Sometimes he would sing songs from his favourite musical, Phantom of the Opera, whilst he was working and the reverb in the empty ice skating rink was pretty choice. Unbeknownst to him his booming voice carried outside through the air vents to the village and the locals would gather outside the ice rink to hear his magnificent singing. Juicy Jumbo acrylic on canvas 24 x 60 x 1.5 inches 2013 $1320 CAD Summer weather’s got me reminiscing about this painting of a giant hot dog shaped piggy I painted 7 summers ago 🐷 Is it bad I find pigs so adorable but hot dogs so yummy? One could say this painting came out of internal conflict. There’s a cute creepiness to this painting I’ll admit. Was the big genetically modified to fit my desire for a juicy jumbo? Enticing and sexy the way she holds herself showing off the heart shaped glimmer on her butt. There are several items hidden in the back ground: a pickle, a cherry, a beachball, a pill, a couple flowers popping out in colour, a snail and my signature embedded into the pattern. All family friendly cheery symbols of summer, except the pill, I wonder what that’s about? 2013 was the year I graduated nursing school, maybe I was just coming out of a pharmacology exam.. I don’t like to censor my thoughts or stick to hyper rigid themes in art making. I could give a toss what a big weirdo I must make out to be. I’m human, you’re human, I can’t be the only one struggling with these thoughts. Some ideas are better left to art I say, this piggy is likely one of them. It comes with a secret squirt of ketchup and mustard at the top too. All 4 sides come painted so no frame required and complete with hanging wire in the back it is read for your enjoyment! My Inner Twins by Heather Marie Scholl

Heather Marie Scholl is a fashion and fiber based artist who addresses both contemporary and historical social issues with emotionality.  By bridging her academic past (BA in Race, Gender and Sexuality) with her fashion background (MA in Fashion and Knitwear design) Scholl brings a unique perspective to embroidery art.  She explores issues like sexuality, gender, sexual trauma and domestic abuse, and racism and white supremacy through her work.  Her first installation show, “Sometimes It’s Hard to be a Woman”, was funded in part by the Brooklyn Arts Council and was a featured show on The Huffington Post. Scholl’s ongoing series of surrealist self-portraits have been seen in several NYC and LA galleries, including the annual show “Stitch Fetish” In L.A. and “Who’s Afraid of Feminism?” an online exhibit and print catalog curated by the Women’s Art Caucus, A.I.R. and The Elizabeth Sackler Center.  She is currently works out of her studio at The Living Gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
