I want to believe with the focus on the moon, and her yearning for wanting to uncover all of it's secrets of such an unknown realm, this might be a mix of the two legends. A small Dragon wanting to reach higher heights after being stopped from seeing it time and time again. And Dw I'll link a site with a neat video explaining these concepts for ya below. Back to my point, since in most legends it was believed Earth was once populated by animals and Dragons despite being mythical entities can be considered higher animals connected to nature. So, let's piece this together with the carp story; The Chameleon lives upon this land for many, many years but then caught a glimpse of a beautiful new world, told the other dragons (Her Army) about this new world but then were stopped time and time again to getting to that new land, so she tries everything to get there. See what I mean? She is about to make a large leap through all of her efforts despite those trying to stop her. I could go on and on about the connection to the moon but this is a post about Dragons. So, I believe this movie's concept will fall onto another Chinese method of reaching spiritual acceptance which is called Xian especially considering a bunch of bandits are going to be fighting and working hard against, a Master of many styles along with her army. And I believe both sides will explore this concept of Xian; which basically is devoting themselves to one task and mastering it to the point of becoming powerful. Obviously, I am simplifying that a lot. Since they tend to use the word Cultivate in the definition I found personally but I wanted to make it easier to understand. otherwise. I think that's all. Excerpt from chapter 4 of my original novel, working title WINGS (1.7k)

Anna Mars is from a long line of experienced supernatural hunters, and one day she meets Seren, a kind of winged creature that her family thought they had brought to extinction. An unlikely truce forms between them, and soon they find themselves caring about each other more than they should.

A/N: I worked on this novel in 2017-2019 and I almost finished the first book of a planned trilogy. It’s been a long time since I’ve touched it, but I thought perhaps sharing a couple of excerpts for my Posting Everyday In August (PEDIA) challenge might bring back my spark to work on my +170k wip, and not always go to my fanfics first. I adore these characters and their world so much. Enjoy!

Seren must have heard Anna come back and she turned around to see her stand and staring like a fool in the doorway. She quickly averted her eyes. Seren might be beautiful and intriguing but that didn’t give her any permission to stare at her like that.

“Sorry,” she muttered out.

“Thinking about where you’d make the cut to separate them from my back?” Seren asked in a voice too soft for such a violent question.

Anna almost retched. Her hunter’s mind should have gone there instantly but she had been too preoccupied with her pure admiration. But she noticed that she had indeed noted the width of the bones in the back of her mind, even if she had only observed it subconsciously.

“I told you. I wouldn’t do that to you,” Anna said.

Seren looked over her shoulder again and found Anna’s eyes. Seren’s wings twitched slightly and then seemed to spasm a little and pain flashed across Seren’s features.

With a silent nod, Anna walked to the right side of the bed and started with that wing. It had the most blood spattered across the feathers.

“Where can I touch that it’ll be the least… uncomfortable?” Anna asked quietly.

“Just keep your touch light and don’t go near where they’re attached,” Seren instructed in an equally quiet voice.

Anna nodded and started to wipe down the feathers with the wet cloth. The blood came off without too much pressure and Anna hardly needed her other hand to steady the wing. Seren seemed to be working to holding it in place. It twitched once Anna went over the small wounds. Anna went to put a little more pressure on it and Seren’s wing jumped up and hit her in the face so hard that she yelped and fell backwards off her spot sitting on the edge of the bed. She landed with a thump on the floor.

Seren lifted herself up to her arms and she was just staring at Anna, her whole body frozen.

Anna might just have felt how soft the feathers were to the touch, and they were heavenly soft, but getting the wing in your face it wasn’t and her nose throbbed a little. It hadn’t been broken but it easily could have.

Her heart was racing in her chest because she could imagine her family on a battlefield with winged creatures just like Seren and how they might have used their wings. It was a horrifying image and Anna tried to push it away immediately.

She shifted in her spot on the floor to get up and she realised she had accidentally landed on the squeaky goose toy that Nola had gotten her as a joke one exam season as a way to release stress. As she got off it, it let out the most hilarious slow sound and Anna didn’t even fight when she let out a little laugh. It broke the tension.

She fished out the toy and threw it to the side with a small smile. Seren had sat up a little more and she didn’t look as tense when Anna looked back up on the bed.

“I’m sorry.”

Anna knew it had to be reflexes more than conscious will that had gotten her knocked on her ass. Seren certainly didn’t look like she had meant to hurt her.

“If you want me to go, I’ll be-”

“No,” Anna interrupted. “It was an accident.”

“Yes, my wings are quite sensitive. I promise I did not mean to smack you on the floor,” Seren said and then she looked over at the goose toy. “What is that?��

“That thing?” Anna asked and pointed at it. “It’s a dog toy or something, I think. My roommate, well ex-roommate, got it for me once after I had seen a video with a similar toy that had us in stitches. I forgot I had that lying around.”

Anna got to her feet, properly this time and she considered if she should have shared that with Seren. It was an innocent enough anecdote but she could already feel Seren’s eyes analysing the statement, even if she didn’t comment on it.

Anna shouldn’t start talking to her about herself, even small and seemingly innocent things. Worst-case scenario she would let something slip and get her family endangered. She needed to keep her cards close to her chest, even if Seren was making it quite difficult.

“Ready to try again?” Anna asked and Seren quietly settled back into the bed.

“Take firmer hold of my wing this time.”

“But I thought-”

Seren shook her head against the pillow and turned to face Anna. “I don’t want to hurt you again.”

It was such a sincere statement. It reminded Anna of how the angel had looked when she had grabbed Anna’s hand on the gun and squeezed hard enough to leave bruises. Anna hadn’t actually considered that being hurt at all. She had been through so much worse and falling out of the bed or smacking her face was something she could have done on her own accord.

“I didn’t get hurt. I’m tougher than that,” Anna joked.

“I suspect you are,” Seren commented again with such sincerity.

Anna felt like her ears were burning and she focused back on the wing to get away from Seren’s intense gaze. With a bit of hesitation, she took a firmer hold of the feathers beneath her. The wing twitched under her grip as she removed a couple of glass shards. They were thankfully large enough that she could get a hold of them and pull them out in one piece. As she worked, the hand holding the wing got covered more and more in feathers with each twitch and slight tightening of her grip.

She took the washcloth over the wound once more and wiped away the blood but the wound looked clean. Even as she was finished, she couldn’t make herself remove her hand clutching onto the wing.

It was an odd sensation to have her hand buried in the feathers and she could feel the bones of the wings underneath her fingers and palm. These wings were similar to the ones that Anna had watched being hung as a trophy. The thought made her a little angry and her grip instinctively tightened.

Seren seemed to stop breathing. Anna had been very aware of the steady breath of the body next to her, steady no matter how much the wings twitched but now it was like she wasn’t breathing at all.

Anna immediately let go and Seren’s chest started to move again, taking in a big gulp of aor.

“Did you just hold your breath?” Anna asked in confusion. She had started breathing again too easily for Anna’s touch to have paralysed her.

“Yes,” Seren confessed. “Your hands... they... you held on tighter but your other hand wasn’t moving.”

Seren really hadn’t been kidding when she said that her wings were sensitive. Anna hadn’t made her grip painful at all. How the hell had angels been such fierce warriors and killers if just a tight hold on their wings caused them to freeze up? It didn’t seem like they would have been capable of doing much damage, or maybe Anna had just found a particularly sensitive spot.

Anna got up and walked to the bathroom to clean and rewet the cloth and once she came back, she walked over to the other side of the bed to take a look at the second wing. It hadn’t gotten as deep a wound as the other wing but a couple shards had been embedded a little. The motion became easier with experience and Anna’s hands moved steadily now and she made it a point not to bury her hands in the feathers like before.

It hadn’t been as bad as Anna had feared once she had looked at how limply Seren had been holding them compared to usual but she was still happy that they were cleaned, so they could heal properly now.

“All done, I think,” Anna said and got to her feet. “How do you feel?”

“Tired and tense,” Seren answered honestly.

She was too honest in Anna’s opinion. Anna would never have revealed that she was feeling on edge unless she was around someone she trusted completely. She could count those people on one hand.

“Oh,” Anna said because she had no idea how to respond to that. She had expected a ‘fine’ if she was being completely honest. Most people had social norms that dictated that they should pretend to be fine, even they weren’t. Maybe winged folk were raised differently, or it was just a Seren thing.

For some reason, Anna felt like it was a Seren thing.

“You’re not used to people speaking to you honestly?” Seren asked, curiosity obvious in her voice. Anna felt a little put on the spot by how quickly she had been seen through.

She did the opposite that Seren did. She lied because lying was easier than honestly and vulnerability. Never mind that she shouldn’t let herself be either of those around a mythical creature to begin with.

“I am,” she lied. “Just not used to mythical creatures being honest with me. Or talking much in general.”

She was always mixing truth and lies together.

“I wouldn’t consider our… situational usual,” Seren said. “But I am thankful for your help. I did not know what to expect when you showed up in the alley.”

“You thought I would kill you?” Anna asked, running her mouth before thinking it through, like usually.

Seren didn’t look shocked or offended though. She just smiled a little at the floor.

“You keep saying these things like it should be the first response from me. I don’t go around thinking of how people may wish to harm me.”

“How?” Anna asked intensely and the word hung heavy between the two of them. “How can’t you?”

Seren flipped her braid over her shoulder as she sat up cross-legged on the bed and started toying with the end of it. She looked a little lost in thought. Anna waited impatiently.

“I don’t know what you think you know about us, but I don’t think you have a comprehensive understanding of who we are.”

“I know enough,” Anna said defensively.

Fourth week of PEDIA and it almost broke me, not going to lie. It’s why I had to dig out excerpts of an old(ish) original novel that I still hope to finish one day. I was hit with being ill about halfway through this week and also just exhausted and burned out. I wasn’t sure that I was going to be able to pick myself up and complete PEDIA but I think differently now. I’ve already posted for today (Monday of week 35) and I’ve got the two final chapters of the skz ace/sex worker AU finished and just in need of editing, and I’m desperately writing the final couple of sections of my phan Stardew AU, which blessedly I have my beta helping me with. We are going to make it! And then I am also a fool an accidentally signed myself up to run 5k on Thursday for work, despite not having trained running for years. Wish me good luck with that too, I have a feeling might be harder than writing 5k.

A ideia de se mudarem para um lugar seguro, inicialmente parecia ótima na cabeça de Hunte, estariam protegidos, longe da guerra horrível que havia assombrado a superfície, mas a verdade é que o mundo não era um mar de rosas. Desde a mudança para Rapture, Hunter se apercebeu que havia muito mais para além daquilo que era demonstrado. Foi aí que a relação com o pai ruiu, quando descobriu ao certo aquilo que o homem fazia para ganhar a vida, e de nada se orgulhava disso.

Hoje foca toda sua atenção nos livros que escreve. Começou por lançar dois infantis, apenas para ‘testar as águas’ antes de se dedicar a um projeto maior. A relação com o pai ainda é algo que está por construir de novo, mas sua natureza reservada e orgulhosa ainda não permitiu que isso acontecesse. Sua maior ambição é talvez um dia ser professora de literatura e uma das melhores escritoras que já alguma vez existiu. Só não sabe se isso será possível em Rupture. 

personality: Uma garota introvertida e observadora, detesta a luz da ribalta e que foquem em si, afinal, sempre prefere ser um personagem secundário no mundo real, mesmo que em sua cabeça se sinta como o principal. Quem não a conhece pode pensar que é grossa, fria, distante e até nariz empinado, se achando melhor que todo o mundo, mas não é nada disso. No fundo é uma garota bastante carinhosa, com um coração grande demais e que na verdade apenas tem medo de se machucar e se dar a conhecer a outras pessoas, afinal, pelos vistos não podia nem confiar no próprio pai. Excerpt from chapter 1 of my original novel, working title WINGS (1.3k)

Anna Mars is from a long line of experienced supernatural hunters, and one day she meets Seren, a kind of winged creature that her family thought they had brought to extinction. An unlikely truce forms between them, and soon they find themselves caring about each other more than they should.

A/N: I worked on this novel in 2017-2019 and I almost finished the first book of a planned trilogy. It’s been a long time since I’ve touched it, but I thought perhaps sharing a couple of excerpts for my Posting Everyday In August (PEDIA) challenge might bring back my spark to work on my +170k wip, and not always go to my fanfics first. I adore these characters and their world so much. Enjoy!

When she had been younger, she had always been chastised for having a face like an open book. Every single emotion had always been so visible in her expression. She had trained herself out of the habit, and she was now fairly good at holding onto her poker face in any given situation.

But it had slipped right off since the angel had arrived.

She felt shook to her core and she felt like she couldn’t pull up her usual defences at all.

“What are you going to do?” Anna asked, and she was proud that her voice didn’t shake too much.

Now it was the angel’s turn to frown. She had hunched down next to the wolf, and she ran her hand down its back. Her golden wings weren’t been concealed or camouflaged now.

She was keeping them on display, and it made the whole thing even more unnerving.

Partly because they were beautiful to look at, as much as Anna hated to admit it, and partly because it reminded Anna just what someone like this creature was capable of.

“Do?” she asked. “I’m not… You’re the one who came here. With your weapons.”

The last bit said with a clear distaste, and a distrustful glance at Anna’s net shooter and hunting knife that had been tossed aside in their struggle. At the reminder, Anna became conscious of the gun in her waist holster.

She could get a shot off. She might be able to bring down the angel but even if she managed to shoot, she had no doubt that the wolf would attack and rip out her throat. It wasn’t an advisable plan of action.

Anna couldn’t see how she would get out of this one okay. She was playing it by ear and just trying to look for an opening to either attack or retreat.

The silence lingered. The angel looked conflicted if the expression on her face was anything to go by. If Anna was an open book, then this creature was inviting you in to see the entire library all at once.

Anna saw flickers of doubt, worry, fear, anger and insecurity flash and interchange.

“You’re a hunter, right?”

Anna had never spoken to mythical creatures before. Usually, at most they were snarling curses in the heat of battle. All creatures should be killed on sight. You should never attempt to go for capture. It would just run the risk of the creature getting away and seeking revenge or causing mayhem.

“Yes.”

Anna didn’t see any reason to lie. The tone of voice suggested that the angel was asking a question that she already knew the answer to. However, at Anna’s reply the creature’s wings twitched and moved upwards slightly.

Anna’s eyes followed the movement curiously.

Then the wings disappeared before her very eyes. Again.

“Would you have killed the unicorn and her baby?” the angel asked, shifting her weight from one foot to another. She looked uncomfortable and anxious about this whole thing.

She should lie. Anna knew that. She should just make up some excuse, no matter how unlikely it would sound.

In fact, she had hesitated. She hadn’t shot right away like she had been taught to do. Hesitating in this business got you killed. Anna was hesitating with her answer too, and it should have been her second mistake but for some reason it didn’t seem to be.

The winged creature waited for an answer patiently with an attempt at a neutral expression. Even the wolf was sitting down obediently, and it didn’t growl unless Anna tried to move.

It seemed very unlikely but maybe she had a chance of walking away from this. This angel clearly wasn’t all right in the head, if she thought that talking to a hunter would be good practice. Anna wondered if she was the only one left of her kind, and if that might be why she was acting so weird and going up to other magical creatures and even humans.

“I��� I was… Yes. No, I don’t know. I should have. They’re dangerous,” Anna spit out, in one rapid stream of words once she caught her momentum.

The angel looked at her with something almost like pity in her expression.

“What do you say, Lune?” she asked the wolf, who tilted back its head and let out soft whines in its throat.

Could they communicate like that?

“He doesn’t like you.”

It was blunt and honest and it caught Anna by surprise and she didn’t quite manage to catch the first few sputters of her laugh.

“The feeling is mutual,” Anna replied and eyed the wolf, as she forced down the surprise laugh.

“Why do you hunt us?” the angel asked, and curiosity was painted clear on her face. She sounded almost childlike in how she asked, so honestly and openly. She was soaking up every reluctant word out of Anna’s mouth.

Anna was doing the same for most parts. She was filing away every bit of information. It would come in handy later, if she got to go back to her family and tell them about this odd angel that she encountered. However, she did find herself momentarily distracted by intensity in the angel’s blue eyes.

“To keep people safe,” Anna recited.

She had asked herself that question before. She’d asked her father and she had asked her uncle. When they said it, it had sounded so simple. When she had been antagonising over it on her own, she felt like the lines were a bit more blurred. So, it came easier to parrot their practiced answers.

“From us?” the angel asked and the beginning of a smile tilted up the corner of her lips a little. She sounded genuinely amused.

“Werewolves maul innocents. Vampires kill their meals. Spirits torment the living. Shapeshifters play tricks and ruin lives. Unicorns impale anyone on their territory,” Anna spit out easily. “And you winged folk are the worst of the lot.”

The angel tilted her head to the side and the smile slipped off before it could properly take hold. Now she just looked sad, as she hummed under her breath.

It looked like she wanted to say something. Like she had something on the tip of the tongue but either she couldn’t bring herself to voice it, or she couldn’t find the words to articulate what she wanted to say.

“Why are you out here alone? If you think we’re so dangerous, why wouldn’t you bring back-up?”

Anna hated that the angel was able to voice the inner monologue that had been going on in Anna’s head since she realised what she had accidentally stumbled onto. She shouldn’t have been here alone. She had gone against protocol, and now it might end up getting her killed.

Technically, she should already be dead considering the circumstances but her heart was beating, a bit too fast perhaps, but it was steady and strong.

She hadn’t been sliced open by the wolf’s claws and she hadn’t been picked up by the angel and dropped to her death like…

Anna shook her head before the old grief came back up. It wouldn’t help her at the moment. It would only make things worse.

“I don’t play well with others,” Anna shot back, opting to keep it light and funny despite the grave circumstances.

“Is that so?” the angel asked with a perfectly raised eyebrow. “So, all hunters aren’t like you?”

“How many have you met?”

The angel took a step forward, away from the wolf at her side. Anna was still sitting on the ground, staring up at the angel and it made her feel small and vulnerable. Clearly that must be the angel’s tactic, to make her feel inferior and…

“You’re deflecting. Stand up please.”

“What?” Anna barked.

“Unless you’d prefer to stay on the ground.”
