moreid thought: Morgan discovering he is polyamorous after getting married. He and Savannah discuss it and shes so loving and understanding and encourages him to pursue Reid. Reid, who has been pining for YEARS btw, at first doesn't get that Morgan is actually flirting with him because he's naturally such a flirty person, anyway. Morgan asks him to meet up to see a movie and have dinner. Reid notices it feels like a date, especially when Morgan tucks his hair behind his ear when he calls him Pretty Boy. Happily they are mature enough to actually communicate before the end of the night and Morgan tells him he intended for it to be a date and that he's poly, and bi. Which Reid enthusiastically chirps that he's bi as well, and holds onto his arm as they stroll along. When Morgan drops him off that night its with long, drawn out (pressed against the door, complete with soft whimpers!), kisses and several almost goodbyes. Until they are both panting and making heart eyes and actually part ways for the night.

5 and 23 for the storytelling ask please :)
How do you choose your characters’ names? Choose your least favourite character so far.
Strap in because I'm going to happily ramble about my named sims, and gossip about those I despise! Content warning for sim death.
Tumblr media
How do you choose your characters’ names? oh my gosh I have wanted to talk about this for ages Amy HOW DID YOU KNOW! It could almost be its own post. So when I started most of my characters had pre existing names because they were premades or from the gallery. I'll talk about the sims I have named.
Devin, Deanna, Silas and Milton were randomised names that I liked. Alexander's cats Hamlet and Gertrude come from the play Hamlet. Clover and Ginger are just dog names I liked.
Joey was actually named after this sea otter at Vancouver Aquarium! During the pandemic he was found orphaned and they livestreamed him in his nursery and meeting the older otters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kelly was named before he was born, I wanted a unisex name that could fit a boy or a girl. The boy Kelly I named him after is from Chicago Fire. He is not my favourite character but I do love the complex ones, so him being a jerk and Kelly being evil is one big coincidence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fergus and Carson were named with the randomise button, but I know of characters with their names so I kept them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted all of the Chopra kids to be named after wonderful black characters or persons of renown. The eldest Chopra twin was named after the actress Mercedes Varnardo who plays Koska Reeves on The Mandalorian. I love the spirit of Koska who is dedicated and loyal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The youngest Chopra twin was named after the character Savannah from Criminal minds who married the main character Derek Morgan. She is an intelligent woman with a big heart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the smallest Chopra is of course named after Viola Davis. I wanted an old fashioned sounding name and Viola Davis is amazing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pollock Knightstone is named after painter Jackson Pollock. His father Adam is an art critic so I figured he'd name him for an out there artist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alfred and Rilian Villareal get their names from the areas of culture their mama and mummy love. Alfred is named for famous director Alfred Hitchcock (that's why he has a thing about birds)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rilian is named for Prince Rilian from the Narnia books. Specifically Prince Rilian, who is the son of Prince Caspian, is a character in the Silver Chair (a movie I saw several times growing up).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found Marta's name by looking at a list of popular Latina names. But her surname, Romero, absolutely comes from Romeo and Juliet. If you are attracted to pretty males and haven't seen Douglas Booth playing Romeo you are missing out!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Choose your least favourite character so far
I have several and thankfully they are all dead! It's hard to pick between these two though. Mortimer might beat Ophelia by a smidgeon.
Ophelia Ryan was James Goth's first wife. I hated her on principal because between rotations MCCC married them because James may have had a romance bar with Alexander but they weren't an official couple. Storywise I had her being a snob who only married James for his family status (James had the closeted trait when Alexander started flirting with him). Anyway she refused to believe James was gay, claiming no one actually enjoys woohoo, and was not going to let him divorce her so he could marry his boy toy. Then she had a cardiac explosion and died because she was a COW.
Mortimer Goth became a self obsessed mean man. First off he started blaming Bella for all their troubles, and called her a gold digger repeatedly. He was far more interested in writing his precious bestsellers than caring about his kids or wife. He only saw Cassandra and Alexander as their achievements, and let Milton lie in a diaper blowout for hours because he was writing. Oh and then he slept with their maid. Then he hired Dina to be a live in maid and slept with her before Bella disappeared. Then he was CRUSHED by a meteor made of karma.

How They meet my Girlfriend - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Like a Father
Months have passed since Max met Morgan, Savannah and Hank. And she kept facetiming them to plan the art programs and to keep giving Savannah tips to teach Hank how to paint.
He was improving and Max couldn't be more proud of him.
"You are going to be a good mom, Max," said Savannah with a warm smile. She blushed and nodded softly.
"That's something I'm looking for as soon as Spencer and I get married. You know... Not very religious but I still can hear my mother's voice saying 'don't you dare getting pregnant without a ring Maxine' and I can't let my mother down"
That made Savannah laugh "yeah your mom sounds exactly like mine. Anyway... Thank you for everything and hope to see you and Spencer for New Year"
"Of course, I NEED to try Derek's mom's food once again" the two women laughed and said their goodbye.
Then she left for her sister's house. Spencer was in the FBI building teaching Profiling 101 and they would meet at her sister's for lunch and movie night.
At the FBI, things were going well for Spencer. He used one of his cases to teach them how to profile correctly and what they should do.
It wasn't easy but by the end of the day some managed to get to the right answer.
"So how was the class?" Asked JJ walking in.
He smiled at her and picked his bag up "great, but some agents needs more cases, they were slow at making connections"
"Well, not everyone has Spencer Reid's brain" she said sarcastically but with a sweet smile.
He just laughed and looked at her "yeah I know but three people in this room solved it before the 30 minutes mark. The rest needed from 45 to 50 minutes to do so" he threw data at her like Dr. Reid could do.
"Of course you counted that out" said JJ rolling her eyes playfully "by the way... I came here because Emily wants to talk to you"
"Will it be quick? I'm going to have lunch with Max and her sister's family before watching movies"
JJ was so happy to see him so happy and having fun with his girlfriend, deep inside she still regrets she didn't understand, or accept, her feelings before but she wouldn't change a thing, Will and her kids are everything to her and so is Spencer, in a different and platonic way.
"Yeah don't worry, it will be quick" she smiled and both of them walked to the BAU offices. She told him about how Michael was learning to read his first words and Spencer did a whole speech about how kids learned to identify letters without realizing that.
When they arrived JJ took him inside the conference room and in front of him was Aaron Hotchner, a little older but with the same stoic look and a little smile when he saw him.
"Hey kid" he said and Spencer just hugged him. Their embrace lasted for about five minutes and fifteen seconds, Spencer counted that.
After that the rest of the team joined in and they sat down around the table.
"H... how are you doing? What are you doing here?" Said the genius boy with tears in his eyes.
"Well after the team killed Peter Lewis, me and my son didn't need to be hidden so we got out of the program. I know you all thought it meant my return but I just loved so much to be a full-time father so I didn't want to lose more of my son's big moments" said Hotch smiling "of course I missed you all so much but Emily kept me updated" he laughed softly, something not to common from him.
"We missed you too, the team always feels different when we lose a member and at first we felt lost without you" confessed Spencer.
"Yeah me included" said Emily and the team laughed "but we found our rhythm and work in sync again"
"This team knows how to adapt so I'm not surprised. Even with the lost of our glue, Penelope" said Hotch "she was the constant I never thought would leave"
"She needed it, 15 years watching horrible things wasn't easy" said Luke and some of the team smirked happily for their recently new official relationship status.
"So guys, I didn't come just to see you again, which is always a pleasure, but also to invite you to the last day of Jack's soccer league. They will be facing against one of the best teams in Virginia and the current champions of the league" he said in a serious tone "and there will be headhunters and it's his opportunity to win a scholarship for soccer"
"Wow! That's huge, I got a scholarship and that's how I got out of my hometown" said JJ.
"Yes it's huge and I want this family to watch it. His grandfather died when the Alzheimer got worse and his aunt moved out of town and I can't find her so you are the only family left..."
The BAU loved Jack, especially the OG team, so of course they will be there for him.
Hotch handed each member enough tickets for their closed family.
JJ got 4 for her, her husband and sons; Emily has three for her, Andrew and his daughter; Luke for him and Penelope; Tara for her and her boyfriend; Dave for him and his wife and Matt for him, his wife and five kids.
When Hotch reached Spencer, he had a proud and fatherly smile "Reid... Spencer... I'm so happy for you. When JJ said she was in a relationship with Will, Gideon and I thought you wouldn't give love a second chance" he blushes and Hotch only smiled bigger "you thought I didn't know? I went to Gideon to buy those tickets to the football game" he laughed softly, very out of character but Aaron Hotchner was relaxed and happier, like the man his wife fell in love with "when we lost Maeve I was worry you would lose faith in love, and I was losing my hopes but Emily told me about that brave, young woman you were dating with"
"Why are all my friends like that?" He looked at his boss and his mind imagined Penelope's face "they love to told everything about me"
Hotch just smirked and handed him two tickets "I want to meet her Spencer '' then he finished giving more tickets to other members of the BAU floor and left the building.
Spencer was nervous about presenting his girlfriend to his former boss, mostly because Aaron was like a father to him and he didn't want to disappoint him, he was aware that Max was amazing and he would love her right away like Derek and the other team members.
He arrived at her father's house and walked in with his key, she gave him one and her father was okay with it. He looked for her and she was in the kitchen getting everything ready with her sisters.
He walked to her "hey girls, how is it going?" He asked softly and wrapped an arm around Max kissing her head.
"Hey babe, we are almost done with this and my dad is turning the barbecue grill on. What took you so long at work?"
"Well my former boss was at the BAU and he invited us to his son's soccer game" he showed her the tickets and he couldn't read her expression, like always, she was hard to read.
"Sounds like fun" she said after reading the invitation, she looked up at him and smiled "are you okay with it?"
"Yeah, why shouldn't I?"
"Well, I know he is like a father to you and I don't want you to feel pressured or nervous" on the other hand he seemed like an open book for her, she could read him so easily.
"Yes, I know but I want you to meet him and I want him to meet you" she nodded and when her sisters left the kitchen and headed to the backyard she kissed him softly.
"Good, I know how important is him for you," she smiled and held his hand to go to the backyard.
The rest of the day was relaxed. They ate, played poker and even shared a couple of cups of wine. They finished the day watching a movie with ice cream and apple pie. Then we left the house late that night.
The rest of the week was busy for both of them. They had so much work to do that they only spent the night together, with the promesa of not talking about work at dinner.
The day of the game arrived and Spencer was wearing the shirt of the team as well as Max, JJ gave him the shirts the day before so they were ready to support the team.
All of them have Jack's number, he was number ten.
"I never imagined myself wearing a soccer shirt," he said in front of the mirror.
"Then I can be pretty sure that you love that boy and his father, because they made you wear one" she said from the bathroom and Spencer could hear the smirk on her lips as she spoke.
"The things we do for love huh?" He said laughing and she was laughing as well.
"Yeah, must definitely"
When she was ready they left for the stadium. It was a high school stadium but it was big enough to host the home and visit fans.
They arrived just in time for the national anthem, there were all the team members and their couple, and kids, all wearing the shirt number ten and cheering for Jack.
He was taller than the last time they saw him and his face looked like a beautiful mix between Hailey and Aaron, his blond hair was short and darker than when he was a little boy.
His team had more possession of the ball but couldn't score yet, the time passed as the possession was even now. The other team was more aggressive and attacked more often but their goalkeeper was doing great.
On the other hand, Jack was struggling with a triple mark and couldn't do much for the team in attack.
The first half ended 0-0 but it wasn't boring. Aaron, JJ, Luke and Max left to get them food.
While they were in line to buy hotdogs, Aaron and Max talked.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Max" he said "Emily and JJ talked to me about you and I was so happy to know that our genius boy had a girlfriend"
"I hope they said good things about me" she said with a little smirk looking at JJ getting sodas and snacks with Luke.
"Yes, they did. In fact they told me you were a badass woman and worthy of our boy" that made her blush a little "I don't know if you know about his former girlfriend"
"I do, he told me about her and I know everything about your wife and about Jason and of course his other traumatic experiences with this job"
"Good, then you know that he needs a strong woman, right?" She nodded.
"And I am. I might be shorter and skinny but I will make sure to protect him" Aaron smiled and nodded.
After he left the BAU and spent more time with his son, he started to smile more and to relax more so now his smiles were more genuine and they truly looked happier.
"Good, that's all I wanted and I'm sure Jason as well so I will let Spencer in your hands. Don't let this job take the best of him or your relationship"
"I won't, I promise it" he nodded and smiled then they finally arrived at the counter and ordered their hotdogs, JJ and Luke got in time to help with the trails and they all headed back to their seats.
The rest of the game was more entertaining since the coaches changed some players that weren't doing well. Thirty minutes later Jack scored their first goal after a foul close to the other team's area.
All of them screamed excitedly because his team was fifteen minutes away from being champions.
Their team kept their defense strong and stopped the forward players from scoring. Then Jack assisted a second goal and the match ended 2-0 for his team.
After some minutes the two teams received medals, the losing team got silver and Jack’s team got gold and a cup that Jack lifted since he was the captain. He also won the MVP of the final and the golden boot because he scored the highest number of goals.
That night after taking a shower and changing their clothes, all the members of the group plus the other parents and Jack’s teammates went to Rossi’s house and had dinner there and a toast to celebrate the title and that some guys already got contacted by headhunters. One of them was Jack.
That night Aaron walked to Spencer, who was getting two glasses of water, while Max was dancing with the girls.
“She is the right one” was the only thing his former boss, Spencer smiled and turned but he was walking away already then Spencer looked up at the sky with Gideon on his mind, he took a deep breath and walked back to the girls.
OOooOOooOO
This chapter took too long to make, I started it but wasn’t able to find a good plot or a good way to express this story. I hope you liked it, leave a comment or a like to let me know you enjoyed it. Let me know if you think there is someone else, you might want to meet Max.

I’m curious what your plans are for Morgan x Garcia and Haley x Hotch. Would Haley get married again or is she scared cuz of how it ended last time? I loved how you wrote about their relationship when Piper stayed with Haley after 52 Pickup.
so... don't hate me, but character wise i don't think either of them are endgame. so for morgan and garcia, while they do love each other, they want very different things for themselves. morgan grew up in a large family, he wants a family of his own, and garcia doesn't really want that. like she doesn't particularly believe in marriage, and while she does love kids, i don't think she wants her own. so while they do date for a while, it's not endgame. that said, they're still very good friends, they still flirt with each other after, and derek still ends up meeting savannah.
as for hotch and haley, i think they both love each other and probably always will, but i think haley's scared of going all in because of how dangerous the job is and how long he's gone. i'm still trying to figure out how it all plays out, but right now, the vision in my head is that something happens that makes hotch leave the bau. i don't think it's something like scratch to be honest cause that would be inconsistent with his character, cause he didn't leave the bau when foyet was hunting them down. i think that haley finds out she's pregnant again and hotch is determined to do better this time and he leaves the bau. maybe they have a little girl and either name her piper OR ask piper to be the godmother.
as for garcia, in my head, she still ends up with luke because cm:evolution was just weird to them. i mean, i don't think luke's particularly hung up on getting marriage, i don't think he really wants kids, and honestly, i think the only reason penelope dumps on him so much is cause she really likes him and doesn't want to. also, the idea that you can't make fun of your s/o is fucking stupid. so my endgame for garcia is still her and luke.

“And so I named the stars one by one, after every favourite memory of you.” — Stephen Stilwell
Tumblr media
“Isn’t it beautiful?” She whispered, eyes staring up into the night, drawn to the little specks of light dotted in the clear sky. They were laid on the soft grass, blanket beneath them as they looked up together, beaming smiles on both their faces.
He grinned down at the woman who rested her head on his chest, his arms wound tightly around her. “It certainly is. I’m surprised the sky is so clear tonight, I really didn’t think we were going to be able to see much.” He admitted with a little laugh.
She chuckled at that. “You didn’t think we’d see much, and yet you still let me drag you out here at an ungodly hour so we could watch the stars?” She asked, shuffling slightly so she could look up at him.
“Of course. You’re cute when you’re excited, I didn’t have the heart to tell you that the probability of the sky being clear enough for us to see anything was only around 37%.” He explained, intertwining their hands together. “But there you go again, proving me wrong.”
“Hm. Aren’t you supposed to be a genius or something?” She joked, making him roll his eyes.
“I am! Unless you too can recite the Bible from memory? Or the manual for our microwave?” He joked, causing Y/N to give him a gentle shove.
“Can I ask you something?” She whispered, looking up at him.
He breathed out. “Anything.”
They were quiet for a little while before she spoke again. “Do you ever think about our future?”
Spencer’s breath hitched at the question.
Of course, he thought about their future. All the time. Marriage, kids, a big house with a white picket fence, perhaps even a dog. It was the ‘apple-pie’ life he’d dreamt of, more than he’d like to admit.
He gave her a squeeze, one of reassurance.
They’d been together for two years. Two years that had simultaneously been the best and worst of his life. In those years he’d nearly died after being shot in the neck, he’d lost Alex, Kate, Gideon, and the team was still under immense threat from Mr. Scratch. And somehow, admist all the chaos, he’d met this incredible woman who had helped him through it all. The last few months in particular had been rough for him. With Morgan leaving the team and his mother’s condition worsening, it had certainly made him reconsider everything he had in his life and also reminded him of not only what he’d lost, but what he’d gained.
Y/N sighed, but still gave Spencer a smile. “It’s ok. We don’t have to talk about it, I was only wondering.”
“No, no. It’s ok. I’m just trying to gather my thoughts, is all.” He assured her, moving to sit up straight. Y/N sat up too, Spencer reaching out and grabbing one of her hands to hold tightly in his. “I think about it all the time, truthfully.” He mumbled.
“You do?”
“Of course, I do. You’re it for me, Y/N.” He gave a small smile, his gaze dropping to their intertwined fingers. “It’s just, I’ve been thinking a lot lately.”
Y/N nodded, urging him to continue.
“I’ve been thinking about my position at the BAU.” He stated firmly. Y/N’s eyes widened slightly in shock, surprised at the confession. The way he said it was so sure, so certain. He’d evidently been thinking about it for quite some time.
“Ever since Morgan left, I’ve been going over it again and again in my head. I understand why he left. His family needed him and it’s honestly the most admirable thing I’ve ever seen him do. I just wonder,” He paused, biting down on his lip in thought. “Would it be wise for me to make the same decision he did?”
Y/N frowned. “What do you mean?”
“I just mean— Y/N I love you. I want us to get married, have children, I want us to have a life together. And after watching Morgan, seeing how he gave up the job for his family, don’t you think I should do that too? For you, for us?” He explained, eyes finally meeting her worried ones.
“Woah, woah Spence. Are you saying you’re thinking of leaving the BAU?” She clarified, moving a little closer to him.
Spencer nodded. “I know, it seems crazy right? At first I couldn’t believe that I was even considering it but I’ve thought about it a lot and it just, it seems like the right thing to do.” He gave a small shrug. “If we’re going to have a life together I want our family to be my priority, and I just don’t think I can do that while I’m still doing this job. I’ve seen it all first hand. I watched Hotch lose Haley, I watched Morgan nearly lose Savannah, all because of this job.”
Y/N shook her head slowly, much to Spencer’s surprise. “Spencer... I won’t be the reason that you leave a job that you worked so hard for, a job that you love so much. What about the team? They’re your family- “
It was Spencer’s turn to shake his head, cutting her off mid-sentence. “You’re right. The team are my family, but so are you. And if they care about me like I know they do, they’ll support me with this. And as for jobs? There are plenty out there that I’ll enjoy. I’ve actually been thinking of getting in contact with Alex, maybe asking about teaching opportunities at Georgetown.”
Y/N looked up at him, eyebrows furrowing as she studied his face intently. He avoided her eyes, small smile pulling at his lips.
She smiled back, a knowing look on her face. “You’ve already spoken to Alex about it, haven’t you?”
Spencer chuckled with a nod. “You know me too well. I spoke to her last week. She said there’s an open spot as the head of the Criminal Psychology department. The job is mine if I want it.”
Y/N gave him a grin, squeezing his hands. “Are you sure this is what you want?” He nodded, but that wasn’t enough for her. “No, I need to hear you say it. I need to know that you’re not going to resent me in a few years because of this.”
He was quick to shake his head, pulling her toward him as one of his hands came up to cup her face. “I would never resent you.”
“So, this is what you want?” She asked once more, just so she knew he was absolutely sure.
He nodded adamantly. “I want you. I’m only ever going to want you.” He murmured the words so softly that it made Y/N’s heart ache. “Now, and for the rest of my days.”
With joyful tears building in her eyes she nodded, enveloping him in a hug as he kissed the side of her forehead.
Spencer let out a sigh accompanied by a teary smile. He gave her a squeeze, his hands soothing along her back as he looked up at the stars. “Did you know, there’s an old Buddhist saying that when you meet your soulmate, remember that the act to bring you together was 500 years in the making. We’re supposedly, quite literally, bound together through space and time. Isn’t that cool?” He rambled, earning a chuckle from Y/N.
“That is really cool.” She agreed.
“You know I’m a man of science, but how else is it possible that you came into my life at a time where I needed you the most?” He whispered the last part, as though he was afraid to be so vulnerable as to let the words leave his lips. “Do you- do you think it’s possible that the stars brought us together?”
She grinned, tilting back her head slightly to look up at the stars with him. “Yeah, I think so.”
*
Spencer looked down in awe at the baby girl pressed against his bare chest. Josephine June Reid, barely three days old and already she had her father wrapped right around her tiny finger. Nothing he’d ever felt before compared to the feeling he had when he looked down at her, his little girl, his daughter. She slept peacefully against him, her little chest rising and falling rhythmically as his hands soothed over her back, gently rocking her.
There was a soft knock on the nursery door, his tired-looking wife pushing it open. “Spence?”
He looked up, and offered her a warm smile. “Hey, you’re supposed to be resting.”
Y/N gave a sleepy grin, moving toward them. “You know that we’re supposed to sleep when she does, right?”
He snickered at that, raising an eyebrow at her. “You only gave birth three days ago. You know I’m going to tell you to get back into bed, right? Doctor’s orders.”
She held her hands up in a mock surrender, placing a kiss on the side of Spencer’s head. “I know.”
It was silent for a moment, the new parents just staring down at the little life they’d created, filled with such a warmth, such a happiness that they’d never felt before.
“I can’t put her down, not yet. I don’t want to let her go.” Spencer whispered, bringing up a finger to soothe over his daughter’s cheek. “I love her so much.”
“I know. She loves you too.” Y/N assured, watching with joy at how Spencer was with their daughter. He really was a natural with kids.
“You really should go back to bed, love. You need all the rest you can get.” He warned in a playful tone.
Y/N chuckled a little with a nod, bending down to press a gentle kiss to her daughter’s forehead. “I’m not going to fight you on that one Doc, I’m exhausted.” She ruffled the curls on her husband’s head, offering him a warm smile. “Love you. Come back to bed soon, yeah?”
Spencer nodded, promising he would.
Before Y/N left the nursery, she turned back to her husband, calling his name softly. “Spence?”
“Yeah, love?”
“Do you regret it now?” She whispered, her fingers fumbling together as though she was afraid she wouldn’t like his answer. “Do you regret leaving the BAU?”
The question made him frown, it made him think. Did he regret leaving?
His eyes flickered between his wife and the beautiful little girl against his chest and he smiled slightly at the realisation. This was everything he’d ever wanted, here, right in front of him. Every decision he’d made, every moment of heartache, every person he’d lost, they had all lead him there. To that very moment.
And for that, he was so incredibly grateful.
“No.” He replied, his voice as sure as the day he first mentioned leaving. “Not even for a second.”
He supposed he had the stars to thank for that.

All for My Girls (Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader)
Tumblr media
(Not my gif!)
Masterlist
———————
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader.
Summary: Spencer missed calls and texts from his wife. Something important happened and he needs to rush to the hospital.
Word Count: 1494.
Warnings: None. Just a short self-indulgent fluff fic.
A/N: Spencer Reid as a father. It’s all we need.
——————–
Spencer was dozing off in that uncomfortable plastic chair in the middle of a hospital's waiting room. It was 3 in the morning. His eyelids are heavy from exhaustion. When he arrived home that night, her wife wasn't there. Weird. She hadn't told him about going out.
He thought a little in case he forgot something. But he never forgets anything, even less if it was something related to her. Spencer never forgot a birthday, an anniversary, a particular date, an appointment in all the years they were married. Nothing. What did he miss now?
When he pulled his phone from his jacket, he noticed that it was off. He didn't see it before. That made sense to him. Maybe his wife called him, and he didn't answer because his phone was dead. Oh, God! What if something terrible happened?
Spencer rushed to the nightstand where the charger was and plugged his phone on it. It took longer than five minutes for his phone to return to life.
He unlocked the screen and saw a lot of messages and missed calls from his wife.
"Spencer Reid, grab your ass and come to the hospital right now! It's time!" it read in the last message. Spencer put on his coat again and rushed to the hospital. How he could be so negligent! He knew the baby would come any time, and he wasn't prepared? 'It's a shame, Spencer!' He scolded himself.
Spencer arrived at the hospital past 10 pm. When he made it to the waiting room, he saw Morgan and Savannah waiting.
"Hey, guys!" Spencer greeted, gasping for the long run he made from the entrance.
"Pretty Boy! Where have you been?" Morgan asked. "(Y/N) texted us, and I tried to call you. You never answered! What happened man? We were worried," Derek questioned. Spencer shook his head, catching his breath. Clearly, his physical condition was not optimal for that run.
"I - I'm sorry. My phone gone dead. Where - where is she?" the genius doctor inquired.
"She is in the delivery room right now. She is in labor," Savannah replied.
"What? Damn it! I came too late! I couldn't even see her!" Spencer complained.
"We almost didn't. When we got here, (Y/N) was just entering the room with the doctors and nurses. But she was okay, man. We have to wait now, you can’t get in," Morgan stated.
Spencer started pacing the waiting room... waiting. Reid felt sad that he hadn't seen the calls and messages on his phone before. Perhaps he could have arrived in time to see the birth of their little girl. He was anxiously now, waiting next to Morgan and Savannah.
The clock marked 11 pm, midnight, 1 am... and there was still no news. Spencer knew it could be a long time to wait, but he secretly hoped that their little girl wouldn't put up much resistance to get out. Although he didn't blame her, what could be more secure and calm than her mother's womb?
Spencer recalled all the times he dreamed of having a baby. He remembered the times when with (Y/N) talked that he wanted a girl. A little girl to teach her, spoil her, and love her. He dreamed with a little girl as a (Y/N)'s carbon copy. With her eyes, her smile, her personality. He wanted a girl so so much.
When they both were at the doctor's office to know the baby's gender, he was so nervous. Looking at the screen and seeing a tiny bundle moving on made them both cry. And when the doctor said that they were expecting a girl, Spencer almost passed out of pure and utterly emotion.
Spencer was so excited and happy that he did everything he could to make (Y/N) comfortable and supported during her pregnancy. He helped her in everything. Spencer went to all the doctor's appointments. He stayed late at night, helping his wife sleep in a comfortable position. He woke up early to make breakfast. Of course, he read all the books about the pregnancy he could.
In the nights before sleep, Spencer was accustomed to reading a story to his little girl. She started to recognize his voice: every time Spencer talked, the baby moved or kicked. (Y/N) assured him that she would be a daddy's girl. And she was. And she still is. Twenty-six years later, she's his little girl yet.
A commotion brought Spencer out of his thoughts. Hank Morgan appeared in the waiting room with a huge grin that could illuminate all DC.
"It's a healthy little girl!" he yelled. Morgan was the first to hug his son, who now became a father. Spencer looked at him with watering eyes and speechless. The same happened to him when his daughter was born.
After he hugged his mother, Hank moved toward Spencer.
"She is okay. A little tired, but she is okay. And your granddaughter is beautiful and healthy. They are waiting for you," Hank assured Spencer, pointed to the room where his - now two - little girls were.
When Spencer walked into the room, it was like going back 26 years, only this time, a third little person was included in the scene. When his daughter saw him arrive, her eyes lit up. She was holding a small wrapped bundle in her arms. His wife was standing next to the bed, looking at him with a smile on her lips.
"Hi dad!, come over here, I want to introduce you to someone," she said, whispering. Spencer couldn't help but see those beautiful eyes lit up despite the exhaustion after hours of labor. Those eyes his daughter inherited from his wife. He approached slowly and plastered a kiss on his daughter's forehead.
"Hello Pumpkin. I'm so sorry I was late..." Spencer apologized.
"Let's see if you worry about having your phone with enough charge next time," (Y/N) scolded him.
"Mom, don't be rude to Dad. He's already here." Spencer could barely pay attention. Now his eyes were on the little person sleeping in her mother's arms. "Dad, let me introduce you to Amelia Morgan Reid, your granddaughter," she said solemnly.
Because, of course, as Spencer had to learn over the years, children grow and make their lives. Her little girl grew up, fell in love, and made her own family. And with Derek Morgan, his friend for years, they were now joined by their own children. The result of that love now slept peacefully in his daughter's arms.
"Can - Can I hold her?" Spencer asked shyly.
"Sure you can, Dad," she said, handing him the little girl wrapped in a cozy blanket.
When Spencer held his granddaughter in his arms, time stopped for him.
Where did his mind go? To the moment when he held her daughter for the first time. It was a rainy day, and (Y/N)'s water broke at the same BAU. It was Morgan who drove the car to take them to the hospital. Spencer was with (Y/N) the entire time. Encouraging her between each contraction, kissing her temple, and letting her squeeze his hand throughout the process. When the cries of the newborn flooded the room, Spencer swore that at that moment, his life had changed forever. So it was. Holding her daughter for the first time, he promised her always to be for her. Spencer promised to give her all the love in the world and always support her. And Spencer Reid has kept his word.
Now holding his granddaughter, Spencer couldn't help but repeat his vows.
"My little girl. You don't know how happy I am to have you in my arms. You don't know how happy you will make this family. I know that I'll have to share your love and that maybe I won't be your favorite grandfather. I cannot compete with Grandpa Morgan in many things, but I can assure you that I will be there for you when you need me. And the day I leave this world, I will continue to take care of you. Just like I'll continue to take care of your mom and your grandmother," Spencer whispered as Amelia stir and opened her little eyes. A big smile crept on Spencer's face.
"I see you both are already having your first serious conversation," her daughter mused. Spencer turned and walked over to the bed to lay her granddaughter in her mother's arms.
"The same conversation I had with you the day you were born," Spencer replied. "I'm proud of you, Pumpkin," Spencer praised. His daughter smiled.
"Thanks, dad. For everything," she said, snuggling Amelia into her arms again.
"Always. All for my girls," Spencer declared, holding his wife's hand and placing a soft kiss on his daughter's forehead.
And what Spencer Reid said was entirely right. He has given everything. And he will continue doing everything in his power for his wife, daughter, and now for his granddaughter—everything for his family.

-----
I am not the only traveler
Who has not repaid his debt
I've been searching for a trail to follow again
Take me back to the night we met
The clock just struck 12, everyone had arrived back at the BAU after a case in Delaware. The team sat in the bullpen, their heads perked up when the elevator dinged and the doors opened.
Derek.
He stepped off the elevator with a smile on his face, the glass doors ruined his image of a surprise but what the hell, he missed them too much to even care. Derek pulled the door open, the familiar smell of coffee and paper files filled his nose.
“Derek ?” Spencer stood up from his chair.
“Pretty boy” Derek smiled making his way over to give him a hug. Spencer smiled as his face was pulled into Derek’s shoulder.
Derek turned to Emily next, “princess” he grinned, “hey you” she hugged him.
JJ was next, her arms wrapped around his neck as she stood on her tiptoes to give him a proper hug.
He went on to hug Tara and Rossi, and greeted Luke and Matt as they made their way into the BAU.
Derek chatted with the team, they told him about the kidnapping case they had just worked but he couldn't seem to focus on their conversations as his mind kept wandering back to her.
Where is she?
One by one, the office cleared out. Matt and JJ being the firsts as they wanted to get home to their kids, Luke was next one and on his way to pick up Roxy. Tara and Rossi left shortly after the first 3, leaving Derek, Emily and Spencer sitting in the bullpen, just like old times.
“Okay, I've been here for..” Derek glances at the clock, “27 minutes and I’ve yet to see my baby girl. Did she leave early?” Derek asked them, Emily and Spencer glanced at each other before turning back to Derek.
“Derek, she-” Emily started but Derek cut her off. “I think I'll go surprise her” He headed out of the bullpen before either of them could say anything to him.
“Did she really not tell him ?” Spencer looks at her,
“She didnt want him to come and beg her to stay” Emily says quietly. Spencer gets up and walks out to find Derek, he sees Derek just as he opens the second door to her office.
“Baby gir-” Derek stops in his tracks. The office only had the lights on but all the monitors were off and all her stuff was gone. The chair was pushed in, there was dust starting to settle on the desk and monitors.
Where is she? Where’s all her stuff ? God, did something happen to her? I should have never left.
Spencer’s voice broke through Derek’s thoughts. “She left” Spencer whispered, leaning against the door frame. Derek didn't say anything, he stood there quietly, in the middle of her office, an empty office, trying to make sense of what was happening.
“When ?” Derek’s fingers dragged across the desk where her key board should be.
“February” Spencer told him.
“She didn’t tell me” Derek mumbled.
Derek didn't know how to feel.
His heart pounding in his chest.
“Can I have a minute alone ?” Derek glances at Spencer before turning back to the turned off monitor.
“Of course. Emily and I will be in the bullpen if you need us” Spencer pulled the door shut as he left Derek in the office.
And then I can tell myself
What the hell I'm supposed to do
And then I can tell myself
Not to ride along with you
There’s no way she left. This had to be some practical joke. Maybe Penelope hacked the flight records, saw he was coming to Virginia and wanted to mess with him.
Derek pulled the chair out and sat down. His heart sunk in his chest, his hand ran across the desk again, his fingers making marks in the dust. He couldn’t wrap his mind around the fact that she had left.
Sure, he knew she would have eventually moved on, she’s talented and smart and beautiful.
My god, how she was beautiful.
But never did he ever think the day would come where she would actually leave the BAU.
This was her home, they were her family.
Derek had never seen the office this empty. There were always trinkets, sparkly fluffy pens and mugs, so many mugs, more than you could count.
The room felt heavy though it was empty.
His hand reached into the desk drawer to his left, it was empty. Not like he was expecting anything to be there but he thought it wouldn’t hurt to check. Derek leaned back in the chair as his foot tapped against the desk, something rattled.
His eyes flickered down to the other drawer as his foot tapped the desk again. Derek pulled the drawer open, there was some paper in it. He picked them up and flipped through them, it was mostly computer manuals and old case files. Under all of that, there was a picture frame.
It was a simple black picture frame, which was a bit plain for Penelope’s taste but the photo brought a smile to his face. It was a picture from the night of the police gala, they were already running late but she insisted that they take a picture before heading inside.
“Derek! Don’t be difficult, we’re already late. It doesn't make a difference” she tried to reason with him. “Baby girl, they're waiting on me” Derek looked at her, already on his way to the door. Derek was stubborn but if he had a soft spot, and one she knew he had for sure, it was her.
“Derek Morgan if you don't get your butt over here right now, so help me god because I will leave you here all by yourself” she mustered up the most stern look she could manage and looked at him. Derek chuckled and shook his head, jogging back down the stairs to his beloved Penelope.
He’d go to the ends of the earth and back for this woman.
“Excuse me!” Penelope turned to the man at the valet, “could you take a picture for us?” she fished the camera out of her wristlet, Derek smiled at her.
“Mama, why don't you use your phone? you’re always carrying around this camera”
“I like my camera, it holds pictures from forever ago. When we were all young and happy” she wrapped her arm around his waist, Derek put his arm around her shoulder and her other hand came up to reach his, their fingers interlocking.
“Are we not happy now?” he looked down at her.
Even with heels on, Derek still towered over Penelope. She looked up at her chocolate thunder and smiled,
“I'm always happy when I'm with you.”
The two of them stood there, smiling at each other, they had forgotten all about the picture until the camera flashed. The man from the valet spoke up “would you like one more? maybe looking at the camera this time ?” They turned towards the camera with the brightest smiles on their face.
Derek’s finger ran across the glass of the frame. She didn’t use the picture of them looking at the camera, but the one of them looking at each other. Her words flooding his mind once again,
“I’m always happy when I'm with you.”
I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Oh, take me back to the night we met
Derek was tempted to call her, to ask her why she hadn’t told him that she was leaving the BAU. He would have come and helped her pack, made sure she had a proper goodbye, most importantly, he would have gotten to tell her what he had come back to tell her.
He had missed a call from her last month and he didn't return her call simply because he had forgotten.
To say he felt guilty, was an understatement.
What if she had been calling to tell him that she was leaving ? Or if something had happened to her? or JJ or Emily or Spencer ? Or even Rossi (because, let’s be real, he’s old)
The thought of Penelope calling Derek to tell him Rossi busted a hip running after an unsub bought a smile back to his face. His mind wandered back to all the times he had called her and they spent hours talking and laughing and telling each other how much they loved one another.
Those were just words, it didn't truly mean anything unless he showed her that it did. The feeling of his heart sinking in his chest returned, he thought back to ten years ago, he had missed a call from Spencer.
The cold air hit his face as he stepped out of the church, Derek took his phone out of his pocket.
Missed Call from Pretty Boy (2)
The missed call notifications flashed across the screen in bold letters. Derek assumed that Penelope had Spencer call to find out why he hadn't returned to the BAU with everyone else so he called Spencer back.
“Hey, sorry I missed your call” Derek said to Spencer as he hopped in the SUV.
“Derek where the hell are you ?” Spencer sounded upset, Derek chuckled.
“Woah, calm down pretty boy. What’s wrong?”
“Garcia’s been shot” Spencer cut straight to the point.
Derek’s heart dropped and a flood of questions left his mouth. “What ? Where is she? Is she okay ? Where's Hotch ? Did he find the person ? How did this even happen?”
“Morgan, we’re at the hospital. Penelope’s in surgery and Hotch is here. He’s got other officers at her apartment, he wanted everyone here when she got ou- oh wait, Hotch and Rossi are on their way to her apartment now”
“Her apartment ? she got shot at home ?”
“Derek.. please just come to the hospital.”
Derek hung up on Spencer, all the emotions hitting him at once. He could feel the tears in his eyes but he didn't have time to cry. His only focus was getting to the hospital right now.
The only thing that came to mind was lights.
Derek did just that, he turned on the lights and sped down the road to the hospital. His thoughts took over.
How did this happen? and the one night he just happened to be in church, Penelope got shot.
His Penelope got shot.
Derek didn’t believe in miracles but he hoped they were real that night. He glanced up at the sky as he sped down the road.
“Tonight out of all nights huh? That’s messed up but let her pull through.. please. I can’t lose her” Derek said out loud. He wasn't sure if he was admitting it to himself or if he was talking to someone else, someone out there that could help Penelope but he said it anyways.
It was true, he couldn’t lose her, he’d feel like lost himself if he did.
When he arrived at the hospital, he found Spencer sitting with Emily and JJ. Hotch and Rossi stood by the doors. “Where are you still here ? I thought you were at the apartment” Derek walked over to them, Hotch turned his attention to Derek.
“They don't want us working the case”
“What ? That’s bullshit. Some son of a bitch shot her and we can’t even work the case? You can’t tell me that you’re actually listening to that shit” Derek practically shouted at Hotch.
“I’m trying to figure something out Morgan. I understand you're upset, we all are.” Hotch told him.
When the night was full of terrors
And your eyes were filled with tears
When you had not touched me yet
Oh, take me back to the night we met
Derek almost told Penelope that he loved her. He tells her all the time to be truthful, but like he thought, it didn’t mean anything unless he showed her that it did. He first told her the night she was released from the hospital.
The two of them stood in her apartment after he brought her home. She was a bit on edge, even if she didn’t say it, he could see it.
She had assured him it was okay for him to leave but he refused to leave her side until he knew she’d be safe and the son of a bitch that did that to her was either dead or in jail.
Her back was turned to him, he called for her.
“Hey, I love you, you know that right ?” he asked her, she smiled at him.
“I love you too.”
The second time was during a case in New York. Derek didn’t say he loved her out right but he assumed it was implied.
“Why is it always you ? Why do you always do this?” she asked him, Derek navigated the ambulance through the traffic.
“Garica, talk to me. Where do I turn?” he ignored her question.
“Left, turn left. 30 seconds, get the hell out.”
“Garcia there’s something I want you to know”
“You can tell me afterwards, just get the hell out of there”
“No, hold on let me just tell you”
“Morgan” she warned him, the woman beside her counting down from ten.
“Do you know what you are Garica ?”
The line went silent for a second and the server connected.
“Derek ?” Penelope called out to him, her voice ringing in his ear. The sound of something exploding was the only thing coming through the line.
“Garcia.. I'll tell you what you are to me” Derek’s voice came through. A wave of relief flooded her body but she couldn't help but roll her eyes.
Was this man serious ? Here she was thinking something had happened to him and he’s fine.
“You’re my god given solace”
Penelope sighed, she loved him and it was clear he loved her too but she was mad at him so that would have to wait until another time.
The third time was when he came the closest to really telling her the truth. They were in Alaska and the case was taking a toll on her.
Her red hair caught his eye as he walked down the pathway. He walked up to her, his heart pounding in his chest. Derek wondered if she felt the same way he did.
“I’m proud of you Penelope.” That was one of the rare days that he called her something other than a nickname or Garcia. His hand rested on her shoulder as she talked, admitting to him that she was scared, she didn't want to lose who she was because she had changed for the job.
“It's who you are baby girl, you see the beauty in everyone and everything no matter where you go. That part is never going to change and I won’t let you forget that.”
“I don’t need you to protect me”
“Tough, I think I'll stay on the job a little while longer”
“Yeah ?” she smiled at him, he smiled back as a hum left his mouth.
“How much longer ?” Penelope questions him, “every day of my life”
The two of them were now leaning towards each other. She playfully punched his chest as she leaned forwards and his arm wrapped around her shoulder.
“I kinda love you Derek Morgan”
“I kinda love you Penelope Garcia”
Derek couldn't tell her now, she's probably in a relationship and happy. He wouldn't ruin her happiness because he finally figured out his feelings, he couldn't do that to her.
It didn't lessen the pain nor the heartbreak he felt.
I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Take me back to the night we met
Emily sat in the bullpen with Spencer. It had been close to two hours since Spencer left Derek in Penelope’s old office. “I’m calling her” Emily states as she pulls out her phone.
“Emily..”
“Reid, shut up. I know you can see it too.”
Everyone could see it, even Matt and Luke who were the last two to join the BAU.
Derek Morgan was in love with Penelope Garica.
He was in love with her right now and he always had been.
Spencer listened as Emily told Penelope what was happening. A ‘see you soon’ left Emily’s lips before she hung up. Spencer looked over at her from his chair, Emily just nodded.
--
Derek mentally groaned as someone knocked on the door, “I'm fine, Reid” Derek called out with his back still turned to the door, assuming it was Spencer.
“I’m offended that you would mistake my beautiful body for boy wonder. Not that anything's wrong with him but- oh you get what I mean” a feminine voice spoke to him.
Derek turned the chair around to see the one and only Penelope Garcia standing in the doorway with a smile on her face. She looked just as beautiful as she did the day he met her.
Her white dress with the baby blue pattern on it, her sparkly blue heels and of course, matching jewellery.
She looked like an angel on earth to him.
“Hey handsome, miss me?” she asked, Derek got up and pulled her into a bone-crushing hug which made her laugh. “I’ll take that as a yes” she mumbled with her face buried in his chest.
“You have no idea” Derek replied, kissing the top of her head.
She stepped back from him, their arms still wrapped around each other.
“what are you doing here?” she looked up at him.
“I came to see you, how’d you know I was here?”
“Emily called me”
Derek nodded, Prentiss always had his back in one way or another.
Derek tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, she smiled at him. There was a baby blue streak in her hair, the same colour as the pattern on her dress. The frame of her glasses was slightly darker than the blue on her dress but it looked beautiful on her. Penelope’s eyes shifted from Derek to the picture frame on the desk.
“Where did you find that ?” she picked up the frame.
“Desk drawer”
“I remember this night” she smiled looking down at the picture.
“Me too”
Penelope turned back to Derek, he reached forward and held one of her hands.
“Penelope”
“Derek”
“There’s something I need to tell you. I’ve been meaning to tell you and honestly, I have told you but I- I just need you to know”
“Is everything okay ?”
“I love you” he says
“I love you too” she smiles.
“Penelope, I'm in love with you.” Derek's eyes met Penelope's. Her mouth hung out slightly, she blinked a few times, her eyes focusing on Derek.
“What ?”
“I’m in love with you, I always have been. I’ve been trying to tell you that for years. I never realized that I was until you got shot to tell you the truth. It never occurred to me that I could lose you, you work from the office in your little room of wonders and you’re safe. You had always been safe.”
“Derek I-”
“Baby, let me finish, please”
She nodded and waited for him to go on.
“You were the only consistent thing when I worked here, did you know that ? Every time I left this building, there was a chance I wouldn't come back, you were the reason I wanted to come back. You were the reason I pushed so hard to come back. Penelope Garica, you are my angel, the light of my life, my god given solace, you are my baby girl.” Derek let out a sigh. Penelope looked up at him, “are you done?” and he nodded.
She pulled him into a hug, “it took you long enough” she whispered to him. “I love you too, more than words can explain.”
Derek’s hand cradled her face, “can I kiss you ?” he leaned towards her, his lips inches from hers. “Yes” she mumbled as his lips touched her. Penelope’s heart pounded in her chest, she could only focus on how Derek’s lips felt against hers. Truthfully, she had been dreaming of the day Derek would finally kiss her for years. It was better than she could have ever imagined. It felt as if time stopped and it was only the two of them while the world melted away.
Derek’s eyes open slightly, taking in the woman he had been in love with for so long. The way her eyelashes flutter against her skin and the way her pink blush complemented her pale skin. 15 years of friendship and love had led them to this moment, the moment that would change their lives from this day forward.
After what felt like an eternity, they pulled away from each other. Penelope’s hands clung onto Derek’s shirt like he would vanish if she let go. Her red lipstick smudge and surely there was lipstick on Derek too. Derek smiled at her and she smiled back at him, the two began laughing like school children sharing secrets.
“I think I'll keep my job” Derek mumbled against her lips as he pulled her in for another kiss. Her mind flickering back to their case in Alaska and what he had said to her before they left.
“How much longer are you planning on doing that ?”
“Every single day of my life babygirl.”

Note
Probably not that unpopular of an opinion, but everything else going on exactly as canon, Truth or Dare would have worked of it was between Moreid and Spencer was the one confessing his love to Morgan
literally fucking yes, i want this so bad because it would totally fit in with my moreid timeline. because in my head, the reason they stopped talking when derek left ((spencer was in prison for like three months and derek didn't question the lack of talking until he got a text about prison)) is because they both needed distance after derek had a baby and got married
so my version of truth or dare is that soencer reveals to derek the reason they stopped talking and says that he's always been in love with him ((because spencer doesn't realise they both stopped talking to each other)) but they go about it in a much better way where derek actually sits down and talks to savannah and she says that she's always known and just wants him to be happy, before he talks anymore about it with spencer

Part two Part Three Part Four
MASTERLIST
-----
“Please tell me you’re calling me to go out for drinks at two a.m.” I said before Garcia had the chance to speak on the phone
“Sorry buttercup but we’ve got a case”
“Why can’t we have one weekend uninterrupted?”
Sighing I got off my sofa and headed to my room to get dressed for work
“Because psychopaths and criminals don’t take breaks. Oh, by the way, you guys are meeting on the jet which leaves in thirty minutes, I’ll get you all up to speed there.” She said before the line went dead
After getting dressed, I pulled my hair back into my go to ponytail. Grabbing my go bag and car keys I rushed out the front door, making sure to lock it.
What do you have in store for us psychopaths?
————
“Meet twenty nine year old Savannah Hudson and forty year old Mike Hammond. They were both found dead with their throats slit and hearts removed at Prospect Park, New York.”
As Garcia started catching us up to speed on the case I had my eyes focused on the pictures or the victims.
Savannah had y/h/c past her shoulders and brown eyes while Mike had raven coloured hair that was kept neatly and dark brown eyes.
Something felt familiar about the pair but I can’t seem to put my finger on it.
“Last week the bodies of Ann Marie Brown and Tim Crawford were found nearby the Brooklyn Museum. Same M.O. was used. Throats slit and hearts gone.”
“How old were they Garcia?” Spencer asked
“She was twenty nine and he was forty just like our new victims”
“Clearly he has a type. Specifically men and women who are eleven years apart.” Morgan points out
“They also share the same hair colour as well.”
“Garcia I need you to dig up anything you can find on these four victims. I need to know if they knew each other or if our unsub is randomly choosing his victims.” Hotch ordered which made me shift my gaze to him.
Even with tired eyes he’s still sexy
Snap out of it he’s your boss AND the man that broke your heart a few months ago!!
“Dave and JJ you guys talk to the families, see if we can get any further information” Hotch started giving us orders
“Morgan, Prentiss and y/l/n you guys take the crime scene, see if there’s anything NYPD missed” we nodded
“Reid and I will set up at the station”
“Guys, NYPD just found two more bodies at the other end of the park” Garcia popped up on the monitor
————
“Okay, there’s no blood at the crime scene which means he killed them at another location and moved their bodies here.” I said as Emily came closer to me
“The male who found the bodies said that he was out for his run when he saw them.”
I stooped down to have a closer look at the laceration on the male victim
“The unsub knew what he was doing. One clean cut severed his carotid artery. He was dead before he even knew what was happening.”
“They’re also ligature marks on their wrists and ankles. I’m guessing he used ropes to tie them up.”
“Had to make sure he had complete control of his victims”
Sighing I stood up and looked at my surroundings. It has been almost a year since I haven’t been at this park. Shame to see a place that was once your safe place turn into the complete opposite.
“You know, he still looks at you the same” she piped up
“Not now Emily, we’ve got a case”
“I’ll admit he was a dick for breaking up with you and getting together with what’s her name so soon” she went on
Snapping my head in her direction I shot her my nastiest glare
“Can you not? He broke up with me Emily so just stop. I don’t care how he looks at me. When we’re on the clock he’s my boss and when we’re not, we’re civil enough for Jack’s liking.”
Out of the entire team Emily was the only one who knew about the relationship between Aaron and I. She found out when she had showed up to my place unannounced and interrupted our sexy time.
After that night she promised to keep our secret which she did.
“Okay I’ll drop it” she sighed, giving up
“Thank you, now let’s focus”
“So the other crime scene looked similar to this one over here. Bodies were dumped in the open, no blood on the scene.” Morgan came and joined us
His phone started ringing and he answered
“Hey baby girl behave I have you on speaker”
“You’re no fun” Garcia said which caused us to smile
“The toxicology report came in from the M.E. office. Turns out there were traces of Diazepam in their systems”
“Which explains how he got to restrain them so easily”
“Another thing, so far all the victims has either police and FBI training.”
“They dropped out?”
“They didn’t meet the requirement needed to graduate”
“This has got to be some form of vendetta against law enforcement” I suggested
“Y/l/n is right. Maybe the unsub felt like they got mistreated by law enforcement or at least at the hands of someone who was in training”
“Garcia I need you to see if there’s anything that happened on this day at this park. There has got to be a reason for the unsub choosing here as their dump sight” I heard the clicking of keys before she grunted
“Sorry sugar, nada”
“Well then it’s a personal reason for the unsub”
“Whoever our unsub is they’re moving quickly. Thank you baby girl” he hung up the phone and shoved it into his pocket
“Let’s head to the station we’ll fill in Hotch and Reid when we get there”
————
“Agent Prentiss, we have a gentleman here to see you. He said you told him to come in for further questioning”
I lifted my head up to see the person the officer was speaking about to have my breathing stop for a second
Liam
“Oh yes, right this way Mr Evans” Emily jumped up and escorted my ex into an interrogation room down the hall
What the hell?
Last time I checked he was in Miami
Not wasting any time I walked down to the interrogation room and watched the interview from the outside
“How long have you lived in New York Mr Evans?” Emily satrted
“Almost a year ago”
“When I spoke to you at the park you said that you run there every morning”
“I do”
He sat there, cool and collected. No nail picking, no tapping his feet on the ground, no nothing.
Emily asked him a few follow up questions before it was over. They exited and he smiled at me before leaving the station.
“Is it just me or did that went way too smooth?” I asked Emily
She shrugged and headed out
Shaking off the bad vibe I had, I made my way back to our workspace where Reid filled us in on the unsubs comfort zone and how he may be abducting his victims.
“Okay everyone, I think we should call it a night. Let’s get to the hotel and come back with fresh eyes in the morning” Hotch said after noticing me struggling to keep my eyes open
Relieved I gathered my stuff and headed out with the others to the SUV.
————
“Where are you going it’s late?” I froze with my hand on the doorknob before looking over to Emily who was on her bed
“Just need some fresh air I’ll be back in a few”
Mumbling she rolled over and went to sleep as I exited the hotel room.
I don’t even know where I’m headed but my legs are taking me somewhere
Something isn’t adding up and it’s bugging me. Why law enforcement and why the eleven year age gap?
HOLY FUCK!
Without looking at the time I fished my phone out my pocket and dialed Garcia’s number.
“I love you but I was now about to go to bed”
“Sorry boo but I need you”
The rustling of sheets were heard and the sound of her laptop stating up filled my ear
“What do you need?”
“Could you tell me if all the victims were ever in a relationship or had a fling at one point?”
“Give me a second, yeah they did, how did you even think to come up with that?”
Ignoring her question I quickly thanked her and hung up.
There is no way he could be our unsub
You’ve been doing this job way to long to be this naive
Before I even knew what was happening I felt a sting on my shoulder and a hand covered my mouth.
My vision blurred as I became drowsy. The owner of the hand threw me over their shoulder and put me into the back of what I presume is a panel van. That’s all I picked up before I was consumed in complete darkness.

Double The Surprise
MASTERLIST
Prequel to Thing 1 and Thing 2
Surprise! A new fic, two days in a row? I know, who am I? This was an anon request to do a gender reveal party of the twins from Thing 1 and Thing 2, so I made it sort of a prequel. I’ve linked the fic in case you haven’t read it. One thing to note, I included Diana, but in a more normal state so no Alzheimer's or schizophrenia. I’ve wanted to write something where she was free of any illnesses, so I added her in this like that. Besides, she’d DEFINITELY be there. Also, take a shot every time I say pink and blue, lord I was getting tired of saying that myself so sorry about that. Enjoy some Spencer and the team cuteness. Happy reading!

You knew it was a mistake to let Penelope be in charge.
Not that she was bad at it at all, in fact she was wonderful. But when she had a secret that she actually wanted to keep a surprise, her lips were sealed tighter than your old jeans.
Penelope Garcia—the technical analyst at the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit and your husband, Spencer Reid’s teammate, coworker and friend—was the best at planning parties. Which is how she had gotten you and Spencer excited about the idea of a potential gender reveal party for the baby you and Spencer were expecting this fall.
You were currently 21 weeks and a bit larger than normal, although your doctor wasn’t worried. She had explained it could be due to the baby being bigger—your husband was over 6 feet after all—or perhaps you were a bit further along in your pregnancy than she first thought. Either way, at the last appointment, she had assured you that everything was looking fine.
The last appointment was also when you were able to find out the sex of the baby.
Since you and Spencer really wanted to have a gender reveal party with your friends and the other team members of the BAU, you had invited Garcia to come along to the appointment. She would be informed of the sex and also have the results handed to her in a manila envelope, for the baker who would create the cake.
You were regretting your decision though because you were currently dying to know what baby Reid would be. It was amazing though, Garcia hadn’t even breathed the hint of a clue.
She was the worst person to keep a secret, so it was ironic when she refused to give into your pleading.
The gender reveal party was going to be this upcoming weekend, still a few days away and you were struggling with the anticipation.
The party details and planning helped curb your desire to know, though.
When Garcia had first suggested the idea, not long after you and Spencer announced your pregnancy, you were slightly hesitant about it. You didn’t know much about them or if anyone would even come. With the help of Penelope and her promise to take care of everything, you started coming around to the idea.
She was an excellent party planner because even though she took care of everything, she left plenty of room for you and Spencer to decide on details and things you wanted. Many nights were spent laying in bed, the two of you looking at gender reveal party ideas on Pinterest.
You actually thought Spencer was more excited for this party then you were. It was nice to know he was just as excited for it, though.
“Do you think she’d cave and tell us what we’re having if we surprise her with a red velvet cupcake?” you’d asked Spencer, one night that week.
“It’d probably be tempting for her, but I doubt it,” he answered you, “In fact, I’m surprised she’s kept quiet this long. She’s the worst at keeping secrets.”
“I know. I had her pegged to tell us within a day,” you huffed.
Spencer chuckled, kissing your head.
“Just think, it will be worth the wait when we find out what we’re having on Saturday.”
Surprisingly, Saturday did come rather fast. Although at the same time, it felt like eons to you.
You were bursting with excitement for the party, which was to be held at David Rossi’s house.
Garcia had given you and Spencer strict instructions to not arrive until after 2 pm. She, with the help of her boyfriend Luke Alvez we’re going to be setting up everything for the party to keep the final display a surprise as well.
You were just as eager to wear the new outfit that Garcia had bought for you to wear—she really had thought of everything.
You had to admit, the ensemble was pretty cute.
You’d dressed in the sleeveless maxi dress that was designed in an alternating pink and blue chevron style and white flats that were partially hidden by the long skirt of the dress. Your bump was fully on display in the outfit, but it just made the dress seem even cuter.
It also helped that it was extremely comfy as well.
The finishing touch for the outfit was a flower crown. Yes, a flower crown. Garcia went all out when she did things, that’s for sure.
It was a thin band of flowers that sat nicely on your head. One side was decorated with pink flowers while the other half had blue. With the entire outfit complete, you had to admit, Garcia definitely had picked a cute ensemble.
Spencer had come in just as you’d finished getting ready and whistled, making you blush.
“Why if it isn’t the sexiest baby mama around,” he grinned slyly, wrapping his arms around you from behind, “You look beautiful, Y/N.”
“You look rather charming yourself,” you chuckled.
His appearance wasn’t that much different than it was from his work attire. His suit pants and dress shirt were the same as usual, but Garcia had gotten him a pink and blue chevron tie to match your dress.
“Not exactly something I’d wear every day, but I like it,” he smiled, “Ready to find out what our baby is?”
“More than ever.”
The first thing you saw when entering Rossi’s backyard was a sign on the iron gate door to his backyard.
There were a handful of pink and blue cardboard, cutout circles hanging on the gate door, along with a pink and blue cutout onesie that said We’re here for the sex. It made you laugh. This definitely had Garcia written all over it.
“I’m sure Rossi is thrilled with that hanging on his gate door,” Spencer laughed.
He took your hand and pushed the gate open into a pink and blue wonderland.
You gasped as the two of you walked further into the backyard. Not only was the actual decorations and set up amazing, but the turnout was just as shocking.
The entire team was there; Emily Prentiss, Matt Simmons, his wife Kristy and all five kids—you’d specifically told Penelope that all the BAU kids were welcomed, you had a special place in your heart for them, just as she did.
JJ was there with her husband Will and her two boys Henry and Michael. Tara Lewis was there as well, always ready for a get together. Of course David Rossi was there as well with his third wife Krystall that he’d recently married again.
Luke and Penelope were of course in attendance, but what surprised you most was seeing the unexpected and surprise guests that Garcia had most definitely arranged to show up.
Former Unit Chief Aaron Hotchner was there with Jack, who was now taller than you. They both greeted you with a hug and their congratulations. Jack said he was mostly excited for cake and you couldn’t argue with that.
Derek Morgan, wife Savannah and little Hank Spencer Morgan had made it too. These kids were growing faster than you would like because now little Hank was 4 quickly approaching 5.
“Pretty boy!” Morgan greeted, hugging Spencer tightly, “It’s about time you became a father.”
You greeted Savannah and Hank, who was in his mother’s arms, suddenly a lot shyer than normal. After speaking to them both for a minute, they too went back to socializing with the others.
What was most surprising was seeing your parents and Spencer’s mom, Diana Reid.
“Mom! Dad!” you exclaimed, hugging them.
“Mom!” Spencer said, hugging Diana, “I’m so glad you could make it.”
“You think I was going to miss my grandbaby’s first party? I think not,” she grinned.
After greeting your parents, you hugged Diana yourself.
“It’s so good to see you Mrs. Reid,” you kissed her cheek.
It had been a little bit since you’d last traveled to Las Vegas with Spencer to visit her, not long after you’d married. Before that, you’d seen her at the wedding.
“Oh honey, you know I told you to call me Diana,” she beamed, “You’re the Mrs. Reid around here. How are you feeling?”
She rubbed a hand across your belly and you smiled.
“Feeling rather large, if I do say so myself,” you chuckled.
“Well there’s a good reason for that,” she winked, making your brows furrow in confusion.
Garcia was just on her way over to the three of you as Diana spoke and suddenly, she sped up, rushing over.
“Diana! How about I get you some punch and refreshments!” Garcia exclaimed, leading Diana away.
She turned to you and Spencer as she led his mother away.
“Take some time and look around before we do the reveal!” Garcia hollered.
“Come on, I wanna check things out,” you told Spencer.
You were beaming so big that he couldn’t help but chuckle and indulge you. He was pretty curious to check out everything too.
First off, there were pink and blue balloons everywhere.
At the table where the food and refreshments were at, were gold letter balloons that spelled out the phrase Oh baby.
The actual food spread was rather impressive too. There were finger sandwiches of chicken salad, turkey and ham, mixed nuts, vegetable plates with dip and of course, much to your delight was Alvez’s homemade salsa and guacamole, along with chips to dip. You’d be eating good this afternoon, that’s for sure.
The sweets were all gender themed, which was an adorable touch.
There were blue and pink chocolate covered strawberries, blue and pink cake pops—a mustache on the blue cake pop sticks and a bow on the pink ones—and hilariously enough, there were M&Ms in two bowls. One with peanuts were labeled Nuts and the other with plain was labeled No Nuts, hence the mystery of the baby’s sex.
“That’s ingenious,” Spencer commented, laughing, grabbing a handful of some.
There were blue plates with matching napkins and pink plates with pink napkins, along with alternating blue and pink jars that held the opposing color of plastic ware in them.
At the very end of the refreshments table sat two huge glass jugs with spigots filled with blue and pink drinks. The blue was named Bouncing Blue Punch whereas the pink was Sweet Pink Lemonade.
“Wow, Luke and Penelope really went all out,” you gaped, amazed.
“And you haven’t even seen the best parts,” Garcia said, seemingly appearing out of thin air next to you, “Come on!”
She tugged on your arm excitedly, dragging you to another section of the party. You laughed, trying to keep up with her, looking behind you at a grinning Spencer who was following behind the two of you.
The first thing she had to show you, made you tear up thanks to the damn pregnancy hormones.
It was a canvas of animals in a little hot air balloon and the “balloons” were made up of thumbprints from all the guests, in the color of their guess of the baby’s gender. Even the kids had all done one.
There were a variety of pink and blue thumbprints, each one signed by the person. At the bottom of the canvas it read: Oh the places you’ll go.
“We all made our guesses and I put this together a week ago so it would be dry and ready to display for today,” Garcia beamed.
“I love it,” you said, your hand covering your mouth, still shocked at how beautiful it was, “Spence, this is going up in the nursery for sure.”
“Definitely,” he nodded, looking at it himself.
“This is amazing. Thank you, Garcia,” you breathed.
“Oh honey, we’re just getting started on the tour. Come on, there’s more to see.”
The next display was another interactive guessing game.
This was a chalkboard that read Twinkle, Twinkle, little star. How we wonder what you are!
One side of the board represented the boy votes and the other represented the girl votes.
“This is where everyone was able to vote as they came in with their guess,” she said.
You looked closer. So far a girl was winning by two.
“I also included two more interactive little games,” Garcia said, leading you to two more chalkboards.
One had Guess The Date written on it and the entire month of September written out. Your due date was approximately September 25th, which was listed at the top and sticky notes covered the dates of different attendee’s guesses on when the baby would arrive.
“Oh that is super cute,” you laughed.
Your eyes scanned over the numerous guesses.
Some had guessed as early as September 6th and others had guessed as late as September 30th.
“Pinterest, I’m telling you,” Garcia quipped.
The next board had a list of girls and boys names. Underneath the board and easel on each side was a basket, in the matching colors, slips of paper inside.
“This here is where the guests have tried to guess what your number one name for a boy and a girl is,” Garcia explained.
“So that explains why you asked for our top name for a boy and a girl,” Spencer mused.
“Yup.”
You looked at each column. There were a total of five names on each side.
The boys’ column included:
Carl
Aidan
Luke
Alexander
Matthew
The girls’ column included:
Daisy
Abrielle
Gabriella
Penelope
Paige
“Penelope? Luke?” you chuckled.
“Hey, for all they know you could be naming a kid after us!” she protested.
You smiled, seeing yours and Spencer’s top two picks on the lists—Abrielle for a girl or Alexander for a boy.
“Last but not least,” Garcia beamed, “You gotta see the cake. It’s amazing.”
The three of you walked to a table in the middle of the party where there were two chairs and a cake resting on the table.
“Obviously since it’s baby Reid, you two will be the center of attention,” Penelope said.
On the table was a beautiful cake decorated with blue and pink icing roses. One side was strictly pink roses and the other blue. The finishing touch was the various sized edible pearls that had been delicately placed in the center of each flower.
You audibly gasped.
“Penelope, it’s gorgeous!”
“Isn’t it though? I was in awe when I picked it up,” she commented.
“So the inside will be the reveal, right?” Spencer asked.
“Yes sir,” she smiled, “You guys ready to find out the gender?”
“Yes, please!”
You were practically bouncing on your heels like a child eagerly awaiting candy.
“First, I wanted to give you guys a little gift,” Garcia said, rushing over to the table where Luke sat, holding a gift bag.
“Garcia, you know we said no gifts!” you protested.
“Yeah, I know. But you know me,” she scurried back over, handing you the bag, “I can’t keep huge secrets.”
“What are you talking about?” you laughed, opening the bag.
Inside was a simple, cute, white baby onesie.
On the front, it said We’re having a baby! with the word baby scratched out.
“Why’s the word baby crossed out?” Spencer asked, peering over your shoulder at it.
He seemed to be just as puzzled as you were.
“Wait, there’s something else in the bag,” you observed, reaching in to pull out the second object.
It was a second white onesie that read Make that TWO babies!
“I couldn’t keep such a big secret obviously, so I told the entire team and they wanted to chip in on a present to announce it to you—this isn't all the gift though.”
You were stunned beyond belief and absolutely overjoyed.
“Twins?! Spence, did you hear that? We’re having twins!”
You turned to see your husband as white as a ghost, starting to sway.
“I-I-I think I need to sit for a moment,” he stammered, falling into the nearby metal folding chair.
“Spence, you okay?”
You rushed to his side—as fast as your pregnant body would let you, that.
“Yeah, fine,” he muttered, still looking dazed, “Everything just started spinning there for a moment.”
Garcia was by his side with an unused paper plate, fanning him, just in case he was actually going to pass out.
The rest of the party’s eyes were on the spectacle, all of them clearly amused.
“Who knew the kid could create twins! Even his sperm is brilliant,” Derek hollered.
Everyone laughed at that and the fact that Savannah immediately stuck a sandwich in his mouth to quiet him.
“There are kids here, Derek!” she whispered loudly.
“Twins, huh?” Spencer asked.
The poor thing looked dumbstruck.
“You sure you’re okay Spencer?” you asked, worried.
It’s like it took him a moment for it to finally sink in because he turned to you, a big grin on his face.
“Y/N, we’re having twins!”
He grabbed your face, kissing you, not caring about all the onlookers. You turned scarlet when he pulled away, a tad bit embarrassed that everyone was watching, but you were just as happy as him, so you couldn’t complain.
“My baby boy is going to have twins,” Diana smiled, coming over to wrap her son in a hug, “I was so excited when I heard that I almost ruined the surprise earlier!”
“Oh so that’s what you meant?” you asked, laughing.
That was definitely a good reason for you to be larger than normal. Your body was home to not one but two babies for the next little while.
“You knew, mom?” Spencer asked.
“Oh of course, Penelope called everyone,” Diana answered.
“You know I can’t keep a secret!” Garcia exclaimed, “This was my biggest one yet! It was the only way I could make it without bursting.”
“Speaking of everyone else,” JJ said, bringing up another, slightly larger gift bag, “This is from all of us, Hotch and Morgan included.”
“You wanna open it?” you asked Spencer.
He shook his head, indicating you could, so you did.
You pulled out a long, wood, plaque that read:
Our family is growing by
4 feet
and
2 hearts
At the bottom, there was an engraving.
Reid Twins
It was absolutely perfect.
There were definitely tears on your end as you made your rounds hugging everyone and saying your thank yous.
You made your way back to the center table to Garcia, who you gave another huge hug.
“Thank you so much for putting together such an amazing party,” you said.
“It was my pleasure,” she smiled.
“Cut the cake already!” Both Jack and Henry hollered simultaneously, making everyone chuckle.
“I can’t argue with that, now can I?” you responded.
You managed to pull Spencer away from the conversation he was having with some of the guests and you both put your hands on the knife, cutting through the cake. It reminded you of your wedding reception, but this was ten times more exciting; you were expanding your family with the man you were in love with.
The entire backyard counted down.
“THREE!”
You looked over at Spencer, a big smile on your face. At this point, you didn’t think much more could surprise you than the news of having twins.
“TWO!”
He winked at you, silently reassuring you that no matter what the result, you two would raise these babies as a team.
“ONE!”
You both lifted up the slice, revealing a two layer cake; one layer was pink and one was blue.
“It’s a boy and a girl!” Spencer cheered.
You were pretty sure this day couldn’t get any better.
You and Spencer would soon be welcoming fraternal twins; Abrielle Jade Reid and Spencer Alexander Reid.
Little Abbie and Alex were going to be incredibly loved.

Note
okay I DEFINITELY want to see you rank your favorite BAU characters
oh boy oh boy oh boy i’m TOAST--
1.) Emily Prentiss: This woman was my gay awakening and I’m still madly in love with her. All of my original works when I was in middle school featured a character who was basically Emily Prentiss under a different name, and she still is easily in my second favorite fictional character of all time.
2.) Spencer Reid: Spencer was the first character I ever saw on screen who loved learning as much as I did and made me realize there’s no shame in being intelligent or in craving knowledge. I’ve been compared to Spencer since my family first started watching the show when I was a kid, and we share a name, so that’s that.
3.) Aaron Hotchner: I projected all of my insecurities onto Hotch when I was a kid. When I watched his relationship with Haley fall apart on screen, I felt that in my very bones. I cried with him upon her death and raised Jack with him and even though I was long out of the fandom when TG was fired, I was still devastated to hear that he was being forced to leave. His ship with Reid was the first gay ship I ever connected to, and together, they were the first characters to ever teach me that people are gay and it’s okay. The one thing I do dislike about Hotch is how he’s implied to be wickedly intelligent, but it never gets, like, followed through with? The implication that he graduated law school at nineteen or twenty asserts that this man graduated high school when he was sixteen or younger, that he sped through undergrad and was able to get accepted into one of the most prestigious law schools in the country and graduated early and was an incredibly successful lawyer and prosecutor. He worked personal security, SWAT, he did a stent in Seattle, before he became leader of the BAU at twenty-seven years old. Hotch is, in all likelihood, a child prodigy of his own right, and it never gets mentioned because Spencer’s academic accomplishments are more impressive (and I could take this space to do a whole character study on why I think Hotch stopped his pursuit of academia, but I won’t waste my own time, lol).
4.) Elle Greenaway/Alex Blake: I love both of these ladies so I had to include them. Elle was done dirty by the canon and I adored her work in season one and the unique sensitivity she brought to the field when the BAU was still, as one unsub described it, “a boy’s club.” Alex took a little longer to grow on me (mostly because I was super bitter about Emily being gone that I didn’t want to like her), but the relationship she nurtured with Spencer was like no other, and her submitting her resignation to him instead of her direct superior gets me in the feels every time I watch it.
5.) Erin Strauss: Strauss is another character done wrong by the canon, and I’m so furious and bitter for her still. I loved watching her grow from a stern politician into someone who genuinely cared about the BAU as part of her family and would do anything to protect them. It was true character development that she went from trying to come for Hotch’s job in season two to deliberately fabricating paperwork to try to catch the Replicator in season eight, the latter which she did without informing anyone because she knew it could put them in danger. Watching her grow close to the team, watching Alex forgive her for her transgressions and become bonded with Rossi and Hotch, I really thought we were going to have an awesome thing going in later seasons, and I was devastated when I saw that it was all poorly written build up just so the writers could snatch the rug out from under us when they killed her off. She gave her life to protect the BAU and I’m going to work to redeem her character in my pieces. (This is an Erin Strauss AND Haley Hotchner defense blog, leave my ladies alone.)
6.) Dave Rossi: I sometimes take issue with Rossi’s character because he can be so damn arrogant and in early seasons seems to think he’s God’s gift to profiling, but I’m so fond of him for his nurturing relationship with the other characters. He doesn’t believe himself to have any family (of course we find out later he has a daughter, but besides that) so he takes it upon himself to make himself the father of the team. We see this dynamic with Emily and Spencer the most, with Morgan to some degree, with Ashley Seaver a lot (one of the only things I loved about Seaver’s presence in S6), and even with Jack’s little league team. Rossi who will do anything and everything for his team because those are his kids, dammit.
7.) Penelope Garcia: Penelope is my little ray of sunshine! I love sweet and special headcanons about her and how she keeps up with the team and brings joy to their lives. We share a love for cats, and her origin story always makes me chuckle, especially the opening scene where she says, “I am a psychopath,” and Hotch says, “No, you’re not.” Her relationship with Morgan brings me joy, though I’m still frustrated with the canon for not following through on that and making it “just talk.” I also disliked how canon handled her relationship with Kevin. I love Penelope as a character, but there were some moments that I thought were not written very well for her which is why she isn’t higher up on the list.
8.) Jason Gideon: I know it’s popular to drag Gideon in this fandom, but I like him a lot, and I think his downfall played into the team very well in the end when it led to Rossi’s joining the team. He had some of my favorite moments, especially when he chose to save the school children rather than apprehend Frank (I like to imagine what the other characters would have done in his shoes if Frank had fixated on them instead) and when he saved Billie Copeland while everyone else was prepared to throw in the towel. I like his dynamic with the team and how they (other than Spencer) lose faith in him from the pilot and then gain it back slowly. I enjoy how he interacts with Spencer and teaches him things on screen. I do take issue with his allowing Spencer to view him as a father figure when he knows that that is what Spencer desperately needs and I think Gideon, as compassionate as he is, can be unintentionally manipulative and quite harmful. Still, I think he’s a very intriguing character and I regret we didn’t get more of him.
9.) JJ: It’s not that I dislike JJ actively (though if you had asked me ten years ago, I probably would’ve said I did). I find JJ’s character incredibly difficult to relate to because, much like I mentioned with Penelope above, she is a victim of bad writing. Unlike Penelope, JJ’s bad writing is damn near ubiquitous from the time Henry is born until the end of the show. She can’t be in a scene with a victim or a family member without bringing up her family, and every time she shows her actual personality, it gets followed up with, “I’m also a mom!” I don’t relate to women whose entire lives revolve around their children, so finding any common ground with me and JJ is extraordinarily difficult. More than that, I abhor her relationship with Will and how Will was allowed to treat her so incredibly poorly and not only does the fandom worship him and never call him out--the writers acted like JJ was in the wrong. It drives me absolutely insane that Will and Haley treated their partners in the exact same way, their character arcs line up almost perfectly, but Will winds up happily married to JJ with two kids and Haley gets to bleed out on the floor of her own home while her husband clutches her dead body and weeps. This storyline is just part of the misogyny in the Criminal Minds canon, and though I like JJ, I have a hard time seeing past all of it to form a good bond with her. Fanon JJ > Canon JJ.
10.) Derek Morgan: Derek is a character who I think had a lot of wasted potential. He’s the expert on obsessional crimes--never mentioned again. He’s the expert on explosives--mentioned two or three times. Chicago PD? We never get any information as to how he went from PD to FBI. Derek is such a wildly intelligent man, we know that, but much like Hotch, his intelligent gets forgotten in exchange for Spencer to exposit at random, except his is even more pronounced than Hotch’s. After the first few seasons, the writers just treated him like the brawn of the BAU with no other expertise or presence, and I hate that for him--it was such a criminal injustice against his character. Unlike JJ, I do love Derek (my feelings for JJ are generally neutral leaning toward positive--I adore Derek Morgan) but the writers did him so dirty. I don’t like his relationship with Savannah at all. As a CSA survivor, his whole CSA storyline generally bugs the hell out of me because it only gets mentioned when the writers want to go boohoo Derek has trust issues or have an excuse to say “hurrdurr buff guy hates pedophiles” and he’s never shown having any meaningful struggle with his trauma (can be said of most of the trauma in the show) or having any character development (he’s often criticized for not trusting the team as much as he should but he never grows from it). Derek is a character I’m very protective of, but as much as I love his relationships with Spencer, Penelope, and Emily, I just can’t defend the ways the writers let him down so grievously.

Quantico Hope
Based on the text post created by @criminalmindsgonewrong so lots of praise goes to her (if not for the idea than because she’s a queen and I love her content). All of my medical scenes came from E.R, Grey’s Anatomy, or Chicago Hope so don’t come for me. Hotchniss is the main ship, warning for language
Emily Prentiss wakes up in a stranger’s bed. The comforter is thick, soft but the pattern is something only a bachelor would choose. It’s a flannel pattern, blue flannel. Knowing that no woman would willingly buy it is a small comfort. She’d never done it on purpose but she can still think of more than one occasion in which a one night stand came to a crashing halt as a spouse made their existence known. She had been chased from quite a few apartments half-dressed.
Topless, she wraps the sheets around her breast as she sits up. Her John is laying on his side and she has to lean close to see his face. She peaks over his shoulder but her quick movement catches nothing but thick brown hair and a five o’clock shadow. It does nothing to spur her memory so she places a hand on his hip to stabilize herself as she leans over him.
“Fuck,” she grunts, pushing herself back away from him.
On her back, hand slapped on her forehead she breathes out a shaky sigh. “No, no, no,” she rolls off the bed. Blindly scooping up her things on the floor. Waking up in a stranger’s bed can be disorienting but waking up in a bed that is unfamiliar with your best friend sleeping right beside you- so, so much worse. This is all Jennifer Jareau’s fault. Her and her stupid sentiments about how one more drink can’t possibly hurt.
She hears a groggy groan from the bed and she winces as she draws her arms to her chest. It’s instinct to squint her eyes, her subconscious encouraging the childish idea that if she can’t see him he can’t see her. As still as she can, frozen in her spot she waits for him to move.
She is beyond relief when he sighs and settles back down.
This time, she tiptoes, now far more conscious of the noise she’s making. Her eyes sweep the floor, searching for her lost bra. She’s missing a sock too but she can leave a sock here and not think twice about it but a bra?
Last night is mostly a blur. She has a faint memory of his hand cupping her bare breast.
“Hotch,” she breathes against his neck. She’s working his belt off, letting him attack her neck. “Jesus,” his pants fall to the floor, weighed down by his useless belt. Her mouth opens to make a comment about how hard he is but the rough pads of his fingers cup her breast and she arches into the touch.
“Are you sure?” He whispers. “I don’t want you to-”
Both of her hands wrap around his neck, pulling him into a kiss. “Trust me,” she says, breathlessly. “I want this.” She’s wanted it for as long as she’s known him but he was married. So, she stuck to being his friend. His sounding board. “God,” she’s standing in his room, his rough hands pulling her panties to the side to work a finger inside her.
He pushes her onto the bed, laughing that silly laugh that makes her chest ache, and for the first time in her life, she’s able to kiss him. She shares his goofy joy and she can feel him smiling as he kisses her tenderly. It occurs to her that their quick drunk fuck isn’t going to be so simple. His eyes are sober and his actions are soft.
His lips start to wander and her stomach flutters as he kisses her hip bones. He looks up at her suggestively, his hands spreading her thighs. He kisses the inside of her thigh, smiling as she can’t control the way they shake.
“Aaron!”
Emily shudders as she’s pulled from the memory, heart pounding as he groans from beneath the mound of comforter he’s curled under.
The sheets rustle and Emily turns from the door to watch Hotch bolt upright in the bed. He’s on his feet in a flash, stumbling to the bathroom. He’s not of the state of mind to shut the door behind him so she hears as he gags and vomits into the toilet.
She closes her eyes and curses him. She can’t leave him alone and if the clock on his nightstand is right, she’s got three hours before she’s due for rounds anyway. Which means, she’s just an awful friend to leave him like this.
“That was gross,” she leans against the bathroom door frame. “You got a little-” she pats the side of her lip. She’s grinning ear-to-ear at his expense. He may be her best friend but it’s still far and in-between when she gets to see him so human. Without the white coat and stoic frown, he can be himself. He can be the stressed-out single father, going through a tough divorce, who spends nearly all of his waking hours depriving himself of comfort.
He drops his forehead against the cool toilet lid and groans. Wrapping a hand around his stomach, he curls his long legs beneath him. “Why are you being mean to me?” He rubs at his mouth, disgusted when his fingers find a bit of vomit on his lip. It makes his stomach roll with a vengeance that makes his head pound mercilessly. He ends up, gagging miserably again, nothing coming up.
“Alright,” Emily steps in, rubbing at his back. She stands beside him, rubbing his back until he pulls his head up. “Let’s get back to bed,” she hooks her arm under his. It takes a moment, he doesn’t want to let her help him. She doesn’t relent and he caves, allowing her to ease him to his feet.
She’s pretty tall for a woman but getting him to his feet is nothing short of a small feat. "Jesus, " she grunts. He stumbles, leaning heavily on her. Everyone had noticed the weight he dropped after Haley filed for divorce. She can barely keep him on his feet now, she'd hate to have had to do it three months ago. "You're heavy!"
Hotch stops, glaring down at her. It’s a mystery to her how he can look exhausted, nauseated, and angry at the same time. He puffs like an angry little fish, strangely cute. “Are you saying I’m fat?” He makes a failed attempt to stand up straighter, making a soft grunting noise as his stomach revolts against the idea.
Emily rolls her eyes, drama queen. “No,” she pushes him onto the bed. “You’re just a giant.” He bounces as he sits, frown set right in place. “Aaron,” she puts her hand on her hips and frowns right back at him. “Just take a nap, nurse your hangover, and remember to be in at ten when your shift starts.” She pats his shoulder and plants a kiss on his forehead. “I’ll bring you a coffee, huh?”
He yawns, grimacing as his head and stomach both protest. Sleepily, he rubs at his eyes, laying back on his bed. “I gotta…” he yawns mid-sentence. “Going to a parent-teacher meeting.”
She tries very hard not to look completely devastated. “Oh,” so no coffee. “Okay, I’ll see you after that then.”
He nods, “and I’ll bring the coffee.”
__________
Last Friday when Aaron had cornered Dave and asked him to cover some basic stuff for him, Dave imagined he’d be doing some rounds, picking up after an intern, or fussing with an attending. He hadn’t expected a very specific, in-depth list of things for him to do:
8 a.m. take Reid to check-in on patients (keep communication at a minimal)
8: 30 a.m. bust Savannah Hayes (the nurse from the Emergency Room) and Derek Morgan in the second-floor on-call room
8:45 a.m. bring Garcia a non-fat almond milk vanilla lattee--
The man has stones… and that wasn’t even half the list. There are annotations, they came color-coded with sticky notes on additional pointers. Thumbing through the several pages worth of notes and instructions, Rossi shakes his head. Of course, he knows his old prodigy is a busy man. As much as he would like to think he’s what keeps this hospital on its feet… Aaron has a lot to do with it, too.
He’s got a knack for running into trouble just as it’s happening and juggling fixing the problem with making sure it never happens again. Which, in this hospital,-- a cesspool of one night stands, rule-bending, and overbearing masculinity-- makes him a very valuable member for the good side. Good meaning one of the few members of staff without his hands in another staff member's pants.
The problem is, Dave’s hardly got the time to comply with the whole list of nonsense demands Aaron wants him running about doing. He loves Aaron dearly, the boy is like his son but he’s a bit anal-retentive and Dave just… well, he doesn’t want to do all of this stuff. The hospital isn’t going to fall apart if he doesn’t meet every single thing on this list.
Well… hypothetically, right?
“Where’s Hotch?”
Rossi steps out of his office and finds Reid standing on the other side, weirdly close. “Woah,” he takes a step back when the genius doesn’t. He shakes his head, folding the list in his hand in half before regarding the doctor in his doorway. “Reid,” he acknowledges, stepping around the genius, and shutting his office door behind him. “I believe we’ve got rounds to attend to, correct?”
Brainbox is what a few members of staff have taken to calling the young genius. Hotch had made a point to talk to the other leading heads in departments to make sure they weren’t calling Reid that and for the most part, that had slowed down the spreading of the nickname. Dave understands why Hotch got ahead of that problem but on the same hand, it’s kind of fitting.
Reid nods, looking around Rossi and into his dark office. “Yeah but Hotch always takes me.” Technically, taking Reid on rounds is supposed to be Dave’s job. Hotch just made time for it. If Hotch times everything just right, he can get Reid on the second floor near the on-call room to bust Derek and Savannah with enough time to get Garcia her coffee and have time to swing by the cardiac wing and say hi to Emily.
Speaking of--
“What are you two doing down here?” Emily and JJ are standing where Dave is supposed to be, a smooth-talking Derek and meek looking Savannah standing between the pairs. Which means that the pair busted the couple before Dave could. It burns Dave. That skinny little runt. That bastard. Hotch has Emily on the same hunt as him because Hotch doesn't think Dave would do the list.
He’s right but… still, it kinda hurts.
Emily isn’t wearing her signature smirk. For once, she’s got a one-up on him and she’s not biting. Something’s got her down. She offers a simple tight-lipped nod. “Hotch has me trailing you,” she informs him and Rossi understands exactly what it is that’s bothering her or better yet who. “He just doesn’t want the hospital burning down.”
So much for Dave’s earlier sentiment of Hotch keeping his hands to himself. Now, what’s he to do? He’s pissed that Aaron has hurt Emily but they’re both like his kids. What he needs to do is strangle for being stupid. Aaron for never outright telling anyone how he feels and Emily for letting men hurt her.
God, they just… The little idiots get under his skin like nobody else.
“He’s a tight-ass,” Rossi mumbles, shaking his head. And a dumbass if he’s right about Emily. He puffs, “this place isn’t going to fall apart just because he misses a few hours.” Dave has been doing this for a long time. He didn’t get Chief of Surgery dicking around… well, he did a little bit but that’s not the point being made.
Emily smiles, even if it looks a little forced. “Tell him that,” she offers with an eye roll. “I’m just not going to waste my energy with that argument.” Arguing with Hotch is a very taxing and pointless excursion. Especially, if the subject at hand goes against his paranoias and anxieties. So, in other words, the idea that the hospital won’t burn down without him.
Rossi can feel the mood shift and Derek must too because he kisses Savannah's cheek and excuses himself. “I’ve got my own rounds to attend to,” he admits. “Pretty boy,” he calls Reid to him. “Care to join me?” Morgan can handle a little responsibility. He won’t let Reid’s work slack on account of him.
Reid looks between Dave and Prentiss, unsure if he’s allowed to agree with Derek. Ultimately, he sees no qualms being raised by either of them so he nods and his head. He tucks his hands in his pocket and stands by Morgan’s side. Waiting for the plastic surgeon to leave.
“I’ll catch you later,” Derek says with a wave of his hand. Fully intending to make good on that promise at lunchtime where he’ll attempt to tear down Emily’s walls to get her to talk about whatever is bothering her right now. With any luck, it’ll be something juicy.
Rossi turns and watches the pair walk away, wondering how many more chores he’s been left to do. “I should probably--” he lets his voice wander off as he pulls the list from his pocket. He motions to with an air of defeat, rolling his eyes good-naturedly. “Can I trust you two to behave?”
JJ smiles, “I think we both know that the only pair you should be worried about just walked off to do rounds.” Her smile broadens as she considers all the mischief Reid and Morgan can get into. “However, if I were you, I’d go investigate what they’re really off doing because I’ve never known Morgan to do his work on time and not last minute.”
Dave is obviously not buying her diversion but she’s planted the seeds of fear in his mind. Unable to think of anything aside from whatever Morgan and Reid are out ruining, he lets them go. Besides, he’s certain he’ll figure it out sooner rather than later anyhow.
As soon as Dave turns the corner, JJ turns back to Emily.
“So,” the blonde inquires knowing they’re both working on a tight schedule. “You and Hotch?”
Emily nods. She doesn’t regret it. That’s what she’s learned from her morning full of nothing but introspection. She wishes she regretted it because then she’d be able to tell JJ that she's not madly in love with him. “We were drunk,” she tells her because somehow that makes it okay. But then she remembers how he kept asking if she was okay.
It’s the bare minimum but… no one’s ever actually done that before.
“I’m surprised he could,” JJ admits. “He had a lot to drink.” They’d been celebrating… something. Reid and Garcia were celebrating, actually. The rest of them were just drinking away another miserable day at this hospital.
Emily nods her agreement. It’s unusual for Hotch to drink let alone get drunk enough to have sex with her. “He was very sweet,” she admits.
JJ smirks… What else was she expecting? Hotch can be an asshole but the majority of the time he really is a gentleman. Unless you incur his wrath and if you do… well, that’s your business. He’s a bit of a hothead but it does take a lot to get him worked into yelling.
Besides, Hotch is nothing but a sweetheart to Emily. They can act as blind as ⅔ of the three blind mice but that doesn’t change the heart eyes they exchange. It still leaves a lot to be desired on a lot of their exchanges, though. The way he reaches over and, without prompting, opens boxes or bags for her. The way Emily creeps into his personal space and he doesn’t comment or even step back.
“I don’t think it’ll work out, though.” Emily takes a long sip from her coffee, eyes thoughtfully trailing off. Actually, she’s not sure it won’t work but she’s about thirty percent sure he doesn’t love her and she needs someone to tell her that she’s not making it up.
JJ scoffs at that.
Emily stops walking, eyeing her friend up. “What?” Of course, she wants to know exactly what’s warranted that reaction.
JJ rolls her eyes, “Emily, I have watched you two make some of the most disgustingly adorable faces at each other for the better part of the last year. I’ve seen Haley watch your every move.” JJ picks her pace up, leaving Emily in her momentary frozen state. “He’s hopelessly in love with you Emily and if you don’t feel that way back then you’re lying to yourself and to him.” JJ turns around, walking backward so that her words are met with Emily’s full attention. “And you both deserve better than that.”
__________
Penelope Garcia is certain that someone is leaving her out of the loop.
For starters, Derek and Spencer are giggling in one of her observation rooms. Meaning that they’re not being watched… as they should be.
Emily and JJ brought her coffee this morning.
Dave has been MIA, besides coming down here half an hour ago to ask where Morgan and Reid had “fucked off to”. She would have happily informed him of the shenanigans, no doubt, happening in her emergency room, but Morgan had gotten to her first. Who is she to say no to her Chocolate Thunder so of course, she told Dave she hadn’t seen him yet this morning.
“MVA with three vics incoming!”
Garcia sighs, standing up from behind her desk. She looks over the doctors and staff floating through the emergency room. “Charlotte,” she calls the baby nurse over. Baby being the term she’s using because Charlotte is all of about twenty-three. She finds it adorable. “Honey, do you know where Hotch is?”
Another nurse, Savannah Hayes, steps up to the station. “Uhm, he’s on call.” There’s something about her knowing smile that tells Garcia exactly why Savannah knows that: Derek Morgan. “Off to a-a…” she snaps her fingers as she tries to recall what Morgan was telling her earlier that morning. “Parent-teacher meeting,” she recalls. “He’ll be back later though.”
Garcia frowns, making a mental note to ask about the meeting later. She’s about to ask how Morgan is since she hadn’t seen him that morning when the emergency room’s doors open and the EMTs run-in with the first victim.
“Forty-year-old car crash victim, head-on collision.” The EMTs come in running, shouting out information to whoever will listen. “Pressure is 50 over palp, his respirations were shallow in the field.” The stretcher is relinquished to the closest E.R. doctor. “Pupil dilation was equal and reactive at sight. ”
Garcia pulls herself together, clearing her throat as she steps up to the stretcher. “I want--” the order dies on her lips. The man on the stretcher is pale, paler than normal. His black hair plastered to his scalp, not in it’s usual combed but contained mess. His brow isn’t furrowed and he’s not looming and glooming but she’d know him anywhere.
Her brain blanks. Training and training and protocol and protocol but… It’s not very often she gets a friend in here. “Uhm,” she can feel the emotions taking over where she should be calm. Hotch needs her to be calm. “I need you to take him to--” her mind blanks but her pointing finger guides the seasoned EMT well and the two separate with a business-like nod.
“I need someone to--” Garcia turns and Charlotte is right there. “I need you to call the Chief down here and-and Derek and everyone!” She doesn’t look back or check to make sure she’s understood, she follows Hotch into the next room. There are ethics and protocol and so many things running through her head as she grabs her boss’s hand but there’s not a chance in hell anyone’s pulling her away.
Once in the room, she sets about doing her job. Looking up only as the curtain is thrown back and she finds David Rossi looking back at her.
“It’s Hotch.”
Garcia cuts through his shirt, the thin Hanes material giving like butter with her scissors. Tears sting her eyes, “oh, my liege.” She looks up and Derek and Spencer are right behind Dave, everyone filing in. It takes them a moment, just as it did her before they throw themselves into their jobs.
Rossi pulls the cut shirt away, shaking his head. “Chest movements are paradoxical,” he informs them, moving his hands to palpate Hotch’s abdomen. “Abdomen is rigid, too.” He places the stethoscope on Hotch’s diaphragm, sighing. “I need to place a chest tube, get me a cart.” He throws the stethoscope cord back around his neck, stepping to the side.
Out of the corner of her eye, Garcia sees Rossi going for the tools he needs for a chest tube. She doesn’t want to say they don’t have time for that but… “Pulse ox is 82,” Garcia informs them. “It was just 88.” Her hands are trembling as she moves around them, a flurry of movement all of them trying to do their jobs. “Oxygen is dropping.”
Morgan curses, “I need to intubate him.” The utensils are already gathered in his hands-- muscle memory to reach out for the tools that are cold and familiar in his palms. “Do you want to be the one to tell him he’s got heart damage or worse because we let his oxygen drop to below 80?”
Reid, standing by Hotch’s head, interlaces his fingers and shakes his head. His anxiety is sky high, it’s all too much. “Can’t,” he mumbles, shaking his hands out. “If a patient with pneumothorax or other indication for tube thoracostomy requires intubation and mechanical ventilation, the chest tube should be inserted first to avoid creating an iatrogenic tension pneumothorax.” He presses his palms into his temples. All the noise, everyone shouting is overstimulating him.
It’s why he doesn’t work in the emergency room.
“I just need a second, dammit!” Rossi’s hands are shaking, “let me get the chest tube in!” The scalpel in his hand trembles over Hotch’s skin. He’s pale from adrenaline and clammy to the touch. The emergency room feels different without Hotch looming over them. He’s not shouting out orders into the chaos or guiding anyone through procedures with his scarily calm voice.
“Dave? Come on, man!”
Rossi shakes his head, clearing his dismal thoughts. He clenches his jaw and makes the incision into the fourth intercostal space. “Clamp,” the cold metal is pressed into his palm and he places it inside the area. “Dissecting the pleural space,” he mumbles, working the clamp under Hotch’s skin so that the area can accept the tube.
Hotch’s body jerks away from Rossi, a soft grunt coming from his mouth. Reid steps back to his head, clicking his penlight on. “Right pupil is five millimeters and reactive,” Reid hovers by his friend’s head. He guides the light to Hotch’s left eye, yelping when the man jerks his head away from the light. “Hotch?” His eyes blink open, his head turning from the penlight. “He-He’s conscious!”
Rossi stands up from his spot, pulling his bloodied gloves off. He moves to Hotch’s head, “Aaron? Aaron, can you hear me?” He presses his warm hand to Hotch’s cheek, guiding Hotch’s attention to him. “Can you hear me, son?”
Hotch’s eyes are jerking around the room, his mouth open but silent as he writhes in pain. He can’t breathe. His chest is heavy but he’s only thinking about one thing: Jack. The strangled sound that leaves his mouth is inhuman, he doesn’t recognize it. The pain becomes excruciating.
“Sedate--” all too familiar with that word, Hotch turns his head towards Derek. The other man is red in the face, his anxiety bubbling into rage. Profanities litter his speech but Hotch’s mind is too exhausted to nitpick out the words. For now, the only one worth thinking about is sedate.
He pulls away from the bed, a burst of energy leaving him trembling but upright in the stretcher. “N-No!” Jack. Jack was in the back seat. He couldn’t reach Jack. He has to get to-- Something cold runs into his arm and looks down, body suspended by his friends and coworkers, and it’s Reid. In his hands is the syringe Garcia had gotten out. Hotch feels his chest tighten-- he feels betrayed.
“Easy, son.”
Hotch feels himself falling back but he doesn’t hit the hard surface of the gurney beneath him but rather hands. Gently, he’s guided back down. Sweat sleeks his hair to his face and he’s limp in the hands as Derek steps towards his head. They’re talking-- words he understands but…
Derek cranes his neck back, Hotch can see his lips moving, but he’s not taking in any of the words. He knows they’re asking him to do a simple task: blink on command to questions or offer a thumbs up. His inability to do these tasks, to even focus on anything other than the cold air on his exposed flesh is the reason they keep moving around him. Shouting as if he isn’t really there at all.
A thumb presses on his chin, forcing his jaw open. He grimaces as cold metal slides into his throat. Floating between conscious and unconsciousness, he gags and feels himself twist to get away from the tube pressing into the back of his throat.
“Easy--” someone comforts as hands press his shoulders down.
Air fills his lungs, it hurts-- every muscle, bone, tendon, everything hurts. He can breathe though, full lungfuls of air. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see the ambu bag, bright blue, and in Reid’s hands. They make eye contact and Hotch watches as Reid syncs their breathing. The young genius’s shoulders rise as Hotch’s lungs fill and fall as he exhales.
There was once a time when Hotch had stood by Reid’s side, his hands covering Reid’s over the ambu bag. He’d always been able to be more patient with Reid than he was with many other students. Reid’s just a kid. So he made a point to remember that in every interaction he had with the genius.
And he’d grown to appreciate Reid’s unique sense of humor. He’s a good guy.
A good kid.
“Hotch?” Reid’s throat tightens as he watches a pained grimace come across his boss’ face. He’s uncomfortable and in pain but Reid can’t do much besides keeping the ambu bag moving at a steady pace. “Garcia?” He feels a flutter of anxiety knotting his heart up. “Can’t you do something? He’s in pain.”
Morgan interrupts whatever Garcia’s going to say with a shout, “just pulled a positive tap!” A second later, the metal starts hitting the table with a clatter. The wheels of the stretcher unlock, the guard rail going up. “He’s got blood in his abdomen, he needs to get into the OR, now!”
Dave takes a stumbling step back, his arms raised above his head. It’s muscle memory to pull them away from the field-- the field, of course, being his friend's bleeding body. His heart sinks to his feet but follows in the direction that Derek is pushing Hotch. His voice barking out orders that echo down the hall.
Dave watches them go.
“Sir,” an attending waves him down. “Hotchner’s wife is gonna need heart surgery.”
Dave’s got another job to attend to.
He has Savannah call Emily to the OR. He meets his team in the room. They’re working with silence. “If you can’t pull yourself together,” his voice is harsh because they’re past life and death. “Get out of my OR.” He looks around the crowd of faces, nurses and doctors he’s known for years. There’s a solemn understanding.
They wait on edge.
“Prentiss won’t know,” Dave tells the team. His eyes move to the woman on the table and without a word, he draws back the blue cloth over her eyes. The room stands in silent shock. All of them recognize her.
Haley Hotchner.
They’ve seen the evolution of the divorce. The way Aaron came into the hospital fresh-faced and new. Haley used to bring him lunch and Dave used to catch them in the on-call room. They’d gotten pregnant, had their ultrasound a floor down from where Haley now lays. Had their boy, Jack, and fallen into a pit.
Haley stopped kissing him between visits to the hospital.
She stopped visiting altogether.
Then Emily had come.
“Prentiss can’t know.”
She won’t know.
Emily Prentiss has mastered the art of chugging hot coffee and running, which is what she’s currently doing. Emergency heart surgery, she’s thrilled. Even more so when she steps into the room and things are already in motion.
“Dave,” she greets the older man as she steps into the operating room. Her hands are raised, waiting for a nurse to place gloves over her hands. “What’re you doing in here?”
It takes every ounce of his self-control to keep his voice steady. He clears his throat, “thought I’d watch the master at work.” Sure, Dave, win her over with flattery. Maybe then she won’t hate you for lying. “That alright with you?”
Emily shrugs, “I don’t mind dazzling you.” Gloves snapped into place, she adds, “but I do prefer Heart Goddess. You know, for future reference.” She turns to Savannah, who she recognizes behind her mask. “What do we have?”
Savannah glances at Dave. For a moment, Dave’s certain the cat’s about to be out of the bag but before he can fill the silence, Savannah clears her throat. “Thirty-five-year-old female with a suspected arterial wall collapse.”
Emily frowns as she walks past the patient, eyes scanning over the ultrasound that’s pulled up. “Suspected?” she repeats. She doesn’t like the sound of suspected but she’s not complaining. It could certainly be worse. She shrugs it away. “I’m gonna time myself,” she announces. “Have you started her on L.R.s?”
“Two liters L.R. and a unit of packed cells.”
Emily nods her head and moves back to the patient. “Alright, sounds good to me.” She extends her right hand, “ten blade.”
They all watch in baited silence as she sets to work.
“It’s a goddamn…” the frustration in her voice is clear. Her brows furrow and she falls silent.
Dave tries to keep himself calm but taking a deep breath doesn’t settle his nerves. He leans over the operating table, sucking his bottom lip between his teeth as he watches. “How’s it going,” he asks. He’s a damn good surgeon himself but it’s been a long time since he was running a heart surgery like this one. His specialty runs more towards general.
Emily shakes her head. When the monitors sound in alarm she doesn’t look up to see what it is, the curse she lets out says she already knows exactly what’s wrong. “Her…” Emily pauses as she works. “The inferior vena cava is completely collapsed. I don’t know how she’s--” Both of their heads snap up as the heart monitor sounds out in alarm.
Emily pulls her hands up, shaking her head as she works. “I can’t do anything,” she tells Dave. “Everything’s a mess. She’s bleed dry and I’ve maxed out the dopamine ....” Emily blows out her breath, letting herself think. “Let me try…” she leans back over Haley.
Whatever she’s doing, causes the monitors to get louder. “Dammit!” Emily keeps working, asking for different tools as fast as the nurses can hand them to her.
The monitor flatlines.
Emily pulls her hands out and she looks over at Dave. “There’s nothing I can do,” she admits. “The heart was shredded.”
Dave refuses to believe this. “No,” he tells her. “There has to be something.” His attention snaps up as Derek steps into the room adjacent to the operating room. He’s come for news but Dave can see his eyes travel to the monitor. His shoulders sag and his mouth opens in disbelief.
Dave looks to the ground, “go talk to Derek.”
Emily frowns at him, “what is your problem?”
He doesn’t mean to. It’s nothing against her. None of this is her fault. He stood right here. He saw. She did her best but sometimes there’s nothing you can do. “Go, Emily!”
Sulking away, looking more like a pissed-off teenager than an award-winning surgeon, Emily pulls her gloves off angrily. Making a point to throw them away where Dave can visibly see how hard she throws the limp latex. She shoves her way through the door and shakes her head at Derek. “What the hell is his problem?”
Dave watches through the window.
Derek starts talking, his hands gathering near his chest as he gestures and tries to work around telling Emily the truth.
Emily takes a step back, shaking her head. She argues with him, disbelief. No. Then her head turns to Dave and to the woman laying on the table. To the sandy blonde hair she just barely recognizes until Dave reaches down and moves the blanket draped over Haley’s face.
Dave can hear her muffled shout. Her voice grows frantic and angry as she accepts Derek pulling her to his chest but her fist hitting him. Fighting with everything she’s got for this not to be true.
For Haley to be alive.
Dave begins the slow process of pulling his own garments off. Someone’s going to have to tell Aaron.
He assumes that job is going to be left for him as well.
__________
It takes Dave a minute to find JJ. She’s lost in a sea of children, crouching so that she’s level with them as she speaks. Judging by the bandanna wrapped around her forehead, she’s got them into some game. Which explains how she’s oblivious to the news he’s carrying.
“Hey, kiddos.” He tries and fails to appreciate the youthful hope written across the snotty faces beaming at him. “I’m gonna need to steal Miss JJ for a moment, okay?”
JJ looks up and tells him to wait a moment, before she manages to wiggle out of the grasp of a rather small snot nosed child. Still, she gives the kid a pat on the head before stepping to the side with Dave.
“Aaron was in a car accident--” he tells her everything. That he lied to Emily and that Haley is dead. She takes it in stride. Nodding and inquiring about the surgeries. About Hotch’s outcome.
“But you think he’s going to be okay?” she asks.
Dave hesitates before agreeing. “His intracranial pressure is being closely monitored but… they all worked to the best of their abilities and--”
JJ nods, right. They’ve got great surgeons under this roof. Hotch would be safer no place else.
“I need to ask you a favor, though.” He rubs at the back of his neck, sheepishly recalling his short-circuited shout at Emily.
JJ already knows, “I’ll take care of her.” She steps to the side, attempting to make good on her promise.
“She’s with--”
“Aaron,” JJ finishes. “I know.” Because where else would she go? When Emily seeks comfort, she goes one to two places. To JJ or Hotch and considering Emily hasn’t been on the ward, the children love her so she’d know she must be with him.
It doesn’t take long for her to find Hotch's room. JJ steps in, feeling her light bubble pop under the pressure of the blood not completely wiped from Hotch’s face. The additional loom and gloom do not help. “How’s he doing?” The room is devoid of all things light and cheerful. Sucked through the dark whole of her friends’ current moods.
His vitals are good. A steady resting heart rate of seventy-two. He’s alive and that’s more than they can say for other victims of the crash.
“He won’t wake up.” Emily stands up from his side. Uncurling her long legs from underneath her as she stretches out. Muscles ache and joints pop as she moves for the first time in several hours. She doesn’t look at him for too long, it makes her chest tight and her throat hurt to see him like this.
She prefers the medicine of everything.
She can understand pulmonary edemas, kidney failures, pneumothorax, and flail chest but… The comparison is medicine makes sense. Show her a blocked artery and she’ll work around it. Bypass isn’t an option? No problem. The surgery is over. Vitals are steady. There aren’t chest to crack or hearts to massage. All she can do is sit back and take watch.
Her best friends sitting in a hospital bed hooked up to machines and she can do nothing.
“Of course, he isn’t,” JJ grumbles, walking over to the light switch and turning on the lights. Bathed in the dark room, windows shut to cut out all natural light, and surrounded by artificial sound it’s no wonder he’s not waking up. They haven’t given him a reason to. “Emily, you’ve shut out all the natural light. Half of recovery is atmosphere and, if I were Hotch, I’d feel like everyone had given up on me.”
JJ pulls open the blinds, the bright light making Emily recoil. The room, though, brightens, and JJ can feel the warmth in her chest. It occurs to her that maybe Hotch isn’t the only one who needs some looking after. While they can rest assured that Derek, Penelope, Dave, and Spence will cycle through the room periodically. Each of them checking sutures, drain tubes, and reflex responses.
No one’s checking on eachother.
“Em,” JJ places a hand on her friend’s shoulder. Emily’s shoulders feel rock hard under her palm. “When was the last time you showered or ate?”
Emily’s too tired to even think of numbers. Instead she leans into JJ, allowing her head to rest against the space between the blondes neck and shoulder. She’s fighting tears before JJ even hugs her back. “Are you sure you don’t want to run away with me?” she asks. “We can run away right now and do gay crimes and leave all the men in our lives right here.”
JJ cups the back of Emily’s head, rubbing her back as she considers the offer Emily has been making a lot here lately. After a moment, JJ decides that she loves her best friend with all her heart and that gay crimes sound thrilling but she can’t. Besides the fact that she knows how good Emily is at sex and the gay crimes would be very gay and very nice… Neither really want to leave. “I think we’d better stay here, love.” She kisses Emily’s temple, “besides, I can’t leave in good conscience while Hotch is like this.”
Emily pulls away from JJ, moving her body so that she can lean into the smaller woman. She’s accepted with open arms and they stand leaning and silent as they watch Hotch breath.
It’s artificial and that comes with it’s own sort of sting but it’s still him.
“I killed his wife,” Emily whispers after a long moment between the ventilators hissing.
JJ knows. Dave had come to tell her the minute Haley’s heart stopped the first time on the table.
“She’s not going to be able to save her,” he’d whispered, hushed and frantic. “It’s going to crush her.”
Now, as JJ feels Emily sobbing silently beside her, she wonders how Dave knew. Emily’s never taken losing well. She’s heavily competitive. So, maybe this is the worst kind. Emily didn’t just fail… she let her best friend’s wife die.
“Ex-wife,” JJ corrects. Because that’s what Hotch and Halery were. Separated. Anybody with two eyes could see they still loved each other but the job always came first for Hotch. Haley… she wanted more. “She was his ex-wife.” Besides that, the distinction is important.
Emily knows it doesn’t matter. “I still killed her,” she replies. “He’s never going to forgive me.”
JJ looks at the man on the bed. There’s nothing she wants more than to reassure Emily that’s not true. She’s seen the way Hotch looks at her when no one else is watching. But she can’t really know. “Let’s go clean up,” she deflects. “You’ll feel better.”
God, Emily hopes she’s right.
__________
“We’re having a party.” Penelope Garcia is standing in front of her family, sans Hotch, with her hands on her hips and enough conviction in her tone to convince them that’s a solid plan. “JJ’s right,” she informs them. They had lunch together like they do every day. It may be normal to have one or two of them missing-- general surgery logs Hotch random hours and heart and brain surgery tend to run on the long side-- this is the first time any of their own have been on the table.
The first time Reid wasn’t at the table because his hands were meticulously placing holes in Hotch’s head.
“This place is way too gloomy,” and she’s right of course. Even with the light funneling into the room from the blinds JJ pulled up, Hotch is still surrounded by their dismal moods. “We’re having a party.”
After a long moment, each of them rolling this idea around Dave speaks. He’s not against the idea but he’s not exactly going to give it the go-ahead, not yet. “Aaron would hate the attention,” he deduces because that’s the truth. Hotch wouldn’t even talk to them about the divorce.
The papers for which were delivered in the middle of the workday. JJ had been the one to go get Hotch. He was in the middle of a surgery… one that someone else had to finish.
“He won’t even know,” Garcia informs them. “Reid’s keeping him in the induced coma for another night.”
This is, of course, news to the rest of the room. Reid had gotten out of the surgery and gone to collapse in bed. Exhausted. Emotionally and physically.
Emily speaks up for the first time since the meeting had been called. “He could--” she realizes how helplessly hopeful she is as soon as the words start to come out. “He could still wake up.”
He could. Reid had decreased his dosage a little post-operation before he’d gone home but before Reid could even leave the hospital Hotch’s intracranial pressure had increased.
“He could,” Garcia agrees. “That’s why, if he does. He’s going to be surrounded by us. Having a good time.”
And if there’s one thing that rings true through-out that hospital… If Garcia says it, then it’s Gospel.
“I feel stupid,” Emily grumbles, sitting still but not going through the party process as well as her friend would like. She’s in a dress because Garcia wants this to be a fancy party. Full of drinking and music. Emily knows Hotch would be just as happy if she were barefoot and daisy dukes.
JJ taps her cheek, a small soundless reprimand for moving away from the eye-liner JJ is so meticulously placing on her eyes.
Emily sits for the remainder of the make-up JJ paints onto her face. She can’t actively see it going on but she still knows it’s a lot.
“Oh my God,” Garcia beams when she sees Emily. “You’re gorgeous.” She looks at JJ, “I love it but we’re not trying to shock the man into another coma when he lays his eyes on our total bombshell babe!”
Emily rolls her eyes and shakes herself loose from Garcia’s grip. “I’m not sure I can do this.” She admits, sinking back against her chair. “How am I… I couldn’t… I couldn’t fix Haley and I can’t fix my own heart… so, what am I, JJ? Because a heart goddess certainly isn’t it.”
JJ drops her knee, ignoring the way her own dress rides up her thigh. “Emily, you’re the heart Goddess whether you like it or not.” She cups the side of Emily’s face, wiping her thumb across a tear that dares to fall from her friend’s face. “Dave had you do the surgery on Haley because you’re the best surgeon in the damn county.” She shakes her head, “hell in the nation, probably. If you couldn’t save her then no one could and her best chances were when she was on your table.”
Garcia offers a hand on Emily’s shoulder. She squeezes lightly, “you did you best, Em. You tried to save Haley but now we have to go save Hotch.”
Emily nods, caving to the idea. “Fine,” she mumbles, “but I’m not dancing.”
She lasts four seconds because as soon as she steps through the door, Dave sweeps her up. “Dance with me, bella?”
It’s mostly shifting back and forth but she can feel the tension leaving her body as she accepts Dave’s proximity. After a moment of listening to Reid and Morgan’s bickering, Dave clears his throat. “I wanted to apologize for everything that happened earlier,” he tells her. They step closer to one another so that they can hear each other over the sound of the music and monitors.
“It’s okay,” Emily whispers back, leaning her head on his shoulder. “I know…” she sighs, she’s not sure what she knows.
Dave rubs her back, keeping them moving. “At the very least,” he offers, “I shouldn’t have yelled at you.”
She pulls away from his embrace just enough to stand on the tips of her toes and press a kiss to his cheek. “I forgive you,” she promises.
Air cleared and feeling a little better Dave looks over to Hotch. The kid looks better. It’s hard to tell if that’s a placebo or the truth. “Is it just me,” Dave asks, “or does he seem to be getting more popular?” He shakes his head in disbelief. “Maybe I should go into a coma.”
Emily snickers, “Dave, if you went into a coma… how would we ever know?”
Dave stops dancing, mouth open in shock. “I--” he shakes his head. “I can’t…” He shuts his mouth with an audible snap, “I can’t believe you’d say something like that!”
Behind them, Morgan and Reid are still in the heats of an argument about plastic surgery.
“Anybody can--” Morgan flusters, “it’s called aesthetic awareness, pretty Ricky. You don’t have it. It’s a fine-toothed skill and you can’t even color inside the lines.” He looks at Savannah for back-up but his girlfriend doesn’t offer it. “Never mind your mismatched socks. You just don’t have it, kid.”
Before Reid can offer a rebuttal on the matter, Garcia calls his name out.
“He’s waking up!” She dances at Hotch’s side, motioning them all over with a hurried flick of his wrist.
The music is turned down as Reid pulls out his penlight.
“Hey, kid,” Dave greets softly. He takes Hotch’s left hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “We’re all here. Reid, JJ, Garcia.” They watch as his eyes open, it’s just a sliver but the soft brown of his eyes greets them back none-the-less. “Morgan and Emily.”
A shiver goes down Emily’s back as his eyes turn over to her. She steps up, feeling awkward as the other’s part to let her through. Garcia lets go of his other hand, letting Emily takes his hand. “Hey,” she greets softly. She smiles, unable to contain her tears when his finger slowly crawls back around hers.
“You’re gonna be a-okay,” Dave promises. “We’re all here, okay? You can get some sleep.”
His eyes flick over to Dave for a second before returning to her.
Emily looks around the room, uncertain… but her gut is forgotten by her heart as she leans over and places a kiss on his forehead. “Get some sleep, Aaron.”
Dave takes a step back, “good night, kiddo.”
She holds his hand until his eyes slip back shut. Waiting for another moment, just to be sure.
“He’s going to be okay,” Reid reassures her.
Emily steps back from the bed and nods. “I hope you’re right.” But Reid is never wrong and she holds onto that hope with everything she’s got.

Spencer Reid was gay and in love with Derek Morgan. Derek Morgan, like so many people it's sad, he was homophobic and thought liking men whilst being a man was gross, and even though he had feelings for Spencer Reid, he ignored them and married Savannah. Derek Morgan also left the BAU because after Savannah became pregnant, Spencer confessed and they talked it out and decided Morgan leaving was for the best. I totes didn't start crying while typing this.
Okay so this is a thought, but I feel like Morgan's alpha male personality would help him accept his homosexuality. He wouldn't be one to doubt himself or nessesarily fell bad about it. It is what it is, love is love, Sorta thing. Maybe not nessesarily come out immediately, but he'd be fine with it for the most part.
I also think Morgan is most definitely bisexual. He for sure had feelings for Spencer, ie; Moreid. But I think he acted to late on his feelings and ended up with Savannah. Don't get me wrong he loves her, heck he even had a child with her. But he is attracted to both men and women.
But the way that their relationship was set, they are both definitely in love. I wish the cm writers got the hint. Like look at them they'd go so perfectly together. But I'm pretty sure he knew liking a man wasn't gross, it's just natural in the homosexual sense. And him being a flaming homosexual, would understand the feeling.
I don't think Spencer had a part in Morgan leaving. I think the emotional and physical trauma was just a lot to handle, and knowing that he would have a wife and child at risk was just to much. He figured it would be safer for his entire family that he retired.
But Moreid has the potential to happen and it should have, it would have been so legendary. It would have been amazing.

CM writers's typical work at couples:
Hotch & Haley: married; parents of Jack; they have chemistry and are sweet -> let's kill her even if we made them yet separate. 😊
Hotch & Beth: sweet, Jack adores her, she makes Hotch smiles and happy, they have chemistry -> let's make them break up after a period of long-distance relationship, offering her a new job. 😊
Kate & Chris: married, adoptive parents of Meg, sweet -> let's almost kill Meg while Kate is pregnant. Still together just because she left the team. 👨‍👩‍👧
Alex & James: married, parents of a lost kid, sweet -> let's traumatize her with one of the scarier unsub we created and, why not? Let's also almost kill Reid before her eyes. Still together just because she left the team to only teach. 🏛️
Morgan & Savannah: married, parents of Hank, they have chemistry and sexual tension, sweet -> let's almost kill him and then (because it wasn’t enough) let's almost kill her and their not-yet-born kid. They are still together just because he left the team. 😏
Rossi & Hayden: parents of Joy, grandparents of Kay, sweet and funny together -> let's make them break up, just because Rossi is Italian and, you know... Latins are calienti. 🔥
Rossi & Krystall: sweet, she understands his job and it's supportive -> let's make them married, just because we're not so bad as you all think. 😉 (in progress).
Reid & Maeve: they have a lot in common, both big brains, she is his first love -> let's killing her right in front of him, the same day he sees her for the first time and just for the drama... And to see a bit of sick and sad Spence. Everyone love this kind of plot, it's not so?
Reid & Max: they have chemistry, she makes him happy, she makes him laugh, it's right the hurricane he needs in his too regular life, she is amazed by him -> let's pull out of our hat Cat to make them both in danger (you have to admit that they have been too happy in this month together) and maybe... You know. 😏(in progress).
JJ & Will: married, parents of Henry and Michael, they have chemistry, she loses her mind every time he is in danger, he is the most comforting husband in the world -> let's make her confess that she always loved her best friend and even make her risk her life (once again). Just for some drama. ☺️ (in progress).
Prentiss & Mark: we know about him almost nothing, he is just a name -> let's keep them together until the world will find out that they broken up when she accepted to be the new BAU united chief. 😎
Prentiss & Mendoza: they have a lot of chemistry and sexual tension, she is different with him, he makes her happy, they are both badass -> let's oblige him to move to another town for staying closer to his daughter and also let's try to ruin everything. She was too happy lately, wasn't she? 🤔 (in progress).
Garcia & Kevin: they have just few good and sweet moments, they are too similar, he is too jealous and breaks her heart because he can't wait her time -> let's keep them together for more than 4 years without a reason. 🤗
Garcia & Sam: he cares about her but doesn't understand her job, he is never here for help her, he learns her to play different instruments -> let's use his name just to remind you that she is still with him even if we didn't see him since S10. We will never know why they broken up, but you have to understand it by random hints. 🔍
Tara & Doug: they're about to get married, he is jealous of the bad guys that she has to interview for her job -> let's make him break up with her, just because she doesn't really need someone who loves her in a healthy way. 💉
Matt & Kristy: married, with 5 kids, they have chemistry, sexual tension, they are able to be in love as the first day, she is his priority, he is her priority -> let's put them both alternatively in danger, just because we don't know how to ruin a such wonderful relationship. 😔
Alvez & Lisa: they don't have chemistry, they live together, she is never present at the family moments, he almost never call her while he is at work, they almost talk, not even the unsub cares about her -> let's keep them together using her name to get Voldemort' impact... but you really believe that we will give you garvez? Haha, poor idiots. 😈 (in progress).
I'm just tired of this shit.

Spencer pulls up the comforters in an attempt to cover his ears from the horrendous alarm that was enveloping his room.
“Make it stop," he grumbled into an empty bed.
"It's been ringing for a little more than an hour now," he heard his favorite voice from the attached bathroom of their bedroom, "it's about time you woke up, don't you think?" She peeked through the doorway, rolling her eyes with a smile at her sleepy husband.
"I have a better idea," Spencer mumbled sleepily.
“Oh?”
"You come into bed with me." He propped himself onto his elbow, barely managing to pry his open. He glanced over to the digital alarm clock on the bedside table which read 6:15 in bright red luminescent lights.
He inhaled a sharp breath slowly sitting up in bed, stretching his arms widely. The covers fell back onto the bed as he stood up and made his way into the bathroom.
"Excuse me," Amelia looked at her husband from the mirror. He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, resting his head on her shoulder. "Occupied." She giggles as he kisses the nape of her neck.
“Can you join me in the shower?” He asked his wife, looking at her big brown eyes through the mirror.
She turned to face him, smiling sweetly, “I'm already dressed, babe.” She puts on her earrings. “Sorry.” She apologized laughing at his disappointed sigh.
“You don't have to be at work ‘til 8. That's enough time for a second shower.” He rests his forehead against hers. He gives her a look up and down, thanking all the Gods he could think of for giving him an eidetic memory.
Her style was modest and girly. Floral prints and pastel colors. Lots of dresses and skirts (which she loved to twirl and spin in).
She quickly gives him a peck on his stubbly cheek, and squirms her way out his arms. “Get ready quickly. Breakfast will be ready in 20, and I would like to eat with you before I leave for the day.”
-
Pulling the buttons on his cardigan close, he rushed into the kitchen when he heard the bacon sizzle.
“Lia,” he grumbled, quickly stuffing a few raspberries in his mouth before she could stop him, “you spoil me.” He kisses her cheek.
She gives him a toothy, childlike grin.
She loved being appreciated and praised. It made her feel giddy. And, when she felt like that, she gave this adorable smile, which was one of the many things Spencer loved. Her two front teeth, and side canines displayed themself through her smiling lips.
“Should I do the omelette?” Spence offered as he set the table.
“I was thinking of no eggs today.” She answered, pouring pancake batter onto a second pan. When he gave her a questioning look- eggs being her favorite in the mornings- she just shrugged. “The smell has been setting my stomach off for a few days now.”
After he poured the duo Orange juice, the two quickly ate, cleaned, and rushed out the door. Both said their ‘I love you's’ and parted their separate ways.
-
Amelia, being a preschool teacher, had very simple hours. From 8am, until 2 in the afternoon. After that, she was home, and usually waiting for her husband's arrival.
Spencer didn't have such a predictable schedule. Sometimes he would come home around 5 in the afternoon. Other times, if he had paperwork he wanted to wrap up, he would stay late till nearly midnight. And, of course, if a case came up, he could be gone for days.
But, regardless, whatever his schedule may be for the day, he always, always, made sure Amelia was aware of it.
Today was no different. She got home from work at about half past two. She had a feeling in her stomach. One of much excitement. A part of her wanted to wait for Spencer to come home, but a bigger part wanted to find out before him. That way, she could surprise him if she was right. And, if she wasn't- well, at least, that way, he wouldn't be disappointed also.
She tossed her handbag onto the couch of her apartment, and made a beeline for the bathroom.
After a total of three minutes, she's on the bathroom floor, one hand over her mouth, her other hand holding tightly onto a plastic stick and her eyes flowing with tears.
Happy tears.
She couldn't believe her eyes. There it was. The pregnancy stick she had bought nearly four months ago, finally in her hands reading exactly what she was hoping for.
Two solid lines, screaming, that she was going to be a mother. She wanted to call Spence straight away. She wanted to scream it off the rooftops and to the world. She wanted to call her best friend, and her mother and sister-
But first, she obviously had to tell her husband. But, not like this. She couldn't say news like this over the phone. No, she had to surprise him.
So, that's exactly what she planned on doing. Very quickly, and very happily, she got to baking. And whisking, and piping. Soon enough, she had a dozen cupcakes baked and frosted.
Some pink with blue sprinkles, some blue with pink sprinkles. She had a few topped with candles which she planned to light right before Spence came home.
Which reminded her-
Amelia paused the music which was blasting from her cell phone, and dialed her significant other.
One ring, two ring , three r-
“Hello?” She heard his voice answer.
“Hey,” she smiled widely. “Still at work?”
He hummed, “Yeah, just about wrapped up. I should be home soon.”
Amelia's stomach was storming with butterflies and she was scared, thinking, somehow, that her husband would unveil her secret through the phone. “Hurry,” she bit her bottom lip, “I have a surprise for you.”
“Oh?” She heard his voice perk up, “Is this a family friendly surprise? Or, should I just come straight to the bedroom?” She could hear a smirk playing at his lips.
“Why don't you just hurry home, and you can see for yourself.” Amelia teased.
-
Amelia must've fallen asleep watching television, because, one moment, she's watching The Real Housewives reruns at 3 something, and the next, she's waking up feeling lost in sleep at almost midnight.
She feels discombobulated for a moment until she realizes she was waiting for her husband before her unplanned nap. Confused, she looks around her quiet, empty- very dark- apartment.
Sitting up on the coach, she grabs her phone and dials Spencer's phone, simultaneously turning on a nearby lamp.
He said he'd be home soon. She thought to herself. She swallowed hard, her sleep making her mouth dry.
No rings. Straight to voicemail.
Yawning, she goes to her contacts, and dials the next best number she can think of.
After two rings, she hears an all too familiar male voice. “Hey, Amelia.”
“Hey, Derek. Sorry for waking you.” She knew she didn't wake him. She could hear the television in the background.
“Nah, mama, it's cool. What, Boy Genius not letting you sleep?” He laughed. Amelia could hear Savannah asking Morgan who's phone call he was on so late at night.
“Um- actually, that's why I called. Boy Genius isn’t home yet.” Amelia stood from the spot she was in for the past few hours, “I spoke with him earlier, and he said he'd be home around 3-ish.” She fiddled with her fingers, and an uneasy feeling in her stomach.
She could feel the confusion on the other line as Morgan quickly made an excuse, “You know, he probably turned his phone off and didn't realize it. That man is basically a caveman when it comes to technology. You know that.” Amelia started pacing her living room floor, “Don't stress, I'll call him and figure out where he is.”
The worried wife bit her inner cheek, “Thanks, Derek. Again, sorry for bothering you and the missus.” She felt guilty.
“Nothing to apologize about, Kid. I'll figure out where Pretty Boy is, and when I do, I'll eat his ear off for you.” He snickered, making Amelia smile. “Get some sleep. He’ll be home soon.”
Amelia wasn't tight-knit with Spencer's team, but she were fairly close. They were his family after all. So, it felt natural having to call Derek Morgan when Spencer hadn't come home yet. He was basically Spence’s big brother.
Saying another round of ‘thank you’s and ‘sorry’s, Amelia hung up the phone. Turning to face her kitchen counters, she saw the cupcakes she had set out in wait for her husband. Pink and blue sweets littered the countertops.
She had an uneasy feeling stirring within her. Nothing like the one she had before taking the pregnancy test. No, that was excitement. This, what she was feeling now, was all dread. With every fiber within her, she felt a strong fear.
And rightfully so.
-
Spencer was on the nose when he said he was ‘just about wrapped up’. After the call with his wife, he was more excited than usual to get home.
Spence and Amelia had what an outsider would call, puppy love. They were young, and openly affectionate. They were in what seemed to be a never-ending honeymoon phase.
Being together for 5 years, three of those as married, Spencer still looked at Amelia as if she was the reason the sun shone every morning, and she was the one who put the stars in the sky.
This was no ‘puppy love’. This was an ‘old couple sitting on a porch watching the sunset love’.
Spencer quickly packed his satchel, and because he was the last to leave the office, shut off all the lights. Taking the elevator down and quickly jogging to his parked car, he throws his bag in the passenger seat, and just as he's about to get in himself, he hears a voice call for him.
“Um- excuse me?” The curly headed brunette looks up, over his shoulder. He sees a hunched over chubby man, standing at the entrance of the parking lot. The two men lock eyes, and the stranger shows Spence a paper map from the distance. “I was a little lost, and was hoping I could just get some directions.”
The FBI agent licked his lips, and stepped a few feet away from his vehicle. “Where did you need to go?”
The chubby man made a smile which was crooked, “Question seems to be where I am now.” He laughed.
Spencer walked closer to the man who opened up the map. “Well, you're here,” he pointed at a cross section between two streets.
“And, now, where would that leave the Fish Market on Drewry Street?” He asked Spencer.
“Well, on Drewry Street, for starters.” Spence gave half a laugh, locating the street on the map.
As he pointed with his index finger, he looked up and saw the man staring intently at him. A smile took place on his lips, and before Spencer could react, or ask any questions, he felt a blunt force hit the back of his head.
Stumbling back with a grunt, the tall helpful man grabbed the back of his head, feeling warm, what he assumed was blood. “What the- agh! Mmpph!” A hand covered the agent's mouth.
In lighting speed, a windowless van pulls up beside the men. The man behind Spencer pushes him into the back of the new vehicle. The once hunched, and seemingly harmless stranger, now stood taller than Spencer. He shut the door of the van, leaving a half conscious, fully confused Spencer lying in the back. He jumped into the passenger seat of the van, and the car sped off with a screech.
Leaving behind only a skid mark on the road, and Spencer's satchel in the car, the van was long gone before any bystanders could take notice.
