is there #dragoncourse now? i always thought 2-legged dragons were more "realistic" than 4-legged ones, just like grrm does. he started out as a sci-fi writer and loves blending it in with his fantasy (see: valyrian dragonlords doing blood experiments; i'm also sure that that "oily black stone" is an alien artifact). he loves imagining how magic, and magical creatures, can be realistic and i think it's cool af. and honestly i agree that 4-legged dragons with wings on their backs look stupid.

There are a lot of "ASoIaF dragons are not real dragons" people out there, and really, as I said in the post I suspect you are responding to, I think it's really stupid.

Why exactly is this a big deal to people except that they want to feel comfortable with creatures such as these they have seen all their lives stay so when they feel they are themselves gone?

So that it doesn't feel like they've "wasted' their lives or something loving/obsessing over these fantastical creatures? We're fantasy readers--since when has it been the MO to subscribe to such strict rules?!

Or is it they still that to "protect" the genre, to protect it from people who think of fantasy as this "lower" intellectual property bc it is highly "unrealistic" (read Ursula K. LeGuin's 1974 essay on why Americans hate fantasy) that they have to be anal about such insignificant properties? But they don't know that by doing so, they have fallen back into the same spot as those who claim fantasy is just escapism or un-valuable bc it is "impractical"--they insisting on this weird seriousness by focusing on the more superficial "rules" or appearances of some conventions in fantasy, they relegate fantasy to this static character of superficiality, unimaginativeness, and "childishness/womanishness" that they want fantasy to be less regarded as. Bec without element of repurpose and "recombination", fantasy becomes relevant and joyful.

By "imagination," then, I personally mean the free play of the mind, both intellectual and sensory. By "play" I mean recreation, re-creation, the recombination of what is known into what is new.

Perhaps it's bc they want to protect, as I have said in that other post, the dragons of their childhoods they way they do other stuff that partially lead to so many damn remakes? In that case, 🙄. Not everything is about the past and nostalgia, people. the past is fodder for new things.

The crazy part is that it's just legs, it's not like Twilight that completely did a reverse on vampires in multiple ways!

Fantasy of any genre--urban, high, "grim-dark", sci-fi, historical--has always "broken" or "strayed" or, truly, repurposed some "traditional" elements of the creatures. think of vampires...even before Twilight, have vampires always been the Bram Stoker kind in popular media? Have we not seen more vampires take on a more pseudo-sciency character, with injections of "viruses" and such? Zombie-like vamps? Hello?! There wasn't even the rule about having to eject one's bodily fluids in the vampiric creation process in the orig Bran Stoker story, not it's damn near everywhere!

It's not even about "realism" for me or how we should or should not strive for the most "realistic" dragon. It's about the flexibility of fantasy writing and the history of the super-genre itself. As long as one maintains the rules they set up for their own lore ANd they stuck to the some basic-basics, I really never cared abt whether they conformed to supposedly, popular description for a cryptid or mythological creature. If it flies, uses the elements (earth, air, water, fire), and has scales, it's a fucking dragon. Some non-EU dragons have NO legs!

I could even let go of wings, bc many non-European dragons don't have wings, esp in Africa. Because, almost near around the world (as all of the current popular cryptids and creatures like werewolves, vamps, dragons, succubi, etc), we have adapted fantasy fiction's villains and monsters from. And this insistence on dragons having 4 legs stems much from the EU-description of a dragon, that as GRRM said in his blog post, itself comes from the long-ago bifurcation of medieval people calling that and that a wyvern vs "dragon". It was arbitrary then, it is so, now. Calm the fuck down. More energy is better spent criticizing the HotD and GoT writers for fucking up so many human characters or, idk, defending enby and PoC/black actors!

If we hadn't been more flexible with how we created lore...would there even be sci-fi and fantasy fiction?! DRAGONS DO NOT EXIST IN "REAL" LIFE and fantasy has not always been about keeping as close to reality as possible but the creation of alternative worlds to explore ideologies and human behaviors/relationships to their worlds--to explore, isolate and work around the "chosen" heart and patterns in human behavior.

To create these worlds, fantasy writers choose fantasy to see/portray how humans may understand what a human/society is not in spite of but because of the environments they grow in! and fantasy affords them much more room for high drama that non fantasy cannot "reasonably" have!

As for myself, I prefer dragons having 2 legs when you want to impress that these are creatures who may or may not have higher cognitive functions but can't necessarily talk to humans or feel emotions like humans can or in the same exact range of reactions, etc. When you want to make them more like nonhuman animals. Whereas, ironically, 4 legged dragons, I associate with more "wise", super-repositories of the knowledge of the earth. It's, again, not abt "realism", it's abt character and role in the story and how we are to understand the symbolism of such magnificent creatures and how they are going to work/be repurposed. Making sure your chosen rules remain consistent and plausible.

Popular dragons are air/fire creatures (water for Asian cultures), but have developed from the humans' observations of lizards', snakes, and other reptiles' proximity and making homes in the ground. They are chthonic, which means associated with the underworld or world of the dead (esp in ancient Greece) and often associated with death in EU cultures more than say China or Japan. Of which dragons are much more associated with bringing life as well as death (the Yangtze river flooding often), but are benevolent rather than malignant anyway. From the chthonic associations, Christianity solidified dragons' symbolism to be "evil" and mainly destructive for popular media to then reuse for its own generations of projects where capitalist execs prefers the the past popular thing to assure the money flow stays consistently in their favor. A "secure" mode of income, lovley.

Am I to expect dragons to look & represent the same associations the same forever and ever and ever in fantasy fiction?! And not only that, but to make them more in line with a European Christian oversimplification of evil vs good?! To hell with that (wordplay intended). Because a few people whine about these dragons not having the number of legs they deem to be sufficient and "real"?!

Idk if Capcom were deliberately trying to make RE4R have at least some romantic undertone when it came to Leon/Ashley bc to me it's pretty obvious, there's a bunch of romantic imagery. Like a lot of the side characters reference it; Luis with his Prince Charming comment at that moment and calling Ash a princess (Dulcinea), Ada seeing that Leon actually cares for Ashley (calls her his "friend" at one point in a weird tone of voice), Ramon referring to them as knight in shining armor and princess and keeps taunting him when he loses her, the queen and king puzzle, the way Krauser taunts him and uses Leon's concern for her against him knowing the way to get to him is to mention Ashley, the merchant commenting if he's having a rough day after Ashley stabs him and runs away, Saddler using Ashley specifically to kill Leon knowing it would be torture for them both (he can read people's minds, right? So he knows), Ashley being so strong willed for resisting Saddler for trying to make her commit something she would never even think of and saving his life again when she jams the gun (yeah she prob didn't know that would happen but her unwillingness to shoot regardless of the mind control making her hand shake so much), Leon himself changing when getting to know Ashley and caring for her personally not for the mission he was forced into. He literally was ready to die for her even if it meant that she most likely wouldn't make it out w/o him. The way he carried her at the end!!! Like that's not just his professionalism and determination, there's devotion there and she shares the same sentiment. The way they ride off into the sunrise after "rain" starts pouring and they both smile at each other??? How is that not romantic imagery? If you saw that scene w/o context you would think they were the surviving couple of an action movie. There's more I'm missing bc I've been playing other games but there's a lot of evidence and context clues.

I mean, I absolutely believe that it was intentional on Capcom's part and the Leon and Ashley romance is actually, in fact, what the developers were going for. It would be absolutely batshit for this gigantic mountain of evidence to be an unintended coincidence. But I don't think that they went into it going, "Okay, this time around, we're going to have Leon and Ashley be The Canon Ship in RE."

What Capcom actually did was take Resident Evil 4 and turn it into a fairy tale. It was a really creative take on the game and was likely meant as appreciation for the fact that OG RE4 was such a major part of so many people's childhoods. (Ashley's line at the shooting gallery of "It reminds me of being a kid" plays into this, too, as a little tongue-in-cheek thing.)

So, as a self-contained story, yes, RE4make is a romance between Leon and Ashley. And that's where I think a huge portion of the fandom is getting tripped up on not being able to see it for what it is. They look at Leon and Ashley and go "okay, but this can't actually be the intention because we know xyz happens later in the series." That doesn't matter. That's not the point of what they did.

The point of it was to pay tribute to the way that so many people -- after coming into the series with RE4 OG in their adolescence -- thought of Leon as being a big, dreamy, hero-type character. So, they did that by actually turning him into one this time around who saves the day and gets the girl.

It doesn't mean that Capcom is committing to the actual ship, though. Just because this romantic storyline happened in RE4make doesn't mean that the next installment in the Remake series is going to confirm that Ashley is Leon's girlfriend or someshit. It is still entirely possible that we will never see Ashley Graham ever again.

As part of a greater whole, RE4make is just another stop along the horrible, winding road that is Leon Kennedy's shitty, shitty life. But, at least this time, he actually got to be the big damn hero for once.

I need to talk about the Resident Evil 4 (Remake) let’s plays from two very particular youtubers

I watched it by Slimecicle and a German cc (Zombey) and it’s just so fucking fun because I never noticed how similarly they play until I watched them play the same game.

They are both crazy good at games but in a very subtle way:

-          Constantly making fun of themselves for not noticing a certain detail/dying at a harder part

-          But also playing on the literal highest difficulty with ease

Like these two are playing around like “Oh, I’m just a silly guy playing a silly game” while obliterating enemies on the hardest difficulty

I never played RE (any part), just watched a few videos on it, but I would die like 2000 times on the easiest difficulty and these two come here and pretend they’re not some weird video game gods

Like, Zombey just starts his first video on the remake by saying that he played the original 10 times as a child and learned every secret by heart and then comments in every area about all the differences and similarities between the versions, while Slimecicle has to actively stop himself from opening the map because he wants to play the game to perfection on the first fcking try

And the commentary about Leon’s quips from Slime vs commentary about Leon’s weird grunts from Zombey

And they’re both so excited over this game, just enjoying every second and I am living for it

At the part where you can try out your weapons by shooting pirates to earn certain rewards, both of them just had to win 100% of the rewards; like, slime literally tried it over five times just for his satisfaction and zombey re-tried it multiple times too

listen the nostalgia of it all carried me a good long way and maybe i'm grumpy bc i'm sick but i gotta be honest with y'all, my final impression of x-men '97 is that it is utterly incoherent

granted, my familiarity with most of the storylines they're pulling from here is low -- synopses and recaps, if i know anything at all, and my comics readership has always been spotty at best -- but... do bastion's motivations and actions make any sense in the books? and frankly i think they did my boy mister sinister dirty...

but i think the pacing was where it suffered the most. idk, i feel like each individual episode started slow and unfocused, yet still rushed to wrap up storylines, where tas might have just sprawled all over some multiparters. but in the current make-or-break tv environment, '97 can't afford to take its time, it has to throw all the big spaghetti at the wall right away, and it scrambles to too-fast, too-pat resolutions -- but because it's controlled by the mouse now, it also has to resolve with feel-good moral messages in a way that frankly clashes with the intentionally complex tradition of x-men. the three-part finale was some of the worst, pastede on storytelling i've seen since the last time i watched a steven binder episode of ncis. it also was unclear to me how much of tas was canon and how much has been retconned and how much was just, like, establishing the vibes but ditching the storylines. (then again, confusion is just the standard state of affairs re: x-men canon.)

which is not to say that everything was terrible -- this show loves a heroic monologue, and most of those were actually quite powerful. the art style works. the voice cast (returning and new) works. lenore zann is a standout for me; she's so much more mature as a performer now (obvi) and she brings so much more depth to rogue than she could 30 years ago. making our heroes more powerful, as you know, made me positively giddy (although i will say that cyclops's primal yells inspired laughter rather than awe). if "tolerance is extinction" 1–3 were the worst episodes, i think "remember it" and "bright eyes" were the best -- strongest plots and tightest character beats. and truly, they did my faves so good: gambit was perfect, rogue (incoherent retconned backstory aside) was perfect, nightcrawler was perfect, jubilee was perfect. all the homoerotically-charged wolverine-and-morph everything was perfect. jean and storm's friendship was perfect. beast rejecting trish tilby in the ruins of genosha was perfect. jubilee and roberto visiting his mom, and her nutball wealthy privilege -- perfect.

the storm-and-forge stuff unfortunately fell flat for me, mostly bc the "lifedeath" episodes suffered from so many weird racist overtones. and of course all the convoluted summers clan stuff was also a miss, because the only summers i give two shits about is rachel -- but this version of jean grey (and madelyne pryor) was more compelling than most.

i don't know, maybe this is the same cynicism that has led to my current stubborn resistance to popular media, that chased me away from the mcu*, that has had me keep my distance from the glut of remakes and reboots, and that has basically stopped me from getting into any new shows for literally years. but it's hard for me not to see this as an empty cash grab, just marvel and disney playing on millennial nostalgia to capture streaming subscriptions and sell merch -- which, frankly, is all they have done with any of their properties for the last 4-5 years anyway. and i have never paid disney plus a red cent and i never will (yo ho), but it also just. doesn't feel good to watch. makes me tired. throws me out of my suspension of disbelief. being able to see the forces of capitalism nakedly at work in a piece of media really takes the enjoyment out of it for me, you know?

i’ve honestly always wholeheartedly adored kirby tbh. i’ll never forget seeing scream 4 at a formative age and wanting to be just half as cool as her so bad lmaoo. i don’t know if this is really related at all but i think at least in 4, she was a little more flawed as a person than some people really pick up on. and i think those flaws genuinely make her a more interesting character. she’s a little rude, blunt, callous, whatever. doesn’t outwardly care too much about her friend getting brutally murdered right in front of her. still goes to stab-a-thon, has a good time, flirts with charlie, hosts an after party, brags about her movie knowledge. which good for her with the last one ❤️ but she does come off a little self involved. she’s also a teenager so. fair enough. but she obviously has a lot of good moments as well. she seems to care deeply for jill and shows a lot of courage, heart, and vulnerability in that final scene trying to save charlie’s life. she wasn’t perfect and that’s what makes her pretty compelling to me. i think mindy shares a lot of these qualities as well but she didn’t really get a heart and vulnerability moment like kirby did with the trying to save charlie debacle. i feel like she’ll be getting one in 6 though, not gonna lie. idk but i do love them both and i’m excited to see them again <3

and to be fair, as self-involved and blunt as she comes across, uh, even kirby's more callous lines don't compare to robbie tbh. iirc like, olivia's body is barely cold and he refers to her as "the girl who'll now never date me," or if not that exactly, something to the effect of it (now i have to re-watch scre4m yet again). like. fuck man.

also when kirby tried to save charlie (as far as she knew) and started shakily rattling off whatever remake come to mind, hayden panettiere's performance was so raw and compelling that on the first watch i didn't even realize it's supposed to be the film taking a crack at how derivative and lazy so many remakes are!! the commentary totally flew over my head bc i was so wrapped up in her urgency and desperation.

although my favorite kirby moment will always be when she yells at trevor after her interrupts her and charlie. her face is a whole mood, i swear if this movie had come out a handful of years later than it did kirby prolly would've become a reaction gif. 😂

and mindy! yes, ofc i adore mindy. and she is similarly kind of harsh. like when she refuses to go with richie to the basement and he goes alone and like, as soon as the door shuts behind him she's all, "well he's dead," and shoves her hand in a bag of chips. LMAO. to be fair tho, to be fair richie is irritating af and that prolly would've been my reaction too. anonymoose friend, i am sorry if u like richie but he just aggravates me, personally, he was getting on my nerves the whole movie.

i do feel we'll be getting more vulnerability from mindy come scream vi tho, more development for her character in general. jasmin savoy brown has the range!!! and already the super bowl ad heavily suggests her girlfriend is going to get killed.

i keep re-watching it (and all the other ads, ngl) trying to work out the mechanics of that scene.

it looks like anika is already wounded? she's covered in blood. yes, it could be someone else's blood but i'm thinking it's hers bc in the one shot it looks like mindy is helping her on the floor? it's blink-and-miss-it, but it's there, for the life of me tho, which trailer or tv spot was it in?? i don't remember, they're all blurring together. but also it seems that mindy gets on the ladder before anika does, that she's left her in the bloody bedroom (quinn's bedroom?) and that makes me wonder if the plan is for mindy to go first bc anika could potentially successfully play dead if ghostface enters the room, given that she's already injured. if that is the plan it clearly doesn't work, but. still.

anyway, yes, i love kirby and mindy and i'm very excited to see them both again and hopefully we'll get some good interactions between them too!!

how do you choose your titles - i dont i just close my eyes and spin a roulette wheel and see what happens. FR THOUGH i dont rlly know i just kinda.. choose a phrase or word i like (survivors, the last warriors) or sometimes i use song lyrics (uneven odds, a world alone)

do you outline - yes but im awful at it sjfblavrowvriw. i write very VERY vague outlines that are half shitposty and completely useless as an outline to anybody except for me. i often stray wayyy off the outline too and the story almost always ends up no longer following the outline and i free-write by like half way through 😔✊

favorite story ive written so far - as i mentioned above, red survivors!! the entire series is currently at over 125k words altogether and its been so much fun to write and talk about with its readers. its the first multi-chap fic ive finished in YEARS and im so happy ive stuck with it bc it means so much to me, these characters and their world and interactions make me so emo all the time

complete - out of the 6 i have on a03, 4 are finished! granted 3 of those 4 are oneshots bc im typically not that good at finishing multi-chaptered ones. and this number only includes the fics ive finished enough to get a single chap at least out so um. LABDKABDKBA

in progress - i usually only work on 1 fic at a time so i don't forget about one over the other so im only rlly working on a world alone rn! i am planning a remake of my old warriors story so that's technically in progress ive just been really really slow with it,,, oops

i got this ask and then forgot about it for like 2 days. anyways.

IVE ANSWERED THIS BEFORE BUT. GOD. LEON. ok so like....... long story short last year was when i first played resident evil........ bc we got a copy of re2remake in and.... jesus christ. i hyperfixated so fucking hard for the better part of a year going on into this year. and then i watched hl/vr and well. we know where that went. but now i am once again hyperfixated and now im back to where i was in like.... june of last year LMAO. but anyways i am once again going to ramble under the cut about them <3 (seriously. its very long and doesnt go much of anywhere. also spoilers)

tl/dr:

OK. SO. resident evil. the last time i answered this ask i either hadnt played some of them or just completely forgot the plot of others LOL but now upon beating/playing a large majority of them (besides 6 which i have not touched yet, and 7 is first person and im not rly interested in it rn)...... well others have said this as well but if you like cheesy b action movies you would love resident evil!!! 

the orig 1-2 are more survival horror which is what i like the most. 3 is where it starts branching into more actiony stuff but is still survival horror. but 4 and after is just like..... cheesy action stuff which is fine but not really like.... my thing. altho i do think that they are fun in a “this plot is hilariously bad” type way because i do enjoy horrible things. but people who like resident evil dont like it for the plot they like it for the characters. and for me i latched the fuck onto leon kennedy and tyrant t-00 aka mr fucking x

listen.......... you guys know me relatively well enough to know that i have a type......... and i would define leon as not really fitting under it usually because he is 1. under 6 foot 2. human and 3. very much not a villain. but something about (mostly remake) leon hits fucking different!!!!!! hes kind and means well, thinks about others constantly, looks like an actual fucking person in the in game graphics instead of being some manufactured perfect model, nice voice, etc....... i fucking care him so much. also gameplay wise i find his weapons to be more enjoyable than claires so i always end up playing his route/2nd route the most compared to hers. but i do also like claire :) shes nice and epic

i dont really like the newer leons (4 and afterwards) as much.... i mean a lot of it has to do with trauma and general “growing up” after what happened in re2 but hes just so constantly... snarky? jaded? constantly spouting lines to make him seem cool? when in my head hes very much like... a loser LMAO. i mean dont get me wrong hes a badass. he survives a fucking zombie outbreak and nearly gets murdered dozens of time. thats the definition of badass. but also you cannot change my mind that hes also a anxious loser twunk. there is literally nothing you can do to convince me he is “cool” like the games and movies want to think. this is probably heresy to re fans but this is my truth

also you literally CANNOT convince me that he is straight. the games try SOOOOO hard to get you to ship leon/ada or leon/claire but like...... i cannot see it. he has one of the gayest run animations i have ever seen in re2 remake and i mean... he just radiates gay trans man energy to me. also please look at this small scene from one of the animated movies where a licker jumps on top of him and he wraps his legs around its hips and lifts it off of him to not die. gay king

but yes ive basically decided to ignore all characterization from re4 and onwards regarding leon at least. every leon after that is not my leon (except in special cases when im thinking about something like leon/jd from re damnation..... they did jd so dirty and they should have fucking kissed. or how cute he looked in vendetta sometimes)

so basically there are these enemies in resident evil called “tyrants” that are manufactured by the evil capitalist company umbrella that are near indestructible save for like.... rocket launchers or super heavy artillery that youre not buying at your local gun store. and in re2 one of them get sent to the police station where leon and claire are and is told to wipe out all witnesses. (i also do think that 2 or more were sent there... or at least in the area when this happened due to some very obvious plot hole stuff on each route no matter how you play, even tho the devs have come out and said that only 1 existed in the game and that each route is like “a parallel dimension” to each other. i wont go into it more than that but i choose to ignore that)

and well. when i first played it i knew of mr x but didnt like... know much about him other than that he was a monster and Tall (like 7 or 8 feet tall) and that he chased you around. that already sold me on him but then. well. you first encounter him because he lifts up an entire goddamn helicopter and then proceeds to chase you. and it was then that i knew i was in deep shit because he fucking stomped his way into my heart and never left.

mr x basically has serious Side Character Disorder where (even tho the remake made him very cool and epic and did him really well compared to nemesis in re3 remake which is an entire different can of worms) he has LITERALLY no personality or like. thoughts. or anything. hes only there to chase you around and be on screen for like 10 seconds for a couple of cutscenes and then not show up again until the very end of the game for you to fight on leons route. but god. he means so fucking much to me. 

you know how people latch onto random side characters that have no personality and essentially flesh them out more than the creators ever will? thats me with mr x. its gotten to the point where certain songs come on on my spotify and i actually get EMOTIONS or even TEARS because they remind me of him, but its not even really HIM, its the fucking ideas that ive come up with regarding him because all he ever does in game is chase you around and punch you and then die and is never brought up again

but anyways. mr x is a tall monster who chases leon and claire around in their routes but mr x is leons main monster in the game (claire has a different one). he chases leon around, literally never stops looking at him as he chases him, gets hit by an entire fucking car which then explodes BUT THEN chases him down into the sewers and into a secret underground lab just to get to him like a fucking bloodhound who, once he has the scent, will never stop chasing him

(you can see why this made me kind of insane)

just. AGHHH. the tyrants in this series get treated so dirty. i desperately want capcom to give us some sort of tyrant that can actually fucking like.... go against orders and brainwashing or whatever and actually have emotions and thoughts!!!!!!!!!! but capcom would never do anything with it cause its a rough and tough action series and people arent here to see tyrants have some sort of thought process beyond punching and killing and people only want to shoot guns at them instead of thinking about the possibilities of a tyrant that goes against its programming.

i so desperately want an au where mr x got the transmitter shot off of the side of his head (and while capcom never mentioned this ever many re2 fans have since decided that it is what feeds info/orders to him. i flip flop between thinking that it either is near controlling him and prevents free will and thought or that its just giving him orders and that hes just burying/hiding/not showing free will and thought in fear of being killed. either that or someone at umbrella is “piloting” him but also the whole point of tyrants is that theyre supposed to be smart enough to think for themselves somewhat so... eh). GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyways please play re2 remake at least, you dont have to know everything about re1 to like it, just go into it knowing that a few months ago in the mountains outside raccoon city claires brother chris and a few members on his team went to a mansion where they discovered umbrella doing shady zombie shit there. re2 remake was hyped up for years for a reason and it is really good, even if its short (altho i do appreciate short games in this day and age cause not every game needs to be like 60 plus hours long). 

maybe one day when its not late and i can actually think i will explain all this better but todays not that day <3

AND YEAAA relating to favorite characters is a super nice thing, I know what you mean!! ^o^ Seeing Undertale trending again recently for the anniversary made me nostalgic for all the self-indulgent headcanon art I used to draw of Alphys, haha!

I will say, it’s kind of weird because lately I haven’t had One Big All-Consuming interest like I usually did in the past (except for maybe Game Grumps and Ninja Sex Party which have still been staples for me xD), I’ve been trying to expand my horizons during quarantine and I’m starting a lot of new shows & games!!! I gotta give my partner tons of credit for introducing me to new things I never would have checked out on my own, without him I’d probably still be watching the same old Game Grumps compilations and nothing else, lol. It’s been AWESOME discovering new interests!

During lockdown I have:

- Watched all of the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure anime and just finished part 6 of the manga! You don’t even know how hard I resisted getting into this series, but sometime around part 4 I got nearly as obsessed as bf xD Emphasis on nearly, hehe. But seriously, I love this series! I met some awesome new characters too! I really love some of the sillier characters like Narancia and Foo Fighters, but Jotaro has grown on me like a LOT!! I love this fella, especially in part 4. Joseph was the first person that made me interested in the show!

- Watched and read all of Beastars so far! Excited for season 2 to be animated! The manga is definitely all over the place, but still made for some really interesting friend discussions! 

- Started Hunter x Hunter 2011, as well as some of the 1999 episodes! It got to a SUUUPER slow point so I haven’t finished it, but people have been convincing me to stick with it for the Chimera Ant arc which is supposedly the best xD Mostly I just ADORE Gon and Killua’s dynamic, as well as their friends Kurapika and Leorio! I feel like the series is a little bit confusing and isn’t storytelling to its max potential, but I have some favorite bits for sure!

- Re-awakened a Spongebob obsession xD I got the game Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated and beat it, SUCHHHH a good game!! It inspired me to watch a ton of old episodes (seasons 1-3 of course) which was very nostalgic and made me remember how genuinely hilarious of a cartoon it was.

- Played tons of Animal Crossing! I sort of burnt out on ACNH like most ppl stuck at home with a Switch, but I’m happy with my island (named Daffodil!) and the love I put into it! It served as some crucial escapism at the start of this wackiness, lol

- Beaten Mario Galaxy for the very first time!! This was a hyperfocus-y highlight for me, I beat the game in under 3 days and LOVED every second!! Mario Galaxy is such a delightful game!

- Started Majora’s Mask 3DS! My mom also got a copy so the two of us could play together! I ended up getting MUCH farther in the game than her since I’d played the first part a few times when I was younger, but I don’t know if I’ll ever beat it, haha. The 3DS remake made some changes from the original that bummed me out, so I’m taking a break until I’m inspired again :P Maybe I’ll just play through Ocarina of Time again?

- Played Fall Guys with my pals!! Honestly I’m craving this game again, maybe after typing this post I’ll play some, hehe.

- Started Pokemon Journeys (the anime) with bf!!!! I LOVE this show, I think it’s the best Pokemon anime yet! Lots of very cute Pikachu moments which is important to me, and lots of content that really takes full advantage of the Pokemon world!

- Got into Rock-Afire Explosion with bf! I feel weird talking so much about him on here since he doesn’t have a tumblr account and most likely doesn’t read these posts, but he’s been a huge part of my life :P Anyways, this guy is the Rock-Afire KING, it’s been a lot of fun listening to their (shockingly) good songs and seeing the project he’s been working on for it! I’ve grown a huge fondness for Billy Bob, he is a sweet boy with a sweet voice.

- Started Neon Genesis Evangelion! I’m actually super close to finishing this anime, it REALLY got cool and interesting! I’m glad about not being spoiled Too much despite seeing it everywhere online for most of my teenagehood, haha. One of the more serious things I’ve watched lately, but I find stories like this to be cathartic :P

- And arguably most importantly, Avatar the Last Airbender!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy MOLY! This is one of those things that ppl have been pressuring me to get into for Years, and now that I have, I wish I could go back in time and pester myself alongside my friends, haha! I binged a whole season’s worth on a sick day, I just really Really love every character, and the writing, and the worldbuildinG, it’s all fantastic and it’s all been said before xD I also caved and bought the entire collection of The Search and The Promise of the comic series!!! Just read the rest of it last night, I am in awe over how fantastic Avatar really is!! I think that alongside Jojo, Avatar has been a world that really helped me through the weirdness of these past months xD

I also have been thinking a lot about my furry characters, lol :P I’ve commissioned and drawn  so much art of my OCs, they just all make me so happy! Especially my fursona Twinkie of course, I feel so connected with this goofball cat! I want to maybe develop a comic for my characters and make a world for them, but all of my motivation is being dedicated to art classes :P

ANYWAYS!! Thanks for letting me ultra infodump, this became less of an interest-gush and more of a quarantine update xD I don’t love talking about the current situation because it’s All anyone talks about (I mean, I get why but yknow) but I’m really grateful that I found some inspiration and enjoyment in new things during my time at home!

Top 3 Ships: I’m actually gonna give you 4 bc I’m indecisive and couldn’t choose (in no actual meaningful order mostly). First, CloTi from Final Fantasy VII always and forever owns my heart, and my love has been recently revived by the remake. Second Fakiru from Princess Tutu (seriously amazing anime. If you haven’t watched it yet, what are you even doing with your life? I highly recommend you go do so as soon as possible). Third, while I love many ships from D.N.Angel, my favorite is actually platonic BrOTP Dark & Daisuke (identity issues aside, I love that those two nerds love each other so much while acting like they annoy each other). Fourth Stucky from the MCU (what can I say, I like tragic hurt/comfort childhood friend romance angst).

Last Song: Picture Perfect (Remix) from A Hat In Time (haven’t actually played the game yet, but the soundtrack is seriously good!)

Last Movie: Pretty sure it was Knives Out, which I really enjoyed! Definitely recommend if you like the idea of a Clue-like murder mystery that’s not too intense or gory (IMO) with a REALLY satisfying ending.

Currently Reading: I actually recently decided to re-read my first and favorite manga series, D.N.Angel by Yukiru Sugisaki and am in the midst of that! If you’ve only seen/heard of the anime, do yourself a favor and hunt down the manga bc it is 1000 times better in every conceivable way. Major 90′s shoujo/magical boy vibes, has been written on and off with many hiatuses and subsequent art style shifts, and is still ongoing, but I love it so much. Also recently started reading the fic series Izuku Haunts Class 1-A by Artistic_Gamer over on AO3 which I can’t recommend highly enough (just be warned that it does deal with themes of suicide and death).

what are your top five fave games and why?

so here it all is after the cut:

i’d definitely say that panzer dragoon zwei is my top fave game. i started playing zwei when i was little (around six? i think?) and have two different copies which i return to every so often. i love how different it still is to a lot of the other types of games that i play, being that it’s a rail shooter with such an intriguing overarching story written via episodes of stages that alter depending on the pathways you choose. it feels so alive, full of beautiful music, gorgeously generated bgs for it’s time and really intriguing alien-esque designs for the enemies. but that’s... actually not what had the biggest impact on me

what did was what happened depending on what score you get at the end of each episode; the higher the score (from low to perfect accuracy), the higher a chance that your dragon will morph. lagi goes from being this young yearling who is still struggling to fly at the beginning to this absolute flipping powerhouse at the end if you play it right. and you have multiple endings associated with what morph he ends up as too!

it’s just.... such a thought-provoking, immersive and cool journey to go along with. especially as you’re not just watching your dragon grow and become ever more powerful, but watching his rider, and previously, his carer, grow along with him too, developing from an angry, vengeful person into someone who realizes that. their fate, their destiny as a duo is one and the same and it’s not just about his feelings anymore but for the fate of their entire world and the rest of the population, both monsters and humans, that live in it

second to that is panzer dragoon saga. another one i played when i was younger. but, originally, i only had the demo disc, so just... kept repeatedly playing that due to the fucking gorgeous boss battle music at the end of it

this time, it’s the world building that draws me to it. how... everything is so well thought out; from the militaristic stand points of two warring armies, to the struggle of humanity in the face of a post-apocalyptic world and it’s ever more mutated, monstrous inhabitants. the dragon, this time, has ever more of a crucial role, completing his role as a ‘destroyer’ of that which is actually? (not that either army knows this) to save the human race from extinction

again, there’s a lot of cool character development that goes on: from the dragon’s rider edge, to the ‘rival’ azel, who is an android-esque entity known as a drone designed from an ancient age. 

as a game, it not only brings some of the regular mechanics to the table, but also allows you some fun room to do silly little antics like barrel roll through the air when you’re controlling the dragon. it has such a gorgeous soundtrack and subtle little details to the controls, alongside the replay value just... being immense tbh... so this almost joined the top one spot but just managed to miss by a near margin due to zwei being just a bit closer to my heart

okay so. this third spot has a mix of a few different games. most of them horror. there’s resident evil 0 and 1, 4 and also.... eternal darkness! they all have some really cool features that it was hard to decide on one of them! as a kid, i watched my dad play re a Lot, there were some of his fave games and i ended up really attached to them myself

they have a really cool story that pretty much jump-started all of the zombie horror games that came after. i just... find the whole fact that this virus can infect and turn others a really cool concept to bring to the table even now? (and then parasites and also Sci-fi leeches that the t-virus originally came from?? such cool stuff) especially as. you’re playing as some of the survivors. zero has a really cool mechanic that, well, was a tiny bit clunky maybe but fascinated me when i first played it. you get to switch control between rebecca chambers and billy, trying to piece together a series of murders and the secrets behind them. there’s a lot of really cool enemies in that game

and just... re1 and re4 are so Iconic and fun to play. especially the remake of re1

then there’s spyro 3 taking fourth place! a fun childhood game that really always be in my heart tbh.... i still prefer the original, even as p nicely put together as reignited is. it holds so much charm!! from the colours, to the music, to the fact that you’re picking up dragon eggs that hatch the babs! it has a lot of v cool minigames and then some... super hard ones (looking at u rhynoc ice hockey)

it’s such a fabulous and fun game that i will always end up returning to tbh

and finally.... there’s sa1!! i Love absolutely Love the cinematic opening before you play the game!! just. Oomph that music is so good (and perfect chaos eye just. opening in this cool way?? A+ tbh)

i played it for dreamcast and went on to play it on gamecube. i think... besides the main story and tikal being such a fab and sad character (alongside chaos himself), it also illustrated some things about the other characters you play as. particularly knuckles and tails

honestly though?? one of my main focuses outside of the actual storyline is always gonna be the chao gardens. i couldn’t get enough of them as a kid and still can’t now whenever i play! i just... end up veering back to them over and over again... mainly bc of how cute the chao are? but also how fun it is to raise them and see them change into all of these different forms

Also, what if, instead of his mother’s scream that he heard when near dementors, it was this laugh. That would have changed the tone of POA a smidge. // He hears it too if i remember correctly, he even hears James.

Oh goodness I was just reminded of the pain in POA where Harry wants to face the fake dementor so much bc a tiny part of him wants to hear his parents. I am hurt.

I  still wonder why Dumbledore didn’t come to do this introduction. Isn’t it supposed to be him? // He had McGonagall's role when he did for Riddle, so most probably it should have been her (and I wanna read a fic with McG confronting the Dursleys when finding out Harry knows nothing  and was abused ASAP)

That is a good point. Maybe this decision is more lax than I am thinking?

Considering that Narnia came out well before this day, I am almost ashamed that Harry would be convinced to follow a strange magic manwho enticed Harry with sweets and told him about a future that is almost too-good-to-be-true and just shrugged and said “I guess I’m going to Hogwarts. [Whatever that is.]” // Yeah but has Harry even read the Narnia books? He doesn't belong to the library either. It really shows how desperate he is to get away from the Dursleys.

That is interesting and I forgot about the intention of Hagrid also carrying Harry back when Harry sacrificed himself. I think Dumbledore has a strong guilt problem and probably wanted to avoid having to face Harry. (Kind of what you said Laura.) Reminds me of DD’s avoidance of Harry in OOTP. But I guess he sent Hagrid instead (bc, I like that someone else suggested that, Hagrid looks formidable) bc he’s kind and has been entrusted to bring Harry somewhere to safely before (on the night Jily died). This just turned into my talking aloud to no one in particular sorry. haha

Oh I know you weren’t blaming him. We were both joking. :) I sometimes say jokes with forgetting that I need a little more context behind them. 

But back to the original matter, in reality it was probably a decision on Chris Columbus’ part to have Harry yell it. Even if Kloves put that in the script (and he did write all the scripts if I’m remembering right, I definitely know he wrote this one) the director has the power to change it. It was down to Chris. I just like complain about Kloves and like making excuses to do so haha.

I think lily brought magic home to play not to study and to show it to her family. Remember her parents were fascinated with magic. Plus we have examples of her doing magic for petunia. The disregard for under age magic had to be a plot twist because wouldn't she have been disciplined I'd she did it always?

She probably got a warning letter. haha Like mother like son!

Your point about the dursleys nor deserving of hearing the story because they didn't feel bad reminds me of snape after watching memories of harry's past and feeling nothing. Which now i think about it,  contrasts so will Wirth harry watch the princes tale and feeling so much (too much in my opinion,  lol)

Hmm, also wondering whether it was a real pain or not. I'm going to err on tge side of physical. There wasn't a lot a self reflection going on there for emotional. And then, that supports my theory on why Harry had such a violent reaction to the dementors...

You’re very right. I feel like in OOTP after Cedric and the graveyard sitting around trying to read would have been a task. He was probably too easily distracted. I would find myself having to walk around too.

1) What made you start writing for the first time?

okay so i know a lot of people have like, set points? when they remember they decided to write? i don’t. i’ve been writing stories for as long as i could hold a pen (there are so many chicken scrawl-filled notebooks around the house. so many. and then there’s The Binder) and before that i drew (poorly) or just told. my parents have lots of stories of me just making up something out of the blue as young as three. there was this long compicated thing i made up about leaves, i think? i loved autumn leaves when i was little

most of it was contained in my head though. i didn’t have any friends as a kid, as being bullied tends to do, so i entertained myself with imaginary friends or self-insert fantasies where i got revenge on my bullies in different ways. the earliest daydream universe i remember was something along the lines of me being like a giant bee with a stinger that made people nice? (bees was the big thing for me at the time) i was like, six so. and then there was the one where i first was the reincarnation of a deity that was murdered which i revealed and then everyone finally thought i was cool especially my manipulative selfish crush, and then i was a shapeshifter who, as the world was being destroyed for its sins especially those against me, went ‘peace out & fuck y’all’ and went back to my home dimension.

i’ve been remaking that fantasy world over and over again ever since (sans self-insert) and its where my current project/novel/whatever is set, so something good came out of it at least lmao

tl;dr loneliness trauma and an overactive imagination

2) If you could only write about the ocean, the forest, or the desert for the rest of your life, which one would you pick?

the forest. the desert is boring, the ocean frankly scares me (it’s cool bc we don’t know what’s in there but also WE DONT KNOW WHATS IN THERE). the forest, on the other hand, is... i don’t know. but i love that forests can be so ancient, so full of history. they’re mysterious and magical but with a smaller risk of drowning

3) Would you ever write a memoir?

4) Do you like writing by hand, or writing with a computer?

computer definitely how do you write by hand what

working on my, honestly appaling, handwriting (read: write page after page of whatever just as long as i wrote) was what my elementary/middle school teachers made me do once i finished my work after like ten minutes bc nothing they had challenged me and i refused to do the endless repetetive worksheets. so now i have neat handwriting but instinctually recoil every time i see a pen. Nice(TM)

there’s also the fact that the way i write is pretty disorganised, usually i start in the middle of a scene and then figure out how it begins, and either way i have to re-arrange things bc they don’t come to me in the right order even if i manage to find the beginning right from the get-go etc etc and that’s hard to fix when you’re writing by hand. on the other hand, margins notes. love those.

5) Would you rather be popular among many readers, or unpopular, but loved by critics?

who cares what the critics say give me the massive adoring fandom i want it

6) Do you listen to music while you write? What is the best writing music?

yes. i can’t concentrate if it isn’t 100% quiet or i have music on to block irregular noise (~spd~). usually i just stick with whatever i’m playing over and over again that month bc that means that it’ll fade into the background easily

7) Do people you’ve met find their way into your writing?

i don’t meet people and i’m horribly unobservant, so no. i’d like them to but i’m Not Good with real-life people. my fictional faves do though, does that count? i have so many keyleths...
