Nightmare - May Prompt (15)

“S’alright.”

“Oh god, no. Please. Don’t do this.”

This cannot be happening. This is worse than the worst versions of his nightmares, the ones where he’s shot to death in Afghanistan, where he doesn’t hand Sherlock his phone, he doesn’t move into 221B, he doesn’t fall in love, the ones where Sherlock jumps and stays dead. 

This is Sherlock actually dying in John’s arms. 

“You’re Sherlock Holmes, you’re indestructible,” and the first tear leaks out of the corner of his eye as his voice breaks. His heart’s already done, a portent of things to come.

Through the pain Sherlock laughs, mostly a gurgling gasp now. Many injuries are survivable. This one is not. John knows they won’t be getting Chinese at the end of Baker Street tonight. 

“I wish,” is all Sherlock says. His eyes droop a little, anchored still on John. He’s tired.

John presses firmly over the wound until his fingers turn white, then stain a deep red.

“You’re not going to die. You can’t die.”

Sherlock breathes. Slowly smiles. 

“Sorry, John.” His fading moonlight eyes. “Human…human being.”

A love like theirs will live beyond the next moment, will transcend the singular second when one of them has to leave the other behind. 

Their love is not forever. 

What they have reaches far beyond a word like that.

getting into cringy og tumblr fandoms (superwholock, homestuck, merlin ect.) now makes me feel sad. the fandom itself isnt gone, its just older now. like no real new content is being made by the original creators and the fandom is in their mid20s and 30s. everything cool and crazy already happened. its like “remember when *the crazy fandom thing* happened? omg that was insane” and now im left alone with no one my age liking the things i like. i feel left out and like ijust want people to like the same things i like in the same way. people now are too good at art and cosplay and shit. no one makes shitty ship art and fansongs the way they used to. i haven’t seen a conventionally unattractive person do a shitty closet cosplay with no extreme makeup or accessories. All of this does not apply to homestuck btw, this fandom has stayed the worst and the best forever. as it should be. i feel like im not really missing out because were all still the same as they were in like 2013. still fucking insane, i love the homestuck fandom

I missed the first day and I couldn’t put this all to bed without finishing properly.

CW: Major character deaths. This is sad.

Rosie leaves the top of the urn open as she walks.

They’d planned this. They’d sat her down long ago and told her about the perils of their work, how everything could come crashing down at any moment. They'd told her exactly what they wanted, if the worst came to pass. She’d known what to do and how and when to do it.

The worst hadn’t come to pass for a very long time. She will always be grateful for that.

She moves quietly through the apple blossoms, the birches, the rows of blooming lime trees with their tiny white starfish. A bit of London in the Downs, they’d said, as they planted memories for the last time. 

She walks to the bottom of the garden, to the gap in the hedgerows where the view stretches on for easy, wandering miles. A favourite spot, she knew, and the one they’d requested.

Her father went first, in the end. Her dad, eight months after. She took a strange comfort in that, as difficult as it was to lose them both within a year. They were never good at being apart.

“You’re together now.”

She blinks away sudden tears as she holds the two people who loved her most in all the world. 

“Goodbye, Boppa and Sock.” 

She joins them to the earth.

The adventures of Boppa and Sock have come to a sad but peaceful end. The trees in their garden are from the 3rd prompt, with Sherlock pining for John as he walks through the park.
