Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts

Im gonna do a more in-dept and spoiler-y post later but for this one im just gonna gush about this show without spoilers lol

Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeast was an AMAZING ride! It wasn’t perfect but it got pretty damn close!

Pros:

amazing plot and story progression

Characters were great and fleshed out

the world building was fleshed out enough to keep attention (i hope that a side book/explanation comes out tho bc i want to nerd out with that lol!)

the music was SO FUCKING AMAZING OMG best soundtrack ever. Very close to Spiderman into the spider-verse but this show did it is better (not knocking Spiderman ITSV but there were some misses with it’s choices of music but again that’s just my opinion)

animation and art is so cool and different! Very nice to look at. Reminded me of that old Jumanji the series (back in the 90s-early 2000s lol) but much prettier. I compare it bc it’s so stylistic and eye catching but yea Kipo did a better job.

Cons:

most or all of these “Cons” are 100% my own opinions bc the show was pretty amazing. Like at this point im nitpicking lol

Kipo, Dave, and Benson were sometimes annoying but nothing too extreme and it did not ruin the show but i found myself kinda going “oh man cmon move on already) but that was very few times

Some of the plots to some episodes were meh but again, it didnt need to be 100% all the time but i just noticed that

It felt kinda rushed but not in a bad way just kinda noticeable. You can tell that they wanted to do 10 episodes then tease a second season. And AGAIN not terrible bc i liked the face pace of it but if it was smoother transition that would have been great. Now with the tease for second season im sure they will ease into the story)

There were like 1 point (i wont spoil it here) that i was confused but honestly it was on like the one filler episode in the series of 10 episodes so im pretty sure that was why. It was at the end of that episode that was important i get that but the first half of it i was like “huh?”

yea thinking about the cons it’s really just my own nitpicking but

honestly in my own ranking I’m giving Kipo a 9/10 it was an amazing show that I hope gets acknowledged outside tumblr

I was watching a youtuber recently on animation and they said something along the lines of “since media like on the big screen (like Disney etc) has been kinda failing on the animation market, ppl have been going to other places for their animation (like Netflix etc) and the quality is really there for those smaller productions” and i agree. I havent watched shows like Hilda or Klaus yet but it’s on my list but even i know that they have been filling the gaps that Disney and other animation studios had left (lets be honest they have been failing pretty hard for a while :/ i mean other than Spiderverse and all that but like im just saying)

And not meaning to snub other shows where a girl is in a different world plot that has been happening (ive seen a little of Amphibia and watched the first Owl House) and while Amphibia has only one season and Owl House just came out, I felt that Kipo just captured that different world lore that both kinda failed to do. That isn’t saying that both series failed completely (Amphibia has a very cool premise but it didnt keep my interest long and Owl House JUST came out so it hasnt gotten the chance to wow me) and considering that Kipo isnt a different world - it’s our world 200 years after some society downfall with Kipo being a “burrow or mole person that never been on the surface - it is kinda different. But that doesnt chance the fact that Kipo hooked me the very first episode so im just saying lol Same with twelve forever. That actually hooked me first few episodes but it’s not even comparable to Kipo or Amphibia or OH so yea)

Anyways, I have hopes that Kipo will get a second season but im always cautious bc Netflix has a reputation of dropping successful shows ESPECIALLY if it’s something as expensive as animation (it doesnt happen too often but ive seen other shows dropped and yea)

Either way, im very impressed!

OMG HI!!! I AM SO SORRY I DIDN'T ANSWER THIS SOONER AHHHHH, also I just wrote up a REALLY long answer here and then accidentally deleted it and so I'm gonna try to recreate it but UGH TUMBLR

But yeah I'm so sorry, I really wanted to do the friendship anons thing and then it got insane here last week to where I couldn't get online much; so on top of all the craziness I've already been dealing with, I'm right in the epicenter of the really bad smoke from the west coast fires and it's BAD. Like first of all I'm sure you've seen the pics of all the crazy colors the sky has been, and it's crazier irl. And I'm right at the place where the air quality is so bad it's literally off the charts, it's been above "hazardous" and you're not supposed to go outside without a full respirator and like people have been scrambling to make air filters with box fans and this stuff is so THICK visibility has been so bad like they've had to shut down roads and like for a bit the main I5 bridge between Vancouver and Portland, you couldn't see the car in front of you like if it breaks, it was that thick. And this smoke is like... it's not like when you sit by a campfire and that smoke blows in your face or if you walk through cigarette smoke... this stuff you choke on and it's so caustic it BURNS eyes, throat, chest/lungs.. and like it's smells so strong of burning plastic /other super toxic stuff it's made me gag and throw up so many times. It's bad. And the ash is getting everywhere too, people are saying it reminds them of when Mt. St. Helens erupted. Rain has started to come in some areas but that brings issues too like mudslides from all that ash and the fire ruining root systems etc. Oh and the power has kept going out either bc of downed trees or in some places they had to shut it off to try and prevent starting more fires. So those were more times I couldn't get online. I've been wearing my heaviest duty mask but am trying to work out getting a respirator from one of the amazing mutual aid groups that's set up in Portland to help all those affected by/displaced by the fires and smoke. It's been a beautiful thing to see, how much the community has come together like that- and all out of mostly the people who were protesting/press/medics downtown Portland, they all mobilized to form mutual aid to take care of pretty much every need you can think of. They're driving around and telling people to just dm them if you need something and they'll bring it. I haven't found any close to me though yet and idk if they wanna cross the bridge so. But it's a silver lining just seeing that you know. So many people had to evacuate with nowhere to go and couldn't take anything and I know people who's homes burnt down and the community helped so much. Anyways,

So to your question!!! Well now like as of right now today I'm finally listening to folklore because I had the chance. But previous to that, I'd been kinda going between Lover, Afterglow, and Treacherous; and here's the weird reason why, so I sing but never in public but I mean maybe someday and I used to be better but I discovered I got really rusty I've not been able to excersize my vocals at all and so I went to sing along to Lover and realized how off key I was and long story short was talking with my husband about how I have a hard time deciding what key to sing in because I like can sing really high or low and have a hard time in between and it just sounds weird but like when I sing like Treacherous, I sing low and it like, fits my natural sound if that makes sense? So I decided to play around with Lover and Afterglow, 2 of my top Lover songs, but sang it in my own key and changed up the vocals a bit to kinda make my own mix and so I've been kinda going over those in my head a lot. So yeah hope you like super long answers! Ahh again I'm so sorry I failed this so badly, if you want to keep sending more I'll be here now! Favourite character: Dr.+Captain Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce, the one and only, and love of my life even though he really shouldn’t be

Funniest character: They’re… all hilarious in their own ways…. I love Hawkeye’s punning, Trapper’s one-liners, Frank’s patheticness, Klinger’s sheer zaniness…. Though Hawkeye and Trapper have had me in tears of laughter the most out of everyone, so I guess them

Best-looking character: None of them are especially handsome/pretty or anything, but I’ll go with pre-mustache BJ. I have yet to see anyone else pull off a pink henley like he did.

3 favourite ships: I don’t romantically ship anyone. I like how Hawkeye and Margaret’s relationship develops, the Radar/Henry father-son dynamic is adorable, and Frank and Margaret did make for some comedy gold even though she deserves sooooo much better than him.

Least favourite character: I honestly love all of the main cast. A lot of the one-off military brass higher-ups were complete assholes, so I guess one of them? I know this is cheating but so there.

Least favourite ship: I don’t see romantic Hawkeye/Trapper or Hawkeye/BJ (sorry 90% of the MASH fandom), so those, even though I love both friendships.

Reason why I watch it: The quality comedy, the zany characters, and the hope and humanity that (usually) persists even in the middle of the most depressing circumstances there could be. The show (and especially Hawkeye) was also one of the main things that helped me get through a pretty rough patch in my life, so, yeah, I’m eternally grateful for Alan Alda’s existence.

Why I started watching it: It would be on TV and my mom would sometimes watch it and I just kinda got sucked in

Reylo. Sorry. But no. I hate that fucker and Rey deserves so much better.

OHHHH YES. Many times.

Not in Star Wars, at least, but that’s because I don’t ship anyone anyway. Except for Han/Leia and Kylo/purgatory. Those I do ship.

6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

Nope

7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

The oversaturation of TFA stuff (especially when compared to Rogue One, which was, imo, a FAR superior movie but doesn’t have a third as much fandom recognition) cooled my feelings toward TFA somewhat. I still like it, but in more of a “whatever, it’s alright” sort of way.

8. Have you received anon hate? What about?

Pfft no I’m not that important

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

Kylo. Whiny little pissbaby. I don’t like Anakin either, but at least he had REASONS why he was such a tortured little whiner. Kylo doesn’t have any of those backstory sads, he’s just a not-so-little emo fuck with a nonsensical boner for the dark side.

Jabba and Palpatine are also terrible people, and I really do not understand the fandom’s obsession with Hux. He’s so boring. He’s just….. occasionally kinda there.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

Attack of the Clones is irredeemably terrible in every single way. Sorry. (Not.) Though the Padme+Anakin “““romance”““ is especially cringeworthy.

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

I don’t see enough love for Qui-Gon Jinn and his fuck-the-council-I-do-what-I-want poncho-wearing fabulousness

I like the ewoks. Fight me.

I think I’ve slandered Kylo enough for the time being

God forbid Star Wars ever becomes an anime…..

16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?

The entire prequels tbh. Just…. scrap them entirely, rewrite them from scratch so they actually make sense, practical effects > cgi, and hire a halfway competent director.

17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…

Instead of Padme dying because “she lost the will to live” (?????) I’d have made her start what eventually becomes the rebellion and die in a way that actually means something and makes sense for her character. And wait a few years for that death so Leia actually CAN remember her like she claims to in RotJ.

18. Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased?

Uh…. what the fuck is this asking…… people can have different opinions and also everyone has biases……..? there is no ~objective shipping truth~ that people must be in denial from…….? what the fuck

19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?

Shippers. That goes for any and every fandom.

I guess Finn/Rey or Finn/Poe is as “““pure”““ as it gets. Have I ever mentioned that I hate tumblr’s obsession with “““purity”““, by the way? Because I do. I fucking despise it.

If we’re talking literal ships, then the Millennium Falcon is the most perfect piece of junk in the entire galaxy.

21. What are your thoughts on crack ships?

I mean, smugglers and drug dealers have to make a living too, though personally I think that captaining a crack ship would be too dangerous.

22. Popular character you hate?

Never mind I guess I’m not done bashing Kylo yet. Also, Yoda’s a reasonably interesting character but god I hate him and his terrible TERRIBLE black-and-white outlook on the world. Most of the Jedi Council is guilty of that, actually. I kinda hate them all.

I think I’ve already mentioned Qui-Gon and Bodhi

24. Would you recommend XXX to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes because for all its flaws Star Wars (the original trilogy at the very least) is a classic and deservedly so. It’s such a great archetypal underdog story with wonderful characters and action and MUSIC, DEAR GOD THE MUSIC, ALL HAIL JOHN WILLIAMS FOREVER AND EVER AMEN

25. How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX?

I mean, Star Wars as a whole is still ongoing. I’d change quite a few things in TFA, especially the whole Han/Leia (lack of a) thing. That was so unnecessary.

26. Most shippable character?

Han Solo spends his life in various spaceships, so probably him. Luke, Poe, Rey, and Anakin also qualify, as they have plenty of spaceship time.

27. Least shippable character?

Do we ever see Jabba on a ship? I think he’d be too heavy and take up too much space, personally. He should stay on the ground.

1. Have you ever broken a bone? How? Yeah I broke my wrist bc I stopped my bike too quick and I like flipped over my bike handles.

2. Do you have any nervous habits? I pop my knuckles and wrist/ankles (but only the one wrist bc since i broke the other it’s just unnatural and I can’t) and I have a tendency to bite my lip but it’s more of a thinking thing and less of a nervous habit.
