Hello again, between the new fic and your thoughts on it, I had more to ask (hopefully it isn't annoying, I'm just veeeery in love with this au)

The idea of sonic fighting shadow only to falter at the last second had me almost sobbing, you really can feel his exhaustion and I will probably go to the author blog to express how in love I am with it, but I wanted to pick your brain about the whole ordeal. What do you think it would take for shadow to be fully conscious in his Hyper state or is it simply impossible? I thought it imposible until this fic put the idea out there and the angst is just too good. Do you see and end to the madness? I see very little options in the horizon aside from killing shadow, but do you see another way out? If both live getting out of those forms, how would they deal with it? I can't see neither coping well with the aftermath.

I'll leave it at that to not be too annoying about it, but just know that this whole au has me frothing at the mouth.

Now to answer your question, I think I have to explain my whole view of why Hyper form is different for Sonic and Shadow. The main reason is Sonic being so used to getting so many forms, he doesn’t really get affected by it.

Shadow is not Sonic, he’s stuck in the past, he struggles to adapt and move on, he suffers most of the time, and Hyper form is basically the first time he has felt pure happiness. I don’t see him gaining consciousness at all until he goes back to normal.

And not even that will be because he wants to, but because he’s FORCED to go back to normal.

But, I’m really open to any interpretation of it honestly, not all things have to be the way I say it, yes i’m the one with the idea but everyone can take it and give it their own interpretation of it, I’m happy to see different perspectives!

Mine is that Hyper Shadow while he may gain consciousness for a few minutes, at the end he will go back to his delusional state one way or another. You cannot “escape” the effects of a drug even if you want to.

And yes, the aftermath of this will hit hard, specially to Shadow, but that’s another story 😭

Thank you very much for the kind words. I try to keep things in check and base my opinions on solid facts. Not 'FACTS', mind you, but as much as possible publicly available documents and data. The not so public things (meaning you have to pay for those, which indicates a different confidentiality level) I keep for myself, because I am not an idiot: in no way, however, do they contradict the rest, in which case I would immediately recalibrate my analysis. I also know very well that confirmation bias has often been mentioned as a sad excuse across the street, when things didn't look good for them. That is wishful bullshit, because no legal professional would prostitute their skill in order to shoehorn reality into a given scenario. Papers speak by themselves - there is no need to stretch the information they contain, but yes, you can (and you should) interpret them. Therefore, all I did was to translate in everyday English what is often not accessible to everyone and wrap it in a bit of context. This is, apparently, a mortal sin and I know it is the main reason I am being hated with a passion, by many.

All of the above just to stress the fact that I am not easily swayed by sensational pics, tidbits and gifs. I may sound like a damned party pooper to you, but I prefer to patiently follow what I think is interesting, rather than childishly bounce on my chair every single time people see what they really saw a thousand times before, in eleven years of saga. Nor do I need to have confirmation four times a day of something that simply exists, irrespective of the fact I know about it or not.

I will say only this: C definitely looks as she DGAF about the whole circus anymore. It started with the piggyback pics, on March 25, continued with the Taylor Swift concert (the only time I allowed myself to oooh and awww at 4 AM) and is now seemingly confirmed by these new promo pics and interviews. Yes, they screeched 'it's fan service', but as far as I know nobody forced C to behave the way she clearly intends to show everyone. It's Season 7B, for Christ's sake, the script is hogwash and the acting is not so good (yes, I will need a rewatch to write something decently balanced about it), the audience numbers are dwindling and OL is on its way out. Hard truths, no matter how you turn it: why would she open again the door to 'speculation' (ah, but what's in a word?), especially considering this cesspool of a fandom's obsessive-compulsive collective behavior?

Thank you!! It’s not often that you get gratitude for being critical of a character (as opposed to, like, outright praising them) so this ask genuinely took me by surprise.

I find that Malleus is one of those characters that’s quite difficult to talk about. Because he’s so well-liked by English-speaking fans (fandom-run polls consistently show that he is liked by at least 50% of responders), his presence has become almost stifling… which formed a counterculture (ie hate) against him. In any case, whether you think negatively or positively of Malleus (or feel nothing at all for him), that can really color how his words and actions are perceived. But sometimes it feels like you can’t even talk about him without walking on eggshells. People tend to feel so strongly about Malleus and you never know how they’ll react to the thoughts you express.

It should be recognized that both extremes will blindside you. The most ardent Malleus lovers will make everything about him or enable and defend him to the bitter end even when Malleus has done reprehensible things. The most passionate Malleus haters will nitpick what are just normal or innocent actions as The Worst Possible Thing Ever or claim he’s aggressive all the time. Neither truly compasses who he actually is.

As I’ve mentioned in other posts, I’d like to think that even though I dislike the guy, I try and give him a fair shot 😅 Some of the issues I have with him are no fault of his own and result from the narrative’s failure to capitalize on his intrigue or the nature of gacha games and the main story being limited. Other issues I’ll admit are completely my own annoyances and gripes (like how I take issue with OP characters with few setbacks, how I don’t like characters that try to force their views onto others, or how I have had bad Malleus-related fandom experiences). Then there’s just the objective truths, like how Malleus is extremely arrogant but is rarely called out for it or rarely faces consequences for his actions in-universe (or from the fandom). He’s still a complex character, just… not one I enjoy.

Looking back on it 💦 I almost can’t believe I have like… 8 or 9 posts detailing my frustrations with Malleus, and each of them expressing significantly different issues from the last. I’m glad that this blog can be a space for me to discuss my thoughts and opinions without angry fans of X or Y character coming at me 😭 I unfortunately can’t say that this is always the case… But for the most part, it’s pretty peaceful here and I really appreciate that!

I’ll close this post off by shouting out the Malleus fans who don’t take it personally when someone else says they’re not a fan of their blorbo. The Malleus fans who are willing to come to the table and listen, the Malleus fans who acknowledge his imperfections and faults, the Malleus fans who accept that others can choose to dislike him for any reason, whether big or small, and don’t push for “correcting” the “wrong” opinion. I know that it sounds like such a low bar to clear, but trust me when I say I’ve witnessed and experienced much worse behaviors (from a loud minority of Malleus fans) and would not wish that upon anyone.

Alright lads, time for the Persona 2 fandom’s occasional reminder that Jun isn’t a submissive bottom. (INHALES DEEPLY)

Jun in canon is a very capable, powerful, and intelligent person. Not only did he lead a whole entire CULT for who knows how long, but he also could beat the hell out of Tatsuya and the gang with no issue (he deadass held Tatsyua by the neck with ONE FUCKING HAND.) In terms of personality, there’s this amazing post by “maritessa” that translates some of Jun’s Japanese dialogue and reveals that not only is his speaking style more casual in Japanese compared to English (he isn’t like Yusuke in P5 where he speaks like a sickly Victorian child. Not knocking on Yusuke tho love that artistic/autistic fucker) but he’s also more authoritative, repeatedly telling the gang to stay on track and where to go next. I remember “maritessa” saying that Jun felt like the leader of the P2 gang in Innocent Sin instead of Tatsuya and I wholeheartedly agree with that.(Kind reminder that Tatsuya REALLY doesn’t know what he’s doing half the time). His voice is very deep in Japanese too which is very cool (Bryce did a good job as Jun in English too)

However despite Jun’s clear strength, intelligence, and leadership skills, he’s always headcanoned as this submissive, wimpy brat who’s only there to fawn over Tatsuya. Now, WHY has Jun been twisted into this borderline unrecognizable version of himself? Well for a number of reasons actually: he’s short, he’s gay, he has feminine looks and hobbies, has cried at least twice, y’know, completely ASININE REASONS. The amount of fics I have read where he’s this weak, overemotional BITCH that squeals every time Tatsuya so much as BREATHES or has Jun bursting into tears at the sight of a hat dropping pisses me off. And you know damn well that Jun’s always the bottom in any intimate scenes. Why? Besides the previous stated “reasons” it’s pretty simple: Tatsuya is TALLER. That’s it. Ain’t. That. Fucking. L O V E L Y.

Jun’s main shtick is he is a walking contradiction. His soft and feminine appearance/interests contradicts his authoritative, calculating, and sometimes cold personality. He’s loyal but cruel, kind but vicious, selfish yet selfless. The guy has literally gotten into fights repeatedly because he actively waits for the bullies to approach him FIRST out of underestimation before he kicks the shit out of them. Hell, that’s how Jun got into Kasugayama High in Innocent Sin IN THE FIRST PLACE. It’s a DELINQUENT SCHOOL afterall. (Meanwhile with Tatsuya he always tries to AVOID school fights after accidentally hurting a few people with his Persona, instead preferring to run away when someone challenges him) 

Jun is perfectly capable of throwing hands on his own without needing his precious Tacchi like everyone thinks he does, but little do they know that’s what he WANTS. Jun WANTS people to underestimate him so he could get an advantage and turn the tables. His “Fawn” action when talking to demons? An act. Jun knows that if he acts weak, some demons will lessen their guard around him. He is a MASTER manipulator. In fact, Jun’s so good at putting up a harmless facade that it tricks the FANS themselves, which both fascinates AND bothers me because on one hand: his talents knows no bounds, but on the other hand: I have to scroll through hundreds of people calling him a frail baby kitten even though in reality he has killed an unknown amount of people and especially started The Rapture.

In conclusion, Jun is a good character, is ACTUALLY the one who’s wearing the pants in the relationship instead of Tatsuya, and I am completely normal about the character.

Okay okay silly idea why Wukong choose pink as his hair colour. Sure he could say that it's because he like peaches but what if there is other reason?

Well well. I dont really know how to start, my last character analysis was in 2023 after I read No Longer Human– and compared it to Dazai Osamu from BSD. Amyways, its published on a lost blog

My main reasons for analyzing one of the most hated characters in the entire anime universe; aka Dino Golzine, is driven by his relationship with Ash, his "striking" personality ?? and because if someone was going to be terribly evil but have a pet cat and take care of flowers, I had to analyze it (seriously, I thought that no one who appreciates the beauty of flowers could be that evil...).

Anyway, the last thing I'll say is I apologize for my English and my clumsy expressions even though I've been speaking it for...my whole life., jokes on me.

This analysis will focus on the events that took place in the manga, so we're talking about the 1980s and what was done before it.

—Taking context—

Okay so, It is said that Dino is a man well into his late 50s or early 60s, so, he was probably born in the middles 1920s—in Corsica (France).

People of this generation lived through an economic crisis at a very young age (1929), they lived through the rise of fascism and Nazism and went to World War II in their 20s, only to find themselves after the war facing another very long and horrible economic crisis. This generation also experienced technological progress and contributed to the restoration of Europe and the United States after the war, in addition to being characterized for having remained resilient and having overcome these difficulties in their younger years.

So in relation to Dino, I think he was a person who lived this first hand, whether participating as a soldier or in the mafia from a very young age, it's not like there's any way to escape a world war. A generation raised on violence, hopelessness, discipline, and patriotism can have a profound impact on people.

It is known that many Europeans immigrated to the United States because it was an emerging world power, so that is a good reason why Dino ended up there at God knows what point in his life.

—The "Mafia" thing—

No mafia is the same, especially the Unione Corse It is not known for fitting the cinematic stereotypes of Italian mafias (to begin with, they are French), and this is clearly reflected in the manga.

I think it's a bit bold to say that the criminal organization in manga and anime is unrealistic just because it's not stereotypical.

Dino has no family, no wife, no children, he is homosexual, which was not well regarded at that time, but I think he did not inherit his wealth but made it himself from scratch, at least that's how he appears when he is seen as a lonely man who wants to leave his entire empire to Ash, and he talks about everything as if it were his and only his.

—Personality—

Dino is creepy, it's what the whole fandom wants to read.

But seriously, he is terribly polite and always well dressed, with good manners and expressions that are sometimes... outdated? He seems to value the neatness and aesthetics of things and people alike, not just in appearance, but in essence. This can be seen in how his mansion is externally set in 18th century France, and each room has a different "theme" (I read an analysis of this here), also in the way he seems to appreciate the different types of alcohol he consumes daily, classical music and pieces of art. I dare say there are several references to his fondness for boys in the sculptures in the hallways and even the main fountain. I forgot to mention the topic of flowers and plants, because in one scene of the manga you can see that he really cares about their well-being, and not just for monetary purposes. I see him as the guy who plays classical music for his flowers or tries to keep his bonsai from getting sad or something like that, fr.

In any case, he has a strange mania of wanting to make economic profit from absolutely everything, even everything mentioned above, it seems to have indirect economic purposes, classical capitalism.

He values providing a good image, having a certain status, and deeply hates being seen bad in front of important people, I think this is very clear when the Unione decides to replace him and he feels so powerless that even though he tries to contain himself, he ends up killing his replacement.

He becomes deeply bothered and driven mad by the feeling that he can't, that he doesn't control everything. He is sometimes seen letting himself be carried away by his obsessions and anticipation of desires for power, both status and possession over Ash.

Note* He probably drinks and smokes so much not only for pleasure but because of the stress that comes with power and these kinds of...mishaps. Wine and tobacco have a similar effect of making someone feel calm and happier.

All of this would mean losing the control he once had, and that's an extremely hard thing to deal with.

Something that I think is underrated in the fandom is the concept of the cattle children making friends their age in the human world post-canon. I don't know if I'd say underrated? If asked I think a lot of fans are open to it/enjoy it, myself included.

Underexplored though, definitely, but I think this stems from how hard it can be to sell original characters in fanfiction the closer in proximity and importance they are to the main characters. This is also part of the reason I believe Matilda is Norman's biological mother and Sienna is Emma's biological mother are decently popular theories: it offers people the convenience of already having a minor canon character with a design and foundations of personality and history that can be referenced with greater recognition among other fans to project headcanons onto.

But if we're just talking about alluding to it happening in the background, one of my favorite Rayemma fanfics, She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not by groundedreamer, touches upon it in almost the exact way you describe:

This is very broad and we could be here for a while, but all the cattle children aware of the truth before crossing over to the human world, including the Grace Field children who didn't escape but saw Isabella being murdered, have PTSD. This initially makes it rough for the older children to accept help from healthcare professionals and to navigate the best way to handle things for the younger children.

ahhhhh so i actually have a lot of thoughts about this and i'm happy to share!! click under the cut

to start off, this is just my opinion, so please remember that doesn't mean i'm right, it's just my thoughts and my own personal boundaries and comfort around nsfw content. i generally think cancelling people in fandom spaces is bad, unless someone has done something seriously awful along the lines of racism, homophobia, terf-language, etc. etc. as fandom should be a safe space for all / that kind of behavior shouldn't be tolerated anywhere BUT i also don't love the thread you've described and i'll explain why.

something you might have already picked up on if you follow me on twitter is that for all the smut i write and for all the nsfw imagining i do here, i don't often tweet in an overtly nsfw or sexual manner on my public twitter outside of innuendos. (i.e. you'll catch me throwing out a suggestive 🧎🏻‍♀️emoji but you won't see me be like 'when will he let me put his cock down my throat' etc. etc.)

i personally get a bit of the ick when people aggressively talk on main about the things they want an idol to do to them / things they want to do with an idol, regardless of censored names (i.e. yh instead of yunho). that doesn't mean it's a bad thing, i just don't necessarily want to read someone's unfiltered thoughts about a celebrity that way..... it makes me personally a little uncomfortable, i prefer engaging like that privately with friends or occasionally screaming on my priv but even there i'm fairly tame.

what you've described falls somewhere like....... almost towards the far end, and while i don't personally think anyone should get cancelled or dragged for it, if i saw it on my timeline i would probably not retweet it and possibly choose to block or mute that person based on how graphic the thread was. to me, while it's 'fair game' as long as none of their names are spelled out in full as to show up in searches, for me personally it feels a bit objectifying in a way that i wouldn't share on twitter (i'll explain my feelings on twt v. tumblr in a second). this to me falls into almost the same vein as sharing bulge photos and speculating about size, again.... a thing i don't think someone should be cancelled for, but a thing in my opinion that is best left to DMs with friends or tumblr if it's going to be a public post.

to your point, atz are grown men. they're also not chronically online like the fans, they're too fucking busy, and they've probably learned not to google themselves too hard. (even if they are.... they primarily speak korean, they're probably naver searching the hangul of their names not their english nicknames on twitter....) - so for that reason, it's bizarre to me why sfw fans need to act like they're saving the members from something horrific if there are fans who say whatever explicit thing.... like i hate to break it to atiny but..... a ton of these songs are about sex, include sexual choreography, and that's fully intentional to make fans WANT to fuck them and buy albums. that's just what it is.

that being said, for me personally, i do see a difference between the levels. i feel like if i were to break it down from least to most nsfw on twitter (in my eyes) it would go something like this:

sfw puritans who think the boys are children

sfw puritans who think the boys are adults but need protection

sfw / soft stans who just don't want to engage or post sexual content

neutral fans / casual fans

sfw stans who like or engage with nsfw content privately or in posts they like but don't rt/reblog this for their own feeds

nsfw stans or content creators who aren't too sexual in their tweets, but might do things like write fic or draw fanart and then link out to that work on a different platform than twitter (i fall here i think)

nsfw shippers or rpf content creators who post things like imagines/threads/scenarios/fan art with all names censored and official accounts blocked

nsfw threads of things like bulges/objectifying pictures with commentary (i would place the idea of a tip color thread here)

nsfw commentary that is super overt and direct like "i want *idol* to do xyz graphic thing* (this for me is more of a 'you know it when you see it' kind of thing, and usually it's just that someone's whole account is basically seriously horny and detailed about it)

nsfw accounts sharing actual pornography and attaching member names to it (even if censored)

nsfw accounts using member names in full or even sometimes tagging official accounts (this is the only one i think is like legitimately bad and not okay, and i fully support people trying to get these accounts reported and removed)

where you fall in that gradient as a content creator or content engager in this fandom is completely your choice, and i don't think (with the exception of the last bullet) you should get cancelled for that alone.

i personally have my boundaries where twitter is concerned because of the following reasons:

twitter is something that the members have used or potentially do use, and if they are ever looking up their english names my account could show up. i'd rather the top tweets there be more delulu / fun / complimentary of them versus graphic sexual content.

i don't really trust elon's internet to properly filter / display content / protect content, and it just makes me feel uneasy

more sfw accounts are on twitter versus tumblr, i'm not really comfortable taking the risk of sfw accounts getting mad at me / doxxing me / canceling me, so i just keep that kind of content on tumblr where it's better hidden and better received.

tumblr provides settings that help you limit your posts from showing on google searches, so does ao3. if yunho is finding my tumblr he did some serious key word searches and that's on him.

and if yunho ever finds my ao3????? that's between him and god, he went looking.

long story short........... i have complex feelings about nsfw content even though i consider myself a nsfw content creator. at the end of the day, i don't think people should be getting cancelled, but i think it's probably smart for nsfw folks to make sure they're tweeting in ways that will skirt the sfw fans or keep that kind of content to a platform like tumblr where you're way less likely to be harassed.

for me, the tip color thread is a little too far for things i would post on twitter, but sfw accounts need to learn to mute/block and move on. and if it's a situation where they're getting cancelled for saying that in a group chat..... well..... my only advice is be careful about giant group chats and how far you go in those until you're really close with the people in there, and even then, i would say be cautious if it's a large group.

Why I think Nagikae is canon

This post contains Spoilers for Assassination Classroom. And finally this MY opinion so if you disagree that's fine in the end opinions are subjective.

If saw/read AC or been in the fandom then you would know that Nagikae (Nagisa x Kayano) is one of the most popular ships and that the canonicity is left up to debate on if it or isn't canon. Today I'm going to talk about why I think Nagikae is canon with evidence and disproving evidence against it so let's begin.

Against it:

First let's start with the easiest one to disprove that being the 'afterthought' line, basically in english translation of the final chapter Kayano said that Nagisa thinks of her as an aftherthought. Now this is actually simp to disprove since that was said in the english version and not in the original japanese version

As you can see Kayano just said that she isn't in Nagisa's field of vision meaning that Nagisa is just focused on being a teacher and not to meantion why would Hara just ask about Nagisa you don't ask about what's going between you and your crush. While I could just stop it right here there's also something I want to meantion, if you look at what afterthought means it says 'something that is thought of or added later' whitch if we go by the linensaid by the english version (whitch isn't canon since the japanese is the original) it's still ambiguous since it doesn't mean that there aren't meating each other. Now the second thing is this panel

Some people belive that this is Nagisa and Kayano and to that I say... we don't see the faces, given the lack of context and the fact you can see Karma it's possible that two people holding hands aren't Nagisa and Kayano but rather Karma and Okuda and as for my reasoning like I said you can see Karma and also this

So yeah that basically it from what I've seen so now let's get into the main topic.

Why Nagiake is canon

Now first of we know that Nagisa and Kayano are seeing each other as we see in Nagisa's album that Nagisa and Kayano were meeting each other until they were interupted by Nagisa's students

Second is Korotan D whitch is a collection of books that were stated to be canon by Yusei Matsui, in one of the storys Kayano is working as an actress and during one of the scenes Kayano was suppose to kiss but turn back and we see Nagisa being jealouse and he's true feelings towards Kayano if you want to read it you read the rough english translation by @blazardragon and also we see Nagisa and Kayano dancing

And finally there are the ship teases and I meam there a lot despite what people think there are ship teases

Like how Kayano's reaction when B**ch-sensei kissed Nagisa and speaking of kissing Nagisa litereally kissed Kayano and not to meantion the other ship teases I showed like Nagisa and Kayano dancing. The point is Matsui gave us a lot of ship teases between Nagisa and Kayano with them even kissing and with Korotan D revealing Nagisa's feelings to me it makes the most sence that Nagikae is canon.

My final thoughts:

If you disagree that's fine more power to you because in the end opinions are subjective so don't take things personale. For me persoanlly I think Nagiake is canon due to the ship teases and other stuf like the album and Korotan I 100% belive Nagikae to be canon.

I feel like the overwhelming amount of hockey romance is also part of the far right wave. I’m not sure I can exactly justify why, but I feel it.

I don't read a lot of hockey romance, and I tend to prefer queer hockey romance when I do (based off what I have read) but I do think there's a reason why hockey romance is biiiig in romance novels when sports that probably bring in more money (soccer, basketball) and/or are bigger in the country wherein the books are often set (NFL for US-set books). Hockey is one of the whiter sports out there. That's just... the way it's gone.

And as someone who doesn't follow hockey but does enjoy watching it (and would follow it, probably, if I had people to watch it with) I do find it like, romance-compatible. The dudes are usually scruffier, they are Big, the sport kind of allows fighting to a degree that you don't see with the others (even NFL players get more heavily penalized for fighting than hockey players). Like, I get it.

I also feel that because hockey is less Known for a lot of readers, it's easier to romanticize. I say this, thinking of all the women on BookTok who felt Super Special about certain players (until things blew up). While hockey obviously has a massive fanbase, at least in the US (which is again where a lot of books are based and where a lot of romance's English-speaking readership resides, for better or worse) it's not as well-covered as the NFL or NBA by a long shot. I think we're made much more aware of those players' scandals, their bad personalities, the weird (bad) cultures within those sports. And when you and your entire group of friends don't know shit about the sport, you can sorta slide in and live in your romanticized bubble.

Whereas.... to use a recent example of a certain fandom suddenly caring about football because their girl started dating a man in the twilight of his career... and being baffled as to why a certain team got clobbered at a certain event... when if you knew anything about the sport you'd know the surprise was less that they flopped and more that the refs didn't save them like they had all season... When you're outside your "bubble" and interacting with a sport, it becomes less fun because legit fans call you on sounding like a dumbass lol. That is how sports work. It is actually very nerdy.

But the whiteness is a HUGE part of it too. Probably the main part for a lot of readers.

Which doesn't mean people can't enjoy their hockey books. I have enjoyed some! Heated Rivalry and The Long Game are two all-time favorite romances for me. Though of course, they're about an interracial relationship between two men, so I don't know that they're quite the same.

(FWIW, anyone who wants to read a hockey romance featuring 0 white people should check out Played by Naima Simone.)

However, we can enjoy things and also analyze them. Romance reflects society, and society is Real Weird at the moment.

I don't think Isle of Dogs is offensive

I'll try to offer my reason as to why.

My letterboxd review here. I touched on it briefly

The Japanese characters are literally ordinary Japanese people, not stereotyped.

They look like people you'll see out in the streets while walking. I love how unique they all look, there's life to them.

Why is the language unsubtitled? It's so that you're in the dog's perspective as the film is mostly about the dogs which are almost like dogs except it's rendered to be english (or whatever language in dubbing) the experience of not a language barrier is one all of us can relate to, we have to rely on body language as our second option which is what Anderson encourages with us (the viewer)

IMO the arguement of "no subtitles=dehumanising" is problematic in itself when you think about it. Implying that you have to have english to relate to the character otherwise they're not human enough.

They do not have yellow skin. This is color grading, same thing with Moonrise Kingdom. A lot of shots look like golden hour. Wes Anderson loves warm tones, there's no nefarious reason behind it.

Let's take our scientist husband for example. One image depicts a shot in the film you notice that even when there's white like in the sky or his labcoat. It still looks warm

Atari because he went to the Island and avoided attempted rescuers several times, and all while being injured (the propeller clutch stuck on his head and also his limp) he presented to his corrupt mayor uncle about how innocent dogs are and that this is not the way to go which worked. Unlike Tracy's idea.

My interpretation is that Tracy likely represents the depiction of the american character in Japanese media. They are often the loudest and obnoxious.

The film was influenced by the films of Akira Kurosawa, Yasujiro Ozu and films such as Evangelion, 101 Dalmatians and Rankin Bass films. I see it as a homage to not only the listed from above but also Japanese cinema, it's a love letter of the cinema and appreciation of the culture while also being a cautionary tale of fascism and authoritarian regime. A parallel to another Wes Anderson film called The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Set in a fictional place called Zubrowka and is a homage to european cinema while also being a cautionary tale of fascism despite the film being in pink

You could apply all of the IOD discourse but rebrand it to Grand Budapest Hotel instead and claim that the film demonises eastern european/glorifies fascism, and the film is appropriation and whatever whatever.. both films tell you that innocent people caught up on all of this≠government but despite of everything, there is still faint glimmers of humanity. (Do you theorize that TGBH and IOD take place in the same universe?)

Back to Trash Island.. let's find another part I have to debunk is the most shittiest media literacy take I have came across myself (so far)

Basically saying that by referring to the aboriginal lab tested dogs as cannibals is there for demonising and stereotyping the native people of Japan which is an actual take I saw but it completely misses the entire point of that subplot😭 you cannot be this dumb to miss it. Kim's Place in the Mafia: Novel vs Show

The one thing I can say without a doubt in my mind is that from the crumbs we get of Kim and Chay from the book and show, these two are obsessively in love with each other. So I'll say that now and get that squared away.

And I know, most of the fandom detest the book due to its problematic authors and will never read it, and that's completely valid. Furthermore, I will say now that the book is trash and hardly coherent at times. But as my favorite English scholar for Ancient Rome, Mary Beard, once said: "It's trash...but it's very valuable trash."

For what it's worth, reading the book at least once can provide a more nuanced understanding of why the showrunners made the changes they did in the show. The changes in and of themselves makes for a more cohesive story (SOO MUCH MORE COHESIVE), but it also goes without saying that a lot of the events in the show remain faithful to the novel, so in that regard, there is some merit to be had.

Finally, when I say the novel is "trash", I mean the narrative itself, not necessarily the translation (although it's not perfect by any means). If anything, I'm grateful for the translators who took the time to translate this novel into English, since translation is a thankless job most times in fandom (lookin' at you, MDZS). As I speak no Thai whatsoever, I can’t give an informed opinion on DAEMI's technical writing abilities, since I'm not a native speaker, nor am I the book's target audience.

But, I digress.

The more I reread the book (in all its trash glory), the more I find myself questioning Kim's views in regards to how he sees himself as part of a mafia family. 🤔

In the book, Kim is a lot more accepting of his place within the mafia, despite his initial tendencies of disappearing on his guards and staying away from the main house. In fact, that pretty much changes once Chay enters the picture.

Gotta love a Kinn who's curious about his little bro's love life. XD

Kim is firmly settled into the fold of the family business (if that scene in the secret warehouse is anything to go by) and there’s a scene in the beginning of the book where Korn obligates all 3 sons to dress up in some fancy suits and visit their chocolate factory, since he’s particularly keen on getting it off the ground. This shows that although Kinn is set to inherit (in public, at least) the other two sons still have their duties to the family.

In fact, I will say that one of the most interesting things about reading the book is finding out that Kim's sleuthing is actually canon. Lol Granted, it's sleuthing more in regards to finding the mole and not really about Korn's game plan, but sleuthing nonetheless.

But in the show, his role within the family business and how he views it are a little bit more foggy because he has his musical career to keep him occupied, besides his sleuthing into Korn’s affairs. He’s not active in the way one would typically expect a member of the mafia to be (and who knows, this may be due to limited time constraints on the part of the showrunners), but he’s active within that sphere nonetheless.

And because of this, contrary to the general fandom consensus, I never really got the impression that Kim wanted to be out of the mafia, yknow? Personally, I think it’s too big of a leap to say him moving out = him not wanting to be in the mafia. Having that sort of character motivation wouldn't really make sense either, because then we would have had stronger hints of it, I think?

At the very least, by the end of the show, Kim--just like Chay--has more reasons to stay than not. The way I see it, Kim wanting to be out of the mafia would actually somewhat contradict his actions in the show.

Despite his effort in staying away from the mansion his father and brothers live in (and later on, Chay), Kim benefits from being a Theerapanyakul. We see this in a lot of different ways: the penthouse he lives in, the cars he drives (he gets his own set of the Maserati fleet, yo), his private studio, the freedom of movement he has in being able to easily get information (although this may be debatable), using Big as a gopher.

I highly doubt his career as a young musician is maintaining his luxurious lifestyle (perhaps only a part of it, like the fame); imo, there’s a calculated reason why BOC chose to keep the level of his fame as vague as possible. The way I see it, Kim moved out and pursued music simply because, due to his unique position of being the youngest son (aka the spare), he just had the luxury to do so.

If he truly wanted out of the mafia, I'm firmly on the camp that he could have done so already. We've seen in both the show and the book that unlike Kinn who's constrained by his duties, Kim does have the freedom to disappear, even to the point that it's to his detriment at times. Lol

Maybe I can go even further, and suggest that perhaps the reason he chose to move out is to get a better vantage point of the circumstances surrounding his father's schemes and the ongoing tides of power. Kinda like, he has to move away from the trees, in order to see the entire forest.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he wants power for himself (although this idea would be fun to entertain, especially within the context that he now has Chay in his life to protect), but again, being a member (a high-ranking one, at that) of the Theerapanyakul family benefits him in a lot of different ways.

In one of BOC's interviews and then in Jeff's goodbye message during the last KPWT, he mentioned something about Pond changing up Kim's character in order to make Jeff Satur shine. Idk about y'all, but that's quite a touching gesture, and one I definitely approve of, whilst I get a better understanding of the similarities and differences between novel!Kim and show!Kim. It's obvious from the show that besides changing Kim's maturity level and changing his image from a fuck boi to a cool prince, giving him a passion for music definitely humanized him and served as a way to balance out the other two love stories.

But be that as it may, although we the audience don't know as to what extent Pond changed Kim's character to better fit the story, at the very least maintaining Kim's position as a legitimate contender in the politics of the mafia world remains consistent in both the book and show.

Whether that observation lines up with the idea that he wants out of the mafia though, is entirely up to you. XD

So I’ve been writing his name as “Che’nya” this whole time and for some reason I was positive that that was how you spelled his name. Of course I had been past Book 1 for a while, but I hadn’t played Book 5 yet (I stopped playing the main game for a while lol).

And while a lot of people write his name as “Chenya” some people write his name as “Che’nya” like me too, so I just figured it was people not wanting to deal with the apostrophe and dropping it.

But then glomas came out and they wrote his name as “Chenya.” And I was like 😳. So I finally played Book 5 and… also “Chenya.”

And going back to Book 1, it also used “Chenya”! 💀

So I was trying to figure out why I was so sure that his name was spelled as “Che’nya” and I finally realized it’s probably because that’s how his name is spelled on the Twisted Wonderland wiki!

But now I’m very confused… how did this happen? How has some of the fandom just… started writing it as “Che’nya” instead of what they write in canon? Was it a jp thing?

Now I’m wondering if I need to retrain myself not to write the apostrophe! 😭

I believe “Che’nya” (with the apostrophe) is A Thing due to fan translations that existed before an official English localization. Because fan translations were the main method by which TWST was consumed internationally in 2020-2021, “Che’nya” stuck around as the spelling many preexisting TWST fans defaulted to even post-localization.

There is more than 1 TWST Wiki, one of which relies heavily on fan translated terms—so I’m guessing that’s the one you may have been looking at. The .gg TWST Wiki is the one that relies more on the official localization. You’ll see his name is “Chenya” on there, which reflects TWST EN’s naming.

Why did many fan translators decide to write the name with an apostrophe to begin with? I think it’s because of how the name is written in Japanese. Chenya is written as チェーニャ. In other words, チェー (“chē”, as in Cheshire Cat) + ニャ (“nya”, as in the sound a cat makes). So the name is meant to be read as “Che-nya”. However, depending on one’s dialect or manner of speech, it might be spoken as “Chen-ya”, which makes the name lose its intended cat references. My guess is that fan translators inserted the apostrophe in Chenya’s name to make it clear where the divide is (and to preserve the cat pun).

I would ask a fan translator myself though! I don’t speak for all of them; this is just my best guess based on what I know + speaking with my friends on the subject.

Hi, you can keep this unanswered and not post it, but I want to help you understand the thought behind some of the points in your criticism post. Before I start I want to apologise if I come off as blunt and rude, that's not my intention and I'll try my best to show my tone as unthreatening but I'm autistic and not a native English speaker, which complicates things lol

*general you used throughout the ask

First, I want to start with this: they all are part of the army. You don't need to dig much to see you'll rarely see a "morally upstanding" person in the army, be it because they're cheaters, abusers, compliant with all that or they're (insert -ist/-phobe category here). UK military spouses are 3 times more likely to experience intimate partner violence (IPV). I'm not saying the COD characters need to be written like that, but it wouldn't be "unrealistic" if we take real life statistics into account.

Second, and maybe the most important thing, everyone writes COD characters OOC. The majority of the active fandom on Tumblr and tiktok have seen gifs and 10min out of context clips from the game at best. It's to be expected to not frequently find something actually in character for a lot of the guys. Especially with characters that are just operators like König, Nikto and Krueger. In their case everything is and isn't OOC at the same time because we just... Don't know these characters. We lack characterisation past maybe 1-3 traits about them. I'd argue that's why the fandom liked König so much, other than being masked, he's the perfect paper doll! You can dress him up in whatever characterisation you want and it probably won't contradict his canon (because he barely has one and what he has is quickly misinterpreted (anxiety disorder turning into shyness for example)).

Now specifically on your "How are you going to hc a victim as the abuser?" - simple, whether you like to accept it or not is up to you, but it's not far fetched for victims to become abusers later in life. Just look at serial killers statistics - 74% of US serial killers were psychologically abused and 42% were physically abused as children and later in life followed a similar pattern brought to an extreme. Or on the other hand, a tamer example would be generational trauma because that's how we get that (grandparent was abused and because that's all they know, they implement it in bringing up their child who, for the same reason, implements it in bringing up the grandchild and so on).

The final thing I want to say is, it's good to block people who you don't vibe with. Doesn't matter if it's because they wrote something that personally disturbed you or you simply don't like their blog theme or you see them too often in the tag. Personally curating your experience is key in fandom, utilise the tools Tumblr has given us. Of course as you and others have mentioned that's impossible without some assistance from the other side. Tagging is extremely important (tagging with the correct words without censoring!!! Or the filter won't catch! Rape, noncon, incest ✅; r@pe, n*nc*n, 1nc*st ✖️✖️).

Fandom Problem #4589:

When one or more characters of different origins slip in words of their languages, such as, let's imagine an example, Mexicans living in US or something, it is normal some of their native language would slip through their learned one, or even if their native language is English it's normal they would still call their grandma abuelita if they were taught to. If a character uses foreign words in the different main language we hear them speak in and used in-difference, it's fine

My problem is in movies that take place IN a country and we know they speak the country's language in-universe of course, but for some reason the writers assumed we wouldn't know so they slip in untranslated words gratuitously which... kind of breaks the immersion and makes me think I'm watching an educational show or movie. I understand for words that have no equivalent in the movie's language, but for simple words ? I used Mexico earlier for example because of Coco, in which Miguel at some point says "No gracias... ¿si?". Dude. We know you are speaking Spanish in-universe. Why leaving entire sentences ? To me it always felt like these Japanese fan subs "according to keikaku" with translators or rather here writers thinking they're being smart and educated when really to me it just destroys the immersion and feels as if they were being showing off how they know words
