I’m way behind on posting about my rewatch - there’s plenty I do want to say about S2, and there’s a whole essay about gender and Phases that I’m probably never going to write - but I’m into Season 3 and I really want to note how much early S3 establishes the issues that are going to drive Buffy’s long breakdown in seasons 6 and 7.

Firstly, Buffy's tendency to pull away from her friends, feeling she has to take care of everything for herself and protect them from her problems and her feelings rather than sharing them. It’s a consistent pattern, and we see it in her running away at the end of Season 2, and continually refusing to talk about what happened with Angel with both the Scoobies and Faith. When she eventually does try to talk to her assigned school counsellor about Angel, she explicitly says she can’t talk to anyone else about what’s happening (only to find him dead, which I’m sure didn’t help).

Of course, this isn’t just a flaw of Buffy’s - her friends have a pretty big role to play, especially Xander. His sanctimonious, judgemental whining about Buffy leaving, as well as anything to do with Angel, does a lot to push Buffy away. (Not to mention the first thing he does when he finds out Angel is back is try to manipulate Faith into murdering him.) It’s also hard not to suspect that Xander’s lie back in Becoming did a lot of damage - because of that, Buffy thinks even Willow hates Angel and wouldn’t understand her continued feelings for him. ‘Kick his ass’ made Buffy feel like literally no-one is on her side.

Regardless of the reason, here we see the beginning of the split that will make Buffy feel increasingly isolated and unable to trust or rely on anyone as the series continues into the depression years, especially Season 6. But we also see the start of a pattern that will become a central flaw in Season 7 - her inability to express empathy or care for anyone who she sees as a reflection of herself.

I’m actually not talking about Faith here - that’s related, but it’s also a whole can of lesbian worms I don’t want to get into right now. But aside from Faith, in the first few episodes of Season 3 there are two girls who mirror Buffy, specifically in her relationship with Angel. In Anne, we have Lily/Anne, who’s wants to spend the rest of her life with her older boyfriend, who has a criminal past and seems a little crappy but also genuinely loves her and is trying to be good to her, and who ends up being sent to hell. Then in Beauty and the Beasts, we see Abby, who started dating a guy who seemed nice at first, but who turned out to be an abusive monster. Both are very obvious parallels to Buffy in her relationship with Angel (in soul-having and soulless forms), and serve as ways for her reflect on that relationship.

But what I want to focus on is the fact that, while Buffy does try to help both girls, she’s also unusually harsh and unempathetic towards them. Her attitude is ‘This is how things are, and you need to set aside your emotions and just deal with it immediately and without emotional support’; it reflects how she treats herself, but it’s also a pattern in how she treats people whose challenges reflect hers. Which will come to a head in how she treats the Potential slayers in season 7, and the way she alienates everyone around her in part through her treatment of them (and therefore also her treatment of herself).

It’s just interesting to see these issues that will dominate the last couple of seasons come across so strongly in this early part of Season 3.

Chapter 1: A leopard's fur to skin

'Huff...hu..'

You heave quenching on any breath to keep the adrenaline going, not knowing a single ounce of your location as your run aimlessly through the woods, whipping your head back to see the those bloody red eyes of the Flesh Craving wolves, as they chase with the clear intend on hunting you down.

You run attempt to Exceed the limit of what little stamina you still possess, looking up at the sky on how you even in this place, the day was Bright stepping into town with your colleagues before a snatch of your wallet was made chasing down the thief self protection was something you should have thought about The thief ends your life with a slice to your throat making you fall causing a collide with wall bashing head first onto the hard pavement.

Squeezing your lids shut in poor attempt to shield the hefty pain of your pulsating lungs, Adrenaline Has a restrictions which is boundary that can't be crossed and you have far Past that limit the legs once racing slow almost to a halt as you stumble over the rocky dirt.

Head hitting against the large tree behind your form as you backtrack observing the surroundings watching for a safe path that wouldn't stun you but the search is over quick, cowering into the tree you look up for a possibly climbing point but the branches thin and weak unable to hold body wait still you claw and scrap against the tree with your nails.

Seconds pass as you skid down the bark of the tree, facing a pack that smell the intense fear as liquid drips down the crusts of their lips slowly legs pace towards your form.

You yell out in attempt to scare them off but you know that these can smell the fear radiating off of you, clenching your eyes as tears fill your vision hearing the sound of feet leaping off of the ground, holding your arms to protect yourself in a frenzie.

Hearing a sharp whimper and squelch, Your eyes jump open hearing the loud Roar of a animal looking up to see the back of some sort of cheetah, Leopard looking between the legs of the animal to see the remainder of the hungry beasts retreating but the animal that has saved your life just might be the one to end you.

It turns towards the covering female, the beast looking down upon as it slowly approaches with your last breath you attempt to scream but throat hoarse and raw slowly almost face to face its face beginning to contort and a soften soon enough changing into the face and body of a young man, and the bare body of one too.

He smiles which then switches to a face of pure awe, slowly becoming barely a few centimeters away.

"STOP, GET BACK"

 You yell out shifting back, wincing in pain at the sprained ankle the Leopard man thing? Stares at you with awe almost as if stars had shot themselves directly in. He bows down taking a small whiff of your chest taking in the scent through your shirt, pushing him back you cover yourself with your hands.

"Female, are you okay?"

He enthusiastic blurts out holding onto your hand helping you up to your feet, leaning your back onto the tree that sits behind you, you look up at him still quite suspicious and anxious of him.

"I...I think I'm okay, i don't know okay!"

You mumble your words out, does he even care? You shake your head holding your hand up towards your agape mouth in thought, my mind racing of what to say what would I do? Your mind constantly looking for a solution and a reason for your appearance in this world.

"Hm...good"

He calls out letting out a small smirk as he stares down at you.

"Hi, im Parker a male from the leopard clan"

You jump at his voice your mind too out of thought, you looking at him fumbling on what to say, what could you say? What would you come up with?

"Your pretty possibly from the fox clan?, but you have no ears"

He says looking deep into the pits of your eyes, his lukewarm breath onto the soft of your right cheek face.

You look at him confused, clan?..is he referring to my specie, or is he talking about the type of people I surround myself what exactly does he mean.

"Im..a human?..I don't know what type of clan you mean.."

You ramble biting your lip in pure contemplation, what exactly else could you say?, 'Yeah I'm a human i don't know where I am', makes you feel as if you should have just said it instead of partially lying?...

"Hmmm..never heard of human before, you can join the leopard clan you are a female and I did find you so your mine!"

He yells out his voice energetic and hyper, almost too excited considering the situation..

"Come on ill bring you back to my tribe"

You see the familiar Pattern of fur began to form as his body contorts and forms hearing the shifting of bones as thethe familiar face of the leopard begin to form the beady eyes staring right at you. He signals for you to climb onto his furry back, you contemplate the sacres options out in the wilderness where those wolves may return for their dead pack mate or take it with the leopard.

Neither choice was bright but the leopard was more conscious and could help you possibly return or atleast get you Attended to as you soothe the pain of your strained ankle, slowly you climb onto his back attempting to get comfortable as he beings to sprint off.

You look out in the sky hoping for the eventual return to your original world to your home  and family, your friends and colleagues but you know its not that easy, tears of anger prick at your eyes vowing to get revenge on the man who ended your life and discover whoever brought you to this place and give them a piece of your mind, leaving you with nothing but the pain of ache in your heart and a new world your forced to discover.

The female who loves Ferals

Iris was abandoned by her family due to the males in the village not wanting her. What will happen when a group of snake beastman challenge what she believes about herself.

Name Iris

Age 16

Looks 5ft9,135lb long white hair, cream skin, blue eyes, black panther fur dress that ends above her knees.

Iris belonged to a small tiger village.

Loves sweet fruit and meat.

Iris is normally calm and loving to everyone. When she was betrayed by her clansman she developed a coldness. She believes she is useless because thats what they all said about her. She was the only female in the village without a male.

Chapter 1

I was peeling fruit for my mother who was becoming ill. My father and her other spouses mistreat me by taking my food so they can give it to her. "Go get yourself a spouse that way you won't have to work." My father said when I grabbed a forage bag.  I would have a spouse if my sister didn't force herself on him. Then again I was the unwanted cub of the family let alone the village. I was able to find snow caps, crunchy fruits, woodears, bubble fruits, crabsnaps. While walking back my father stops me. "You are a useless female and our resources cant be waisted on you anymore." I was about to beg him to let me back in but he only turned his back to me. Why when the ice season is not to far off.

I make my way back into the woods to try and find another village. I am only a female and can't last long on my own. It was almost night fall and I have no idea where I am going. My feet started to hurt from the walking. "I need to find somewhere to sleep for the night." I said to no one in particular. I found a cave slowly creeping inside only to find five male snake beastman. They all had different patterns with their scales and hair. "Hello female are you lost." The white haired and scaled one asked curling around me. "Umm....mmmm" I couldn't speak. "Come now don't be shy female. We won't hurt you we promise." The multi colored haired one said shyly. He had white scales with red and black dots scattered threw out his tail. "Yes come in female it's dangerous outside at night." The blond haired one side he had bans of black,red,and tan.  "We only want to help you female." One with long black hair said making me want to run. His scales were the color of sand and had smoke color patterns. "Yes please stay we can protect you." The spike black haired one said. His scales were black with gold and white dots running along his tail. Sitting by the fire with them even though every cell in my body told me to run.  I learned the white one's name is ghost, the red black and white one's name is Salem,the one with bands on his tail name is king,the one with smoke patterns on his tail is Sahara, and the black with gold and white is Djin. They are brother's but never wanted to separate "so no mate marks and your out here." King asked finding it odd. "My father kicked me out of my village. I am going to die if I don't find a mate of a village that will take me." I said the snakes look at eachother before looking at me. "How about five mates. We are all Tara marked so they will have no choice but to accept you and us." King said before I knew it I had five marked. "We will head for the village in the morning. Let's rest for now flower." Ghost said as they all wrap around me.
