1955. The year Doc Brown thought of his time machine. The year the town hall's clock had stopped working. The year Marty's parents met. You and Marty were currently in an-old fashioned diner, relaxing your nerves from what the past few hours had brought. Doc Brown getting killed by terrorists -who were looking for him-, traveling to 1955, and now trying to find him.

You and your friend went to the telephone booth that the counterman had directed you to, and looked for Doc Brown's name. "He's on here." You pointed out his name. A phone number was next to his name.

Marty dialed it, and waited for an answer. No answer. You peered past your shoulder, and there was the counterman, looking at the both of you.

"Marty, I don't think he's there. Let's just get a drink and cool off a moment." You both left the phone booth and sat down on the bar stools cemented in front of the counter. People gave you and Marty funny looks. They already gave him crap on his jacket that reminded them as a life jacket. You couldn't help but laugh.

For a moment, you had looked around the place. The colors were vibrant, and the floors were checkered. It was pretty quiet. The only people near you was a man sitting at the bar stool next to Marty, eating his cereal -who you must admit looked like his dad- and another young man sitting next to him, writing what looked like an assignment.

The history lectures did not tell you how different 1955 was. Not at all. "Can I get a Pepsi Free?" Marty asked the counterman. "Yeah, I wish I could have it for free, too." You sighed and shook your head. "Just...a drink without any sugar in it, please."

"I'll take an orange juice," you say. The counterman immediately went to work on our drinks. As the two of you waited for your beverages, you decided to have small talk. "So, you think Doc will believe us?"

Marty had an unreadable look, but sure enough, responded, "I hope so. He's the only one who knows what to do. Two point one gigawatts! Where could we get that? Only Doc would know!" He covered his face with his hands. "I should have grabbed the plutonium."

You put a hand on his shoulder, and reassured him. "Marty, you couldn't have thought of plutonium at a time like that. I know you. Doc was the only person, and the only thing you were thinking of."

You both drifted into silence, and the door opened, a group of kids walked in. "Biff?" You and Marty asked yourselves as you watched him walk by to stop in front of the other two people sitting.

The orange juice and sugarless drink were placed down, but neither of you paid attention to it. Too worried about Biff's intentions.

"Hey, McFly." He said, snottily, looking at the man. So is that George? He continued eating his cereal. Marty just looked at Biff, confused. "McFly, hello?" He started knocking on the young boy's head with his knuckles. "What, Biff?" George asked. "You got my homework done?" Biff asked. "Is that my dad?" Marty leaned over to ask you in a whispered tone. "I'm pretty sure." You answered.

"Why can't you do your own damn homework, Biff?" The other man asked, looking over at the standing bully. "Oh, what a surprise. The coward has the guts to speak up to me." He grabbed a fistful of his shirt. "Hey, hey stop!" You exclaimed. Biff released his shirt and glared at you. "And who exactly do you think you are, gorgeous?" You mentally threw up, and answered, "I'm Beatrice."

"Beatrice," Biff says in a weird voice. "Such a gorgeous name for such a beautiful girl." Marty looked like he was about to snap at him. "Hey, didn't your parents teach you how to treat a lady?" His gang gasped, and Biff's face turned red in anger. "Who do you think you are?"

"Her boyfriend." Marty answered confidently, putting and arm around your shoulders, causing you to blush. Him? Your boyfriend? "Oh well, I can change that quickly." Biff said in a dirty tone, leaning close to you. You turned your head to the right, looking at the 'coward' Biff referred to. Your father. And George. Marty's dad. Your dad looked at you and did a half nod. "Hey, Biff. Leave her alone." He warned. "Oh yeah? Why should I?"

"Because if you don't you really will regret coming here today. You don't ever disrespect people when I'm around." You lean your head next to Marty's ear. "I think I just met my dad in 1955."

Some were rejected for good reasons: Freddie Mercury isn’t a girl, Princess Di died too recently, and Trish is from one lady’s single Tiktok. Some were rejected for petty and foolish reasons, such as “I don’t like Hetalia” and “I don’t like early 2000s movies.”

Under the cut is all the match-ups in plain text for those of you who with to ctrl+F for their girlboss. If your own girlboss didn’t make it in, feel free to send in asks about how I’m a fool for running this poll without including your rejected babygirl.

Additionally, feel free to peruse the original spreadsheet to see everyone who didn’t make it in. It is organized in no way shape or form besides the occasional collating of characters who had multiple submissions (notably, Vriska).

If there’s anything I should know about any of the accepted girlbosses (”The person who played this girlboss is currently being prosecuted for murder in North Carolina” or other similar aspects of despicability that should get them disqualified) please inform me off-anon, with evidence. While some of these girlbosses are literal murderers, those who have shed human blood are either fictional or have been dead for over a century, but I don’t want any current murderers around. I want everyone on tumblr to be able to enjoy this tournament if possible.

Ad Astra News - 7/2 - 7/8

State of the Archive

Okay, so listen up. This is important.A lot of people coming to Ad Astra have never been a part of the Ad Astra community back when we were still running on eFiction. They're new authors from AO3, especially, who are used to a certain kind of culture and looking for alternatives to AO3; that culture is often far more passive in its consumption and less interactive in general. While AO3 is an incredible resource, it's not really a fan community. That's not meant as a disparagement; AO3 serves its intended purpose (maybe even too well) of being a place where everyone can safely archive stories. It is not, though, a social platform, nor was it meant to be.

Ad Astra is, by contrast, a community. When you're over here archiving your stories frantically, distressed by what's happening with OTW, you're stepping foot into a place with a very long history that has been kept alive by a relatively small number of people who love it. Who have paid for its survival for years, even when we were broke and literally scraping change together from the core community to keep afloat. Even when we were quiet. Even when we lost two of our own to death by illness. And even when it felt hopeless. We have been, for almost fifteen years, a circle of people -- sometimes larger, sometimes smaller, sometimes just a few die-hards -- telling each other stories and celebrating each others stories around a campfire. This is what you're coming into. So I need you, the new people, to understand that you aren't owed this space. We invite you (general you) into it, and we will gladly -- joyfully -- fold you into our community, but you aren't entitled to this. If you want it to survive, if you want the efforts of those of us who have poured incredible hours of time and money and effort into this just so we could offer it to you for free to continue, then do your part to keep it alive. Celebrate your fellow authors. Write comments. Write recs. Talk on the forums, join a rewatch, host a rewatch. Join the weekly challenge. Get involved. (And, you know, follow my tagging rules and stop trying to sneak around them. LOL! I see you. If it's not useful for universal search filtering, it doesn't belong on the archive and I will cull it with glee. XD) Any fan community starts and ends with its people, not with its platform. I know you like the platform. Now come and celebrate the people, and let us celebrate you, too. Thanks.

Yess - I love associating songs to my favorite silly guys ! :D

I decided to add all three of my current f/os , I hope that’s okay !!

For Jaw Bone , my beloved skeleton man , I decided to go for something energetic that might fit his fiery ( pun intended 👌) personality :

I think it’s a nice fit , kinda wanted it to reflect his rebellious attitude against L.A.W and their system !

For Beatrice I wanted to find a song that could embody the hopelessness she feels because of all the things she had to go through , so I ended up going for this really nice cover of one of my favorite Bo Burnham songs :

There are parts of the lyrics that really reminded me of her , especially “Seeker , do you ever come to wonder if what you’re looking for is within where you hold ? Saw this going around so I made my own list. In no particular order, here are my favorite female characters from different fandoms.

1. Minerva McGonagall - Harry Potter

Probably because I used to be a teacher. McGonagall is no nonsense with a heart, and I love that.

2. Princess Leia - Orig. Star Wars

Feminine and strong.

3. Mara Jade Skywalker - Orig. SW EU (because I won’t call them Legends because that’s stupid)

Mara is Luke’s perfect foil. While the rest of the galaxy worships the Jedi Master, Mara’s always testing him and challenging him. She’s tough, pessimistic, and fierce.

4. Ainsley Hayes - The West Wing

Constantly dropping nukes on people’s expectations of her.

I just love that a show that focuses on left wing politics included a smart, witty, female Republican to challenge the worldview of the main characters. It elevated the show so much, and I just wish they’d kept her on longer.

5. Chrisjen Avasarala - The Expanse

Expletive-spewing, BS-intolerant, Grandma Boss of all planet Earth 💪
