Sailom and Kanghan, Choice and Fate

Kanghan keeps saying how his entire life is predestined for him - marry, have a family, take over the family business.

In this ep we know for sure that Kanghan has feelings for Pimfah. At least I wasn't sure if he actually likes Pimfah as a friend or as smt else before- maybe i'm extra slow on these things-

But in the prev eps (and all through this ep, too) the tension between him and Sailom were palpable. I'm sure Kanghan realizes it too, but he refuses to consciously admit it.

Is it because he knows that, in his life, having feelings for a guy is not falling in line with the course set out for him? Because he has to marry, has to have a family, and where does Sailom fit in all these things?

Pimfah, on the other hand, comes from a similar background as Kanghan, they're families know e/o and honestly, Pimfah is nice, kind, and like, really pretty, too. It's so easy to like her. We get you Kanghan

Not saying that Kanghan's feelings for her are not valid, or lesser in any way (I love love my bi/pan/abro characters), but what he feels for Sailom and Pimfah are so, so different.

Around Pimfah he more relaxed, which is maybe because those two have known e/o for a very, very long time, maybe as children. They're familiar, but Kanghan doesn't make much of an effort to impress her even. He takes Sailom out on fancy ~expensive~ meals, and sure he does the same with Pimfah, but he teases Pimfah to pay, while with Sailom he's just... just so sweet and caring at meals ueueueue. I'm biased sue me

With Sailom he's got this charged, sexual thingy (we all saw that bed scene!), he wants to make Sailom blush (the bathroom scene!!!!!!!AHHHHH!!). And he wants to prove himself to Sailom, almost like he has to live up to something to be worthy of Sailom. (Which, I think, Granny realizes and is using it to make Sailom study.)

Kanghan probably sees Pimfah as a natural choice, someone he's supposed to like, and since they're friends, he doesn't protest to that, he lets himself fall into the role of her admirer without pausing to think if he actually likes her as a person, a friend, or as a partner.

And Sailom challenges this, and almost everything else in Kanghan's life.

He shows Kanghan that it doesn't matter if his father does not have expectations for him, for Sailom, and Granny, trusts his skills and expects more from him. He shows Kanghan that he can study mass-com (maybe become a musician, too, and not inherit his father's business!). He shows Kanghan that he can like, feel for some he's not supposed to, no matter what life has predestined for him.

He makes Kanghan realize his agency, and that no matter birth, no matter fate, Kanghan can have a choice.
