Ngl I kinda hate it when you talk about lizzie cause you always talk about this version of her and the fandom that's so utterly foreign to me as a lizzie fan, it always feels like a damned if you do damned if you don't scenario where she isn't allowed to interact with men and ignoring all the depth of her character in order to overanalyze specific events or headcanons in a vacuum and then saying it's ignoring her character and misogyny, as well as ignoring the irl misogyny that shapes the cc's choices for their c's. Big sister and protector is a title she bestowed upon herself and it should neither be dismissed as "just that one time " (because so much of everyone else's characterization is based on things that were "that one time" and it is also something both her and jimmy choose to quite fondly call back to) nor incongruent with her character at someone who loves a good "i meant to do that" and self-agrandizing herself. It feels more like you have to ignore several years worth of both hers and jimmy's story and characterization and also the more problematic realities of the situation (such as it being lizzies second season, while it had been jimmy's 5th season of an incredbly prominent ongoing plot point, and that lizzie's external interactions of note were, outside of our power and for various reasons, primarily with men, among other things) to boil the whole situation down to its most barest of bones of "people make lizzies death about jimmy". Which I find an untrue twisting of the actual concept most of the time but acknowledge it is sometimes simplified to, and there are aspects of misogyny in lizzie's portrayal, but you frame it in a way as if the concept itself is inherently misogynistic and purely a fandom issue. The fact is that no matter who it was, the first first death that wasnt jimmy was always going to be a bit about jimmy, there is no avoiding it and no seasonal plot that was going to overcome that fact, and lizzie is a good friend whos become his sister who explicitely had a plot about wanting and failing to protect him, who had a significant interaction with him not long prior where he killed her accidentally, and died while specifically targetting a man who was both jimmys tormenter and joels rival whom she randomly selected to be her target, and died due to a tripping failure which has already been previously interpretted in the past as being tied to fate, and the in game reactions being cpnfusion, happy/shocked jimmy managed to not be out first, and swearing to avenge her death. You'd be hard pressed to believe these things wouldn't be still true and play out the same if she was a different gender, and most of them would still happen even if she was an entirely different player. Nevermind the copious different interpretations that fall within the framing of it as a seablings moment, from wanting to give an accidental death more meaning and connecting dots (because thats most of what fandom does with an ad libbed story like the life series to begin with), to simply enjoying the poetic irony of both seablings being the first out, lizzie showing her true cringfail colours now that shes returned to the series, to tying it into the fact that yes she didn't do it onl purpose, but she absolutely would tell people and even herself that she did just to retain her dignity in the same way a cat who missed a toy stops chasing it and starts grooming themselves like they never meant to go after it in the first place.

And also, like, you ARE a Jimmy person also, so I'm not surprised you primarily interacted with stuff that involved Jimmy. As a Lizzie fan I saw plenty that was to do primarily with Lizzie, and yeah there was a significant amount that involved Jimmy. I didn't see any one of the people who complained about that fact actually go on to make works without Jimmy. I did see other Lizzie fans before and after making such works, and the works that did involve Jimmy being works with deapth and love for their specific relationship, stories, and personalities. I saw plenty of people who hadn't watched Lizzie at all suddenly become interested and retroactively watch her series, and of course the works the made before doing so weren't centred on her, because they were coming from different povs and didn't know as much, and their works after became more in-depth and come out the gate swinging during wild life where she stole the spotlight for much of the season.

I don't know as much about Pearl and Gem's fandoms. But I do know that Pearl is frequently treated as a wet cat and a little crazy, but also she loves playing particular characters like postwoman and cleaning lady that specifically utilize their responsibility to enact chaos through malicious compliance. And Gem takes open pride at being smarter and less ridiculous than everyone else even while actively doing the same things as them, she loves going "youre crazy!... I'm in." And she's pulled a "stupid boys" move several times. Which is to say, whether you consider it a product of misogyny or not, it is an aspect of their characters, they don't live in a cultural vacuum and by the nature of the series where they are only partly roleplaying and each character exists within the framework of their cc's biases, you cannot just analyze their actions like its a typical narrative with a single author you can point to and say they poorly write women. And you cannot blame fandom when these aspects of their character are represented, and while some do do so to the exclusion of the rest, 5am Pearl is the only life series plushie for a reason. Nevermind the difficulties of analyzing what people an fandom think of characters based off of the popularity of certain art and umbrella narrative concepts from fanwork posted excitedly in the moment without going to each individual and asking them what their full thoughts are on a character assuming they have the ability to articulate their opinions and thoughts properly. I'm sure those people who complained about Lizzie's death being tied to Jimmy had a LOT of thoughts about Lizzie, but as I said none of them actually bore fruit in the form of fanworks. Most people do not have time or ability to convey complex ideas, what you see at any given time when searching through fanart and short text posts in particular are the most resonant, dramatic, small thoughts and moments that touched something in someone enpugh to inspire.

That is to say, as a Lizzie fan, one of the reasons I love her is the exact trits that lead to her choosing to become Jimmy's big sister in empires 1 in the way that she does. Her paper thin often facade of respectability and dignity, her failures despite it, her talent for mixing drama and comedy, her ability make up stories that often agrandize herself, her instant chemistry with most anyone, her ditziness and distractedness, her ability confidently declare facts even when theyre completely false, her ability to tie coincidences together into a coherent story. And absolutely all these things are also relevant to why I and others find framing her secret life death in a seablings light to be compelling. Personally, for me, I love that her death connects her to others when her time in secret life was so lonely. It can be bother angsty and, because these games don't end at the persons death, comforting and sweet. And I don't know anyone who was compelled by the potential character connection who wasn't also compelled and even directly spurred on by her as an individual. To boil it down to "she died for a man's story" is both untrue and removing it from its context, the especially when half the context is 2 narratives Lizzie herself crafted for herself and the result was something she herself enjoed enough to play into to craft a 3rd narrative in the next series.

Anyways... I know this won't change your mind. I don't expect it to. I'm just so tired of shallow takes and people who aren't even Lizzie fans talking about Lizzie's narrative through the context of the small snippet of what they see from other non-Lizzie fans based off immediate gut reactions that often stifle the way people talk about the women in this series to ironically complain about how people talk about women in this series. The feminist analysis in this fandom feels so... shallow. Like it begins and ends with the bechdel test as applied to more conventional works of fiction. Big sister bad, women interact primarily with men bad, people see women as responsible because misogyny. No further depth or context despite the endless paragraphs dedicated to these ideas, especially once theyre disseminated out to use against other fans to tell them theyre creating fanworks wrong.

Because of how politely this is written, it took me a few rereads and external evaluation, but I recognize that you're criticizing me for the things I criticize. All your ask really boils down to, is defending fandom practises that I criticize because I disagree with them. Like that of making Lizzie out to be a one-note character. I think it says something when you have to make Lizzie's character about a relationship that was canon in ESMP1 and bears little to no actual presence elsewhere like the Life series. I don't care whether people headcanon her and Jimmy as siblings even in traffic, the issue is that she gets little to no characterization outside of that in SL, a series in which their only notable interaction was Jimmy killing her. Lizzie deserves an identity outside of "choosing to be Jimmy's sister". (She'd also gone out of her way to try and kill Scott because of Joel, it wasn't random.) And this type of treatment is detrimental to Jimmy too. Just as the misogyny in the fandom is always detrimental to the men also. Quoting one of my evaluation friends: "They aren't inherently wrong, you cant detach the men from the story and have it be the same but also to take an already interesting moment and story beat and just start piling unnecessary 'sibling' stuff onto it kind of ruins the drama and tragedy of the death itself"

Of course women can have meaningful connections with the men. It's not bad or misogynistic. I talk about Pearl and Scott's dynamic constantly and have never seen nor received a complaint about Pearl's character being made to be all about a man. Think about the relevance between those two vs Jimmy and Lizzie in the Life series

I talk about Lizzie frequently because I like and care about her character. I'm not saying that the people I disagree with don't. Clearly you care a lot too. The sentiment that people are just creating based on something that left a big enough impact on them to inspire, eg Lizzie's SL death, is very fair, but I can still disagree with it. I mourn that more people don't take that newfound interest to indulge in Lizzie's POV more, and that because of people's tendency to absorb characterization from the fandom to feed back into itself, that's all a lot of them know and care to learn about ("Lizzie taking a bullet for Jimmy" and all) and how so many characters (not just the women) in my opinion end up being absurdly one-note in their analysis and opinion pieces for being players in a death game (+ the practise of often shunning people who dare touch upon anything less desirable or popular in their analysis like abuse)

If it were a guy in Lizzie's shoes, characterized the same way that I disagree with - I would still disagree with it

I've explained it before but no, it's not misogynistic to credit the women for their successes, to point out when they're smart or protective. I see it as misogynistic when women exclusively are being accredited to successes that are not exclusive to them constantly to label them as the leaders of their groups, labelling them motherly or big sisterly solely because they're thought to be better than their male counterparts, viewing all the women as the best players specifically, etc

They tend to play dumb about stuff even though they're around 40 now and were in the Pokemon fandom for almost two decades before finally being called out. They are very agreeable and change what they like and how they act like a chameleon. They befriend older fans to gain safety. Warnings have been going around but because they're a really good artist I don't think it's being taken seriously. Thankfully some have pulled away or already have them blocked. Please don't give them attention, they traumatized me and my friends and no one cared because they got the artist free pass. Even looking back their Pokémon stuff was a red flag. Brief Review of The Abyss 光渊 | The LA of Priest’s Danmei 默读 Silent Reading

Just a TLDR for everyone who’s a fan or if you’re not a fan and not sure if you should get into this, I’ve watched four episodes out of the eight so far and:

1. Character name changes like no one was spared not even Luo Yi Guo the cat he becaome Ping Di Guo which is flat pan ya know I was like a bit ???

2. Plot changes - So far none in terms of the cases and the plot, and the interactions between LWZ, Fei Du and Tao Ran, I’d go as far as to say it’s 100% aligned, EXCEPT for the front part where there’s two strange additions:

It’s set like hundreds of years in the future and branded as a sci-fi drama but it’s not because the setting is exactly the fucking same like literally no advanced tech or shit, and tencent shaded them subtly for calling themselves a sci-fi drama

It also begins on the premise of genetic mutation where people have this gene that makes them commit crimes - i know technically this is not a new theory irl right, in reality there is ongoing research on whether it’s genetic or environmental causes that makes someone kill AND it’s a motif and underlying theme for Modu in general with Fei Du between him and his dad but this like public genetic mutation setup is weird PLUS they don’t actually even talk about it??? Like 4 eps in they set it up but it’s nowhere to be seen

The CGI is shite omgg.... like you can tell they CGI-ed the storm, a cake in a fight scene etc. and like a sack of dice... I cry...

My opinions on saiki k ships!

Hi, so people always have deferent and sometimes very intense feelings on ships. I don't want to name names, but... people who send death threats and call people homophobic for not agreeing with their ships. cough cough

But today I am not here to bash on any ships except for illegal ones, yall pedophilia is NOT cool, nor is incest. Instead I am gonna talk about my humble and changeable(possiblebly) (ya gotta make a good argument) opinions on ships in saiki k.

Hi so editors note, I think that it might be helpful for you all to understand a bit about me and my irl experience with romance to beter understand where my opinions are coming from, but if you don't want to hear about my boring real life shit, wich I totally get, skip to the time on screen, if you want to here it go ahead and stay, so i am autistic, adhd, and have multiple anxiety disorders, and I am demiromantic and demisexual and have never had a crush before so I don't know what I'm taking about.

Now to start i assume that people who aren't fans of shipping in saiki k aren't here, but if you are, I totally get it. It is a comedy anime and is about friendship, so romantic relationships aren't a requirement. You don't have to want characters to actually get together. But I and the other shippers that are here find shipping fun.

I find shipping to be a fun way to explore different characters and their interactions. So let's get on to ships I PERSONALLY ship.

Kaidou x aren

The boys are starting this list. I think they are so cute and I love how their relationship develops, and also how the characters complement each other. The irony of there friendship is part of what makes it a fun combo. We have a person who wants to live in a sort of larger than life fantasy where they are a bad ass, and the other is a person who had said larger than life... life, that wants to leave that behind and become more acceptable to society. And that last part is what I think draws me to the ship. I feel like in different ways they both want the same thing: to be a "beter" more acceptable version of themselves, and to have people who see them how they want to be perceived. And as a person who puts on a act and at one point felt like they lost themselves and never had a personality due to excessive masking( if u don't know what that means I will have a awesome video by a autistic creator that explains it) I love seeing how both Kaidou and aren sincerely believe in each other and the person that the other wants to be. I also am biased to anything to do with Kaidou. So that is why I love these 2 together, they combine to show how ppl that have seemingly different goals can really just want acceptance, and are able to find that acceptance in each other.

Okay so as I was writing this script I realized the only ship that I actively ship are these 2 precious beens: Kaidou and aren. And by actively ship I mean purposely looking for content of them. With the other saiki k ships I don't have the same "requirement" I guess, it's really not that deep but I can't think of a better word 😅, but I don't seek out other ships, i simply passively enjoy or disagree with them.

So on to ships I passively enjoy:

First one might not actually be considered a ship, i don't know... but it is teruhashi and the pig tail girl that is in love with her. Because she IS in love with teruhashi and you can't prove me wrong, mis girl literally willed herself into having a crush on teruhasi's brother so she "didn't become a lesbian". So by i ship them i mean that I love to see her pine after teruhashi, I am some what indifferent to whether or not people want or portray them as dating but I do throughly enjoy her pinning and jealousy and love to see women in love with women.

Second ship I passively enjoy:

Nendou and haido. Now this is my crack ship that I simply like to think about sometimes. These 2 boys are so hilariously gay that I get excited any time I see people ship them. Now I feel that I need to make a clarification on this, the ship is not funny become they are gay in the way of treating gay relationships as not real and as a joke, but is funny in the way that the characters act, and that they say it is a rivalry when really Nendou might not even know they are competing. And as a wise person that I can't remember the name of once said" if you make a rivalry to intense it becomes gay." And there rivalry isn't even real, there are no real hard feelings that could lead to a toxic relationship, it is just 2 manly men obsessing over each other.

Now this next one is one that I can't think of a name for how I feel about it, saiki and teruhashi. Now these 2 have a very nuanced and well developed relationship in my opinion, and there is no argument about wether or not saiki cares about her, because he dose, they are friends and he cares about her just like he cares about his male friends. But I personally headcanon saiki as aro ace, and so I am not the BIGGEST fan of any saiki ships, but I don't hate them obviously because he isn't canonically aroace, so who am i to tell ppl not to ship him because of my headcanons. And I do feel like if saiki was going to fall in love, like not just a crush, it would be teruhashi. And I would still headcanon him as part of the ace spectrum, if not aroace then demiromantic and demisexual. But he and teruhasi's relationship has changed throughout the show, it started with teruhashi wanting him simply because he didn't want her, but it changed to her genuinely caring about him, eventually it felt like to me her crush stopped being for her and started being for saiki. It went from her wanting HIM to her wanting the best FOR him. I don't know where I heard it but someone said that you know you truly love someone when you want them to be happy even if it's not with you. Now I don't think that teruhashi would go that far but she genuinely cares more about him than dating him by the end, in my opinion.

Now on to what some ppl may see as the a agonist to teruhashi x saiki, saiki x Sato. And even saying that saiki x teruhashi is the "antagonist" to saiki x Sato fells wrong, because i think that is a really toxic way to look not only at ships but at women in media, people may see that a woman gets in the way of there gay ship and hate on her. But that whole decision of how ppl treat women in media is not the point of this video. I think that saiki x Sato feels like a crush type of thing, again to me saiki is aroace so I see his infatuation with Sato as wanting to BE him not date him, but I 100% see how ppl concluded that saiki likes him, if he were to have what I imagine a "crush" is it would be on him, but I must say that saiki, at least in the anime, has no real relationship with him, to me it feels like a crush on the idea of a person and not on the person themselves, but I must mention that I am demiromantic and demisexual my self, so I may just not understand the whole crush on person you don't know well thing, so feel free to try to explain it to me in the comments.

Finally we have ships i don't like:

Now this one has very little newaunce unlike the last "mabey I'm to demi for this shit" relationship, but I don't like saiki x toritska. I get that it is a fun rare pair for some ppl but I just can't ever see them together. No hate i just don't get it, and don't see the appeal of it, so if you are a hard-core saiki x toritska shiper let me know why in the comments, I legitimately want to try to understand other perspectives, especially on something as nuanced as romance.

Now these are the main ships that I see and wanted to comment on, but if you have any ships you are curious of my opinion on please let me know, I would love to make a video that you want to see.

Um hii so I may have something to add to the "duo name" discussion going on.

Fanmade duo names are generally established to separate them from shipping. Which is a good idea and we should continue to make an effort to tag shipping. But you know what else is a fanon concept? Not the idea of two CCs being good friends irl, but the fannish idea of shipping their characters. (Excluding CCs who are married / together). So instead of coming up with fanon names for platonic duos who are friends irl, I think we should come up with fanon names for the fannish concept of shipping (who are not together irl / whose characters are not together).

I'm not into QSMP so I cannot speak for that side and I know y'all have a different shipping culture, so this is more for hermitshipping / trafficshipping.

I can't verify this statement but in this post, OP mentions Joe and Cleo didn't want a duo name because they felt like a word + duo couldn't represent their years of friendship. And I can imagine this to be true for many duos especially in HC, which has been going on for so long. Instead of trying to “define” friendship with a word, we can shift the focus to making up a fan name for the fannish concept of shipping them.

Case study 1: Renchanting / Treebark

The ideal scenario: CCs make their own canon platonic name, shippers make their own fannish name for shipping. Treebark is a pun, it's vague, it doesn't overtly mention Ren or Martyn or their brands, and like the more niche duo names, you need to put in effort to understand what this means. Which makes it perfect for shipping in the sense we try to "hide" it. I know people have said it can be frustrating when you see a new duo and don’t know what it means, but I think it’s okay for ship names because they are by design meant to be obscure. You have to make an effort to look for it and understand what it means.

Case study 2: Convex / Cubscar (Ranchers / Solidaritek (?) also goes here)

I think it's called Cubscar based on Cubscar Week? Anyways, a slightly less ideal scenario than Treebark but still very very good. Canon name for platonic stuff, name mashup for romantic stuff. Less elegant that Treebark but it works so who cares. If it works, it works.

Case study 3: Flower Husbands

FH is different in the sense it’s a canon romantic ship and the CCs made the name themselves. I guess FH is still used for platonic but romantic FH would probably be best tagged with shipping to differentiate it.

Case study 4: Rendoc (aka. is this platonic or romantic or what) (Renskall also goes here)

Rendoc is like FH but?? It’s both a ship name and a duo name?? SHIPrendoc? They made it themselves hello?? Rendoc has been around long enough that we just use it for whatever. Like FH, romantic Rendoc should probably be tagged with shipping.

Case study 5: Fress / Stresskall

Long established ship names that sometimes gets used for platonic because it’s faster and we don’t have canon names (at least I think we don’t?). At least I use it for platonic too. It’s different from Rendoc / Renskall in the sense we don’t get a “haha yes ship us” from the CCs. And I think we have enough common sense to tell whether a post is meant to be shippy or not. Eg. “YESS FRESS CRUMBS IN NEW EPISODE!” (about canon platonic interaction), “omg fress in your au is so cute” (depends on context? What’s the AU?), “I think Fress should kiss” (overtly romantic).

These dynamics in particular have been around long enough that it feels weird trying to make a duo name for them (like Jleo). Like, I would rather call platonic Stress+Iskall with Stresskall than, fuckass allium duo or whatever. If it’s tagged with shipping, it’s meant to be seen as shipping. In the absence of canon names, sometimes using name mashups is faster and more efficient.

There are of course exceptions for everything: eg. Desert Duo is well established enough and it’s a good contrast to Scarian. But I think for more niche duos / ships, we can kind of get away with using name mashups? In the absence of canon names?

But I think name mashups are still seen as inherently shippy because that’s how other fandoms make their ship names. (Ironically one of my ships have the name “sniper duo” which is unrelated to mcyt duoification I promise, and is more used descriptively instead of as a tag) So we have to be careful with how we present name mashups especially in public spaces…?

I still think it’s better than making up duo names that few understand. And I think we should reserve our obscure names for the more obscure act of shipping instead. If it’s difficult to find out what it means, why not make it difficult by design? The name mashup tells you who they are, but the obscure ship name tells you explicitly it’s romantic. I know it’s hard trying to twist your thought process the other way because we’re so used to name mashups being for shipping (in other fandoms), but idk I just think it makes sense for fan names to be made for entirely fanmade concepts. And non fanmade concepts (friendships) can stay the way they are. Idk just some thoughts.

I think some context is missed here the drama that happened a few days ago didn’t happen because a few rewrite creators asked people to respect their boundaries, it happened because a Bright fan made a vent post about how the drama was affecting them and a different Bright fan decided to be disrespectful in the comments of that vent post, which then in turn caused someone in support of the removal/rewriting of Bright to reblog that vent post with evidence of AdminBrights behavior, as well as stating that people can’t use the character in good conscience which is where the guilt tripping part came in, along with another post being made calling it a “moral failing” on anyone who continues to use Bright. Also keep in mind all this along with all the reblogs in support of the removal of Bright are being seen by the original poster who just wanted to vent about how the situation was affecting them.

While I do agree that everyone should respect other’s boundaries, saying that absolutely no guilt tripping was happening just isn’t true, it might’ve been easy to miss but it was there.

Also no one should be sending death threats or any hate to others regardless of if they use Bright, Shaw, or a rewrite. As always it’s up to the individual to curate their online experience and that means blocking and simply not engaging with people and concepts you don’t agree with. As for tagging I truly hope the people tagging rewrites with Bright were just doing it out of a misunderstanding but also as always make sure you read and respect each blog’s rules before sharing/rebloging their content.

As for the last part I believe that everyone has a right to feel safe and accepted here on Tumblr so no one should be ostracized into leaving regardless of whatever character/‘s they like. Even though Bright fans shouldn’t interact/follow people who ask them not too it doesn’t mean they should be forced off Tumblr the same goes for Shaw fans. Everyone here should feel safe within their own communities and none of those communities should feel threatened or ostracized from the platform, that includes the rewrite community, Bright fan community, and the Shaw fan community.

I've seen nearly all of J2M's panels, interviews, posts, read articles about them and their own provided works etc. I find them all observationally fascinating and approach trying to understand them and their different life experiences with an open mind and can acknowledge that certain situations aren't always going to equal the whole truth of a famous someone because I will never know them personally and therefore cannot ask directly. Conventions/panels, for instance: they're for entertainment purposes, part humor and sarcasm, part truth. Stories, interactions, are often going to be embellished.

Whilst none of them are perfect — literally no one is! — and of course I don't know them on an intimate, personal level, I still feel very confident in saying that they're inherently good people, based on the conclusions I've reached from my own research. I could continue to refute a lot of your points individually by offering a different perspective (and draw attention to where your so-called facts are simply incorrect) but I don't think persisting with circular arguments is a worthwhile use of time. You're entitled to feel differently about these things and clearly have made firm decisions based on the "evidence" you've gathered about Misha in particular. I mean you’ve been sending me long anons for days already and I’ve gone to the trouble of providing sources for all my claims for *you*, I don’t know why you couldn’t do the same if you’re already invested in talking to me anyways. If there’s individual claims I made that you take issue with because you don’t think they’re credible and I didn’t supply my sources, please be specific, and I’ll provide what I can to show either what I’m referring to or how it brought me to having my opinion. I think people just make excuses and justify questionable behavior in order to keep their attachments to them. Even if you think you’re looking at them critically and from a distance, you’re still fostering a parasocial relationship, and nobody is “inherently good”, least of which are rich celebrities. That doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy them. I enjoy Norm Macdonald, the IASIP cast, and a lot of other people without needing to make sure I’m weighing their every sin and good deed on a scale, in order to keep enjoying them.

The difference is that these people constantly go to conventions and everybody besides J2 is pretty accessible. Misha in particular has gone out of his way to foster this environment where he knows the happenings in the fandom and recognizes fangirls, acknowledges them, responds to them on social media, sometimes meets up with them IRL, and has had things like Gish and his community phone number where he’s been even MORE accessible and uses terms of endearments with everybody. The last part feels especially suspect to me because it proves he’s speaking to an audience of fangirls (and people of whatever adjacent gender who are attracted to men, obviously, but we’ll still refer to them as fangirls for brevity’s sake and because I think calling them “minions” is stupid infighting shit that aligns me with J2ers).

I’m speaking to people on here because tumblr is a historically horny and obsessive fandom space and people are joining this fandom all the time and they are only made aware of whatever the circle jerk tells them first. Not only does it foster a bad relationship with middle aged men that you don’t know, and if you did know then it’s because they met you as someone who is a fan of them, it also fosters a bad community environment. People end up having whole friendship networks that depend on unquestionable loyalty to these men, and a hierarchy is created based on who proves themselves to be more devout; in their determination to defend these men, defend the people that they surround themselves with, defend their beliefs, and their every action big OR small. From Misha supporting ICE, the Clintons, the predatory advice in the threesome’s handbook, to the dumbest little things like how he made a Threads account and positioned it as a better alternative to Twitter. This fandom routinely cannibalizes itself and purges the whistleblowers out.

and I got triggered by that karla gif set the other day lol. SailorSally joined the fandom after November 5th and knows nothing but praise for the man, and while I didn’t send those anons to her I can sympathize with them. The cockles fandom can be the worst sometimes because they really push the narrative that he’s queer (and gay for jensen) because they think it’s a testament to his character and therefore it discredits a lot of the shit I’m complaining about. Even if they’re not tinhatters, then they think it positions Misha’s virtues above Jensen, because I guess he’s supposed to be like a bullied gay kid who is still so loving and affectionate in the face of Jensen’s Toxic Masculinity and Homophobia, or something, despite Jensen having gay gossip rags and magazines profiling him as a closeted cutie for way longer with a lot more persistence. yes there are more and more childrens works nowadays that do talk about the moral implications of putting children in dangerous situations but it’s usually like. really clear if that’s what the work wants to talk about. otherwise children’s media have child protagonists get up to funky adventures and save the world because it’s children’s media. targeted towards children. who have rich internal lives outside of their interactions with adults. who want to see people like themselves be the hero of a story same as adults do.

like as a fan of childrens shows myself im certainly not going to scoff at adults who like children’s shows bc some of them are genuinely good but. if youre not part of the target audience then it’s expected that you go into children’s media with some suspension of disbelief? like no a plucky 12 year old irl probably can’t fight god no matter how much they love their friends and if a creepy old man beams out of the sky to tell them to then you should probably call the police. but if the show is positing the plucky 12 year old as the protag and the creepy old man as their mentor then just. go with it?

there is media that shows how a child protagonists’s adventures could be traumatizing and how the adults around the protag have failed them by letting them go on an adventure in the first place. that kind of story can resonate with kids too. but your takeaway from that kind of story should be “sometimes adults put kids in unfair situations and this is a fantastical representation of an irl situation.” your takaway shouldn’t be “the adults in this story suck for letting a 10 year old fight a dragon therefore every single story where a 10 year old fights a dragon should also talk about why all the adults involved suck and if they don’t then it’s a bad story” like. the dragon is not the point here!

frankly if you look at children’s media and cannot bring yourself to do the one bit of suspension of disbelief needed to keep the story going then. what are you doing here? if you want to explore how adults put children in dangerous situations and use an adventure style story as a backdrop then there are many works, both for children and adults, that explore this. but just because a piece of children’s media has the same vibes as another piece that explores something doesn’t make the first piece bad if it doesn’t explore it.

what you want is just a different story at that point. possibly one targeted at older audiences. or you’re just trying to be edgy. either way if you’re complaining about something like that then you need to understand that there are some stories that you’ll only be satisfied with if you rewrite the entire plot itself. at that point just reread/rewatch the thing you actually like instead of rewriting the whole book/show/movie to be a clone of it.
