[JR] I saw an image similar to this floating around Twitter a few days back and thought it would be fun to do one that focused only on K-Pop artists (I know the original image had groups like BTS and Twice on there, but we wanted it to expand on it). Hwang Jungha (ex-BEATWIN) – INTP

Cognitive Functional Stack  – Ti Ne Si Fe

Hwang Jungha is a quiet, understated member of The Unit, who only gets significant screen time after the judges realise how attractive he is.  This is unfortunate, because he is a man made of more than just looks and should be appreciated for it.

Since he is an introvert, Jungha can be quite quiet.  However, because his leading function is Ti, or introverted thinking, when he does speak up, it is usually either to offer pinpointed insight or to ask a specific question.  For instance, he asks, “Sangil, why do you always look so miserable?”, which is very direct, and slightly unfeeling, showing his inferior Fe.  INTPs do not sugar-coat their words.

His Ti and Ne are strong and work well together, making him both witty and perceptive.  He is the first competitor, out of all the male and female contestants, who notices the camera men’s reaction to Hyunjoo’s performance at the tryouts for the new centre.  He says to Lee Geon, “look at the camera men,” as he knows that everyone else will find the camera men’s reactions outrageous (Ne-Si-Fe);  and soon enough, everyone is talking about it.  

His Ne allows him to have a good understanding of consequences – it works often in conjunction with his Fe, for example, when he’s eliminated, he says, “how can I face my mum now?”  In addition, during the Lee Geon / Daewon confrontation in the boxing ring, he’s foresighted enough to offer the condition to his statements about Lee Geon that, “I’m telling you about this because the three of us are really close”, rather than just launching in with accusations as Daewon did.  This shows how he understands that the audience need that context not to think less of them (Ti/Ne/Fe).

His Ti-Fe axis, with a bit of his Si, makes him very independent but loyal to his close group of friends.  When Lee Geon chooses to sit away from him at the first meeting, he is as bemused and disappointed as Daewon, although he can probably understand it a little better. INTPs aren’t usually leaders, and Jungha never makes much effort to be a leader.  He is often to be found doing his own thing separately, for instance, sitting and eating while the rest of Question team are messing around together. INTPs are laid back socially so he won’t have been particularly bothered that the others were having fun without him.

He suffers from a lack of confidence in himself, because he doesn’t have past successes to weigh himself against (Si), and so says things like, “I think I’m in last place” regularly. This also means he’s never afraid to ask for help, for instance from Kanto.  However, it also leaves him vulnerable to pressure, for example when he is picked out of the Question group to dance with Euijin as a duo in front of the choreographers.  In this instance, he completely crumbles;  his Si deserts him and he’s clearly so beholden to Ne-type worry that he suddenly can’t even remember any of the dance moves.  He does find the choreographers’ judgement of him very embarrassing (Fe) and his face flushes in a noticeable way.   When he actually wins first place in his team for once, he’s extremely surprised, and immediately brushes off his success, saying, “I won first place because of the help of my colleagues.”

His Ne leads to wacky moments, such as muttering weird phrases to himself and messing around with JunQ and Marco in the rehearsal room for Red Sun team.  INTPs can be very spontaneous socially, when they express themselves a lot using their Ne and jump from idea to idea in a more physical environment.  Jungha’s known for playing jokes a lot and having a “4D” personality.

INTPs have a hard time dealing with emotions, due to their inferior Fe.  This manifests clearly in Jungha, since he struggles to express his feelings, for instance with describing what KBS means to him.  His fellow ex-bandmates of Beatwin also described him as being a little “indifferent” to the needs and emotions of others around him. He would much rather be asking analytical questions to understand the processes going on around him than expressing feeling (Ti-dom).  In spite of possessing Fe, due to it’s inferior position, INTPs wouldn’t go out of their way to please or gratify another person unless there was a specific reason for doing so.

Overall, INTPs usually prefer the experience of an event, as opposed to reaching a particular end result or outcome.  Consequently, you can see this in the way that Jungha sits back and simply enjoys his ride on the often challenging Unit program, until the very end.  His loyalty to his Madtown bros is steadfast in spite of his weaker Si and Fe, and his Ti-Ne wittiness makes him an interesting character to follow.  It’s been great to see him back in UNB’s latest MV and performances, so I really hope that he builds upon this and it isn’t the end for his career.  Please follow him on Instagram and continue supporting Hwang Jungha!
