I genuinely think people have been socialized to forget about friends. Friends who are super close are not inherently basically siblings OR basically dating. Friends can BE that close.

The idea that "closer than friends" exists just leads people to go "Will and Mike are closer than friends, so they can only be either in love or have a sibling relationship".

We agree though. They're "more than friends". But they don't have to be brothers just because you don't think they're in love. Regular friendship exists and it isn't just a stepping stone to found-siblinghood or romance.

It only seems contradictory to romance because in your mind "super close" means either the wants to date category or never will date ever category.

And also we know it isn't the second one because either of these categories have to be mutual. If Will doesn't see Mike as a brother then their relationship isn't brotherly.

Anyways reminder that my sister does not look at me like this and neither do my friends. But if you thought of them as siblings, you're not wrong. You probably just mislabeled thinking of them as more than friends because you were taught to. But you can just hold the belief that they're platonic. That's a thing. Thinking about IDW Optimus again and the fandom's aversion to even acknowledging he exists bc he's a cop or whatever and like. Most of the time people literally just replace him in fic with some white bread knockoff archivist/librarian, not even bothering to keep in IDW OP's personality (which just bolsters my theory that the problem isn't him being a cop the problem is that he's too multifaceted but I digress).

And it's annoying because you could totally write IDW Optimus as not a cop while still keeping his canon personality. You just have to realize that the reason IDW OP became a cop in the first place is because his formative experiences when he was young shaped him to basically have two priorities: 1. To help people and 2. To do it by being on the ground actively doing something about the bad things happening to people.

IDW OP would not be a fucking librarian or archivist because even though those are noble pursuits that can help people and change the world, and Optimus is educated/smart enough for the profession, he wouldn't be satisfied just teaching people or spreading information about activism or social-historical studies or whatever. He's a mech of action: he needs to be doing things right now, in front of him, to people he sees/interacts with in his own eyes, improving society with concrete actions rather than indirect action or abstract inspiration.

So basically the alternate job ideas I can think of for IDW Optimus are something like being a firefighter (or any first responder really) or even whatever the equivalent would be to international charity organizations, those ones that send volunteers across the world to do stuff like build housing/infrastructure or distribute food or whatnot. I mean I can't imagine that the equivalents to these things would be exactly the same in IDW Cybertron, so you'd have to get a little creative with it, but these are just some ideas of jobs that would fit IDW Optimus' personality while still filling the niche of "not a cop" for people who are just that opposed to it.

Though I think the revulsion against coptimus is annoying in general tbh because IDW is already a continuity that rejects the idea of easily defined good/evil people or groups. It feels like people really want Optimus to be a good person in a very sanitized and academically approved way, so he has to be nice and squeaky clean but also like, a perfect leftist who knows theory and holds the most progressive opinions on every single issue....

There is no room for the idea that good people join bad institutions, there's no room for the idea that the reason people think cops are good guys who help people is bc of the government propaganda everything is saturated with. Hell there's even later issues of the Optimus Prime series by John Barber where Optimus like, MULTIPLE FUCKING TIMES, is shown in flashbacks grappling with the fact that he as a cop/Zeta's regime that he works for might not actually be improving society like they say they are, and dealing with the fact that he feels more like a lesser evil compared to the Decepticons (perhaps not "lesser" at all).

It's like there's this idea in fandom of like, fictional media and opinions on media having to strictly adhere to progressive ideals at all times. So people just go "cops bad, this character is a cop, therefore they suck" without being willing to engage with the idea of like. IDW OP is born wanting to fight injustice and protect people -> a good way to protect people is to fight the people who are hurting them and committing crimes -> surely following the law is a reliable moral code to guide him in this -> becomes a cop because he's been indoctrinated into a society (much like our own) where he was told that the state/the law exist to protect the people and being a cop means you get to fight bad guys that hurt people. There's really so many interesting concepts there that could be (and CANONICALLY IS) explored about how good, well-intentioned people can be led to harmful actions simply because they have been fed the idea that the things they're doing are good/helpful/noble. Which is especially important for a character like Optimus, I think, who has a cultural icon status as The Irrefutable and Perfect Good, so it's really important actually to use IDW Optimus as an example of how even the most noble people you know have held problematic beliefs or done bad things at some point in their life. You know, because no one is born perfect and ideologically pure, and in fact society is constructed in exactly a manner to make people drink the kool-aid and believe that the systems designed to hurt them/others are just a normal, if flawed, society.

I mean the writing in IDW literally has Optimus deal directly and indirectly with the harm he's done as a cop and how people don't/didn't trust him because of that. I don't know what the fuck else this fandom wants if the source material literally saying "OP realizes that cops suck and he hurt people and earned their disdain by doing the things he did" doesn't stop them from going EW cop bastard sucks and is the worst Optimus. Like the narrative barely stops short of outright saying ACAB and Optimus himself would agree with this sentiment.

At that point, the collective fandom beef with IDW OP isn't because he's a cop and the narrative didn't do enough to condemn that. The problem is literally just that people don't read and don't care

No need to publish but since you mentioned the disturbing amount of likes F stuff gets--I've now seen SO MANY video compilations of him in Louis' tags and the worst part is having been around for years I know that half the pics are either not F or not even Louis 😬 I see no difference between these "fans" and the ones that relate everything to H. It's depressing that his team isn't interested in fostering a fan base outside of the loonies.

It's really disturbing to see the obsession ngl. And it's not only fans. Just a few days ago, i saw a PEOPLE's article about Freddie's recent pic and i'm like wtf? I don't know if they ever wrote ONE article about a louis music release but just randomly writing a whole ass article about a child? It's so so weird. And i hate larries and babygaters for igniting this obsession amongst fans. If babygaters didn't exist, i don't think we would have this amount of posts or even accounts that work as Freddie's ua. In one hand we have the freaks who allow themselves not only to believe but to fucking post their proofs how Freddie isn't Louis' son daily (just imagine someone coming to you and saying you're not your parents' son/ daughter and i won't believe it until i see your birth certificate. Like seriously who tf they think they are). I still don't know what they think they're achieving with that, even if you think he isn't his child, holding that against him and always threatening to boycott his projects if you see the kid (which never works btw 💀) and hating on a kid daily is just disgusting and (bc i know that's what they care about) frankly useless. PS: A lot of the likes for Freddie's posts come from hrries who cling to that (and Louis' Larry denials ) as proof that larry isn't real since their fav didn't really give them a firm denial to shut larries up. I think louis is too talented to have a fandom like this. I always thought that his discography is too good to be included in this circus. Someone like him should've had a carrer trajectory similar to some of the top actors'. Drama free, promote his projects when the time comes, charms everyone with his wit and sense of humor then disappears until the next masterpiece drops. Unfortunately, he was sabotaged for too long and his current team is so useless, non creative and non ambitious it really is depressing. Even the big side projects if you will (afhf, aotv, lfl...) were all louis' ideas and made reality out of sheer will and determination from him. I will never forget in the afhf documentary where HE was the one telling Matt that the festival will happen and the logistics will be figured out and insisting so that the lazy man gets on with it and does his job. Like you're his MANAGER and not only you have zero useful ideas to promote him but also act like you're doing him a huge favor (against your will just so you could shut him up) when he asks you to do something that is in reality your job. His label is also useless (no radio, no playlisting). Hoping LT3 will have a better promo cycle (i'm a clown i know) and some miracle happens so we can get rid of larries, they're so harmful to his career and replace them with new healthy normal fans

Sorry to dump this rant in your inbox but the community’s attitude this entire season has legit got me tilted to the point I ignore pretty much the entire community outside of tumblr and a few irl friends. A lot of it has been frustrations I’ve had since Lightfall dropped wrt acting like the story was dogshit bc it didn’t give all the answers.

I legit got so fed up with Byf’s whole “oh all this season of the deep lore should have been in Lightfall” stuff bc like. My guy. You were one of the biggest complainers about the seasons having zero lore or story relevance. Fucking pick one or the other. Either seasons are all filled bullshit or you’re gonna get cliffhangered and expected to have some damn patience for storylines to get picked back up over time in the seasons after the main campaign of an expansion is done.

Especially bc like. IMO anyone expecting anything not a cliffhanger from the end of Lightfall when we KNEW The Final Shape was coming after it was just setting themselves up for disappointment, you need big tension and shit like that before the final act and this way getting dripfed answers in the lead up feels less like we’re dicking around doing nothing useful for the entire year as we wait for TFS to drop. It legit felt like being a KH fan back when KH3 dropped who had payed attention and played all the games and knew wasn’t the end of the series, just the conclusion of an arc and anyone mad about the stuff left unfinished was being unreasonable when it was made pretty explicitly clear it would either be answered in the future bc this wasn’t the ending or had been answered ages ago and people just hadn’t bothered to pay attention to it. Lightfall was never going to have all the answers bc it wasn’t the ending, and Bungie has proven they’ll circle back around and answer questions and pick up story beats if you’d just have a little patience! I’ll agree it wasn’t done perfectly and could do with more focus on the Veil and less on Strand but come ON my guy!

Combine that with the general toxicity of non-story focused Destiny YouTubers, especially PvP only typesc about Destiny and the way their fans have behaved and I’m full on not watching Destiny content creators anymore. Genuinely never seen content creators who need to touch grass and maybe just. Take a break. I’m not saying Lightfall was perfect or that Bungie hasn’t fucked up but I’m honestly just. Extremely fucking tired of how the community outside of tumblr has reacted to everything. And I’m especially sick of crybaby crucibros being obnoxious. Much as I don’t actually think it’d be at all good for the game there’s a part of me that thinks the idea of them splitting PvP stuff and PvE stuff into separate Destiny games in the future might have some merit to it purely so those of us who just want to explore and enjoy the story in peace can never bother with them again

The Lightfall situation is such a shitshow, not because of Bungie or the expansion itself, but because I genuinely believe that Destiny is above the reading level of most gamers.

Obviously, I still have some issues with how some stuff was handled, just as you do. Literally nobody is saying that everything in Lightfall was perfect. And I extend that to all expansions btw. Every expansion had faults. None of them are perfect. I think Lightfall's mysterious storytelling could've been a little bit clearer. And make no mistake, Lightfall WAS clear that nobody knows about the Veil, it just wasn't as clear as it could've been. Nothing would've really changed about the mystery if this was made more obvious earlier on in the campaign.

But dear lord, the bullshit around it is so tiring. I get it. I was confused at first too. I even posted here that I found certain things not as good and that they made me a little annoyed! And like that's fine! Your first impressions are your first impressions. But please move on. Are you seriously deciding everything based on first impressions? Do you never look into things and see if maybe there were things you missed or were wrong about? Like, it's okay to be confused at first and then realise later that you missed things. That's how learning works.

And yeah, the whole "everything should've been in Lightfall's campaign right away" is not only annoying because of the stuff you said, it's also annoying because it ignores that there's too much content to fit inside of a single campaign and also that this content has a theme. The campaign is a self-contained story with a theme and a plot (and the plot is NOT "learn what the Veil is." The plot of Lightfall is "stop Calus and the Witness from destroying Neomuna" which has concluded perfectly well in the campaign). Post-campaign stuff, the Witness cutscene and the Veil Logs are all things that don't fit thematically with the high action 80s movie story about protecting a city from destruction. These things were deliberately spread out through the year to give us multiple stories to follow while we wait for TFS. It's a live service game. You're here for the whole year. And it's fine if that's not the storytelling type you like. It's fine! That doesn't mean the story is objectively bad.

But yeah, agreed with what you said. It helps to vent! There's definitely people out there who are in the same situation and who just want to enjoy the game as usual and not having to deal with crybabies who make the whole experience absolutely miserable and make it impossible to engage with anything. Luckily, there's also always people who are still engaging with the game normally. We like the game and we like engaging with the game. And when I stop liking it, I'll just stop engaging with it. I wish other people could do the same.

If you want to interact with proshippers more the tags "proshipper", "proshippers pls interact" and "proship positivity" are usually very nice and lots of wonderful people post there!

And you could always make a side account for proship stuff if you want to be able to take a break from the intense pro vs anti stuff if and when it gets too much, whilst still having a place to enjoy that stuff.

Honestly I think a lot of the issue is people seem to take the word "ship" as their ideal relationship. Less so than a dynamic they enjoy in fiction. But I don't know, I can't pretend to understand the mind of antis.

Proshippers and multishippers getting clumped together is probably linked to the idea that a ship is a pairing you want to see canon and shows actually pandering to ship wars lately. Or maybe people are just weird!

Everyone takes shipping way too seriously now and acts like a fictional pairings existence will romanticise the topic and brainwash kids. My general rule is that its for fun, who cares ?

it bothers the hell out of me that some people read fiction and sometimes can also assume that an author is using something from real life ALL the time. this is referring to the white/eurowhite readers when it comes to acotar. the eurowhite readers (which there are alot of ofc) white wash all of the bat boys and lucien vanserra DESPITE knowing that for one, lucien is part black from his father. the second which is my main point with the eurowhite readers in acotar is that because SJM uses the name of a race called “Illyrians” in her books to refer to a race of poc and because “the map looks just like the UK/Europe!” they all ASSUME that because illyria (where balkans are, no longer referred to as illyrians) looks like the Prythians map and because it’s the same name that it means they’re eurowhite characters. There’s been no confirmation of them being europeans but they ASSUME they are when telling other poc readers that “they aren’t Poc” DESPITE SJM referring to them as “golden brown skin” “brown skin” “Light brown skin” multiple times the ENTIRE series. Most arts they’re in they’re brown too! Aside from the ones that whitewash them. Maybe she stole the name (which is like her taking the name of a race and denying they’re that race) BUT STILL she never confirmed they’re european in her fantasy version of illyrians they just assume and use this argument whenever someone says they’re poc. racist asses unable to accept the fact that they’re canonly referred to as BROWN. not WHITE. not PALE. GOLDEN BROWN. does that sound like white to you?

Ok so here's the thing... I'm trying to read more diverse books. Like my white bestie from college wanted me to read acotar and the rest of the series but i honestly just watched a youtuber do a rundown of the first 3 books. and it was fine? so I will say this about sarah j maas: like her books do seem v white to me. BUT I also can't really say anything definitive about her works because I'm experiencing them through a white youtubers lens. so if she didn't pick up on diversity in the books I didn't think of it as diverse. you're welcome to have your opinion though but in general.... don't stan white authors.

i hate myself and i'm so ashamed of myself. i'm turning 23 years old in april but the way i live and act, i'm still practically a child and i'm behind on everything...

i did not start college until 20 years old (2020) but even then, i took a break after the first semester and didn't start again until spring of 2022. and then with the way i've been doing classes, i won't even start the actual major i wanna pursue until fall of THIS YEAR (and that's only IF i get accepted into the program at my commuity college...) and that degree will take two years (or, if i decide to go even further with it after, then four years total...)

i've only ever had two jobs but i didn't stay at them for long, and the second one i quit impulsively without any sort of 2 week notice bc i was practically having a mental breakdown

i've never had sex or a romantic relationship or anything... idek if i want those things or not, i'm really conflicted on that (that's one of the reasons why i've just started calling myself queer instead of trying to label my sexuality), but either way the fact that i'm almost 23 and never tried it is embarrassing... if i don't want it then that makes it worse bc i feel broken, like there's something wrong with me and like i should put in conversion therapy or something... but then, if i do decide that i want/want to try this stuff, who tf is gonna wanna be with someone who should be old enough to have experience but doesn't?? it's really embarrassing... but it doesn't matter tho either way tho bc i'm ugly and not good at socializing...

1 - idk how unpopular this is but - the rpc! is not! what it used to be! like the rpc used to actually FEEL like a community, nowadays things just feel so vastly different. no one comments or interacts with people's ooc & hc posts anymore. crack threads & silly little things are few & far between. people are constantly acting like this is a jobby & not a hobby tbh! i see it all the time! it literally seems like there's no enjoyment in rping anymore & it really seems like no one wants to branch out anymore -

2 - if you're writing an oc - pls at LEAST tell me what they are. like you don't have to have a full bio but at least some basic info? or even for unpopular or unknown canons. ones that aren't easily googleable. like i'm talking even just giving me a name, age & basic personality traits. because if you're throwing a character at me that i don't know at all - i don't know if certain situations or reactions would be appropriate & all. like just pls, give me something to work with at least?

2A - ALSO to add to this, if you have a canon muse that is canon divergent in some way or your own spin or au or you have certain hcs that go against canon ... PLEASE LIST THEM! OR LINK THEM! SOMEWHERE??? bc otherwise i'm just gonna assume canon stuff & throw canon situations at you! & then you'll be frustrated & i'll be frustrated & it'll be a whole mess - like pls just list your stuff somewhere bestie - just listing 'divergent' with no other information tells me nothing ...

3 - if you have faceclaims for your muses, pls list them! somewhere on your blog! idc where, it doesn't even have to be a fancy list - but there's a whole ton of actors & singers & influencers that i don't know, plus i'm just generally face blind - so having to play a guessing game of who this fc is can be very frustrating - like if i wanna make edits or if this fc does something problematic or something i'd like to be able to know who they are -

4 - i do not like teeny tiny icons. i'm sorry - but i don't. i barely like anything smaller than 100x100 but if you're going smaller than 75x75 ... why - i have to be over here like ken jeong in that community gif trying to figure out who tf i'm looking at. especially with the above point if you don't have your fc/fcs listed. like no offense to anyone who does the small icons but pls don't be offended if idk what your muse looks like -

5 - ... this one is gonna get me flamed but ... i don't like first person or second person pov, especially in rp. i don't like second at all & first i really only tolerate with like actual novels/books - i don't even like it in fanfic. & i get why some people might do it, but idk i just don't vibe. it throws me off for some reason. i think they can work with certain characters, but moreso for drabbles & things. it just throws me off to see in actual rp threads tbh ...

6 - this is more so for not just rp but also for fandom spaces but ... IF YOU WANNA WRITE A GENDERBENT CHARACTER OR A IRL PERSON/CELEBRITY ... literally. just. make. an. oc. make an oc sibling. make an oc based off the irl person. make an oc that exists in the universe w very similar traits as the character you wanna genderbend, slap a different last name on them and say they're cousins with similar traits. or something! anything! it's twenty-twenty-fucking-four why are we still writing genderbent characters & rping as irl people. like literally why

also i don’t ship Yūji and Gojō. i wrote one (1) fic about them over a year ago (before i turned 18, so you should’ve told me to be a kid then, just saying *shrugs*) to cope with the intrusive thoughts i was having bc y’know, writing is the healthiest way I know how to cope (I’m sure other people have their own ways to cope)
