so i just noticed that charles' pins & his earring are on the wrong side in his lost & found picture

also it's really hard to see in this picture & not much better in the actual show, but i believe this is his union jack patch? which should be on the right sleeve (again, our right, his left)

now this *could* be a different outfit, but i don't think so. i can't think of any reason why it would be. it's definitely not what he died in, or even what he was wearing before he hid in the attic. edwin is wearing his normal outfit in his lost & found photo as well (although interestingly not with his brown coat over it. i can't tell if charles is wearing both of his jackets or not though. he's definitely got the black one on, both bc of the pins & bc his shoulders never look that square without it)

(the stripes on the collar are weird too but the design changes several times over the course of the show so i'm ignoring it. his normal red shirt has one stripe, the darker maroon one has two, and the black one doesn't have any as far as i can tell)

i don't have pictures of this one but i believe the buttons on edwin's suit jacket (? idk what it's actually called) are on the wrong side in his lost & found picture as well. that's basically the only part of his outfit that's asymmetrical though (other than a pocket that's next to impossible to make out normally, much less in an extremely grainy photo) so i don't see much point in analyzing it

tldr: if you're like me & you've been wondering why the pictures of the boys in the lost & found department look Weird (beyond the actual quality of the photos), it's because they're flipped!!

the reasons i think these pictures are reflections, specifically, are that:

1. they're flipped, as i just went through

2. ghosts don't have reflections

now i have a tentative theory:

these pictures are from the lost & found department. they're the pictures/reflections of lost (child) spirits; spirits that aren't in a designated afterlife, aka ghosts still on earth

charles & edwin both have reflections in hell (a separate plane from earth)

it seems like they get their reflections back just from being in any afterlife? charles hasn't gotten his afterlife assignment yet, but still has a reflection in hell, which to me implies that he's not considered a 'lost' soul while he's there, even if that's not where he's actually supposed to end up. i'm definitely open to other interpretations on this though.

i also feel like there's some connection between this & ghosts being able to travel through mirrors, but i'm blanking on what exactly that could mean

I want to start adding text descriptions to stuff i reblog, do you have any advice? is there a guide or something you use, the style of your IDs is very nice.

hey! thats great that you want to start writing IDs. I've reblogged guides before and ill tag this post with the tag they're in (image descriptions) so its easy to browse!

in addition to those other resources, here's some guidelines i personally keep in mind, & what i structure different IDs like.

for text transcripts: source & type of image, author, date if possible. here are some pretend/template IDs:

ID. a twitter screenshot from user @.[username] dated [date] that reads: "[tweet]." End ID.

i put the period after the @ symbol so it doesnt try to tag a nonexistent (or unrelated) user on this site, and a screenreader will just pause there briefly.

ID. a photo of a page from the book [name] by [author]. text reads: [transcript]. End ID.

if the OP cited the author/book/source, you can just do "Transcript: [text]. End transcript."

for actual images:

type of image is really important!

photograph, edited photograph, reaction image, edited reaction image, painting, digital painting, digital drawing, etc. you should always put what kind of image it is.

keep in mind the purpose of the image!

if its an art piece or a photo of one, its good to describe the medium, style, colors, and subject.

if it's a reaction image or other meme, you don't have to describe the surroundings in loving detail. the "point" of the image is enough.

if its a photograph, it might also be an art piece, or from the news, or someone sharing their pet. the amount and kind of detail again depends on the point of the image.

don't make judgements or assumptions!

dont describe things as badly drawn or badly photographed- and on the flip side, dont describe things as cute or beautiful. describe whats in the image, not how it makes you feel. if you love a certain part of how a photograph is framed, or how the light is painted in a piece of art, say that specifically. "beautiful" means nothing! do you mean realistic? vibrantly colored? "cute" means nothing! do you mean in a cartoony style? or that the subject matter is a cat, which many people find cute? be specific!

dont make statements about the gender or race of the people in the photo or art piece, especially if it's real people (like a news photo) unless you know those things as a fact (celebrities, fictional characters, people you know personally, people where it is mentioned in the article the photo is from). you can just describe things like hair length, skin tone, etc. exceptions to this rule imo are stock photos- eg if im captioning my favorite stock photo of all time, cyber woman with corn, i am going to describe it as "a stock photo of a white woman in a futuristic silver and black wraparound visor, wearing a silver bodysuit and cradling an ear of corn near her face and smiling slightly."

here are some example descriptions, all from images i have on my phone.

ID. a photo of two cats laying head to head on someones outstretched legs, which are under a blanket. one cat is an orange tabby, and the other is a gray and white splotched tabby. End ID.

the point of this image is my cats- im not going to spend time describing the blanket, the couch, the stuff you can see in the background, bc it's not relevant to the image, and adds nothing.

ID. a photo taken through a rainy window at twilight, with the camera focused on the raindrops on the glass, so the lights in the houses across the street are out of focus. the lights reflect on the wet pavement in a warm yellow glow. End ID.

i took this the other night bc i thought it looked cool how blurry it was- id consider this more of an "art" photo, so im describing the aspects of the framing etc that make it that- i wasnt just trying to show how rainy it was, but to take a photo in an interesting way, so those traits are "worth" describing.

ID. a photo of an acrylic painting done on a cardboard packing envelope of a city street at sunset, all the building windows reflecting gold. there are purple fluffy clouds in the sky, lit from below with peach and gold. the USPS tracking number barcode is still visible in the gap between houses at the end of the street. the brush strokes are very visible, the perspective is wonky, and the orange underpainting is visible at the edges. End ID.

this is a new ID for something i painted and already posted and i dont feel like getting the old ID. medium, style, and specific details i think are important are included. the perspective being wonky is a bit of a value judgement i wouldn't make about Other people's art, but it's my own and i think its an important detail so!

ID. an edited catcrumb comic, showing a simple mspaint illustration of a cat happily sorting things into piles with the caption, "sort sort. i love to arbitrarily sort." the cat has been colored in gray and its ears have been colored like homestuck troll horns, and the sorting piles replaced with some classpect symbols. End ID.

this is a good example of a edited image- its important to give (to some degree) a sense of what the original image was, say that its edited, and describe the changes. i dont need to list the classpect symbols i put on there, bc its not relevant to the message of the image- it would do nothing but make the ID longer.

Also, let's unite in being anti-chest-monster, I very quickly realised how overwhelming digging through chests of junk can be for me, it just sucks the enjoyment right out of the game. I've been looking into building some sort of a redstone sorting system, cuz I discovered I really like redstone, but I don't think I'm on that level yet haha

But I love exploring, flying around, collecting pretty blocks, and orgainising everything into neat stacks (that last one scratches my autism brain pfftttt), so it's only a matter of time before I attempt a storage system like that

And I must unfortunately dissappoint you, for I have no real rhyme or reason when it comes to planning my builds 😅

Ideas and block combos just usually pop into my head, and then I try them out straight in the survival world. I sometimes mess up, change blocks, remove things, so it's not an efficient way to do things, but it does work for me. Plus I've noticed I'm kinda like Etho, my houses are mostly just interior lmaoooo. It's usually a hot mess of things I thought are cool at a time, and a consistent building style is something I lack xd. For example, my island is decorated with moss, spruce leaves, ferns, a fire pit, etc. (cabin in the woods vibes), my fields and animal pen are on interconnected artificial islands on my lake, my potion lab is in a basement I dug under said island and I made it with blackstone and a lot of the nether warped stems (evil scientist style), and the house I made is on top of a... futuristic tree I made from glass and leaves, and said house in itself looks like a Rich Person Seaside Mansion, and it's in white and blue

I supppose this is a real representation of my brain xdd

Also, I'm the person who makes farms for communal use, I was sleeping under the sky for SO LONG, cuz I made a gunpowder farm for my friends, an xp enderman one, now I wanna build a gold one in the nether, and I'm wrangling villagers into a trading hall rn (they are a nightmareeeee xddd)

Oh gods redstone scares the crap out of me, i feel like i definitely fall on the builder side of things rather than being a more technical player-- but then i also havent messed with it much yet, so maybe i will surprise myself!!! Tbh out of all my friends i am the person with the most Planning Brain. Cannot do a single thing on the fly it Must be scheduled, hopefully about three business days in advance at least /hj 😂😂😂😂 this apparently applies to minecraft in that i will open CSP and meticulously edit a screenshot to reflect what i want the area to look like, then meticulously plan a build outline, then carefully mull over multiple ideas for the block palette, then go BACK into the creative world to double check ive got the right measurements from the outline before ever setting foot back in my survival world 💀💀💀

So Jason did an interview and spoke about how Hank is trying to be by Hailey’s side and look after her bc of everything Hailey is going through with Halstead even though she’s keeps saying “I’m fine” etc. He says he hopes it comes off as sweet and heart wrenching in a way. What are your thoughts on that? Do you think she hasn’t divorced Jay yet and Hank pushed her to do that? I am going to start with thanks for actually sending me the link. I didn't want to answer it because I hadn't read the interview, but because you sent it I read it!

I definitely have some suspicions on what I think is going to happen, but they're just theories. Aside from a very nondescript 30 second preview, some not very telling promo photos, and some cagey interviews, we don't have much to go on.

The show has always had Honky at the center of it, so it really isn't surprising to have him "be there" for Hailey. It also in theory, makes sense for him to be a constant and source for Hailey as she figures out her next steps. My issue with all of that is though, they haven't really tried to develop Honky and have him grow as a character. He's morally ambiguous, only having a sense of right or wrong that reflects what is in his best interest. Everyone else pay's for Honky's consequences. If they had developed him more consistently over the past decade rather than a constant source of trauma, him being a guiding character for Hailey would make much more sense. I get what the writers are trying to do, but it just isn't it for me. And at the same time, they have really isolated the characters from one another, so they all seem to just sort of suffer in silence alone. Which is sad, it shouldn't be the case. They've really lost the family feel to me in an overall sense.

yeah the NA writers definitely owe us all an explanation for that mess and the cowardly way that they promised joy (!!!) and gave only misery for an entire season and have now dipped rather than answer for it is awful.

they really can't say they haven't misled us all season bc ever since 4x22 aired a lot of people have looked back at what the writers and the showrunner have said in interviews all season long and they were always saying that the things they put sharpwin through would pay off in the end and that they were IT for each other and the tagline of the season was "love heals" but where??? when?? I think they meant "love makes you miserable" or something like that. and also all the interviews hinting at what the finale had in store for them made us think that the wedding was gonna happen (bc duh of course we would think that, especially when they said 4x22 would reflect 4x01 and the season opener was called "more joy" and max said that's what he wanted and what he was choosing. they also kept saying that sharpwin were sent on a clear trajectory from 4x01 if I remember correctly and that they had the ending of the season in mind since the first ep of s4??? I can't believe that's what they really had in mind bc otherwise why put sharpwin through hell all season and make them make this big change in their lives (london) and have them get engaged and talking about having a baby together (when that's something helen has always wanted, it's been part of her character arc since the beginning of the show) etc etc.

and just to think about their development since the beginning of the show, 4x22 and its ending just feel like... all of this, for THAT? what was the point then?

I hate how they prioritized making a shocking cliffhanger over writing a storyline that makes sense. even the characters' choices in this episode made them look stupid and not at all like the characters we fell in love with.

writers need to STOP putting their ships through hell just bc they think that once they get together they'll get boring bc they don't have new challenges, when there are plenty of ways to give them challenges while at the same time still giving them joy, character growth and compelling storylines.

the new amsterdam writers have straight up lied to our faces all season and I will never ever forgive them for that (like when a fan asked one of the producers a few weeks ago if there had been a time jump between 4x18 and 4x19 for helen to speak perfectly again, and he answered, and I quote, "we didn’t want to make her (or you all) suffer that badly. more joy, remember?" and then in the finale what happened? helen is distraught at the end of the episode bc something terrible happened to her and she can't go to her own wedding, and there is NO joy for anyone especially sharpwin)

I will keep watching the show if sharpwin isn't completely ruined bc I love them too much but I won't trust the writers' words ever again, or trust them to give the characters good storylines bc 4x22 felt like the biggest betrayal

I also hate the way they made helen look like the villain when there's a reason she couldn't go, a reason they could've given us, it would've still counted as a cliffhanger if it had just been a few words like "something happened with my mum" or something like that. ANYWAY I'll stop now bc this post is a mess and not structured at all bc I suck at it and also mostly bc I have so much to say about this whole situation and I'm still so upset and I just need answers but I don't think the writers will explain themselves bc it looks like they're proud of what they've done and don't feel like they've done anything wrong.

Songs you associate with c!Technoblade?

I actually don't have much tbh like idk if it's just my taste but I can't really think of any songs I listen to that I associate with Technoblade In General (there are several that I associate bc they're in playlist narratives or they fit to specific things, but nothing that I can think of, like, in isolation as a Technoblade Song. Like there's a difference between a song I'd put on a narrative playlist for a character and a character song, yk?). It's odd bc I absolutely have blorbo from my shows disease but like it's gotta have something there and Technoblade is a very particular vibe that isn't really captured in most songs, including even songs ostensibly about him

Like I can't emphasize enough Fansongs About Techno don't always sound particularly Technocore to me in the way that I'd put them in a shitty unsorted YouTube playlist to peruse when I'm thinking like I have for Ranboo or for O5ver. Even fansongs I like and that I think are good fansongs, like The Blade by Thee Unknown (who also wrote the actual best Ranboo fansong that exists, Forget); The Blade is a SOLID song but it captures the mythical Technoblade much more than it does, yk, Technoblade, but idk what I would even look for regarding Technoblade songs in those qualities

Like w/ Ranboo songs I can name some traits that I kind of Look For w/ including like. Sounding dark or empty or frantic a lot of the time, some of that monotony, and even some specific musical qualities like Sleepwalk is a really good example for a song that Sounds Like Him, and the Old Secret/Dance of Thorns mashup is literally a fanmade mashup of two instrumentals from a completely different context but it Sounds Like Him, and I've gone on record he's a waltz music kind of guy, and I'm honestly kind of unsure what I would look for in terms of those qualities regarding Techno. I've also struggled with this while songwriting for him like I feel like there is a sell that exists somewhere in the musicality of the song and I just cannot pin down what it would be and I have these lyrics but the melody I have for them Just Sounds Wrong (and also I can't songwrite)

I suppose it'd be related to the stuff I talked abt in the CG5 song post? Woe to the People of Order by the Shiny Snivy and Injustice (the CG5 song) are kind of the only songs I can listen to and think Ah Yes Technoblade, and they're on kind of different ends of the scale

I think it's very much to do with like. The way they portray intensity? When I think about both Woe and Injustice and why both of them feel Technoblade-esque while The Blade doesn't it's always abt. The way they portray the intensity Techno brings to the table. Bc he does, and honestly, thinking about it, I think the particular intensity Technoblade carries and how he interacts with it and why it comes out and where is really core to Technoblade like, mechanically as a character. And both Woe and Injustice have that core without really that reveling? Like Woe being so solemn and ordered and formally phrased Immediately places you in This Is A Reflective Monologue mode. This is going to be about pain and contention. But even in the Mizz Fish cover which gets much more intense and (hang on I'm crying about Woe again) Produced:tm: at the end, the song never like... I CANNOT EVEN DESCRIBE IT but it maintains the way it handles its intensity throughout that feels a Lot like a Technomonologue in a way I think many things Fail To? Like it doesn't feel like genuine revelry it doesn't feel like mad divine rage it feels like. It feels like Hurt. Conscious and spiteful and lamenting but keeping-composed Hurt which I think is how little accompaniment there is to the whole thing

Both it and the Shiny Snivy original have no instrumental accompaniment, and the only things they do have are vocal harmonies that aren't vocal harmony sections they're single other vocal lines that harmonize and that's all there is to produce/fill it out; there's also Effects such as howling wind in the background which in conjunction w/ the name imply that this is like. Close to being diegetic like this is Very close to just straight up being sung in universe and it makes it feel much more personal and makes the order feel more personal and intentional which works with Techno's own attempt to maintain composure and calm when he's clearly upset in a lot of his monologues especially like yes he yells but he still does the Technoblade vc It's fine. I'm calm (VO: he was not calm) thing more often than not and this just works as gesturing to that

I go into how Injustice handles this in the post I linked earlier but to go further it doesn't

IT'S AS A CONSEQUENCE

IT'S AS A DIRECT CONSEQUENCE BOTH OF THEM HANDLE THE INTENSITY AS SOMETHING HE HAS TO TAKE ON IN SOME SENSES AS SOMETHING THAT IS A CONSEQUENCE OF HOW HE INTERACTS RATHER THAN SOMETHING HE SEEKS I'VE CRACKED THE FUCKING CODE. Neither Woe nor Injustice are apologetically regretful about the violence or consider it uncalled for but it is a perceived-necessary and responsive measure ("blood is the only way" "still my withering heart/Yearns for peace and mercy" "injustice I'll repay" and the ENTIRE PREMISE of Woe to the People of Order of it being A Response) that's it that's the thing that's all of it. That's the key that's the It's Not Revelry Or Rage it's RESPONSIVE. Technoblade's More Serious moments are RESPONSIVE it's not his default or casual state and both of them musically and lyrically Show This

TL;DR: - Techno songs are particularly hard to find or write for reasons I can't pinpoint - The best guess I have, based on the two fansongs I think unequivocally work, is about how they maintain a very particular handling of intensity that frames it as responsive rather than as a goal or a default state - Those two songs are Injustice and Woe to the People of Order and I don't really have anything more to offer I'm sorry :(

loving those gifs and animations! dude, the -d e t a i l s- on his hands! and the beauty mark below the eye! and Rosie has it too ;_; you know, I really appreciate that Ethan is not manly man square jawed bearded broad shouldered bulky man (not that they can't look like that, but re has a lot of those bc they're all military), but has softer features (and long eyelashes, have you seen those? i'm jelly) like he really reflects the 'I'm an everyday guy working with computers pls let me go pay my taxes'. also also it REALLY looks like those steps are his last, the trembling on his knees showing the pained effort he's putting into getting one foot in front of the other trying not to lose his balance ahh (whump heart is content)

There's so much detail, and some of it I didn't even show! Like if you go super close to his hoodie, you actually see the freaking knitting pattern! Same with the (barely even visible under normal circumstances) t-shirt he wears inside the hoodie! I'll have to take a screenshot from that as well, because I am just amazed with the amount of effort they put into it.

And yeah, I think his face reflects his entire existence in the game, it doesn't have to be rough and tough and badass... He's a normal dude without something particularly special about him... And honestly that makes him more relatable, easier to attach to, and way less intimidating than other protagonists. With many other games, most of the time I'm like "Oh Big Protagonist Time" and I can't really feel like I'm going through this with them. Badass protagonists work as characters in the way of like, a fantasy, where we imagine ourselves being as badass and awesome as they are. I know the game developers have said that we're supposed to step into Ethan's shoes, but for me it's way more of being next to him in all of this. It's not "imagining myself as this badass character" it's "I am experiencing this and this random dude with guns is by my side". Probably because Ethan, being a normal dude who didn't ask for this, I feel that he'd need a companion for at least emotional support. Well, I'd be that for him 😆

And yeah his face just... Looks so everyday-like, as you said, I can imagine him as he is going off to pay his taxes, not slaughter an entire village full of bioweapons. And I find that fantastic. They've done an amazing job with Ethan.

Those lashes... I was about to comment of them. I'm so jealous of them too. So pretty 😍

This animation is definitely from his last moments. I think it's when he's crossing the bridge back to the Megamycete, right before we see from his pov again. There's that tiny moment of staggering, where he quickly puts his right foot in front because he looks ready to fall, and I feel like his entire body reacts to it. Like, that instinctive reaction where your hands jerk in front of you, to protect your body and soften the fall in case you drop? But his hands in that moment... one has almost completely crumbled to dust, the other has only three fingers and is even holding the detonator. It feels like his arms are going for the movement to soften his fall, but his hands are not in the position to do so so his legs have to do the job... Ohhh it's so fucking GOOD and I'm SO FREAKING HAPPY we get the chance to actually see this! Whump need satisfied indeed!!
