anyway brandina time.
I've rambled before about how I love Dina Caliente and will defend her to the death etc, plus i'm a "dina was michael bachelor's young and questionable trophy wife" truther. I don't think she was ever necessarily a gold digger in a greedy manipulative sense, moreso that she valued the comfort/security found in wealth and Michael was well-off enough to provide that for her in exchange for him having a hot young wife and whatever. He came around the same time that Flamenco died, and Nighat had been dead since she was a kid, so she was entering the adult world functionally alone apart from her twin sister. I think Nina was probably jealous on some level of Dina/Michael, even if to most outsiders that relationship was questionable, because Nina just had her lameass high school boyfriend-situationship who she didn't actually want to be romantically involved with and whatever, but it still was a bit of a wedge to them for me. that's mostly irrelevant though. in turn Dina was totally jealous of Nina having Don in high school. usual sibling rivalry nonsense.
In my timeline, Michael died around the same time that Bella disappeared, so she and Mortimer ended up bonding in grief and kicked off their relationship. yknow still like, bizarre age gap but to me it's not intentionally malicious on either of their parts. BUT I do think that Mortimer as a partner did help her 'mature' in some ways, primarily because he had kids and wasn't as reckless and whatnot as Michael. She never marries Mortimer to me. She'd never be able to really replace Bella to him or his family and knows that. he has the world's angstiest verge-of-teenhood son and cassandra is literally her age. they're not about to see her as a real mom. Their relationship never really gets that deep to me, either. It gives her some time to come into her own and whatnot, be independent, etc.
Dina never went to college in my headcanon, she kinda just immediately married Michael and lived like that for a while, then lived half off his inheritance and maybe a lower-wage job of her own in the culinary industry. So sometime around her mid-to-late 20s, Mortimer also dies because he's so old. obviously that's sad for her again. With him she did have some more chances to sorta figure herself out beyond being a trophy wife, reconsider what's important to her.
MEANWHILE, Brandi was also engaged and married stupidly young. She was a teen mom to me. She and skip had a shotgun wedding, had their kids, Skip wasn't the best husband anyways before died, she went into a horrendous life-ruining grief period and alcoholism. the broke kids had it rough, the social worker breathing down her neck, etc. so she had to like, get sober eventually because Dustin had enough and had to move out and get his own life together before he lost it completely. she started doing yoga or a comparative social activity, introducing her to the Calientes, and they became friends because Brandi is so friendly and nice :) Dina's still with Mortimer, etc, but they're still getting along and Brandi's life is getting together.
Then Mortimer dies, Brandi's life is together enough and the kids are not little and in need of constant care anymore (not that she was great at that stage either but this is not a brandi broke parenting analysis post shhh). She is older than Dina to me by a bit but personal development wise they're now in the same place of "what do I do now". SO naturally they bond over that. and they start kissing about it because surprise. bisexuality.
to Brandi, Dina's nice. she can cook, she's been through grief more times than anyone can count, and is like an expert in "you need to do something fun for yourself" pep talks. to Dina, Brandi's recovery and work on herself + dedication to actually being a better parent is inspirational in a way. she doesn't really care at this point what people think of her, and Dina "professional arm candy" Caliente never really had a partner yet who had basically no expectations for how she came off to other people, giving her the most space she'd ever had to figure out her own life goals and dreams. brandi's all humble and whatever. her kids are annoying as hell but a very interesting change compared to the goth kids. dina's never a mom type to me but she does end up bonding with them all. whatever. yippee
I think after getting together, Dina would probably finally go to college or get a real career for herself otherwise. I think it can go a lot of ways. Both of them can cook. I think it'd be cute for them to open some kind of diner together :) or a similar thing. bake sale lesbians. mutual mid-life coming of age. trying to pick up the pieces of their young adulthoods not really belonging to them in a way that mattered. whatever!
#plumbog headcanon#its the sort of thing i think would work better as an actual written fic tbh#but i am sooo busy right now. and i am soooo bad at writing short succinct stories that perfectly capture my thoughts in brief.#especially since as characters they are both massively flawed and it'd be a challenge to both portray their happy future lives#without coming off like i handwave brandi being a shit parent to her kids for a chunk of their lives. idk its NUANCED#or dina with her age gaps.#i did a few dina-focused chapters in my monstrous giant fanfic that kinda suggested at her arc but from the most biased pov ever. sad!#and i SOOOO regret not putting in a later chapter of dina appearing again when i was writing it. i wanted to but couldnt work it in#but now i know what that chapter would look like and im considering just putting it as a oneshot but ahsdjflhj

Hi, thanks for answering my ask, If it's not too hard can you tell me your race head canons for all the Mercs?
You're the best.
Engie: BLACK. He is not white. no. no don't look at the game. or the comics. or anything else related to engineer tf2. you cannot see that man at night. he's too much of a southern-black-mother-haver to be white. who cares about his dad, his MOM was BLACK. Polite, mildly violent when he needs to be, intelligent? His momma not white you can't change me.
Soldier: Native/Black. Mother Inuit and father African, OG last name Domoraud, got shortened to Doe through Immigration; OG first name was Amaqjuaq, but his parents had to choose a name on the spot. He has many identity issues, don't ask. Never takes off his helmet 'cause he doesn't like his monolids.Very touchy about the subject of race because where he lived was probably nearly as bad as Texas in terms of racism, feels he needs to devote every waking second to America or else he doesn't belong there. Yeah. He needs a bit of help. Has a weird accent but he hides it pretty well. Wow I rambled there...
Spy: Black/asian. Wow I really just dipped Tf2 into charcoal, didn't I? Didn't realize how many of them I Poc-ified until I put it down on paper. His mom was an asian woman, very stern, but she had a soft spot for her gender-weird kid. Dad was a black man, sweetheart, but he wasn't good at caring for people. Mother was a ballet star and taught him, he fucking mastered it. Broke his hip and disabled himself for life, but mastered it. Somehow he dramatizes it even more that it already was, and what actually happened was already halfway out a soap opera.
Sniper: Native. Māroi biological and Aboriginal Aussie Adoptive. He's Native on top of Native. Family spoke Antakarinya at home and he taught himself Māroi. Like Soldier, he has identity issues because languages and cultures get jumbled up in his head sometimes. Hates getting told he can't participate in Aboriginal activities because he isn't actually related to his parents. "BITCH? I WAS RAISED DOING THIS SHIT?" Is very passionate about his culture, especially his Antakarinya, because that is a language two breaths from death.
Scout: Black/white. LIGHTSKIN. CHEERIO-LOOKIN' MOTHERFUCKER. LITTLE E-FUCK-FEMBOY ASS. Soon as he pull out that fried chicken he's in a chick's panties. No explanation because you don't need one.
Pyro: Black. Heavy Nigerian accent, even when their speech isn't muffled people can barely understand them at times. Doesn't have the best english pronunciation, but their voice is jacked up anyways, so it doesn't matter. Fluent in American and British ASL despite this. Big person, bigger heart. 6'7'' 265 LB person with a voice deep enough to hit the Earth's core skipping around in Kidcore Aesthetic™️ and putting stickers on everything.
Demo: Black. we all know buddy. Although I feel like the Scottish are so on a different plane of being that they should be their own race. Black/Scottish. Very smart and has multiple degrees in chemistry and he drinks so much his blood has turned into pure alcohol. Scottish behavior. He wears kilts often, but sadly wears pants under his most times because they're. yknow. on a battle ground. But I think it's a shame. Can you tell I am getting tired.
Medic: I don't fuckin know. German. His race is Germany. The whole country. You ask him his race because his skin is very swarthy so you can't tell whether he's a really tan white guy or a weirdly light black guy. He's a pacific islander/white mix, but he actually barely knows. He'll remember his mother was Polynesian and go Oh. I forgor [Insert skull emoji and a facebook minion meme about mortality}.
Heavy: Black/white mix. He got his mother's beauty marks and his dad's bulkiness. Weird genes, very light but he has very pronounced black facial features. Big nose, big lips, high cheekbones. He gets asked if he's albino more than you would think. People actually don't expect him to have such a heavy Siberian accent because you expect white Vodka twink or white vodka dad that sneezes real fucking hard to have that much of a accent, not the guy that looks like he came out of a Nella Larsen book.
OH MY FUCK I'M DONE.

so i've made some changes, the family structure especially has changed plus the circumstances of roxanna's death, and it kinda surprised me looking back at the original post how much it's changed and i didn't even realize.
• twins gillian and christopher anthony, as well as their younger brother glenn, are patrick's children. he had them with an unnamed wife who died when they were still young.
• patrick and ramone are not brothers, they have a natural rivalry that the chief of police and a mafia boss would of course. they could have been brothers in a different life, because roxanna and ramone were an item. together they had a daughter, who turned out to actually be a son (trans rights) zachary.
• (so zach is a cousin)
• roxanna and ramone had secretly been seeing each other because obviously roxanna does not want her ultimate narc brother knowing she's canoodling with the literal mob. patrick thinks roxanna is a single mother whose dad is completely out of the picture, but that's not quite true. ramone didn't really get involved with his child, but it was less out of not caring about him and more out of not wanting to involve their kid in yknow, mob stuff. he still sent good money home to support them and he and roxanna still banged on occasion.
• roxanna spent a lot of time with patrick's kids once their mom died because she didn't have a lot going on her life (she was living comfortably off that mob money. shhh don't tell patrick.) so the siblings and zach were raised close to each other. anthony especially in his grief over his mom really clung to roxanna. (no one tell anthony this but roxanna obviously favored zach, the kid that actually came out of her. she never let that show because she's not a monster, just thought i'd throw that in lmao)
• however one might patrick and his force finally raided ramone's complex and an intense shootout ensued. unfortunately that was one of the nights where roxanna and ramone were together there, so patrick ended up killing not only his long time rival but also his sister, who he had no idea was even there.
• all the kids were devastated by losing roxanna, who by that point had essentially been raising them for years. everyone except gillian, who was a big daddy's girl and never much cared for roxanna (who she viewed as trying to replace her real mom).
• as per protocol both ramone and roxanna's souls were saved in canisters. patrick took both of their souls back home. ramone's soul canister would be displayed like a trophy in his office. it's not uncommon for famous/infamous people's souls to be treated this way. it's kind of like how celebrities graves get robbed. it's a legal gray area so while a lot of people view it as immoral it's not technically illegal to treat souls like an item rather than human remains.
• patrick didn't want the kids finding out that he was the one responsible for roxanna's death, but it didn't take much to put two and two together. anthony especially was furious that yet another mother figure had been taken from him, and it was a screaming match. patrick didn't care about his sister very much, he was honestly more angry that she was involved in criminal activity than the fact that he'd accidentally killed her. he also didn't care about his kids, in fact he resented having to deal with them. (with the exception of gillian, she was the favorite and kissed his ass all the time) patrick was already planning on kicking anthony out of the house since he was 18, and he saw an opportunity.
• in an effort to be the most evil person ever, he told anthony that he was going to use roxanna's soul to make a legacy, and anthony would have to fend for himself in the world while taking care of that legacy, so he would know what it's like "having a little fucker who takes and takes from you." anthony knew that if he didn't agree to it, his aunt's soul would probably be disrespected, whether it be used at a footrest, sold, or worse. it was also a way for patrick to kind of "get back" at roxanna for putting a blemish on the day family reputation, even though this legacy isn't Actually roxanna.
• thus auggie was created, using a military grade machine. at the time, anthony said no to giving them an activation phrase, yknow the phrase that could trigger them to become a mindless drone with no agency. patrick super secretly programmed one in anyway, a secret mousekatool for later 🤫
• so, now anthony is 19 and he has a whole new person to look after, as well as zach, who patrick would not take custody of. now it's the same as before, anthony is struggling to take care of two minors while he's barely an adult himself. he gets into the criminal life as it's really his only option after being dropped into the shady underbelly of the city so suddenly.
• he meets my beloved blue eyed blonde boy dallas blackbell. after doing petty teenage crime for a while anthony finally managed to get a real job, and was trying to sort of get away from that kind of life, but dallas stuck around because zach and auggie had grown fond of him. anthony started getting annoyed at dallas' presence and definitely didn't like him being around auggie. after all it was roxanna's involvement with crime that got her killed.
• dallas is a stubborn little asshole though and didn't give up on auggie, because he could tell that anthony wasn't treating her right (see: overprotectiveness and locking her in her room to "protect" her)
• queue kitten, zach's mom, offering to take them out of illumine. zach and glenn go, knowing they'll have better opportunities for transitioning and medical school respectively. kitten won't accept auggie though and anthony won't leave auggie behind, resulting in it just being the two of them left in their tiny apartment. zach really hates having to leave auggie and tells dallas to keep an eye on them.
• something something auggie sneaking out of her window to go on adventures with dallas during the night.
• by this point several years had passed and gillian and anthony were back in touch, they would talk on the phone. they were very different people with very different opinions on patrick but he wanted to at least Try to get along with her since his family was so broken and scattered. during their conversations he mentioned how auggie was becoming rebellious and how he was afraid how they would end up. gillian ended up cheekily giving up the information that patrick had told her, auggie's activation phrase. anthony was disgusted and said he'd never use it, but uh oh now he knows. the mousekatool is planted.
• something something auggie getting that head wound, zach trying to use the activation word, auggie having a bitch you THOUGHT moment, emancipation, dallas taking auggie away from there so they can live in the van together and be gay
• zach officially moves back in with gillian after this since patrick no longer lives there, he's upgraded from police chief to politician now, with gillian taking his old job.
• i will write more about auggie and dallas' gay van adventures in a future post but this one is getting long

grieving with bpd is so... i wont say its worse or anything cuz im really not about that shit, anyone and almost everyone can and has felt this pain before, its a constant of life, but.. when im not actively sobbing and depressed and my mood switches up, it makes me feel so guilty. i should be spending that time in misery, i should be wailing and wiping more snot from my nose and my head should hurt worse like it was a few minutes ago, but yknow. emotional permanence n all that
its so funny, they keep trying to get me to believe in god, she says he'll show himself to me and ill find him my own way. i respect that she at least respects im not there yet (i dont think ill ever be truthfully but we can agree to disagree), but i just keep losing more and more, and any faith i had gets ripped away in an instant. there is no god worth worshipping, because someone worth worshipping would not put me through this pain again and again and again
3 pets dead within a YEAR. riley died june 29, 2022, talcum died in october of 2022, and now artemis, today. may 24. it hasnt even been a full year since riley died. i cant keep doing this man
i find myself less hopelessly despaired and choking on my spit wailing sad like the last two, only because im started to.. lose faith in everything. i feel cynical, it makes me MAD
because i did everything right this time. with riley, i made the mistake of even THINKING that it couldve been cancer, and then it was. i know that wasnt my fault, he had the tumor before i even came to visit and before we took him to the vet, but its still incredibly hard not to blame myself for that. talcum died of stress, because bruce kept jumping on his bird cage. i was so ashamed with myself that my MOM (who doesnt even view our pets as family, more like accessories) noticed talcum wasnt singing like he used to. i didnt even notice until the day after when my sibling was on the phone with every vet he could call to see if they took birds
i was optimistic this time, because it looked hopeful! it seemed like she would be okay, i told myself itll be fine and that we'll fix her up and she'll live longer because she deserves to. obviously that was completely useless because shes dead now, so none of that mattered. i didnt even get to say goodbye to her. i said bye when i left my grandmas house a few days ago, but.. its not the same.
i did everything right this time and obviously it didnt fucking matter because theres no fixing that. theres nothing you can do, death is the worst part of life and it never goes away. never gets easier, you can never outrun it. it makes me so sad that the ones who dont deserve it get it first. i know they were old cats but artemis wasnt THAT old. she probably wouldve lived happily for quite some time after, if everything turned out good. ive known them since i was 7. theyve been in my life forever, and now theyre both gone
god it hurts so much, it never gets easier. i just feel so hopeless right now. i wish i could freeze time, and we could just exist as we are forever. but i cant do that

I love analysis and debates to a weird degree, so for all its worth, your arguments are fantastic.
But at least we both agree that Mafumom is wrong because that's the whole point of the story. If anyone thinks otherwise then I think they need to reevaluate themselves more than anything
Also I'm using the argument that she knows only that one way and thinks any other is wrong because of her past with her family so I may be using the wrong terminology when explaining myself. But it is rather obvious she is living vicariously through Mafuyu, as you said. The more correct term maybe something along those lines. But I still stand by my theory that Mafumom's family is like that and she passed on her own troubles to Mafuyu because she took the wrong lessons to heart.
Also like, the woman is married. That's the real question here. How did she marry a nice guy like Mafuyu's dad? Granted he's absent but again, don't know his work and he's not the only parent in the story to not show up much in their kids life(Tenma's dad is a company executive and travels for work a lot too, but then again he's still involved so maybe bad example)
Is she normal in every thing but child raising? Probably since her husband didn't even realize what she's doing until it's too late, that and his work making him absent
If Sega isn't gonna give us the why she abused Mafuyu at least give us a how and why she got married. I want a divorce arc so bad, I think it would be a fun storyline. But rn it's a Mizuki storyline in the main Niigo events, so we won't circle back to Mafuyu for a bit
Oh! Who wants to make up backstories about Mafuyu's dad this time? We've analyzed her mom, what about her dad?
We know he's rich (implied in immiscible discord) and the main breadwinner, also has work busy enough that he isn't as actively involved in his one kid's life. But he isn't a bad man, just a man that fell into a bad situation in terms of family. If he is a prestigious man like Tenma dad, who is a company executive, it may have contributed to the pressure on Mafuyu. Yknow keep the Asahina name honorable or something by being a successful doctor. He certainly isn't like that tho, so more and more questions arise. Is his family accidentally helping pressure Mafuyu too? Or are they as absent as he is because of outside circumstances. What about Mafuyu's parents are they also pressuring her to pressure Mafuyu?
...
I need to write a fan fiction now
THANK YOU FOR INSPIRING ME
I love you ❤
Let's debate more, your insight has been helpful to my writers block
The more I read Mafuyu's stories the more confused I am about why her mom is like that. She has the temperament of a good parent, being able to control her emotions, but she chooses to guilt trip her kid who was probably scared after getting lost? She reacted calmly at first, but went about scolding her like Mafuyu is intentionally hurting her by getting lost instead of getting lost because she's a kid and stuff happens.
Like, if you can stay calm enough that your first response is to not scold her but check in on her, why would you guilt trip your kid after? A simple, don't it again, would've scared a kid enough to not do it again. But no! It's you're turning out to be a bad girl instead. Oh I'm sorry, who wasn't paying attention to her kid in a busy theme park? Not Mafuyu, but you
Girl could've been kidnapped and you'd have found a way to blame her, honestly
Honestly it seems like her mom is the culmination of the worst of toxic culture mixed into one and making it generational. I'm still gonna believe my theory that it's generational and that Mafuyu is breaking the generational trauma.
If Mafuyu really did end up being a doctor, what then? Yeah she would've been a great one, but what then? Being in the medical field ia stressful enough, add to it her not being able to feel her own emotions, what's gonna happen to the patients who needs their doctors to go beyond the physical and Mafuyu can't provide that?
What was the point of all that she did?
Mafuyu's mental state is shattered, add to it the stress of the medical field, it's easy to see where it'll end up. Again add to it the toxic work culture Japan has, if she gets lucky she gets a normal hospital, if not, good luck. That girl is gone and never moving up to be a successful doctor with her people pleasing facade. They're gonna take advantage of her.
Honestly, Mafuyu isn't even my favorite on the priority list, but the fact her mom exists is the only reason I want to dissect her. As a (young) adult with a somewhat good upbringing, she confuses me. No matter how hard I try to think from her perspective I can't. And as someone getting how to care for yourself advice now, she confuses me even more. Work all the time is obviously not optimal but that's just how it is in her head. It is optimal because Mafuyu is focused on that, she'll get it. Which isn't true, as Farewell my mask shows, girl cannot focus because test day is near and the stress of upsetting her mom pretty much makes her crash and burn.
I have so much thoughts. It's getting too long.

I am sick of DC killing off their heroes
I'm also sick of them keeping the same heroes and having them in like stasis age. It's annoying, especially as new characters are created.
You know what I want instead?
Let them retire.
Let Bruce hang up his cowl and hand the mantle to Cassandra, and maybe Terry later. His boys are already taking after him in other ways; Dick's become a wealthy philanthropist, Jason's probably gonna be the one to adopt 50 kids just by who he is as a person (Tyler, Bao, my personal headcanon for Shoes/Lian), and Tim is the world's greatest detective. Damian is...Damian. But he's finding his way. Let Bruce's children take an aspect of his and surpass him in it. Let him grow old with Selina!!! Also GIVE THEM HELENA!!!!
Speaking of Selina, let one of the Strays or eventually Helena take up her mantle. Maybe Lian can take her mantle, considering Emiko is Red Arrow and Roy is active...sorta. Just more cool cat ladies who aren't freakin Jade Nguyen please (no offense to any fans I just don't like her).
Let Clark be a guide and a guardian for Kon and Jon but sit back and be a person with a family unless there's a crisis. Let him just be a dorky reporter/farmboy with a loving wife looking after his aging parent(s? Is his dad alive? Continuity is weird) and being with his son and actually treating his other son like a son. Because Kon deserves it.
Let Diana stay in Themyscira or make a home on Earth. Or both! Let Donna take up the Wonder Woman mantle! Heck, let there be more than one! Nubia is a cool WW. And imagine Artemis! Maybe Cassie one day!
Fucking retire Hal Jordan. There are like 10 other earthbound Green Lanterns. John Stewart and Guy Gardner and even Kyle Rayner have had a shine in the limelight (heh limelight). Let people like Jessica Cruz and Jo Mullein and Keli Quintela get a little spotlight!
Let Arthur be a fucking king-dad. Let him just live a happy, mostly peaceful life with Mera. Let him have weird father-son bonding with Garth and Jackson. Let him raise Andy! Let him have Jr.!
Ollie will be a stubborn bitch until he fuckin dies, but put him on grandpa duty once this whole "Shoes has amnesia" thing is sorted out! He loved that when Lian was little and it was so fuckin cute. Imagine him teaching her how to shoot and she continually one-ups him because she's definitely Jade and Roy's kid, well-trained by Selina, and constantly reminds Ollie he's getting old. Once Connor's shit gets sorted, let him take up the mantle of Green Arrow again! Heck, he could do it just to prove he's better than Ollie and it'd be great.
Let. Dinah. Have. A. CHILD. She is such a good mom to Roy and to Connor even when she and Ollie are at odds, let her have her own child, even just by weird science! Give her a kiddo that can scream just like her, BAM new Canary. Bonus points if it's a boy or otherwise generally masculine kid and they still wear the fishnets as an adult. Power move.
Can Barry Allen have a break? Please? Heck, give Wally a break too, just for a bit! They've been through so much, let them chill with their wives (and maybe a boyfriend in Wally's case, I see those Nightwing crossovers) and kids and have normal-ish lives. There's so many cool speedsters! Don and Dawn Allen! Bart Allen! Wallace West! Jai and Irey West! Our enby Jesse Chambers! And that's not even all of them, there are so many fuckin speedsters.
I admittedly know next to nothing about J'onn J'onzz, but like, he's been through some shit too. M'gann can take over she seems pretty badass.
Like, just let the old heroes grow old. They don't even have to die, they can be weird wizened mentors with a running gag of 'how the fuck are you still alive?' and they just yknow, stick around. Like Alfred. (Fuck you he'll be back)
The new blood can shine without obliterating what came before.

Well clearly they want the family to go “hey yknow what fuck you grandma” and put her in the encanto’s nursing home or something. Genuinely though no idea what more people want from her, her entire house collapsed and almost killed the family - her number one worst fear realized - and she apologizes to everyone about it? Unreal fandom behavior
Yeah 100% agree.
I'm glad you mentioned nursing homes because it allows me to go on a bit of a tangent about why it is Americans seem to be the ones who have a problem with Encanto's ending.
I was actually talking to my mom the other day and she mentioned how bizarre and sad she finds the American cultural norm of not only just throwing your elderly relatives into a nursing home, but also the concept of kicking your kid out to fend for themselves the minute they turn 18. Like it just is not like that in Colombian culture (I don't wanna speak for other Latin American countries but it does seem like the general norm in most of their cultures as well that you don't just, stop supporting your family.)
There was a decent part of my life where my grandma lived in my home with us and while my grandma is living on her own in an apartment now, my dad takes care to visit her literally every day, and in today's pandemic climate, he brings her groceries and whatever else she might need when he can.
I am a full grown adult who has graduated college and has a job, and I still live with my parents due to my own financial struggles. In the US this is seen as embarrassing, but in Colombia this is the norm. My parents are expected to take care of me for as long as I need it and it is expected of me to pull my weight and to some day return the favor. Our relationship isn't always perfect but I will always sooner try to mend it then to up and leave.
It's no surprise most of the people who complain about Encanto's ending and over all message are white Americans. Because while yeah projection has a lot to do with it, it's also this American hyper individualism once again at play where they just cannot fathom another cultural view on family and what's expected of you in your roll as a part of a family.
Encanto is wish fulfilment for Latino kids who grew up in messy families. These same kids who despite the hardship, feel a duty and responsibility to their family. Most of us do see ourselves in the shoes of a Madrigal, suffering in silence for the sake of the family. The major difference here is that not all of us have the luxury of having an Abuela Alma who understands where she went wrong and actively strives to better herself. That's why it's important and that's why most white Americans simply will never understand.

For anyone who's upset that Shin-ae is angrier at Nol's lies rather than Nol sabotaging himself: She couldn't help it yknow. We can't avoid it, it's been set up for a long time.
For her life, she truly believes Nol is part of the Hirahara. Rika always calls Nol and Kousuke "the chairmans' sons." Kousuke and Randulf refer to Nol as "Yeong-gi" or "my brother/my son" in front of Shinae. Nol has always been present at Hirahara's party and he even called Yui "mother" (ep 144). Not once did any of the Hirahara ever openly admit Nol is not part of the family.
Even though Nol never introduce himself as a Hirahara and Shin-ae had her doubt at first,
her environment forced her to believe otherwise.
Shin-ae is just an ordinary Korean girl who has the usual one-name-per-person, and probably has a sheltered idea of "People with different identities are fake." She didn't know about the whole foreigners-can-have-2-names thing, and she never tried to care until now.
Shin-ae's uncaring, unjudgmental personality is like a double-edged sword. She would treat you regardless of your race, status or your past.
At the same time, it leads to her ignorance. It's what leads her to this shock.
She never thought about why a foreigner (example: german boy) lives in the middle of Asia.
She never heard the news of Hirahara's illegitimate son in the past because well... life. (let's remember that by the time the news was out, she's still in middle school and probably too preoccupied with her incident)
She never questions why a red-head has a Korean name even though he doesn't look like a Korean and his family is supposed to be Japanese.
Even if she picked up signs of Nol's oddness, she always brushed it off with "I'm just overthinking." She never really tried to piece them together.
But, who could blame her when she's already full of her own things to even think about others?
Shinae has a bad habit of blaming herself ever since her mom left her. She had a hard time to trust people when she always received harsh treatments from them. That one time when she decided to trust her first friend, "she" turned her back on her. pls read the prologue guys it hurts so much more now.
Shinae has been actively trying to ignore people in the earlier episodes to avoid this exact scenario:
Caring too much, and getting hurt.
And she failed to do that.
Shinae is trying so hard to upheld her promise to his dad: "Be strong." It became her mantra when she wears a facade, pretending like everything is okay even if it's not. Having Nol by her side to heal her, only to leave later on is like stabbing a knife in unhealed wounds.
Had she never loved him, she will never care, and she won't be this hurt. Added with the idea of "People with different identities are fake," her anger, confusion, and hurt are understandable. More than her anger to Nol, she's more angry at herself for failing the expectation she puts on her. She's back to her self-blame.
So yeah, as frustrating as it is, we had it coming. It's just unfortunate all around.
#i love yoo#ily#ily ch 153#webtoon#line webtoon#yoo shin ae#shin ae yoo#quim's writing is just incredible#that you have no choice but to accept the character's decision because it's been set up from long long ago#just fuck me man

ITS THE JACK HORNER SINGING CLIP
to live wit hyouuuuUuuUUuuuuuu.......
uhhh., well, uh,. i dunno... it's. not really what i expected? it was like,.. i dunno. i guess i was expecting just a classic mission adventure or maybe like, spinel was, i dunno doing something actively for the whole time...??? like the diamonds??? not, like, half recap half "running around town episode" but with world-ending stakes that..... wait what even happened to "this will kill all organic life"? is it because it was injected too quickly and only beach city was affected and steven could heal it over time..? whatever.
im not sure why i feel weird about it though, because this really followed the steven universe formula....... maaaaybe its because it was a musical and im not typically the type to watch those when song takes up over half the dialogue...? it was appropriately steven universe-y and not at the same time... it was different? i dunno it's just something about it rubbed me a weird way. anyway onto future.
watching steven universe for the first time. still on season 1. im noticing over half of the episodes are like... it's like regular show in that the first like half of the episode is relatively normal and kind of slice of life??? or at the very least just kind of stuff happening, and then after that shit picks up to a thousand, but unlike regular show it's taken super seriously and oftentimes what feels like act 3 movie character development happens out of nowhere. like idk some of these episodes have moments that would feel more deserved if there was more buildup or if it was part of like a multi-part special or something.
but other episodes are more like early adventure time. i cannot explain why

Yknow how the Cloud-Prom thing is a thing? Yeah well I was thinking of it in reverse. Prompto reborn as Cloud.
FINALLY FOUND THIS ASK.
It’s been buried so long I thought I’d never find it again.
BUCKLE UP NEW AU RAMBLE TIME AND IT’S A LOONNNNGG ONE.
Also before we begin *yeets canon FF7 timeline because it MAKES NO SENSE*.
There.
...
-Prompto wakes up when he’s 4 and he falls into a stream tainted with a LOT of mako while fleeing from bullies.
-Well technically he wakes up two weeks after that little mishap because mako poisoning plus sudden memory reboot is an Ouch and took a while for his tiny body to acclimate too. His mom (he has an actual non-adoptive mom now, that’s weird) is so relieved he’s okay and Prompto feels ... really bad that now he doesn’t entirely feel like her kid.
-He IS her kid and he knows it, but he remembers a time when he wasn’t, when he was an escaped science project and a Prince’s friend and a Crownsguard who saw the world end and then pick itself back up afterward. It’s impossible to go back to being ... well ... who he was before he Remembered.
-His mother accepts his new personality changes and “quirks” and Prompto loves her all over again for it.
-Cloud Strife is now a strange mix of too old and mature for his age and a bubbly, cheerful sunshine child. The residents look down on him because he “has no father”, but Prompto has suffered worse than their petty scorn and refuses to let it bother him.
-The local bullies learn to leave him alone pretty fast too, because Cloud may be small, but he has all of Prompto’s memories to back up his techniques, and bullies dislike pain. His mother just scoffs at the angry parents who complain about twisted wrists and black eyes and says maybe if they controlled their own children, hers wouldn’t have to resort to violence to defend themselves. It makes them no friends in Nibelheim, but there are a few neighbors who don’t buy into the town’s cliquish nature and they keep trouble away from the Strife home.
-Cloud is 7 when his mother finally stops letting him just handle her unloaded rifle with constant supervision and actually teaches him to shoot it. It feels young to Prompto, but Prompto had grown up in the sheltered city of Insomnia. This is Nibelheim, and Nibelheim’s wildlife don’t care how young he is or that they aren’t “supposed” to enter the town when they are young and dumb and hungry. Nibelheim also doesn’t have much in the way of a grocery store, and if the table needs food, someone is going to have to go shoot it.
-This at least, is familiar. Even in a world where he is no longer Prompto, and he’s pretty sure the world has been taken over by an evil Niflheim empire knockoff pretending to be a power company, he’d long gotten used to having to defend a settlement from things with teeth and go hunting to provide food.
-But back to the Evil Empire Pretending to Be A Power Company that he’s pretty sure has taken over most of the world- yeah. That was a nasty shock to figure out when he was 6. It’s nothing overt ... sorta. Just- you know- the way the elders grumble over how they were always small, but they were never ABANDONED until the reactor came and everyone started to work there rather than learn the old trades. The ivory carving and fur-tanning, the jewelry made of bones and fangs and shed dragon scales and the parkas made from wolf fur and rabbit hide that were second to none in quality. It hadn’t been the most thriving trade perhaps, but it had been something. Now all there was was the reactor, and that ... sat wrong with Prompto. There was also the rampant propaganda that was always pro Shinra, the news that this power company had just started a war (???) using their super soldiers (??????) and honestly why no one saw anything wrong with that was a mystery to him.
-Cloud is honestly glad that he’s living in such a backwater town. The farther away he is from That Nonsense the better. At least until he’s old enough to be able to properly fight and wield dual pistols like he used to.
-His mother buys him his own pistol when he’s 10. He’s responsible enough for it, and Nibelheim doesn’t really care about things like age laws that city folk do. Every child here knows how to safely use a firearm of some kind out of sheer necessity, even if most of them are not allowed to have their own until they’re closer to 12 or 13. He still primarily uses the family hunting rifle, since hunting for supper with a pistol is stupid, but he carries the pistol everywhere he goes in case something decides to try to make a meal out of him. It’s a battered old revolver, but Prompto spent ten years keeping equipment functional with minimal supplies, and soon his little Quicksilver is as fast and reliable as any “new” model.
-His mother doesn’t ask how he already knew how to disassemble and clean the pistol. She never asks when he knows things he has no right to, and he’s glad for that.
-Cloud is 11 when the abandoned Shinra Mansion stops being abandoned and those instincts that kept Prompto alive through the Long Night start screaming. It could be something innocuous, but those military trucks pulling around to the back of the mansion don't look like they’re only carrying supplies, and he’s not the only townsperson who thought they heard pained sobbing and smelled burnt flesh from inside some of those vehicles. Cloud thinks about keeping his nose out of it, he’s physically only a child after all, but the rest of him knows that if something goes wrong with ... whatever this is, then his entire town could be at risk of “disappearing” if Shinra is as bad as he thinks they are.
-The townsfolk aren’t supposed to go in there, too many monsters and it being private Shinra property after all, but the kids like their dares and their scary stories, and all of them know the secret ways to get inside and out again that bigger monsters can’t fit through and adults don’t notice. Cloud creeps around cautiously, pistol loaded just in case, and he can’t get INSIDE the actual building without being spotted, but he sees enough.
-This mansion isn’t a mansion. It’s a LAB. Those trucks were carrying lab equipment and supplies.
-And human victims.
-Cloud rushes home and throws up in the back yard and all he can think about is how two weeks ago the news mentioned a “radar malfunction” or something that led to an entire town being bombed out of existence and oh wouldn’t that explain the smell of burned skin?
-Cloud tries to stay out of it, but he CAN’T. He can’t in good conscience, so he keeps sneaking around, avoiding the guards and wondering what, exactly, to DO.
-He finds the ... disposal area and Regrets™, but every time he sees someone being thrown down there, he creeps over to check for a pulse. Just in case. Just in case.
-He’s thinking of stopping for his own sanity, because all of this is bringing up every trauma and nightmare he tried to forget from Prompto’s life, when he-
-Finds a little girl. Bloody and injured, with something imbedded in one frail hand that looks like shards of materia, and he expects her to be dead like all the others except she’s not and Prompto breathlessly carries her away on his back to hide in one of the tiny mountain caves he’s turned into a hideout over the years. He keeps a lot of stuff in there that his mother would never allow if she knew, things like a restore materia he won off a drifter in poker (and oh the man’s face at being outmatched by a 6 year old), and a surgical kit he ... found out in the wilds (it wasn’t like the man would need it anymore, the wolves had seen to that).
-He uses the restore materia five times before he’s sure the girl is as stable as she’s going to get on such short notice, then he stuffs a rag in her mouth and ties down her arm, because he may not know a lot about this world, but he knows shards of materia in her hand CAN’T be good for her health, long term or short. Materia absorbs magic from people on skin contact, so even in shards, there’s a high chance it will absorb her magic until there’s none left and then start going after her life force.
-Two hours later, he uses one last restore to seal shut the hand he just extracted the last bits of materia out of, throws the materia shards into the nearby mako spring that has been providing his light out of sheer spite to whoever imbedded the things in the first place, then passes out because he’s an 11 year old who just used six restore spells and performed field surgery on someone’s hand using his own tools and the bottle of alcohol he smuggled up here a long time ago as disinfectant.
-He wakes up a long time later, and by the time he gets back down the mountain to find his mom, the town is looking for him. He tells no one what really happened, but he needs SOME cover story because he’s kinda covered in blood from that whole- rescued a child out of a death pit and then did surgery on her hand thing. He makes up a story of a hunt gone wrong and hiding in a small cave until the wolf pack left and is grateful no one asks to see if his pistol is out of ammo or not. They just buy his story and move on to talking about hunting down this supposed wolf pack.
-When his mother takes him home, he tells her the truth. It’s the first time she’s doubted him since he was 4 years old. Shinra has already left again as suddenly as they’d come so it’s safe to take the bigger of the hidden entrances into the mansion grounds. He shows her how to get in, and while the death pit is a pile of smoking ash now, the signs (the bones) are still there and she is horrified. She is more horrified when he lets her into his secret cave and shows her the little girl, huddled up in his secret hideout’s fur blankets, still unconscious and deathly pale but at least not actively dying anymore.
-She agrees that this must remain a secret, for when Shinra eventually came back.
-They keep her hidden up there for three months with only a handful of other people in the know (all folk who Claudia has trusted with her life before and who she knows won’t go blab to the mayor). They feed her and care for her and discover she’s lost all her memories. They know about Kalm, it’s not hard to guess that her parents are likely dead and burned by now.
-Claudia names her Storm and says she will take care of Storm now, and Cloud hugs the stunned girl close and whispers that he’s always wanted a little sister.
-Six months after Kalm’s burning and Shinra Mansion’s return to empty haunted building status, Claudia lets the rumors spread that her cousin has died and left a child to be sent to Nibelheim to live with her. Since Claudia has always been closed mouthed about her family, this rumor is believed wholesale, and when one of those other folk in the know sneaks Storm down to the next town over a few hours before Claudia arrives in her battered old truck to “pick her up”, their alibi is as complete as it’s gonna get.
-They estimate that Storm is 9 years to Cloud’s 11, and she takes to being his cousin/sibling with a desperate sort of fervor. Cloud throws himself into being an older brother with equal devotion, even as he trains harder with his guns and survival skills and passes them on to Storm too.
-Cloud is 14 and maybe going a little stir crazy in his small town life (he’s grateful to be away from most of Shinra’s nonsense, but it does get REALLY BORING out here, especially with everyone his age leaving to go work for the Evil Empire In Disguise) when Storm tentatively asks what happened to her in the mansion. Cloud doesn’t know. But he’s got two pistols now and he’s not afraid of the local monsters, so he kisses her forehead and treks off to the mansion to find out.
-He fights his way into the mansion and finds all the creepy science papers and learns ... a lot.
-Apparently Evil Empire was playing god with things they knew little about, surprise surprise.
-Cloud tucks away Storm’s file (Felicia was her old name, interesting), and keeps digging. It takes a couple days of repeated visits (in between which he updates Storm and his increasingly alarmed mother of what he’s learned), but eventually he finds the files on Shinra’s golden boy Sephiroth and learns he’s had his DNA combined with a dead “ancient” (and if that’s really an ancient cetra and not some kind of horrible alien Prompto will eat his own shoes because there’s a picture of Jenova in the file and yeah, NOTHING HUMAN IS THAT SHADE OF BLUE kthanks). He digs even more through the mad ramblings, used to it after having to decipher ancient texts and Besithia’s mad rants with Ignis during the Long Night, and finds...
-Oh.
-That could be useful.
-Prompto treks down to the basement, then further down to a room filled with coffins. He wanders around until he finds the right one, flips it open, waits until the guy with Intense Vampire Vibes starts to wake up and ask who has disturbed his slumber, then interrupts with a cheerful, “I’m Cloud Strife. I’m going to steal everything in here I think is useful and then burn the rest to the ground. Do you wanna leave now or leave later when your cape is all crispy?”
-The man stares at him, “...What?”
-Cloud grins a little too wide and knows he looks very insane and ghoulish with the monster blood on his clothes, the dust and cobwebs in his hair, and the fire materia he’s juggling in his hands as he perches fearlessly on the edge of the coffin and simplifies, “Mansion go fwoof soon. You staying or leaving?”
-The man doesn’t seem to believe him, or even believe that he isn’t some kind of bad dream, so he just nudges Cloud off the coffin edge and shuts the top again. Cloud shrugs mentally, too frazzled and angry to care right now about Vampiric Drama Queens.
-He removes the relevant files that he’s found as well as any materia and weapons (and the diary of this one lady named Lucrecia who is apparently Sephiroth’s REAL mom and Mister Vampire’s former lover), then “borrows” a gas can from his mom’s shed and ensures that the dry, rotten floorboards of the mansion are thoroughly soaked in the stuff before wandering outside the back way, getting to a safe-ish distance and throwing a fireball through the broken window.
-The mansion does indeed make a loud and eager “fwoof” sound as it goes up in flames. Cloud watches the inferno with possibly too much maniacal laughter (hey he’s STRESSED okay? He’s getting the impression that HE’S the one the lifestream has decided to make it’s errand boy to save the world and he DOESN’T LIKE IT so just let him VENT), then laughs harder when a wall breaks open and out storms a slightly crispy and very unimpressed Vampire Drama Queen. Did Cloud maybe take too much glee in ensuring the gas had gotten into the basement too to make sure ALL of the mansion went up? Probably. Did he regret it?
-No. Not in the slightest.
-One very unimpressed Vampire stare down that became genuine alarm when Cloud’s laughing fit turned into childish bawling later (stupid child stress hormones turning everything to tears when he least expected it, then again he’d always been a crybaby as Prompto in his own eyes) and Cloud leads Vampire Man home because he isn’t sure what else to do. He also makes Vampire Man (Vincent Valentine, the man sighs after the seventh time being called a Vampire) carry the diary and the most relevant papers down to his house. The other ones he hides in his cave for now, just in case.
-His mom breaks out the strong stuff halfway through Cloud’s story and shares sympathetic looks with Vincent over Cloud’s pyromania. Then he explains what he’s found and thinks about “Jenova” and while Vincent is skeptical, his mom has seen too much of Cloud’s weirdness not to believe him at this point. Cloud mentions that there are hints that at least some of the thing is up in the reactor. Storm cuddles up to her brother and solemnly asks if he’s going to go set the blue alien on fire too.
-Cloud says yes, Claudia sighs, and Vincent looks like he has a headache.
-Two weeks of preparations (and waiting out Shinra’s investigation of the fire, which they SOMEHOW deem an accident), a long hike, and some angry swearing from Claudia as she shorts out the security cameras (since when could his mom do that) later, and they have indeed found part of the blue alien woman. Their plan is interrupted when Vincent unexpectedly transforms into some kind of mini- dragon- monster- THING and aggressively fills the entire glass tank Jenova is in with blood red fire, but after THAT little episode is done, the Thing in Vincent’s skin eyes Cloud, starts laughing, calls him “the Chosen’s Little Argentum”, and cedes control back to one very dizzy Vincent.
-They all decide to call it a week after that.
...
Gonna wrap this up soon because ow my hands but some other thoughts on this is-
-Cloud and Storm start traveling to get answers and also to stay under Shinra’s radar, Vincent goes with because for some reason Chaos finds Cloud amusing and is willing to be quiet around the boy and also because this child CLEARLY needs a keeper and his pseudo-sister is his old partner’s DAUGHTER who was experimented on by Hojo and saved by Cloud so he can’t just leave now can he? Also the Lucrecia diary enlightens him to some things, like how Sephiroth is still alive and kicking (and currently sane!).
-Also Claudia comes with because she is a Good Mom and not about to let her 13 year old, her 11 year old, and a quasi-immortal Turk galavant around the countryside without adult supervision.
-Claudia and Vincent bicker like an old married couple and honestly Cloud is content to ship them so long as Vincent treats his mom right, and the ex-Turk would be amused by the Shovel Talk he gets early on if not for the sneaking suspicion (read: Chaos’s cackling) that this tiny blond menace guising as sunshine could actually pull it off, science immortality or no.
-Storm takes to swords like a duck to water and Cloud teaches her what he remembers, which is around the time Vincent asks about why Cloud Is The Way He Is and Claudia tells him that her son is a reincarnation. Honestly Cloud is just as flabbergasted as Vincent because since when did his mom know that?
-”Since you started talking in ancient forgotten languages during your hyper moments when you were four,” is the placid answer.
-They eventually wander into Midgar because What Is Self-Preservation and find Aerith. Aerith gloms onto Cloud and smiles a teary smile and calls him “Prompto” and that’s when he learns that Aerith is LUNA.
-They meet Zack outside of Midgar where Zack is playing Hunter rather than joining Soldier. Cloud and Zack stare at each other for like- twenty seconds before hugging for dear life and crying all over each other because it’s NOCTIS and THEY MISSED EACH OTHER SO MUCH.
-Zack still has armiger magic and gives it to everyone involved save Vincent, who looks like he might actually have an aneurysm if anymore Weirdness gets attached to his soul. He already has two (now three and one absentee sort of fourth) crazy children to look after, please keep the ancient magic away from his already battered soul.
-Not sure who/if Iggy and Gladio are reborn as, I’ll think about it.
-Fixit shenanigans ensue. The Turks get converted to the cause because 1. Veld’s old partner is back and 2. his supposedly dead daughter shyly turns up decidedly NOT dead and with proof that Hojo experimented on her (he nearly flips a table and the scars on her hand from Prompto’s field surgery hurt Veld’s SOUL).
-Claudia is Team Mom of the Turks now, she’s not sure how.
-Zack and Cloud put their heads together and decide the PERFECT way to infiltrate and ruin Shinra’s hold on Sephiroth is to-
-Have one of them become his secretary/assistant. Cloud loses the coin toss, so now Sephiroth has a personal ray of sunshine and good morals following him everywhere like a stray kitten. It’s working WAY more than it has any right to.
-Someone (read: the newly converted to the cause Turks and a gleeful Vincent) start slipping Reeve data on what the mako reactors are really doing to the planet. Also Hojo ends up dead. So does Rupert.
-Also also Claudia is Rupert’s sister, so Rufus gets an aunt figure to imprint proper morals into his skull through love, sarcasm, and good food.
-There I’m out of thoughts on this AU for now.

MMMMMMMMMMM
Beetlejuice HLVRAI AU!!!!!!
Bubby and Coomer are newlyweds who recently retired to their dream home in the countryside away from annoying people who pester them about their domestic lives. They kinda wanted a kid at some point but they fear they’re too old at this point… and dangerous because they be rowdy.
Speaking of rowdy, their happy home life comes to an abrupt end when a playful scuffle in the old house turns deadly. A tumble down the broken stairs paired with uncontrollable pyrokenisis when startled burns the house down with them inside.
They “wake up” quite a while later with pained groans as they dust themselves off, thinking they just woke up from being knocked out. A regular occurrence. But this time something is wrong. Their home looks the same… yet completely different. Like someone came in while they were out and teeter all their stuff out and replaced it with cheesy white southern suburban mom decor.
Enter Deborah Freeman and her son Gordon Freeman and his son Joshua Freeman. Debby bought the land with the money she got from her late husband’s death and paid for the house to be rebuilt and restored. Her 27 year old son and his son has recently moved in following a terrible divorce from a rather abusive jerk and being fired from his dream job because of a work related accident. Tack on the recent death of his father and being forced to live with his controlling mother again and that leaves poor Gordon severely depressed.
Bubby is the first to try and fight the strange woman in his house. But upon realizing he can’t touch them and Coomer pointing out the more obvious changes… they come to the realization that they’re dead with a dawning dread.
They watch this annoying woman stomp through their home and go through their old things with her clearly not all there son for a few days with growing rage, the kid is okay and kinda cute but the bitch and the guy need to GO
In comes a new player in this fucked up game, an antagonistic demon that promises them help with their endeavor… for a simple price. They have to help him get one of these breathers to say his name.
Antics ensue with increasing hilarity and annoyance from all parties.
The three of them almost give up… when one day the crazy bitch leaves for the day with the kid to go shopping and Gordon is left alone at the house. He can finally let out a sigh he’s been holding for weeks now, deflating a little as he sits in the living room starring at his hands for a while.
Bubby drapés himself dramatically over an armchair as he loudly complains about the situation, sits in another chair across from him equally as frustrated but not as vocal. Benrey is busy messing with a few curls of Gordon’s hair, confident this adorable breather can’t see any of them like most can’t.
A knock at the door has Gordon slowly getting to his feet to answer it, inviting in his friends Tommy and his bf Darnold. They all get seated in the livingroom with hot cups of tea, unknowingly booting the angry dead gays from their seats, but this is when the three specters get the shock of their unlives.
Gordon is venting to his friends about the past couple weeks. And the main reason he hasn’t been improving any mentally is not only because of his mother, but he fears he’s going insane. He vividly describes Bubby, Coomer, and Benrey to his friends and even seems to glance at them as he does.
He can see them. And he’s been able to see them for some time. But because they are constantly antagonizing and haunting him to get him to leave… he believes they’re figments of his imagination. A form of creeping psychosis or something.
His friends can’t do much to comfort him but they try until they have to go. Alone again Benrey is the first to slide up to Gordon with that shit eating grin of his and speaks to him for the first time. Of course Gordon tries to actively ignore him, but when Coomer and Bubby join in he finally snaps and tells them to fuck off while curling up on the floor to try and shut them out.
It works for a while. Starting the next day tho the tactics change a little from trying to drive Gordon and his family insane or out or something to… talking. It starts with Coomer. Gordon has to clean out the basement and finds some of the salvaged boxing gear. The dead old coot starts reminiscing to himself about the good old days, but is surprised to see Gordon listing. He even speaks to Coomer for the first time, asking more about it all. They bond a little over that and Bubby gets dragged in when he comes to see why Coomer is shouting and sounding like he’s in a fight. He’s just very animated when retelling old tales of the ring and the shit he and Bubby would get up to in their glory days.
From then on, when he’s alone, Gordon would happily chat with Bubby and Coomer, the three of them becoming more and more friendly… while he actively goes out of his way to ignore Benrey and his weird and creepy advances and hurtful teasing to the point the demon is sure Gordon can’t actually see him like he thought he could.
So, Benrey do what Benrey do and he goes to mope on the roof, killing crows and pigeons with his freaky demon powers as he hums an annoyed and sad tune. He’s sure the curse will never be lifted now…
But, what he doesn’t know is that uhhhh… while he was up here having his own little potty party, the tension in the house has gotten a lot thicker between Gordon and his mom. Thank god Joshua is deaf and likes to play in his room more often than not because dear god does that woman tear into Gordon for every little thing. What set her off? Gordon was too scared to ask but he was left shaking by the time she calmed down enough to hiss out a single threat and leave.
Probably has something to do with Gordon being “lazy” and “unmanly” and all that toxic shit because he is currently unemployed and too depressed right now to do much of anything lately. No job, can’t act like a maid and clean the house the way she likes, talks too much, doesn’t talk enough, his long hair looks unkempt, and no wonder why his ex acted the way they did with a layabout washout like him…
“I’m surprised [redacted] didn’t do worse.”
Fucking caused his arm to get amputated.
Yknow, abusive mom shit.
So after a heavy cry and when he’s in that weird numb phase, he heads up to the roof. To get some fresh air, to be alone, to fee at one with the night sky and the breeze… to contemplate just stepping of the roof and ending the suffering once and for all…
Gordon lets out a frustrated groan, the bubbling irritation cutting through his fog as he hears Benrey loudly rant about his plight.
“Shut the hell up, man! We’ve all got problems, you’re not special.”
“Huh-wha? You can- you see- you can see me?”
“See you, hear you, want to fucking deck you in the goddamn face for messing with me…”
-LOUD GASP-
“A FRIEND!”
“No-“
Fuckin musical number here
Bubby and Coomer have been looking for Gordon ever since things have calmed down, they were looking after the bab during the fight, but now the angry old ghosts are concerned old ghosts.
Hell yeah gordon reluctantly agrees to marry the demon if he can fuckin off or scare his mom shitless or something. But only as a last resort because apparently the two old ghosts aren’t as useless as they once thought.
The deus ex machina of the story is Tommy believing Gordon because he’s secretly into the paranormal stuff plus his dad isn’t human so he kinda crashes the “wedding” with his dad who basically spritzes Benrey with a squeeze bottle of holy water like he’s a fucking cat.
“This is a slow burn fic… not marriage at first sight…”
All in all, in the end Gordon’s mom dies of natural causes and he gets the house and apparently a heafty inheritance from his dad his mom was hiding from him so he lives happily ever after in the mini mansion sized house with his son, his two gay roommates who are slowly restoring their home, and a demon who is certain they are at the very least dating if not engaged.
Gordon doesn’t deny it but he won’t confirm it either.

timezones suck!! but hello everyone and thank you for the warm welcomes ♡ i bring you all miss han yurim aka etoile’s lead vocalist aka accidental idol. here is her profile and her career page. unfortunately, i wasn’t able to come through with a plots page, but i do have some ideas that i’ll throw down below the cut. also below the cut will, hopefully, be a brief introduction to yurim and so feel free to press that little heart if you’d like to plot, and i’ll come hopping over to your im’s!
background!!
yurim comes from a very loving family. she’s the youngest with her dad being a firefighter and her mom and accountant which also means her financial status is middle class at the least though yeouido isn’t the cheapest place to live. her older sister’s like six years older than her as well so you can guess how much adoration yurim’s gotten ever since she was practically born. this is all setting up for me to explain that yurim has really high self-esteem which comes in handy with this job lol
never actually had thoughts of being an idol. when she was younger, most of her time was spent with books and with paint because she loves to draw! it’s still one of her hobbies today as well as a skill that the company likes to use on variety shows and stuff (”yurim-ssi, can you draw one of the cast members for us?”) though she kind of hates doing that
starts singing as a hobby after her friends tell her she has a really pretty voice. asks to be sent to a vocal academy because when she wants to do something, she wants to do it well!! from there, she probably spends like six to seven months before an instructor convinces her to join yuseong’s open audition where she ends up getting second?? she’s as confused as the next person tbh
thinks that’s it, but then she’s getting offered a trainee contract? and yeah... you can see where that led her to lmao debuting as etoile’s lead vocalist!! which is why i describe her as an accidental idol because she never intended for this to be her line of work
as a trainee, she was pretty shocked by the competitive nature and would usually take a step back if it seemed like she was getting involved in something too intense. yurim’s very much the type to “lose” in an argument solely because she doesn’t want to get into an argument; she sees them as a big waste of time!! the type to insist that having pride is the stupidest thing because it’s all worthless at the end of the day. what’s pride going to get you more than possibly a fist to your face yknow
she’s one of those idols who is very sincere and genuine to her fans, but she’s pretty quiet on-screen so people who may not know etoile well enough other than their hit songs will probably question why she’s an idol (think vixx’s leo in terms of public image)
her haters will try to smear her by insisting that she’s not working hard enough or that she’s not doing her job enough which isn’t completely wrong because she’s not the type to like go out of her way to be active on shows and stuff? but she does aegyo when her fans ask for it, leaves long messages on fancafes for her fans, gives her best on stage (she has good stage presence!!) and is basically a really good idol for her fans as she thinks that’s all that matters
remember that part where i said she has very self high-esteem? that means hate comments really don’t affect her because she knows who she is as a person and that those lousy comments on the internet aren’t going to affect her life at all lol
behind the cameras, she’s not all too different from her idol persona. she’s quiet, likes to observe rather than participate in things actively which can make her come off as being super distant and uninterested. but she has a really kind heart and is genuine with her interactions with people
to this day, doesn’t really have any dreams or aspirations as an idol, but she’s here so she’ll do it until her contract expires or etoile’s career comes to an end. whichever comes first!! but do not question her passion for singing because that much is very real
possible plot ideas!!
someone who trained at yuseong at the same time (2016-2017) and thinks that yurim doesn’t deserve her spot in etoile because she doesn’t appear passionate enough. maybe you had another trainee friend who didn’t make it but yurim did so it leaves you bitter? though that’s just a random tidbit that doesn’t have to be used!!
you wonder how yurim manages to remain so confident in herself despite this line of work. idols get hate thrown at them here and there, and you’re a victim to that as well but you see yurim who just happens to skip past all that without being affected and it confuses you
you happen to get shipped with yurim a lot and it can either a) make you want to avoid her or b) make you want to approach her because it’s funny. yurim falls on the latter in which she thinks fanships are kind of funny because she can’t imagine what makes people want to “ship” two idols together
you think yurim’s boring and try to get her to be more active in things? whether you meet on set of a variety show and try to involve her or if it’s off-camera, then maybe get her to do something adventurous
you don’t think yurim should be an idol if she never wanted to be one, and you ask her why she’s still here?
some more casual work relationships that end up getting deeper? like you meet yurim so much either backstage or at the salon or on the same shows, and you end up talking to her all the time anyway that she’s become some sort of confidant? she’s not a woman of many words which means she does a great job at listening
something angsty would be lovely too because i love a good heartbreak or two! ex-boyfriends, past/current unrequited crushes, ex-friends for some reason
you happen to really like yurim’s voice, and she’s flattered really!! <3

I saw YOLOTL CÓRCEGA at a coffee shop in MANHATTAN today. She is a TWENTY-FIVE year old BUSINESSWOMAN who’s been in NYC for [SIX YEARS] now. Every time we run into each other, they are always CULTURED & DEVOTED but I’ve heard people say they can also be STOIC & CALLOUS. THE MAN BY TAYLOR SWIFT reminds me of them every time it comes on the radio. // @villagestart
TW: mentions of cheating, criminal activities, divorce and family separation below.
hello everybody you know me as g aka the mess behind the bigger mess that is alexander warren and i am here to bring you one of my favorite kids ever, my daughter yolo who, of course, is also a mess because i can’t write happy, easy-going characters. let’s get down to it:
HISTORY
CHEATING AND FAMILY SEPARATION TW: Yolotl was born in Tequila, Jalisco on September 15th 1994, the product of an illicit affair between her father, Gabriel Córcega, an important business owner largely known in Mexico and one of his employees. The impromptu news didn’t sit right with Marcela Del Valle, Gabriel’s wife, who immediately ordered her husband to disappear every trace of his affair before anyone in town found out. What no one expected was for Gabriel to already have a kid with the woman no one knew about two years older than Yolotl.
Gabriel, in dispair, gave the woman some savings he had and helped her disappear from Tequila, not without an agreement whatsoever: he’d get to keep one of the kids and raise her.
When Gabriel returned to the house with Yolo in his arms but no trace of his remaining family, Marcela agreed on playing make-belief and tell the world the little girl was the second child of the marriage. The family never spoke of this again.
She and her “legitimate” older brother grew up surrounded by luxury: anything money could buy was granted to them as the Córcega name grew exponentially during Yolotl’s first years of life, the family went from having a sucessful tequila emporium to become a brand: nightclubs, hotels, soccer teams and more. The Córcega marriage decided the best and safest idea for the two kids was to be homeschooled, since the family traveled a lot due to the various businesses around the world Gabriel possessed.
Being only the two siblings most of the time, since their parent’s schedule was quite busy, Yolotl and her older brother became best friends. He became her hero, taught her everything she knew and more, became the getaway to her biggest passion in life: literature. It was a hobby the Córcega siblings shared.
The day of Yolo’s birthday, the Córcegas woke up with the news that Marcela had left the family and had run away to Europe, asking the rest of the family to forget about her
Upon Yolo’s graduation, the Córcega clan moved to New York and she enrolled in Columbia Business School where she got an MBA in Business Administration. She is working on her PhD in Modern and Contemporary Literature.
While in college, Yolo met someone whom she quickly fell in love with and the couple married not even a year after meeting, against all odds and advices from others. The first few years were perfect, Yolotl loved her spouse and playing housewife and was perhaps for the very first time in her life truly happy. During this time, Yolo started writing books she decided to publish as a surname, deciding she wanted people to like what she wrote authentically and not because of the Córcega name. On that, she succeeded, she became a renown author under a surname, a secret she keeps to date.
CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES AND DIVORCE TW: However that happiness didn’t last long (nothing ever does, does it?) Her father started having legal and health problems, her world was beginning to crumble which definitely didn’t help the already tense marriage which ended in a divorce after a little less than five years, leaving her heartbroken and on top of that, her father was in serious trouble with a criminal organization back in Mexico after refusing to keep working with them, something Yolo herself wasn’t aware of. Something else she wasn’t aware of: the leader of the organization was the man Marcela ran away with and was now threatening Yolo’s dad, alas he had to hide and
Another truth that was told to her the day her father finally decided to speak candidly before disappearing was the existence of her real family; the brother she had and her real mother’s existance, which left Yolo brokenhearted.
Before parting ways after finally coming clean about all the lies her father had ever told her and disappearing, Gabriel named Yolo the CEO of the Córcega company.
NOW
Yolo owns one of Manhattan’s most renown hotels and a rooftop bars which she tries to manage herself on top of being the co-CEO of Córcega Onterprices (a position she “shares” with her brother) and trying to deal the mess her parents left behind. She’s… a little stressed™
She’s still on the divorce process and she is having a HARD time dealing it, she views divorce as a failure on her part, even though she doesn’t show it
PERSONALITY
okay so think angelica schuyler meets blair waldorf meets klaus baudelaire meets belle meets angela moss meets fuck up.
workaholic. i’m talking 24/7, work, non-stop. *fucking u and answering e-mails on the side* type of workaholic
big nerd, lowkey tho. she has like two personalities, the work-hard, femme fatale she uses with EVERYONE and then the nerd soccer mom she uses only with people she’s REALLY close to
uses sex and every advantage she has to get what she wants so… totes a dom but likes to be a sub from time to time and has all sorts of kinks lbr i mean what?
CULTURED AF
has a bit of an alcohol problem (i sense a pattern in my muses)
she used to have this bitchy reputation before the whole thing with her family went down and used to take advantage of that but she’s really not a bitch unless… yknow… you mess with her or her family or her friends then lmao gl she’ll ruin you, she’s a bit more human now i promise
a true slytherin, lives by the words ‘work hard, play hard’
TL;DR: lowkey a v sad and lonely rich girl who’s dealt with a lot who can act like a bitch but in reality... is only a bitch if she needs to be. v ambitious, workaholic.
POTENTIAL PLOTS:
older brother: the one person in life she truly trusts in the whol damn universe i mean... probably her best friend ngl (will be a wc on the main)
her husband?: they are in the middle of a divorce, about to finish off their marriage... or are they? guess we’ll never know. he’s been the only person she’s ever truly loved AND I WANNA SEE THAT i’ve never seen her in love i’m sorry
distant family? that could be fun
best friend: every girl needs a best friend they can confide in between champagne glasses and chocolate covered strawberries... she is very loyal to the people she ACTUALLY lets in i promise she’s a great friend
people who work for her: ESPECIALLY AN ASSISTANT OH MY GOD she needs that but ok, she owns a rooftop bar and a hotel so... barkeeps, waiters, chefs, hotel manager... all that jazz. she is also v loyal to the people who work for her ngl she was taught to treat the people who work next to her like family SO
enemies: i know my kid... 90% of the population doesn’t like her so... let’s play into that
fwb, hookups, one-side crushes, exes, friends, neighbors... the sky is the limit!
okay honestly if you read that whole telenovela… i love you and if you read what a mess i’ve created (it’s my true passion in life) and you still wanna plot with her… you’re a goddamn saint and i’m ready to marry you or plot with you so hmu or like this for that. marriage and/or plotting, whatever.

How do you picture Steve's mom and dad to be like??
so if we’re talking literal mental picture me and sarah @steveharrington have decided that his parents are jennifer garner and timothy olyphant because i think they’d look believably related ALSO i think it would be fun if his parents were just like rich and sexy and miserable.... like imagine THIS family keeping up nice appearances in public and then falling apart screaming at the dinner table....
so anyways i think steve’s dad is probably really distant and only pays attention to steve enough to make sure steve is behaving the way he wants him to yknow? like the only time he ever really gets involved in steve’s life is when he’s punishing him or making sure steve’s doing what he wants him to. steve never hesitates to insult his dad, and he never does the “i know he loves me but-” or “i love him but-” thing, he just straight-up calls his dad an asshole multiple times, which makes me think that his father is far more focused on his work and his reputation than he is his family. he only really cares about steve when he’s misbehaving or not living up to his standards. i think steve’s mom is probably more involved and loving. we know that she and karen know each other, she’s well respected in the community, and she’s able to go on business trips with his dad in the middle of the week, all of which implies to me that she’s a stay-at-home mom who’s probably active in the church and other community things in hawkins.
steve’s uncomfortably immaculate bedroom and offensively preppy s1 wardrobe indicate to me that his mom probably tries to keep tight control over her household and really wants things to look a certain way. like, i don’t think steve bought himself all of those fucking polo shirts and khakis. his mommy bought them and said he looked so handsome in them and he said okay <3 because he loves his mommy. steve’s casual references to his dad being a dick and his parents’ marriage troubles makes me think that maybe his mom confides in him about her problems with his father the way that a lot of mothers tend to do with their children. i think that steve’s mom is probably a bit of a mental/emotional mess from being like a homemaker whose only child is essentially grown and whose husband is unfaithful and who (presumably) doesn’t have any income/career of her own. steve’s always been the type to try and bottle things up, to avoid asking for help, to elect himself as the grownup in any given situation, so i think that maybe steve’s mom has done the whole “use my child as my best friend and therapist” thing and since he loves her and sympathizes with her, he then tries not to need any help himself, tries to be the grownup, because he doesn’t want to cause trouble.
that’s about it basically i think his family is very sexy and dysfunctional and maybe his mom has a wine problem :)

hi, hi~ yes, it is i, min, and i have here my soft baby mori girl, jiwon. i'm fairly active now after falling off the face of rp, and i have vague plots for my flower child but i'm always open to brainstorm. more info on the flower child under the cut. she's easily startled so tread with caution.
about jiwon.
your resident town florist, go-to for every occasion, arrangements for offerings to temples, and gives out free flowers to the old ladies and hardworking moms passing-by
makes you wonder if she even earns anything from said flower shop, because half the time she just gives out those flowers or brings them to the temples
tw: domestic abuse parents have split up when she was young, and she witnessed what her mom called 'the last straw' in a series of fights.
lives alone in her mom's old house, with a front yard filled with flowers and an apple tree that neighborhood kids always steal get their apple from
soft-spoken (like really soft-spoken do u hear urself child?)
the next-door-neighbor who always gives out pies, fruits, and greets you in the morning before you head off to work; would probably watch your house or your kids
did i mention she's kind? yeah, she's kind, and generous, and compassionate... and she's nice that it's so frustrating.
never rarely shows anger or annoyance, and just smiles, bows her head for the inconvenience. she'd be perfect for customer service really
ngl gullible, and very easy to manipulate, and won't really get mad even if she figures out you did because she thinks you have a reason for doing it
always in a good mood, seems really sociable but not sure if she really has real friends but yknow what she doesn't think about that
just really wants to keep living her peaceful and organized life, following a somewhat specific schedule. she likes that it's predictable, and she knows it well, and that she can survive with how things are now
she'll go crazy in another universe. go on a rampage for funsies idk. we'll all wait and see.
