i feel like smf is more restrictive than swf. mnet is choosing which songs they’ll perform to for each mission in smf… which made sense for the first mission (dancers were split into respective classes for a performance vid). but for the mega crew, they had to incorporate one of mnet’s song into their performance. just jerk did a really good job making it work but if u watch the other crews, it felt v awkward (e.g. we dem boyz mega crew). for the next episode, mnet invited female dancers where they will choose which smf crew to perform with. and they most likely will dance to a song of mnet’s producing…. at least in swf, the crews got to select their songs and outfits that fit their performance theme.
granted i don’t know much about dance competitions but i feel like this limits the crew’s potential to show their creativity/identity. these missions in smf are boring and frustrating… started watching just jerk’s videos after their appearance on smf, and they are soooooo good. but i don’t feel like they have really gotten the chance to do anything (outside of the mega crew performance) on this show. another rant about mnet 🥲 what’s new. but also there’s a korean b-boy show called SHOWDOWN, and omg it’s just so much better than whatever mnet is trying to do with dance. the missions are fun and it’s nice to learn more about the genre.
hmmmm i've kind of been sensing that from the few things i've seen so far. i haven't seen all of the mega crew missions yet, just just jerk's and whoever did the cowboy one with sehun (1million? i don't remember i wasn't paying attention). i am a bit surprised at the whole forcing them to integrate a song thing, that's a bit overbearing and unnecessary, and i agree it does somewhat limit the creativity of the crews. i mean, none of this is representative of actual competitions at all, but in terms of other competition shows, usually there's a team of show stylists from the producers that pull ideas and talk with the dancers in terms of what works for the performance etc etc.
omg no way that's cool!! i'll have to look for it, who's producing it??
