mostly i’m just rly confused about the fandom #discourse going on atm (mostly bc i follow rly great ppl and don’t go into the tags much i guess) and this post isn’t even rly about it but i’ve been wanting to make it for ages and i feel like it will be perceived as being part of it or something? probably no one cares but anyway. it isn’t.

i just wanted to say that i started watching the show after it had finished airing, because i had been spoiled wrt the ‘thomas hamilton is alive!! unbury your gays!’ ending.

so like, this had positives and negatives. positives being that i didn’t have to wait on tenterhooks to see if the writers were pulling ‘unbury your gays’ or if they were just that cruel. it also meant i was on the t dot ham train from day one. stanning for my sunshine man before i’d even met him. otp-ing the FUCK out of flinthamilton when all i’d seen was some textposts and some kissing gifs. (they were good kissing gifs). i pretty much spent every single episode being like ‘when is thomas hamilton going to appear? when will they mention him? where is he?!’ like an excitable mum at a school play where her child’s only in one scene.

the downsides were that i didn’t get the satisfaction of all the pieces coming together and that queer narrative arc, or the beautiful surprise (sort of) reunion. I mean, i did get it, but i already knew the basics of what happened, so it wasn’t so amazing or deepy satisfying. i think i was also a bit disappointed by the bittersweetness of the ending (and also the fact that my sunshine sun only made ONE reappearance. i genuinely thought he came back and then was fake-killed off again. i kept expecting to see him in s2 and 3!!!!)

i also didn’t warm to silverflint as much as i could’ve, or think i would’ve had i been watching sans spoilers. i could totally see the appeal, but flinthamilton was my otp. one true pairing. ain’t no other. and i knew they were gonna get that reunion so i didn’t rly get invested in silverflint, which i rly think i would have if i was watching it episode by episode, every week. so that explains my lukewarmness(ha!) to silverflint (and also tbh the reason why i don’t really have any particularly strong feelings about what silver does in the final episode??) . 

of course now, funnily enough, my favourite endgame is silver/flint/thomas. 

so this was a rambly post that didn’t go anywhere. i just wanted to get my opinion out there lol

best quality: I’d say that his idealism. His capacity to pursue what’s right for the sake of being right. His belief that people could be good, that everyone deserved a second chance.

worst quality: I think that as with Miranda, his best quality is also his worst. His idealism sometimes got in the way of seeing the world as it was. Bit almost fatal consequences for him, and pretty bad ones for his loved ones. But then again, one can say that he still knew about the harshness of the world but he still pursued what was right because it was right (A true hufflepuff through and through)

misc. thoughts: I’m kinda pissed he was revived but not because of the reasons you might think so. I’m pissed because I predicted it, but also I didn’t. And by that I mean, I figured out there was room for Thomas to be alive, so I started writing my fic because “wouldn’t it be great to confront Flint to an universe where he has both Silver and Thomas”. And the more I planned how he might have survived the more I saw the clues in cannon. But I was safe, because have you ever heard of “unbury your gays”? Of course, not, it doesn’t exist. But I’m a slow writer, so time passed, my fic wasn’t finished. And s4 happened, and now people are going to believe it’s another thing I’m based on the show. When no, I have been building up Thomas return, leaving subtle clues, subtle comments. Because when the Silverflint in my fic would be at its peak Thomas would appear and my readers would fall on their asses in shock. But now they can totally see that coming (specially if I write about it in my blog shhh). So I’m pissed he’s back bc it took away my big twist.

Okay, no, for real. I’m happy he was giving the chance of my happy ending. Because I either wanted a Silverflint happy ending or a Flinthamilton one, so I’m glad that I have it.

Also Thomas is a cinnamon roll, and a fellow Hufflepuff. And “know no shame”, and fuck.
