Gave him a durag because I was too tired for hair and it looks like his bandana. Sue me ig. Also, I HATTTEEEEEE rendering silkier fabrics, I shoulda just left it flat colours (or drawn hair instead of being lazy lol). The durag usually is tied up in a big ol’ bow because he’s a sap (and everyone knows). Sometimes it’s not tho bc practicality (also I forgot but shushshhhh)

I gave him ripped sleeves and a hooded jumper to mimic the bulkiness and jaggedness of his shell, but I tucked it in because ultimately, he is square. Rounded square, but square.

He’s probably got the most yellow undertones of all his brothers, mostly because if I gave him a red undertone it’d just be so much, and I needed to break up the colour pallet somehow.

His shoes say boss and hoss on them respectively, because that's the exact kinda dumb funny l am tbh. Also, I really wanted to do just... massive bulky shoes but I can't draw shoes AUGGHHHHJHGHVDGH. I just gave him whatever the RotTMNT equivalent of converse is (foot shack probs made something).

He still has his wraps (mostly because his arms look weirdly blank without them). ALSO a binder bc transmasc Raph makes me happy (ik a lot of people headcanon him as transfem but this is my design. I can do what I want.)

I gave him a little bandage under his binder tbh he has a bandage on his shell lol

His jeans are super ripped bc he keeps doing stupid stuff (like falling off of waterfalls or martyring himself to save Leo of all people) and it damages them.

I modified the jacket he has in clothes don’t make the turtle to be spikier bc, once again, I wanted to mimic the bulkiness and jaggedness of his shell.

Ghost bear merch because even tho GB is kinda a jerk, Raphadoodle still loves him! It's like how Mikey still kinda admires Swaggart. Speaking of Mikey, the bracelets were made by Mikey - one for sunset duo, one for the Mad Dogs.

i don’t have anything to say about yara. asha is an actually strong character with interesting things to say narratively not only about gender and power, but culture and family as well. yara isn’t just a typical Strong Female Character, she’s an snl parody of a Strong Female Character

and they just yada yada the whole ending of the iron islands plot!!!! oh so theon finally pulls it together and Does Violence in a way his sister approves of then dips?

it’s crazy i think you could have brought in the euron csa stuff easily enough, and done something interesting there even if they were DEDICATED to scrubbing the magic from this plot, when they get attacked by the iron fleet & theon starts freaking out and leaves asha behind. and then they don’t. whack.

there’s so much radicalized misogyny here, and yes that still exists in the books with arianne but at the end of the day, arianne is a woman who makes internal sense as a character and external sense for the setting, and has a deep and moving relationship with her father, and a story arc about being his heir that is so much deeper than whatever the fuck is going on with ellaria and tyene and the doran murder.

they all exist to do brutality to women and children, and then get brutally murdered by white folks, just like elia. okay. well that fucjing sucked.

the reach

probably the best handled storyline is the tyrell’s and i think that says it all about their priorities here. they should have just adapted some philippa gregory books and left george alone 😭

margaery & olenna are easily the best written female characters in the show, bc they are more or less consistent. sansa & arya both take very weird and uncomfortable turns, & cersei’s writing drops off a cliff, but these two stay complicated, ambitious women who above all, love each other (& loras) very much.

when you think about them in the context of the book, i think they do the same things even if they’re different as characters, so they also stand as decent adaptations. but again. i think the tyrell’s are the easiest characters to adapt because they exist to be reflections of the pov characters interacting with them.

can u imagine being more homophobic in 2011-2018 than george in the 90s with how they adapted Loras. that man is terrified of anal and loras is still treated with so much more respect as a character.

let me touch on it here, i think the fight in the reach is goofy. i think they thought “we know the reach gets fucked in the books, let’s just have dany do it since she’ll be in the area.” i also think it is so clearly the main reason why everyone in king’s landing is unwilling to give dany a chance but they half ass her writing here Soooooooo badly.

the stannis & shireen relationship WAS interesting, tbh i really liked that they take advantage of not being stuck in davos’ head and didn’t just make stannis a girldad. but the actual burning scene was really high on trauma porn and very low on making sense.

davos remains fairly consistent throughout the show, even tho once again, what he is doing is less interesting than what is in the books. but he feels like the same person, just in a different world, really.

yeah i’m sorry i now think it’s 10 times goofier for people to have been this shocked about her ending as if it wasn’t loudly broadcasted what was gonna happen.

i don’t like her being stabbed by jon any more than anyone else but i think it was clear she was always going to clash with the starks and the north, and that they were planning for her to burn kl & die in the show since as early as season two. i think they were undecided until they talked to george about what his endgame was, but it was obviously one of the endings they were working towards.

cannot overstate enough that part of her rationale for going to the unsullied rather than someone else is because the unsullied can be commanded not to sack a city, and will not rape. she nevertheless explicitly instructs them to sack every city she uses them to take.

the north

the long night was dumb. it was like two days. you saw it get darker during the daytime a little bit, and then it was that long battle. i understand that they are lazy and hate lighting their shots and filming to make it look like it’s nighttime constantly would be tricky but well. it’s called the long night.

i think bella ramsay was too good for this script and that’s why lyanna caught on as a character. she, and all the northern lords, are so flat.

sansa flips into a different character in s4, but arya flips into a different character in s7 so honestly, i think they’re both even. i will say i think the character sansa flips into is Different but at least similar, you can see the thread between them, whereas arya is just fully feels different as a character before and after the frey pies.

DEMON LORD Aubry Padeira, goofy little creature. A necromancer with a skeleton army at his command, he single-handedly guards an entire third of the border between the country where he was born and its neighbor. Dragged into a position of power as a preteen, his magical prowess has since grown exponentially, and none dare enter his territory for fear of death and subsequent (possibly eternal) enslavement.

In reality, Aubry is a little bit broken from nearly a decade of isolation, living in a fortress by himself with no companions save for the living dead, which usually don't have much personality, considering, well... You know. If he can raise a body soon enough, the remnants of the person's soul can cling to the remains, thus giving him a few companions with some personality; however, this doesn't happen often, considering the bloody nature in which war casualties are brought to his domain, and how unwilling most are to linger in the realm of the living. Out of thousands, only three have retained any semblance of their former selves, and he keeps these three close -- safely out of harm's way.

About one year prior to his introduction to the rest of the cast, he did find a living person in the piles of flesh and bone that his cleaning crew had gathered, and subsequently adopted them as his most trusted and only living companion. This person, Anixa Anatheus, soon became Aubry's good friend, as well as his knight -- the only one sworn to the ALL-POWERFUL DEMON LORD's cause.

Aubry has slowly been falling in love with his knight as the months have passed. His feelings have grown so strong that he will not hesitate to unleash whatever hell he can summon to defend the object of his affections -- though, that might not be necessary, considering the magical armor he has bestowed upon Anixa is pretty much impervious to most forms of damage.

A bit haughty and theatrical, Aubry speaks and acts like a drama club kid who got lost on a deserted island with nothing but a bunch of scripts and all the time in the world to memorize them. He is outwardly confident -- and inwardly, too, at least until his domain is stormed by a small crew capable of dismantling his magics. Anixa finds him endearing, and is also fiercely loyal in return, which sort of shocks the protagonists bc... lol. Who is this shrimpy little guy and why is he yelling so much. Why are you following him around, demon knight person?

Aubry is a cambion-folven, which are considered Old World Folven by those who which to classify such things. (And folven are a race of humanoid creatures with varying degrees of non-human traits, from ears and tails to fangs or legless, snakelike bodies, of which there are hundreds, perhaps even thousands of subspecies. In simpler terms, it is a catch-all term for those who are neither Human nor Dragon.) As such, the magic used by cambions retains a lot of properties not governed by the elemental founts, long before humans first appeared in the world. They have the power to manipulate emotions through both magical and hormonal means, whether they're attempting to charm their way into a discount or strike fear into potential enemies as a defense mechanism.

Aubry's powers of necromancy are defined by his affinity to the chroma element, like all modern folven, though it is greatly enhanced by his ability to control another's "willpower".

Though I did not feel like drawing it up there, Aubry generally keeps his tail covered in a series of ribbons once he begins traveling with the group. To touch a cambion's tail is to fall under their spell, whether they want you to or not. And Aubry definitely does not want these idiots dumbing themselves down any further (or, at least, that's the excuse he uses. In actuality, he's quite embarrassed by it. People say some real embarrassing things when they're charmed - and there is also the matter of Anixa accidentally brushing against it and proclaiming love undying, which, as much as it would thrill him, is not something he wants to hear from someone under the influence of his powers.).

Aubry's wings are fun. They're comically shaped much in the manner you'd imagine a cartoon demon's would be, similar to a bat wing, but much smaller in proportion to his body than, say, an avie-folven. They are pitch black and don't seem to reflect much light, so they appear devoid of detail, despite the fact that there ARE bones in there. He also has the silly little devil tail (drawn disproportionately long here, for the sillies), lending more to the "demon" aspects of his design. Atop his head are two large, almost-heart-shaped bat ears - delightfully fuzzy and adorable, but also appearing almost like horns if you don't look closely enough.

He's short and stocky, coming in at the ballpark of 5'4" (~160cm). He disguises this as best he can by wearing chunky platform boots and heavy robes, preferring to keep himself obscured from those who would pet his head and say "Aw, you're just a little guy, aren't ya?" because then he'd have to get SERIOUS and show them that "I REALLY AM CALLED THE DEMON LORD!! IT'S AN OFFICIAL TITLE!!"

The tacky waist sash was a gift from Anixa, who is very fond of garish, brightly-patterned clothes. It's one of Aubry's few treasures.

Thank you so much for this ask!! I have a lot of headcanons for these two but after writing close to 150k words for this fic I'm not sure there are many I haven’t shared 😅 But there's a few that come to mind (mostly fluffy bc I love them):

- Every year Achilles makes a cake for Patroclus’s birthday. Every year, he fucks it up somehow. Either the frosting isn't right, or it doesn't cook all the way, or it deflates, or he forgets to get one ingredient or other. He has many talents but baking isn't one of them 🤣 And it's almost become kind of a tradition now so Achilles is always looking forward to Patroclus' reaction when he presents him his little fucked up cake. 

- They once tried to build a boat/raft from scraps and bits of wood they found in the garage and the fields. They started the project because a)they were bored, and b) Ajax told them that the Spercheios river goes all the way down to Athens (it doesn't). It took them two weeks to finish it and gather provisions etc for their voyage. They took it to the creek. It sank. Achilles cried for hours. It was wild

- I think this is obvious from the fic but as well as they get on with each other they do bicker quite a lot. Achilles can be deeply annoying and/or set in his ways, and Patroclus is also stubborn, in his own way. He is sometimes hesitant to try new things or might get a little sad and withdrawn or completely tune Achilles out, and Achilles just wants to shake him LOL. Also growing up Patroclus had to sometimes act as Achilles' impulse control, like "no we can't set this random pile of dried leaves by the side of the road on fire" or "no we won't ride to the beach at 3am on a winter Tuesday, we have class tomorrow" etc etc, but more often than not he is following Achilles in whatever dumb thing he's made up his mind to do, and then they bicker when it all goes south instead 🙃

- While they were in Phthia, they actually slept together almost every night whenever Peleus wasn't home. It wasn't romantic or anything at first, they just spent so much time together and in each other’s rooms that it didn't make sense to separate for sleep. Or sometimes they'd just fall asleep while talking/reading/watching films etc. Also like, with no parents or other caretakers in sight they were essentially each other’s source of comfort and affection and sometimes you just want to cuddle up with your bestie under a blanket and not do much else. ALSO also this isn't surprising bc the story deals quite a bit with toxic masculinity and internalised homophobia and how that affects Pat and Achilles, but I have a lot of thoughts about how the pressure to "man up" and "be tough" as they grew up really started to wear on them (especially Achilles), bc like what's wrong with crying or showing emotion or hugging your best friend or holding his hand or kissing him on the cheek! What's wrong with being soft and tender with the people you care about, what's wrong with any of it. So being able to come back home and have their safe space to vent and cry and be goofy and cuddle and not have to act a certain way around each other was such a lifesaver for them.

[Also I think their physical intimacy is something that's universal across every possible iteration of Patrochilles out there lol they're just super comfortable touching and hugging and kissing etc and I simply love how it might not even have sexual connotations a lot of the time, it's just something they do. They just like to glomp]

- I think this has been mentioned in the fic at some point, but Achilles often composes incredibly silly songs on the guitar or changes the lyrics to popular songs to tease Patroclus and Laika with. Often extremely early in the morning.

- Achilles has taught himself to knit and crochet as a result of a past hyperfixation over the span of a summer. The bright orange scarf he wears in Chapter 20 is one of his own creations, and Patroclus literally loves that thing. He teases him about it all the time. Achilles has made a few wonky beanies and mittens for Patroclus as well while he was practicing, they're very stylish (NOT lmao)

I’ll shoot some headcanons out under the cut!! Honestly these are whatever came to my silly little brain first—

I’m not too creative with headcanons, just gonna list some of my personal ones that are pretty consistent through the fandom and some other ones!! Including some side characters too bc I can’t control myself

-I reckon max would work somewhere like a record store for extra money, even if goofy tries to insist that he will give him money for anything he needs. But max insists he needs to make his own income, thank you very much

-Bradley meanwhile has never had a job, and probably will never need to. However, he used to be dragged along to his dad’s office, and his dad used to make him do things, like print things and collect coffees for people, so he’s surprisingly nice to service workers

-I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Bradley is definitely an only child. Everything about him reeks of being an only child with a difficult home life. No one cares that much about winning without an intense pressure on his shoulders.

-to the same credit, Bradley desperately craves attention, no matter what kind it is. His parents were neglectful, and he needed to do crazier and crazier stuff to earn their love

-I love to think of Bradley having an uncle; who’s not rich, who chose a sweeter side of life over the money, and he has two daughters, Bradley’s nieces, who Bradley tries desperately not to be envious of.

-as fun as tutor Bradley is, I think Max is super smart, I think he’s one of those people who skate by above average without studying which infuriates Bradley to no end bc he doesn’t seem like he tries at all

-that doesn’t stop Max from asking Bradley increasingly dumb questions just to see him ramble about ‘how can he not know that’,

-he pierced Bobby’s ears while they were high lol

-I think Bradley’s mom seems like she’s trying her best, and she wanted to be a mother, but she always takes her husbands side, and is extremely manipulative, which is sometimes worse

-Bradleys family is catholic, and he had to unpack a lot of his religious trauma, but he still whispers prayers under his breath all the time when he’s stressed

-Bradley’s super into Korean skincare lol

-Bradley honestly needs glasses, has them, but fucking hates wearing them because it makes him look like a ‘dweeb’

-max has a tiny powerline tattoo on his ankle he got when he was drunk lol

-I think Max is a rum and coke or beer drinker, and Bradley likes vodka mixers lol

-max got his driving skills from his dad

-Bradley meanwhile had very expensive lessons so he’s anal about road rules.

-he’s so anal about road rules that he has some of the worst road rage you’ve ever seen

-max didn’t officially come out to his dad as bi he was the kind of kid like: oh dad this is —- btw my boyfriend

-Roxanne is a lesbian lol

-she reconnects with max when they are in college and they are absolute menaces in the same space, lots of really stupid pranks

-PJ is terrified of needles and he goes to get a matching tattoo with Mocha and he faints lol

so the new battle pass talon skin was revealed and i have thoughts... im not gonna go too crazy bc i feel like ive already ranted about this so imma try and be quick.

first lets pool together all the goods.

The Bio: Grand Reckoning Talon: Talon's knife sinks beneath worn armor as his target breathes his last. He glances at the door. There are only moments to escape before guards find the Reckoner dead. Luckily, this man isn't much larger than himself, and if he is seen leaving his room “alive,” they will find the body cold—and Talon long since returned to the Assassin's Guild for payment.

The emote, titled "Threat" and the icon:

it's worth noting that it's a bp skin, NOT a 1350 epic. So it's gonna look terrible in game and has no effects like recalls or anything. Talon's model is kinda shoddy anyway so whatever lol.

Talking about the splash/skin itself, my biggest problem is that he's just too muscular. Riot has a problem with giving most male characters the same body and this is unfortunately the case here. 1000th time mentioning this but imo Talon should have more of a climber's body, which is still muscular but leaner. Free climbers/parkour pros are usually not super jacked for good reason. It doesn't benefit them.

I also take general issue with how naked he is. It feels like utter bait and kinda hamfisted. (i still haven't forgiven riot for taking away prestige high noon talon's undershirt.) They DO explain it with the bio, which I appreciate, but it still makes it seem hamfisted because the bio itself is goofy. The bio implies that the dude Talon killed happened to conveniently have a blade cape and an armblade similar to Talon's. It also says he has 'moments' to escape but he has time to take off most of his clothes (which, based on his most recent redesign, involves lots of belts and straps), hide them, put on THE RECKONER'S clothes, and THEN escape. The way the bio is worded implies that the guards are about to walk in anyway, ('--only moments to escape before guards find the Reckoner dead') but ALSO says that they could see him walking out 'alive.' It's a bio that disagrees with itself and doesn't seem very thought out, therefore to me it just comes off as goofy.

THERE IS a good tidbit of knowledge in that last line. 'And Talon long since returned to the Assassin's Guild for payment.' This will actually make me revise my talon lore in my head a little bit. We get like, no information ever on how the guilds work so it's really annoying considering them. Not even the kat comic mentioned them which is??? I wish I knew how they actually worked.

Aside from those grievances I think his splash expression is reallyyyy good but maybe i'm just a sucker for side eye. I think his outfit looks kinda dumb but i like the color of the cloak its fun seeing him in red.

The emote title is good. The emote itself is Meh. (not a fan of the way the dagger looks.) riot artists are addicted to not letting a single strand of hair be seen.

ALSO WHY ARE HIS EYES RED? I know these aren't necessarily canon (based on the red masque skins where not everyone who got a skin actually attended, but if they HAD that's what they would've looked like) but the bio really implies that it 'could have happened.' but like, WHY ARE HIS EYES RED. if we are expected to believe in the canon/possible canon-ness of it then whyyyyyy are his eyes red. it's like the final nail in the coffin for me thinking that this is just some goofy idea.

Thinking that this is talon imagining himself as a pitfighter is much funnier to me tbh, because then it explains the swoleness, the half-baked premise, and the red eyes. (talon would think red eyes are so cool.) As it stands, this skin is bait but it's funny bait so even though I think it's subjectively bad i'll still think fondly of it in the same way I do about that homeless talon skin. at least it's a BP skin so it won't count towards his skin cooldown and we might still get something better this year.

TL;DR: whole thing is goofy so i'm pretending that it's Talon's fantasy. if you like it then big!! these are just my own opinions. :]

Hi you posted about getting your wisdom teeth taken out- just wondering if I could ask a couple questions, if not feel free 2 disregard. I am terrified of anesthesia, how out of it are you upon waking? Am I going to spill my worst thoughts and secrets? I went under recently for an IUD placement but the procedure only took about 15 minutes so it was a lower dose or however that works. I reacted fine then, I cried but I remember waking up in the recovery room and everything after that and I was conscious. Is it a more intense process for the wisdom tooth surgery? I'm not sure if I've worded everything correctly bc it's a confusing thing to ask about. I am more worried about the anesthesia than any part of the recovery.

hi! sure thing, more under the cut so this doesn't become a long post on everyone's dash

tbh this was my first experience with general anaesthesia since I was a little kid, so idk how representative my experience was in general. I'm also a bit of a tank when it comes to substance tolerance, so I might have shaken it off faster than someone lighter-weight. they gave me laughing gas and IV anesthesia, the slower kind that takes ~5minutes to knock you out totally rather than the "count down from 10" type. the laughing gas did absolutely nothing to me tbqh, but I remember the IV starting to kick in ~2min after they put it in and making some groggy reference to the couch scene in Get Out cuz it felt a bit like sinking (into a pillow, not into a freaky void lol). My memory after that starts in the recovery room with the feeling like I had just lost my train of thought and like I had just been talking in a different place (I had tbh, but I still don't remember it). I definitely wouldn't describe it as "intense". I was a tiny bit disoriented, but I knew where I was and why I was there. At the time, I thought I was lucid and speaking like I was sober and the only reason it sounded goofy was the gauze in my mouth, but I was just kind of saying some goofy incoherent stuff. Really the worst thing I did was swear a lot and make some deeply stupid nonsensical puns, most of which no one could hear through the gauze anyway. I didn't bring up any topic unsolicited -- i think I was really just responding directly to whatever words I heard around me (like the nurse said something about "training" and I said "choo choo" and then explained the joke a few times). My dad was there picking me up and there are plenty of things I don't want him to know, but none of them came up or came out at all. If you're really anxious about spilling your deep dark secrets, mention that to the nurse or whomever and ask if they can help in that window where you're most "out of it", then once you're out of the building just go to sleep asap. When my sister had hers out, I drove her and she spent the whole car ride telling me she loved me and the world and everything but mostly me. it was super sweet, but not private info. a few friends told me similar things about their experiences because they knew I was nervous and didn't know what to expect, and none of them mentioned volunteering private thoughts or secrets. Honestly this has made me wonder if kids are just lightweights or if people put on a huge act for those viral videos or if they give different drugs in different areas, because today was nothing like the cartoonish loopy state I half expected. I even won a few rounds of Boggle as soon as I got home (under an hour after waking up).

TLDR it was really pretty chill. I don't think I embarrassed myself more than saying the same thing multiple times or making dumb incoherent jokes, and even 30min after regaining consciousness I felt slow and a little groggy but fully mentally there. by 90min after, I felt normal but tired. I'm typically anxious about surgery stuff, but this was a much more low-key experience than I feared. genuinely hope this helps at all :)

Once upon a time Devon was tagged in a wip wednesday by @eriquin and meant to do it but missed both wednesday and the weekend before remembering again. totally unrelated, Devon is working on getting their official adhd diagnosis.

i also noticed that the past snippets shared in wip-whatever posts have been purposefully the least interesting parts because i was worried about spoilers, which is dumb because that's created the unintended consequence of my tag is full of everything i don't like as much and a very different impression of what my fic is (as seen by most of these snippets being my rewritten scenes despite the actual fic being mostly new in-between scenes)

The Snippet

here is my favorite and most recent scene I've written, which takes place before they junkyard where Steve and Dustin are at the grocery store to get that ungodly amount of raw meat they have to toss around (also i've split chapters up a bit in the name of structure so the third chapter is now called "Mommy Issues Central". Lemme know any goofy vine reference ideas you guys have or if it should stay like that) (fear not, Get Yo Fucking Dog Bitch lives on still as chapter 4)

They turned down the next aisle, lining the edges of the cart with some other pasta-related shit that he could still probably use. They heard someone coming over from the next aisle and before he could turn the cart around Mrs Wheeler pulled up.

"Oh, Steve ...and Dustin. What're you boys up to?"

He took a short breath to work their story into something without Mike, but Dustin beat him to it.

"He's teaching me stuff." 

He was imitating the tone Steve used but still way too vague. Mrs Wheeler held up a smile, her brows slightly lifted.

"Y'know, like cooking-" Steve said, throwing in a little gesture to the cart.

"And cars, changing oil and things. Y'know just.. dad stuff."

Dustin's part convinced her, Mrs Wheeler's expression softening into a real smile.

"Well I won't keep you long," 

She nodded off to the side to talk to Steve one-on-one.

Great.

“Are you and Nancy okay?”

“Wh- we’re- Why? Did she say something?”

“No, no, she’s just been… closed off, lately. And I drove her to school the other day, she didn’t say why.”

“Sh- yeah, that- that’s on me. Sorry.”

“Did you break up?”

“No no, definitely not. We’re kinda… we’re working on it. I’m going to try and make it better, after y’know..” he gestured to Dustin behind him.

“Right.” she smiled again, “Let Nancy know she can talk to me about any of this? Please? I tell her but- I don't know, maybe it’d be different coming from you.”

He held up a smile for her.

“Yeah, sure. Mind if we..” he jutted a thumb towards the end of the aisle.

“Yes, go ahead.”

He gave her a short wave and turned back to Dustin, who studied random shit in the aisle like Steve would believe his sudden fascination with olive oil outweighed childish curiosity.

“Steve-”

He turned back around, seeing Mrs Wheeler coming back up to him and whispering again.

“I know I’m not your mother, but you can talk to me, too. Both of you, okay?”

He kept the smile in place and nodded again, and she finally went back to her cart.

Dustin “Definitely-Not-Eavesdropping” Henderson followed him out of the aisle, thankfully waiting until they were out of earshot to ask.

“What's going on with you and Nancy?”

“Thought we had ‘much bigger problems than my love life’?”

He pulled up to the deli, stopping to pretend to look at the options.

“We’re not dropping everything for it but we can still talk.” he groaned.

“I’ll tell you later, kay? Not exactly the best place to talk.''

himemiya anthy and oshino ougi are both girls who exist for guys

and yeah i hear you thinking what, misogyny ?! toxic masculinity ?! thats not a big part of ougis arc and yeah it isnt and also other gender stuff BUT. the spirit is still there!! and i have to say it in that way first to do anthy's part justice

bc they Are both people who exist solely for others sake. their ability to define their own existences have been taken away from them. they have no agency! anthy obviously but also ougi has never had agency. ougi was created by araragi to do certain things he couldn't do himself, and this was literally the sole purpose of their existence. if ur in that situation what are you gonna do? not do it? and probably like, cease to exist bc the universe's internal coding is a total asshole? you don't have a choice, you just gotta accept the burden.

they're very silly and goofy and sinister and smiley about it of course but like. i'll say it now a lot of those smiles are not happy. i mean you look at the light novels oshino "ppl are so dumb i have to laugh at them but im crying when im laughing" ougi (edgelord ougi confirmed? LOL ok ok not really) oshino 'araragi theorizes her smile was poignant bc she knew how short her life would be' ougi like yeah ok. get a life, literally. lol (note this is also. for those who have read it. what ougi stay is about. and what my next big thing is going to be about. this is what the significance. anyway)

and anthy does the same thing! all this fucked up shit happens around her and To her and she just watches it all with the same smile like nothing's wrong. the parallels are insane you guys you cant make this shit up. anthy smiling like nothing is wrong during the duels before slowly realizing she doesn't want to be separated from utena is the same as ougi smiling while about to be erased forever even though she doesnt want to die. its parallels!!!!!! even where ougi's situation gets a little muddied with her being Literally araragi (even though she is still the part of him that he ejected and pushed all this work onto and still just exists for him at first so i wouldnt say this is a point against my analysis here), it still very much applies. and that part of 'being him' can loop back around and extend anthy if you want it to. she does whatever her fiancee wants her to, is molded to and reflects them. a reflection-- is that not, in a very big sense, what ougi is for araragi? you could even say that for anthy, the fiancee of the rose bride's attempted domination of her is a way to dominate the femininity within them, to quell and control it. (if this doesnt make sense my excuse is that i havent finished watching yet. but i think it does make sense, and a lot of it, actually)

theyve both got their Roles to play, and play them they do. anthy, the rose bride, and ougi, the culprit, the bad guy. i think about that 'bad guy' framing a lot too btw. when ougi is talking about her unfazed appearance when faced with Forever Death Via Black Hole, shes like 'don't you hate it when in mystery novels the bad guy is so calm in the face of their comeuppance? yeah that sucks so just letting you know im terrified 👍. gotta wonder what happens when your matter gets erased completely yk. like whats that gotta be like lol.' (not even exaggerating at all really) (also shes so funny she relates everything to mystery novels bc she loves them thats so sweet and real i love that :)) (and then she proceeded to say 'nah i think the culprit should kill themself instead' but i wont get into it)

theyve also both got those cute little interests come to think of it. anthy loves like animals and stuff and ougi loves their mysteries. are these two the Same Character (joking) (but really they should hang out)

theres a line in one of the short stories that summarizes it really well, describing ougi as 'a puppet who had come to life.' and yeah, basically. it's implied to be after the ougi dark resolution so there i have even more ✨textual evidence✨ but like fr. its an incredibly apt description for ougi. if yotsugi is a doll, then ougi is a puppet, who has gained agency (and thats the thing, rgu and monogatari are giving these agency-robbed characters agency, thats what ougi dark did, and im like p sure thats what rgu is going to do i havent finished it lol but i did get sorta spoiled on the ending so i think its gonna. in monogatari... its more rocky i feel. its not cut and dry, its not like whoops you have agency forever completely now. its like you Kinda have it. you Maybe Mostly have it. it's complicated i'm writing about it)... i wonder when yotsugi will get her agency, but part of me wonders if nisioisins plan is that she wont. because she's a doll, she's too stuck, she's fixed to what others need her for, she can't work by herself. she hasn't "come to life" yet like ougi has (being a corpse might do that to you)

i used to volunteer as a writing tutor and briefly worked in a library before i went to college, so i was immediately intrigued when i came across your minayeon fic!!

and ohhhh my god it had me up at 4am giggling and kicking my feet 😭 im so in love with the way you write, but im also in love with the dynamics between the members you’ve created. i particularly enjoy your rendition of the j-line and their relationships with each other! as much as i love the romantic pairings (sahyo and chaeyu are SOOO CUTEEE i love that you included them) the platonic relationships are just as important to pull everything together, and i think you’ve really excelled at creating those dynamics that feel both realistic and fresh at the same time.

the way you express the dichotomy between nayeon and mina’s perspectives on everything is so well-written and amazing. i really enjoy getting to read and think more about philosophy and theory through their lenses!

side note: i’m so grateful you’ve written momo as someone with academic intelligence and depth, bc imo there are far too many people (even unknowingly via fics) pushing the narrative that momo is dumb and it kinda really hurts me every time i think about that bc its simply not true even if she can be a bit absent-minded at times (but who isnt?)

I’m glad you’re enjoying the fic so far, especially as someone who’s also been a writing tutor! At first I wasn’t sure how niche writing tutoring is, but it was such a big part of my college experience (and some of the most academically gifted—and argumentative—people I knew in college were my fellow tutors) that I just felt like this college AU had to center around it lol

And I’ve said this before on one platform or another but I really appreciate hearing that people have liked the friendship dynamics in particular—this is the first fic I’ve written with such strong emphasis on platonic pairings/trios and I wasn’t sure how it would translate! J-line here actually reflect my own roommate/best friend situation in college so it’s super close to my heart and really takes me back 🥲 (can I say that if I only graduated 3 months ago lol)

I’m so fascinated by philosophy and its intersection with language/literature (although I’m in no way well versed in either), so I’ve been using minayeon to bounce some fun ideas off of each other—thank you for letting me know that my inner ramblings-turned-dialogue actually came out ok 😭

And RETWEET on the Momo stuff, I think she’s such a compelling character to extrapolate into writing, and sometimes we get lost in her natural sense of humor and confuse some of the more goofy parts of her personality with her being “dumb,” but she’s a lot more than whatever caricature we assign to her (along with all our other RPF characters) so we might as well recognize her more holistically as an individual

I guess what I’m trying to say in this long reply is that this fic really resonates with a lot of my own college experiences, and it’s been such a pleasure to write, and I’m so grateful that you’ve enjoyed it, so thank you again for this wonderful ask! 🫶🫶

hi hello i'm not drinking bc i'm at work but i have a minute to rant about lok under the cut since it's my semi-annual rewatch and i have Thoughts

SO OKAY first thing right outta the way outta the bat. maybe this isn't a popular opinion on tumblr.com, but i still really like the legend of korra. and i think that the show got/gets a lot of undeserved hate and criticism. like ppl complaining that korra is immature or makes bad decisions or whatever is laughable. she's a teenager for most of the series!! of course she does dumb things, that's what teenagers do. i can't say i was much better at 17 lol.

there are some justifiable criticisms that i totally get behind, tho, especially on rewatches. like i'll agree to the end of my days that season 2 is reaaaaally rough. it's not very fun to watch until like the last couple episodes, mostly exacerbated by the korra/mako romance.

how the characters are treated is also kind of weird and a little disappointing. like, the most obvious comparison i can think of is sokka and bolin. both are the comic relief type characters, but i feel like sokka was treated a lot better and had more character growth. he starts as a bumbling, arrogant idiot, but as the series goes along, he gets to grow into a more mature, well rounded character. does he still make mistakes and act goofy? of course! but compare that to bolin's character, who is (and maybe i need to finish my rewatch to be sure) kind of one note throughout the whole series. he starts as a goofy, bumbling sidekick who has flashes of maturity, but then just kinda. stays that way. also toph being a cop? lol. lmao even.

i also feel like the series as a whole could've been executed better, but i'm not sure how/what's missing. i'm sure there are plenty of ppl smarter than me who have thought about this lmao. i guess in fairness, it's difficult to follow up one of the most iconic and memorable series of all time, especially since i think i remember reading/hearing that there were all kinds of issues b/w the writers and nickelodeon. that probably didn't help things much.

but it's great that lok tried new things, like a more modern setting and a very different lead character than atla, and lok touched on some interesting and dark themes. not that atla didn't touch on dark themes, of course, but i think continuing to not shy away from death, imperialism, etc. was a good thing. not to mention it was one of the few primetime cartoons at the time that featured two explicitly queer characters, even before same sex marriage was legalized in the US! that in and of itself is important!

so idk! maybe i'll follow up to this post when i actually finish my rewatch.

this isnt silly at all, don't worry! you're completely correct, he's italian american and his full name is vincenzo. so yep, that's where chenzomauro originated.
