PX-09 Mors (3rd party War For Cybertron Starscream)

I bought this 3rd party ‘War For Cybertron’ styled Starscream based off of the 2010 video game (not to be confused with the current 2019-2020 ‘War For Cybertron’ toyline) off of BigBadToyStore after watching a really entertaining review by Youtuber JobbyTheHong. At the time of purchase (which was March or April 2020) he was being sold for about $45. I had the money, so I picked it up.

Vehicle Mode:

Vehicle mode is a Cybertronian jet, taking ques from the fan favorite G1 tetra jet, but not entirely. The War For Cybertron game (which Mors is based off that design)

The jet mode has minimal paint deco, it’s mostly unpainted plastic, and I think it’s quality plastic too. 

I’m not going to lie I’m not a fan of this alt mode. I get the basic layout, it’s an alien jet with inverted wings and big guns but holding this in my hands it wasn’t as solid as I would have liked.

You can tell this isn’t as much a jet as it is a folded up robot; it doesn’t look like a solid object but more of along the lines of several objects, if I’m making any sense here.

The maneuvering thrusters had a tendency to shift around a bit, it’s not a huge deal, but one that was a little frustrating.

I do wish the wings were a little bit larger, I feel like they’re just too small.

The Cybertronian jet does have landing skids; wheels would be preferable, but this works.

I do like the overall look of the jet, but I have to point out all of its foibles after all.

Transformation:

I’m not gonna lie, I was not a fan of this transformation.

One quality for a proper Transformer, or a 3rd party Transforming robot to be successful in my opinion, the conversion process should be fun and/or challenging (it is kind of a puzzle after all). 

Pro tip: You need to be sober to transform this toy, because it is not fun, and if you’re not paying attention you might stick yourself on some of the sharp plastic points on the toy, and flip and swivel things that I don’t think always lines up very well. So Mors meets the challenge qualification, but I also think it’s an annoying on as well. 

Robot Mode:

On the contrast I really like the robot mode!

On the whole the War For Cybertron games usually had an overly chunky, almost bloated and busy robot modes, and Mors (Starscream) is no different, but I like it.

Again, I think the wings are just too small. It just doesn’t seem right to have a Seeker which has under developed wings...The official toy had the same problem. I would bring the toy out, however it’s in storage.

Mors is a figure with a lot of personality, and he poses pretty well. Whatever my complaints are about the jet, the aesthetics, or the wings being too small, or whatever, Mors can pose like a champ; the hooves are stable, the joints are firm; this all makes it worth having  as far as I’m concerned!

That face sculpt...It’s good, don’t get me wrong, however it’s such a narrow, hard angled lines, and a intense scowl which is very ‘un-Starscream-like’ that I can only best describe as a ‘Power Pout’.

Accessories:

Starscream’s accessories are based more off of the videogame, and not of the Hasbro toy.

He comes with two guns, which can peg onto any 5mm port, and the pegs are hinged, so they can articulate up and down, an Energon mace, and you can’t have a Starscream without his crown (which wasn’t in the game).

In my humble opinion the guns are just too big and awkward. They looks nice, they’re sculpted well, and I kind of dig the hinged handles, but they’re just too big and clumsy looking. I think they might be based on guns used in the game, but I don’t quite remember; I haven’t played it in years since I lend it to my friend who lives in Virginia, and I haven’t seen it since; ARE YOU READING THIS MARK! GIVE ME BACK MY GAME!.

Back to the subject of the mace I don’t think it befits Starscream well at all. I get it, that it was in the game as part of his melee attack, but I just don’t see Starscream using a weapon as brutish as a spike mace. Oh, and by the way...those spikes are really sharp.

The crown is nice touch. It fits on Starscream’s head well and it just looks cool, even if it doesn’t make an appearance in the games; it’s a nice Easter egg to future events..

Final Thoughts:

For $45 I think I got my money’s worth. This toy is NOT perfect, however it’s fun; at least the robot mode is.

I guess a bigger issue I have (more than the transformation) is that he doesn’t scale with anything. He’s too tall to be a voyager, too short to hang with the leader classes, and forget trying to display him with a Masterpiece figure; it just won’t work. Mors stands a lone, I’m sure he’d scale in well with other Planet X figures, just no with any of the official stuff.
