like my spanish knowledge or lack thereof is rly funny coz i never learned it formally i just picked it up from a tv show i binged but my brain sectioned off a whole new corner just for spanish so i CAN switch to spanish like i would for other languages (in fact after the whole tv show debacle i spent days not being able to switch away from spanish mode and thus not understanding what ppl were saying coz my brain kept interpreting both english and hungarian as spanish and refused to process it any other way) but my vocab is like nonexistent so the grammar and the will is there but the knowledge is not. EXCEPT that the show was la casa de papel aka a show about bank robberies so most of the vocab i do know is related to that. so like i can say robber or hostage or gold or kill her or shut the fuck up but until i got here i didnt know how to like, say good evening
#im still shaky on the basics honestly but i can force my way through ordering food and most importantly slushies so it's fine#like my logic is i already know too many western euro languages so there's no real point in going into spanish even tho i#find it pretty easy coz of those ^ plus latin but idk. im already flying too close to the language sun methinks#i should just focus on becoming fluent in german again so i can get tf out of here#but there's like 4 languages i wanna learn rn which I'm kinda doing but only somewhat#if i just focused on one that'd be grand. but alas#whatever lowkey sorry point is i hate feeling like a toddler when trying to say anything but not knowing the words like omgg😭#barking#cdmxlb#languages

I keep drinking coffee thinking it's gonna make me Productive and then instead of doing the work I actually have to do I just compulsively make spreadsheets :(
#my homework is. not done#but!!! i just realized if i take 2 spanish classes i can have a russian/spanish major instead of just russian#(it's complicated but this would leave me with: double major languages and history with a joint major in asian middle east studies)#(plus a minor in religious studies and concentration in islamicate studies)#first i gotta: relearn spanish for like the third time#but it's ok i'm hopping thru spain in less than a month so i should proooobably do that anyway#man when i was touring colleges my mom was like really dismissive about the idea of double majoring and now i'm here like#How Many Things Can I Stack Up To Get Big Number On Transcript#aaaaaaaand because of ames requirements i did the dumb thing and ended up learning persian while my spanish is still kinda iffy#итак совершилося то что я пытался предотвратить as they say#so i'm just gonna have to study two languages at once next semester... or just keep going thru the cycle of relearning them abt every year#my russian is a big girl it can survive on its own but i now gotta feed the babiessssss#tho ig what this kinda cyclically learning and forgetting spanish has taught me is like#languages are less like babies and more like those lil desert plants that wither up when they don't have any water#they might look dead but they're nearly impossible to kill completely#and will bounce right back after a lil care n patience. i just gotta like.... water em#the one thing standing in my way is ideological opposition to my spanish textbook#i have to pay $200 for access to a *website*#*i don't even get a book just a shitass ebook*#but it's ok one of the spanish profs likes me i think? i think she would let me skip the intro lit class#only problem is it was Genuinely Hard for me to follow along when i audited advanced lit... 90% of the class was heritage speakers#tho ig like. having taken a class meant for native russian speakers should help w learning to survive that kinda thing#genuinely i think i can do it#just gotta make that my goal. study. do it for zapata#and if i wanna go into translating... having good spanish should help right? like if i finally get b2 spanish?#yeah. if i could do kazakh history for native russian speakers i can do spanish lit for heritage spanish speakers. it's equivalent enough#but ok i'm gonna visit my buddy in spain who did nearly the exact same shitass majors combination as me#tho i think he did spanish/arabic for his language major and just Happens To Also Be Fluent In Russian cuz he's Like That#it's ok he's two years older than me i have two years to become that cool#he can tell me what to do

I can't believe there's people watching qsmp who hear the Spanish speakers and just go "well i don't know Spanish and there's nothing i can do about that. Guess I'll never know what they say". When Tahlulla said "then learn" cause quackity said he didn't speak Spanish, that was at y'all. If you can watch a 6 hour stream you can download doulingo and do a 5 minute Spanish lesson.

Bucket#and its cause he was saying fuck it fuck it fuck it so it translated that into cangilón#i barely know spanish and even then i can manage to parse out what at least some of them are saying you dont need much#hell even just tune into a foolish stream cause hes actually been doing spanish lessons with leo and hes picking it up really well#and he says all of his thoughts on how or why parts of the language are how they are which kinda helps to understand it#like hes wrong sometimes very much so but its really really cool to judt sit and listen to a guy figure out how to speak another language#i played it while cooking the other day and when he would ask a question i also had id ask my roommate whos fluent#and just asking questions helps to learn.#sorry for the ramble im just fed up with the mentality that some foøks have with the spanish speakers#yes the translator is fucking rad but it doesnt catch everything and its kinda nicer to catch it as its spoken you know#leadning a new language is only hard at first. its very easy to become obsessed with understanding it

#lile thinking about it im 24 and ive already got a good grip on writing#i know some drawing fundementals and how to code in html and how to hold a basic conversation in spanish/glean meaning from text in spanish#and i have at least 60-80 more years to learn things!!!#i could become an artist and fluent in multiple languages#i could go further with my crochet and sewing and pick up weaving#i could fully learn ballet or the bass guitar or the keyboard#its just like. so exciting to me to be able to do things and create

#yes I'm aware those aren't usually different but when they are#like if you speak one up until like three but then end up with another becoming the first you're genuinely fluent in#I think most people would say the latter is your first but then probably the other might be a native language or something#but like imagine if your parents raised you speaking klingon#then you obviously became fluent in spanish or whatever#you can't exactly call klingon your native language then lmao#and if you're native to a place but never spoke the language#labels are made up and messy and not rules of the universe#pondering this question has reminded me
