Beach Stone-curlew by Adam Blyth Beach Stone-curlew Esacus magnirostris September 28th, 2019 East Point, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Canon EF 600mm f4L IS II USM lens Canon EF 1.4x III Extender A bird I have wanted to photograph for years - the ridiculous Beach Stone-curlew! I was optimistic we would come across them on our trip to Darwin, but they proved to be quite a challenge to locate or get near enough for nice images. On the very last morning of our trip, we headed to East Point looking for Doves & Scrubfowl to photograph. As the sun began to get higher in the sky, I wandered down to a rocky section of coastline where I spotted this beauty on the rocks. I'd read that these birds could be somewhat inquisitive, but I was not prepared for how curios this particular bird was! As soon as I saw it on the rocky shoreline, I crouched down trying to find a spot to lay flat. As soon as I was at eye level with this bird, it immediately came right up to me - so close that it was within the minimum focal length of my gear. Thankfully I managed a decent portrait before it got too close! A brilliant way to end a very memorable trip up North. https://flic.kr/p/2hPuUVg
