For those of you who wanted the Beast to stay a hot beast in the end.
I recommend this book!
⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ Villain is a rapist (and no it's not Gaston, this isn't the Disney ver.) and a rape occurs in the first 50 pages (one).
They say Château Beaumont is cursed. The new servant girl, Lucie, is sure that everyone is lying about her new master, handsome Jean-Loup, Chevalier de Beaumont. But when he reveals his cruelty, Lucie vows revenge. A wisewoman grants her wish and turns Jean-Loup into a hideous monster, as ugly outside as he is inside. But the Beast is nothing like the chevalier. He's kind and thoughtful, full of remorse for the wrong that was done to Lucie. She realises that Beast is a different person entirely and hopes that he can permanently replace the heartless Jean-Loup- Until an innocent beauty with the power to break the spell arrives at the Château.

#i read it in 2 days#beautiful imagery and the beast truly is the sweetest most lovable creature.#and i feel like the main character is so real#Beast; A Tale of Love and Revenge

What does Alecto want?
This is something I thought about while I wrote that post about Gideon's immortality.
When people speak about Alecto the book and Alecto the character, there is often an assumption that Alecto wants revenge for John turning her into a Barbie, and that our main characters want to kill God.
I'm not going to get too much into what I think the endgame might be for Jod (I'll leave it for another day) but I have some observations about Alecto!
First, people think Alecto wants revenge for the initial act of ripping her soul out and stuffing it in a Barbie body. I'm honestly not so sure that's her main concern!
Initially, Alecto's main fear is dying:

This is presumably what frightened her when in pain as Gaia, and what frightened her here, starting her life with John at the end of the world.
Of course, in the middle, there's her actual murder, and how she felt about it:

This fragment is so interesting. Most of this chapter the dialogue is in quotation marks, indicating it's not the memory of John and Alecto but current dialogue between John and Harrowhark.
John tells Harrow what happened. He is the one who asks her if she remembers what Alecto said. She (Harrowhark) said “What else did I say?”. And when Harrow says “I still love you”, Jod remembers that Alecto was also willing to love him despite what he'd done.
But Harrow is left without the answer to one question. “Where did you put the people? Where did they go?”
After this paragraph, she will say there are things she doesn't understand:

Apparently Alecto's memory isn't fully accessible, or she can't know Alecto's thought process, or there's bits of her memory gone for other reasons, whether it's John's intervention (unlikely, given how much incriminating stuff Alecto does remember) or because that's what was most traumatic to her and—unlike John's tale of apocalypse—nobody later reminded her. (Diegetically, of course, Tamsyn is simply saving that reveal for Harrow's arc in Hell.)
In any case: after being told the entire story about being killed and turned into a Barbie, Harrowhark still says “I want to understand why she was angry”. And that's seemingly tied to why John was terrified.
And the text directly relates that to the missing population of the Earth.
There are three things that very nearly make Nona fully recover the memory of who she was. One is when Pyrrha very nearly says her name, and Nona doesn't want to hear it. Later she doesn't seem to be lucid enough to react to Ianthe saying it, but she does react to this final line: Ianthe yelling “John loves Alecto!”. In the meantime, however, there's one more thing that shakes Nona deeply enough she has an actual heart attack:

And it's the sight of the Tower that makes Nona lose the will to live:

She also gets a couple passages where the sight of devils touches some deep, frightening memory. And we are given one last clue:

The River is dead.
We knew as early as HtN that the River is broken in some way. Its waters are described as brackish, salty, dirty, full of ghosts represented as rotting corpses. It doesn't seem to flow anywhere as rivers should. House religion says the dead wait as mad ghosts until John conducts his Second Resurrection. John of course has planted House theology with his idea to conduct “a flood” at some point and start over (“empty is just another word for clean”, etc.), once his revenge is done. He needs souls to not move on, in order to do that. We know through Abigail and Dulcinea that there is another shore, a Beyond that they've managed to exceptionally reach.
Alecto seems upset, above all, by what happened to the River, and that it remains unfixed.

Alecto states that she no longer fears death. She has experienced it (“I died once… no, twice”, and that's before her brief tenure as Nona).
She might be ready to leave John behind and move on, but.
What if she can't move on?
By which I mean: what if she—a Resurrection Beast, intimately acquainted with the spiritual dimension that is the River—what if she knows that she could never cross it as it is now, if she were to die? What if she knows that she would be absorbed by the stoma in the River's current condition, or float around insane forever? What if the sum of all necromantic transgression is that Jod committed ecocide on the afterlife and true death is no longer possible?
What if she needs the River to be healed in order to die?
To conclude, two other tidbits:
1. When Nona, trying not to engage with her Alecto consciousness, briefly considers just giving up and dying, she says:

2. Palamedes speaks of the Beyond (after briefly witnessing Dulcinea as she is there in TUG) right before he describes Paul as an end and a beginning. I don't think this is accidental?

Gather ‘round, ye merry souls, and let me spin ye a tale so wild, so full of twists and turns, ye’ll scarce believe it true. It’s the story of a rogue, aye, but not just any rogue—nay, this one’s a beast of a different sort. Trunk Shadowveil, they call him, a Loxodon, if ye can fathom it. That’s right, an elephant, skulkin’ through the shadows of Baldur’s Gate like some great tusked ghost. Now, I know what ye’re thinkin’—an elephant rogue? Pull the other one, stranger! But I swear on me mother’s grave, every word of it’s as true as the ale in yer mug.
Picture it: a massive beast, ten foot tall, with a trunk that could snatch a coin from yer pocket afore ye even knew it was gone. Stealthy? Ha! Ye’d think a creature that size couldn’t sneak up on a deaf man, but Trunk, he’s got ways. He’s a marvel, he is, a walkin’ contradiction, and that’s what makes him legend.
Like all good tales, this one starts with sorrow. Trunk’s herd—peaceful Loxodon folk, mindin’ their own—were slaughtered by poachers. Ivory hunters, hired by some shadowy noble with a taste for rare trophies. They came in the night, and by dawn, Trunk was the last of his kin, a wee calf standin’ amidst the carnage, his heart heavy as stone. Aye, it’s a grim beginnin’, but that’s how these stories go, ain’t it?
But fate’s a funny thing. Just when ye think all’s lost, along comes a band of rogues from Baldur's Gate Guild. They stumble upon this tremblin’ calf, and instead of seein’ a burden, they see potential—or maybe just a good laugh. They take him in, raise him in the underbelly of the city, teach him the trade. Lockpickin’ with that nimble trunk of his, daggerplay—though his daggers are more like swords to the likes of us—and, aye, even stealth. Now, stealth for an elephant? Ye can imagine how that went. He’d try to blend into the shadows, but let’s be honest, a Loxodon’s about as subtle as a dragon in a library. He’d pose as a statue in the marketplace, or knock over a stall and claim it was “part of the plan.” And somehow, bless him, it worked. He was never outmatched only on one terrain - in a tomato field. No matter how hard others tried - no amount of scrying was able to find him hiding between these red veggies.
The Guild loved him for it, especially his mentor, a halfling named Sly Jack, a rogue with a silver tongue and a heart black as coal. Trunk looked up to Jack like a father, trusted him with his life. But ye know how these tales go—betrayal’s always lurkin’ ‘round the corner. During a heist on a corrupt merchant’s vault, things went sideways. The Flaming Fist was waitin’, tipped off by none other than Sly Jack himself. He pinned the whole mess on Trunk, sold him out for a fat purse of gold. Trunk, in a panic, did what any self-respectin’ elephant would do—he smashed through the wall and bolted, leavin’ a trail of chaos in his wake. From that day on, he swore vengeance on The Guild that raised him, determined to bring ‘em down, one bungled caper at a time, and he does not intend to back out of this whole revenge gig - you can say what you want about Trunk, but he sure does have a damn good memory.
But here’s where it gets interestin’. Despite his life of crime, Trunk’s got a heart of gold. He’s no common cutpurse, oh no. He only steals from the rich—greedy nobles, shady merchants, the lot—and slips the loot to the downtrodden. They call him the “Elephant of the People,” a hero with tusks. He’s got a code, ye see, won’t harm the innocent, and he’s fiercely loyal to the few friends he’s got left. Aye, he’s a rogue, but he’s the kind ye can’t help but root for.
And if that weren’t enough, there’s whispers of more to Trunk’s story. Some say he’s the long-lost heir to an ancient dynasty, rulers of a forgotten empire, beyond Chult. Some madmans claim that he is an offspring of a powerful wizard, strong enough to walk between planes of existance, and that his kind is from another world. Others mutter about an ancient prophecy, a “great tusked shadow” destined to bring balance to the underworld. Trunk dismisses it as tavern talk, but sometimes, in the quiet of night, he dreams of a crown atop his head and wonders if there’s truth to it.
But let’s not forget the best part—his signature flair. Trunk’s got a move that’s all his own: usin’ that trunk of his to snatch purses or keys while distractin’ foes with his sheer, absurd presence. “Look at me, I’m just a harmless elephant!” he’d say, all innocent-like, while his trunk’s riflin’ through their pockets. And he’s got a lucky charm, a chipped ivory die from a fallen comrade, which he rolls before every job. Street-smart as they come, but ask him to read a scroll, and he’ll scratch his head like a confused ox.
Now, I know what ye’re thinkin’: an elephant rogue? It’s madness! But that’s the beauty of it. Trunk Shadowveil’s a walkin’ punchline, a lumberin’ legend who somehow makes it all work. I’ve seen him with me own eyes, ye know. Once, he tried to sneak into a noble’s manor, got his trunk stuck in a window. Took three of us to pull him out, and even then, he claimed it was “all part of the plan.” Another time, he faced down a gang of bandits, only to trip over his own feet and send ‘em scatterin’ in confusion. But somehow, he always comes out on top.
So, if ye’re ever in Baldur's Gate and ye hear a trumpet blast in the night, don’t be alarmed. It’s just Trunk Shadowveil, the clumsiest, cleverest rogue ye’ll ever meet, bunglin’ his way through another heist. And that, me friends, is a tale worth drinkin’ to. ------------------------------- Let me know if you want to bid. Current bid is $170

In the world of the immortal, where darkness and the supernatural intertwine with the shadows of the mundane, two ancient species have long harbored a deep-seated animosity toward one another. Vampires, with their predatory grace, and Sirens, ethereal creatures of the sea with voices that could enchant and destroy, were bound by a history stained with blood and treachery. Their animosity was woven into the very fabric of their beings, a loathing that stretched back to the time when the world was young, when both species ruled their respective domains with an iron fist. Yet, in this tale of enmity, there lies the seed of an unexpected bond, a story of two souls who defied the boundaries set by their kind.
The hatred between vampires and sirens was born in the primordial past, a time when their realms occasionally overlapped. Vampires, with their insatiable thirst for blood, often found themselves drawn to the shores, where the songs of the Sirens would lure them. But the Sirens, masters of deception, used their melodies not to enthrall but to lead the vampires to their doom. Many a vampire met their end, lured by the promise of sweet blood, only to be dashed upon the rocks or drowned in the treacherous waters. In retaliation, the vampires waged a silent war, hunting Sirens who dared venture too close to land, their fangs seeking to pierce the throats that sang such deadly songs. Over centuries, this cycle of violence and revenge became a grim tradition, each species teaching the next generation to despise the other with an intensity that only the immortal could sustain.
For vampires, Sirens were creatures of deceit, their beauty masking the malice in their hearts. To them, Sirens were nothing more than wicked seductresses, whose only joy lay in the suffering of others. Conversely, Sirens viewed vampires as predators devoid of honor, bloodthirsty beasts who knew only hunger and destruction. The disdain was mutual, and it ran deep, as both vampires and Sirens prided themselves on their power and immortality. Neither could bear the thought of being outwitted or bested by the other, and so the feud persisted, a war of attrition waged in the shadows and in the depths of the oceans.
Amidst this bitter rivalry, the mortal world continued to spin, blissfully unaware of the ancient conflict that simmered beneath the surface. Cities grew, technology advanced, and the supernatural beings who once ruled the night began to adapt to the new world, hiding their true nature behind human facades. Vampires, with their ability to blend into human society, thrived in the bustling metropolises, while Sirens, whose powers were tied to the sea, became more reclusive, retreating to the depths of the oceans where they could sing their songs undisturbed. Yet, even as the world changed around them, the hatred between the two species remained unyielding, a constant in an ever-shifting reality.
But as with all things, the tides of fate are ever-changing, and it was in this time of uneasy equilibrium that you, a Siren of exceptional beauty and power, found yourself unexpectedly drawn into the orbit of a vampire named Mingi. The circumstances of your first encounter were anything but ordinary, marked by suspicion and hostility, as was expected between your kinds. You were young by the standards of your people, but you had already earned a reputation for your deadly voice and your ability to lure even the most cautious of sailors to their watery graves. Mingi, on the other hand, was an ancient vampire, one who had walked the earth for centuries, his power and influence making him a figure of fear and respect among his kind.
Your paths crossed on a moonlit night, in a city by the sea where the line between the mortal and immortal was blurred by the neon lights and the pulse of music. The city, with its sprawling docks and crowded nightclubs, was a place where humans indulged in their vices, unaware that creatures of myth and legend walked among them. It was here that you had come to escape the suffocating silence of the deep, to taste the chaos of the human world, if only for a night. But even as you reveled in the music and the laughter, you felt the presence of another predator in your midst, a dark shadow that moved with the grace of a panther.
Mingi had been watching you from the moment you stepped into the club, his keen senses alerting him to the fact that you were no ordinary human. He recognized the aura of power that clung to you, the subtle grace with which you moved, and the way your eyes seemed to glow with an otherworldly light. To him, you were a curiosity, a puzzle to be solved, and yet, beneath his curiosity lay the age-old enmity that had been drilled into him from the moment he had been turned. Sirens were not to be trusted, and you, with your beauty and your voice, were a danger that needed to be eliminated.
The tension between you was palpable from the moment your eyes met across the crowded room. There was no need for words; the enmity between your species spoke for itself. You knew what he was, just as he knew what you were, and in that moment, a silent challenge was issued. The air crackled with anticipation as you circled each other, like predators vying for dominance. But this was not the open sea, where your voice could carry him to his doom, nor was it the shadowed alleys where he could strike unseen. This was neutral ground, a place where neither of you held the advantage, and so you were forced into an uneasy truce, if only for the duration of the night.
It was a strange dance, the two of you weaving in and out of the crowd, each keeping the other in sight, yet never getting too close. You could sense the power that radiated from him, the strength that came from centuries of existence, and yet, there was something else, something that piqued your interest despite yourself. He was different from the other vampires you had encountered, those mindless beasts who thought of nothing but their next meal. There was a sharp intelligence in his eyes, a cunning that matched your own, and it was this that made you pause, that made you wonder if there was more to this ancient rivalry than you had been taught.
For his part, Mingi found himself equally intrigued by you. He had seen many Sirens in his long life, had heard their songs and watched as they lured men to their deaths, but you were different. There was a fierceness in you, a fire that burned just beneath the surface, and it drew him in despite the warnings that echoed in his mind. You were a challenge, a mystery wrapped in danger, and he had always been drawn to the thrill of the unknown. And so, instead of making his move, instead of ending the threat you posed, he found himself engaging in this strange game, this dance of predator and prey where neither was quite sure who held the upper hand.
"We meet once again, y/n." Mingi whispered, slowly approaching you.
"Hello, Mingi. Haven't seen you in a while" you said, with anticipation.
Truth is, there was a single moment were the two of you met in the past. It was when one of your siren friends was being chased down by some vampires, and Mingi stepped in to stop them. Why? It's been dozens of years and you still don't know the answer.
"How have you been... in the past few..50 years?" the vampire said.
"It doesn't concern you, sweetie. What are you doing here?" you said, confidently.
"Ah, I understand. Still feisty, huh? Well, I was just.. out, for a drink, nothing much."
He continues,"Y/n,I'll keep it short. This is basically my club. I've been coming here for the past 500 something years. If you come back here unnannounced, I'll kill you"
"I don't mind, Mingi. Try all you want. You better do it soon cause that's the only way you'll make me stop coming here." you said, smirking.
"Is that right? What if I kill you right now, hm?"
"You won't. You didn't back then, so what will make your words believable?" you scoffed.
"We'll see, sweetheart." Mingi said and pushed you to the wall, hands over your head, a knife to your throat.
"Now... what should I do with you? You've got quite a mouth, you're basically begging me to put you in your place."
"You fantasise about that image a lot? You seem quite...excited about it." you said looking down to your feet, something catching your sight. A slight bulge could be seen from his thight leather pants.
"Wha- god no, don't flatter yourself. Stop glaring." he said, a bit of harshness in his voice.
"Then what does this mean?" you said and moved your knee up to his crotch, getting a low grunt out of his chest.
"You know what..." he said and closed the distance between the two of you. "Kiss me."
"You have a fucking dagger to my throat, Mingi."
"So? You look angry. How about... you take all of that energy and put it to some good use? Like.. getting on your knees for me right in this instant?" the vampire said, smirking. His dagger still at your throat, but he soon retracted it for a moment.
You continued, smiling sheepishly, "And what's in it for me?"
"Awh, don't look at me like that, sweetheart. You're lucky you're hot, otherwise you'd be 6ft underground right now. After all, you're a siren."
"You think I'm hot?" you smirked, teasingly.
"No, that's not what I-"
You interrupted him, "Your cock says otherwise." and indeed, his cock was already straining against the thight fabric, screaming to be let out. He was big as fuck, too.
"Oh? You think you're hot stuff, huh?" he said as one of his hands went right for your throat. "I want to wrap both of my hands around your throat, and choke you until the life in your eyes dies down."
A smirk curled on your lips despite the pressure of his hand on your throat. Your voice came out in a husky whisper, laced with defiance and heat. "You think you're the first one to try and break me?" Your eyes locked with his, a challenge sparking in the depths. "Go ahead, Mingi. Try. But you'd better be ready to commit, because I don’t plan on going down easy."
You leaned into his touch, the tension thickening between you like a coiled spring about to snap, daring him, teasing him with a sharp, dark grin. "And don't forget," you added, your voice low, laced with seduction and venom, "I bite back."
"I bet" Mingi said and leaned in for a kiss, his tongue interlocking with yours. His hands were roaming freely on your body, from your back to your waist and to your ass, slightly squeezing it.
"You know.. I hate you so, so much, y/n" he whispered, breaking the kiss for a moment.
"And why is that?"
"Back then when I didn't kill you and your little friend, I was so mesmerised by your beauty. I thought you'd be a good round, maybe more.." he giggled. "And I hate it so much... how good you taste" his hand went to the back of your neck.
He continued, "Look at me."
"No."
"Look. at. me"
"Why?"
"Do as I say"
"And why should I?" you said, smiling sheepishly at him, with an almost innocent look.
"You little slut-" the vampire said as he manhandled you in his grip, one hand under your ass and one on your back. He went in for another kiss while he was walking up the stairs, then dropped you somewhere, on a bed.
"See.. this room is mine, y/n. Mine to use freely."
"Ah, I see. Should I care?"
"I can see that you are fucking bratty. Aren't you afraid of what I could do to you if you go againt me, mm?" he scoffed, climbing on the bed and pinning you down.
"Not. at. all."
"We'll see"
As soon as he finished his words, he got off the bed and opened a drawer. He took out some cuffs and threw them on the bed, rapidly followed by him climbing on the bed again. He then pushed you to the headboard, tying your hands behind your back.
"Oh, so this is how we're playing, huh?" you scoffed. "Don't be fooled, I like this shit."
"Y/n. babe. You didn't even have a choice. but I'm glad you like it. Now..." he dragged you closer. "What should I do with you? I think I'll leave your clothes halfway on... you look so hot in this corset, god dammit." he whispered as his hands went to your skirt, forcefully taking it off. You were left in only your panties, soaked with your arousal. "Oh wow, all wet for me?" the vampire scoffed. He looked at you for a moment and decided to unbuckle his leather pants, not breaking eye contact with you.
"Damn.." you whispered among seeing his cock spring out of his briefs, it's huge length and girth taking you aback. You knew that was gonna hurt as hell.
"What? Like what you see?" he giggled. "Come here."
"Hm?"
"I told you to come here" and he didn't even finish talking that he grabbed you by your waist, bringing you closer. You were now sitting on your knees on the bed, eyes looking up at Mingi, him standing straight on the carpet, right near the bed frame. Your cunt was rubbing against the now-wet fabric under you, the linen soaked in your juices.
Mingi's right hand went for your chin, stroking your cheek softly, his left hand pumping his aching length lazily. "You see my cock?" he said and guided the tip to your lips. "You're gonna take it all up your throat" his pointing finger under your chin, poking you to open your mouth. You took his dick in your mouth, trying to adjust to the girth. It was really stretching your mouth out, the corners of your lips aching and tears swelling in your eyes.
"Mhm, just like this." One of his hands went to the back of your head, tangling in your hair. "Though.. it's not enough" and he thrusted himself in your throat, your nose hitting his pelvis. You gagged on his dick, but he didn't move. He stayed like that for a moment, letting your throat get adjusted to his size. In the meantime, you wanted to touch yourself so bad, but your hands were tied at your back so you were left with grinding against the linen.
"You feel so good, sweetie. Let's see, how much can you take, hm?" the vampire whispered, pleased by your performance. He then started mouth-fucking you. He went on for a couple of thrusts, stopping for a moment, as deep as possible deep down your throat.
"Look at this..." Mingi said and touched your neck, feeling a small lump. "See how good you are to me, hm? I can even feel my cock deep down your throat from the outside. Such a good girl.." he leaned in and pulled your hair to make you look up at him in the eyes. His cock dropped heavily from your mouth, precum dripping continuously from the red throbbing tip. "Look at me" your head dizzy and spinning, your eyes went up to his.
"W-what?" you murmured.
"What do you want from me, sweetheart? Tell me. I can fulfill any of your desires" the vampire said, eyes glistening red with lust. "Tell me."
"I w-want you to fuck me" you said.
"Hm? Say it again."
"I want you to fuck me!" you scoffed angrily, catching a glimpse of his smirk as soon as you finished your words.
"Good girl. Turn around, ass up"
"I hate you so much, Mingi"
"I love you too, y/n. Turn the fuck around" the vampire said and manhandled you on your belly, untying the cuffs and throwing them on the floor. He took a moment to look at the exposing position you were in, your breasts slowly falling out of the corset, your ass red from all his fondling until now. He slapped your ass once, getting a soft moan out of your slowly rising chest. He spread out your cheeks, one of his hands fondling with the rim. He prepped you for a moment then pulled you closer, his aching tip throbbing against your hole. Without warning he pushed himself in, bottoming down. You let out a loud moan, feeling your hole being stretched out. It hurt so bad, yet it was so pleasurable. Tears formed in your eyes once again, gripping the sheets around you.
"Once again, babe.. take it all up" he said and started fucking you rapidly, holding onto your ass and back for dear life.
"You feel-" he bottomed down completely once more. "So fucking good". He was becoming louder and louder, sometimes letting out soft curses and whines. He was getting closer, you thought. His thursts became sloppied and heavier, filling you up good.
"Ng-baby. I'm so close" he gripped your back tighter, deepening himself. One of his hands went for your neck, holding it from under your body, his plump lips leaving soft kisses on your spine and back. He thrusted a few more times before you felt heavy strings of silky cum filling you all up. He fucked you through his orgasm, sending you over the edge.
"Oh-my god" you shouted and gripped the sheets once again, feeling the knot in your belly getting thighter and thigther.
"What, y/n? say it. Use your words" he said, panting.
"I wann-na c-cum" you whispered.
"You want me to make you finish, sweetie?"
"Yes fuck please, Mingi!" your voice coarse and your breath hitching. He started rapidly pounding you, his hands all over your body. He picked you up, his chest close to your arched back, he was kneeling on the bed. His left hand on your belly, holding you close and his right hand on your neck, his thumb rubbing your lips. You took his finger in your mouth, sucking on it slowly, with every of his thrusts. He fucked you for a couple more times and you felt your high washing over you.
"I'm not done with you" he said and fucked you through your orgasm, himself being close again. He once again came in you, filling you up.
He stopped for a moment and stayed like that, hugging you from the back, you cockwarming him, your juices slowly seeping out of your hole right on his dick. He took his time to put you down slowly, to which he then laid next to you.
"I never thought I'd fuck my mortal enemy, y/n." he said, looking at you.
"Me neither. I hate you so much, man. I could kill you right now and no one would ever notice." you said, cocky.
"Still bratty? After I fucked you dumb? Want me to go for a 3rd round?" he said and pinned over you.
"Bet." you copied his words and taking that as a yes he leaned in for a kiss, letting you know he wasn't even close to being done with you for the night.

I was skimming through the reylo tags this morning and saddened to see some anti reylo jargon still floating around out there. It’s hard for me to imagine that 6 years after reylo was officially made canon, it’s still somewhat controversial within the Star Wars’ landscape. Apart of me feels like it’s John Boyega’s recent comments during a fan panel, and he’s certainly entitled to his opinion, but he does not represent my own. Let me briefly explain why.
I understand it’s easy to look at reylo through a modern lens, and come to the conclusion that it’s toxic- “why would you want to support a relationship where the two leads are fighting each other?” But Star Wars has always existed more in the realm of fantasy and fairytales. George Lucas has even referred to it as a “modern fairy tale”-
“I was afraid that science-fiction buffs and everybody would say things like, ‘You know there’s no sound in outer space." I just wanted to forget science. That would take care of itself. Stanley Kubrick made the ultimate science-fiction movie and it is going to be very hard for somebody to come along and make a better movie, as far as I'm concerned. I didn't want to make a 2001, I wanted to make a space fantasy that was more in the genre of Edgar Rice Burroughs; that whole other end of space fantasy that was there before science took it over in the Fifties. Once the atomic bomb came, everybody got into monsters and science and what would happen with this and what would happen with that. I think speculative fiction is very valid but they forgot the fairy tales and the dragons and Tolkien and all the real heroes.”
When you analyze fairytales, they’re often allegorical and symbolic in nature. Beauty and the Beast for instance was symbolic about looking past what we see, and trying to understand and empathize with the person underneath. Belle doesn’t fall for the Beast initially, and for good reason. In fact, she tries to flee the castle early on, and only stays to mend his wounds when he saves her from a pack of wolves. You could certainly analyze this through a modern lens, and say what we’ve all heard before- that Belle eventually develops Stockholm syndrome, etc. However, I think applying these types of modern terms to fairytales, that exist mostly outside time itself, waters down their intended meaning. Belle does choose to stay with the Beast, but she holds her own. In return, mutual trust and respect is eventually established between them, and that creates a foundation for something more.
Returning back to Star Wars, we see symbolism plays a very important role throughout the series, including the OT and PT. Luke is introduced as a farm boy who initially holds his father in high esteem. When it’s revealed his father is actually Darth Vader, his worst enemy, it shatters him. But by choosing forgiveness over revenge, Luke finally sparks enough good in Vader for Anakin to fulfill the original prophecy. Many could look at this through a modern lens, and wonder why Luke should ever forgive his abusive and traitorous father? Why didn’t he just kill both Vader and Palpatine right then? Didn’t they deserve it? But what Star Wars does so brilliantly is Luke won by ultimately choosing not to fight. His anger and rage started controlling him, so he decided to forgive his father, because he was in serious danger of becoming him. It becomes the overall moral of the story. So, you might be wondering, what does all this have to do with reylo, and the love story of the ST?
Much like how Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker are established as separate entities, Kylo Ren and Ben Solo are established as separate. In the ObiWan series, we see Anakin refer to himself in the third person as someone who’s gone-
ObiWan: Anakin?
Anakin: Anakin’s gone. I am what remains.
ObiWan: I’m sorry… I’m sorry Anakin for all of it.
Anakin: I am not your failure ObiWan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker… I did.
Likewise, in The Force Awakens, we see Kylo Ren refer to Ben Solo in the same manner-
Han: Take off that mask. You don't need it.
Kylo Ren: What do you think you'll see if I do?
Han: The face of my son.
Kylo Ren: Your son is gone. He was weak and foolish, like his father. So I destroyed him.
Neither ObiWan or Han are successful, but both times it’s established that these people are lost in their own darkness, and have now become something else entirely. When Rey first meets Kylo Ren, he’s on the cusp of fully embracing the dark, but something is holding him back. He attempts to snuff out the light by killing his father, which is the exact opposite of Luke’s choice in Return of the Jedi. Han’s death only weakens him emotionally, and he’s further established as an irredeemable villain in Rey’s eyes. When they meet again in The Last Jedi, her first reaction is to shoot at him. She remains hateful and guarded, until she starts seeing cracks in his facade. This mirrors Belle’s trajectory in Beauty and the Beast, where she held her own until she saw a real person underneath. Both characters attempted to understand their counterparts, and in doing so, start to empathize with them. Rey attempts to save Ben Solo from his worst self- Kylo Ren. She doesn’t fall in love with Kylo Ren. The same could be said for Luke, but in different terms. He tried to save his father from his worst self, so he could return as Anakin Skywalker.
It’s also important to note that these stories take place during an ongoing war, with many people attempting to reason with friends, family or loved ones who are on opposite sides. There will inevitably be fighting between multiple characters, but the overall theme is that hatred tended to lead towards the dark, whereas compassion led towards the light. ObiWan loved Anakin like a brother, but nearly killed him when he got out of control on Mustafar. This eventually led to the creation of Darth Vader. Meanwhile, Luke hated his father, but still decided to forgive him, despite the threat of death. This resulted in the return of Anakin Skywalker. Rey initially hated Kylo Ren, and for good reason, but recognized there was someone else underneath. It was her compassion, empathy, and love that ultimately led to the return of Ben Solo. This is the primary moral of the story, and has been since the very beginning. It’s ultimately why Rose Tico says very plainly to Finn, but also the audience- “That's how we're gonna win. Not by fighting what we hate. But saving what we love.”

Dronia Fairbourne - dhampir ranger
Dronia was first conceived in a D&D 4E game as a spell-scarred dhampir who was trained as a cleric of Kelemvor who hunted down vampires in her god's name as an act of revenge. As she evolved over different campaigns, she eventually ended up a human beast master ranger (a spider hunter and guide who navigated the Spiderhaunt Wood often) from the Dalelands who eventually was turned into a dhampir on accident 2 weeks before she was to be wed, her fiance had been the target of the attack. She was supposed to die. Now she has to live with her new thirst as she seeks revenge on the master vampire who slayed her entire village and her love while trying not to become a monster herself. One day I will give her a world all her own and write her story proper. It's a tale of grief and how it changes a person.

more vladcard hcs please? 🥺👉👈 perhaps about him being a parent/ what kind of father he would be?
f! Reader, no warnings quickly drabbled @ 2am don't expect a masterpiece haha
Due to his own troubled childhood he thought it'd be for the best to never have children of his own.
It's not that he isn't fond of the concept - especially if it's with you - but he doesn't see himself fit due to his unresolved trauma.
Also, they would be walking targets for enemies seeking revenge, and even if they did survive to adulthood they'd be burdened with his legacy.
Vlad sees you as 'part of his heart walking outside of his body', and his constant worry is already tearing him apart. He just cannot imagine how much worse it would be if you were carrying his heir, let alone putting another child at risk to suffer in this cruel world.
So no matter how attached you are to the idea, no matter how long you're trying to convince him, he firmly believes he's better off caring for no one (except you of course).
Maybe an accident would have you with child after all, especially during that time pregnancy would happen eventually. Or it'd be something more tragic, like a maid of yours passing during childbirth and you insisting on raising it as your own.
His base conviction stays the same, but he just can't deny you this heartfelt with so he tries to brace himself for the inevitable.
Arranges everything you and the child would need to live comfortably, but will most likely insist to have you stay far away incognito until the child is old enough to defend themselves.
He will definetly cry as soon as he sets eyes upon this innocent, frail little creature, being overwhelmed by memories of his past together with so many emotions at once: Astonishment, panic, sadness and happiness at the same time, instant protectiveness and an all-consuming, unconditional love.
At first he'd refuse to even do so much as holding it, feeling like his blood-stained hands were unworthy of touching such a precious thing. It'll take him weeks and lots of your encouragement to adjust to the new situation, but deep down he is aching to engage with his offspring.
He will lull it to sleep with that baritone voice of his, singing and telling tales all while cradling it gently against his chest.
Definetly shaves his beard during the first weeks because he fears it'd break the delicate skin of the newborn. Sorry.
It's almost poetic how those hands that only ever inflicted violence and death were now eagerly crafting toys, meant to bring joy instead of misery.
You and his subordinates would notice him tend to orphans on the streets as of late - something he usually never even considered, as he was too blinded by the focus on his greater course.
Spending time with his child brings forth a whole new side of himself, one he wasn't even able to show you before. This literal war-machine, this pensive and stern beast of a man would be carefree for what felt like the first time in his cursed life, his laughter filling the room as he carries his child on his shoulders and having it play with his hair.
This turn of events wouldn't completely shift his perspective on God, but he couldn't deny that the existence of your child was a miracle and blessing in itself.

❤️🩹 something hornsent related pls! :D (the character or the culture as a whole sgsjdjdk)
I'll do both XD
For character:
In full seriousness, I DO like that he is a negative turn on the victim of something horrible. I felt very invested and compassionate towards him from basically the first interaction! His trust issues are very understandable, but he goes further. He is obsessed with revenge, but not for the pragmatism sake (as in "killing Messmer so the war can stop and my culture can heal and raise back from the ruins"). No, his obsession is to inflict the same pain he experienced, the same damage his nation experienced, and so the quest realistically never ends and killing Messmer doesn't heal him.
He is understandable, realistic, sympathetic character. Him reacting in such a negative, unproductive way shows the lasting results of atrocities committed by others. The way Hornsent goes about it is a cautionary tale. Not the generic "revenge bad" lecture I am tired of, but a notice on not loosing the true purpose of (fully justified) vengeance: to stop the vicious cycle. With all due respect to Messmer's tragedy and my liking of him, objectively he deserves only death but for the sake of ending the Crusade, not for the sake of payback. And it is so interesting and so mature to show a character that would not understand all this. He is literally just a person acting out of pain for his family and friends: exactly what you'd expect! And him being literally just a person caught in genocide's way and surviving is what I like.
For culture:
I've mentioned it before, but I fucking LOVE the Divine Beasts and crucible affiliation thing going on with them!
The lion dancers channel storm, blizzard or wind! And then there are the Divine Beast Knights who only can use one of these powers!
youtube
I think this is just so fucking cool and smart for some reason fdfdhds Their relationship with the spirit world is truly unique, there are so many interesting instances of this, but this one stuck with me the most. When I met these guys one by one in Enir Ellim I was so pleasantly surprised XD

It's safe to say there is a lot of comparisons to Cinderella, I mean it's brought up in the series too. However I think it's fun to also compare it to other fairy tales too.
Rozemyne is obviously Cinderella but she can also be compared to Sleeping Beauty and Snow White/Snow Drop, as both are forced into a forced into a magical sleep and also take on a new identity to survive. Cinderella obviously works best, but there's already a tonne of literary analysis of that in the fandom.
Ferdinand, among being another Cinderella, is the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. A cold-hearted monster who learns to love and be loved in return. He hides vulnerability behind a stern exterior created from past trauma.
Sylvester is, in a way is a benevolent version of Rumplestiltskin. He helps and aides Rozemyne keeping her safe but also is the cause of her being separated from her family. He is mischievous, with a tendency to make deals with hidden benefits. However, he uses that to ensure his family and domain prosper rather than seeking revenge or personal gain
But Sylvester is also like King Thrushbeard as many assume he is careless, but he is actually a brilliant leader, who also disguised himself as a beggar or in this case a preist to test a the honesty and character of a young lady.
Lutz is the Shoemakers apprentice. A poor boy who works hard to learn a trade. In this way, Lutz is also Aladdin as they both start off as a commoner but gains status through resourcefulness.
We all know Veronica is the evil step mother trope known in many fairytales most commonly Cinderella, and Snow White/Snow Drop as she sees she sees Rozemyne, Ferdinand and even Florencias children (minus Wilfried) as threats to her influence.
Georgine mirrors that of the Evil Sorceress trope, unlike Veronica, who rules through intimidation and violence, Georgine is a master manipulator who uses knowledge and power to control others and seek revenge like for example the enchantress in Rapunzel.
Frieda is a cross of both the millers daughter from Rumplestiltskin and Rumplestiltskin himself. Both are in a difficult situation and must use cleverness and external help to survive. She offers deals that seem helpful but serve her interests first as she understands the power of hidden knowledge and navigating business strategies and uses them to her advantage.
Initially I was going to compare Hannelore to Mulan, a warrior who goes to battle but after much thought I figured that the two are opposites, as hannelore is more willing to follow the path set for her rather than fight against it, and is always out of place among Dunklefelgers warrior ways. In retrospect, she is a trapped princess like Rapunzel. Hannelore isn’t physically trapped like Rapunzel, but she is emotionally and socially constrained by her status and longs for connection outside of her duchy. She sees Wilfried as her prince, a way to escape Dunklefelger but untimately blind and never sees him.
Damuel is a knight in shining armour. Someone who will protect rozemyne even at the expense of personal sacrifice, in this way he is similar to the huntsman from snow white or Percival from Arthurian legends especially since Percival and Damuel are both naive at the start, lacking the experience or wisdom with the complexities of court life and chivalric duties.
I wanted to compare someone to Little Red Riding hood as it is a classic fairytale, the innocent child unaware of the danger that surrounds them. A story about maturing and self discovery while facing the hidden threats, who better to compare that to than Wilfried. The Wolf in his tale is the Veronica faction, who manipulate him while dressed in a friendly face.
Another famous fairytale is Hansel and Gretel, if you wish to focus on the two children in the woods it would be best to compare them to Lutz and Myne who at the beginning of their journey start in the woods. Despite the obstacles Lutz and Myne face the world together, their bond unshakable. The candy house in this case would be the church's book room and Bezewanst the witch. While this comparison does not affect Lutz, it does entice Myne leading to her being caged. Her breadcrumb trail is Lutz, a last hope to lead her back to her family, but even though the birds eat the trail and Lutz could no longer send messages, she still made it home to her family in the end.
#ascendance of a bookworm#honzuki no gekokujou#spoilers#now who is the little match girl#who is the little mermaid#who is the toy soldier and many other fairytales?

thinking about king lindworm again from the perspective of the lindworm. to be born something different from your family, to know it deeply, innately; to be cast out or hidden away from the people you were meant to know because of it, because of the shame that you were born something monstrous, a blame that will rest on your shoulders; to demand what you would have been given if you were like them and to have your efforts fail because you are monstrous; having to make yourself vulnerable - equally vulnerable, from an outside perspective, but to open yourself to such great potential for harm, being more fragile than others because of how much it takes to reach vulnerability of the same intimacy - to be seen as something worth loving. the lindworm desires his birthright as the eldest prince, not as a monster; him being the eldest prince does not keep others from only seeing him as something inhuman, something cruel and terrifying.
and I do think in the lindworm tale that there is an expression of this kind of violent grief of self acceptance, a literal shedding of the protective layers of the self until you are presenting your innermost being, raw and bloody, and saying, this is what I have to protect. this is what others do not believe i am. many versions have the shedding and subsequent night with his wife as being painful and visceral; shedding skins too deep, lashed with cloth and the wounds cleaned with milk before they can be held gently. the lindworm rarely expresses a desire to remain vulnerable, wanting instead to keep his shed skin, to return to it when the night is over and they are no longer alone. to be loved as he is in the daylight requires a sacrifice of dignity that he has never been granted the safety, the luxury of; the love does not come for the public self without exposing the private self, and that is something he has been kept from expressing because he is a monster, forced into isolation where none who see him are willing to meet on that intimate and vulnerable ground, because he is not human like they are, does not look human like they do.
with the lindworm specifically, as the story goes, this exposure is a mutual vulnerability. the maiden on her wedding night, instructed to wear extra clothing to coax the lindworm into shed, is baring herself as well, to the extent she would a human lover; there is an angle to be taken here, with her extra layers being an order from others, that these are layers of reservation that have been taught, and in shedding them she is opening her own self to the lindworm rather than believing those teachings, rather than believing the lindworm is a dangerous monster. there is also the angle that this is a risk she would choose to take with others like her, that the lindworm is specific in being something she is requested to be vulnerable with, that the action would not occur otherwise. is there pity in this love? maybe. I think there has to be, somewhere, that or sorrow, a quiet mourning for how much had to be hurt to reach this, how much had to be lost.
king lindworm is not beauty and the beast, where the monster was a human cursed to a different form. the lindworm was born a lindworm, and has never known anything else; when he returns for his birthright as thd eldest son, the privilege of being we'd is given to him, though the human brides he takes see only a monster. I do not think the lindworm is a tale meant to empower the maiden: it is not a story about revenge, or about the cruelty of kings, or about justice. in king lindworm, two people are vulnerable with each other. the maiden does not re-dress herself in false layers; the lindworm does not desire being human, only to be king - as he is, as he has always been, in isolation or in exile for being born the way he was. i think the lindworm is grieving himself.
#not art#but kind of#lindwormposting#i feel like i say the same things about the lindworm pretty often but i think them pretty often soooo#its my house and im going to talk about the lindworm in it

"He just HAD to be there for the love of his family"
I'm sorry but I don't think that's what Sam meant here. He says he makes the monstrous choice to be there and participate and witness his fledgings die. And the humanity comes out when he sees Louis and the negotiations with armand then fall apart and he makes the decision to save louis and starts improvising. Meaning he wasn't there to save them in the first place. Sam said he had the original trial script and what that probably means is the script where Lestat does not deviate and does not interfere at all, aka the original plan of the coven and armand.
I wish I'm wrong about this I really do but at this point I feel it's so obvious where they're going with Lestat and how they mean to portray him that it feels we're all gaslighting ourselves kind of hoping for the book traits of lestat (his light, playfulness, the ability to selflessly love others etc) to take over when rolin has shown zero interest in any of that.
Let's go to what Sam actually says there:
"if you start looking at these like older kind of beasts um they they've got more there's a level of intensity and kind of like necessity that drives them forward through their relationship ships it's like I have to if my if my children are dying I have to be there you know and so I think I think that's the kind of like I was like okay and that's something I worked out with Emma Freeman because I was a bit like why the hell is he there why did he go like why [] has he gone there well I think you kind of have to go because the love for these characters is so deep so if they're going to die he's going to be there if they're going to be killed he's going to be there and I think that is a hard thing for a human mind and that's where we have to go as a vamp is a monster choice."
He had to go because the love for these characters is so deep.
Sam has said that before, in interviews, this is nothing new btw.
And when Sam says he has the "original script" it does not mean Lestat's script, nonny, because he then talks about hints, and what he brings into the performance, and the editing... meaning he talks about the reveals that will come up and that they built in.
Look, you're not completely wrong, but that is the setup they chose for season TWO, within the tale, that he supposedly was there for "revenge", and, I mean, the "negotiations" exist in both book and movie scripts, too.
I have said before, that I do see this Lestat as a different Lestat, just as Sam does. I am not gaslighting myself as to what he is, that is very clear in the turning of Claudia and other choices already, I talked about that, at length.
But fact is also, that we have not seen certain aspects of him that they DID build in already, and that were deliberately hidden in the tale. So far.
