Toei Tokusatsu World and the Mysterious Comedy Series
In a rare move from the Toei company, and to help people with the current events, Toei has started officially releasing their older tokusatsu (special effects) shows in their new youtube channel Toei Tokusatsu World Official.
Most of these shows have english subtitles, many for the first time ever! And with this cute little ninja fox as the mascot!
There is a lot of variety even if the Sentai series are off-limits due to copyright shenanigans. There are several classics like Android Kikaider and Robot Detective, many of the Metal Heroes series like Jaspion and Winspector, oddities like the somewhat Ultraman-related Captain Ultra, and there’s even an entry from the Kamen Rider series: the gritty 90s movie Shin Kamen Rider: Prologue.
But not only that! The channel is also very generous to the fans of cuteness!
Toei has had several branches of Tokusatsu shows througout the decades, the most popular are easily Kamen Rider, Super Sentai and Metal Heroes, but there is another one that ran from the early 80s to the early 90s, called Toei Fushigi Comedy Series, fushigi meaning “mysterious”, wich focused on cute monsters, cute robots and cute girl superheroes!
They are cute, they are weird, they are full of puppets, and they are highly recommended to check out!
Here’s a list of the shows available, I don’t know wich are blocked by region (to be updated):
Robot 8-Chan [ep 1, ep 2] (robot)
Batten Robomaru [ep 1, ep 2] (robot)
Pettonton [ep 1, ep 2] (monster)
Nemulin [ep 1, ep 2] (monster)
Kamitaman [ep 1, ep 2] (monster)
Marin Gumi [ep 1, ep 2] (superheroine)
Hard Gumi [ep 1, ep 2] (superheroine)
Magical Girl Chukana Paipai [ep 1, ep 2] (superheroine)
Magical Girl Chukana Ipanema [ep 1, ep 2] (superheroine)
Poitrine [ep 1, ep 2] (superheroine)
Thutmose [ep 1, ep 2] (superheroine)
Utau! Dairyugujo [ep 1, ep 2] (superheroine)
All the shows available have at minimun two episodes each as of this writing. The channel is scheluded to keep uploading more episodes of different shows as time goes on, but keep in mind that the more popular series are more likely to get episodes sooner, so if you end up liking any of these entries then consider supporting them with views, likes, comments, sharing etc!
Just keep in mind that all these shows are decades old and come from a country that for many is foreign, meaning they may have some moments and jokes that are not to some/many people’s tastes, like depictions of violence as funny.
With that said, and of course, this being a Godzilland blog I inmediatly directed my atention to the three “monster” shows: the ET-inspired alien Pettenton, the sleepy fairy Nemulin and the mischievous god Kamitaman:

errrm...Toei has that show ready on their channel, like, the first two episodes. It’s not that their efforts aren’t appreciated, but we should support the legit stuff whenever possible since the rest of the series will be uploaded in 2 episode batches a week.

Cult TV Essentials: Batten Robomaru Batten Robomaru was created by Shotaro Ishinomori and produced by Toei. It ran for 51 episodes between October 1982 and September 1983.

Note
What exactly is the Toei Fushigi Comedy Series? I've seen a lot of tokusatsu associated with it.
It was a series of programs created by Shotaro Ishinomori (the creator of Kamen Rider, Himitsu Sentai Goranger and Kikaider) with a more light hearted feel. The included cute robot shows, magical animals, magical thieves and in the end a series of magical girls shows before it ended in 1993.
It wasn’t as thematically consistent as the Kamen Rider, Super Sentai or Metal Hero franchises but it did give viewers something new with each show.
Sadly, as it is not very well known in the West and didn’t get an Americanized adaptation like Super Sentai, Kamen Rider Black RX or a few of the Metal Heroes shows, it’s not really very prominent in the fandom.
Here is a list of the shows and when they aired:
Robot 8-chan (ロボット8ちゃん) -October 4, 1981, to September 26, 1982
Batten Robomaru (バッテンロボ丸) -October 3, 1982, to September 25, 1983
Pettonton (ペットントン) -October 2, 1983 to August 26, 1984
Dokincho! Nemurin (どきんちょ!ネムリン) -September 2, 1984, to March 31, 1985
Katteni! Kamitaman (勝手に!カミタマン) - April 7, 1985, to March 30, 1986
Morimori Bokkun (もりもりぼっくん) -April 6 to December 28, 1986
Omoikkiri Tanteidan Hadogumi (おもいっきり探偵団 覇悪怒組) - January 11 to December 27, 1987
Jaman Tantei-dan Maringumi (じゃあまん探偵団 魔隣組) -January 10, 1988, to January 1, 1989
Magical Chinese Girl Pai Pai! (魔法少女ちゅうかなぱいぱい!) - January 9 to July 9, 1989
Magical Chinese Girl Ipanema! (魔法少女ちゅうかないぱねま!) - July 23 to December 24, 1989
La Belle Fille Masquée Poitrine (美少女仮面ポワトリン) - January 7 to December 30, 1990
Mysterious Nile Girl Thutmose (不思議少女ナイルトトメス) -January 6 to December 29, 1991
Utau! Dai Ryugujo (うたう!大龍宮城) - January 5 to December 27, 1992

This guy was going on about “Pochi” this entire time and I honestly thought he was talking about a dog. But no, it’s a dinosaur robot wearing a bowtie. This is amazing, I love it.
