Eli’s Top 5 Rules To Be a Totally Cool Awesome Badass Artist In As Long As It’s Going To Take (In Order) :

Most important rule of all is it should be FUN. be disgustingly self indulgent, draw what you want and LOVE, not what you think you should or what everyone else is, or how everyone else is! don���t vibe with doing sketches first? hate lining? despise complicated painting styles? find shortcuts, don’t do them!!! if you’re doing digital maybe draw your sketches traditionally first and scan them/take a photo to draw over, try a lineless style, cel shading, or mixing mediums, the options are endless! this is where your “style” will come from. all “style” is, is an artists shorthand.

You are your only competition. never compare your progress to anyone but your past self, it’s not a race in terms of how good you are at X age after X amount of time spent practicing. i saw it illustrated in this comic a few years ago (that made me cry at the time, because i hadn’t started drawing yet) as seeing your skills as a beautiful potted plant- just because some people are walking around with theirs fully grown and thriving, doesn’t mean your little sprout will stay small forever. just be patient, keep watering it, and eventually, it’ll be a beautiful flower all your own. ❀

Use references Obsessively. this includes tracing! (ethically) there’s a ton of resources out there, redraws of frames from movie or shows are great too! play around with it, try using the perspective but change the style or turn it into a character au for a fandom you love. (this is part of that first tip!) mashing together images past the point of original intelligibility is acceptable as well. the goal isn’t to obsess over accuracy or stop using references altogether though, just to use them differently over time.

Inspiration/motivation won’t be gone forever. don’t force yourself to practice drawing, or you’ll end up resenting it altogether. i’ve had my tablet and pencil since january but i say 6 months bc there were two (almost three) entire months where i had no inspiration and just did Nothing. take time to consume new media for ideas or look at what inspires you instead! keep folders of the things you find most appealing to pull up when you need them. art can be a freeing escape if you allow it to be!

Look at art you admire and think about Why you admire it. why does it look good, what catches your eye most? is it the colors? the lighting? the shapes and perspective? the varied line thicknesses or the overall layout composition? everything can be broken down into components, hone in on the ones you like most and try to emulate them. we’re all just flowing down the stream of shared inspiration together. :)

bonus digital art tip: you will always need more layers than you think you do. give each element its own layer like it’s the most introverted mf you’ve ever met, i swear on everything good in this cursed world you will thank me later. layer/item selection and transform are your best goddamn friends for life.

Summary: Shortly after the events of the Eternal Night, memories of a day that never happened somehow resurface in Jim’s mind in his sleep- and upon recalling the friendship he and Aja formed, he decides to pursue that connection again. Slice of life, and kinda a slow burn friendship reunion. A hybrid of prose and chat fic (to be seen in later chapters.)

T: dude no offense but are you sure it wasnt just a normal dream

J: Merlin turned me into a fucking TROLL and aliens are where you decide to draw the line

J: What I saw honestly felt so real, I swear. It was two weeks ago, at the science fair. We were fighting a troll in the planetarium with them, and the troll kept combining magic with some alien tech, which kept reversing everyone back to the beginning of the day, like a time loop or something. But I could remember everything bc of the amulet. Aja remembered bc of some energy shield she had. We lived through the same day almost a dozen times.

T: whoa…

J: And get this- in some of those loops we even went to their house and got to look around inside their spaceship! But none of us are supposed to recall any of it bc technically the entire day never happened? It’s how we defeated the troll, that bit’s a little fuzzy. A lot of technobabble sorry.

T: goddd out of all the days to forget huh

J: Right??

J: I guess… if she remembered all of this before I’m kinda curious if she still remembers now too. If it really happened. We were friends in that memory. It’d be nice to maybe get to know her again, y’know?

Admission, I had far too much fun with the text format. I've never attempted anything like it, but I especially wanted to create unique "character voices" that extended into the way they each type- which was a cool challenge.

I imagined Toby as the sort of person who types out his thoughts far too quickly to care about punctuation, and IMO if Trollhunters was set just a year later (I generally just imagine it all set in 2016) he'd be keymashing. Jim is more of a full sentence type of guy who never turned off auto capitalization.

ALSO, a note on the contact photos- (Jim's which I directly took from a screenshot from Claire's phone, and Toby's which I edited from some 2D concept art)- That's the photo Jim uses for Toby's contact, and I imagine there's probably some inside joke where Jim took a really derpy photo of him at one point and they laughed so hard about it that he immortalized it as his contact. Jim's personal contact photo is... well, as this all takes place post s3 of course, a rather sad reminder of his loss of humanity. He can't bother himself to change it currently.

Future chapters will likely be a mix of text AND prose, instead of one or the other. Hope you enjoyed!

QUESTIONS.

✧   what is your special talent/skill as a roleplayer? i think one thing i’ve always been particularly proud of is how i set a mood or a scene. i love using colors and, when i can, fantastical words to describe a setting. i love getting deep down to the ugly of a muse, too. i love describing their flaws because there’s often too many times where a character is “pretty”, when a lot of my muses, though yes they’re beautiful, they have so many ugly parts to them as well, physically and mentally (dan has scars on his lips from mythology, raven has some pretty crooked teeth?? emrys suffers schizophrenia and adhd and gods does that make it difficult for him to focus on everyday things)  ✧   what is your favorite type of roleplay genre, and why?  i don’t get to write it a lot but like . .. ask silver i really like hurting the HELL out of my muses. there’s like no muse that makes it out alive from my torment, not even my happy muses like doyun and raphael. but, my muses, because they are such hurt individuals, i do love giving them sweet threads whether it’s romantic or simply comfort. i think it draws out just as many raw emotions from them like angst or hurt.

✧   why did you pick your muse? ok listen- i have a lot and a lot of them are wILDLY DIFFERENT. but, really... i pick them based off my personality when it comes to my canon muses. i relate to a lot of them emotionally, and my ocs are my own creations and date way back to even 2012 and have changed so much from what they used to be. characters like the winter brothers are basically stemmed from my emotions when i was going through a lot as a kid, but with my they have grown, even if they fall hard a lot when something goes wrong.

✧   if you could write any other muse - but know you don’t have the muse for him/her - i would like?? to bring back elliot, but at the same time the fandom is hit-or-miss a lot and it also stemmed a lot of bad memories for me. but elliot was always my favorite muse to write, he was the one that really taught me that yes, you can have morals and your own ideals . . . but they may not be exactly right when the time comes down to it. you may be called a hypocrite, but you’d rather change yourself for the better and he even saved his friends doing so.

✧   what is one thing you think you need to work on as a partner? i need to... really not be so?? shy. because i talk to my friends and i’ve been here a while... and i GIVE OFF THE ATTITUDE OF LIKE i don’t care if you wanna interact w me or not buT LIKE I REALLY DO. i really do wanna interact with my followers and people i follow, we’re mutuals for a reason ;;; i’m just a shy nugget and need to stop being shy and shut my attitude up.

✧   what would be your warning label to other roleplayers?  b ls .... do not rp real people. i know it happens A LOT on tumblr, especially when we use like real life fcs and A LOT in the krp fandom. but bls... do not. it’s creepy to me?? even if you tag it as “au” i?? it’s a discomfort for me. i even do deep digging on a lot of my fcs for scandals, if they are comfortable in being used and of course if they’re alive or not. don’t do that either. do NOT use and fc that has passed that’s?? rude??

✧   what is your favorite episode/scene of your muse?   oh god... thas a lot of muses really for me. i think one of my recent ones is raphael punishing belial. it’s a side no one’s seen of raphael and likely won’t ever again because that is a side he?? didn’t even know he had. i know it was a drabble but it touched something that was so raw and ugly in him that though he never regrets it, he’s not sure he’d ever touch that part of him again. and touching on similar muses, an old one of mine that i even might want to re-touch and write another drabble on is stolas finding yoo after he fell. he was bleeding, he was young and he lost his eye. he was in pain needless to say, but this demon showed him more kindness than what angels had and he took him in, took care of him and even made him a family member.

✧   what crack!ships do you have for your muse? bruv i will say it again, fuckin murDER ME with solomon and lucifer bc that’s a MESS. also is it a crack ship?? but i literally love tokiya w all the boys in starish come f IGHT ME

✧   what is your senpai blog? i don’t know?? if i really have a “senpai blog” i’ve been here forever and i’ve learned to not compare myself to others now that i’m...turning 21 in like 10 days lol. but blogs i’ve come to love and am thankful they put up w me and my stupid decisions for the past year or two?? since i made this multi wheeze. @manypcths / @mercytorn / @queensconquest / @reflectionbound / and ya, even @niopham ever since we started talking again. i still love their muses and my muses are still v much attached to them all the way from 2017

Hotaru (first draft is finished)

- Abt two men that are linked through a surgery called “synchronisation”, which basically connects their minds and bodies, so they are forced to work as a team. Ea is an ex-soldier and Cain was a hacker, but due to the fact that they can’t stand each other, they also didn’t share their pasts with each other. To pay someone to unlink them, they become bounty hunters and kidnap the girl Ai and her robot Subaru, which is one of the old military robots, called Hotarus (high technologised, operating, transforming, artificial intelligence, ranger units). They are connected to a human ranger and can transform into what the ranger wants them to transform into.

The Hotaru headquarters exploded 10 years ago and since then the Hotarus are super rare on the black market.

The two men plan on selling both the girl and her robot and let’s just say it all doesn’t work out that well.

The day the world turned white ( first draft is finished, working on it)

To stop global warming some scientists basically caused a new ice age. On the long run this might be very effective but the former countries, now sectors, are hit by strong ice storms, called snow white. To stay safe huge bunkers, the Safe Cities, were built and the local fauna and flora were stored in Arks, to preserve them.

Usually an alarm sounds before all citizens are brought into the SCs, but this time Reese and her best friend Yuki dont manage to get to the vehicles on time and are left behind. They seek shelter in a private bunker outside of town that Yuki found out about recently. Suddenly a group of boys their age knocks on the door, because they were also left behind and followed the girls.

Al, the brothers Eli and Isaac, Gil and Henry become the new bunker-mates and the group has to survive one year in the bunker, until the storm is over.

About a group of rebels, the Sun Children, that are sworn enemies to the government and its ways to cope with Snow White.

Lucy and Aidan are kicked out of an underground organisation that stays in the cities underground system during the storm phases and the two wander around in the snow until Michael and Rin pick them up and bring them to the Sun Children. From looking into the snow directly to maneuver, Lucy has turned snowblind.

A story abt a clan of shapeshifters, called Indigos. They are basically human that can shift into dolphins and their clan lives on an island near Australia. Its a modern story and the gang consisting of our local gay dolphin girl Keerie, her cousins Akash and Arjuun (younger brother, older sis), and Ky ( adopted as a child, japanese heritage, a different breed of dolphin idk) lives their “normal lives” with lots of shenenigans and drama.

Some day Keerie falls in love with Navy, the daughter of the owner of the local Aquapark (that the clan suspect also does illegal stuff like snatching wild animals).

The script for a shortfilm i once made with my friends. A school class has a plane crash and only a few students survive, they all embody a different character archetype (the sunshine, the soziopath, the smart one etc.) They try to survive and are put through weird psychological mind experiments like the trolley problem.

To be honest, the concept had and still has a lot of potential and we just hadn’t the opportunities to rly set it the way we anticipated. The shooting day was super fun, though! Still laughing about the outtakes

Astral Chronicles (some art and a few chapters, unfinished)

A story Idea i still like but probably wont write like this because of copyright problems. Its basically a giant Crossover.

Its abt people who have an Astral( mostly a literature figure) they embody when they are dreaming. Their body stays in bed and is vulnerable but the Astral can basivally run around and has special powers. If the Astral dies, the person wakes up but i think when the body dies the person dies too? idk.

The Protagonist embodies Alice and there are also the White Rabbit, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell usw.

There was also some kind of conflict? I dont remember.

If i would ever rewrite it the Astrals would be embodiments of the Zodiac signs.

Actually super interesting but too many charas and a too tiny will to draw action scenes or write them.

Like its based around a super popular game in huge spheres/buildings and the teams wear some anti gravity outfits and shoes and can walk on the walls and shit and can basically attack using elements/illusion/ conjure monsters idk.

And the main team had an opponent team that basically specialized in the 25272 other elements and some day they just fused teams idk.

There also was some prophecy shit abt the anchors, ppl that can control all elements the same???? Idk
