dude I can't sleep lemme ramble for a second about talon.

I know I'm a 'talsett' guy (and always will be) but let's put aside the ship for a second like let's ignore the ship just to appreciate how CRAZY it would be from a thematic perspective for talon and sett to meet. not in a shipping way but in a literal character way.

one of the core tenants of Noxus is that Anyone can make it, you just gotta work hard and claw your way up. anyone can earn power they must simply have enough strength. and this tenant means that the unspoken rule is also true: If you don't make it, it's your fault. Or: If you fail then you deserved to.

theres a bunch of reasons (imo) that talon wants to be perfect. a lot of it is centered around the invulnerability that comes with being perfect. (if I'm perfect then I don't have to worry about being hurt.) but I think a big part of it is also the Noxian mindset. because when talon fails suddenly he deserved that, because he wasn't good enough, wasn't strong enough. and suddenly it doesn't matter how much of a 'success story' he is, being taken off the streets--because he's failed and he deserves to fail and he's practically back in the slums.

I've said this before too but because of how Talon's swallowed Noxian rhetoric hook, line, and sinker, his perspective is able to offer a BRUTAL takedown of Noxian rhetoric from the inside, if the writers dared to do it. imo out of all the noxian roster, no one is better suited for it. Not even Katarina, because she was still born into privilege versus talon who was not. like the writing potential there is INSANE for him. a literal gold mine of thematic decay.

and it's even more insane if you include sett, who is Ionian born but definitely comes off as Noxian, and who is the IDEAL NOXIAN. a literal success story, a guy who clawed himself (and his ma) from rags to riches and also HAS NEVER LOST a fight. peak Noxus. throw in the color red and the penchant for violence and ofc the sharp ears. (Noxus canonically worships the wolf) likeeeee.

once again, ignoring the ship entirely, sett and talon are almost like parallel success stories, except where one was rewarded with victory after victory, Talon's 'truly Noxian success story' ends up with him chewed up and used and still losing and he must deserve it because he wasn't good enough.

I just think that then meeting at all could be so thematically interesting, esPECIALLY for breaking Talon's worldview in half because you have the perfect Noxian who wants nothing to do with Noxus and hates it. I think the fact that Noxian ideals kinda want you to ignore is the statement that 'life isn't fair.' Noxus might lean into that but ONLY a lil bit. Like yeah life's not fair but Noxus is, and if you work hard enough then you'll succeed. 😁

Except if you're talon you will get manipulated and used like a pawn and all you got was this stupid scar. life has been very, very unfair to talon. And sett's success further illustrates this. I think talon seeing or meeting sett and taking note of this 'perfect noxian' who hates Noxus could very much affect him the same way a hammer affects an eggshell. like oh there's this other world of thinking that I've been unaware of. This guy is winning and he's not even playing by the rules. He doesn't know a thing about Noxus and he hasn't lived there. Is there something wrong with the game itself?

I dunno I think it would be So thematically interesting. Even if they're enemies or if they only meet briefly or whatever. I sound like a crazy person but the themes would go diabolically hard. Do you see it??? (it's 3 am I'm incoherent)

heavier topic + mini rant warning but because I'm seeing 'mischaracterization' discussion around (not just about talon but lol/arc*ne as a whole) I will say that what annoys me most about 'lets make talon the villain' plot points in fics is when they make him a sexpest because that has to be one of most out of character depictions of him. period. 😭

like making him mean is one thing, and I don't really give a shit about that because I don't think talon is an inherently nice person. he's jaded and self-centered (because he had to be to survive.) but like, you really saw a character who's main goal is to be untouchable, who prides himself in quick, (relatively) painless executions and not being seen/known, AND was thought of as pretty aro/ace by his original creator... and decided that was the guy. That was the guy you picked to sexually harass people?? 😭😭😭

ultimately everyone is entitled to their own headcanons, like godspeed I guess. but lets not pretend every headcanon is in character. and it does become very clear when he's used solely as cannon fodder for fics. once again, everyone is entitled to write whichever character however they want, I am not going to stop anyone, but I will squint in ur direction and ofc have my own opinions.

I love how talon fighting against his fates/authority/struggling with control is part of his theming because it's also evident IRL too with how often he struggles against being third partied/shoehorned to be a plot foddered abuser in fanfics. art imitates life..... imitates art...

ohh so this is like, a totally self-indulgent mess of a fic, where basically the premise is that i wanted to write talon as a dogboy 😭😭😭

in this universe (which is set in canon) hybrids and vastaya are not the same thing (vastaya have that magical lineage. hybrids don't) and that causes some friction. talon is sent to noxus to help them invade and instead gets caught in a bear trap and ends up at the pit. i'll include a few snippets. it's talsett, of course.

hello! i cannot recall if i've already asked this so i'm sending it, feel free to ignore if i have

what's "the machine"? ooh or "double-halves"

ah i don't think you've already asked this, or maybe it got eaten in my inbox ;w; no worries either way!

the machine is a modern au talsett fic that also is set with a/b/o dynamics. i gave it that title (which is also a temporary title btw) bc it deals with some themes of unfortunate circumstance. the premise is sett who goes to the city to make a living for his ma and gets involved in an underground fighting ring. because the fic deals with some seriously heavy and smutty themes i'm still not sure i'll ever be posting it publicly, but i do plan on finishing it either way. The current draft is at almost 14k words and it's got a ways left to go.

double-halves is the temporary title for my next talsett longfic! i do have the real title for it but i'm just keeping it under wraps. it's going to be a longfic similar to teeth, though extremely sett-centric in a somewhat alternate timeline, and it's actually the fic i'm most excited for in terms of writing quality. :^)

i'm actually not going to post a preview from this one, as im very excited,,, and salivating, but it can be best summarized with this quote:

Days ago I heard the SB shopkeeper interaction in another language and he called Sett by his full name

I was confused AF at how he pronounced it. Now in SkinSpotlight at 4:17 it's even written in this new manner

YEAHHH i saw that video! I'm very certain the spelling of Settric is just an error, but I love the pronunciation. for the longest time i kinda just like, ignored sett's full name like i knew it was there i guess but in the same way that i ignored how to pronounce my own username lol. then someone brought up the thought of a 'cedrick' type pronounciation to me and i thought it was so cute i hoped it was the case because to me it sounded better than sett-ray or -rye or -rihh.

and behold, it IS HOW YOU SAY IT. so i'm very happy. its so so cute and there's no way anyone pronounces it right on the first try in a modern au.
