard to understand how something is hypocritical when it is based on canon information. I am not denying anything. So here we go, under the cut, because I have a LOT to say:
The stinger- oh god, you all know how much I hate it. First of all, there is no proof that Hannibal is involved, we don’t know who is involved, that is kinda the point of a cliff hanger. We don’t even know if it’s real. But it’s absolutely pointless and makes no sense! It was quite literally Fuller wanting to do something “shocking” to finish off the series without any regard to continuity or characterisation. It was supposed to be shocking and look aesthetically pleasing, that’s it, no logic. It is as if he looked at the character list and thought “hmm, which female character is yet to be hurt? Oh right, Bedelia!” The so called “punishing Bedelia” as the fandom loved so very much is mere misogyny. Why can’t a female character do something morally questionable or even plain evil and get away with it? Because Will didn’t that is why. If she were a man, no one would scream for “she has it coming”, no, he would be uwu baby.
Having Hannibal involved in that would be completely out of character and contradictory to all their previous interactions/ their relationship. So let’s expand, shall we?
When we first see Bedelia and Hannibal, it is mentioned that she has been his psychiatrist for 7 years. 7 YEARS, let that sink in. No one, NO ONE, has been in Hannibal’s life for such a long time. It is clear she means a lot to him. If she didn’t, he had plenty of chances to kill her. It is established she is a loner, so it would so easy for Hannibal to dispose of her and claim “she left to UK” or something, like he did with his secretary. But he didn’t because he cares for her and she is important to him. He literally says he feels protective of her. Every session, you can see how much he needs her approval and how he hangs on her every word. How hurt he was when she said she wasn’t his friend (and yet he did nothing). How enamoured he is with her. When he comes to bring her dinner in Savoureaux, the dish included roses! Such a romantic.
Hannibal knew Bedelia was similar to him that is why he set up the whole Neil incident; he wanted to make sure she is. Do note that Bedelia wasn’t ever in danger, since Hannibal was there to step in if needed. But here is what I’ve found interesting; Bedelia killed someone, proving Hannibal’s hunch right, but she refused to fully acknowledge that part of herself. And Hannibal let her withdraw, doing nothing (as in not killing her, as I’m sure he had done many times with unsuccessful “candidates”) merely securing her continuous therapy. Because she was more than just another experiment to him.
And Bedelia isn’t so innocent in other aspects as well. She knows, yet she purposely evades the truth while talking to the FBI (“Will could use friends like Hannibal” ha!) under the cover of patient/ doctor confidentiality and even warns Hannibal directly (“they are starting to see your pattern). I have had my fair share of “Bedelia doesn’t care for Hannibal” posts and nothing could be further from the truth. If she hadn’t cared, she would not have done any of that.
But then of course, Hannibal’s game goes one step too far and he gives her the written permission to discuss him with the FBI. This is bad for Bedelia because it puts her under the scrutiny as well and that is not where she wants to be. Bedelia’s self-preservation always comes first (both Bedelia and Hannibal are egocentric by nature). Yet, she still comes to say goodbye to him and he lets her go! The script described Hannibal’s reaction to her words as “imperceivable wound”. “But he then went to kill her!” I hear you say? *Thor’s gif* Did he though? If he wanted to kill her, he would have done it then and there. No, he went to check if she were really gone (again, script) and whether she betrayed him. That was his only concern (betrayal is a big thing with Hannibal), but she didn’t. She even left him a memento. It said it was a memento of friendship, I think it was a “see you later” card.
This is getting super long, so let’s quickly skip to Florence. Bedelia left with Hannibal, knowing exactly who he was. Unlike other (all of them, actually) characters, she did not reject him/ was scared of him. “You let them see you/ I let them see enough” exchange says it all. She is not surprised by him or shocked by what he is; she is merely stating the facts. She has long accepted him in full. They lived together in Florence, openly behind the so called veil, as fake husband and wife, but the wedding rings remained intact even at home (showing how important it was to them, not just a front), displaying a ridiculous amount of domesticity and intimacy. This deserves a whole separate post but I am trying to be brief(er). “But she was scared!” you might shout again, except that she wasn’t. Even if Antipasto purposely played with the ambiguity of her situation for suspense purposes, the following episodes made it clear she was exactly where she wanted to be, from the very start, on her own terms as Hannibal’s equal. We were obviously misled by the promos, they promised us a Bedelia and Hannibal show and what we got was, well, you know… And that is yet another post altogether.
Now to the glorious farewell, boy, do I love to talk about that. Bedelia packs Hannibal’s bags and tells him to leave, and he does! What more, he promises to tell her story. HER STORY. Now, that is a major thing, because Hannibal has never ever done that for anyone. He always turns other people’s stories into his own, manipulating and adjusting accordingly. But with Bedelia, he simply agrees to do it, on her own terms. Not only that, he is visibly impressed and enamoured by her. Again, if he wanted to kill her, he could have just killed her then. He was going to get caught anyway, what is one more murder? All this “he waited until he could eat her” story makes no sense at all, since as it was already mentioned, he knew her for almost a decade, plenty of time to eat her if he wanted to. He lets her go because he wants to. Because he cares for her.
The point I have made several times is that Bedelia is the only person that Hannibal treats as, well, a person! Everyone else is beneath him, meat only if you will, but not her. Even the ever so special (apparently) Will and Abigail aren’t treated as “people”. Bedelia is the only person that Hannibal respects; that is what makes her so special. Not love (even though he obviously loves her), because respect is rarer for Hannibal than love. Sure, he “loves” Will, the same way you love your favourite book. You want to have it and you don’t want anyone else to have it, but you don’t expect the book to return your feelings. Bedelia is Hannibal’s only equal.
The Red Dragon arc was a mess of epic proportions so I don’t even want to get into that. But I do appreciate the acknowledgement of Bedelia’s darker side and now she has become comfortable with it since Florence. Let’s make a few notes so it doesn’t look as if I am purposely omitting things: Hannibal’s letters to Bedelia? Clearly a part of his “telling her story” and helping her cover, plus he was not able to send her proper letters, so that is his way of telling her he thinks of her. Sessions with Will? You can’t really take everything she told him at face value, she is obfuscating after all. Why would she be honest with Will? She wouldn’t be, she was just continuing what Hannibal has started with much better results (slightly too good actually, as proven by Will’s stupid plan). Bedelia wasn’t afraid Hannibal would come after her, because she had no reasons to be. NONE. She was protected by him.
So there you have it, the great many reasons why I am so unapologetic in my shipping. Because it is all there. Thank you for reminding me why I love these two so much! Have a great day, maybe next time you can message me off anon.
(And thanks to all who got to the end of this almost dissertation, this is my testament, I love you all fellow bedannibal fans!)

Fannibal Appreciation Day #FannibalFicRecs: Supernatural Elements Edition
After the success of this post for @hannibalficwriters and because there’s never enough fic rec posts, I decided to provide another list of stories I personally recommend, this time around focusing my attention on stories which contains supernatural elements. I know anyone can see my bookmarks whenever they want and I know it’s been a while since the last time I did something like this, but the Fannibal Appreciation Day seemed a perfect occasion to remember everybody how much of a beautiful, creative group of writers we are. This is a day to show our love, to send some good vibes, to share our appreciation to those who make this fandom a better place, who dedicate their time to have a good time and improve my own, along with that of many, many other fannibals like me :) This is my humble offering to your talent and to your presence, you gave me something I wouldn’t find anywhere else in the world.
Altered perceptions » Colourless by @mazephoenix
Summary: Since Hannibal vanished Will has lost his ability to see color.
Mature
Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter
This brief post-WoTL story portrays the intense ache Will would experience, were he to lose Hannibal after their experience with the Red Dragon. Will could come back home, to his house, to his dogs, eventually to his work, but the world would never be the same. Not without that unique soul that depicted every else in his life in bright light.
Biological Abnormalities » Nature and Nurture (ongoing serie) by @thenecronon
Summary: In which Will’s empathy is more than a quirk of his biology, and his biology is more than human.
Explicit

Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter, Franklyn Froideveaux, Donald Sutcliffe
I learned to love this writer with this amazing, fucked up story, and here I am, coming back at it full force to recommend anyone with a stomach for oviposition to read it and its sequel. Neither Will nor Hannibal know what happens in Will’s body, which regularly sends Will into heat and produces unidentified substances, they just know they’ll see where their close encounter will lead.
Cursed objects » The Feast is Life by @rubybakeneko
Summary: Following an impulsive purchase, Will begins to dream of a man who makes him feel less alone. In time, he realizes that these aren’t just dreams—they’re interactions with someone (or something) real. Hannibal offers Will the possibility of a life together, but it will come at a price.

Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter, Alana Bloom, Abigail Hobbs, Will Graham’s Dogs
Will knows loneliness intimately, it has been with him all his life. Presented with the chance to depart from its vicious grip, Will doesn’t realize his desire for companionship is so strong as to make him a vulnerable target for manipulative individuals like Hannibal. He’ll learn that trusting someone that makes you feel right might eventually make you realise how wicked you’ve been all along.
Devil » Unveiled by @beatricenius
Summary: Hannibal meets a stranger in a bar who claims to be the devil. He just might believe it.
Explicit
Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter
This delightful story features two non-human creatures exploring intimacy in their human bodies and feelings. The author pictures with clarity the way they study the way the other handles his drink, their lazy chat around something more than a simple rendezvous in an insignificant bar, their dismissive gesture to show it’s not important if, by the end of the night, there’ll be sex at all.
Dragons » Headwaters by @whreflections
Summary: Years ago, Mischa Lecter fled the Nazis with the rest of her family, leaving behind their home, Castle Lecter, and the lesser god that inhabited it- Hannibal, a dark but immensely loyal creature who had served their family for generations. He adored her, more than all the others, and would have kept her with him forever. Instead, he lost her, and has admitted no one to the house since. After his grandmother's death, though, Will Graham doesn't really have anywhere to call home. With all the stories she told him about growing up in Castle Lecter (and about Hannibal, most of all), he can't pass up the chance that he just might belong somewhere after all.
Teen and Up Audience
Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Hannibal Lecter, Will Graham, Mischa Lecter
I already promoted this beautiful work, but I’ll repeat myself if necessary. This delicate story portrays Hannibal and his painful ties with the Lecter castle he can’t abandon. His loyalty compels him to remain in its domain, where Will is going to find him, so that he’ll be able to put an end to their solitude. Mischa couldn’t remain with him forever, but maybe he’ll not be lonely anymore.
Faeries » My crown on the head of a creature (ongoing) by Mx_Carter
Summary: The faery that calls itself Hannibal Lecter happens across a homeless Will Graham on a cold evening and offers him a bed for the night. Things... escalate.
Mature

Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter
In this beautiful, promissing Universe, supernatural elements and suspance mingle in a captivating combination. Will is wary of accepting Hannibal’s ospitality, despite the cold winder freezing his bones. He just doens’t suspect Hannibal’s true nature, which Will knows intimately. If he learned something from his previous experience with faes, it’s that they cannot be trusted.
Familiars » Dodging the dog by @fhimechan
Summary: AU where Will and Hannibal try to kill each other by proxy, but “proxy” means “deadly animals.”
General Audience

Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter, Will Graham’s Dogs, Beverly Katz
This certainly isn’t the classic way to murder, for either of our beloved murderers, but I can grant you it would have been a much funnier show if Will started trying to murder Hannibal through unconventional means, like he does in this story. The animals aren’t actual familiars, but their role is quite similiar. Will’s reckoning has never been furrier.
Ghosts » Let us pray that hell may not separate us by @soyonscruels
Summary: “Pure empathy,” says Hannibal Lecter, and it will be some time before he realises his mistake. “Pure empathy,” lies Will Graham, in careful agreement, and knows that it’s only a matter of time before he’s found out. “That must be quite a burden to bear,” says Hannibal, and Will meets his eyes, sips his tea, and knows, for once in his life, that he is not the only liar in the room.
Explicit
Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter, Abigail Hobbs, Freddie Lounds, Beverly Katz, Jack Crawford
This delicate rendition of Will’s surreal existence, made up of lies and isolation, shows his deep, twisted desire to stop hiding himself. He’s always been the way he is, able to see without withdrawing, he just needs to find someone to understand him as clearly. Will’s life has been a ghost story, with himself as protagonist, until Hannibal came around.
Kitsunes » Breath and Blood and Burning by @thesilverqueenlady
Summary: It’s true that originally Hannibal had had no intention of interacting with Will Graham besides toying with him for the small pleasure it would bring him before Hannibal moves on to the next skin, the next name, the next tail. And then Will stomps away shouting about field kabuki, and, really, that was too great an opportunity for Hannibal to pass up. So Hannibal does the reasonable thing and starts the arduous process of turning Will into a fellow kitsune.

Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter
Will’s becoming has always been matter of great interest. Hannibal has tried to show him his great potential with his means. In this story, Hannibal sees in Will the potential to become a secular creature capable of surviving time and changes, if only Will abandons his human nature. Hannibal is eager to bend it, to gain a worthy companion.
Mutants » Lot 166 by @highermagic
Summary: Mutant trade is a legal activity. Hannibal has never been inclined to buy one for himself, but then Jack asks him to attend a Verger auction to acquire a special asset for the FBI. What he gets is Will, one of Mason’s “Special Projects.” Whether Will can be useful to the FBI remains to be seen, but now Hannibal legally owns a mutant slave, and things promise to get very... messy.

Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Jack Crawford, Hannibal Lecter, Will Graham, Margot Verger, Mason Verger, Alana Bloom, Beverly Katz, Jimmy Price, Brian Zeller, Eva, Bedelia Du Maurier, Anthony Dimmond, Doctor Sutcliffe, Francis Dolarhyde, Dr. Cordell Doemling
Hannibal cannot resist his curiosity, when he’s presented with a mysterious individual with no warnings on his label. Hannibal doesn’t know exactly in what’s he’s getting involved, but unraveling Will’s abilities is not as immediate as it would be with other mutants and Hannibal is nothing if not patient, especially if Will proves himself as interesting as he seems.
Powers » To Welcome in the Year by @coloredink
Summary: Dr. Hannibal Lecter can control time in small, localized ways, but he no longer uses it in surgery; Will Graham can repair small objects, but he works for the FBI. It has been winter for as long as anyone can remember. That's how the story begins.
Teen And Up Audiences

Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter, Abigail Hobbs
In this beautiful retelling of the first two seasons, where the use one has for his own ability is more telling than the ability itself, Hannibal is surprised that Will never considered not to use his gift, wasting what good would be lost. A metaphorical scenario where forgiveness comes with the weight of a physical touch and the cold engulfing them both is not merely a figure of speech.
Serendipity » Astronomical Odds by @xzombiexkittenx
Summary: Based on the joke: Picked up a hitchhiker last night. He said, “Thanks! how do you know I’m not a serial killer though?” I replied, “The chances of two serial killers being in the same car are astronomical.”

Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter
Considering the little chances of such a meeting ever occurring, I deliberately decided that fate has something to do with this fortunate encounter. How else would Will find Hannibal so interesting so soon? Will has never been a fortunate man in his life, if one watches the serie, but in this story he might have the chance to obtain some happines without compromissing his already dark moral.
Time rewind » At First Meeting by @emungere
Summary: Will relives the day he met Hannibal.
Teen And Up Audiences
Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter
Despite the pain, the suffering and the anger that paved Will and Hannibal’s friendship, which Hannibal embraced and fostered much sooner than Will did, there’s not a different world or reality as fulfilling as that where Will ends up in Hannibal’s arms, bloody and victorious. No matter how many opportunities Will had at his disposal. He couldn’t be satisfied with anything less than his version.
Transformations » Velvet by @avegetariancannibal
Summary: After the fall, a transformation takes place.

Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter
Assisting Hannibal in his time of need, bloody and bedridden, Will realizes their survival is real, as are the changings happening to themy. Some manifest themselves more physically cumbersome than others. Will needs more pillows than he expected in his new existence, but it’s ok. Neither Hannibal nor himself are to experience alone whatever the future holds for the both of them.
Vampires » Mythics - Prelude by @bokuno-jinsei
Summary: Will is a hunter of mythical creatures, employed to bring mythics who fail to adhere to the new laws and order of society in to justice. When a falsified contract leads him to Hannibal’s doorstep, however, things become rather complicated. But honestly, when it’s a world of demons and monsters and magic, when are things not complicated?

Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter, Abigail Hobbs, Alana Bloom, Jack Crawford
In a darkish steampunk scenario, where Hannibal is a vampire and Will hunts those of his kind, where mythical creature and humans are still to find their balance in a civil society, chaos seems to engulf everyone in its thick fog of confusion. This writer beautifully captures Will’s attempts at navigating his way between subtle lies and unstable suppositions.
Werewolves » Beasts (ongoing) by @aametis
Summary: Hannibal tells a lie about his sex life and has to live with the consequences. Will doesn’t lie but he doesn’t tell the truth either.

Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter, Original Male Character
Trusting Hannibal even outside of his psychiatric office, Will decides to show hims something incredible, something rather personal and disturbing to witness. To his luck, Hannibal hardly shies away from what he doesn’t understand. His ability to observe with interest, without judging Will for his choices, is probably everything Will has ever wanted from another human being.
Wishbabies » With a Crown of Stars by @thehoyden
Summary: When the call connects, Will says, “I know what kind of crazy I am, but I’m not this kind of crazy.” “Will?” Dr. Lecter says. “Yes, hi, sorry,” Will says. “It’s me. There’s a baby on my porch.”

When two people want to make a baby and it's not happening biologically, if they wish very, very hard-- well, Will and Hannibal didn’t know, but apparently they wanted one, so here they are and Hannibal suddenly feel like treating that encephalitis. There are in fact means of influence other than violence, family is a concept the both of them need to explore together.
Witches » A Soft Hoodwink of Shadows (serie) by @zigzag-wanderer
Summary: Something a little creepy...
Mature
Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Will Graham, Will Graham’s Dogs, Hannibal Lecter, Abigail Hobbs, Jack Crawford, Original Female Character(s)
The real magic elements in this work are the wonderful descriptions of this impressive, poetic author, whom conjures entire landscapes of green and grim, of silence and mist, the kind where one gets lost and is never to be found again. Will escapes with his daughter somewhere far away, somewhere where strange is normal, but he discovers something stranger waits for him right next door.
This is kind of personal, I included writers with whom I daily interacted, whose beautiful souls I saw, among those who have been in this fandom from the beginning and never left it. I’m just sorry I mostly read Hannigraham and I don’t have more names to offer.
I cannot thank enough all those rebloggers who allowed my followers to know I existed, like @h4nnibalism or @crisisoninfintefandoms, all those gifted authors who help @fhimechan and me with the Accidental Sex initiative, all those artists and groups that provide new material despite our interrupted situation, all those patient readers who comment and like my own works, as well as those considerate souls that actually rec my stories or calling me out on their Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day, like @hannibalsimago and @littlethingwithfeathers, so that I feel appreciated in turn.
As @the-winnowing-wind said, this is a beautiful day to flail about our incredible fandom. To whomever still has to come, You’re welcome. To whomever is still here after all this time, Thank you. You made so many of my days.

We’re finally at the main course of this extended French banquet that makes up the episodes of Season 1. This episode is called Rôti, which means roast. The dead animals are coming out of hot, dark ovens, cooked, carved, and being eaten. And the accompanying sauce is a healthy dose of Existentialism, Hannibal Lecter style.
This episode is all about identity, and identity is all about existence: what is real, what exists and how can we be sure? Here is Sartre’s view of existence from the novel Nausea: the character who sees himself usually as a man named Roquentin, sitting under what seems to be a chestnut tree:
…the diversity of things, their individuality, were only an appearance, a veneer. This veneer had melted, leaving soft, monstrous lumps, in disorder — naked, with a frightful and obscene nakedness.
Roquentin concludes “My existence was beginning to cause me some concern. Was I a mere figment of the imagination?”
Most of the characters are losing their footing in this episode, and some are losing all touch with reality.
Abel Gideon has lost touch with his identity. Thanks to Dr Chilton’s “psychic driving”, Gideon came to believe he was the Chesapeake Ripper. Of course he isn’t – that’s Hannibal, and Hannibal is none too pleased to have someone else take credit for his ‘work’. Hannibal discusses the situation with Chilton over dinner: Kudal, a sheep gut curry. Lots of useful metaphors in this dish – guts because we are getting inside all the characters at last, and sheep? Well, sheep are used (rather unfairly IMHO) as allegories of blind obedience – going where the leader goes, following without question. Chilton thinks psychic driving is something of this sort – lead the patient to the conclusion you have already drawn.
Hannibal points out that Gideon was an ideal patient to be manipulated:
Chilton suggests Gideon is a psychopath, but Hannibal squashes this idea:
So, if Gideon is not really a psychopath, he is just a common killer, a domestic violence offender who went over the edge into serial killer. Chilton told him he was the Ripper. Alana then told him he was not in a state of mind to know who he was.
Chilton feels like his is going to be blamed (especially since Gideon is planning to sue him). Gideon escapes, as he is hoping to attract the real Ripper, who, he hopes, will tell him who he really is, but Will understands that the Ripper will kill Gideon, for taking credit for his ‘work’.
Realising Gideon is not the Ripper, Chilton just wishes he had been more curious about how common minds work. Hannibal replies:
Thus, the sheep’s gut curry.
The psychic driving didn’t work as hoped, Hannibal tells Chilton, because, once a patient is exposed to the methods of manipulation, he will push back.
Will Graham is not aware of Hannibal’s manipulation, or of his now chronic encephalitis. He is having nightmares about water: tsunamis of water at crime scenes, melting clocks à la Dali, hallucinations of water pouring down the walls in the BAU. He imagines Jack is accusing him, Will, of being the killer they seek.
Will is lost. He feels crazy. Is that your worst fear, asks Hannibal?
Gideon’s battle with identity is brought into focus when he kidnaps Freddie Lounds, so that she can document his vengeance on Chilton, and draw the Ripper, who he knows is an “avid fan” of Freddie’s journalism (the term “avid fan” is from the book and movies of Red Dragon).
Gideon describes his existential crisis to Freddie.
He then proceeds to open up Chilton and remove an amazing number of his organs, without actually killing him:
When the FBI bursts in, Freddie is keeping Chilton alive, and Gideon has gone. Will is waiting in Gideon’s car, and takes him, not to the FBI, but to Hannibal’s home. Why? He is convinced that this is not Gideon he has captured, but his dead nemesis, Garret Jacob Hobbs. Hannibal helpfully tells him that there is no one there at all, which tips Will right over the deep end of his identity/existential crisis:
Will has what Hannibal describes as a “mild seizure” and questions Gideon about whether he is the man who claimed to be the Ripper. Why “claimed”?
He sends Gideon off to hunt Alana. He then tricks Will into going after Gideon. They meet up, two lost souls seeking identity.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
At the end, we have the fascinating session of Hannibal with his psychiatrist, Bedelia. He tells her that Will is troubled, that Hannibal sees his madness and wants to contain it, like an oil spill. Oil, she tells him, is valuable, what is the value to Hannibal of Will’s madness?
And finally we come to the crux of Hannibal’s own identity crisis. He is not the loner that he likes to affect.
Bedelia asks “Do you see yourself in his madness?”
They discuss side-effects, that they can be temporary, or can be beneficial:
Will does not present Hannibal with problems from normal life. What does he present?
Now we’re talking abandoned identities!

Nancy McKeon is sorry about the sudden whirring sound. She has a protein shake to make, perhaps more cheerfully than one has ever blended a smoothie before, seeing as she's in the heart of rehearsing for her Dancing With the Stars debut.
Best known for her role as Jo Polniaczek on the hit '80s sitcom The Facts of Life, McKeon is so nice it's a good thing her return to TV is on DWTS and not Big Brother. The 52-year-old actress is self-deprecating about her dancing skills, utters "Good gravy!" when surprised, enjoys getting schooled on both footwork and social media from her pro partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, and, I'm convinced, secretly bakes chocolate chip cookies for her fellow competitors. If this sounds a lot like your mom, that's probably because McKeon took nearly 15 years off to focus on raising her daughters, 14-year-old Aurora and 11-year-old Harlow, whom she shares with husband Marc Andrus.
The break was well deserved. McKeon started working when she was two, first as a child model and commercial actor before scoring roles on TV, and was acting up until the seventh month of her first pregnancy. "I just love what I do, but I have been given this amazing gift of my husband and my children, and I didn't want to not be there for this small amount of time you get with them," she tells ET. "I can't even believe when I say 15 years. It just feels like a nanosecond. I really wanted to give them all my attention that they deserve."
Though she had a handful of smaller, carefully chosen roles, DWTS will be McKeon's first big return to the spotlight since her Lifetime detective drama, The Division, wrapped in 2004, and she knows you're probably surprised to see her name on the list of season 27 competitors. "This isn't something that I would normally do. It really is outside my comfort zone," she admits.
If it weren't for an important family meeting, she may not have even strapped on dance shoes. "The way to affect change in your life is to move beyond your comfort zone, so I had this conversation with [my daughters] and they said, 'Mom, this is going to be great. You can do it.' Having them as my support team and cheerleaders is extraordinary," she says. "As a mom, I can tell them to be brave and I can say, 'This is how you should be,' but sometimes there's no more powerful demonstration than actually doing it. So I just decided, you know what, I'm going to scare the living life out of myself and say yes and just show up every day and see what happens. Everything changes and moves you, so I'm also excited about all the changes and the different things that I'm learning in this venture as well."
She may have found the perfect partner-in-crime in Chmerkovskiy. Not only is there a clear chemistry and sense of humor between the two already, but McKeon is pretty sure they've settled on the team name of "McVal." "I got top billing so I gave him an extra letter," she jokes.
McKeon has zero dance experience and, despite doing hot yoga regularly and living on a ranch where she averages four to seven miles of walking a day, she says none of her previous roles have helped prep her for DWTS. "I don't think anything can prepare your feet for being crammed into a high heel and then dance across a stage," she says. On top of that, social media wasn't a part of the TV landscape the last time she was here.
Luckily, Chmerkovskiy is an excellent teacher. So far, the pair has put in about two weeks of rehearsals. McKeon feels they're doing well as they run their steps and get their stamina up for the big, first number, and her partner is giving her some very important advice during what she calls "a master class every day." "'Don't have the terror look.' That's a big one," McKeon says. "He said, 'Look at me, but not with those eyes that are scared. Smile! Enjoy!' I love him for doing that because when I work, it's focus and concentration. The last [acting projects] had been drama and prepping for that, and this really needs to just be fun."
McKeon says her and Chmerkovskiy's goal for week one is "just sheer fun and love." This is partially to provide some escapism for fans during these tumultuous times but also because, on a personal level, if she's going to leave her family, it needed to be for a good reason.
"[My daughters] are everything to me, and without them and my amazing husband, then nothing really does have much meaning. I've worked a lot and this is really the first time I've gone away and am spending a lot of time doing something," she reveals. "It's uncomfortable because I miss them, but somewhere [down the line], I think this might be very helpful in our conversations as our lives go on, and I'm interested to see where all that lands too."
"It's funny, you maybe wouldn't put a dancing show or something like that in this sort of category, but it really is a lot more than just dancing," she adds. "You develop this wonderful friendship and partnership with, in my particular case, Val. He's awesome and everybody loves him. I think I feel even more pressure now because he's the show's national treasure, but so far I'm thrilled that people seem to be OK with him being partnered with me!"
Holding family as the most important pillar has been essential in helping the dancing partners connect. Though she hasn't met Chmerkovskiy's brother, Maksim, as he's not competing this season, McKeon has met his fiancee, fellow DWTS pro Jenna Johnson, whom she describes as "dear," "beautiful" and "sweet." McKeon has even dished out some excellent advice for Chmerkovskiy and Johnson's pending nuptials.
"I told him to enjoy the day. I've been married for 15 years, and I can still look back and remember every single moment of [my wedding] day. It was just about 20 people and it was our day, and it was one of the best days of my life," she recalls. "So, my advice to him was, 'It's just got to be about the two of you. After all, the rest of your life is about the two of you.' That's what I did -- there was no stress, no pressure, and it was really amazing. Other than that, I think everyone figures it out for themselves!"
Johnson has popped by rehearsals, bringing smoothies or simply saying hello and providing encouragement, which has helped McKeon have a bit of that familial grounding while away from home. "The family you get welcomed into on this show is extraordinary. Everybody -- from the guys who help you park in the morning and our security to the producing teams -- they literally are all happy to be there and they're rooting for everybody," she explains. "I have never felt like an outsider from day one. What a great thing! I love the atmosphere they've created. Yeah, it's a competition, but everyone's cheering everybody else on too."
McKeon will have some very important faces in the crowd when season 27 kicks off on Sept. 24. Her daughters and husband will be there (she joked that they better be, just in case there's no week two for her!), as well as actress Lisa Vidal, her best friend since they were partnered up on The Division, which also starred then-unknowns Jon Hamm and Taraji P. Henson, along with Parenthood's Bonnie Bedelia.
"I told her, 'Mama, you're going to have to help me with some kind of cha-cha or salsa,'" McKeon says of Vidal. "Lisa is like a sister, but that whole cast -- it really was one of the best times of my life. I loved everybody on that show. We were all supportive of each other and to watch Jon blossom and Taraji just shatter it is so beautiful… It's so exciting to watch such good people get to do what they love to do and just crush it. They're amazing people. It's a joy for me to be an uber fan because [after the show ended], I got to be with the most important people, which is my kiddos and my hubby."
McKeon is the first to admit she's been blessed to work with some incredible people throughout her career. She famously acted alongside Michael J. Fox in the '80s, as well as Mariska Hargitay and Jean Smart in the short-lived sitcoms Can't Hurry Love and Style & Substance, respectively, plus she did take some time out from being a stay-at-home mom to play Demi Lovato's mother on the Disney Channel show, Sonny With a Chance, from 2009-2010.
Though the two haven't spoken in some time, McKeon only had kind words for Lovato, who suffered a relapse and apparent overdose earlier this summer
"I wouldn't presume. I can only send all my love. She seems to be incredibly smart… It was a difficult time during that show and things kind of went on, but I can tell you in my experience, she was genuinely lovely to me and to my girls, who were much younger at the time and very excited to meet her," McKeon says of her onscreen daughter. "I have every confidence that she's going to come back stronger and in a way that is the best for her. She deserves that."
McKeon was side-by-side another big actor during their early days, one whom she gets asked about a lot: George Clooney, whose first real TV experience was as a handyman on The Facts of Life. Though his time with them was short, McKeon says she would see him working on another show on the lot and they remained friends. "He's everything you want him to be," she happily reveals. "He's fun, an incredible talent, and he's loyal as the day is long. He deserves all good things and it looks like that's exactly what he's gotten."
The most important connection she has from those sitcom days, however, was with Charlotte Rae, who portrayed the beloved, wise-cracking redheaded housemother of the fictional Eastland School. She died in early August at age 92 after a series of illnesses, and McKeon chokes up when thinking about her beloved friend.
"That's a hard one for me. It's soon," she says slowly. "Charlotte's one of the most remarkable people I've ever met in my life and we were actually very good friends. If I was in L.A., we were always together and if I wasn't, I came in, even if it was just to see her. She's been at my ranch and hung out with the girls and myself, and I will always be the luckiest person and a much better person for having had her in my life."
The women of The Facts of Life still keep in touch. In fact, McKeon has been texting with Kim Fields, as the actress known as Tootsie danced with pro Sasha Farber in season 22 of DWTS. Though McKeon hasn't watched every season of the dance competition show, she did watch Fields and Farber compete "with joy and amazement."
"She just knocked it out of the park. She's just so amazing. We've been texting and I said, 'Really? Did you have to set the bar this high? Girlfriend, I don't know if I can live up [to that].' She's just a doll and supportive," McKeon says, adding that she's gone back to watch some of Chmerkovskiy's dances with previous partners but had to stop "because he's so good" and didn’t want to get stuck in a brain warp comparing herself to others.
In fact, Fields' best advice had nothing to do with the dancing itself. "'Have fun. Enjoy this week, this day, this rehearsal. Try not to look ahead.' For me, I think that's awesome advice because it's really just got to be about the journey," McKeon says. "There's some amazing people dancing, so it's really not about an end result for me. What I'm looking for is the best I can do on every single day."
"It doesn't matter how sore [I am] -- get up, go back, fight the good fight the next day," she continues. "Have some smile, as my partner would say, and just enjoy that day, because none of us can possibly predict how long any of us have."
Season 27 of Dancing With the Stars kicks off Monday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

Everything changes and moves you, so I'm also excited about all the changes and the different things that I'm learning in this venture as well.'
Though the two haven't spoken in some time, McKeon only had kind words for Lovato, who suffered a relapse and apparent overdose earlier this summer.
'He's everything you want him to be," she happily reveals.

This is something that you should read. All the way through.
A physician hospitalist colleague posted this today regarding what the average person has at stake in healthcare reform and the domino effect of Medicaid cuts:
Hi there Average Person,
We probably haven't met. Mostly, I meet really sick elderly people when they come to my hospital. Not for tea, but for high quality inpatient medical care. You being an average person and all, we likely haven't had the pleasure of the 7am exam in which I poke and prod you and then ask you weird personal questions. ("Why the hell does she care so much about my poop?" "I do, average person. I care... regretfully for me and somewhat embarrassingly for you. But it's my job.") since we haven't met before, I thought I'd write you this letter about a topic that is important to both of us. It would seem that many people don't understand Medicaid. You may well be one of them. And even if you are not, please humor me. I promise that it will be worth it. Grab a beverage and put your feet up. This will be long. Long but so very important to Y.O.U. Many people think that Medicaid is only for poor people who are not working. And yes, it does cover some people in that category. As Conway recently said, they can just get a job. Amiright? Slackers. Damn toddlers and 98 year olds should be working for their medical insurance. Wait, what?! Yeah, Ms Conway <shockingly> got that statistic wrong. As did you. Did you know that Medicaid pays for about 50% of nursing home stays? Did you know that if your elderly relative breaks her hip or has a stroke etc, that Medicaid is the insurance that will be used 50% of the time to pay for their stay in a nursing home for rehab? This is one reason that the senate's healthcare bill is so destructive. Cuts to Medicaid (making it per capita and ending the expansion) will greatly impact the elderly in nursing homes. And it will impact YOU! Let's get real here. A lot of people think that they have no skin in this game. They have employer based insurance and live a healthy lifestyle. They are young enough with no bad health issues. They make a comfortable salary. So let's forget about helping less fortunate people. Forget helping sick kids. Forget helping the elderly. Forget helping the disabled. I get it. You think that you won't be affected by this bill. But you are wrong. Do you have a parent? Do you have a grandparent? An elderly aunt or uncle? As a doctor, I can tell you that old people fall and break bones. Old people have strokes. Old people have heart attacks. Old people get dementia and are too confused to take care of themselves. Heck, old people get colds and end up in the hospital, weak and infirm. And after their hospital stay in which those issues were patched up, cared for by yours truly, those elderly patients (your relatives) are ready for discharge. Where to? Well, if it was a serious malady, usually not home. They can't care for themselves. They are too weak. They need a month or more of rehab to regain that ability. Sadly, sometimes they never do. That rehab usually takes place at a skilled nursing facility. These magical places are usually covered in part by Medicare and supplementary private insurance. But at an average of $10,000 a month or more, those benefits quickly run out. And then your loved one will quickly blow through their savings. And that's where Medicaid comes in. Medicaid ends up paying for about 50% of nursing home costs. It is a major factor in the care of elderly people in nursing homes. The senate, in their infinite wisdom, has seen fit to make drastic cuts to Medicaid. Meaning that those benefits will not be there for your Nana or Mom or Great Aunt Cecelia when they fall and break a hip. What does that mean? It means that your elderly relative will have to pay out of pocket for nursing home care. That's $10,000 a month. Does your Dad have that in his savings? Guess who the nursing home is going to come to for payment? Y.O.U. Do you have an extra $10,000 a month to pay for your Dad's nursing home? No? Well then, he's going to be discharged home. He can't care for himself, so that means he is going to be discharged home to your spare room! And since he can't care for himself, you're going to have to do the caring. You know, the stuff a nursing home has 24 hour specialty trained staff to do with expensive equipment like hydraulic patient lifts. Not to mention the rehab therapy that your dad needs to regain his ability to care for himself. Are you going to do physical therapy with him? How about feeding him after the stroke? How about bathing and cleaning him? How about moving him every hour so he doesn't develop bed sores? And during all of that, when are you going to work? Forget home care, because that's also covered under Medicaid. And private duty nursing is oh so expensive. Are you starting to hyperventilate yet? But, you say, I just won't take dear old Aunt Martha home from the hospital. If I don't take her home, she's not my responsibility. They can't toss her out on the street, right? Right?!?! Well, probably not. Sometimes we do. But often we don't, because it's a safety issue. So you have chosen to abandon your elderly parent in a hospital. Beyond the fact that that is just morally reprehensible and I will be calling dcf on your ass, let's examine how that can also impact you. So a bunch of people get wise to the fact that they can dingdongditch their sick elderly relatives. That means that the hospital is left holding the short straw: Uncle Marty. Uncle Marty had a stroke. He can't feed himself, much less walk or care for himself. His Medicaid benefit was capped by the senate, so he can't go to a nursing home for rehab. His family abandoned him. He does not have the tens of thousands in his bank account to pay for nursing home care. So for the next two months, Uncle Marty gets to sit on my patient list. I grow to call him one of my permanent residents. He starts getting mail delivered to the hospital. The nurses all know him by name. He gets a full two months of therapy until he is finally able to care for himself and be discharged home (sweet jeebus, don't let me get stuck with that discharge summary). The problem is that for the past two months, dear old uncle Marty has been sitting in a hospital bed for no reason. He is well enough to be discharged, but he needs rehab. So that means one less patient could be admitted to the hospital for two months. But remember, it's not just Uncle Marty who had a stroke. There's Aunt Bedelia with her broken hip. There's Gramma Hortence with her pneumonia and resultant debility. There's Grandad Glenn with his heart bypass. The list goes on. And for the time that they need rehab, they will be taking up hospital beds. And before long, especially in Florida where our state bird has blue hair and enjoys the early dinner special, hospitals quickly fill to capacity with people who don't need to be in the hospital. Hospitals become the new nursing homes. But what, dear young reader living a healthy lifestyle, does that matter to you? Well, when hospitals are full, wait times go up. Car accident? Appendicitis? Migraine headache? Back strain from helping your buddy move last week? Uti on the weekend? Your er wait time just went from 3 hours to 12 hours. Need to be admitted for emergency surgery for your appendicitis? Too bad, so sad. Thank a senator. This hospital is full of nursing home patients. You have skin in this fight. You may not think you do, but you are wrong. Everyone has skin in this fight. Even the young. Even the healthy. Even the people with great employer based healthcare plans. Even the wealthiest among us. And yes, even your senator and Ms Conway. This bill will impact us all. So call your senator. Tell your senator to vote no on the senate healthcare act. Senate switchboard: (202)224-3121 If you won't do it for the disadvantaged, the disabled, the children, the elderly, the pregnant women, the people with organ transplants, do it for yourself. Illness will come for us all eventually. Don't you want affordable easy to access healthcare when it does? Signed, Your Friendly Local Bitter Hospitalist PS Don't be a dick to your elderly relatives. They took care of you. Now it's time to take care of them. Call them. Visit them. Send them a friggin card and some flowers, dude. They're lonely. They think of you often and have probably told me all about you, complete with showing me photos.

So call your senator. Tell your senator to vote no on the senate healthcare act. Senate switchboard: (202)224-3121
If you won't do it for the disadvantaged, the disabled, the children, the elderly, the pregnant women, the people with organ transplants, do it for yourself. Illness will come for us all eventually. Don't you want affordable easy to access healthcare when it does?
Signed, Your Friendly Local Bitter Hospitalist
PS Don't be a dick to your elderly relatives. They took care of you. Now it's time to take care of them. Call them. Visit them. Send them a friggin card and some flowers, dude. They're lonely. They think of you often and have probably told me all about you, complete with showing me photos.

Morning Glory: Part 2
Summary: When Joseph, a former small-town priest turned soda fountain clerk, discovers his favorite customer and longtime crush Belle French spending time with a handsome, mysterious stranger, he’s convinced they’re a couple. But there’s an emotional distance between Belle and Merlin, fueling his suspicions that Merlin cares more about impressing Belle than making her happy. Will Joseph summon the courage and faith to confess his love for Belle, or will he stand aside and allow both their hearts to be broken? Word Count: Chapter: 1496/Total: 14,150 Rating: T A/N: Part 2 of my Macelle fic, Morning Glory, for @of-princes-and-savages. Written for @maydaymenagerie
AO3: Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 Tumblr: Part 1|
Jealousy, worry, and alarm mingle in a heady cocktail, and Joseph is still cursing himself thirty minutes later while he’s stocking the cleaning supply aisle. The bell at the soda fountain counter dings, startling his frayed nerves, and he drops a case of glass cleaner on his foot, then bites down on his wrist to keep from howling.
Belle has arrived at last. Foot throbbing, he hobbles to the soda fountain to greet her.
“Evening, Joseph,” Belle says, beaming. A halo of thick, soft hair is tumbling around her shoulders and her cheeks are flushed apple red from the cold.
“Hello, Belle.” He ducks behind the counter. Unsettled by his earlier encounter with the stranger who called him Joe, it’s an effort to smile into the eyes of his favorite customer. All he can see in his mind’s eye is Merlin’s smug happiness when he prepaid for Belle’s ice cream from now until the Lord returns. On the rare occasion that he’s flush with cash, he likes to treat Belle, but now even that simple pleasure has been stripped away. “What’ll it be today? The usual?”
The brightness in her eyes dims, and he wonders if something troubles her. She settles onto a stool and runs her index finger down the paper menu, biting down on her lush lower lip as she scans the offerings. “Since we both know I don’t have a usual, what do you recommend?”
“I’m sorry. Been a bit of a rough day.” Ashamed of his thoughtlessness, he scratches at his forehead. He wants to question her about Merlin’s visit to the store earlier this evening, but he doesn’t know where to start. That and he’s promised not to say a word. Bloody conscience.
“Joseph, you’re hurt.” Belle moves his hand away from his face to examine the bump on his head, her concerned eyes roaming over his forehead.
He shakes his head, suppressing a shiver of delight when she says his name, enjoying far too much the soft way it rolls off her tongue. “It’s just a little scratch. Nothing to be alarmed about.”
She frowns. “We should put some ice on it.”
“I’m ok,” he says again, longing to recapture their typical, easy banter. But his tongue feels twisted into knots. “What’s your pleasure today? Something with coconut? Peach parfait?” He pauses, then eyes a bunch of ripe bananas. “How about a banana split?”
“Mmmm, that sounds heavenly.” She puts her hand on his forearm and squeezes. “You always have the best ideas.”
Pleased by her praise, he chuckles, then sets to work. He carefully peels and halves a perfect yellow banana with a touch of green at the stem. He scoops mounds of homemade chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream into a serving dish, regarding Belle from beneath lowered lashes.
After topping the dish with whipped cream, he crowns the sundae with a handful of maraschino cherries. He peeks at the pharmacy counter to see if Bedelia is watching. He can hear her now, complaining about the cost per cherry. In defiance, he dumps another spoonful on top for good measure. The cherries are Belle’s favorite part of the dessert. He presents her sundae with a flourish and a smile.
“Thank you,” she says, her eyes lighting up when he sets the dish before her. “This looks delicious.”
You look delicious, he wants to say as her beautiful mouth envelopes the spoon. Her eyes close and she moans in pleasure as she swallows the first bite, and his cheeks darken at the carnal direction of his thoughts. His mind drifts back to Merlin, and jealousy turns him greener than the vat of pistachio ice cream in the case. Blessed Virgin, help me, he prays. I don’t know how to act, or what to say. Give me the right words.
“Quite welcome.” He forces a smile. “How was your day?”
“All right. I got held up at the library when the system went down and needed a reboot; that’s why I was late tonight, but I did get a new shipment of mystery romance novels in.” Her face brightens, as it always does when she speaks of books. She really is the most adorable creature God ever put on this earth.
He picks up his rag and shines the counter again. “Belle, do you have family in town this week?”
“No, why do you ask?”
“No special reason.” He can rule out Merlin as a family member then.
He tries again. “Is anything new happening?”
She furrows her brow in thought. “Other than the library…no. Oh! There is something!”
“Yes?”
“Ruby and Archie had their baby! A little girl named Julia Jane. Six pounds, eleven ounces.”
“Oh. Well. Babies are a blessing, there’s no doubt.” He pinches his nose, disappointed yet relieved that she hasn’t mentioned the mysterious Merlin. It’s because she doesn’t trust you, imbecile. She’s content to share town gossip, but she’s not about to tell you who she’s dating.
He keeps her talking between bites, directing the conversation into safer areas like the weather, her work, and the latest community happenings.
All too soon, she scrapes the bowl of ice cream clean and dabs her mouth with a paper napkin. Her lips look soft and he wishes he could do it for her.
“I can’t believe I ate the entire thing!” she exclaims.
“Ice cream isn’t really food. It just fills in all those empty little spaces.” He grins. She always eats the entire dessert, but she says that every week, and every week he offers the same reassurance.
Her cheeks turn a beguiling shade of pink.
“What’s going on over here?” Bedelia is standing behind Belle, her arms crossed over her chest. She peers into Belle’s empty bowl.
Joseph gulps. He’d been so preoccupied with flirting he’d forgotten all about keeping watch. “Miss French is enjoying some ice cream.”
“Looks to me like she’s finished eating and needs to be on her way.” Bedelia nudges Belle’s bowl in Joseph’s direction, and he whisks it away and places it in the sink at the back of the bar.
He turns around to face Bedelia once more. “Belle’s a paying customer,” he argues, “and a good one at that.”
“Joseph was just charming me with his wit,” Belle says sweetly. “In my experience, he’s the finest asset this store has to offer.”
“Mmmm, well, I didn’t ask you to fill out an online survey, did I Miss French?” Bedelia’s cold smile looks like it could freeze the ice cream. “And Joseph isn’t paid to entertain. He’s here to scoop things and stock shelves.”
Belle arches a brow. “People are an organization’s most valuable asset, Ms. Bluementhal. If I were you, I’d hold onto Joseph.”
“You’re not me, Miss French.”
“Praise Jesus,” Joseph mutters under his breath.
“What was that?” Her sharp eyes rake him over.
“I said this new praline jubilee that just came in from the creamery is quite nice,” he says over his shoulder. He gestures toward the blender. “Can I make you a milkshake, Ms. B?”
“Get back to work, Joseph,” she says, with a parting glare at Belle. “Aisle ten requires your attention. There’s a new shipment of kitty litter in.”
Joseph is blushing furiously when Bedelia stalks away, torn between embarrassment and delight at Belle’s staunch defense of him.
Her hand is clapped over her mouth in an effort not to laugh, and he gives her a wry smile.
She fishes a crisp ten dollar bill from her wallet and holds it out. “I hope I didn’t get you in trouble. Thank you for the banana split. It was delicious.”
“There’s no charge,” he says, shaking his head. “And don’t worry; I can handle that old battle axe.”
“Joseph, I’m not taking your money.” Her eyes flicker with something…is it pity?
The flavor of elation turns bitter in his mouth. She doesn’t want anything from you, imbecile.
He thrusts his shoulders back. He may not be as rich as her boyfriend, Merlin, but he can afford a bloody dish of ice cream. He removes a creased and damp bill from his pocket and puts it in the cash register, slamming the drawer with finality. “It’s on the house. I insist.”
She reddens and drops her money into her purse. “I didn’t mean…thank you.”
Perfect. Now he’s made them both feel awkward.
“See you next week?” he asks, wincing at the thread of desperation in his tone. He shouldn’t be letting Merlin get under his skin.
“Of course, yes.” She looks relieved. “Good night, Joseph.”
“Good night, Belle.”
He waits until she’s tucked her scarf around her neck and turned away, before sinking down on a low stool behind the bar. The movement sends a scrap of paper floating to the floor. He picks it up; it’s Merlin’s credit card receipt. Joseph crumples it in his fist and looks at the trash can. He hesitates, then shoves the slip of paper in his pocket.

LOOKING FOR "HANNIBAL" ROLE PLAYERS
Hello! This is extremley important, please read it.
I’m a writer and a roleplayer. I already have a character, but I’m willing to change her story to fit in.
Her name is Alice, she’s in her 30s and she’s obsessed with Alice in Wonderland. She’s got DID (dissociative identity disorder).
I would love to be one of Hannibal’s patients, I’d love to be someone who intrigues him in a professional way.
I imagined her being one of Bedelia’s patients, before she retired. Alice moved back to Daresbury (where she was born) and a decade later, she returns to America.
Her condition got considerably worse. She is a ticking bomb, Hannibal’s curiosity might help her become who she’s destined to be.
The setting could be pre-series, or post-series, or even during it. I don’t really care.
Even if I want to stay as close as possible to the canon, I enjoy Hannigram and I accept Bedannibal, as long as it’s in the past. I can picture a future where Alice becomes in Hannibal and Will’s mind the new Abigail. But she can’t be. She’s her own person.
Bedelia considers her almost a friend. Almost. It’s been a long time since they’ve seen each other and they have both changed. I’m obsessed with Gillian Anderson, so yes, I’m in love with Bedelia.
In my mind, Alice sends her presents. Sometimes, presents might be dead people. Just like a cat.
Alice is short and tiny. She’s got golden hair and green eyes. She’s socially awkward - but some of her personalities aren’t.
Mind that English is not my first language, so I might make mistakes.
I don’t have her profile yet. I want to see if someone would like to role with me, first.
This is my AO3 account: here
Please, reblog this post, it would mean the world to me.
Send me a private message if you’re interested, so we can talk about it.
Thank you.
