Ok so hi lol
Coming atcha today with a post about sOMEONE ELSE
Aka an old flame from over ten years ago who has been on my mind way more lately than he has in years and years.
Y’all don’t have the lore that the followers on my main account have, so basically: we had a thing in 2013 which ended abruptly with him lying and then ghosting me bc he ended up in a relationship with a mutual friend of ours. It devastated me bc he was the first person I had true feelings for and I didn’t even get the chance to fall in love because he dropped me just a couple months in, though the process had already begun.
But I was just thinking about exactly what drew me to him and why I saw him as being so suited for me compared to everyone else I’ve met before and since, like why does it suck SO HARD that he’s out of my life forever. So here’s the comprehensive list:
Objectively hot by my standards (6ft, skinny, long dark hair)
Feminine
Sensitive
Great conversationalist
Had attractive (to me) hobbies like longboarding
Was a skater kid from California like hELLO
Liked the same video games and music as me
Had the same darker interests as me
Had the same desire to travel the world as me
And now I’m taking a long hard look at „feminine“ and „sensitive“. Those traits are hard to find in men but they’re so so important (to me at least). We‘re living in such an unfortunate time (but when were we not ig) where men think they have to be obnoxious and toxic to be appealing to women, and it’s just not true. I‘m pan and attracted to androgyny anyway tho so on top of not wanting a man who could kill me, I just generally am attracted to people of all genders who are androgynous, aesthetically.
But yeah, holy shit dude. When will a combination like that come my way again? Probably never. But, I’ve known that for ten years and made peace with it (til NOW I GUESS). Now I gotta try to find that peace again somehow

This isn‘t directed at you, @saltyyashahimepost, but you touch on something that I feel needs venting on because I‘m a history nerd when it comes to Japan and the entire „lord of the west“ bullshit discourse has gained new wind because of Sunrise (OF COURSE BC OF SUNRISE. I HATE YOU SO MUCH, KINDLY FUCK OFF ALREADY).
I gotta be the party pooper here and point out that Sesshoumaru being „Lord of the West“ has always been fanon at best. Yes, ignoring Yashahime here because it‘s not canon. Additionally, I need to point out again that Rin is a peasant girl. A peasant girl would never have been involved in any such royal shenanigans. ALSO: The Tale of Genji is from the Heian period. The Heian jidai is wildly different to the Muromachi jidai, I bet someone didn‘t think of that, huh? What I‘m saying is: Literally NONE of the comparisons that shippers love to make regarding „that‘s how it was in the past because xyz“ can be applied to Rin. Most of you don’t even know WHICH „back in the day“ you’re wrongly referring to, for crying out loud! It shows a lack of understanding regarding family structures and nobility during bothe the Heian and Muromachi jidai or rather, shows they don’t understand anything about Japanese culture, basically - which is not necessarily because of a person‘s intelligence, but because of their own personal fantasies that fuel what they want to read and will also result in extremely lazy and frustrating cherry picking. I am convinced that many could think critically, if only they wanted to. But if you can‘t even distinguish between two periods in Japanese history that lie centuries apart and operated on completely different power structures, then I‘m afraid there really is hardly any hope left for any poor brain to actually get some action.
Anyhow. IF there is such a title, there need to be other things attached to it, like some sort of societal structure where a title like this even matters (my post on the reveal of Kirinmaru talks about this more). A title needs some sort of reason or order attached to it, some conditions, too. The closest thing we have ever come to anything resembling a yōkai society is Kōga’s pile of wolves OR, if we‘re reaching, Sessmom‘s castle in the sky. Regardless of that: most people portray their lordly Sesshoumaru as a lord that marries Rin or another human of choice simply because he wants to. Boom, end of story. Which is fine, but highly inaccurate if you have previously applied a comparison to the very human and constricting Heian structure (or feudal, just please choose one of the two ffs) that was not nearly as romantic as you think it was. You KNOW this. It just doesn‘t fit what you want. Once again, I ask that people please stop appropriating and abusing Japan‘s culture to make a ship fit their ideals.
Sesshoumaru being a lord is an interesting headcanon, but it‘s important to realize that the world in which he is said lord needs to be built and explained first, because Takahashi didn‘t. So whenever this lordship-thing is brought up, I shake my head, because there‘s a 99% chance that even the people agreeing on this are not, in fact, speaking about the same thing.
Tl;dr: There are many reasons why canon Sesshoumaru „would literally never“ and Sesshoumaru‘s (fanon) position as some sort of lord or other nobility ranks, in my opinion, among the lowest.
Tbh I don't think Sesshoumaru would be a good dad. I never really saw him as a father figure to Rin either. He'd be a decent uncle. He's decent with kids in short bursts imo. Then dumping them back off their parents.
Any headcanon about Sesshoumaru is a legitimate one, that‘s what fandom is for! The way his character was at the end of the series, I‘d definitely agree - he‘d need to warm up to any interaction that he doesn‘t choose of his own free will xD. Kids are good for that, because they just don‘t care haha. I also agree that I never really saw him as a real father figure. He was a person of authority, admired 24/7 and he provided protection and company in return. He does care for Rin by the end though, but his emotional competence makes him a potential older brother/uncle at best. I can get behind the father-daughter interpretation too, of course. The symbolism is there, but Rin deserves better.
This all boils down to the fact that Sesshoumaru needs more character development to have more meaningful relationships in general, to move away from his self-centeredness and towards new acquaintances, ESPECIALLY with people that don‘t unconditionally adore him. Kagura was an excellent first step, Kohaku was a great follow-up on that (the boy is respectful, but nowhere near as fawning as Rin and Jaken) and that‘s sort of... where we left off. Amazing potential for sure!
