thinking about a universe where Buck never went to the basketball game, or at least never body-checked Eddie. Buck still has this weird feeling, but he goes home and he tries not to think about it, and he goes to work and he tries not to think about it, and Eddie tells him about the drinks he and Tommy grabbed after the game and he tries not to think too much about the twist in his gut or the shiver down his spine. but then he gets a call from Tommy asking if he was serious about those flying lessons, and Buck says yes before he even processes the question because all he hears is that he'll get to spend time with Tommy without anyone else there. he doesn't quite understand why but he knows that's what wants. So he and Tommy meet up at the hangar for a lesson, and one lesson turns into two turns into four turns into drinks after shifts and Tommy's karaoke bar trivia. And he and Tommy are friends now but that fluttery feeling in his stomach never quite goes away. One day Tommy offers to show him some muay thai moves and Buck doesn't think anything of it until Tommy is shirtless and sweaty and Buck loses focus long enough for Tommy to end up on top of him and Buck's face is burning up in a way he knows is from more than the workout but he doesn't know why. Buck goes home after that hot and bothered and really confused and maybe he just needs to start dating again. It has been a while since he and Natalia broke up, but he scrolls through a dating app for a half hour, and none of the women that show up are appealing so he goes to sleep unsatisfied, mind drifting to hard muscles and big arms and a crinkly smile that he doesn't remember in the morning. This goes on for a little while, where he hangs out with Tommy, and his stomach flutters in a way he can't explain. Until one day after flying lessons, Tommy comes up to his apartment, and Buck hands him a beer, and the two of them are sitting next to each other at the kitchen island just talking about life and work and flying, and the whole time Buck is hanging on Tommy's every word, looking directly in his eyes, ever so slightly tilting his head, moving his arm closer, scooting forward in his chair, and he doesn't even realize what he's doing except Tommy's voice is low and gravelly, and Buck's face is heating up again, and it's getting hard to keep looking at him so he goes to get another beer, and when he comes back Tommy is standing. And he's just a hair taller than Buck, but it's enough to make his breath catch in his throat. In this universe, when Tommy leans in, his fingers guiding Buck's chin up to his lips, he's slow and deliberate. In this universe, Buck kisses him back harder and hungrier, because even though he still wasn't sure what it was Tommy was making him feel, he can't say he's surprised this is where they ended up. In this universe, Tommy takes weeks to kiss him, but it's longer and hotter and doesn't just stop at a peck.

Save it For a Rainy Day
Week #9 Prompt: Where It All Started | Word Count: 1950 | Rating: T | POV: Wayne | Characters: Wayne, Eddie, Steve | Pairings: Wayne & Eddie, Steddie | CW: Eddie's Rough Start in Life, Parental Neglect, Language, S4 Canon | Tags: Good Uncle Wayne Munson, Taking in Eddie, Eddie and Steve Meet as Kids, Haircuts and Swimming Playdates, Fix-It, Happy Ending
Tumblr media
He's so little.
That's the only thought Wayne has, over and over again. He's so goddamn little. With lank, limp hair, all snarled and knotted, matted. Unkempt. Dirty. Dark circles under his sullen eyes. He's small, but at the same time he looks every bit of a hardened fifty-five, at all of seven-years-old.
He didn't look like that the last time Wayne had seen him.
And Wayne is sick that he's deteriorated to this point, in just two years time. At five, he had been a happy, wild boy. All snips, snails and puppy dog tails.
With a loud mouth and big, round cheeks.
Al swore he was fine, that they both were, on the rare occasions when he'd call after losing Betts and Wayne had believed him. Until the social worker was on his front steps, Eddie standing there, head bowed, so utterly serious.
"Do you want me to find someone to try and comb it out, or would you like to shave it and start over?" Wayne asks, and Eddie just shrugs. Still not talking, still buried deep within his shell.
Wayne's not going to decide for him. Thinks it should be his decision, but knows it can't stay like this either, even if he doesn't have it in him to start dragging a comb through it. He knows that'll hurt, and he can't do it to Eddie. Won't.
"When you decide, you let me know," Wayne says, hoping he'll decide sooner rather than later.
It takes three days, but Eddie finally comes up behind Wayne on the couch, and taps him on the shoulder, and makes the motion for shaving his head.
"Okay, I'll get you an appointment," Wayne tells him, because he wants to do this right, and not leave Eddie with the memory of Wayne shaving his head in the kitchen of the trailer. Maybe that's cowardly, but he'd rather push that off on a professional.
Eddie is sitting on the little wooden board the hairdresser placed over the arms of her chair to make him taller, the hydraulic lift hadn't even been enough to get him where she needed him, and he somehow still looks little.
She gently, oh so gently, takes the clippers to Eddie's hair, shaving off strips, as she talks him through each pass. Eddie seems fine with it, there are no tears, but no smiles either.
This was the right call. A beauty shop, not a barber. Wayne's own barber does just fine on his own hair, but wouldn't have been so delicate with Eddie, and right now, Wayne's pretty sure his boy needs a soft touch.
There's another boy in the chair next to Eddie, probably the same age, but he's so much larger, and more animated. Studying every move of her hand as she barely trims anything off his thick head of hair. He doesn't need the booster board, even if Wayne suspects he's younger than Eddie.
"Nanny Louisa, can I get my haircut like that?"
She laughs, "Steve. Your mother would have both of our hides. We all have very strict orders for your haircut and you know it."
"Aw, man, it looks so cool," Steve whines, and if Wayne isn't mistaken, that's Richard Harrington's boy. And if that's true, there's no way he's leaving here with his head shaved, that's for damn sure.
And then, as if it were a miracle, Eddie smiles. It's small, faint, barely there. But it's a goddamn smile, aimed at the other little boy that is watching as Eddie's hair falls down all around his chair and onto the floor.
The Harrington boy doesn't win, and only gets a trim, but Eddie has straightened up on the board. Not nearly as withdrawn as he was when they entered the shop.
Maybe shedding all that damaged hair feels like a new start. Wayne sure hopes so, because they're gonna need all the help they can get.
When he's all brushed off, and the plastic cape removed, the hairdressers each hand Eddie and the Harrington boy a coupon for a free ice cream cone at the shop down on the corner. It's a perk for being good in the chair, and they both earned it today.
Eddie clutches his coupon in his little hands.
"Do you want to save that, or get it now?" Wayne asks, and Eddie looks torn. That isn't the look Wayne wants on his face, so he quickly amends his question, "Or both? You can save your coupon for a rainy day, and we can still get ice cream now," Wayne offers.
"Really?" Eddie says, looking so hopeful, and it's the most beautiful word Wayne's ever heard in his whole life.
"Really," he reassures, "you save it until you want to use it. And I'll buy, today."
"Can we go get ice cream, too, Nanny Louisa?" the Harrington boy asks, and she looks reluctant, but finally nods. She couldn't let him get his head shaved, but ice cream, that's probably a much more doable request.
Wayne sits at the table with Louisa and makes the world's most uncomfortable small talk, as the boys sit at another table together, and jabber back and forth. Well, Steve is doing most of the talking, but Eddie, his sweet Eddie, has said more in the past thirty minutes than he has in the past week, and Wayne doesn't care who has gotten those words out of him, he'll be grateful.
When the cones are gone, both boys appear at the side of the table, "Eddie's coming over tomorrow to swim," Steve announces.
"Oh, is he?" his nanny asks, teasing Steve, and Wayne smiles.
"He is. His uncle will bring him," Steve says with a confidence that things will always go his way in life, and Wayne hopes that rubs off on Eddie, just a little bit.
"I will?" Wayne teases, and Eddie meets his eyes, and Wayne nods. "If it's okay with Miss Louisa, I think that could be arranged."
"I don't know how to swim," Eddie admits on the way home, and Wayne laughs.
"Maybe you shouldn't have made a swimming playdate then, kid," Wayne teases, and Eddie laughs, a small quiet laugh. But it was a laugh. Wayne heard it.
"Yeah," Eddie says, and then he's quiet for a stretch, "could you teach me?"
Wayne isn't so sure that's his area of expertise, but he supposes he could try, "Yeah, I can try."
Knowing Eddie would be far too embarrassed to go to the public pool, Wayne takes Eddie out to the swimming side of Lover's Lake.
Wayne, not sure the last time he's even been in shorts, wades out in the water in his cut-off jeans, surely blinding the boaters a mile out with his white legs, as Eddie walks in beside him.
And Wayne teaches him, always staying within an arm's reach. And Eddie swims. It might not be the fancy strokes that the Harrington boy can surely swim, in his private pool with his private swimming lessons.
But Eddie's doing it, and Wayne feels like maybe, just maybe, he's finally done something right for the kid today.
Eddie's laughing, and splashing, a quick study, and Wayne lets him paddle around for as long as he wants, until the sun threatens to sink beyond the horizon.
Once back on shore, Wayne wraps him up in a towel, just one from the house, and gets him back into the truck.
"I'm starving," Eddie says.
"The downside to going swimming, I'm afraid," Wayne answers, but swings by Benny's Burgers on the way home, getting them both a burger, fries and a milkshake. Ice cream twice in one day is fine, Wayne's pretty sure, since Wayne's celebrating the first good day they've had since Eddie got here.
Anything the kid wants, forever, Wayne will do his best to make happen.
In the morning, Wayne brings Eddie by Melvald's General Store, to let Eddie pick out a beach towel from the rack. Eddie combs through them, so serious as he checks out the options: Star Wars and Barbie and Huckleberry Hound.
"Garfield!" Eddie finally declares, and Wayne supposes that's the one.
"Garfield, great choice," Wayne says, taking the towel to the counter so they can pay for it. So Eddie won't be embarrassed bringing a fraying old towel from home. So he'll have something new, and fun, that he picked out all for himself.
Wayne probably should have washed it first, but he's not that organized, and Eddie'll live. Wayne pulls off the tag and hands it over, and Eddie hugs it to his chest.
Pulling into the circle drive at the Harrington's is weird, to say the least. He's never set foot on the property, and never imagined he ever would. But, Eddie's brought a lot of changes, and if Eddie likes this other little boy, and he's kind, Wayne will be polite and make his boy happy in any way he knows how.
That evening, when he picks Eddie up, he's tired, and a little sunburnt, but rattling off information about his new friend and all their grand plans for the summer vacation.
And as time always goes, that summer flew by too fast, and before Wayne knew it, years had passed. The boys drifted apart as fast as they became friends. As kids do. By high school, Wayne hasn't heard the name Steve Harrington from Eddie's mouth in years.
But that summer, that first summer, Wayne will forever be grateful for him. For Steve Harrington, Garfield beach towels, and more ice cream cones than he could ever begin to count. To swimming, and fishing, and playing in the backyard.
To the little kid that made his boy smile again.
And when Steve Harrington, now grown into a man, shows up on Wayne's doorstep, Eddie's denim vest clutched in his hands, filthy and blood-stained, Wayne lets him inside without a word.
Wayne takes one look at him, and tells him to wait there.
He has to dig, but he finally finds Eddie's piggy bank in a cardboard box that he'd packed from the remnants of the trailer, and pulls out the bottom plug. Change falls out, clattering onto the desk.
But inside, there's a slip of paper. Folded to fit, and dirty from spending so much time hanging out amongst the coins.
Wayne clutches it in his hand, and when he presses it into Steve's palm, trading him for the vest, Steve looks down at it, his eyes wet and red-rimmed.
Wayne starts, "I don't know if you remember-"
"Of course I remember," Steve cuts him off.
"Well, I thought today might be that rainy day."
Steve laughs, and sniffles a little, both at the same time.
"This ice cream shop has been closed for years," Steve says, but he's finally smiling, just a little.
Eddie's not here to do it himself, not here to coax out that smile, so Wayne's repaid the debt for Eddie himself.
"Yeah, well…" Wayne trails off.
"But it is, you know," Steve says, "that rainy day. So, thank you."
And months later, Eddie shows up on Wayne's doorstep again. Dirty, his hair matted, and eyes downcast. Thin, worn to the bone, and as silent and stoic as he had been at seven. Wayne asks no questions. The answers don't matter right now. Instead, he pulls on him, hugging him tight, welcoming him home.
They've done this before, and they can do it again. And Wayne's grateful to have the opportunity. He was so sure he'd never see him again.
Then, after Wayne's gotten Eddie settled, and Eddie is standing in front of the bathroom mirror, combing out his own hair, Wayne excuses himself, heading for the kitchen to call Steve Harrington.
Wayne tells him to bring ice cream.

Love Me Til It Hurts
written for @steddiesongfics
song: Neon Noir by Ville Valo (2023) | rated: E | wc: 1.368 | cw: blood, blood drinking, blood kink (kind of), sexual content | tags: Monster!Eddie Munson, Monster Lover!Steve Harrington, Steve is a Freak, and Eddie loves him for it | also on ao3
Becoming a monster had always sounded kind of… intriguing.
The reality of it, however, sucked big time.
And maybe that’s just due to the circumstances of how it happened. Because nearly being eaten alive by demon bats in a place that resembles more hell than Hawkins (or- now that he thinks about it, maybe it just shows Hawkins’s true face because his hometown kind of always had been hell) and the fact that it fucking hurt to be transformed into the human-monster-abnormality that he is now.
So, yeah. Becoming a monster had been a literal nightmare.
Being one, on the other hand, is even crazier than he’d ever imagined it would be.
Sure, it was scary at first, to suddenly see the world in a different light. Literally. And to suddenly be able to hear sounds he’d never heard before. To smell and taste flavours he never even knew existed. But he soon learned to accept it, made peace with his new self and all the traits that come with it.
Being a monster is kind of fun, to be honest, and to feel superior in a way, to be stronger, taller, more powerful than he could ever have dreamed of being is just a bonus. A little cherry on top. Something that keeps him sane whenever the memories of their final fight against Vecna replay in his mind.
Because now, he’s able to protect his friends. To watch out for them. To make sure they’re safe.
And giving up part of his humanity for that is a prize he’d be willing to pay all over again.
That and the fact that being this new, better version of himself changed his life in ways he never thought would be possible.
He’s been living in the Harrington home ever since they brought him back, with Steve helping him discover and... explore all the changes he’s been going through.
And that had been a wild ride from the start.
Nothing and no one could’ve prepared Eddie for finding out just how much of a freak Steve Harrington would turn out to be.
Because he is. Oh God, he is. Maybe the biggest freak of them all.
Freaky in a way Eddie still has a hard time believing is not just some side effect from being bitten by the same gnarly creatures, or maybe from swallowing that bat’s blood when he ripped it apart with his teeth, looking all rough and grimy and too fucking sexy, bleeding and bare chested and-
Where was he?
Oh, yeah.
Whatever it is, however Eddie got so lucky – he cherishes every moment of it. Because ever since coming back wrong, everything in his life suddenly went right.
🩸🖤🩸
When Steve offered his blood to Eddie for the first time, he nearly lost it because- shit, that was better than any trip. No drug could ever compare to the effect Steve’s blood had on him, finally scratching that itch that had been driving him mad ever since his transformation.
But it didn’t stop there, no. What Eddie initially thought was just one of the endless self-sacrificing acts Steve is known for, turned out to be so much more. Because somehow, Steve found a liking in Eddie’s new form.
It took Eddie a while to figure it out. To understand why Steve suddenly always came so close. Always in his periphery at least, always touching when they were sitting next to each other. Always right there, waiting for Eddie’s next blood rush, too quick to offer his wrist or neck for Eddie to sink his teeth in.
Look, call him stupid or whatever, but how the hell could Eddie have known that fangs and wings would do it for Steve?
And he should have been offended, really, when Steve finally confessed. Because-
    Honestly, Steve? You’re telling me I had to literally die for you to finally notice me?
But let’s be real. Eddie would gladly let himself be turned into a fucking worm if it meant he could have Steve in return.
Yeah, that man’s definitely worth dying for.
If anyone asked him, he’d deny it but Eddie had a crush on Steve long before the world went to shit. But never – not even in his wildest dreams – did he dare to fantasize about a future where he’d know what Steve looks like underneath his stupid polos and illegally tight jeans.
And now he does.
Knows all the parts of him, even the hidden ones. Because Steve is a goddamn monster lover, in every sense of the word.
🩸🖤🩸
The first time Eddie realised Steve’s quiet whimpers were more than just a response to the pain of having the skin of his neck pierced by razor-sharp teeth, was a true revelation. He still remembers how embarrassed Steve had been when Eddie noticed the dark patch at the front of his sweats. He was still visibly half hard and Eddie – lost in the daze of drinking his blood – couldn’t stop staring.
He tried to apologise, tried to tell Steve that it was okay, that is was probably just his body’s reaction to being drained because that shit’s not normal, is it? But Steve just shook his head, took Eddie’s large, clawed hand and placed it right above the wet spot in the front of his pants.
Eddie nearly choked on his own tongue, overcome with a desire to take and claim, to touch Steve where his blood was pulsing hot and hard beneath the damp fabric.
He needed Steve in ways that should’ve scared them both but- did he mention that Steve’s a freak?
Because he didn’t even wait for permission, didn’t stop one second to consider how dangerous this was, or could’ve been, when he crawled into Eddie’s lap like a love-sick dog, whining and whimpering so sweetly against Eddie’s lips as he kissed him, deep and unafraid, uncaring of the bittersweet iron they could both taste when he pricked his greedy tongue on Eddie’s fangs.
It was fucked-up and dirty and so fucking frightening but Eddie couldn’t resist, couldn’t reject the offer when Steve was so ready to give him more than he ever dreamed of.
And it remains a dream, a wonderful fantasy each time it happens. Each time Steve gets this look in his eyes, full of want, full of unhinged desire to be taken apart. To be claimed by his monster, to be fucked and kissed and loved- God, Eddie loves him so much.
He worships him like a king – Eddie’s inferior to no one but Steve – and what he gets in return is more than just a taste of what his new form needs to thrive.
When his humanity takes a backseat while his monster self takes over, and the rioting rush of primal desire is clouding his senses, Steve’s touch is the only thing keeping him grounded. And it’s so much more than just sex. More than just two creatures giving in to their godless impulses to take and be taken.
It’s a beautiful mess very time Eddie leaves a trail of dark red love confessions on Steve’s skin just to kiss them better. And it feels like rebirth every time Steve comes with Eddie’s name on his lips, every time he falls to pieces in Eddie’s arms.
Every time they share each other’s blood and cum and spit, every time they crash and fall, sweat-drenched and breathless, it’s like Eddie is being transformed all over again, bathed in Steve’s light, graced by his lover’s mercy – really letting himself become the monster he is because his boyfriend likes him like that.
His boyfriend Steve, the freak. The one reason for Eddie’s stone-cold heart to keep beating.
Steve Harrington, the monster lover. His beautiful, insatiable boy, always so greedy for more.
   “I love you, Steve,” Eddie whispers as he lets his hand glide over naked, burning skin. Careful this time, not to break any more of it.
   “Love me, Eddie. Love me ‘til it hurts.”
Oh. But how could he not, when Steve demands it like that?
He’ll never get enough of it.
Because, yeah, being a monster is fun. But being Steve’s monster is everything.

“Ohh Gareth is blushing!” “Aww are you talking to your girlfriend again?” “He is in love” his younger sisters are giggling, dancing around Gareth who is currently sitting on the kitchen counter, telephone in hand.
“He just can’t help himself, she is just so pretty!” “And smart” “and talented” with high-pitched voices they are mocking the way their older brother is regularly fawning over you, while overly batting their eyelashes.
“They are growing up so fast!” His oldest sister is dramatically wiping away fake tears.
“You’re literally five years younger than me, what do you mean?”
“Actually I’m only four and a half years younger than you, so you’re wrong!”
Gareth is about to tell her that that is basically the same when he gets distracted by your laugh coming through the phone. “I can’t wait to finally meet your sisters!”
He grins “Ohh so that is the real reason why you finally decided to come and visit me. I can’t believe it, my dearest girlfriend is only dating me because of my siblings.”
“Don’t be silly!” He can hear the grin in your voice “We both know that it’s actually your hair that wooed me, but I guess your personality and you as a person in general are alright as well.”
“Haha very funny. I think you guys meeting will probably be the death of me.”
“What a great way to die.” those are the last words his youngest sister says before she grabs the older one and pulls her out of the room.
Gareth and you met at a concert a few months ago and instantly hit it off. After finding out that you both drove about two hours to the concert, coming from opposite directions, you exchanged numbers and promised each other to at least call every once in a while. Planning to attend the next good concert, that’s somewhat nearby, together.
Well, looking back on it now you might have overdone the whole staying in touch thing a little bit, not that you’re complaining! You and Gareth had great chemistry from the start and easily spent multiple hours talking on the phone every day. Considering that, and the way you both have been quite smiley ever since coming back from the concert, none of your family members were surprised when you announced your relationship.
You both have been itching to meet in person again, which is why you decided that the first longer trip you are gonna make with your first own car that you just got for your eighteenth birthday, is going to be to Hawkins. Gareth was over the moon, hearing this news, having himself begged his mom at least a thousand times to let him borrow her car over the weekend, to make his way over to your city.
“It’s getting late, I think I should head to bed, after all, I have a long drive planned tomorrow.”
It’s Thursday afternoon right now, tomorrow around this time you are gonna be lying in your boyfriend's arms. You already have everything packed and safely stored in your trunk, planning to drive over directly after school in hopes of arriving during the early evening.
“Okay, I’m really looking forward to tomorrow. Please drive safely, good night sweetheart.”
“Good night babes, see you tomorrow.”
He nearly has a heart attack when he hears his sister speaking up next to him “Aww he called her sweetheart, how adorable.” She giggles.
“Shouldn’t you be in bed?”
“Shouldn’t you be taller?”
The next day Gareth is up nearly an hour earlier than normal, being way too excited to even think straight. His giddiness follows him through the day confusing the Hellfire guys immensely. This is not how he normally responded to being at school.
“Okay, what’s up with you?” Eddie is the one to finally break the silence when they are all sitting at their lunch table “You’ve been acting weird all day!”
“Oh my girlfrie-” he is not able to finish his sentence before he gets interrupted by Jeff “Ohhh your totally real girlfriend that coincidentally lives super far away.” The boys laugh “You know we are all single, no need to make up lies to-” one of the other Hellfire boys speaks up just to end up getting interrupted as well. And that by no other than one of the freshmen “Not all of us are single, we’re not!”.
Damn.
“Well,” Gareth, being fed up with his friends not believing that he could possibly be in a relationship, abruptly stands up “Actually, she is visiting this weekend so if you come over you can finally meet my in fact very real girlfriend.” With that he storms out of the cafeteria, leaving his tray behind for the others to clean up.
His angry mood doesn’t stick, but his good mood doesn't return either. Is it really so unlikely for him to have a girlfriend? Is it so unrealistic that a girl could be attracted to him? He always thought that you were out of his league, but before now it never worried him or made him feel insecure. Quite the opposite actually, he was always proud that he was able to score a girl like you.
But what if you remembered him in an idealized kind of way? Would you be disappointed after seeing him in the flesh again? Would it be awkward? What if you decided that he wasn’t what you expected and just broke up with him?
His spiraling was interrupted when his house came into view, with a car parked in front of it, which exactly matched the description you had excitedly given him a few days ago talking about your newest possession. Is he starting to imagine things now? You shouldn’t be arriving until way later in the day.
When he opens the front door he is greeted with the view of you and his mom, giggling and drinking tea at the kitchen table, something suspiciously looking like a photo album lying in front of you. The noise of the closing door notifies both of you of his presence making you simultaneously look up.
“Hi”
He is still frozen at the door. You stand up, cross the room and meet him at the door, embracing him in a hug as soon as he is within reachable distance. Coming back to earth he quickly returns it.
“Hey”
“You’re early.” It comes out more like a statement than a question. His tone made you fear that you crossed a boundary or upset him, slightly pulling back from the hug to look at his face “Yes, is that okay?”
“YES! Sorry! I mean yeah that’s totally cool, I’m just surprised. How did you get here so early?”
You grin sheepishly “I might or might not have skipped school today. But I wouldn't have been able to focus either way because I was way too excited” you reason.
“You’re lucky that it was my day off today or you would be sitting on the porch right now” his mother's amused tone pulled you out of your little daze, finally completely pulling out of the hug “I probably should be concerned about you being a bad influence on my son by skipping school, but it looks like he himself isn’t really taking his attendance that serious either.”
Shit.
“However,” you and Gareth share a slightly anxious look “I'm gonna make an exception and let that slide today, but don't make skipping a habit. We don't want your academics to suffer, right?” Gareth groans, mumbling something about her embarrassing him under his breath.
You on the other side let out a breath you didn't knew you were holding in. You didn’t even think twice about what impression you would leave, when you show up for the first time meeting your boyfriend's mom, proudly proclaiming that you just skipped school.
She grabs her bag and turns to you. “I'm going grocery shopping, anything I should bring honey?” You both simultaneously shake your head. “I wasn't talking to you Gareth, you just skipped school, I may not punish you, but I’m sure as hell aren’t rewarding you either!”
“But she skipped too, why are you asking her then?”
Geez thanks.
“Well SHE is not my child to raise and SHE is also a guest, if you excuse me now, I want to be at the shop before all the good fruits and vegetables are gone.” With that the door closes behind her, resulting in you two being alone now.
“Hi” 'Wow smart thing to say, if she doesn’t already think that you are a total loser she sure does now.'
Instead of laughing at him as he expected, you smile.
“Hi! Wanna show me your room?”
Back at Hawkins High, the Hellfire Club is still sitting at their table.
“Wasn’t that a bit much? He seemed genuinely hurt.” Dustin, always the sweetheart, speaks up. “Yeah, I feel bad now too” agreement follows from the others.
“Do you really think that his girlfriend isn’t real?” Mike asks Eddie
“I mean I was suspicious before, but this kind of sold the deal, right? If he had a girlfriend, why would he react like that?” The others nod at their ‘leaders‘ reasoning.
Dustin decides to speak up again in hopes of making them see the said things from Gareth's perspective “I mean you sort of implied that it's extremely unlikely for a woman to want him”
Eddie looks offended “Come on now, that’s not what I said or meant and you know that.”
“Yeah, I know that, but does Gareth?”
“Okay, you know what, I'm gonna drive over and apologize. Then I'm telling him that it’s no biggy that he lied about having a girlfriend and we will all just forget about it. Yay happy ending, driving into the sunset together with our hair flowing in the wind.”
“Fine man, but Im coming with you,” Jeff says “Not the whole sunset thing, but I think I have to apologize too.” And with that, they both make their way to Eddies van to drive over to Gareths.
Gareth on the other hand has long forgotten about their ‘fight’ at lunch, being a lot more focused on the way his girlfriends' lips feel. He still can’t believe that he finally has you here, in his house, in his room, in his bed. That he can hug, touch and kiss you. He slowly pushes you down, laying part of his body weight on you to get closer, while your hands find their way under his shirt.
Eddie and Jeff have now arrived at their destination, ringing the doorbell a few times.
Nothing.
“He must still be mad, let's get in through the garage, they never lock it.” Eddie proposes.
“There is someone at the door” you break the kiss
“Yeah, I heard.” Gareth only takes a second to respond before instantly chasing your lips again.
“You don’t want to open?”
“Nah, whoever it is is gonna survive, I have more important matters to attend to.” You giggle, making your boyfriend aware of how smitten he is again.
The two boys have successfully entered the house and are now walking up the stairs, Eddie already talking the apology, that he and Jeff came up with on their way here, through in his head, being so deep in thought, he doesn’t even consider knocking before he opens the door, well more like slams the door open.
The first thing he hears is a shriek that sounds suspiciously like it came from a girl. The next sound is clearly Gareths voice.
“What the fuck dude, ever heard of knocking? Get the fuck out!” With that, he is pushed out of the room by a shirtless Gareth. Neither he nor Jeff has a chance to say anything before Gareth is slamming the door in their faces.
“Damn, maybe he wasn’t lying.”
“Good for him, good for him.”

Nancy’s been having…
A week.
She hadn’t expected for her classmates to be murdered, or for Max to be the next victim, hadn’t known she was going to be the given a terrible vision,
Didn’t expect to like Robin.
And not just in the friend way, which the taller had been absolutely giddy when Nancy first referred to her as.
She liked her.
Nancy Wheeler liked her in the way that Lucas likes Max, how Hopper liked Joyce before he died.
This girl- Who she’d only really talked to more than once this week, she liked her.
And of course, they talked a little during the whole star-court situation, but Nancy was…
Snappish, a bit rude.
She’d also been a bit rude when she first saw Steve and Robin.
Nancy had thought it was because it was Steve, he’d changed and maybe she missed him a bit, wished it was her instead of Robin.
It was the other way around though, no matter how much Eddie and Robin insisted about the tension between her and Steve.
And she really wishes they would lay off this whole thing. She’s not interested, and Steve clearly isn’t either!
No, Steves interested in keeping everyone safe, making sure Max has her headphones playing, and making sure Eddie is out of view.
And Nancy,
She should be interested in Jonathan, how he’s doing since they couldn’t get ahold of the Byers before they stole the Winnebago.
But she’s not.
She’s interested in Robin, and the way every-time she moves her head slightly all her hair shimmies. The way she rambles when she’s nervous or stressed. The way she’s been listening to Nancy this entire time, not questioning her, and backing her up while still having her own ideas.
Her freckles, the black polish chipping off her nails.
She doesn’t interrupt her when Nancy’s speaking. When Nancy sat down on the couch in the back of the winnebago she was quick to snag the seat next to her.
And it was so-
Well,
Nancy would be lying if she said her heart didn’t flutter a little every-time Robin leaned into her side, or made sure that she was feeling okay.
Even back when they barely knew each-other, in their sophomore year when Robin ran to check up on her when she started crying in the theater.
Threatening to kick Steve out when she thought he’d done something.
They barely knew each-other, and Robin still went out of her way.
Nancy smiles, glances at the taller girl out of the corner of her eye. She’s humming something that sounds alot like Total Eclipse of The Heart.
And Nancy has the most vivid memory of the marching band playing it at one of Steve’s football games a couple years ago.
The way the group moved in tandem, the sound.
Her eyes were drawn to the brass sections, the way they were loud, but not droning out the other instruments.
“Whatcha thinking about?”
Nancy blinks, and Robins staring at her. “You know, if this is Vecna, I really think you should tell us.” She says.
And she worries, always a tad bit concerned about what’s happening, always a little in-tuned into everything.
“It’s not, just thinking.” Nancy defends, and Robin leans forward, brow quirked. “About what?”
“Uhm, things.”
Smooth Wheeler.
Her light brown hair sways as she leans forward even more, halfway off the couch at this point. “End of the world things, or, like-“ She glances at the front of the car, where Steve is trying the smack Eddie from where he sits behind him whilst also driving.
She looks back. “-Things things.”
“Robin, it’s not like that. Steve and I are just friends.”
Robin tilts back a bit so she’s sitting like a normal person. She holds up her hands. “And I totally get that! What about Jonathan?”
Nancy sighs, “I already told you about Jonathan and I, what about you?”
“Huh?”
“Do you have anyone?”
Robins eyes are wide, and she shuffles away slightly. “I’m, uh, really not comfortable with talking about my non-existent relationships with anyone but Steve.”
“Non-existent?” Nancy brows furrowed. “You’re super pretty though, guys don’t ask you out?” Her eyes widen. “Or, wait, maybe you just don’t wanna get with a guy, or anyone. Gosh, I’m so sorry, you don’t wanna talk about this and I’m pushing-“
“No!”
The vehicle quiets, and heads turn to them. “…Way is Breakfast Club better than Carrie! It’s a work of art.”
They all turn they heads back to what their doing, before Robin hunches her shoulders, and leans her head in a little. “You think that’s okay?” She whispers.
“Not wanting a relationship? Yeah, not everyone needs one.”
“No, no, I mean…” She takes a deep breath. “Not wanting to get with a guy.”
Please don’t go the wrong way please don’t go the wrong way.
“I mean, yeah.”
Robin smiles, nods, and backs up. “Great, excellent, superb even.”
And it’s not sarcastic. Nancy smiles, bumps her shoulder. “Got any cute girls?”
Robin flushes and her freckles disappear for a split second. She stammers and looks around.
Maybe she can enjoy this. Just for a little bit.

(Look away, Loki!)
✒️
I’d like to request a drabble featuring my favorite himbo, Steve Harrington. Where he and reader are trapped together somehow. Perhaps in his Scoops Ahoy era? 😆
Angsty, fluffy, whatever you choose – I know it will be incredible!
it's been so long since i've written for steve so i kind of went a bit ham with this one, my bad :')
also to anyone reading this, if you'd like your own request for steve (or even eddie) hmu i'll probably another one or two requests! :)
LIKE WHEN WE WERE KIDS
PARINGS: Steve Harrington & Gender Neutral Reader
SUMMARY: It's Steve's first day on the job... what could possibly go wrong?
WORD COUNT: 3,878
WARNINGS: Brief mentions of claustrophobia/anxiety. Also unedited so bear with me if you find any mistakes!!
-
It starts on a playground.
Steve Harrington, the boy that lives next door is shooting across the monkey bars. His long, strong arms propelling him forward with ease. Beneath him, his legs dangle like dead weight, showcasing the curve of his calves and how they work in tandem with the rest of him.
“Oh, my god Steve is so hot,” Becky says. The two of you are sitting on the grass a few feet away, suddenly admiring his movement as he skips one of the bars with a triumphant jump.
Scrunching up your face, you watch as he hits the platform and turns to watch his friend follow. “I guess he’s taller than I remember,” you say then, watching the way his hands neatly nestle themselves into the curvature of his hips as he bends forward.
“Obviously. He’s like, the tallest boy in school!”
“Is he?”
You could’ve sworn Andy was. Last year in gym class the two of you had been paired together for dance unit. Both of you looked incredibly awkward standing next to each other as you moved throughout the room, trying your best to accommodate the other’s height.
“He’s also so funny. Janet and I were at the arcade the other day and—“
As Becky drones, it’s hard to imagine Steve Harrington as anything other than tiresome. Having grown up alongside him, it’s more often than not you tend to view him as something entirely different from your peers.
For example, to you, he’s always just been this loud and obnoxious know-it-all rather than cool. Everything he does is done with far too much gusto for that of a fifteen-year-old boy and it’s annoying. Infuriating even because as a fellow teen going through puberty, he shouldn’t be allowed to have that much confidence. Like you, he should be weird and anxious —not hip and hot and tall, apparently.
It’s not fair, you think, trying your best to tune back into your best friend’s words. Somehow she’s still going, her voice excitedly shrill as she relays some stupid joke Steve told her while he was showing her how to play Space Invaders. Apparently, it was really funny —you can tell by the way Becky’s whole face lights up as she tells you, her hand moving to grip your arm in excitement once she tells you the punchline. Awkwardly, you laugh and nod your head in agreeance, hoping that she doesn’t catch your lack of attention span as you glance over at Steve.
He’s on the monkey bars again, positioning himself so that he’s facing you and your friend. As per usual, he’s grinning up a storm, watching the way all the girls at the park ogle him as he pulls himself onto the top.
Becky, who practically squeals at the sight, watches the way he sits on the edge with wide eyes. Once again, she makes some comments about his appearance. Something about his hair looking extra fluffy or whatever.
Same as before, you merely nod your way through the conversation, listening to the way her voice fluctuates in between topics as you continue to stare at him and the way the bottom of his shirt starts riding up, exposing the bottom half of his stomach.
Immediately, it makes you uncomfortable, your own stomach churning in a way that has you readjusting in the grass to accommodate the sudden upset. Slowly, you pull your knees up to your chest and hug your shins, noticing how much tanner his skin has gotten since he’s come back from summer camp.
It looks nice. Warm and soft and—
Years later, you now realize that’s when your crush on Steve Harrington started. At the playground in the summer before sophomore year of high school. Embarrassing, right?
To this day Becky still hasn’t let you live it down, despite her own past infatuations. Day in and day out, she teases you any chance she gets even now that you’re all graduated and getting ready to move on with your lives.
“I bet you and Harrington would make beautiful babies,” she always says, grinning that evil little grin she knows you hate. It makes you want to smother her in her sleep. But considering her companionship is more important, you reluctantly don’t. Instead, you just grin and bear it, hoping one day soon she’ll just forget that you and he ever existed on the same wavelength, even though you know that’ll never happen, considering Steve Harrington is still your neighbour.
And as of today, your coworker.
You’re not sure if it’s the universe slapping you in the face or what but either way when you walk into work and see him standing there, donning the mandatory Scoops Ahoy uniform you feel like you’re about to faint.
“Ahoy there sail— shit.”
“Shit.”
Immediately, your other coworker Robin looks between you with interest, her eyes narrowing at the uncomfortable stand-off.
“Since when do you work here, neighbour?” Steve attempting to break the ice, watches in confusion as you roll your eyes and brush past, making your way to the backroom.
You need time to process. To grieve what could’ve been your first summer without Steve Harrington. To come up with a game plan of sorts so that you don’t go crazy these next couple of weeks.
“Neighbours, huh?” Robin grins and follows closely behind you, making you feel suddenly claustrophobic. Panicked in a way that has your chest tightening at the remembrance of why you took this job in the first place.
You wanted to escape the yearly summer trip your and Steve’s parents planned every year.
Not many people at school knew this but your families were practically inseparable. Having been brought up together, they still clung to each other like leeches. Everything they did often held an extended invitation to the other, prompting a lot of hang out’s between you and the Harrington’s.
Inhaling deeply, you walk over to your locker and spin the dial of the lock, ignoring the way Robin and Steve begin to talk behind your back; both of them (in a volume you’re not entirely sure you’re supposed to hear) discussing the details of your relationship and how the two of you have known each other since you were preschoolers.
It makes you quietly groan as you pull open the lock and begin to shove your bag inside, prompting both of them to change the subject.
“So, uh, I told Kevin that I could only do a half day today,” Robin says, flashing you her most apologetic smile once you turn around in shock.
“Seriously?”
Steve looks between the two of you, pressing his lips together in a way that makes him look guilty. As if somehow this was his plan all along.
“I have that thing with my parents, remember?”
You don’t remember but Robin’s never been the type to lie so you merely just sigh and close your locker, accepting your fate with reluctant arms as you fully turn to face them. “I assume that means we’re both training today then?”
Robin offers another meek smile.
Great, you think. Just perfect. As if the universe wasn’t punishing you enough by giving you arguably the worst mall jobs in the world. Now on top of that, you had to work with him, the one person you took this job to avoid.
A part of you wants to quit on the spot —to tell Steve that he sucks before grabbing your things and storming out of there. It’d be exhilarating for sure, but then you quickly remember school and the tuition waiting in the wings to be paid.
So ultimately, you don’t quit. In fact, you don’t even fuss as you go about your day, letting Robin take the reins during the first half, avoiding Steve as much as possible in favour of focusing on customers to provide the best possible service.
And for a while, it works. Thanks to the constant streamline of people and Robin’s ability to distract Steve when needed makes the day fly by with ease, pushing you into the last, dreaded half.
The clock hits quarter to one when Robin finally hands him over, giving you a look that screams I’m sorry please don’t hate me.
In response you dramatically frown behind Steve’s back, watching as Robin snorts and shakes her head. “Alright Harrington, let’s go to the freezer before Rob leaves.”
You motion to the backroom and make a beeline for the freezer, motioning for Steve to prop open the door once you arrive. “So I don’t know if Robin told you but around this time we usually do restocks,” you tell him. “Obviously the exact time fluctuates but it’s usually around noon cause people are too busy getting actual lunch.”
“Makes sense.” He nods.
“Yeah, so basically what we’re gonna do is pull what we’re low on. I saw you and Robin going over that already so we can just grab whatever it is you guys figured was needed and then we’ll bring it up front, FIFO the case and eventually write down what we took from the back on this clipboard.”
As you tap the clipboard hanging on the wall beside you, Steve steps forward to take a look, sending you into a panic as soon as you see the door closing behind him.
Somehow, you forgot to mention that the door is broken. A thought that crosses your mind as you haphazardly blurt out a bunch of panicked sounds while simultaneously trying to reach around him to grab it.
Steve, who has no idea what’s happening, looks at you as if you’ve just sprouted a second head and tries to dive out of the way. Except instead of that he merely miscalculates and moves directly in front of you, causing your face to ram into his shoulder.
Groaning at the impact you pull away and palm the sockets of your eyes because, of course, this would happen. Of course, out of everyone in the fucking universe it’d be you and Steve destined to get locked in a freezer on your first day of working together! Of course, of course, of course!
“What the hell was that?” He looks at you with discomfort, his eyes full of judgement as he watches your continued silent frustration unfold. His arms are crossed tightly over his chest as grabs the aforementioned clipboard and begins to take a look.
“The door is broken, you idiot,” you tell him, even though you know it’s not his fault. It’s yours but you’re too angry to deal with that right now.
“What do you mean broken?”
“I don’t know, broken? It’s just, it’s —it won’t open from the inside!”
“What do you mean it doesn’t open from the inside?” Suddenly panicked, Steve puts the clipboard back and turns to the door handle, giving it a few good yanks before looking at you. “Why the hell didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I was too busy training!”
“Well shouldn’t that be apart of the training tour? Y’know like, here we have register, here’s the case and the backroom and the freezer —oh just so you know the door doesn’t work so don’t accidentally lock yourself in because if you do you might turn into a god damn human popsicle!”
You can feel that familiar tension rising like a fog, covering you in a cloud of ignorance as you flash an angry look in his direction. Somehow it’s always your fault. No matter the topic of argument, between you and Steve, you’re always the one to blame. It’s been that way since you were kids and to this day you still resent him for it. For making you the bad guy in every situation. It’s why you’ve always hated his presence, despite the attraction. Just the sight of him often makes you feel like less of a person. Like, regardless of your accomplishments, you’ll forever be beneath him because, at the end of the day, you’re not cool enough.
It sends you into a rage just thinking about it. And has continued to ever since that summer before sophomore year when you started looking at him as something other than the boy you grew up with. Suddenly, it was like a switch had flipped in your mind, telling you that maybe he wasn’t all that bad —that maybe you and he could be more than just neighbours.
Nowadays though, you know that that feeling is just the result of the chemicals circulating through your brain. An overload of dopamine and norepinephrine hitting you like a bus. Back then, puberty had fucked you up and now here you were, standing alongside Harrington in a small, cold room for god knows how long.
Suddenly, Steve bashes his fists against the door and screams Robin’s name. His voice is strained —loud and desperate and despite wanting to make fun of him for the way it cracks you merely follow suit and join in, throwing your hands against the cold sheet metal.
“There’s no way she’s already gone, right?”
Your shrug your shoulders, knowing it’s possible.
“I swear to god if she’s gone I’m—“
“What? You’re gonna kick her ass?”
Steve looks at you, annoyed. “No, I’m not gonna kick her ass. What do you take me for? A psycho?”
“Not a psycho per se.”
“Oh, not a psycho okay. Then what?”
He’s pissed off now. You can tell by that familiar frustration lacing itself between his features. Almost instantly his brows pinch toward the centre of his face, meeting the bridge of his nose that simultaneously crinkles upwards. On his hips, his hands settle into that usual position he holds whenever he’s ready to pick a fight; his fingers tightening around the flesh that sits above the waistband of his shorts.
“Hey Steve, for once could you just like, maybe not look at me like that?”
“Like what?”
“Like you’re about to antagonize me like you always do.”
He lets out a scoff. “I don’t do that.”
“Yes, you do.”
“Name one time I’ve antagonized you.”
You stop for a moment to think of a good answer; a bunch of options rising to the surface of your mind. “Last summer at the cabin. I brought Becky with me and she brought those beers and instead of just letting us have fun you yelled at me for like twenty minutes before telling my mom.”
“Yeah, well, you shouldn’t be drinking.”
“Seriously? I shouldn’t be drinking?”
“Yeah, you’re underage who knows how it’ll effect you!”
“Steve, are you serious? We’re the exact same fucking age!”
“Actually, pretty sure I’m older than you by like, three or four months?”
You want to wring his neck. Take your two already shaking hands and wrap them around his stupid throat until there’s nothing left inside. It’d be easy, right? Sure, you’re shorter than him and probably a bit weaker but people are known to act faster when put into fight or flight. One quick lunge and you could end him in a matter of minutes.
“Besides, you and I both know the only reason I did that is because Becky is a bad influence!”
You raise your brow and refrain from killing him (for now), looking at him confused.
“She’s got all the bases already covered if you know what I’m saying. Every party I see her at she’s always necking with some guy she’s just met. Not to mention the fact I saw her purchasing some dope from Munson last weekend. She’s bad news.”
“Bad news? What are you my dad?”
“No but—“
“Then why do you care? It’s not like you’re any different Mr. Horny Harrington!”
“Horny Harrington?” Suddenly, Steve looks at you in horror. “Jesus christ, is that what you call me behind my back?”
You don’t, usually, but you refuse to tell him that. Instead, nodding your head triumphantly as you watch his previously aggressive stance sort of dwindle into nothing, his hands rising to slide across the expanse of his face in defeat.
“Never mind, I’m just… I’m gonna ignore you now and try and get us out of here.”
Immediately, a part of you is thankful for him changing the subject. The last thing you want to do is continue to fight, especially now that you’re once again aware of the circumstances. Which is that you’re still trapped inside the freezer, arguing in a space that isn’t as comforting as it usually is.
Upon remembering your chest instantly begins to tighten, your breathing pattern becoming erratic as you glance around the room before you, remembering how small it is. Now forced together, you and Steve have probably around six by eight feet of movement amongst you which you’re sure is a lot but because of how cold it is it just makes you feel numb.
Because of this you sort of just freeze while he works, watching as he fiddles with the handle.
“There’s gotta a be a way to fix it,” he says under his breath, his fingers wedging themselves into the base to brush against the exposed mechanisms.
“We’ve been trying to fix it on our own for like a month now,” you tell him, noticing the air of meticulousness that surrounds him.
Embarrassingly, it’s kind of attractive. Something about positively seeing his stubborn personality makes you feel that familiar warmth bloom across your torso. Your eyes, once used to survey the lack of space in the room quickly dart towards his face, noticing the way his tongue sort of pokes out the side of his mouth in deep concentration.
“Do you think you could hold this open for me?”
Without hesitation, you do as he says. Something you’re sure he’s thankful for based on the heavy breath that comes from his nose.
“What are you doing?”
“I think there’s a spring stuck,” he says.
More than anything you want him to be right so you continue to leave him be, waiting in the wings with bated breath while trying not to stare.
Not that it’s easy though. Not when you’re so close and freezing and obviously full of foreign feelings like that summer at the playground.
All of a sudden it feels like a mixture of old and new emotions. All of them swirling through your system like a hurricane ready to strike. Consistently, your breath moves in and out of pace, your chest hurting from the lack of stability.
You hope he doesn’t notice. Because Steve, despite everything has always noticed you. At your best and your worst, he’s always been able to pick you apart with just the glance of his eye. It’s another one of the reasons you always avoid him. You fear he’ll see what you’ve been hiding all these years. What you planned on hiding and hopefully getting over before you left for college.
Well, at least until he decided to ruin that by taking a job you’re absolutely positive he knew you already had. A new level of annoyance you weren’t aware he was capable of.
“Hey, can I ask you something?”
“Hm?”
“You knew I worked here,” you point out, suddenly curious because it doesn’t make sense. Sure, since the beginning of time, he’s been on your ass one way or another, whether it’s selling you out to your parents or making fun of you at school for little mishaps. The torment never seems to end but why continue it? Why now that you’re officially about to go your separate ways is he still trying?
“That’s not a ques—“
You let out an angry breath before rephrasing. “Why did you take the job when you knew I worked here?”
There’s silence for a minute. An unbearable lack of sound other than the overhead fan and the clicking of his fingers against the metal. It’s awful, you think, your lack of patience quickly eating you from the inside out as you watch his eyes begin to narrow and his tongue pokes out again, completely forgetting your question.
“Steve, can you please j—“
  Before you can finish the door jerks forward, making both of you stop. Somehow he’s managed to do it. The impossible task you and Robin and the rest of the part-timers have been attempting for weeks.
At first, you’re happy —excited even. Your face breaks out into a large grin as both you and Steve shuffle into the back room, rubbing your arms to get a better flow of heat. But then you remember your words —your question and the still unexplained answer you continue to wait for as your moment of celebration quickly starts to end.
“Shit, we should probably—“
“I took the job so I could hang out with you.”
What?
Time, regardless of everything, stops in an instant. Your body, still frozen from the chilled air, makes it hard for you to move even the slightest of muscles as you watch him look to the roof and sigh.
“I can’t believe I’m about to say this. I swear to god,” he mumbles, shaking his head —still averting his gaze as his neck cranes back to its previous position. “I just… I know I can be dick sometimes.”
“Most of the time.”
“Yeah, sure, most of the time. Believe me, I know. I sucked in high school. I treated people like shit and because you were always like, there, you were the one that got it the worst.”
His apology feels surprisingly genuine. His voice is quiet and slow unlike it usually is and every word feels purposeful, like he’s rehearsed it before but has suddenly forgotten his lines.
“It sounds stupid but I took this job thinking that if we hung out more maybe I could apologize and it’d like, actually mean something?”
You’re not quite sure you follow so you continue listening.
“Like, maybe if we hung out you’d actually like me again. Like when we were kids.”
Like when we were kids.
God that seems like forever ago. A whole other lifetime. Honestly, it’s been ages since the two of you could sit in the same room together and enjoy a normal conversation. A moment of peace undisturbed by each other’s thoughts and feelings.
It reminds you of how easy it was when you were kids. How, even though he was loud and boisterous and such a frustratingly competitive child, at the end of the day, you still managed to love him. To care for him when things were hard. To set aside your frustrations after a hard day to hear him out when he needed it.
You’d like to say you’re unaware of when all that changed. To be as ignorant as you normally are and turn a blind eye. But deep down you know exactly when it started —why it started.
You’re the reason he feels the way he does and as you stare at the side of his face, wishing he would look at you, you know it’s all your fault.
“Anyway, uh, we should probably go man the ship or whatever…”
You open your mouth to protest —to argue in an attempt to get him to stay— but nothing comes out. No feelings or thoughts or counterpoints rise to the surface as you watch him awkwardly scurries out the door without another word.

There seems to be this forbidden rule in the crowded halls of Hawkins High that runs till this day. It’s funny, truly, how the concepts behind cliques have such a serious hold over your fellow senior classmates. The idea that cliques can’t mix, can’t intermingle, or — hell — can’t even fucking look at each other because a glance meant absolutely everything drives you crazy.
Especially when you liked breaking the rules.
Especially when you liked looking at him.
Him with his shaggy hair, those big doe-eyes with that familiar sparkle of mischief that always had you smiling behind your locker whenever he’d saunter by, him with his obvious double takes of boyish desire in the cafeteria whenever you’d walk past in that tiny little skirt to go sit with the cheer squad as if you didn’t know each other at all, him and the way he stares at you after school, crossing his arms across his chest while he leans up against his van and counts the minutes till he can touch you.
Those eyes were always only for you. Always you. Always him. And yet, always behind closed doors, out of sight, forever in your mind, because the connection between an innocent cheerleader and the mirthful leader of the freakish Hellfire Club would be deemed the semester’s next controversial topic aside from that recurring rumor that Chrissy Cunningham does cocaine in the girls’ bathroom.
Not true, by the way. It’s definitely weed.
The twenty-year old senior has a reputation far different from yours, an accumulation of all the negative remarks people seem to implode upon him for his extreme love of D&D, overachieving rock band and his late highschool graduation.
Although, if someone were to accuse you of having sex with Eddie Munson on a regular basis? You’d be totally screwed. Surely, something with a lack of seriousness couldn’t be so problematic? Sex with no feelings. One-hundred percent, to the core, consensual sex, filthy and forward with zero emotions implied.
A fling, who you’d let tear you apart anytime and any day.
A fling that leaves you not just weak in the knees but… fuck. That’s all it is: a fling. Right?
So when Eddie shows up at your bedroom window with autumn-colored leaves in his hair and a shit-eating grin, the palpitations in your achy heart tell you otherwise. You don’t exchange many words, moreso just usher him inside and gently shut the latch behind him as if your entire manic spiel of avoiding each other’s houses hadn’t mattered at all anymore.
At this point, nothing matters. Except him. He always does. Especially now, when he’s hauling himself off of that little bench by your windowsill and nearly face-planting into the carpet with how he ungracefully maneuvers his taller frame into your arms for the millionth time this week. You’re careful not to make too much sound, giggling like children as Eddie’s boots thump against your flooring.
“Sorry. Sorry.” Eddie whispers with twitchy lips, scratching the nape of his neck bashfully as he adjusts to the midnight darkness of your small bedroom. “I know I’m late, but I had this really, really important campaign earlier and those shitheads Dustin and Mike needed a ride home, so I didn’t want to just leave them hanging which is why…”
You interrupt him with an overdue kiss to the lips, caressing his flushed cheeks as his outgoing hand gestures come to a halt and instinctively make their way down your soft sides. You slowly ease your tongue into his mouth, his large palm splaying over your jaw as he draws you closer to him.
“Well, hello to you too, sweetheart.” Eddie quips playfully.
You pull away shyly, wiping the smeared gloss from your mouth with the back of your wrist. “Sorry. Artificial strawberry.”
He hums in approval, smacking his lips together. “Tastes sweet. You know, actually reminds me of something…”
“Oookay, you can stop right there.”
“I was gonna say your…”
You glare at him, “Eddie.”
“Fine.” He rubs your chin with his thumb and pointer finger, remnants of a chuckle falling upon his features as the moonlight dances through your curtains. “Y’know, your lips are always so soft, so… fucking delicate — how do you do that? Jesus Christ, you smell really — fuck, you smell really good right now.”
You twirl one of his unruly curls around your digit, batting your lashes up at him as you pout with feigned innocence. “All fresh and clean from a shower.”
Eddie’s brows shoot upwards in amusement at your suggestion, “I can change that.”
“Really?” You gnaw on the inside of your mouth, feeling his hand dip lower and lower on your back as you instinctively arch into him. “Why? Feeling filthy?”
He holds your cheek, palm spreading across your blemished skin as he stares into your eyes. “Everytime I’m with you, all I am is filthy.” His lips twitch humorously. “You turn me into an absolute horndog, what can I say? Short skirts, knee-high socks, and you know I go a little crazy for those black converse.”
“Converse turns you on?” You snicker, nearly yelping aloud when the backs of your knees finally hit the edge of your king-sized bed and you catch yourself against the springy mattress.
You look up to Eddie, jaw falling open as he thumbs at your bottom lip. His tall shadow is far from menacing, but surely intimidating as he smiles toothily down at your frame. “You’re so silly, converse doesn’t turn me on. But, hey, you know what does, though?” He sighs out through his nostrils, using his other hand to card through your scalp and tilt your head back. “Mmm, look at me.”
“I am.” You gulp loudly.
“Look harder, Y/N.” You want him to swallow you whole. Right there, with that look, the intensity of his gaze and the dominant stature of his skilled hands molding and melting into your body. “You know what turns me on? The thought of having fucked you in nothing but those converse, back in my van, just a few days ago. You must remember, hm?”
You clench your thighs together at the recollection.
“I remember, alright.” You hold his stare, feeling his thumb dip a bit further into your mouth. “Came home smelling like sex and weed. My cheer uniform… all sticky and gross.”
“And you liked it… because the next day, you still smelled like my van. Meaning…” Eddie hooks his finger against the corner of your lip, before pulling away and putting the glistening digit against his own tongue. “You slept without washing me off you, little lady.” He hums in approval when you shut your eyes. “Hawkins’ perfect angel of a cheerleader, such a good fucking girl that surely no one in this small town would suspect that she’s actually just a slut for my cock…”
You whimper, tucking your chin to your chest as a rush of heat pulses through your cunt. “F-Fucking hell…”
“With the mouth of an actual sailor, by the way.” He shrugs almost dorkily, “But, god, do I love that mouth.” His hand slips to the nape of your neck, fingers gripping the soft skin before he starts to breathe heavily and blink rapidly. “Shit, can I kiss you?”
You don’t even answer, just nod and awkwardly rise from the bed to meet Eddie’s lips halfway — your knees are buckling beneath you from the weight of him against you, his plump lips velvety and familiar as his tongue explores your wet mouth.
You try to be more resigned, knowing that flaunting your neediness would only stroke Eddie’s already-growing ego. But your older classmate has learned to see right through whatever facade you use to convince yourself that you’re immune to him.
This current dynamic is different from when you first slept together.
You’ve grown bolder, he’s taken note of that. Especially in public, you like to stare. A minute turns into two, two turns into a couple glances that are too shit to be even called subtle, and glances turn into objectifying stares at his hands or rings, his lap, and sometimes even the ink on his arms.
Eddie gets off on it more than he should.
He finds pleasure in breaking your little good-girl cheerleader act, knowing that his unholy influence is seeping right through the cracks of your misleading halo.
But you’ve also grown tender to one another. Eddie knows there’s still that awful rift between your differing sides of highschool, but sometimes your company means more than just sex to him. He feels… wanted, seen, sure of himself, because a pretty woman like you probably wouldn’t hang out with anyone like him if he wasn’t someone of good substance.
And maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t only sex. Because on the afternoons you’d sit in his van, he sometimes wouldn’t even think about what was underneath that cheer uniform. Fuck the uniform, he could listen to you and your animated self talk for ages, watching how your bright smile spreads across your cheeks and your kind eyes light up with enthusiasm as you tell him about your day.
He knows he’s screwing himself over for the long run.
“I’m still sore, just so you know.” You whisper brokenly against his lips, clutching a fistful of his leather jacket. “I had to skip last practice because I really couldn’t walk straight.”
Eddie moans wantonly at the confession, covering up his whiny tone with a stifled cough. “Oh, that’s a shame.”
“It really is.”
“Let’s make it happen again, then.” He grins, winking at you before he’s settling you down onto the bed. He rests on his knees between your spread legs, chin jutted out as he studies how your arms lay out over your pretty head. “Fuck, you’re so cute like this.”
You scoff, glad that the darkness can mask your flustered expression. “M’not doing anything.”
Eddie tosses his jacket to the side, baring a plain white tee. “No, you aren’t. It’s just adorable seeing how all innocent and put-together you look right before I fuck you.”
You gasp when he roughly tugs you closer to him by the slope of your calf, hooking your leg over his shoulder and pervertedly watching the way your shorts ride up your thigh from the new angle.
“Take a picture,” You breathe out, moaning quietly as Eddie kisses along your exposed skin and brushes his mouth against your ankle. “It’ll last longer.”
“I have enough pictures back at home.” He smirks devilishly with a shrug, and you can’t help but laugh knowing that he’s absolutely right. Shoebox of polaroids and other things hidden under his bed. Classic move. “None of them are as good as the real deal right here, sweetheart.”
Eddie sets your leg down from his shoulder, gently skimming his hand over the faint lovebites across your thigh before he’s helping you out of your oversized shirt and shorts. Both look two sizes too big on you, but either way, he still finds it sexy. His palms hover over the naked swell of your breasts, fingertips barely running across your hard nipples as the cool air of your bedroom hits your chest.
Your apparent lack of bra is coupled with a pair of lacy boyshort panties, a little ripped by the waistband, but Eddie honestly doesn’t care (he can do a lot more damage than some wear and tear). He admires how it hugs your hips perfectly, cheeky from the back and nearly teases him with how it drapes over your ass before the cloth disappears between your luscious thighs.
“Touch me.” You pout, tucking his hair behind his ear.
He grins. “So eager, let me take you in. Don’t rush it.”
“Mmm, okay. Whatever you say, dungeon master.” A giggle escapes your throat, sweet and innocent, and not at all mischievous. His nostrils flare, eyes dilating into the darkest shade of brown you’ve ever seen him sport. “Does… that turn…? Oh, my god, it does!”
He pushes your shoulder playfully, sneaking a glance at the way your breasts jiggle from the movement. “Shut up.”
“Okay, I thought it was a joke.”
Eddie winces. “You’re kinkshaming right now, you know that?”
You bite back your widening smile, and take it upon yourself to hook your arms behind his neck as you clamber onto his lap. “I think it’s kinda hot.”
“You’re a horrible liar, Y/N.”
“Oh, please fuck me, dungeon master.” You draw a laugh out of Eddie, stroking his flushed cheeks as he finally finds the courage to lock eyes with you again. “Show me who’s boss. Come on.”
Eddie hisses when you grind yourself against his denim-clad thigh, suddenly a reminder of his aching hard-on. “You’re a fucking whore.”
“Okay, now you’re just telling me qualities about myself that I already know.” You nudge your nose against his, entranced by the image of his tongue darting out to wet his lips. “So? Are you gonna fuck me like the whore you think I am?”
Eddie’s hands squeeze the fleshiness of your ass, rings cold against your bottom before a hot sting starts to crawl over your skin.
He spanked you, and you’re certain that his ornate jewelry has left an angry mark that’ll appear in the morning.
“No need for me to think when I already know.” He whispers, before he’s pulling his shirt over his wild head of hair and flinging the ball of fabric at you. You catch it before it can hit you in the face, tossing it back at Eddie with a giggly hmph! that makes both of you lose your balance.
The sudden motion combined with your bodies at the edge of the bed sends you tumbling onto the carpet, limbs hitting the floor with a foreshadowing of bruises. You both wince at the loud thud that echoes throughout the house, and Eddie’s thankful that your family is full of deep sleepers — a theory that he hates to say has been tested out before.
“Are you okay?” He laughs, propping himself up on a pale elbow as he cups a hand over his twitchy mouth. You both erupt into hearty chuckles, muffling your amusement behind your forearm.
You groan, rubbing your boob. “Peachy.”
“Mmm, I’m sorry. Listen, I can make it better.” Eddie crawls over to you, spreading your thighs apart with an expert knee as he hovers over you. “I know a couple tricks.”
“If you’re that horny, you could’ve just told me.” He watches the careful rise and fall of your breasts, taking in the suppleness of your abdomen and the slight arch in your back against the floorboards.
He bends over you, slowly mouthing at the space above your navel before his large hands travel up your stomach and knead at your tits. Your mouth falls open, nothing but the ghost of a moan leaving your throat as Eddie pinches your nipples and runs his tongue up your middle. The hot muscle immediately finds one of your breasts, taking the pebbled skin between his lips before he tends to your other hardened nipple.
You card a shaky hand through his curls, taking a gentle handful and guiding his head to that sweet spot beneath your jaw. “Fuck, you’re pretty.” Eddie whispers, pecking the underside of your chin before he’s trailing his lips over that vein in your neck. “Can I tell you something?” You hum, lashes fluttering against your cheek as Eddie nips at your earlobe with a knowing grin. “I’m so fucking horny, I just wanna take you from behind on this floor. Is that what you wanted to hear from me, Y/N? God, is that alright? Me eating you out right here, me fucking your mouth till you’re just drooling, then me cumming inside your little pussy? Is that okay with you, sweet girl?”
You squirm beneath him, pleading with your eyes as he pins your wrists over your head. “Y-Yes, Eddie. I… fuck, yes. Please.” His teeth make contact with your neck, a tiny pinch drawing a needy groan out of you before his tongue swipes across your pulse point and soothes the bite mark he’s left. “Wanna feel good.”
Eddie kneels back and sighs out desperately, puffing his hair away from his face as he guides your hand and runs it over his torso. You bite your lip as goosebumps form under your compelling touch, his faint abs flexing against your palm as you skim over his happy trail and make straight for the tattoo near his collarbone.
“You can be quiet for me, can’t you?” He inquires, his voice dripping with desire. You nod instantly, and Eddie almost laughs at how quickly your head bobs in agreement. “That’s a good girl. Help me out of this, yeah? Can’t let me stay here and do all the work.” He gestures at his heavy belt buckle and distressed jeans, smiling cattily as your fingers eagerly run his belt out of the loops and pop the button of his pants. “Fuck, feel how hard I am.”
You sit up and press your hand against the thick outline of his clothed cock, mewling at the feeling as Eddie’s eyes light up with an immediate burst of ego.
“Don’t let it get to your head, Munson.”
“Honestly? It’s all going straight to my dick.” He huffs, throwing his head back as you kiss him through his boxers. The tone of his voice changes instantly once you start to palm him, lips massaging the tip of his leaking prick through the fabric, “Shit, fuck, o-okay… you know what, I’ve been edging myself this entire day, and I really don’t wanna get walked in on so if you could… just… hell, if I could fuck your throat like right now… please, I’m dying to be inside you.”
“God, you really are horny tonight.” You laugh teasingly, pulling the waistband of his boxers past his hips. “What’s gotten into you, rockstar? Is it the whole dungeon master thing?”
“Oh, my god. You need to shut the fuck up.” He hisses playfully, scooting forward until his hard cock is aligned with your parting mouth. “Getting off on my embarrassment is so not funny, Y/N.”
He doesn’t hesitate to shove the reddened tip right between your lips, and you immediately salivate at the weight of him on your tongue. Waiting has never been Eddie’s strong suit, always too eager, and you seem to take it as impatience when really, he’s yearning to be as close to you as possible.
“Mmm… E-Eddie!” You whimper around him, using your fist to fuck the base of his cock while you suckle on his aching head.
He inhales deeply, placing his hand on the back of your head. “Look at you, baby. C’mon, suck me off. You know exactly how to do it. Had to teach you in the library bathroom that one time, didn’t I?” His hips instinctively buck up into you, pushing his length further into your mouth. The tip of your nose is pressed up against the groomed tuft of dark curls by his lower abdomen, inhaling the scent of his manhood as Eddie guides your head up and down his dick. “Fuck, and you were such a f-fast learner, too. Weren’t you? Can I go a bit harder, sweetheart?”
Your face scrunches up into pleasure when Eddie’s hand dips between your thighs, cold rings skimming over the damp crotch of your panties before you’re widening your legs and opening your jaw even more for him.
He tightens his hold on the back of your head, fingers stroking your scalp as he keeps you in place and his hips rhythmically meet your mouth. Saliva starts to roll down your chin, a trail of wetness making its way past your flexing neck as Eddie fucks your warm throat.
“Damn it, Y/N, you’re taking it so well. You love it when I fuck your throat like this? Filthy thing, tsk tsk. What would your little cheer team say? Their favorite member… s-shit, getting her throat fucked by an awful boy like me in her own bedroom. You gonna tell ‘em how much you enjoy getting corrupted by me?”
You scratch at his inked thighs, clasping a hand over the backside of his knee to draw him nearer. His jeans hang haphazardly low on his hips, the front slick from the spit dripping off your knuckles and the mess that spills over the corners of your lips.
Eddie finds pleasure in your humiliation, in fact, it’s what keeps his cock begging for more.
So, when you quickly pull away from him and blink away the tears from your sparkling eyes to utter your next words, he’s practically begging for sweet release.
“Want you to be rougher with me tonight. Please, Eds.”
“How rough?” His brow quirks upwards, a taunting smirk tugging at his mouth. “Like… fuck you till you can’t walk kind-of-rough? Slap you in the face? Spank you till your gorgeous ass is just… covered in — fuck — bruises?“ He drags the tip of his prick along your cheek, moaning at how your eyes flutter shut at the feeling and a shaky sigh leaves your body. “Choke you till your neck is covered with the outline of my rings? What, so you can show up to school tomorrow and flaunt it for everyone to gawk at like the fucking dumbasses they are? Can’t figure out who’s been railing the pretty cheerleader, can’t they?”
You whine at his loaded words, avoiding eye contact when his fingers find the underside of your loose jaw. His touch is a stark contrast to the tone of his voice. “Need you so bad.”
Eddie begs to differ. He needs you more. Needs to be buried inside you and never leave, just an endless night of wild, uncoordinated sex like horny rabbits — so believe him when he says he needs this more.
“Where do you want me?”
A pout forms on your lips as you intertwine your hand with his and drag it towards your mound. “Here.”
Eddie coos, splaying a hand over your stomach. “Lay back then, baby. I’ll go easy. Promise.” You send him an unconvinced look, watching as he finds solace in the space between your thighs and flops onto his stomach. “What’s up with that face?”
You roll your eyes, gesturing at him as he hooks his ringed thumbs over your boyshorts and pulls. “And by easy you mean… make me cum on your tongue like fifty gazillion times till I’m begging for mercy.”
He pauses in contemplation, before letting out a sound of agreement and pursing his lips. “Sounds ‘bout right. You never seem to really complain though.” You swear your vision blurs when Eddie flattens his digit along your folds, teasing your poor hole with gentle swirls. “My sweet Y/N, it seems that you’re already soaking wet.”
“I can’t help it. Rings off, by the way.”
Eddie playfully frowns, making haste to rid himself of his silver ornaments. “Watch these for me.” You moan when he lines the cold jewelry straight along your navel, “And keep still.” He says. “Wouldn’t want these little babies all over the floor.”
You look down at him from where you lay, hands reaching for him as his steady breaths fan over your pulsing cunt. The placement of his rings on your belly feels incredibly sexual, like a signature on your body that belonged to Eddie. Every tiny movement you make causes the silver to shift just a little bit, so when his tongue finally makes contact with your clit, you have to stop yourself from thrashing out in satisfaction.
But something about the way Eddie looks at you from between your thighs, his moans buried in your own folds, just makes you want to leap up and take him right there.
Maybe you don’t give him enough credit for his restraint.
He continues to flick his tongue over your bundle of nerves, testing out your sensitivity and relearning the perfect amount of pressure when he suckles on your clit. He drags his hands down your outer thighs, gripping the soft flesh with a newfound hunger.
“Fuck, E-Eddie… feels nice. God, I love your mouth, you’re so — so good with it, baby.”
“Yeah? Fucking tastes delicious. Could eat your pussy out everyday.” He chuckles sneakily. “Maybe even take you to-go. Lick you up whenever I need a snack.”
You whimper, balling your hands into fists in his hair when he slips a long finger inside you. “Perv.”
“Simply a man speaking his mind, Y/N.” Eddie’s digit slowly curls into you, making an embarrassing wet and sopping sound that draws a whiny groan out of him. “Christ, you really are wet. Fucking hell, babe.”
Babe.
That’s a first.
Eddie adds another finger, the soft heel of his palm is pressed roughly against your clit as he rocks his hand into you. Your cunt grips around him tightly, pulling him in further with every stroke that brushes against your contracting walls. He nibbles on your inner thigh while gauging your reaction, dreamily gazing up at you with those huge eyes as he fucks you with his slender fingers.
“Eds, please. Mmm… f-fuck, I’m… fuck!” You grit your teeth to muffle the sounds of your broken moans, the rings laid out on your stomach nearly toppling over as your hips jolt up. “You fill me up so well, your fingers are so — fuck, please. Please just fuck me.”
“Oh, such a dirty mouth.” He hums in amusement, grinning as he uses his other hand to massage your clit. “At least give me one orgasm. Just one, baby. You know I love making you cum more than once. You deserve it, deserve cumming over and over again like the pretty girl you are.”
His hand snaps into you faster, your juices coating his palm as you start to drip all over him. His digits are embarrassingly slick, and you quickly feel the rush of your climax approaching from his gentle words.
“I’m — I’m close, just please… please keep touching me like that. Gonna… gonna cum.”
A smile spreads across his face, “Yeah? Keep beggin’ for it. Show me how much you want it. Need some convincing.”
“Please, please let me cum. I’m so — Eddie, want you so bad. Please make me cum so I can… fuck, so I can have your cock inside me already.”
“Only because you said so, sweet thing.”
You share a look. Longing. Need. Lust.
Then Eddie is fucking his fingers knuckle-deep into you, relentless and unstopping, a sensation so overwhelming that you don’t even know you’re cumming until Eddie is pointing out how you’ve wet the carpet.
“Did you just…” Your mouth falls open in disbelief, breasts heaving as he pulls his fingers from your cunt.
He grins toothily. The smug bastard. “Make you squirt? Hell-fucking-yeah.” Eddie leans over you, capturing your lips in a celebratory kiss that feels all too tender. “That was so goddamn hot. Christ, I could cream my pants.”
“You’re so lame.” You laugh, pushing his shoulder gently before he’s pecking either side of your cheek.
“Lame? Does lame make a girl squirt? I don’t think so. I’m cool-lame. Watch, I’ll make you squirt again.”
“In your dreams, Munson.”
He slips his boots off, pushing the rest of his jeans down and kicks it to the side. “Get on your knees.”
You send him a challenging look, raising your brows with a smirk. “If I don’t?”
“Guess I can just do this, then.” You yelp as Eddie flips you onto your stomach. His rings clatter loudly to the floorboards, flying in all different directions as he hooks an arm around your waist and pulls you closer to him. A heavy sigh leaves his mouth, and you glance back at him with sudden concern. “Fuck… condom?”
“Just pull out.”
“Just… pull… out?”
You shrug, making a confused face. “Yeah, I’ll pop something in the morning.”
“Y/N, honey, have you ever been to this thing called… I don’t know, sex-ed?” Eddie’s eyes are wide, and you would’ve laughed had you not noticed his extremely hard cock waiting in his hand.
“Honestly, I’m more of a hands-on learner.”
“Oh, are you now?”
“Most definitely. You’d know.”
“You sure you want me to pull out? We can just stop right here if you don’t wanna keep going.”
You bite your lip, eyeing him over your shoulder with a half-lidded gaze. “I wanna keep going.”
“Down you go then, Y/N. Fuck, let me see you.” His hand comes down on the middle of your spine, pressing onto your back until your cheek is laying against the floor. You can feel his tip prodding into your entrance, the teasing motion of his cock rubbing against your needy slit. “Shit, baby, could just cum on myself from looking at you.”
“Please, f-fuck me.”
His dick enters you in one, slow and agonizing motion. You muffle your moans into the carpet, mewling from the immense stretch you feel between your legs as Eddie buries himself deep inside you. His hips are lined up against the curve of your ass, his large hands leaving dark prints on your skin as he pulls out and pushes back in.
“S-shit… Y/N.” He drawls, hair falling against his face as he watches his thick cock disappear into your cunt. “Fuck, you’re so tight. What the fuck… Christ, it’s like the first time I had you.”
When he took your virginity on that lunch table in the trailer park, that’s definitely what he meant.
“Oh, my god. You’re so — so big, I can’t… can’t think with you inside, I just… fuck, move.” You reach back for his hand, nearly crying out when he places his palms on either side of your head and looms over your compromised position. He trails his soft lips over the nape of your neck, his pick necklace brushing over your skin as he breathes your scent in. “Need you. Need you, you treat me so well.”
“I know. I know I do, sweetheart. Rock back for me, yeah? Feel it, feel my cock right here.” You choke on a moan when Eddie feels up your abdomen, stroking the outline of his cock inside you. “Good girl. You can take it.”
His hand wraps back around your throat, fingers pressing into your pulse point before he’s pulling you up by your neck and having you sit on his dick. He chuckles darkly, “Your favorite seat in the house, right? All the way, Y/N. Take it deep for me.”
You shiver when his head pushes against your g-spot, and you realize that shutting your thighs together is absolutely no use when Eddie Munson is balls-deep inside you.
“Oh, f-fuck!” Your voice comes out garbled and raspy as his hold on your throat tightens, bruising yet pleasurable all at once as he pounds into you.
From fucking under bleachers, to the bathrooms in the library, to the back of his van and the floor of your childhood bedroom, you’ve come a long way.
Eddie’s fingers leave your throat and find comfort on your supple waist, digging into your generous hips as you grind on his lap. He meets you halfway with long strokes, slow and purposeful with each thrust of his cock.
“Y/N, baby… f-fuck, you feel so good. So fucking good. I-I — holy fuck — I’m so lucky I can do this with you.” He whines out, barely coherent, but you can only focus on that one phrase.
Lucky I can do this with you.
“Eddie, fucking hell. Oh, oh my god. P-Please… wanna cum on you.”
“Gonna get you there, baby. Promise. A little longer, yeah? Gotta make you cum before I do.”
Your fingers messily circle over your clit, a combined sensation of pleasure that adds to the feeling of Eddie stretching out your pussy beneath you. He’s holding back his moans, stifling whimpers against your shoulder when his pace starts to quicken and his rhythm grows sloppy.
You tilt your head back and reach for his lips, pulling his face against yours as he continues fucking into you. You still taste yourself on his tongue, and you’d be lying if you denied that you enjoyed the idea of his mouth being on your cunt just moments ago.
“You’re so pretty.” You whisper against his cheek, watching as his eyes close in bliss. “Fuck, you’re so hot. And I get you all to myself — a cheerleader and her favorite rockstar… oh, you fuck me so well.”
The praise goes straight to Eddie’s dick, and your words spur him on even further. He holds you tight against his chest, tattooed hands grasping at your skin and breasts as he feels you clench around his length.
“Close, ain’t you? C’mon, sweet girl. Two for two. Let me feel you cum, Y/N. S’my favorite part.” Eddie nearly topples over when your cunt gives his cock one hard and long squeeze, fingers flying to help you massage your clit as another orgasm pumps through your quivering body. “Holy fuck, you’re so sexy when you cum. S-Shit, I… I gotta pull out…”
You nearly sob from the loss of contact when Eddie leaves you, emptying his seed out across your back and the tenderness of your ass as he grunts quietly behind you. Of course, you make no subtlety to watch him ride out his high — that perfect scowl on his face, the curl on his lip as he moans and runs his thumb over the leaking head of his prick.
“Hoooly fuck…” You sigh out, knees giving out from under you. Thankfully, Eddie catches you at the last second, arm swooping under your stomach before your body can make contact with the floor. “Oh, my god. That was…”
“Yeah, I… I honestly can’t… can’t think right now when there’s cum all over us.” He giggles heartily, leaving a hickey right on your collarbone. “Fuck, your neck is all red and purple.”
“Hot.”
“Not hot, I’m sorry if I was too rough. Just been thinkin’ about you lately, and… well, I guess I couldn’t help myself. Hold still for a sec.”
The admission makes you smirk, and you look back at Eddie as he grabs a random towel from your closet and wipes his spill off of your back. You turn over once he’s finished, arms outstretched over your head as Eddie sits against your bed frame and lazily draws shapes on your calf.
“You think about me in your free time often, Munson?”
He clicks his tongue and tilts his head to the side cutely, “Only when I wanna recall something pretty.”
“Mhm. Sure, rockstar.” You flick at his hand.
“Don’t let it get to your head, miss cheerleader.”
Eddie continues running his fingers up and down your leg, taking in the beautiful sight of your naked body as the late midnight seeps through your curtains. You hum as he brings your ankle to his lips, pressing a tender kiss to the bone before he’s leaning his head back against the edge of the bed and letting out a tired sigh.
“Wish you could stay the night.” The words that leave you shock you just as much as they do Eddie. “I mean, I just don’t want you driving back so late, y’know.”
“I know.” He takes note of your darting eyes, suddenly evading his amused stare at all costs. He’ll play nice for now. “I’ll see you tomorrow though, just before first period. Wanna see you in your dorky uniform.”
You gape at him, sitting up with an expression of feigned offense. “Okay, rude. I thought the uniform was hot — like, like every guy’s fantasy kind of hot.”
“Only getting back at you for calling me dungeon master.” He shrugs giddily, before he’s pulling your legs off of his lap then slipping on his wrinkled boxers and jeans. You follow suit, fetching new underwear and a flannel before you prop the window back open while he collects his rings from your bedroom.
Eddie’s belt buckle jangles behind you as you sit on the bench by the windowsill, looking out at the flickering street lamp of your little culdesac. A hand on your hip draws you from your trance, and you’re met with Eddie’s sunken face of an awaiting goodbye.
“Stay safe, Hellfire.” You tease, heart fluttering as he squeezes your side and gently moves you away from the window. You’re unable to tear your gaze away from his arms, admiring the way his tattoos glint on his porcelain skin.
“By the way, best part about this is the drive back.”
“Huh?” You lean over as Eddie clambers out onto your roof, boots nearly slipping on the shingles. “Why’s that?”
He smirks, glancing at the sky before he settles on the details of your face. “Get to think about you all the way home.”
Then, he’s landing on your lawn with two feet and jogging away from your porch, but not without a nerdy wave and a little wink that makes your heart do another somersault similar to when he first knocked his way into your room.
Whatever this is, whatever it’s going to be, you know the both of you are absolutely fucked in the long run. Either way, it doesn’t matter what people will end up thinking.
You’re so damn into him, even if it is — after all — just a fling. Totally a fling.
Just a cheerleader and her favorite rockstar.

A.N.- Am I finally back? I might be, don’t hold it against me. I know it’s been forever so if you’ve stuck it through and you still follow me, you’re a real one and I love you. If you’re just passing by that’s okay too, check out my masterlist if you’d like. Love you guys, and I hope you enjoy :)
—-------------------------------------------------
You met Steve through Dustin, which isn't surprising
Dustin basically made you his 3rd parental figure because he saw right through the ‘tough’ facade like he did Steve and Eddie
Steve didn’t necessarily avoid you before Dustin introduced you two, but he certainly didn’t make an effort to talk to you or look you in the eye for too long
He really did find you charming and ~mysterious~ in a weird way, even if you didn’t talk much
(He wouldn’t admit that he told Dustin he was spooked by you, even if Dustin told you anyways)
Once he saw how good you were with Dustin, it didn’t take him long to develop feelings in the midst of taking care of Dustin and occasionally the other kids together
It did take him a little bit to get a good conversation out of you, coughing awkwardly when he asked a question and you gave a simple answer, and he was put off by your resting face for a while
When you two got together, he quickly found out how sweet and cuddly you actually were, and how lovely your smile was when you laughed at his stupid jokes
He always made an effort to make you laugh or smile, or to simply charm you, even if it made him look stupid
He always always looks up at you with that goofy smile and waits for your reaction
It doesn’t matter how much taller than him you are, he will put his arm around your waist when you stand next to each other
It’s okay though cause you usually rested your hand on his back or your arm on his shoulders (and maybe on his head if he was being annoying, and yes he scolded you for it)
ABSOLUTELY mom/dad dynamic with all the kids
Steve being the scolder (lovingly, of course) and you typically giving in to whatever the kids wanted to do (as long as it was safe, of course)
Max sometimes jokes about liking you better than Steve (liar, she likes you both) only because you’re less strict
”We were their age once, too, Steve”, that was your motto
Pet names like ‘Honey’, ‘Sweetheart’, ‘Babe’ were thrown around a LOT between you two
Honestly, with the kids, it didn’t take you two long to just act like a married couple
Steve is nearly always little spoon, don’t tell anyone though
(You told Dustin, he said “I knew it.” and snapped his fingers. You’re unsure how many of the others now.)
You enjoyed picking up Steve when you hugged, just to hear him yelp when his feet no longer touched the floor
The kids enjoy bombarding you and half of them just jumping on you, just for you to scramble to hold them all
They also enjoy how you keep some of the bullies off of them and some of the rest of the party, but there was only so much you could do since you’re graduated
Sometimes you enjoyed picking them up from school to watch the bullies back off when they saw you
(So sorry about all the kids’ headcanons, but honestly they’re included with Steve one way or another, let’s be realistic)
Steve likes to pretend he’s just as intimidating, but really all you need to do is stand there while he scolds whomever may be misbehaving that day
(most of the kids see right through you so it does Not work on them typically, especially Dustin and Max. You are okay with this.)
For how much he talks, you two are the perfect match. You just sit and listen to his rants.
ESPECIALLY when he’s driving, he just seems to spill all his thoughts without even thinking, and you just nod along and ask questions every once and a while
You enjoy every second of it. Sometimes you get caught sending hearteyes his way and Steve goes "What?", and you shake your head and tell him to continue
He LOVES borrowing your tshirts and hoodies/sweatshirts when he spends the night, just to sleep in because of how big and soft they are
Hugs you just to hold you there, his head either right in your neck or in your chest
Goes on his tiptoes to kiss you, forgets at some point and is laughed at by the party and he goes bright red
He’s quiet as you leave them at Will’s house and you speak up
“I think it’s cute when you do that.”
“Shut up.”

steve & physical affection
robin: steve is probably the most affectionate with robin with other people around. they hold hands, play with each others hair (only robin and eddie can touch steve’s hair), always sit next to each other, cuddle at night (holding the other through nightmares), use the other as a pillow, etc.
since most people in Hawkins think they are dating, no one questions how touchy they are and they accidentally become the town couple. girlfriends ask their boyfriends why they don’t show them as much affection as steve does to robin, housewives sigh and dream about what could’ve been- and one actually leaves her husband and thanks stobin for helping her realize she deserves better (they’re extremely confused but very happy for her). everyone in the Party & co. knows ppl think they are dating except for steve and robin who are completely oblivious to it. they all think it’s hilarious
eddie: while he is the go-to person when robin isn’t around, steve also just likes being close to/held by someone his height/taller (eddie wears platform boots for a reason). he likes to play with eddie’s hands and trace his tattoos, and likes to sit next to eddie and just feel the solid weight of him. his shoulders easily become steve’s favorite headrest/pillow. when they sit across from each other, they usually end up interlocking their legs or just kicking at each other like kids (they’re idiots /affectionate)
steve is the only person eddie lets touch his hair because he knows that steve Gets It. steve feels weirdly honored and definitely does not tear up when eddie tells him, no sir. he loves brushing eddie’s hair and braiding it, and it makes eddie feel pampered so he does it a lot
once they start dating eddie likes to use steve’s lap as a pillow and steve will play with eddie’s hair and press kisses all over his face (eddie swears steve’s thighs are better than any expensive pillow)
when he notices steve start panicking or disassociating, eddie will grip the back of his neck in order to ground him. he’ll run his hand through the hair at steve’s nape and talk about his day or what to have for dinner in order to distract steve from his thoughts
when the same happens to eddie, steve will pull eddie to his chest, hold him really tight (the pressure helps eddie) and whisper assurances (i’m okay, you’re okay, we’re safe, etc.) while rubbing his back
their favorite way to sleep is with steve on his back, eddie half on top of him using his chest as a pillow, and steve’s arms looped around eddie’s shoulders
steve can’t be held without feeling claustrophobic and he prefers holding onto someone rather than being held anyway (aka he’s the big spoon). eddie is the opposite and prefers to be held so it works out perfectly. steve basically uses eddie as a human teddy bear and eddie loves it.
they kiss each others scars ofc
steve loves hugging eddie from behind in the middle of conversations, just wrapping his arms around eddie and hooking his chin over his shoulder randomly (eddie doesn’t even react anymore, just continues the conversation like nothing happened)
similarly when either of them need to recharge they just walk up to the other and drop their head on the other’s shoulder. the other is then obligated to hide them from people who want to talk to them
during hellfire campaigns steve will sit on eddie’s throne and eddie will sit on his lap so steve can hug him and watch the game over his shoulder. once he learns more about D&D he offers eddie ideas (one of the biggest twists in the Party’s latest campaign that they all loved was actually steve’s idea) and will occasionally play an npc
when they’re in public they throw an arm around each others shoulders, roughhouse and do “bro stuff” as an excuse to be touchy

Lost in you
In Joyce and Hopper’s wedding, love blooms not only for the just married couple.
Eddie munson x fem!reader.
1.7k words.
warnings: It's just all very fluffy, maybe an insult or two, use of "Y/n", alcohol drinking.
a/n: I really want to see Eddie in a man-bun with a black suit, I also really want a green dress like andrew garfield sang about and I'm gonna make it everyone's problem.
Tumblr media
Eddie was a bit uncomfortable, the suit he was wearing wasn’t his usual outfit choice, he hated the way the tie felt around his neck, the only one good thing about the outfit was that it was an all-black suit, shirt, pants, tie―everything.
The other thing that was making him uncomfortable was that he was wearing his hair in a man-bun, Joyce made him do it, because if it had been his choice, he would have let his hair fall to his shoulders and with his usual curls. But Joyce said she would not let him in if he wore it like that. So he was forced to put gel on the loose ends and everything, the bun felt tight and it was kind of hurting his scalp, at least they let his bangs alone.
But he suddenly forgot all about the suit, the tie, and the bun as soon as he saw you walk in next to Robin. You were wearing a long beautiful green dress, your hair was with some waves, your make up was very well-done, and you were much taller than usual, he saw the heels and fell in love with the way your legs looked with them.
You looked stunning.
All thoughts had left Eddie’s brain, he could only focus on watching you walk towards him alongside with Robin, he even forgot to close his mouth which had dropped the second he saw you.
“Dude, you’re drooling” Steve warned him before you reached their side.
“Hi guys” you and Rob greeted.
“You look so handsome, Eds” you said calmly. How could you act normal when you looked so gorgeous?
“You’re one to talk” he somehow managed to said.
“You like it? I wasn’t really sure about the colour”
“Green looks amazing on you, honey”
You smiled at him.
“I really like the black suit, especially on you”
He almost chocked. What did you mean “especially on him"?
After that, you had gone on to greet the happy couple and other people too.
You were sat on the same table luckily, with Steve, Jonathan, Argyle, Nancy and Robin too.
But you made sure to sit next to him, God you were killing him.
You all ate and listened to the toast Jonathan, Will and Eleven had wrote for their parents. After that, the dancing started, Eddie wasn’t a big fan of that part either―or so he thought.
They weren’t playing his usual choice for music, more like pop music, but he obviously expected that.
He danced with the same group he was sat with, Dustin and the other kids sometimes came in and stayed talking with all of you, but they didn’t like it when Steve started telling them to also dance.
That part wasn’t making him nervous, it was like any other day, you all hanging out, talking and joking like usual.
That was until the slow songs started, the first song was only danced by Joyce with Hopper, and you watching them.
“Oh, I love The Police!” you said when “Every Breath You Take” started playing.
Couples started to dance to it, Jonathan grabbed Nancy, Robin was about to take you to dance with her but Steve quickly grabbed her and winked at Eddie. What was that for?
You were slowly moving and mouthing the lyrics, and then he understood, Steve had done that so Eddie could dance with you.
Very nervously and hesitantly, he offered his hand to you, watching you carefully.
You took it with a smile.
You wrapped your hands around his neck and he wrapped his around you waist, still fairly far away from you.
It seems that you noticed that too, so you pulled him closer. “We look like eleven-year-olds dancing like that”
He laughed at your joke and relaxed. It was just you. And he knew you. Nothing to be scared of.
He pulled you even closer, your chests touching, faces very close to each other. He didn’t have to look down at you though, because of the heels, you were at his eye-level.
He got lost in your eyes, in your arms around him, in his around you, in your hips dancing slowly at the rhythm of the song―his new favourite song―he got lost in you.
You lowered you head to lay it on his shoulder, still dancing, both lost in your own world, he never wanted to find his way back.
You tried to play with his hair since your hands were right on the back on his neck, but since it was in the bun, you couldn’t. He never hated that bun more than in that exact moment.
“Forgot you had the man-bun there for a second” you said.
“Joyce made me do it, said I look more formal”
“I like it, I can see you pretty face more”
“Are you saying you don’t like the long hair?” he teased.
“I love it and you know it” you both laughed.
“You look gorgeous… really― breath-taking” he said.
You smiled and were about to say something when the song finished and Robin started to sing―scream really―at the next song, saying it was her favourite. You laughed and unwrapped your arms that were on his neck to go dance with your best friend.
The night went on with more laughs, dances, and glances and smiles between you and Eddie.
More alcohol too, since Steve and Argyle were able to sneak a bottle for you guys to drink since Joyce and specially, the chief police, Hopper wouldn’t let you have any.
It wasn’t much, since it was one bottle shared among seven teenagers, but it was enough to let loose.
The night was nearly coming to end, with elders leaving saying it was too late for them and children falling asleep.
“Are you ever gonna make a move?” Steve asked Eddie.
“What?”
“Oh, come on, don’t play dumb with me”
Eddie ignored him.
“I’ve already gotten three phone numbers and one of them is a bride’s-maid’s”
“Good for you”
“You’re gonna regret it later”
“I’m gonna regret it too if I do make a move and she rejects me and then it’s all weird between us”
“But that’s not gonna happen because she totally likes you too”
“We just don’t know that, do we?”
“Robin told me”
“You’re lying”
“You’re impossible, Munson” Steve left and you came next to him again.
“We tried to get a glass of Champaign but Joyce caught us”
“Really?”
“Yeah, you know what? When I get married I’m gonna let kids older than 18 to drink, that’s only fair”
“Already planning your wedding?”
“Oh honey, I’ve planning it since I was six”
“That’s really cute, a six-year-old-Y/n running around with a white pillow case on her hair, who was the groom at that time?”
“…Roger Taylor” Eddie laughed loudly.
“Always fancied long-haired guys”
“You’re getting too cocky for a guy whose long hair is in really tight bun”
“Hey! You said you liked it!”
“I do! I just know you don’t and you can’t wait to get rid of it”
“Oh, you know me too well”
“Never doubt me, pretty boy”
“You’re the pretty one here”
You smiled.
“Especially tonight sweetheart, that green dress, my God”
“Yeah, Steve told me you were drooling over it when I arrived”
“He did what now?!”
You laughed at the face he made.
“I’m flattered really, just a shame I had to find out from someone else”
“Hey, I told you several times how good you look”
“Yeah, but you never do anything about it” you whispered.
“Wh-what?” he was sure he heard you wrong.
“Nothing” and you left.
He spent a few minutes trying to find you again, until he did.
“Hey”
“Hmm”
“Do you—do want to dance again?” he made his best puppy-eyes.
“…Sure” you smiled, they always worked.
You got close to each other again, wrapped your arm around each other again. What was different this time was that he put his face inches away from yours.
He played touching your lips with his, waiting for you to move away, but you never did. And he kissed you. Softly and lovingly.
He pulled you impossibly closer, and you kept kissing.
Grabbing his face with your hands you kept kissing him like that, his lips were so soft and his tongue danced a little with yours.
You pulled away after some time. Still, lips centimetres away from each other.
“I finally did do something about it” he whispered.
“Finally” You kissed him again but were cut off when you heard cheering.
You looked and Steve, Robin, Nancy, all of the others cheering you two, even Joyce and Hopper clapped.
You both laughed.
“I really, really, really like you, if you didn’t know it already” he said.
“I knew” you admitted “but I wanted to hear it from you, not the others”
“And I really, really, really like you too, by the way” you also said.
“That’s a relief” he smiled.
“Are we gonna go back to how it was after this?”
“Do you- um- do you want to?”
“No” you shook your head.
“What do you want, sweetheart?”
“Want you”
“Wanna go out on a date tomorrow?” he smiled, lips touching yours. That made you smile also.
“Obviously”
“Everyone!” Joyce shouted “Hello everyone, thank you all for coming and celebrate with us, it really means a lot to us that you’re here. Anyway, It’s time to throw the bouquet!”
“Y/n, let’s go!” Nancy told you.
“I’m 18, I’m not gonna get married yet”
“Oh, but still, It’s fun”
“Go, I’ll keep kissing you later”
“You better, Munson”
You stood on the group of women behind Joyce.
“One… two… three!”
The bouquet fell to floor right in front of you, Nancy and Robin who were next to you, stopped the other girls trying to reach for it.
“GRAB IT, IT YOURS” they said, you had no choice but to do it. You thought that this all had to be arranged, there was just no way this was on accident.
You went over to Eddie while everyone clapped.
“Guess you’ll get to marry a long haired guy after all” he joked.
“Oh, shut up” he still made you smile.
“Good thing you’ve already planned our wedding, darling” he said while hugging you.
“You’ve just grown the balls to kiss me, don’t propose to me yet”
“Not yet” he emphasized the ‘yet’ and kissed you.
After you pulled back, you swear you saw Joyce and Nancy high-five watching you two. It was definitely arranged, very cute though, nice touch Wheeler.

Eddie and a tall f!reader? Like imagine they started to talk a diner and when they’re about to leave they stand up and she is a good 5 cm taller than him. How would he react? And how wold he make her feel better then she’s feeling extra insecure one day?
I don't think he'd mind a tall girl! I certainly don't~
Just general awkwardness and cuteness below the cut for Dano!Riddler and a Tol Fem Reader with some I think universal hating of women's clothes and how they fit.
If you met at the diner and there was good conversation I think he would just be excited to have something good happen to him, even if he never saw you again. He would take a chance and pay for your order just so the nice thing you've done for him (talk to him) is repaid. You thank him, blushing and he waves it off while pushing up his glasses.
"It-it's no problem really...I hope you have a nice evening..."
"You too," you mumble.
Funnily enough you both got off your stools at the same time and looked at each other. You were a little taller than him which was a first for him. He expected to be looking down at you but here you were, matching his gaze and at...perfect kiss height.
He blushed and smiled, apologizing but you let out a little laugh. "What are you apologizing for?"
"I...I don't know I didn't mean to stare I've never met a girl who's around my height. Uhm let alone taller than me."
"Oh..." You looked away, clearly thinking that maybe he wasn't actually interested now. The little piece of paper you'd written your number on while he had gone to the restroom clutched in your hand. You'd just throw it away you decided. Fra from the diner. And you could probably never come back to the diner again now that you thought about it.
"N-no it's not-not like that," Eddie laughs awkwardly. "I like it, It's not something I've seen and it-it's nice. It's nice to uh, to not be alone..."
You looked up and met his eyes and felt yourself smile widely. "Yeah?"
"Yeah..."
"Well...I think it's nice you're tall too. If you uh, wanna do this again I uh wrote my number down for you." You offer him the crumpled paper and he took it with what looked like reverence. "That's my name and number. So..."
Eddie smiled wide at you after looking at the paper. "Thank you, I'll-I'll use it. I'm Edward. Edward Nashton."
***
Months later, Edward was your sweet little riddle obsessed boyfriend and you loved to come home to him every day after work. Today was Saturday and you'd convinced Eddie to go shopping with you. His wardrobe was simple and bland and that was fine but growing up an orphan and very poor meant he held onto money as much as he could and his clothes were worn to almost tatters. You'd personally made sure some of his favorite shirts were salvaged but others just needed to be replaced. You focused on him first and getting him a little but out of his shell but then he turned the tables on you.
"Let's get some things for you," he said as he pushed the cart. "I'd rather spend my money on you."
You weren't sure but his sweet smile and gentle encouraging had you picking out clothes and heading into the dressing rooms with him. Everything he tried on fit him perfectly fine but your stuff...well.
"What was wrong with that?" Eddie asked you as you pulled off yet another top, almost in tears because it hadn't fit your chest or come down enough to be anything but a crop top. it was the third shirt to be like that.
"It didn't fit," you mumbled, picking up a dress and pulling it over your head.
"Oh-yeah it was kinda small bu-" He was cut off by you yanking the dress off and tossing it on the floor in a fit. You sit next to him hard on the little bench and started pulling your own clothes back on. "Hey hey, sweetie what's wrong?"
"I just-I'm sick of things not fitting! I'm either too tall to wear it or just nothing fits properly!" You'd pulled on your bottoms and shoes, Eddie pulled you close suddenly, keeping you from putting your shirt back on.
"Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you upset," He said, his face in your neck giving you soothing kisses. You were still upset...but his arms around you made it better. You leaned into his touch. "I'm sorry it's frustrating but you threw away some things that looked great on you! I think if we get bigger sizes they'll be much more comfortable."
You mumbled something and he squeezed you gently. "What was that baby? Cmon, use your big girl words."
You sighed, "You don't mind my height right? I know you said you don't but it's hard sometimes especially to wear nice things ."
"Oh honey," Eddie chuckled, cupping your face and kissing you gently. "I...I love you, just the way you are. I know its frustrating and I wish I could help in some other way than just taking you shopping somewhere else. But I have never thought you looked bad in any outfit, or thought you've ever looked bad period."
You looked at him, lower lip jutting out in a pout. "Really?"
"Really. And if these clothes don't work for you we'll go somewhere else or order online. I'll uh...get your exact measurements an scour all the trendy sites." His long fingers tickled your side and a cute little mischievous smile grew on his face when you giggled.
"Alright," you conceded, covering his hand with yours. "Let's do that instead." You kissed again and when you were checking out you realized he'd put the dress you'd discarded in the basket.
"Hey! That dress was too short silly what are you doing?"
Eddie was flushed and he adjusted his grip on the basket before glancing at you. "I just...I thought you could wear it just at home..."
You grinned. Now that was something you wouldn't mind doing at all.

for the Fun Fact Prompts ! why are you in a tree?
Dear Anon! It's more of a first line prompt than a fun fact prompt, but given that I instantly knew the second line of this as soon as I read the first, I'll allow it.
This got very silly and very far away from me, so the bulk of it is under the cut <3
“Why are you in a tree? No, wait, wait don’t tell me. K-I-S-S-I-N-G?”
“Maddie, can you focus please?” Buck whines into the phone. “We’re stuck.”
“Okay, okay, okay,” she laughs. “Tell me again. Where are you guys?”
Buck explains their location in the park, the fallen ladder, and Maddie agrees to come and rescue them as soon as she can.
“Of all the times for Albert not to answer his phone,” Buck grouses as he shifts on the tree branch to get his own back into his pocket. “He wouldn’t show up and sing at us.”
“Sing?” Eddie asks.
“K-I-S-S-I-N-G.”
“Ah.”
“Yeah.”
“Did she say how long-?”
“Just whenever she can. She’s gonna have to pack the baby up so we could be here for hours. You didn’t have anywhere to go right?”
“Me? No. Sitting in an oak tree was my only plan for the day.”
“Sorry,” Buck winces.
It's his fault that they’re stuck. It started with a kite. A big blue one lodged high in the branches of a tree that he spotted when he was biking through the park. A couple of kids were standing below it, looking up with sad expressions and making valiant efforts to boost each other up onto the lower branches. The tree was too big for them though, the branch too far from the ground. Buck had slowed to a stop beside them.
The branch was out of reach for him too, even when leaning his bike against the tree and trying to climb up on the seat. Fortunately the park had a concession stand--closed now, open just for little league games--and the stand had a ladder leaning against the side of the building. It was nothing for Buck to jog over and loosen the rusted brackets holding the ladder in place, then to brace it against the tree and start climbing.
The tree was full of sturdy branches, easy enough to climb. He just… needed to find a route. The kite was further up than it had looked from the ground, tangled in leaves and dangerously far out on the limb.
As Buck stood contemplating, another strong breeze had come through (it was perfect kite flying weather after all), making him wobble on the branch and sending his ladder crashing to the ground.
The kids had shrieked and run off without their kite, completely ignoring Buck’s pleas to just put the ladder back and then vanished over the nearest hill. The stiff wind and unseasonably cool weather had left the park more deserted than usual and Buck had had to swallow his pride and call Eddie who only laughed at him a little.
That wind blows hard again, chilling Buck through his training jersey and making the branches sway. He reaches up to grab the branch overhead, trying to feel a little more stable and Eddie reaches out toward him automatically, even though he’s too far away to reach. The other man is sitting against the trunk of the tree, leaning back, serene and stable, as though he’s on the ground and not 10 feet in the air.
“You were wrong, you know,” Buck says, once he has his balance back.
One of Eddie’s eyebrows quirks up as if to say, Wrong? Me?
“You could never have gotten up there from the other way.”
“Well it’s not like your way worked out that much better.”
When his boyfriend (and wow did that term send shivers up and down Buck’s spine every time he thought it, new and fresh as it still is) had turned up at the park, he’d righted the ladder immediately, expecting Buck to climb back down. Instead, knowing he had a stable route down, Buck had turned his attention back up toward the kite and called back that he’d be down in just a minute.
“Which way are you going?” Eddie had asked. So Buck had pointed out the route to him.
“No. No way. You’re gonna get stuck at that skinny branch and you’ll never make it. You’ve got to go up the other way.”
“What other way?”
Eddie pointed it out and Buck scoffed, “Now that’s ridiculous. You’re not even going to be able to reach it from there.”
“Wanna bet?” Eddie had said.
So now they were both stuck on the branch, kiteless.
“You should come over here,” Eddie says, frowning as the wind shakes the tree again and Buck holds on against the sway. “The branch doesn’t move as much.”
“You worried about me?” Buck asks, smirking over at Eddie who just rolls his eyes.
“It’s not a secret anymore, Buck. You breaking your spine is going to seriously fuck with my weekend plans.”
His weekend plans with Buck. The two of them alone. For the first time since Eddie had pinned Buck against his kitchen counter and kissed him senseless. If Buck had ever had any incentive to stay out of the hospital it was for this promise of whatever Eddie wanted to do next.
“Well I’d hate to do that,” he says, looking over at Eddie through his lashes with faux remorse. “I already ruined your afternoon.”
“Will you just get your ass over here?” Eddie replies, trying not to look ridiculously pleased as he holds out his arm to coax Buck over.
Buck needs very little coaxing. He stands because it’s easier than scooting, walking the tightrope of the tree branch until he’s directly beside Eddie, then dropping down again. “Hi,” he says.
“Hi,” Eddie replies.
It’s dangerous to let himself get distracted when he’s perched so precariously, but Buck can’t help it. With his right hand reached overhead to grab the next branch for balance, he holds out his left for Eddie to take. That Eddie does without hesitation, that he squeezes tight, that he smiles at Buck with that soft, happy smile he doesn’t give to anyone else, still feels like a precious gift. It’s so new, what they have. Buck wants to melt into every moment. Cherish it like it may never come again.
“So,” Eddie says, running his thumb over the back of Buck’s hand. “How do people kiss in trees do you think? It seems pretty dangerous to me.”
Humming as though he’s giving the matter serious thought, Buck says, “A tree house probably makes the most sense.”
“Sure. If you were smart enough to plan ahead. But if you weren’t…”
“If you weren’t,” Buck says, taking his hand back so he can move again, carefully, carefully swinging one leg over so he’s straddling the branch. “I think there’s still a few options. You should, uh, get as close to the trunk as you can. With your back to it, probably.”
Once he’s sure that Buck’s stable, Eddie takes the instruction, using that taller branch to lift himself up just a little, turning, shifting one leg over the branch like Buck has, and settling back against the tree trunk. At the stoutest part of the branch, Eddie almost has a stable seat, though he still crosses his legs tightly below the branch to hold his position. “I can see how this would work,” he says. “If you were careful.”
“Oh careful is the most important thing,” Buck says, inching forward, hand over hand above his head. “It helps to have a strong partner. One who won’t let you fall.”
When he reaches Eddie, he keeps his knees pressed close to the branch so he can try and fit himself between Eddie’s legs, so they can get as close as possible. Buck sees Eddie’s eyes flash with concern when he moves his hands from the branch down onto Eddie’s shoulders and immediately feels one strong arm behind his back.
“One hand on the branch,” Eddie says, his breath close enough to tickle Buck’s ear. “Please.”
“Chicken,” Buck says, lifting his left hand again to clutch the branch.
“Daredevil,” Eddie replies, lifting his own hand and clutching Buck’s fingers over their heads.
“You like it,” Buck teases, unable to stop himself from grinning as he stares into Eddie’s eyes to see exactly how much he does.
“You’re awfully full of yourself.”
“You like that too. You pretend like you’re so mature and by the book, but you like me getting you all riled-”
The rest of his sentence is lost to Eddie’s mouth on his. Buck gives himself over to it immediately, letting Eddie’s firm hand on his back push him forward just a little bit more. He lets his own arm slide behind Eddie’s neck, feeling the bark bite into him on one side and Eddie’s soft hair tickling on the other. Buck loses himself to it, quickly losing his balance as he does and he squeezes tightly to Eddie’s hand anchoring him in place.
“I like all of it,” Eddie whispers, once they pull apart. “I like you.”
Buck has just enough time to enjoy the little shiver that those words send through all his nerves before Eddie’s kissing him again. The chill of the wind, the height from the ground, even the uncomfortable feel of the branch beneath them all fades into the background. Eddie’s kissing him and Buck’s as secure as he’s ever been.
It’s only Maddie’s voice that pulls them out of the moment, sing-songing from the bottom of the tree as she lifts their ladder, “Buck and Ed-die, sittin’ in a tree…”
If you know any fun facts, send them to me and I'll see if I can't make a ficlet out of it!

begging for footnotes in the story of your life
Ana learns a lot about Buck while she’s dating Eddie, like how Buck’s the one who should be dating him.
Ana learns about Buck in stages.
First from Christopher, when she was his teacher, and he would mention his Buck or draw Buck in family pictures.
The second from the school nurse telling her that Christopher is being signed out to go home and she sees his name on Chris’ school forms.
The third is from Eddie, when he brings him up as a work colleague even though she suspects it’s more than that.
She just doesn’t realize how much more until the first time she sees the inside of Eddie’s house.
His house is homey, much cozier than she’d expect for a single dad who’s a first responder. She says as much and he chuckles.
“Some of this I did, but most was my Abuela.”
Ana nods and walks over to the mantle to look at the photos.
She sees a picture of a younger Christopher sitting in a high chair between Eddie and a woman who she assumes is Shannon.
“Shannon?” She asks quietly.
“Yeah. Chris, uhh, wanted to put some up.”
Ana nods and continues looking. There’s some more of Eddie and Chris, people she assumes are Eddie’s parents and his Abuela, and then there’s Buck.
Or well, she thinks it’s Buck, with how Chris has always described him. She notices one photo in particular that causes her to pause.
“Is that?”
Eddie reaches up and grabs the back of his neck, almost like he’s nervous.
“Uh, yeah. Buck built him a skateboard, we tried it out at the park.”
So, Buck built Chris a skateboard after Ana wrongly said that Chris should know his limitations.
“I’m sorry for saying what I said.”
“It’s fine, Ana.”
“It’s not.”
Eddie shrugs and Ana considers bringing it up again but she chooses not to, instead focusing on a Christmas photo that was taken at the station; Eddie, Chris, and Buck in the back smiling.
Eddie follows her eye movement and he smiles. “Buck and Athena set that up. We were on shift on Christmas and he surprised us with our families and dinner.”
“That was sweet.” Ana feels a little out of her depth here. She doesn’t think she’s ever seen this soft look on Eddie’s face before but she doesn’t want to ruin the moment.
“It was, yeah.”
They finish going through the photos, as Ana learns more about Eddie’s life.
He makes them dinner, although he sticks a pan of lasagna in the oven so she doesn’t know how much he actually cooked.
They’re about to sit on the couch, when he stops and says he’s going to grab something from his room. She follows him and notices for the first time that his room is a different sort of style than the rest of the house.
It’s all dark blues and grays with some stylish lamps and photographs on the walls.
She almost wishes she didn’t know about Buck now.
“I like your room,” She comments while he grabs a blanket from the bed. It’s a soft black velvet.
“Oh, thanks. This was mostly Buck. My room apparently looked like a boring hotel room so he’s been giving me some of his stuff.”
“That’s?”
“Nice, right?”
No. She was going to say weird. But she nods instead.
“The photo?” Ana asks as she walks closer to the print on the wall. It’s the typical California style photo, the palm tree lined street, but it’s in black and white, tasteful, where they’re usually cheesy.
“Oh, uh, Buck took that. Had it framed for my birthday last year. Said it can remind me of why I moved us here, for a fresh start.”
“Huh.” Ana can tell it’s important to him, can tell that he loves the photo and the sentiment behind it. What she can’t tell is if he loves the photo more or the person who took it.
“C’mon, let’s go watch the movie.” Eddie grabs her hand and she forgets about the room and Buck, at least for the night.
~~~
Ana meets Buck in stages.
She thought she’d meet him at school, when he came to pick up Christopher, or at the school play, where Christopher was the main character, or at the science fair, or bake sale. All events she knows Buck was there for.
But, she never does. Whether it’s by luck or design, she doesn’t know. But she wishes she had, because she meets Buck, awkwardly, while on a date with Eddie.
The one night Buck isn’t babysitting Christopher, Eddie’s Abuela watching him after Chris and Eddie’s talk, they run into Buck.
So, she meets Buck outside of an ice cream shop.
“Buck.” Eddie freezes beside her and she sees a tall man, taller than she thought with the pictures, with a cone halfway to his mouth. Buck lets out a sheepish smile and shrugs.
That’s when Ana notices the woman next to Buck, she’s pretty, her red hair is gorgeous, and Ana thinks she looks familiar.
“Taylor,” Eddie says clipped, in a voice she hasn’t heard from him since the skateboard incident.
“Eddie,” The woman, Taylor, says just as clipped.
Ana wonders what she missed.
“What are you two doing here?” Buck asks and then he holds out his non sticky hand. “Sorry, Eddie’s rude, I’m Buck. You must be Ana.”
She nods and looks between Buck and Eddie who are giving each other eyes. “Yes, hi, it’s nice to finally meet you.”
“You, too.” Buck looks at Eddie and realizes no one is going to say anything else so he looks back to Ana.
“Would you two like to join us?” Ana asks out of desperation and Eddie looks at her incredulously.
Buck looks at Taylor and she nudges him back. “We’d love to, but I have to get back to the station, I’m on nights right now. Next time? Buck and Eddie can schedule something.”
“Sure, bye Eddie. Ana.” Buck nods his head and she smiles at him. As they leave she can hear Taylor and Buck whispering to each other.
“That was awkward Buckley.”
“It’s not my fault he didn’t say anything…” Buck trails off and then they’re too far away to hear anything else.
Ana turns back to Eddie. “They seem like a cute couple.”
“Huh?”
“Buck and Taylor? You didn’t tell me he has a girlfriend.”
“He doesn’t,” Eddie says sharply. “They’re friends.”
“Oh, could’ve fooled me.”
“Why do you say that?” Eddie asks, looking at her for the first time since they ran into Buck.
“They seem close.” Ana shrugs. She doesn’t know why she has to explain anything, or why it would matter if Buck’s dating someone.
“They, uhh, dated a couple years ago, but I think they’re friends now.” Eddie finally manages.
“Ohh. Okay. Friends with benefits. I get it.”
Eddie chokes on nothing and he looks a little green.
“Edmundo, are you okay?”
“Yeah, lets get that ice cream.”
She nods and follows him into the ice cream shop, not surprised in the slightest when he orders the same flavor Buck was eating.
~~~
The second time she meets Buck is at a party in his loft. Everyone is vaccinated and Buck wanted to have everyone over before his sister, Maddie, has her baby.
Eddie introduces her to everyone; Bobby and Athena, Hen and Karen, Michael and David, Chimney and Maddie, Albert, and then Taylor.
“It’s good to see you again,” Ana says kindly as Eddie goes into the kitchen to grab them drinks. The loft is nice, modern, and looking suspiciously like Eddie’s bedroom, but she keeps that to herself.
“Hey, not until after dinner. You’re worse than Christopher!”
Ana looks over as Buck smacks Eddie’s hand with a towel as he tries to sneak cookies and Ana laughs at their antics, although no one else even so much as blinks their way.
Taylor follows her line of sight and smiles. “Oh, they’re like that. You’ll get used to it.”
Before Ana can respond she sees Taylor slide up to Buck and helps him with setting up the rest of the food.
Eddie comes back over to her with a glass of wine and Ana smiles even as she notices Eddie’s face is pinched.
Before Ana can grab it she spills some on her dress and Eddie curses.
“Shit, sorry Ana.”
“It’s okay. I’ll just grab a towel.”
“Buck, I’m taking her upstairs,” Eddie shouts to Buck and he looks over and nods.
Eddie guides her up the stairs and when she sees Buck’s bedroom, she pauses. It’s almost identical to Eddie’s in style and color. He even has the same photo hanging up on the wall. She says as much and Eddie smiles.
“Oh yeah, he came to LA for similar reasons so he had one made for his place.”
“Huh.”
“There should be Shout Wipes in the bathroom. Medicine cabinet.” Eddie points to the bathroom as he sits down on Buck’s bed like he has every right to. He probably does.
“Thanks. I’ll be just a minute.”
Ana closes the door and finds a towel, wetting the stain first and then finding the wipes. As she cleans, she notices the meds in the bathroom.
She knows she shouldn’t snoop but seeing Chris’ name on one of the bottles surprises her. It looks like Buck keeps extra medicine here for backup. She notices painkillers and Eddie’s favorite brand of shaving cream.
Feeling like she’s crossed some sort of boundary she closes the medicine cabinet and is about to head back out when she hears voices from the room.
“You spill on yourself, too?” Eddie jokes and Buck groans.
“Albert ran right into me with the dip.”
“Sucks.”
“Seriously. I can’t wait til he leaves.”
“He could go back home, you know,” Eddie says gently as Ana hears what is likely a shirt being thrown in a hamper.
“I’m not gonna do that to Maddie.” Buck moves around and then asks. “Which one? Red or blue?”
“Blue, definitely,” Eddie responds and Ana can’t see them but she has to agree, whatever blue shirt Buck puts on will bring out his eyes.
“Good, I think this red shirt is actually yours.”
Eddie laughs and Ana pauses a moment because she’s never heard that laugh before. Part fond, part exasperated. She wonders why he laughs like that with Buck.
“Makes sense.”
“Okay, come down when you’re done, I can’t have Albert setting my kitchen on fire.”
Ana can hear Buck heading down the stairs so she leaves the bathroom. Eddie stands to come closer and she accidentally blurts out what she’s thinking.
“You have clothes here?”
“Huh? Oh, well I did live here for a couple of months, but with the firehouse and everything we all probably have each other’s clothes.”
Eddie says it so nonchalantly that Ana can’t even respond as he heads towards the stairs. He turns to look at her.
“Coming?”
“Yeah, sorry.” She doesn’t think it’s nonchalant at all.
~~~
Ana meets Evan all at once.
It’s her first night staying over at Eddie’s, with Christopher at Hen’s house for a sleepover of his own.
She isn’t sure what wakes her up until she hears Eddie’s sleep rough voice.
“Evan?”
Who’s Evan?
“Yeah, no, we’ll be there.” Eddie pauses as he sits up. “Don’t worry about it, I wouldn’t miss it.”
Eddie hangs up and looks at her sheepishly.
“Is everything okay?” She asks as she sits up as well.
“Yeah, Maddie’s gone into labor, so I was gonna head to the hospital.”
Huh? Eddie isn’t family, why is he going to the hospital?
“Okay. Let’s go,” Ana says instead of asking that question.
“Are you sure? I can drop you off first.”
“No, it’s fine, we can go.”
Plus this is a way for her to assert herself as an important person in Eddie’s life.
“Thanks,” Eddie say, relieved, as he starts getting dressed.
Ana follows suit and when they finally head to the hospital Eddie’s a bundle of nerves.
“She’ll be okay,” Ana says quietly as she places a hand on his leg. He nods but he doesn’t relax.
He doesn’t relax, that is, until he sees Buck in the waiting room.
“Evan,” Eddie breathes out as they hug. Ana’s momentarily shocked, because Eddie isn’t overly affectionate with anyone other than Christopher, but he hugs Buck like it’s a normal thing.
Both of them calm down when they hug and then it hits her that Eddie called Buck ‘Evan’. She’s never heard someone call him that, but it must be his first name.
She wonders when Eddie got that privilege.
She feels like she’s intruding so she taps Eddie’s shoulder and he turns toward her.
“I’m gonna grab coffee, you two want anything?”
Buck smiles at her but Eddie answers her.
“Black with cream for me, sugar and cream for Buck.”
“Okay.” Ana walks away and turns around just to see Eddie and Buck sitting down and bringing their foreheads together, almost unconsciously.
“Oh, Ana, hey.”
Ana turns and sees Chimney.
“Chimney, hi. How’s Maddie?”
“She’s good. I’m grabbing her water. And waiting for Albert to get here. I take it you came with Eddie?”
“Yeah. Is the whole station coming?” Ana asks even though she thinks she knows the answer.
“No. Only family. Hen and Bobby said they’d stop by after she’s born,” Chimney responds and then he’s quickly turning back towards the rooms. “Tell Albert when you see him that he comes in second since he’s late.”
“Sure,” Ana says quietly as she takes the coffee back to Buck and Eddie. After they grab theirs she sits next to Eddie and sees what they’re looking at on Eddie’s phone.
“Is that Christopher?” She asks and Eddie nods.
“Yeah, I got so many photos of him when he was this age,” Eddie speaks quietly and Ana realizes that he got sent photos of Christopher because this must’ve been when he was deployed with the Army. He doesn’t talk about it much but she can tell Buck knows because Buck squeezes Eddie’s knee in support.
The biggest shocker, though, is when Eddie grabs Buck’s hand and squeezes back.
She once again feels like she’s intruding on something private, something theirs, and she doesn’t know what to do.
Luckily she doesn’t have to think too much because Albert comes running in and he and Buck start arguing over who’s going to go in first, who’s going to be the better uncle.
“Should we?” Ana gestures to them and Eddie shakes his head.
“Nah, they’re fine. This is fun for them.”
Ana nods and sits back to drink her coffee. Before she knows it, Chimney’s back in the waiting room telling them that Maddie and baby are fine and that they can all come meet her.
Buck and Eddie jump up and Ana trails behind with Albert.
“You don’t want to run in there?” She asks Albert.
“Oh I do, but I don’t want to overwhelm Maddie.”
Ana nods and keeps walking towards the room. When she gets there what she sees stops her in her tracks.
Buck is holding his niece and Eddie, well, Eddie is staring at him with so much love, adoration, and abject want that Ana feels like she’s intruding.
Eddie turns to her and holds out his phone. “Can you take a picture? I promised Chis I would show him before he meets her.”
“Sure,” Ana says like she’s underwater. Eddie’s lockscreen, a picture of Buck and Chris, barely registers.
She hears the baby's name, Kylee Danielle, after her uncles, and watches as Buck tears up, and Eddie grabs the back of his neck.
She then watches Buck pass Kylee to Eddie, and if she wasn’t so shocked she would notice the way Buck was watching him, the way Maddie was watching her, and the way Albert was videotaping everything.
She would notice that Eddie looked damn good holding a baby.
If she didn’t feel like she was intruding on a private family moment.
She doesn’t belong here. She doesn’t belong with Eddie.
She looks toward Maddie and Chimney, Maddie has kind but sad eyes looking at her and Ana knows now that she’s not who Eddie is meant to be with.
“Congratulations,” Ana says quietly. “Eddie, I’m gonna go.”
“You don’t have to go,” Eddie says as he hands Kylee to Albert.
“I do. It’s okay, I’ll call you.”
It shouldn’t surprise her when he nods and turns back to the others but it does.
She nods to Maddie and Chimney and then to Buck, who’s looking at her with an odd expression on his face.
“It was nice to see you again, Evan,” Ana says and she hears his breath catch.
She calls an Uber, waits outside for it, and when she finally gets home, she realizes she took some photos on her phone, too.
Ana looks at them, sees Eddie and Buck, looking like they belong together, and sends them to Eddie with the text ‘you have a beautiful family.’
~~~
Ana learns about Edmundo and Evan Buckley-Diaz when she gets a change of name form for one Christopher Buckley-Diaz.
Along with the name form is an official form of guardianship for Buck, declaring him Christopher’s other father.
~~~
Years later Ana learns about Ellie Buckley-Diaz when her fathers drop her off for her first day of kindergarten.
“Eddie. Buck. Hi,” Ana greets them as they come out of the front office, paperwork in hand and an excited five year old bouncing on her toes.
“Ana,” Eddie says warmly and Buck smiles. “Principal now?”
“Yeah, for a couple of years.”
“Congrats.” Eddie smiles and then turns to his daughter who pulls on his shirt sleeve.
“Daddy, I want to see my classroom.”
“I’ll take you,” Buck responds and gives Ana a smile. He squeezes Eddie’s shoulder once and then takes Ellie’s hand.
“Papa! We have to see it right now!”
“Okay, okay, little monster, we will,” Buck chuckles after her.
Ana turns back to Eddie and he smiles after them and then turns to her.
“I’m happy for you,” Ana says and Eddie looks at her curiously.
“Thank you. I am sorry about how…”
“Water under the bridge.” Ana waves her hand and points to a photo of her and her son, Milo, and Eddie smiles.
“He’s beautiful.”
“Your daughter is, too.” Ana wants to say she looks like a perfect mix between the two of them but she keeps those thoughts to herself.
They’ve never been close enough for that kind of conversation.
“Thank you. She’s certainly energetic, takes after Evan,” Eddie says this with such fondness that Ana’s thrown back to the hospital when Kylee was born, and how he looked at Buck even then.
“Nothing wrong with that.”
“Nope. Well, it was good to see you, I’m sure we’ll run into each other again.”
“Yeah, of course.” Ana smiles as he walks away, towards his family.
Ana looks at the photo of her son again.
Learning all of these things about these great people led her to her greatest joy.
She can’t be mad about that.
Excuse you...😭 The first prompt being absolutely Older Jamie having a cat that bonds with her AND Dani... Sad hours in this house, damn
She never let them have pets. There isn't much Dani Clayton regrets--isn't much point, she's found, in the endless, boundless stretch of after--but sometimes, she does regret that much. Jamie always laughed it off, said she didn’t mind--What do I need pets for? Got more than enough to keep alive, thanks very much.--but Dani knew she’d never had animals growing up. Hadn’t stood still long enough for a cat, or a rabbit, or even fish. Maybe it’s true that you can’t miss what you never had, but she can’t help wondering if Jamie’s got some little puncture, deep down, that should have been filled with a big-hearted creature who would have put her first.
And Dani, to her eternal chagrin, hadn’t been able to fill that. Hadn’t been able to allow herself that. The beast, she was sure, would someday rise, and it was bad enough to think of Jamie going without. Bad enough to imagine Jamie staring hollowly at the door, wishing for Dani’s key in the lock. What would a dog have done? What would an animal who had only ever wanted love and to be loved have thought, the day Dani inevitably left and could not return home again?
How she’d thought of it in life, anyway. Now, she’s aware of so much. Aware of time in a slipstream around her, of the immediacy of the past, the present, the future all bound up with gold-edged ribbon. She is Dani Clayton, eight years old and watching her father waste to nothing, and she is Dani Clayton, twenty-nine and watching Eddie laugh at their engagement party, and she is Dani Clayton, thirty-one and watching Jamie nervously place a moonflower on a counter. Forever, she is Dani Clayton--the lost little girl, the stubborn young woman, the beloved wife.
And Jamie? Jamie does not yet understand forever. She isn’t yet a part of the slipstream. Jamie is silver-haired, twisting that ring: a gardener and a widow, a storyteller and a scarred heart. Jamie doesn’t get it yet. Dani wishes she could tell her. Wishes she could impart the wisdoms of after while Jamie can still make use of them.
She can’t. She’s tried. Her hand on Jamie’s shoulder, night after night, she’s tried to will the knowledge into the love of her life. I’m here. I’m always right here. You have to keep living, Jamie, you have to keep going, because I will always be right here.
For years, she’s worried it’ll never sink in. For years, which are moments, which are blinks, she watches Jamie stagger through the world. Jamie, making bargains with gods and ghosts. Jamie, unable to see her, unable to let her go. Jamie, desperate and grieving and miserable. It sets an ache in Dani’s chest she hadn’t thought she could feel anymore. All time is now. How is there still pain?
But watching Jamie--watching her run baths, button into Dani’s old blouses, prop that god-forsaken door open in dozens of hotels over the years--how could it not be painful? Watching Jamie hurt is the worst of the world. Watching Jamie in her recklessness, watching solid, grounded Jamie crack open one empty mirror at a time. How could it not dig at her?
You’ll understand, Dani thinks--and it is as much a wish as a certainty. Someday. Soon. Now. Always. You’ll understand. The gardener always learns. The gardener always listens. The gardener can’t not piece it together, given enough time.
But, for Jamie, it’s slow. It’s linear. It’s one day at a time, one year after another. For Jamie, it’s another Christmas alone. Another of Dani’s birthdays celebrated in silence: a lit candle, a photo, a woman bent over her own knees as her shoulders shudder. For Jamie, time plods. Time bleeds. Time is a wound she can’t stitch shut.
And then: the first one follows her home.
It’s an accident, Dani knows--would know, even if Jamie hadn’t in recent years taken to muttering to herself in the solace of an empty room. Jamie hadn’t even realized it was happening until the scruffy little mongrel followed her off the street, into the building. It sits--curly black fur, enormous brown eyes--at her side as if waiting. As if the invitation is implicit. As if it’s already home.
“No,” Jamie says. Dani can’t help smiling; there’s something to Jamie saying no that way that has always sounded an awful lot like a wall coming down. And, sure enough, the minute the door is open, the dog saunters inside as though it has never belonged anywhere else.
A bit, Dani thinks, like Jamie after Dani had taken her hand that night.
It’s an accident, but Jamie has never been much good at turfing out creatures in need of love once they’re inside. The dog stays. Jamie calls him Iowa--it seems to have been the first thing to slip out of her mouth, and the dog cocks his head and wags his nub of a tail, and that’s that. Jamie, for the first time in her life--fifty-seven years old, paying rent on her first flat in over a decade--has a pet.
Dani thinks it’ll be good for her. A dog begs routine. A dog needs walks, and feeding at reasonable hours, and doors that are shut at night. That Iowa seems older--relaxed and certain and just a bit bull-headed--is even better. He doesn’t run ragged around the flat, knocking into tables, shattering flower pots. He simply trots along at Jamie’s side as though he’s always been there.
It would be enough, Dani senses, if it were just the two of them. Jamie has always thrived in the caring for other living things. Jamie is happiest when given a task, a hands-on approach to the world. The dog, she may not have sought out--but the dog is hers, and she is his, and there is a kind of salvation in unexpected love.
The next one is even more of an accident, if that’s possible. A huge bear of a beast, shaggy and stained and wet-eyed. Jamie finds it limping through the streets of London with mud caked on its belly and head hung low. No tags. No marker of any kind. Iowa nudges her around the knees, looking at the mountainous creature, and Jamie sighs.
“No,” she tells him, but Dani--and Iowa--can tell it’s a lie even before the syllable is completely formed. Jamie is already reaching a cautious hand toward the trembling dog. It whimpers. It presses its nose to her outstretched fingers. Iowa’s tail wags.
London is, when given a proper bath and brushing, quite beautiful. Her limp is temporary; her attachment to Iowa in particular, eternal. The first night, with the dog resting her chin on Jamie’s knee, stretched across a threadbare couch, Jamie says, “Found it on the street. Wanted to save it” in a tone that suggests she’s speaking from a dream. Her jaw clenches. Her eyes close. Dani has never wanted so badly to break her own rules.
Neither dog seems to notice her. She’s relieved, in a way; Jamie’s nightly ritual never wavers, save for reluctantly closing the door--as with so many features of Jamie’s world, the safety of others precludes her own--and if the dogs began barking at shadows, it’s likely Jamie would never sleep again. Anyway, these aren’t her pets. Jamie has saved them--or they’ve saved her--and that bond is one Dani can’t muster envy for.
Two dogs and a home full of plants. It doesn’t bring the light back into Jamie’s eyes, not all the way, but she walks a bit taller these days. Fidgets a little less. Cries often enough, but now there are soft muzzles to press her face against when she does. It’s better, Dani can see. Nothing will ever be what it was, but better is sometimes the most you can ask for in life.
The third dog is less an accident, more a surprise. A two-for-one deal, to a degree; Jamie has wandered into the local shelter, where she’s taken to volunteering on weekends, and come across a sharp-toothed, snappish shepherd no one else seems able to touch. He’s been through the ringer, the other volunteers say, sage and exhausted by similar experiences. Abuse, probably. Neglect, probably. Only three or four, but with enough mistrust baked into his bones for three lifetimes.
“He doesn’t like men,” one weary-looking young man says. “Or people who move too fast. Or multiple people coming at him all at once.”
“Can relate,” Jamie says, her mouth quirking. Dani laughs. “What does he like?”
The volunteer points. There, in the back of the shepherd’s cage, is a lithe black shadow. It blinks lantern-gold eyes up at Jamie, tail twitching, and makes a rasping sound that might, in another animal, have been a proper meow.
“Came in same-day. Can’t separate ‘em. Not sure how we’re going to get them adopted.”
Jamie rubs her jaw, left hand hesitating on the way down. She touches the tip of a finger to her ring and heaves a sigh.
“Fuck.”
She calls the shepherd Paris, and though it takes time--several patient weeks, Jamie turning up at regular hours each day to coax the nervy animal into growing accustomed to her smell, her voice, her easy-slow method of moving--by the time the papers are signed, there’s no changing it. The flat is now overrun, dog hair clinging to every surface, water bowls standing sentry in the kitchen. The cat’s litterbox goes into the bathroom, Jamie frowning a little as she surveys the new landscape of her home.
“You,” she tells the cat. “Best behavior. Anything goes crash in the night, it’s your hide.”
The cat preens, rubbing around her ankles. Jamie sighs.
“Christ, if she could see me now.”
Something tugs deep in Dani’s chest--pride, and sorrow, and love of the most fervent kind. The dogs--proud Iowa, sweet London, Paris keeping a careful distance from both--are draped around the living room. Jamie’s home is theirs. Jamie is their home. Dani knows so well what that feels like. They’re lucky creatures.
The dogs are sleepy, warm, happy. The cat--
The cat is looking at her.
Dani frowns. She’s imagining things. Must be. She’s been drifting around Jamie--traveling the world at her side, resting a hand over her shoulder each night--for years and years. Nothing has ever looked at her. Nothing has ever seen her. Not Jamie. Not the dogs. Nothing.
But this cat. This cat, with its huge golden eyes, black ears twitching, is staring right at her.
“Huh,” says Dani.
“Mrow,” says the cat.
“C’mon,” says Jamie, oblivious to it all. “Supper.”
Days go by before Jamie properly names the cat. She strokes her fingers gently over the creature’s back, tracing the length of spine and tail, and frowns each night. “Who,” she says quietly, “are you?”
The cat butts against her palm, rumbling deep in its chest. Jamie makes a soft pensive sound.
“Vermont?” She shakes her head. “Nah. You’re different, mm? Somethin’ else.”
The cat chirps, turning its head, gazing into the corner where Dani is leaning. Dani raises a hand, wiggling her fingers experimentally. The cat makes the same noise a second time, as if in greeting. Jamie raises an eyebrow.
“Eerie little beast. Never thought I was much for cats, y’know. But here you are.”
Never thought you were much for people, either, Dani thinks with amusement. Didn’t stop you drawing us all close.
In the end, Jamie begins calling the cat Gremlin. A nickname, offered in warning, at first--any time she moved too near a plant, or experimentally sniffed at London’s paws while she slept, Jamie would quietly intone, “Oi. Gremlin. Back it up.” It is, in its own way, reminiscent of the way Poppins had clung to their first year--an accidental gift cherished by its recipient.
Dani can tell the cat--rumbling her pleasure each time the name is used--agrees. Plants are left to their devices. The dogs seem strangely hard-wired to accept the cat as their queen. Jamie shakes her head.
“So be it, suppose.”
It’s good, watching her build a routine around them. Dani hasn’t seen her stand this still since Vermont, but the dogs love the nearby park, and Gremlin sunbathes happily on the balcony, and Jamie seems, for the first time in years, to be fostering a simple sort of peace. The baths still fill, and her eyes are still too often far-away, but the door is shut. The dogs stretch out around the living room--which doubles, as all living spaces have for a decade, as Jamie’s bedroom--as if warding off intruders. The cat sets up shop on the back of the couch, peering down with regal bearing as Jamie slowly dozes off. And, when Dani inevitably presses a hand toward Jamie’s shoulder the first night--
“Hey,” she says, very quietly. “What’s this?”
Gremlin makes a raspy sort of sound, nudging toward her. She does not make contact, exactly; Dani hasn’t quite figured out touch, in all this time. She hasn’t had much cause. Touching Jamie is a dream, an ache she has carried since her death that reminds her forcefully of before, at Bly, when she hadn’t thought herself worthy or capable. Touching Jamie is the one part of all of this that still feels linear--I could touch her in life, and I can touch her when she gets here, but in between...in between...
In between, Dani can reach toward her. Can brush the space around her shoulder. Can be here, with her, in every way except directly, because some things are still unfair. Like Jamie feeling alone, even with Dani right here. Like Dani being able to always-someday-soon-now except for where it matters most.
She is in the kitchen at Bly, and she is in their bedroom in Vermont, and she is 1976, 1988, 1999, and she is--
Almost petting this cat. Almost. Her brows come sharply together, her heart thudding.
“How?” she asks Gremlin, who seems not to mind. The cat presses in a bit harder, as if to say, Keep trying. Dani sees no reason not to obey.
Each night, the animals spread around Jamie in a protective circle: Paris at the door, London beside the couch, Iowa nestled between Jamie’s knees. Each night, Gremlin sets up on the back of the couch, watching Jamie’s breath even out, and turns those enormous eyes on Dani.
And, little by little...
She can’t pick the cat up, or close her hands gently around her face. She can’t make the kind of contact she would as a living woman--matter pressing against matter, mass imposing upon mass. But her fingers are unequivocally brushing thick black fur. She can feel the cat’s breath on her skin. This is true, and real, and solid--and the cat, looking entirely too proud of herself, can plainly feel her in return.
Dani Clayton has been dead for over a decade, and Dani Clayton has been here all the same ever since, but for the first time, Dani Clayton is touching. Dani Clayton is feeling, not simply in the ether of memory, but now.
She holds a breath as Gremlin rubs against her fingers. She’s still holding it when, slowly, carefully, she reaches down to the couch.
Her fingers brush silver. Jamie’s brow knits, her lips parting. She’s always looked like this in sleep--as though some part of her just isn’t willing to shut down all the way. She’s always looked as though some part of her needs to be on guard.
Now, with Dani’s fingers threading through her hair, that tight, armored expression gives a little bit. Just a little.
In the morning, Dani wonders if Jamie’s eyes will flicker open and she will, finally, see her. There’s a breathless kind of terror to the idea--that she’s gone this long keeping Jamie safe from diving permanently into her own grief, only for a cat to undo all of that work. But, when the sun rises and Jamie rises with it, she gives no sign at all. No sign that she can see Dani, standing beside the couch, though Gremlin is staring right at her. No sign that anything has changed.
Except--except her hand, lingering at the crown of her head. Her fingers, sifting almost absently through her hair, tracing the same path Dani had been unable to pull away from. Her brow furrows. Her head shakes.
“Breakfast?” she asks the animals in various stages of waking around her. Gremlin stretches, back leg popped high, and hops down. Dani doesn’t think she’s imagining the cat’s easy swagger as she makes her way to the kitchen.
It isn’t the life she’d imagined for Jamie, laying awake and watching her sleep. Not the life she’d wanted for Jamie, hoping as hard as she could that the beast would remain always at bay. She’d never looked at Jamie and expected dogs to follow her home, hurt and lonely and in need of someone to show them the world can be kind. She hadn’t expected a cat with a swishing tail and a regal demeanor, standing sentinel. Jamie’s life has never quite veered in this direction before.
But: watching her now, as she slips a bit of apple to each dog, strokes the cat, leans her hip against the counter as she waits for the water to boil, Dani has to admit it suits her. Jamie has always been at her best giving love, even against her own better judgement.
In time, Dani’s sense of soon-someday-now-always will broaden to encompass Jamie, as well. The years will press on. There will come a time where the brush of Dani’s hand across her sleeping cheek--the phantom press of Dani soothing Jamie out of a particularly bad nightmare--will evolve into the intertwining of finally standing on the same plane again. It is the natural order of things. Organic. Dani, standing outside of time, is patient.
And Jamie: is slowly building herself a home again. Jamie is waking to take dogs out, and brushing down Gremlin’s ink-black fur, and looking more present in the world than she’s been in a decade. Jamie, staring into the mirror each night with Paris pressed resolutely against her legs, Iowa hovering in the doorway, almost smiles.
“Someday,” she murmurs, “I am going to have some stories for you.”
Dani smiles. She knows, of course--outside of time, it’s hard not to know--but she can’t wait to hear them, all the same. Stories always land a little differently, coming out of Jamie’s mouth.
Soon, she promises silently. Someday. Always. Now.
In the meantime, Jamie reaches for a bundle of leashes, giving Gremlin a brief scratch between the ears. She pauses at the door, glancing back over her shoulder, her eyes drifting over Dani without notice. At her side, heading the pack, Iowa gives a small bark to confirm his readiness.
“Right,” says Jamie softly. “Back soon.”
It is the first time in too long Dani has been sure she will be okay.
