And, siiiigh, I do need a bit of a break...I've still got fanfiction to write (chapter fifteen of Losing Hope is well underway, for any of those bothered) and I've got LEARNING. GOD. RUDE. I'm still going to be...extremely active, but crowyuan shall be taking a (likely very) short break, just so I can catch up on other things lmao. It won't be longer than a few days, because I still have asks to get to and a lot of yapping to do!!! But yeah, feel free to send asks n shit, because all will be answered after my few days break!!!

Time for some thoughts on the heavenly aspects of heavenly crow demons!

I've gathered from readings various xianxia works that demon kind (Mó Zú, 魔族) and 'heart demons' (Xīn Mó, 心魔) are both called Mó (魔) because the two are intertwined. Demons are either 1) beings that succumbed to their own heart demons, 2) physical manifestations of the heart demons of individuals or people generally, 3) cosmic entities that foster heart demons in other people, or 4) decedents of other demons formed via the former methods. In other words, you don't get a demon without some sort of heart demon being associated with them!

In SVSSS, Heavenly Demons are very explicitly of the first category! They were heavenly beings, but "fell to depravity" and became demons, with the Zuiyin (罪印, Mark of Sin) being a physical manifestation of their fall from the heavens.

When Binghe's seal was broken, he was overcome with bloodlust and the "desire to inflict savage cruelty," which along with all their blood related powers, seems to indicate the major heart demon his Heavenly Demon bloodline suffers from is specifically bloodlust. I'd hazard a guess that a tendency towards anger, and perhaps the need for vengeance, may be manifestations of that heart demon too (succumbing to anger certainly makes Binghe's mark glow brighter and spread).

Thinking about the ex-Jinwu Heavenly Demon Crows, their particular heart demon should be related to vanity, pride, and carelessness. Depending on how you interpret the myth, they almost burned the world to ashes just to mess around, and perhaps be admired, so it seems fitting!

Based on this, Heavenly Demon Crows have a strong tendency towards luxury, pampering, and playing around. If they're trapped somewhere stuffy and boring, are forced to perform menial labors, or are in a sorry state where they don't get to show off their fine garments (or plumage) and sparkly jewelry to be admired, they tend to get quite irritated about it.

Speaking of jewelry, since Heavenly Demon Crows used to be pure gold, their current mostly 'drab' black appearance with only gold feather tips and a slightly gold sheen, is quite tragic to them. It contributes to their grand desire to cover themselves in glitter and gold to make up it!

Luckily for Shen Yuan, he unknowingly snags himself a man who will be thrilled to spoil him rotten, take him to interesting places, and cover him in all the gold and fine silks he could ever want!

First of all, the level of thought you've put into demons is admirable and I will never be able to think of anything else when I'm thinking about demons. Woarh...so many kinds of demons - all so fascinating...So, heavenly demons as once heavenly beings, which is just wild to think about - and the Zuiyin information!! I'm not afraid to admit that I'm very hopeless when it comes to things into this, so this is all information that I am chewing on quite gently THE VANITY, PRIDE AND CARELESSNESS SIN LINKING TO THE CROW DEMONS YES YES YES!!! The idea of Shen Yuan slowly falling for these typicalities within his bloodline, it's so so silly, the idea that he just randomly walks into his little nest home and realises that he's SURROUNDED by gold and glitter and shiny shit, and he's just like "....ohhhh. OHHHHHH-" I love the idea of a huffy Shen Yuan doing something to help out the locals (he loves helping the local villages, even if he hates doing work), and a couple of crows watching as he lugs along a cart of dirt and quietly bemoans the fact that anything shiny he has is thoroughly caked with dirt - he may be helpful, but he likes to be shiny :(( BINGHE GIVING HIM LITERALLY EVERYTHING HE COULD EVER WANT - He so much as LOOKS at something? It's immediately his. Immediately. I love this. I wish I could say more but this speaks for itself. (Check the crowyuan au tag on my Tumblr for more!! I'll probably answer a couple more asks about it tomorrow because I'm only on half a day of learning and I've got a few more interesting asks to blab about!! :D)

I’ve had a silly spin-off idea for crowyuan!

A while back @sunderwight suggested the possibility of Shen Yuan transmigrating as another heavenly demon (as a distant cousin or the like)… well how about Shen Yuan transmigrating as part heavenly crow demon!

I was reading about the Jinwu (golden three legged crows) that are said to be responsible for the sun. These crows were meant to take turns going across the sky, but one myth has them all deciding to go out at once one day, causing the earth to burn until all but one were shot down.

That certainly sounds like the sort of thing that would have someone cast down from the heavens, right? With that you get a bloodline of demonic crows that are in fact heavenly demon crows!

Imagine Shen Yuan transmigrating as some random demon (or half demon) crow that has nothing to do with the PIDW plot, and wondering about the oddity of his bright gold eyes, gold claws, and the golden edges/sheen of his otherwise ash black feathers. He also has a truly insane healing factor and a whole lot of fire and light related powers that were never mentioned as a crow thing. So weird!

This is FASCINATING!! I can't stop thinking about the idea of Shen Yuan just chilling out in the forest and contemplating about what a weird crow he is. He has no idea what he's even transmigrated as for the longest time, thinking that PIDW probably just filled in their own idea of crows because Airplane didn't go out of his way to describe them - far too focused upon the oddest ways to describe papapa to even think about the crows. He also could be surrounded by other demon crows (albeit not heavenly demon crows) so he doesn't question being able to transform into a human or anything - that must just be what demon crows can do in PIDW! Plus, they aren't even mentioned in the plot, meaning that he has no fear of being close to Binghe when he takes a dive into the abyss or even what happens afterwards! He's a demon crow!! He does what he wants with no repercussions from the demon emperor! Or- well, that's what he thinks. (the differences in appearance and abilities from demon crows is completely lost on him, it flies over his head with no sort of catching)

i love love loooooove the crow!yuan au you two made!! it reminds me so much of the wing!fic au i'm writing where shen yuan/shen qingqiu has black (raven) wings, and tho it originally was going to be a cultivation thing (like if you reach golden core stage), after reading your ideas i'm crumbling to the urge to make him part crow demon instead🙏 it's just such a good idea!! shen yuan with the shinies and mischief it just fits so well!

in a more canon-complient au, i really liked the idea of shen yuan still being affected with without-a-cure, and the wing that corresponds with the arm that was hit goes "lame" sometimes, so some days he has to drag his injured wing behind him (looking like a pitiful baby bird in all forms). and the other peak lords like carrying him around when he can't fly (liu qingge especially, tho they will NEVER admit it)

i feel it adds more layers to the demon conversation too, where shen yuan, despite being part demon, is still accepted into the sect. maybe partly because his demon form is more "acceptable", it being only wings or a small bird, or because his power-level/demonic qi is quite low and thus not very noticible. but when binghe presents as a demon, it's a heavenly prince, filled with demonic qi and with red eyes and fangs and the whole, and he isn't accepted, but chased off, because he's a "bad one", unlike shen yuan, who is a "good one". it would cause even more of a rift between binghe and shen yuan like that<3

so yeah i just really like the crow!demon au you came up with!!

Hey, I'm not saying to abandon your original ideas of your fic but just know that I'm the devil on your shoulder whispering in your ear "do itttttt." Despite that, your idea does sound insanely awesome! And I would definitely like to read that sometime :] Oh my god, I have a personal love for when Shen Yuan is pampered by the peak lords - especially with this idea of without-a-cure you added (insanely good, by the way, I want it so bad). Shen Yuan just hauling around his wing as it hangs on his back, still determined to do his tasks, until he's hauled up like a particularly unruly child and carried around by Liu Qingge, who is definitely abandoning his own peak to make sure his shixiong is getting around alright. Shen Yuan cannot stand it! He is pissy all the time (he's acting like a stray cat) and he fights back whenever he's picked up by any passing peak lord (looks up at them with his big, pleading wet cat eyes (it does not help his case, the offending peak lord finds it adorable)) - his disciples even giggle as he's carried around!! Is this what he's been reduced to?? Everyone fussing over him and picking him up? (Who do you think is the best at it? I read a fic recently called Shen Yuan Of No Relation and I'm in love with their characterisation of Wei Qingwei, so I have to admit I think he'd be good at it) When Luo Binghe is chased off, of course he's upset that he's treated differently to Shen Yuan! There has been nothing but adoration for Shen Yuan, what makes him different? Is he that much of a monster? Meanwhile, Shen Yuan feels awful because is that what would happen to him if he was just a little bit more demon??? Talk to me more about this and I will swoon, I'm BEGGING violently on my knees. I'm glad that you like the crowyuan au that anon and I cannot seem to stop yapping about (and probably won't for the near future lmao)
