just found out a movie adaptation of here is coming soon! i hope it's good, love that comic too
oh cool !! no idea how that would work, since the medium of a comic is so tied to the original work, and i think putting millions of dollars into a movie is kind of,,,, not necessary,,, not everything has to be a movie... but go off i guess
#asks#anonymous#unable to react to movie/tv news without dread sorry#i kind of feel like this would make kind of. a boring movie tbh#or like they'd try to give it a Protagonist or Narration or smth and it's like no#no it's the flattening of time that happens in comics as a medium#it's the flatness with movement#it's the reader interacting with the medium just through reading it in sequence#through acknowledging the gaps and gutters as parts of the story#that's the POINT#movies are a Different Medium#it's why cats the musical didn't work when they movified it#bc they gave it a protagonist and tried to make it like. a Movie#but cats is tied to its genre as a musical. a play. on stage.#the stage is part of it. the audience is part of it. etc#anyway. idk lol

no bc sansa is so annoying especially the show version like so annoying that makes me want to punch her. her fans are so biased because the show version was so far from iconic in comparison to dany arya cersei. the acting mediocre and sophie just gave those secondary character vibes that are shallow and annoying but that they have fans bc people feel insecure about actual powerful characters like arya and dany and olenna asha margaery little lyanna etc. and the show really started to go downhill in s5 when they tried to shove sansa in our faces everywhere and give her importance lmfaoo. plus sophie is such a loser and racist but she really was such a narcissist that she went to therapy just because people aren’t loving her and sansa as much as arya or dany lol. and now is trying to stay relevant by making a movie with kit for the jonsa fans😂😭 both are so annoying and they are friends bc only they can stand each other from the cast istgg
I don't like any version of sansa. But you are right the show version was the worst. They tried to make her centre of everything in the show while sansa is a secondary character at best in the books. They also gave her aryas iconic dialogs which are said by ned only to arya and only ever appear in aryas arc like 'the lone wolf dies but the pack survives' also they stole aryas needle aesthetic and gave it to sansa too. They stole so many things from aryas actual character and made arya a robot.
Arya and Dany are the protagonists and the showrunners wanted that for sansa too much when she is not. Sansa is not even on the same level as arya and dany. And she is not a part of key five characters dany, arya, jon, bran and tyrion.
And don't even get me started on 'jonsa' its a craship for hell and based on complete going against jons character. Of course for these people its about the actors. And didn't turner many times used the 'n' word? She is a proved racist and narcissist. That ship is cancer for me.

Here's the official bio for Queen Genevieve!! I've been watching Quest for Camelot bc this year is the 25th anniversary and it's a guilty pleasure op mine even tho it has a lot of flaws So I had to make an OC XD
Quest for Camelot is owned by Warner Brothers. I only own Genevieve. Made in Doll Divine Princess Maker ver. 1.0. & Barbie movie dress maker
Name: Genevieve of Camelot
Age: 40s
Occupation: Queen
Ethnicity: African British(Celtic?)
Friends: Lady Juliana, Kayley, Garrett, Devon, Merlin
Spouse: King Arthur
Allies: Knights of the Round Table
Enemies: Ruber and his army, Lady Jezebel (OC)
Voice Claim: Angela Bassett
Goals: Retrieving Excalibur (succeeded), avoid a forced marriage to Ruber (succeeded), saving Camelot (succeeded)
Appearance: Genevieve is a beautiful woman with long, dark and curly and dark brown eyes. She also has brown skin. Her regal attire consists of a light yellow dress with red shoulder pads, outer skirt, and gold belt. She wears a simple silver and tiara with a blue gem in the center.
Personality: Genevieve is a wise and goodhearted woman who devotes her time to overseeing the welfare of her kingdom. Like Kayley, she also dreamed of becoming a knight but were forced to set those dreams aside. While she sometimes regrets missing that opportunity, she doesn't regret choosing to be Queen. Genevieve encorages Kayley to pursue her dreams but warns her that the journey towards knighthood is not an easy one. It's implied that she and Lady Juliana were childhood friends.
Abitlities: Genevieve is adaptable, as when she spends her time in the enchanted forest. She also demonstrates her political prowess as when she tries to diffuse Ruber's attempts at invading the sea village, and later convincing the dragon brothers to help her.
The only magical ability Genevieve possesses is a mirror given to her by Merlin. This mirror can reveal a person's "true self", teleportation and some defense against dark magic. While it can deflect physical spells too much force leads to cracks, reducing the effective power of the mirror.
Inspiration: Guinevere (Arthurian Legend), Elinor (Brave), Tzipporah (The Prince of Egypt), Mrs. Brisby (Secret of Nimh), Fiona (Shrek), Asami (Avatar LOK), Snow White (Disney/OUAT), Annika (Barbie Magic of Pegasus)
If Quest for Camelot was about King Arthur it makes sense for Guinevere to exist too! So here's my idea of what she could look like. I think Arthur would want a strong, caring person who is just as devoted to the light as he is. But also because I am sick of media that only depicts Guinevere to serve that stupid love triangle; there's so much more to Arthurian legend and Guinevere than the men she sleeps with. It wasn't even part of the original myths! -_-
Anyways I wanted a story where Guinevere gets to be the hero. As for her role in the movie she visits Juliana and Kayley but their party gets attacked by Ruber. The queen and Kayley escapes and together, along with Garrett, Merlin's falcon and the dragon bros, set off to save the kingdom. She also does battle with an old foe, the bitter Lady Lizabet, who wants to get rid of her and take Arthur as a trophy husband.
As far as design goes I gave her a warm color palette to contrast the blue tunic Arthur wears in the film. Plus the "Primary Color Protagonist" trope.

Movie or tv show where a protagonist (MC), Keeps dodging the love proposal of people by being like "I'm queer" and "I only am really interested in [insert really obscure, hyper specific type of person]" and everyone is like "ohhhh I'm so sorry I totally understand"
But then their friends set them up with someone (LI) who checks all the boxes and the protagonist is like "Oh wow they're perfect!" And then they go on a date and it's perfect and they loved it and they wanna do it again...but they still don't feel those feelings they think they should be feeling, really??
But regardless, they keep hanging out and going on dates I guess
And they eventually do move in together because
1) LIVING ALONE IN THE CITY??? IN THIS ECONOMY???
And
2) They really enjoy each other's company
And then like...the LI tries to make out with the MC or something but the MC is like "Uhh actually I've never really kissed anyone before???" And the LI is like "Oh it's okay. UHHH I can show you?"
And then they do but the MC is just like REALLY bored and not into it. And the LI can tell and the MC is just like "Oh sorry I'm just really tired right now" and then LI is like "oh...that's okay"
And then they go to sleep in their respective rooms
And then MC is just like...fucking hurt that they clearly hurt LI bc they weren't interested in it at all and confused. Because they like cuddling with LI? They like holding hands??? They like going on dates???
They try to initiate it a couple other times (very awkward timing every time) but they don't really feel a spark. Eventually they turn to the internet like
"Why don't I like kissing people?" And the internet is like "Idk dude but it's normal :)" and MC is like "Hmmm okay. "
And they bring this up with their partner and LI is like "Oh...okay. Well we don't have to. Do you want me to stop kissing you???"
And MC is like "Well, it wasn't so bad when you kissed my cheek those couple times??? I'm okay with that??? Just not too much"
And LI says "Okay. I'll keep that in mind"
But then like...MC walks in on LI changing and is like "Ohhhh shit sorry-" and goes to walk out
And LI says "It's totally fine"
And MC is like "Ohhhh okay" and then continues to talk to LI about what they wanted to talk about. And then leaves
And then LI starts actually a little cold for the next couple days and MC is really fucking confused and like "Hey did I do something wrong???"
And LI walks up to them and asks, "...Are you cheating on me?"
And MC, hurt and a little taken aback, quickly shakes their head and wavers their hands "No! Of course not? Why would you think that?"
"I literally gave you a free invitation the other day and you didn't do anything??? I'm fact I've been dropping hints like asking you about certain lingerie and suggesting movies and-"
"Oh! I'm sorry...I didn't realize? I don't really think about doing that stuff with you, I'm sorry. "
Li's face scrunches up and they start to cry a bit "Oh. Are you just...not attracted to me then?"
"That's not true!!! I think you're really pretty and attractive!"
'But are you attracted to me"
"...Is there a difference?"
"Yes. When you see me without clothes, do you feel anything?"
"I feel...what I always feel???"
"...I need some time"
And then LI locks themself in their room
And MC is left CONFUSED
So MC starts trying to figure out wtf is going on and then they come across the word "Asexual" and the MC is like "...huh?" Then the MC reads up on it and they come across the word "Aromantic" and they're like "HUUUUUHHH?!?" And MC finds out there's actually an Aspec group that's meeting to play their favorite version of Dungeons & Dragons, IN THEIR CITY. So they go find that group, who plays at the local library because I like libraries!!!
"Can I join?" MC asks
One of the members speaks up, saying Oh, sorry, this is kind of a closed group"
But the leader is stops the member, "Wait no, you're the one who messaged me, right? Who isn't exactly sure yet?"
"Uhh yeah"
"Join Us! We can talk about it while we play! By the way, are you a fan of cake? [insert player] brought a lot of cupcakes for today. We've got other snacks to though if you're not into sweets."
The MC happily takes some and then they play D&D while talking about what it means to be aspec, differences in orientations and what it can look like for others, how it doesn't mean you're broken, some inside jokes, etc.
By the end, MC is like 99% confident. They thank the group and then they go "Hey btw why is there so much cake and chocolate today? And did you notice that there's so many sales going on today ? Like I got my coffe buy one get one free-"
"Dude it's totally valentined Day-"
"Oh fuck- I got to go."
MC rushes home (really late btw) to talk to LI, who...is waiting in a really interesting outfit with a bunch of makeup and new. Hair and music and candles, everything.
MC sighs heavily saying "We need to talk"
LI's face drops and they burst into tears "I knew it. I knew it. You're not attracted to me. You no longer have feelings for me. I can't bel5 i'm getting broken up with on Valentine's Day of all days"
MC rushes to LI's side and tries to comfort them "No, no. That's not it. I mean...Uhg. No. That's not it. Don't cry. You'll stain your quilt. Let's go into the living room. I brought cake!"
So MC and Li head to the living room, Li has put on a large shirt over themselves at this point because it's actually real fucking cold because the pair lives in fucking canada. Anyways -
"Li, look... I enjoy your company so much. You are so amazing and I want you to be in my life forever. However...you need to know something. It's recent. And it will explain all of my behavior. I need to come clean"
LI is already looking really hurt, bracing for the reveal that MC was cheating the entire time
"I think...I am asexual? And Aromantic? Aroace is what think it was called-"
"...what?"
"It means-"
"Nononono I know what it means. I just...how come I didn't know? Why didn't you tell me?"
"I just didn't know until today, really. I went to a meeting today and after talking to them, I realized."
"...That's why you wanted to stop kissing."
"Yeah"
"AND THAT'S -" LI looks down at themself "Oh my fucking god I'm so sorry!"
"It's okay! It's okay! For the record k think you look beautiful! It just... doesn't do anything for me"
"Oh my god...."
"...Does this mean you want to move out now?"
"Are you fucking crazy? Of course not. You're the only person I've ever actually ENJOYED living with. I'm relieved, honestly. I thought something was wrong with me"
"No, you're perfect. Its just...me"
"Phew. Okay. I'm so happy for you!!!!"
The two of them hug
MC pulls back and looks at Li "...Can we still cuddle?"
"Yeah, of course, if you're comfortable with it"
"I'm comfortable with our relationship how it is. I just...not that stuff."
"Then, yeah okay. We can still cuddle. After j get some real clothes on though. I'm wearing candy underwear and it's... fucking awful. Who thought these were a good idea???"
And then they eat cake and cuddle on the couch while watching their favorite movie
LI yawns, looks at MC and says "Hmm...You know? I think I might be asexual too" before falling asleep. MC looks at them shocked, goes "Huh."
Then the movie ends.
#AND Li is definitely asexual too but is so used to having sex to make others happy and feel good about themself that they never really-#considered if they were actually into it or even found anyone particularly attractive in that way.#they've never known a relationship where they didn't have sex and that should be covered in the movie somehow i think#also I thought one of them should be a sex worker but I feel like that could also cause issues idk. but it would ALSO#add layers.#LONNNGG POST#long post#EXTRA LONG POST#Idea I had idk

Also thinking back to other Takahashi series with villain/hero pairings, guess I'll start with Urusei Yatsura, since you wanted to hear that.
This one is kinda hard as due to being very much a comedy, most of the male characters are depicted as huge losers, even the protagonist Ataru is a loser, even compared to Takahashi's other comedies & rarely get romance. That said Ryoko Mendo, is a sadistic and manipulative rich teenage girl that antagonizes the cast & claims to have feelings for certain male characters.
This is usually Tobimaro, her brother's incompetent childhood rival that can't do anything right & is rightfully terrified of her for always torturing him in bizarre/elaborate ways.
Everyone always takes her seriously, but its strongly implied that Ryoko doesn't really love Tobimaro, especially in the manga where she immediately tossed him in a dumpster once her brother gave her permission to marry him.
She's also said the same thing about protagonist, Ataru, and another minor character, her brother's servant, Shingo, but just like the above, its implied she's just trying to mess with everyone.
There's the "villain" of the first half of the movie, the Final Chapter, which was also adopted into the new anime, Rupa, whom tries to force Lum to marry him, but ends up with Carla, his old sweetheart. Though than again Carla mgiht be more of an antihero given her violent behavior including threatening to kill Rupa if she married Lum.
Actually I just remembered the REAL villain/Hero pair in Urusei Yatsura is Ataru and Lum! Lum debuted as the champion of the Oni trying to conquer the Earth, but Ataru managed to beat her in a game of tag and unintentionally make her fall in love with him!
ngl urusei yatsura is getting more intriguing by the minute tbh… i’m still a lil bit wary bc of how i feel about inuyasha, but… it could be an outlier… and how she wrote narkik was a delight tbh…
but i’m pretty soft for loser protagonists… gantz ml, sunabouzu ml, kaiji ml… i love them for their vices so much… (none of these have romances, that i saw from their animes but… they are all pathetic in particular endearing ways that appeal to me tbh)
you have me convinced. i’m going to try start reading this month but, it’s not going to be straightaway tbh.
i’m curious anon, do you prefer villain/hero romances to end up happily or tragically/death?

Dreams tonite were actually remembered let me write down what I gathered
Earliest I can remember is a scene from what was Up 2. I didn't know it was Up 2 for a bit bc i was watching the movie in chunks (unsure if on or off camera). The protagonist was a woman this time, maybe Ellie, and she didn't look that old but she was dressed like a grandma with a cloth over her shoulders hunched back and w a cane.
When she tried to go up the stairs to her house (she was in a hurry) they broke and like monster house it was like they were trying to eat her. She was w a boy, anywhere from teen to young adult, who was holding her trying to pull her out. She even was completely submerged at one point.
She did make it inside the house tho and there were like 15 minutes left but I just didn't feel like finishing it despite finding it very enjoyable.
I think I was off at school now. We were gonna get a special class but I was sent off elsewhere. So now I was sitting on the side to a therapist's office. Middle top there was a desk with the professional and two chairs in front and to the side past the door there was I laying in the therapist couch™ just chilling with my phone as these people came and went. At least 2 did before Tim Burton showed up. His name sounded way longer tho so maybe they called him Timothy Burton or something.
Dude looked a bit more pale and disheveled but he had the black curly hair and beard. He was also pretty tall. And also very fucking awkward about the fact some guy he didn't know was in the room as he went to therapy (he was with someone else too I think he was being dragged here). He did say hi to me shyly waving a hand and I said hi twice bc I'm awkward like that. I thought of asking him for an autograph not bc i gave a fuck about the guy but bc i mean might as well you know? But then I didn't and was allowed to leave.
Outside I met with a shit ton of old faces. For starters there was my first BF from primary school who was having a meltdown because they tried to teach him about sexualities, but there was also the Bully™ also from primary school (he stuck longer than the first guy) who was just puking red, idk if it was blood but bro was going thru it. But I also looked my former bestie in the eye and spoke to her and she told me in the room another bestie of mine one with whom I didn't have a bad falling out had been in the class and I got really sad bc i loved that girl and I wanted to see her.
We then got lead to a big field. Reality and fiction mixed idk if I was back in the movie or not. I don't remember this as clearly. I complaint about the surroundings coloration. I met with two men outside. I stole two different pairs of sunglasses, second from a bat man (like the rusty lake guy, he was asleep).
Then I was with my class. And we were tasked to remake some... Buildings we'd written about before.
They made us run towards a wall full of boxes with clothes where we'd pick whatever we needed most, except as I looked around them not finding anything I needed (I wanted something masculine) I realized these were all clothes from my grandma. Complaint to myself about my dad not telling me where they were before.
I went inside of a warehouse. I was looking for art supplies. Many people were working on wood. There were half finished chairs on a table. I didn't know what I wanted
With another guy we found in a shelf pens inside a pencil case, and for some reason he was removing them one by one. Bro spilled some liquid paper (LICUI PAIPER) on my black puffy jacket. I was upset
I walked past a now SECONDARY school classmate. Not a friend, but the third wheel of the big brain sisters. She was killing it with her design.
Then a primary school guy again, a good friend. Good aside from us being extremely toxic that is. We made each other worse. Anyway his thing was flat and ugly it was just a sea with a little island and and even littler palm tree or perhaps human. I laughed really hard because I remembered this was what he had originally written in an act of laziness, and I loved it. He was actually touched by the fact I remembered such a thing and thanked me.
I went outside. Outside they didn't let me touch my notes, in fact, they took them away. The 2 men were now 2 teachers, I'm sure women. I was frustrated. I kept thinking of other things I'd do and after failing really hard to draw an arm I decided actually I'm not going to fucking do this.
And then I woke up

sonic's the cool of an older brother and kid doing sick tricks at a skate park that takes a minute to teach you how to skate super gently and nonchalantly and then pays for your food without you knowing and before you can thank him he's already gone or perhaps that gnc af person who skated past my home in a baggy t-shirt and jeans and gave a peace sign at me and made me reconsider my gender identity but reinforced my bisexuality
shadow's the raw coolness of a skeleton on a motorcycle. older distant cousin or friend of a friend you think is scary but then he shows you your first metal album and his collection of horror movies. the older cousin you're excited to hang out with at the family function bc he makes them uncomfortable (in the fun gay way). posters all over his wall and the know how to teach you how to pirate movies and songs. the kind of cool where you don't consider him a friend bc in your eyes you don't know each other well enough but he'd probably kill for you.
silver is a sad pathetic wet dog but he's like cool that disney channel originals wanted so badly for their protagonists of a guy who's so open about himself and tries so hard that it's honorable. the inherit coolness of a sweetheart. the. you know what:
whats great about sonic shadow and silver is they're all the epidemy of coolness but in their own way

i will say that i find it annoying how quick mcu fans are to blame fury about every little thing. like i've seen people object to nat's "eighty people in two days" comment by saying that fury was responsible for most of them (which he was, but quite frankly a government agency that exists to protect earth from extraterrestrial threats should be willing to accept members dying to keep a hostile alien from escaping with the most powerful object earth has literally ever seen, so i actually have no problem with that decision of his - everyone in that base was shown to be highly trained and aware that death was a likely outcome– note that loki knifing several people in the throat did not cause anyone to turn and run. they're secret agent soldiers, this is their job)
BUT nat pinning that on loki isn't fury's fault. we have no reason to think he told her anything but what actually happened, as nat is as much of a professional as any of the soldiers in that base were. i don't know if that was intentional manipulation on nat's part (again, i have no problem with that– twisting the truth to motivate people to fight back against the alien whose stated intention is world domination is fine by me), or if she just made an assumption and fury didn't care enough to correct her (in which case the blame would be somewhat on him but frankly getting into semantics when you need to be focused on the actual alien threat is kinda pointless), or if nat just has a mindset of root cause->fault (which would've been interesting but g-d forbid we focus on nat's personality instead of her ass), but it's still not fury's fault that she said that
fury was one of the best characters in the first avengers movie (which wasn't like cinematic brilliance or anything but you know what it was a fun movie and i enjoyed it cringe isn't real in this instance), and people are way too willing to ignore the surprising amount of depth that movie gave him in favor of "government man bad" (which. ok yes i agree with that in principle irl but tony stark is a billionaire and thor tried to invade a sovereign nation like a year ago; you gotta make allowances for fiction or else they're all horrible)
the council fired two missiles at new york. everyone remembers tony yeeting the second into space, but i think people forget that fury took down the first one (somehow without killing the pilot):
to be clear, the world council are basically his bosses. they ordered him to nuke the city and he refused. they went and did it anyway. hill warned fury and he managed to stop the first missile himself and was also the one who alerted tony to the second.
just..... credit where credit is due, yeah? fury's not a cardboard cutout of a character, he's probably the mcu's first real attempt at a protagonist character entirely in the morally gray zone whose decisions and actions as a character are both shown in a way that also the audience to understand where he's coming from while also giving them the space to say whether they think he was right or not.
the whole "using the tesseract to make weapons" thing makes sense. he has a good reason for it too– even ignoring what we learned in captain marvel, the events of the first thor movie made it clear that aliens were out there and could fuck shit up, something agents of s.h.i.e.l.d. then established he'd known even before that. and he's right– earth really, really, really isn't prepared to defend itself against what's out there.
also, kudos to that scene in particular for doing a pretty good job of giving characters reactions that made sense for those characters (usually this is something that shouldn't need brownie points, but it's whedon, so not basing the whole thing on snark that could come from anyone is a step up). steve is against making weapons with the tesseract bc that's what hydra did (and while he has every right to feel that way and be angry about fury not mentioning that, i feel like it needs to be said that there's a noticeable difference between "i'm making this to take over the world" and "i'm making this so we don't get murdered by fucking aliens"), tony is against it bc he has weapon-making trauma, bruce is against it bc he doesn't trust the government (nor should he), thor is against it bc he thinks humans are meddling with what they shouldn't (which. sure but that's sorta our thing. we're the "hey what's that let's meddle with it" species), clint isn't there, and nat doesn't give two shits.
anyway this is a whole lotta nothing but i love nick fury and he deserves better than being written as a cardboard cut-out convenient antagonist in fanfiction (especially if the author goes out of their way to have coulson and hill be good guys trapped under fury's tyrannical thumb. real subtle, y'all.)
#mcu#marvel#nick fury#samuel l jackson#i know someone is going to interpret this as me saying ''all power to the american military'' so i'll just address that here:#fuck the government fuck america fuck the military fuck colonialism give the land back#also i don't care what the movies try to say shield stands for strategic hazard intervention espionage logistics directorate#and it's international fuck you movies#first director was still richard stoner but only bc his name is hilarious#also no one asked but in my hc clint is only an agent bc people call him that#as far as most of the higher ups are concerned he just showed up one day and wouldn't go away and they let him stick around bc he was funny#and useful sometimes#fury: coulson there's a guy in a nest over there#coulson: oh that's barton. i let him live here and sometimes he shoots stuff for me#fury: ...you adopted him didn't you#coulson: HE NEEDED A HOME NICK#clint: *visibly a grown man who absolutely has a home* *munches doritos* yeah nick what are you gonna do send me back to the circus#fury: ...fine he can stay. (seriously phil just let me know ahead of time when you bring home strays that's all i'm asking)#a few years later clint shows up with natasha#clint: hey she followed me home can we keep her#fury: are you actually asking or...?#clint: not really. i mean i offered her my nest but she said she wanted a job#natasha: i was a black widow#fury: cool gonna need to vet you a LOT but hired

hello join me in thinking about some books and authors that are, or might be, part of s5′s intertextuality
5.10 in particular offered specific shout outs, and also u know i’m always wondering what might be ahead so i have some ideas on that:
- first, as mentioned in a previous ask post, i know i wasn’t alone in keeping an eye out for 5.10 parallels to the lost weekend (1945) the film that gave episode 1.10 its name and several themes - or to the 1944 book by charles r jackson which the film is based on
- s5 has not been shy about revisiting earlier seasons, especially s1. altho i feel that 1.10′s parallels to the lost weekend centered characters other than jughead (mostly betty), a 1.10-5.10 connection involving jughead and themes from jackson’s story (addiction, writers block, self reflection) seemed v possible if not inevitable
- but like,, , for a hot minute after the ep, i was really stumped on understanding how anything from the book or film could apply, even tho the pieces were almost all there
- jackson’s protagonist don birnam goes thru and comes out the other side of a harrowing days-long drinking binge that could be compared to jughead’s one-night hallucinogenic writing retreat
- but jughead is struggling primarily with traumatic memories, not addiction and self control like birnam. and tho drinking activates birnam’s creativity, it paralyzes his writing as he gets lost in fantasies; he’s never published anything. jughead’s drug trip recreates circumstances that already helped him write one successful book. even the rat that startles him mid-high doesn’t line up with birnam’s withdrawal vision of a dying mouse, symbolic of his horror at his own self-destruction thru alcohol
- and maybe the most visible discordance: in the film there’s a romantic motif around a typewriter. first it’s an object of shame; birnam’s failure to write, tied up with his drinking, makes him flee his relationship. he tries to pawn the typewriter for booze money and finally a gun when shooting himself feels easier than getting sober. but with the help of relentless encouragement from girlfriend helen, he quits drinking, commits to her, and focuses on typing out the story he’s dreamt of writing. rd goes so far to avoid setting any comparable scenario that jughead has brought a wholeass printer into the bunker so there can still be a physical manuscript to cover in blood by the end, even without his own typewriter. the subtle detail of his laptop bg image is a little less noticeable than his avoidance of betty’s gift
- tabitha might be closer to a parallel than jughead is, but she’s still no helen. both refuse to take advantage of the inebriated men in their care, but birnam takes advantage of helen, financially and emotionally. jughead refused a loan from the tate family and now has resolved to deal with his shit before he considers a relationship with tabitha. instead of helen’s relentless and unwelcomed attempts to get birnam sober, tabitha reluctantly agrees to help jughead trip safely bondage escape notwithstanding. she even helps him get the drugs.
- whatever potentials exist for parallels to jackson’s story, they were not explored for this episode. ok so why tf am i even talking about this? what was there instead?
- i have arrived at the point
- s5 has been revisiting s1, not directly but with a twist. and jughead’s agent samm pansky is back. u may recall, pansky is named for sam lansky
- jughead’s trip-thru-trauma is a story device tapped straight from lansky’s book ‘broken people’
- lansky is like if a millenial john rechy wrote extremely LA-flavored meta but just about himself no jk very like a modern successor to charles r jackson. both play with the boundary between memoir and fiction. lansky is gay; jackson wrote his lost weekend counterpart as closeted and remained closeted himself until only a few years before his death. both write with emotional clarity and self-scrutiny on the experiences of addiction, sobriety, and the surrounding issues of shame and self worth
- i feel like a fool bc after this ep i had been thinking about de quincey and his early writings on addiction (c.1800s), but i failed to carry the thought in the other direction, to contemporary writers in the genre, to make this connection sooner
- lansky’s second book, broken people, follows narrator ‘sam’, mid-20s, super depressed, hastled by his agent to write a decent follow-up to his first book, but too busy struggling with his self-worth and baggage from several past relationships. desperate, he takes up an offer to visit a new age shaman who promises to fix everything wrong with him in a matter of days. not to over simplify it but he literally spends a weekend doing psychedelics and hallucinating about his exes. jughead took note
- unless u want me to hurl myself into yet another dissertation about queer jughead, i think his parallel to sam - who, unlike jughead, has considerable financial privilege and whose anxieties center on body dysmorphia, hiv scares, and his own self-centeredness - pretty much ends there
- But,, the gist of the book could not be more harmonius with a major theme shared by the 2 films that inform the actual hallucination part of jughead’s bunker scene: mentally reframing past relationships to get closure + confronting trauma head-on in order to move forward
- so that’s neat. what other book and author stuff was in 5.10?
- stephen king and raymond carver get name dropped. i’m passingly familiar with them both but u bet i just skimmed their wiki bios in case anything relevant jumped out
- like jughead, carver was a student (later a lecturer) at the iowa writers workshop. also the son of an alcoholic and one himself
- i recall carver’s ‘what we talk about when we talk about love’ is what jughead was reading in 2.14 ‘the hills have eyes’ after he finds out about the first time betty kissed archie (at that time he does not respond as would any of carver’s characters)
- this collection of carver stories deals especially with infidelity, failings of communication, and the complexities and destructiveness of love. to unashamedly quote the resource that is course hero, ‘carver renders love as an experience that is inherently violent bc it produces psychic and emotional wounds.’ very fun to wonder about the significance of this collection within the s2 episode and in jughead’s thoughts. and maybe now in the context of the s5 state of relationships. or, at least, the state of jughead’s writing as seen by his agent
- anyway pansky doesn’t want carver, he wants stephen king
- i have too much to say about gerald’s game in 5.10, that’s getting its own post someday soon
- lol wait king’s wife is named tabitha uhhh king’s wiki reminded me of his childhood experience that possibly inspired his short story ‘the body’ (+1986 movie ‘stand by me’) when he ‘apparently witnessed one of his friends being struck and killed by a train tho he has no memory of the event’
- no mention of that in this rd episode but memories of a train could be interesting to consider with the imagery that intrudes on jughead’s hallucination. i still feel like it was a truck but the lights and sounds he experiences may be a train
- ok now we’re in the speculation part of today’s segment
- if jughead’s traumatic memory involves trains, then it’s possible this plot will take influence from la bête humaine <- this 1938 movie is based on the 1890 novel by french writer émile zola. this story deals with alcoholism and possessive jealousy in relationships, sometimes leading to murder. huh, kind of like carver. zola def comes down on the nature side of the nature-vs-nuture bad seed question (tho i should say he approaches this with great or maybe just v french compassion). also i can’t tell if this is me reaching but, something about la bête humaine reminds me of king’s ‘secret window’ which we’ve observed to be at least a style influence on jughead post time jump
- but wow a late-19th century french writer would be a random thing to drop into this season, right? then again zola also wrote about miners, which we’ve learned are an important part of this town’s history + whatever hiram is up to this time. and most notably, zola wrote ‘j’accuse...!’ an open letter in defense of a soldier falsely accused and unlawfully jailed for treason: alfred dreyfus. archie’s recent army trouble comes to mind.
- since the introduction of old man dreyfuss (plausibly Just a nod to close encounters actor richard dreyfuss, but also when is anything in this show Just one thing) i’ve been wondering if these little things could add up to a season-long reference to zola’s writings. but i had doubts and didn’t want to speak on it too soon bc, u know, it’s weird but is it weird enough for riverdale??
- however,,,
- (come on, u knew where i was going with this)
- a24′s film zola just came out. absolutely no relation to the french writer, it’s not based on a book but an insane and explicit twitter thread by aziah ‘zola’ wells about stripping and? human trafficking?? this feels ripe for rd even outside the potentials here for the lonely highway/missing girls plot.
- that would add up to a combination of homage that feels natural to this show
- anyway pls understand i’m just having fun speculating, most of this is based on nothing more concrete than the torturous mental tendril ras has hooked into my skull pls let go ras pls let go
#accompanying image has no meaningful organization it's just there to make me look insane. enjoy#riverdale speculation#filmref#but books#adhd has me like. this is Not the post i've been trying to write for weeks but my brain gave me no choice

good morning!
i was also really excited to go see D1 in theaters. i remember seeing the first AQP in theaters and yeah, all those scares got me! i obviously the suspense was paramount but i think AQP is one of the horror movies that used jump scares in an effective way without compromising that aforementioned suspense.
agreed! i mean it's really easy to poke holes in this franchise and raise questions about the ecology of the death angels, the logistics of anyone surviving when people make so many unintended sounds, but the science was never the point of the movie. it's meant to be believable enough that you can relate to what the characters are going through, see the steps made to make the world-building feel lived in despite the logistical errors, and speculate about all the things an enforced silence and/or the monsters themselves possibly represent. idk if you've seen Lupita Nyong'o's other horror feature Us, but the "science" makes no sense in that either and it doesn't matter at all! it's not the point!
we both same braincelled thinking of Luc when Frodo stole the show, lol. Sam being in hospice was a very interesting choice. it's unusual to see a main protagonist terminally ill, particularly in this setting where almost any other character's motivations are going to be survival. it does too, present some profound food for thought, exploring what the end of the world as we know it means to a woman who's already reached the end of the world as she knew it.
i was glad they brought Henri back! and we get to know his name that time, awesome! AQP2 did Djimon Hounsou so dirty. he didn't even get a name, his death was cheap and served no purpose. gross trope at full throttle in that movie, our mutual friend and i were talking about that when we watched AQP2 together. i know he was horrified to kill that guy, accidental though it was and particularly with his son there, but...it also felt very human and smth probable to happen at some point. that it was Henri talking action though was a good establishing character moment, while i wish he was in the movie a little more, with what we do have of him i totally understand how he was a natural leader for the island survivors.
Eric's entry! holy cannoli, how long was that guy underwater??? i was amused and endeared that Frodo was the very first thing he saw upon emerging and then, ofc, he followed him. i too would probably follow the cat in that situation.
...now, when Frodo leads him to Sam and a man following a cat around in a deserted city shifted into following a lone woman around a deserted, that is the moment i realized why Joseph Quinn specifically was cast in this role. Sam tries to shoo Eric away and he just keeps following her. there's no one around to uh, help if his intentions are bad. she's especially vulnerable bc she's already in a lot of pain...if this guy didn't have the face of everybody's beloved Eddie Munster, a much greater percentage of the audience would've been creeped the fuck out!!! albeit, he does keep a decent distance even when following her, it's not like he's right up on her heels.
BUT obviously context matters. once they get to talking, i was also endeared. Eric is so nakedly human in that moment. Sam is a very caring person. she gave those scared kids her expensive candy bar. she relents, doesn't try to dissuade this scared, soaking wet guy-- who isn't local and probably doesn't fully understand the directions she's trying to give him, anyway.
then, yes, agreed, that relationship really made the bulk of the movie and it was the most important part of the movie. some people thought there should be more action, i'm not really one of them. i appreciated the quieter, more emotive story being told about strangers bonding and caring for each other (and a cat) in the wake of devastation and destruction. the moments of levity they carve out together, the beauty in that, the small sacrifices and then the bigger ones.
i also knew Eric was going to make it...and than as much as i genuinely enjoyed this movie, here is where i do have some negative thoughts. i knew Eric was going to make it BECAUSE THEY SHOWED HIM MAKING IT IN THE FINAL TRAILER!!!!
WHY. that's--- don't do that! these days trailers feel the need to give away the whole movie! no! hold your cards!
also, i uh...i mean, you already know this because you read my fic (which I appreciate and i will reply to your comment soon, thank you, i'm gradually getting back intoe writing again and i am glad you enjoyed) but i, uh...yeah...sorry. if i had been in the writer's room on this project, Eric wouldn't have survived, either.
i understand that Sam's goal was never to get on the boat. she had already been facing her mortality as a terminally ill hospice patience and when the death angels forced devastation upon everyone, dying on her own terms in city she cared about became her driving force. buut i just...hmmm...with the sheer number of death angels that were there, Eric making it to the boat without a scratch felt a lot like plot-armor? albeit i'm totally biased bc i didn't feel right seeing them separated! i also think it could've been an interesting contrast to AQP2 of a failed sacrifice.
in AQP2, Emmett was fully willing to sacrifice himself for Regan, but she used her hearing aid to emit the frequency before it came to that, so neither of them died. if Sam still attempted the sacrifice play, but her making noise wasn't enough to prevent *one* of the death angels from getting Eric anyway, then uh, the opposite would've happened!
i don't hate the ending, given the contextual significance of Sam's character motivations, but still. they parted ways and it felt so wrong. 😭
if i have another negative, it would be that you can feel that some scenes were deleted? like, what happened to Eric's first pair of shoes? something definitely happened to those shoes and why cut that scene if you're going to keep the scene of Sam picking him out new shoes? and Denis O'Hare's character was cut entirely? WHY?
but again, mostly positive things to say. namely about the performances and themes, just downright incredible performances. including that of Nico & Schnitzel! extra praise for the suspense of the subway sequence! in that scene in the tunnel i was simultaneously aching for Eric mid-panic attack and jealous of Joseph Quinn bc i want Lupita Nyong'o to hold my face like that.
good evening, foxy! please tell me all your thoughts and feelings on AQP:D1! but only if you want, no pressure. 👾
Ahhh, thank you for this ask! I just loved it so much. 🧡 I was excited to watch it on the big screen; it was so worth it.
I know, I know, some things just don't make sense in the franchise, but I'm gonna just ignore that, because I'm in for the feels and cool monsters, not for science.
I love deep, emotional themes so Sam being in hospice really got the story off on the right foot for me. I instantly fell in love with Frodo, too, (and thought about how @lucdarling must love him, too). I could totally feel Sam when she risked both her and her "not friend's" life, too, to save him. I would do the same for my dog. The part where Henri accidentally killed the guy on the roof was a memorable scene, too, it stuck with me. Then off to the part where Eric entered. Gosh, the way my heart went !!! when he noticed Frodo, and Frodo adopted him and took him to Sam and went mom, can we keep him? and he was just standing there being so miserable and sweet. It was so endearing how he just followed the duo even though Sam tried to shoo him away. I got teary-eyed when they stopped in the rain and he was so scared to speak, and then just told Sam how he was really scared and didn't wanna die there. Aggghhh! And Sam just gave up and took him in. That was it for me. I was totally sold.
The part where Sam told Eric to kick in the door, and Eric just looked at her like really, do I look like an action hero? but then he did it made me laugh a little. The part where Eric shows up at the bookstore and just stands there again, too.
Then I was so freaking anxious when they were in the tunnels and Eric had a panic attack, but also felt so freaking soft for them. When Sam went over to try to ground him, to hold him, to save him. She was never gonna leave him behind. <3 gaaah
Then I cried when Eric gave Sam the pain patch thing and they agreed that Sam won't die until after they ate pizza. And cried when they held each other at the flaming hole in the ground. And when Sam gave him the sweater. And when he started crying when Sam gave him Frodo and sent him off to run. I was crying a lot.
I knew he was gonna make it, but my heart was still racing. My heart was breaking for the both of them, I wanted them to stay together longer, you know. (Your fic was perfectly soul-wrenching!)
I just loved the three of them so much! Sam and Eric felt so real, so human! The beauty was in the small things, I didn't need more action. I'm a sucker for found family themes, and with the sci-fi/horror backdrop, it was even more my cup of tee.
But the ending was badass with Sam exiting with that song in that way! I mean at the beginning she was just existing, waiting for death in that hospice being either angry or numb most of the time, probably mourning a lot of what could have been. And in the end she was at peace, she saved Eric and Frodo and she was ready to go.
I know I was all over the place, I'm sorry. ---- What did you think?

- omg 😳
- ok so we all know that denki flirts like his life depends on it
- boi will flirt with anyone
- and this continues when he gets to college
- everyone on campus knows he flirtsssss
- and sero kinda just tells him that’s his thing
- and that he’s lowkey a simp
- and yes sero and denki ended up at the same college don’t fite me on this
- and so denki’s flirting adventures continue onward!
- that is, until he met you 👀
- he saw u in one of his classes
- broski when he met u he felt like the protagonist in a cheesy high school movie where they see their love interest for the first time
- but for u it was more like
- why is this human pikachu staring at me
- but it’s okie! bc u end up helping him with his school work
- as u get closer u find out that kami’s a flirt
- we been knew sis
- and so u wonder what he’d be like if someone flirted with him
- and so,, u tried
- u started small yk u gotta ease into it
- “u’re cute u know that right?”
- pffff this b rlly said “ease into it”
- okay so maybe that was a bit forward
- there’s no going back now
- pikachu boi is shooketh
- and gets flustered
- “uhhh...”
- “i-i’m rlly not! hahah...oh my god”
- he tells sero immediately
- the next time u decide to try it again
- “u’re hilarious,” u say shoving his shoulder
- he just looks at u with wide eyes and blush on his cheeks
- sskksidjwduidi
- i think u broke him
- eventually u start flirting more and more
- and by that i mean basic pick up lines
- “hey hey! tie ur shoes, don’t want u falling for anyone else”
- “guess what i’m wearing?” “hm?” “the smile u gave me!”
- “ur lips look lonely, would they like to meet mine?”
- one time u said like 3 lines in a row and he could barely breathe
- but pick up lines aren’t the only tricks u have
- sometimes u just embarrass him
- one time u caught him staring and u simple winked at him
- boi was so flustered
- other times u’ll tease him w/ nicknames
- “denki, babe, c’mere”
- it’s rlly funny and refreshing to see someone else flirting with denki
- and so,, time goes on and u literally just straight up ask if he wants to go on a date
- “denki, u should go out with me”
- “hUH”
- “i’m telling u i’m interested”
- give him a sec
- he has to call sero in order to ask what to do
- sero just facepalms and tells him to say yes
- thus creating a relationship 😊
- and just bc u’re dating now doesn’t mean u’ll stop flirting 😏

rise of skywalker and sequels salt time, y’all
things I’m salty about in the rise of skywalker and the star wars sequels, in no particular order:
- Finn was sidelined
- FINN WAS SIDELINED
- he was such an interesting character with so much potential (a stormtrooper who deserted!! pretty sure that was the first time we’d ever seen that!!), and it was all ignored and he was turned into background noise for what?? kylo ren??
- seriously! after TFA, the movies should have explored his backstroy! we should have seen his stormtrooper past affect him!! maybe a stormtrooper revolution!! he should have had a CHARACTER ARC!
- also his force-sensitivity being turned into a joke and comic relief was frankly insulting
- they could have done so many things with that side of the character (even though it was kind of out of nowhere)! parallels between finn and rey, finn questioning his identity, the whole a former stormptrooper being force sensitive thing should have been explored!
- Poe was sidelined
- Poe was a spice runner for no reason?? 1) isn’t that a rude stereotype, and 2) Poe is not Han Solo 2.0!! he was his own, different character!
- Finn/Poe didn’t happen
- gonna be salty about that forever, though I guess I saw it coming :( (it’s disney, what did I expect?)
- but they gave Poe a straight love interest that we’d never heard of before this movie and who he had like two lines of dialogue with just to rub it in?? like, really?
- they completely forgot Rose existed
- like, listen, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the finnrose kiss either, but you can’t just pretend it didn’t happen and hope everyone forgets about it
- and sure, rose’s introduction and character in TLJ was a bit clumsy
- BUT YOU CAN’T JUST IGNORE HER AND PRETEND SHE DIDN’T HAPPEN
- she had a lot of potential as a character, and interesting backstory, a practical pragmatic personality, and a lot of ways she could play off the other characters
- TROS could have been where we saw Rose grow as a character and really shine
- instead, she was forgotten
- ugh
- REY PALPATINE WAS THE DUMBEST FRICKING THING OKAY--
- like, first of all, palpatine coming back for some reason somehow was the most ridiculous direction this movie could have gone and didn’t work, at all
- their enemy for the first TWO MOVIES was the First Order and Kylo Ren
- they had a huge moment in TLJ where the Resistance is steadily being destroyed and they won’t last long against the First Order
- now they’re supposed to take on the First Order and a now-supposedly-immortal emperor palpatine who has a collection of unmanned star destroyers he can control for some reason??
- both of them at once? the resistance is barely alive as is, now you’re adding an OP extra army + sith lord to the mix?
- I mean, this is ridiculous. Palpatine’s dead. Anakin’s big sacrifice in return of the jedi was KILLING palpatine. now he’s back, and the resistance somehow realises he’s back and decides he’s enemy #1 now?
- how did the resistance find out a dead sith lord came back to life on a remote planet anyways?
- and WHAT ABOUT, YOU KNOW, THE FIRST ORDER? AND KYLO REN?
- Kylo Ren, who they finally decided was going to be the main villain in TLJ (even with that stupid “rey trying to redeem the mass murderer” plot going on in the background), and now they don’t have the guts to commit to making him evil (which he was for the LAST TWO MOVIES AND THE MAJORITY OF TROS)
- so, since they weren’t committed enough to make Kylo a villain like he actually was and didn’t have the groundwork for a redemption, they just decided to ignore the fact that he was evil and hope it would go away
- like, are we going to forget that he literally MURDERED HIS DAD, HAN SOLO
- or that he and his first order destroyed a whole SYSTEM OF PLANETS? filled with billions of innocent people?
- he personally tortured Poe, he personally tortured Rey, and he was complicit in a system that kidnapped Finn, took him from his family, and brainwashed him
- not to mention that one of the opening scenes of TROS was him literally massacring people
- but no!! it’s all fine now, bc he looked at his dad’s ghost a little sadly and got a new lightsaber color
- like, no. he isn’t “redeemed” because he’s decided he has the hots for rey. heck, that makes it even worse. he’s been trying to manipulate her for all three movies, he’s gaslighted her, he’s threatened her, he’s hurt the people she cares about. NONE OF THAT IS OKAY. and it’s even less okay that all of his evil deeds can be written off because rey’s “”love”” for him “healed” him or whatever the fuck they want us to think
- and why would they have Rey HEAL him? after SHE stabbed him? in what universe does that make sense?? even if rey didn’t defeat him fairly bc he was distracted or whatever, this is still the supreme leader of the army rey and the rebels are trying to defeat. like, rey, are you a part of the resistance or not? it doesn’t matter if he was “nicer” to you than the rest of the rebels. He’s still your ENEMY. Your “”empathy”” here helps no one, least of all yourself. Kylo Ren dead would have been a massive victory for the resistance--maybe they’d even have had a chance against the first order then! you know, the first order? the enemy you were fighting for the last two movies?
- is this the message you want to be sending to young girls in the audience? that it’s ok if their partner hurts them, hurts other people, is a bad person in general, because their love can “”heal”” him? and that eventually, he’ll turn good if you just try hard enough?
- this is how people wind up in abusive relationships!! that shit is NOT okay
- and the kiss is ridiculous for the same reasons. you don’t owe kylo ren anything, rey. Not in the least for “rescuing” from a situation that was pretty much created bc of him. He’s the one who teamed up with palpatine at the beginning of the movie, remember?
- sometimes I feel like this movie forgot that kylo ren is, you know, a bad person, which the other two movies spent their entire runtime showing us
- like darth vader’s sacrifice was one thing. first of all, it was for his son, his child, and secondly, vader was very much under the power of the emperor and debatably had the mindset of a slave
- kylo ren, on the other hand, was completely under his own power. HE was making the choices, and calling the shots. HE murdered Snoke. And he died for a girl he was manipulating and gaslighting constantly and that he didn’t have much of a connection to other than “the force”
- like, darth vader’s “”redemption”” definitely wasn’t perfect either. you can argue that him killing the emperor and sacrificing him self to save his son didn’t negate any of his actions or him being a bad person. but it was definitely more meaningful and better handled.
- and let’s talk about rey
- I will forever be bitter that rey didn’t get a meaningful character arc and character growth
- which is so disappointing because she was SUCH an interesting (& mysterious) character with so much potential in TFA
- I feel like, in making her palpatine, which was pretty out of nowhere and contrary to the last jedi, they were so busy trying to fit her heritage into the movie in a way that sort of made sense that they forgot to make the movie about her growing as a character and person
- couldn’t they at least have given her her own lightsaber?
- I mean, her being a palpatine is already ridiculous because since when does palpatine have a son? (clone, whatever) And since when did that son have some sort of epic struggle where he refuses to join palpatine and runs away? and when did that son find someone he fell in love with, and have a daughter? and then subsequently abandon her, a seven-ish year old, on a dangerous desert planet? (I mean, wasn’t palpatine dead by then anyways?)
- it just doesn’t fit with the already established star wars universe. we already know palpatine’s story (well, not the beginning of it, but enough). It was movies 1-6, clone wars, and rebels. if he had had a son that had a luke-esque struggle against the darkside, it would have shown up.
- it just doesn’t fit
- but anyways, back to rey
- I guess they were trying to give her some luke-style struggle where she struggles with her heritage and a pull to the darkside that she has to ultimately triumph over? but it doesn’t work
- one, because she never HAS any struggle with the dark side. shooting lightning out of your fingers out of nowhere doesn’t count (and wasn’t that a ridiculous scene. it was more comical than anything else, which is definitely not what they were going for)
- a struggle with the darkside is about being tempted to give into anger, fear, and hatred, and struggling not to do the wrong things and turn evil. In luke’s story, we SAW that. we also saw luke’s horror and eventual acceptance of his heritage, which we never really saw with rey. It was just like, “okay, guess I’m a palpatine?” and it wasn’t nearly as impactful bc palpatine had been dead for the past thirty-ish years. as a contrast, vader was a living and very present villain who the heroes had to contend with, and it was personal for most of them.
- so I guess they tried to make that her character arc, but it didn’t work. so we were left with a stale character who didn’t really have any meaningful victories or losses.
- is she really a “”mary sue”” like everyone’s claiming if they never really made the story about her?
- I think that was the biggest thing that was so unsatisfying about the sequels
- she was hyped up to be the first real mainstream female jedi protagonist (obviously clone wars got there first, but movies are definitely more mainstream than a show, sorry cw :( ), but she never really got a journey, struggles, or real triumphs. which is such a shame because she was this really empowering character in TFA that I was so excited to see more! but her trilogy-wide character arc just wasn’t satsifying
- I wanted to see her really struggle, and rise above her struggles! I wanted her to have meaningful triumphs!
- also I don’t think she ever got injured either, which is definitely a deviation from the star wars trilogy pattern. that’s kinda strange. (luke lost his hand & got electrocuted, han got frozen in carbonite, leia got tortured & shot, anakin got, well, a LOT of injuries, but even before becoming darth vader w/ the foregone conclusion, he had his arm cut off, padme was pretty heavily injured on genosis, and obi-wan was injured in the fight against dooku)
- yup
- also the sith wayfinder was kinda dumb, and I never felt like there were real stakes in TROS
- and let’s address the rey skywalker thing: ok, fine, I get what they were trying to say, kind of
- and I’m not foaming at the mouth about it like some people are. I’m fairly indifferent
- but it would have been a lot more meaningful if rey had had like, a really close, deep relationship with Leia and Luke, so she could say that she and they considered her a skywalker
- but she didn’t have that sort of relationship with them, not really. Sure, she and leia were friends on-screen, but that was it. and luke didn’t really seem to like her all that much.
- so like, “meh”
- especially since Leia’s technically a Solo or an Organa, so that line working really relied on her relationship with Luke, which wasn’t strong enough
- yea, so that’s that
- the “jedi voices” scene was pretty cool though (AAAAH AHSOKA!! AND ANAKIN!! AND ALL THE OTHER JEDI!!), and I liked her yellow lightsaber (although she could have built her own lightsaber at the BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE, instead of carrying luke’s the whole time)
there are things I like about the sequels, mind you. a lot of things!! but there’s a lot I was disappointed in too.
congrats if you got this far, that was a LOT of salt

Derek Hale and Superman (What? I only want you to think about Tyler Hoechlin *twice*? Whatever gave you that idea! I'm a totally innocent soul who just wants to know your headcannons 😇)
derek hale sexuality headcanon: derek is bi (but UNSURPRISINGLY has some issues surround sex and consent and is going to need some extensive therapy to be in a healthy place before he can really commit to a relationship) favorite ship(s): sterek, forever brotp: i looooove any all fics that have derek’s best friends as erica and boyd. notp: i mean?? all of them. derek is one of those characters who i exclusively ship with one person (stiles) and i don’t read him with anyone else. a random headcanon: this is not a random headcanon, this is a very specific FACT that canon introduced and then tried to gaslight everybody into forgetting: derek was 110% a TEENager (like 15–16 at most) when kate groomed and assaulted him. general opinion: the show did not know how to write derek. they gave him the most genuinely heartwrenching, tragic backstory that should belong to the protagonist and engender feelings of empathy and understanding from the audience....and then the writers tried to treat him like an antagonist??? it was the most mind boggling choice EVER and to this day i still don’t get what their beef was with the character bc holy shit sometimes their writing was So Bad
superman/clark kent sexuality headcanon: superman is an alien. he’s whatever he wants to be. favorite ship(s): lois/clark brotp: ah...? gonna be honest here, i haven’t watched or read a lot of content with superman. i like the relationship between bruce and clark in thepandaredd’s tiktok videos notp: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ a random headcanon: just stealing from thepandaredd again, i think superman would be extremely judgy of batman kidnapping/adopting stray orphan children to make them his new robin’s 😂😂 general opinion: personally i prefer batman to superman, so i don’t engage with a lot of the content. but i did watch s1 and some of s2 of supergirl just to watch the scenes of tyler hoechlin playing superman/clark and i LOVE this for him. i really think it was inspired casting and i love how they write him—he’s so goofy and to a t what i imagine clark should be like (that little stumble/trip in supergirl where kara’s like “oh man you’re so good at this clumsy human cover!” and clark is just like “.....no that was real” ADORABLE). superman is one of those characters that just?? doesn’t work in a gritty reboot to be honest, and i have negative interest in the current DC-justice league movies bc of it. but the tv show seems to get his character way more and i hope it does really well!!
send me a character and i’ll tell you…
#ask#anonymous#i love tyler hoechlin so much#i have loved him since i was a kid watching 7th heaven#i'm glad he's still out there doing good work#and i am super excited to see all the gifs from superman and lois even if i myself will probably not watch the show

Mischievous Antics 『Kuroo Tetsurou x Reader』
Request: Hey hey!! I really love your work, I was wondering if you could make a kuroo x reader oneshot of kuroo messing with the reader and they start playfully fighting bc of that. I dont know if you get what I mean but thank you in advanced 🖤❤️ (Anon)
A/N: I totally get what you mean :>> I feel like Kuroo would definitely be the type of boyfriend that would always mess with and annoy you. But you still love him regardless of his ridiculous antics, because who wouldn't?
Warnings: Mild swearing
Word count: 1.5k
Masterlist!!
Everyone who's known Kuroo is well aware of the fact that he is, to put it simply, a ginormous troublemaker. Everyone knows that they have to be especially careful around the man, else they'll find themselves in some sort of sticky situation. Which is definitely why you don't have the right to blame Kuroo for taking embarrassing photos of you, that he may or may not use for blackmail, you should be blaming yourself for falling asleep in the middle of the living room wearing the ridiculous looking (though undeniably comfortable) t-rex onesie Tsukishima gifted you for your birthday, with a Korean face masks that was probably way too overpriced to be a reasonable purchase, but you didn't care.
It was Sunday evening, you were home alone and you wanted to pamper yourself. College was just as, if not more, tiring than they made it seem when you were in high school, hence why you needed a day for yourself every once in a while.
This was precisely the reason why Kuroo decided to surprise you that night with a bags full of your favorite foods and a list of movies you two could binge watch that night. He got in with the spare key he knew you hid under a flower pot by the entrance and instead of being greeted with a big hug from you after being pleasantly surprised with his sudden arrival and presents, he found you passed out cold in the living room, a bowl of half melted ice cream precariously clutched in your arms, only inches away from spilling all over your onesie, which Kuroo found incredibly cute. The anime that you had previously been watching was still playing, you had just missed an epic boss battle between the protagonist and his best friend who was secretly evil but that wasn't important. What was important was how completely ridiculous you looked.
Kuroo tried to stifle his laughter. Emphasis on tried. He couldn't help but let out a few giggles which luckily didn't do much but make you stir groggily, the ice cream miraculously still not spilling everywhere.
He hastily carried the bags of food into the kitchen and rushed back to you with his phone in his hand, the camera app already open. He positioned the camera right above you, he made sure to get the most unflattering angle because he was a good boyfriend.
All would have gone well if he hadn't forgotten to turn the flash off. The bright light flashed over your face waking you from your slumber. Kuroo froze in place, his phone still hovering over you. You groggily looked up at him, rubbing your eyes.
"Tetsu?" You asked, your voice laced with sleepiness. Your hand brushed over your cheeks and felt the face mask, and you suddenly realized what was happening.
You two stood there for a few seconds, frozen. And just like that you two jumped like frightened cats. Kuroo jumped over the coffee table, adrenaline pumping through his veins.
He ran as if his life depended on it, and to be honest, it kind of did.
You let out a screech in shock and leapt after him, the bowl of ice cream now crashing onto the ground, but he was too quick for you.
Before Kuroo could run into the bathroom to lock himself in, he tripped on the carpet but he caught himself before he crashed onto the ground, but this momentary delay gave you time to catch up on him. You made a grab for the phone but Kuroo quickly held it up in the air, far from your reach. His years of volleyball and troublemaking had lead to him developing rather fast reflexes.
He pried you off of him and ran into the kitchen instead, and found himself cornered behind the small kitchen island. You skidded to halt right across from him, the island being the only thing keeping you from strangling the man.
"Had a good nap, hun?" He grinned cheekily at you. He waved out his phone, close enough that you could see your incriminating photo in full HD but far enough that it was only a little bit more than arms length.
You growled at him as you internally asked yourself why you were dating the oaf. You threw your face mask at him.
"Kuroo Tetsurou, you are such an asshole!" You bellowed. His grin only grew wider. You dashed towards him from the left of the island but Kuroo ran towards the right, leading you two to be in the same position but on the other sides of the granite surface.
"I swear when I get my hands on you-" You began listing down rather violent ways on how you were going to make the male regret his actions.
Kuroo's face only grew more smug at these threats. "You're so cute when you're feeling homicidal tendencies." He cooed at you. "But I think this is much more cuter."
He grinned down at his phone, ignoring your death glare, when an idea popped into his head. "It would...be a shame if...this happened to be accidentally sent to someone."
You gasped at these words. "You wouldn't."
"Come on, let's be honest, we both know that I would."
He began tapping on his phone, preparing to send the incriminating photo to the groupchat you, Kuroo and your closest friends were in. This list included Kenma, Yaku, Bokuto, Tsukishima, Akaashi and several of your other friends. You'd never hear the end of it.
You clenched your fists in defeat and stared at your feet (which were t-rex feet but that wasn't important).
Kuroo was just about to send the photo when he heard a sniffle. He froze in his place, guilt already beginning to engulf him.
He turned to you, you were biting your lips in frustration, tears prickling the corners of your eyes. He hated when you cried, especially when he was the one that caused them to begin with.
"Hey, hey, no, I was just playing around. I'm sorry. I didn't mean for you to get upset." He cautiously approached you. "I won't send it to anyone, I promise."
He was now beside you, rubbing your shoulders consolingly, when he noticed the corners of your mouth rising by a fraction.
It was too late, you had grabbed ahold of his phone. You ducked under his arm and ran for the living room, quickly trying to delete the photo from both the gallery and the recently deleted folder, but you couldn't do this quickly as you were running from a feral and thoroughly betrayed man behind you.
He quickly gained on you and tried to grab the phone, you two were now having a tug of war contest with the unfortunate device. Kuroo then tripped on a shoe and fell onto the floor, his face landing on the spilt ice cream. The melted vanilla and chocolate was smeared all over the side of his face and was all over his hair but his focus was still on the phone that he managed to hold on to even during his fall.
"Let--go!" You cried out and you pulled with all your might.
"It's my phone--you hag!"
As Kuroo said this though, his grip on the phone loosened and you found yourself falling back from the sudden loss of force from his end. You exclaimed in delight as you brought the phone up to your face, only to gasp in horror as you took in what was on the screen.
Amidst the chaos that just ensued, one of you had unknowingly managed to send the photo the the group chat.
Bokuto, always the first to see messages, had already sent a dozen or so messages and gifs, his delight evident. Akaashi, who checked the chat because of Bokuto's spamming, was now sharing his own delightfully sarcastic comments. Yaku had just seen the photo and was already typing his reaction as you groaned in defeat.
Kuroo grabbed the phone from your lax hands and roared in laughter upon seeing the chat. He struggled to breath as he fell into more laughter, tears even started to prickle his eyes, when a bright light flashed and a little notification pinged from Kuroo's phone.
He looked down onto the groupchat only to see his own face, manic with glee. He had to admit, he looked ridiculous, with melted, sticky vanilla and chocolate ice cream smeared all over his face, clothes and hair, which was now messier than ever, which is saying something for the male.
He looked over at your smug face. You were still lying on the ground from your fall earlier, but your hands were now clasped on your own phone which was left on the coffee table beside you earlier.
You stuck your tongue out at him.
"I really hate you, you know." He said playfully as he began poking the sides of your stomach. You burst into laughter from his unrelenting tickling and struggled under him. When you calmed down from your fits of giggles, you sighed and smiled fondly at him. "I love you too, jerk."

it’s kinda hard to ship them, because there didn’t seem to be much feelings on either side, and I want the turmoil of conflicting emotions.
There certainly isn't for Milady, whom everyone ultimately surmises is nothing but pure evil, however by the sequel, Athos is consumed with guilt by executing her vigilante style and state's at one point that he constantly thinks of her son, as well as that he wouldn't have been able to kill her if she brought him up during her execution..
And this is before her grown son shows up as the new villain, speaking of which, Athos continually tries to make peace with Mordaunt & even prevents the other musketeers from killing him. Plus its strongly implied that Milady's son was fathered by Athos.
I do consider Milady a henchman tho, rather than the big bad, tho, since Richelieu runs the show.
I'd argue that Milady is the main villain, its not Richeleiu that's a sadistic mass murderer, whom commits crime for the thrill of it, whom hired assassins to kill the protagonists, whom tried to poison an entire party, that killed the protagonist's true love.
Plus Cardinal Richelieu, whilst ruthless, is acting for the good of France, Milady has everything she could everything want, but kills because she likes it, the cast even states the latter in the book!
More on the subject of gender flipped dangerous villain /w obsession with heroine scenarios, I feel reversals are rare because we almost always subconsciously think of women as weaker & the submissive party in a relationship. So the hero isn't danger from the villainess like the heroine is from the villain, instead he's viewed as "conquering" her.
Also from what I remember from the parody Sentai, the example you gave was clearly a henchwoman and not the main deadly villain.
Milady is certainly one of a kind, at least. You’re making me want to reread Three Musketeers, because I can’t really remember if there were any passages in her perspective, tbh. I vaguely remember her tricking someone to free her when she was imprisoned, but I don’t recall any of her thoughts on Athos/d’Artagnan, tbh. But perhaps she really is pure evil, as others assume her to be? She’s fun, though.
I do wonder if Milady might have lived if Dumas had ideas of the sequel in mind… so she could have used that excuse. But hmm, I kinda like that she kept quiet about it.
I do need to get back into Twenty Years Later!! I’m technically reading it and just. Yeah. Got distracted, even if it’s by my bedside to remind me to read it every night… didn’t get too far in it, but my curiosity is piqued!
Hmm… I kinda agree and disagree, tbh, re: Milady being the villain of TTM over Richelieu. (Partly bc I’m charmed by Tim Curry’s performance even tho that movie is a terrible adaptation. But… I still really like it bc it constantly played on tv, so it’s nostalgic for me and he’s just sooo hammy.) I agree that Milady is certainly the more evil out of the two, and does the heavy lifting. But.
Even though it’s fairer to recontextualize him as the musketeer’s antagonist, and by TYL, they changed their mind about him, and could see he was acting for France’s best interest, in hindsight, even if it butted heads with how the musketeer’s would act in France’s best interests… that’s not what they thought at the time. (I am curious to see how Mazarin fares though…) So, I still sort of see him as a villain, and adaptations certainly don’t help (altho Peter Capaldi, had he continued the role in s2… perhaps the show could have leaned more into it.)
To me, I also think Richelieu is more of a villain, because he’s running the show and pulling strings offscreen tbh. Milady certainly acts of her own accord, does plenty, but she is still an underling. I don’t think she ever disobeys orders, but my memory is kinda murky on that. She still is a villain even if she’s a henchman, but I wouldn’t really consider her to be the main villain unless she overthrew Richelieu.
Re: gender villain reversals, yeah. That’s probably a likely reason… although does kinda make me wonder why there aren’t more villain/hero, villainess/heroine ships in that case. Might be looking in the wrong places tho.
Do you not consider henchmen/hero(ine) to be villain/hero romances? Because I would still consider Meg/Hercules a villain/hero romance despite Meg dying/switching sides in the end. Or idk, perhaps I’m splitting hairs, and villains are both the main big bad, and their minions. (I still think it’s relevant to the topic.) But you’re right in the sense that yeah, it’s harder to find main deadly villainesses with hero romances, going by those conditions, in that case.

Onmyoji Movie
HI so I watched the Onmyoji Movie based off of the game last night and . . . . that sure was something!
In all honesty despite the weird path they decided to take, I actually enjoyed the movie. The music and detail in the scenery was amazing, I LOVED the costuming for a lot of the background characters esp in the Demon Realm, and a lot of the easter eggs that were hidden were nice.
BUT. but. As someone heavily invested in the lore of the game (especially concerning Ibaraki) how they decided to deal with the movie was like. really confusing. It genuinely felt as if NE gave the directors a cast of characters and let them do what they wanted from there w/o any prior knowledge of the game.
(spoilers down below)
Before I really pry into that though, I’ll kinda note some of the characters.
Seimei/Qingming was actually my favorite. I think this is sort of an unpopular opinion right now, but his characterization was so nice even if it sorta leans into the basic drama hero type personality. In the game Seimei is supposed to be you/the player, and not everyone is going to have the same interpretation of him-- and that’s what the movie felt like, a different interpretation. I will say I didn’t really like them making him related to their version of Orochi. I believe the snakes name was Xiangliu? I can’t remember, but I didn’t see the reason in that.
If anything, keeping him a fox and having a version of Tamamo no Mae popping up to offer advice to help with the situation would’ve been nicer, and that’d keep more of Seimei’s backstory kept in tact-- because asides from him becoming an Onmyoji apprentice at a young age we literally do not know shit about him. And legit I wouldn’t necessarily mind bc it’s a movie, you’re not going to get everyone’s backstory within 2 hrs, but we can’t really get attached to him.
Yao Bikuni/Baini was. Hm. I like her as a character in the movie, but I don’t like where she’s placed as a character in the movie. She’s a Seer? in the game and tbh it should’ve stayed that way, like I honestly can’t see her willingly working for one clan. “But how would she--” In game she is also influenced by Seimei pretty heavily, as in the in game chapters she believed he would be able to kill her. Up until she got manipulated by Orochi, she stuck to his side. With the Stone plot in the movie, if it put him in danger she would be there in order to try and help him, OR, try and pull him to join Orochi if they went that route. And they KINDA tried to hint at it when Seimei “died” with Orochi using her image, but like. come on man. Let Yao be evil for a little bit.
That being said I didn’t like the Master & Shikigami bit with those two, or the implied romance they tried to pull with them. Canonically Seimei legit brushes her off and when shes like “ohhh you’ll kill me right” hes like “lol sure” and thats IT. Literally any form of romance that’s tried at Seimei he brushes it off. he’s not into it he’s an amnesiac.
The “Oh if you become my shikigami you won’t become evil” thing was :/ to me as well because again, canonically, even though Seimei is being taunted he can contain the Kitsune part pretty well even when he wasn’t aware he was kitsune. Like I think the part as a kid was a good bit to add since it’s when he’s first being exposed to Onmyoji type stuff, but like. idk idk I couldn’t vibe with that power dynamic while they were trying to hint romance.
Continuing on with Hiromasa/Yuan Boya and Kagura/Shenle, again considering this is a movie, I’m somewhat content with their characters.
I really liked how energetic this Kagura was, and given they weren’t able to do her actual backstory, I liked the one she was given. Her introduction in the movie was really great too-- and compared to Hiromasa I felt they gave her a little more attention? Which like fine, but not so good for Hiro.
They didn’t even. Discuss his archery skills at any point which was disappointing. The most plot relevance he (and honestly Kagura too) had was finding Seimei while trying to arrest him but that’s it. And yes they showed some of his skill while he was fighting Kamaitachi, but that’s the extent of it. AGAIN i’ll consider the fact this was a movie and they didn’t have enough time to fit EVERYTHING in, but since they gave Yao and Seimei so much attention you would think they’d be able to spare some for the other two protagonists in the game.
Before I leave those two tho I’m still trying to figure out what the fuck happened in the end. Like did hiromasa get promoted in some form? was he given credit for what happened between the demon realm? Why did he separate from Kagura since they got close during the movie? I guess like bc work duties but still. I have no idea tho like i was sitting there not processing a single thing. Regardless I did like Hiro and Kags acting like siblings despite in this canon them not being related (at least it’s never clarified).
Ok so before I dive into the whole mess that is the Cimu/”Ibaraki” character, stuff on side characters.
While I didn’t like the outfits for Sakura(? Momo? Both of them?) or Chocho, I liked the roles that they held as sort of trainers for the rest of Seimeis shikigami. In fact I liked the whole courtyard ordeal in general. I have my own worldbuilding thing that has a similar theme so seeing it being used canonically was pretty nice. I do wish we could’ve seen more SSRs or even SRs though. Like, why couldn’t Aoandon be hanging out in the courtyard to give gossip to Hiro & Kagura? Yamakaze or Shishio hanging out in the forest, or like. bruh even Jikikaeru as the boss in the Showdown considering he runs that in game.
I did like the fish man! I really did, but literally everything about him could’ve been Jikikaeru, I don’t think it’s that hard to make a frog man.
Also as mentioned previously it would’ve been nice to see Tamamo make an appearance considering he makes random ones every now and then. The Mujou Brothers could’ve helped the shikigami when they were escaping Seimeis courtyard, Shiranui could’ve been an entertainer while they were traveling through the demon realm, HAKU??? couldve been one of Seimeis shiki?? literally anyone. They have all these misc characters in the background but barely any of them resemble in game characters.
GOD EVEN KOSODENOTE COULDVE BEEN THERE . . . . at the scene where Kagura was messing with jewelry and clothing . . . Koso couldve been the seller. Aobozu could’ve worked at the shrine . . . . I just. Man.
ANYWAYS . . . pulling from that and going into whatever the hell Cimu is. god.
So according to casting, Cimu is supposed to be Ibaraki. But the thing is. There’s only like. 3-4 Elements about Ibaraki that goes into him. Everything else is Shuten which i honestly find pretty funny?? Take away the homophobic jokes and combine the gay coded character into his love interest. Which I mean that’s better than making them brothers but at what cost.
anyways. Cimu previously being an onmyoji but turning evil -> shuten previously being a monk and turning evil. The design of the hand that Cimu uses as transportation -> SP Shutens design where he sits on two hands. Red hair -> shuten. The horns, eye color (minus scleras), arm getting chopped off, and his ambition to grow stronger are really the only parts of Ibaraki that’s in the character-- and even then you could say Shuten has a similar ambition of growing stronger. It’s just so scuffed.
ALSO IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. literally it doesn’t make sense when you look at the characters.
Why couldn’t they just stick with Kuro Seimei considering the fact that this Ibaraki works with Ootengus and Yuki Onna/The Snow Queen? They could’ve given Seimei a twin brother to work off of this. But like if they really wanted to keep Ibaraki and Shuten, they could’ve made it that Shuten was being manipulated by Orochi and Ibaraki was serving him, because there’s a LOT of shit you could do just with Shuten by himself. Legit no reason to combine the two since they’re BOTH heavily marketed characters.
Legit like, Shuten being controlled, given Ibaraki’s loyalty to Shuten he would most likely follow him no matter what, and even like. Have a form of Momiji to kind of help out-- probably at a heavy expense of Shuten doing something for her, but still. like i LOVED the snow queen, I loved this interpretation of yuki so I wouldn’t want to get rid of her, but they shouldve went with Seimei 2 instead of “ibaraki”. It’s just so much and it doesn’t make sense.
Now orochi himself and how that was handled was like. Okay I guess. If anyone was being talked to through their head at the time it should’ve been Yao Bikuni considering she allies with him in canon at one point. but like whatever. I did think the end was neat where Seimei forced him into becoming his shikigami, like I liked that whole process. Otherwise all antagonists were pretty underwhelming.
I also was not fond of the ending where like Seimei just turns away at the broken bridge. Like does this mean the Demon realm is completely cut off now? just fix the bridge. Also does Seimei just fuck off?? I know theres a scene where he’s standing on the roof but. i dont know.
Regardless the movie was great, I had fun watching it. When ibaraki came in I accidentally paused the movie a couple of times while spamming screenshots. Even tho hes like kinda ugly but that’s ok. There WERE some angles where he was hot as hell but otherwise they did his actor so dirty. The horns were just. God I won’t delve into that bc this post is long as hell BUT. BUT. THE MOVIE WAS GOOD. just not if ure into the lore for the game LMAO.
Ok that’s it for now bye
#Onmyoji#this is so long and probably incomprehensible but these r my thots#tbh i cant wait for the drama that's coming too they teased it but w like. actual outfits from the game#it was seimei and momiji so i think its following in game chapters#i wonder how they'll end it tho since those chapters arent finished(?)
