My passion for music, hard work, practice, and a curious mind have always pushed me forward and allowed me to see beyond the imaginable. Today I am proud and happy to share with you that I have completed and released a project for the BBC. The Radiophonic Travel Agency is a new audio and visual experience from the New BBC Radiophonic Workshop which has been working with BBC Research & Development to transport you to other locations through the power of sound. The BBC Radiophonic Workshop was one of the sound effects units of the BBC, created in 1958 to produce incidental sounds and new music for radio and, later, television. The unit is known for its experimental and pioneering work in electronic music and music technology, as well as its popular scores for programs such as Doctor Who and Quatermass and the Pit during the 1950s and 1960s. Its members included pioneers in electronic music like Daphne Oram and Delia Derbyshire to name a few. Being extremely interested in experimental and avant-garde music, including having used field recordings in much of my original work, my eyes got very wide when I saw an Electronic Sound Magazine article about the BBC Radiophonic Travel Agency calling for field recordists to submit their work to be included. I gave them a 5-minute sample of a recent trip to Lake Michigan and was over the moon to be asked to submit a full journey of sounds through Detroit and Michigan. All of my field recordings of Detroit & Michigan are available as journeys through the BBC at the link in my bio.
