What are Tom and Allison's role in the Slime Rancher AU? If they don't exist there, could I please here more about them in Requirement AU? Your recent art was really lovely and I wanna know more. <3

As for Slime Rancher AU, the two of them are slimes on the ranch. Tom is a Rock Slime and Allison is an Angel Phosphor Slime! Both later get turned inky during Joey’s experiments.

They don’t have as much content as some of the other slimes so far, but after getting made inky, Tom ended up being VERY protective of Allison - especially since Sammy kept stealing all the cuberries to give to Susie instead, leaving not a lot of food for Allison. Tom... isn’t fond of Sammy for a while.

Cleaned up an old scribble I did a few months back. Unsure of how canon this is to Slime Rancher AU just yet but, I made a slime version of BatIM OC lad Peter.

He’s a puddle slime who knew Jack, before Jack ended up on the ranch and turned inky.

Alas, I need to redraw my sketches for slime Allison and Tom, so I don’t have that to share. But instead, I have this:

Have some special Ink Slime formes, as demonstrated by Jack!

Ink Slimes, like their plorts, have the ability to copy information/DNA/”data” from other creatures and items they’re in long term contact with.

Because the slimes themselves are living (unlike the plorts), they have much more control over this - so they won’t copy traits from everything they come in contact with. But, long term contact with other slimes will often lead to them copying traits from other slime types.

This is partially a social thing - sort of like mirroring in cats. They can copy a few traits, either physical or personality wise (or both!) in order to fit in more with other slimes. It’s not permanent, and the traits copied aren’t always the same, but it is very cute.

Jack might not necessarily interact with the other slimes enough to do this with everyone, but I drew up a version for every other slime type on the ranch so far, just to show what they might look like!

Do you ship human Henry with anyone in the slime au? Like Joey?

Already answered about Henry/Joey in this ask, but for the sake of thinking, other Henry ships in Slime Rancher AU:

I mean... Henry/Linda is a given, probably, since it’s canon to the AU.

Linda was the main reason Henry got into slime ranching in the first place! She had a lot of serious medical issues, ones with no clear cure or solution in sight. In order to fund all the medical treatments she needed, Henry signed up to become a Slime Rancher with Joey, and left for the Far Far Range.

Things went okay this way for a while - Henry stayed in contact with Linda as much as he could while he was away, and sent back as much money as he could from his earnings on the ranch. They both missed each other a lot, but tried to make things work as best they could.

Ultimately, the slime ranching didn’t work out for the two - Linda’s health was declining and even with the ranching money, it didn’t seem like they’d be able to find anything that could help. So, Henry quit ranching and moved back to Earth, to be with her in her final years.

It... took him a while, to move on, probably. He’ll still probably always love her, even if he moves on and falls in love with other people too.

...other than Henry/Linda... I’m, not sure if there are many other possible ships to ship with Henry in Slime Rancher AU - aside from the slimes, though I feel like even with them being more sapient and being able to turn humanoid and such, he’d still probably feel weird about like, dating them? Leave that to Joey, hah.

I uh, guess, you could make a case for Henry/Bertrum...???

...I suggested this as a joke but I’m hesitantly on board, actually. They can bond over having to deal with the mess Joey caused and left behind, and slowly work together to fix things. Maybe Henry could even help Bertrum achieve his goals in a more legitimate fashion.

It’s definitely not canon, but it’s not bad, honestly.

What is the ship Joey x Henry like in the slime ranch au?

It’s sorta there! This one’s a little complex.

Prior to Henry leaving the Far Far Range, Joey definitely loved Henry, whether he knew it or not. So far away from Earth, it was easy to forget that Henry had a wife.

But, Henry did, in fact, still have a wife, and he still loved her a lot - and he loved Joey, but as a friend. So when Henry needed to return to Earth to be with his wife, Joey was, well. Heartbroken seems like an understatement.

After Henry’s return, Joey/Henry could be on the table, but it’ll take them a lot of work to reach that point. And... I think, actually, a lot of that would come down to Joey’s feelings on things, actually?

After being found, half slime and near death in the wilderness, after all of the things he did, terrible things, for a goal that he never even managed to achieve... A goal that, by this point, I think he’d realise would have never worked to bring Henry back in the first place...

His self esteem probably also doesn’t help much. Before Henry left, he was pretty confident in himself. Kept up his appearance, was pretty physically fit, etc. Whereas after Henry finds him, he’s... a lot different. He’s a weird mixture of human and inky slime. He’s pretty physically weak, and struggles to do a lot of stuff he used to be able to.

Heck, he even struggles with his form, too - on his worse days, he can’t even keep his legs properly formed, and relies on Henry’s help for things. He probably feels... like quite a lot of a burden, actually, with how much Henry needs to help him due to his own mistakes.

I don’t think Joey would think it possible for Henry to love him, after everything he’s done, and with how different he is now.

On the other hand, Henry I could see (very) slowly getting used to Joey. Helping him recover more, looking after him, helping him as he slowly attempts to make up for the things he did... Over time, that friendship would slowly come back, I think.

He did still care about Joey - part of the reason he returned was because he wanted to check if Joey was safe. (He’d originally discovered an SOS signal being sent to his old Slime Ranching gear, while cleaning out old things after Linda passed away.) 

Anyway, Henry’s affection could slowly develop into romantic feelings, but it’d be a bit of a slowburn for him to realise his feelings, to rekindle his friendship with Joey and work through this situation.

I think, Henry would probably also need to make the first move there too. Joey probably wouldn’t want to initiate anything - after all their history together, would he really deserve that? Henry would deserve better, right?

It’s an option, but it’d take a lot of recovery and working through things together.

...and maybe, some time in the future, the two could sit under the stars on the ranch and lean against each other, maybe hold hands a little. Maybe, little a smooch. Good content.

What is the ship Joey x Slime Henry like in the Slime Henry au? Does Joey kiss Slime Henry like he does with Slime Sammy? Since you said that Henry would be one of Joey's favorite slimes?

Alas, Slime Henry and Joey wouldn’t work for that, because human slimes wouldn’t exist in the Slime Henry version of events.

In regular Slime Rancher AU, the thing that led to human slimes was the experiments with ink plorts - which Joey only ended up making during his attempts to get Henry to stay. He wanted something amazing and revolutionary, to prove to Henry that he should stay, that things were successful here, that he should come back to the ranch again.

In the Slime Henry AU AU, Joey has no need to do experiments. He’s not trying to make artificial gold plorts to prove he’s successful and get Henry to stay with him. He has Henry, right here! Who cares about being successful, or making great discoveries. He doesn’t need that, it won’t get him anything he wants.

(Of course, that does beg the question of why Joey is so obsessed with this one slime. Henry’s a Special Style slime, sure, but they’re not that rare. But, Slime Henry AU AU isn’t one that I’m super interested in developing, so I probably won’t work that out!)

If Henry was a slime, what would his relationship with the other slimes be like? Since shipping between slimes is a thing in this au, who would slime henry be shipped with? Susie, Sammy, or Norman possibly?

We’re into some Heavily Hypothetical Content now, folks! This is all non-canon for slime AU. :V

If Henry actually were a slime in the AU, I feel like a lot of the relationships between the slimes would be different. A lot of the slime experiment stuff was caused by Henry leaving, so none of that would have happened in a Henry-as-a-slime AU - so the slimes personalities wouldn’t be as extreme, no angry Susie slime, no Tarr-worshipping Sammy, etc.

BUT, if we’re just going generally based on general slime personalities...

Honestly, I think, I’d ship Henry slime with... everyone?

In most situations I see the slimes all just having one big interconnected relationship rather than only being shipped with specific characters. And even then, Henry feels like he’d be close to a lot of the slimes.

Henry as a character, I see as being like a capybara, honestly - that aura of calm and chill that just makes people seem pretty at ease around him? So slime Henry would get along pretty good with most everyone else on the ranch, and also try and help the others to get along with each other better too.

He’d still have his moments of frustration at the others - Wally causing trouble, Norman jumping out at people, Sammy’s general grouchiness, and so on. He’d be good at getting the other slimes to play nicer with each other, but would have a harder time sticking up for himself, and would just put up with some stuff.

I don’t think it would be dealbreaker or anything like that, though. He’d still care about the others even if he got annoyed at them - he just might give himself some breathing room and go spend some time with the more chill slimes like Jack or Grant to destress.

But yeah, so, most sets of slimes would work well with Henry! Sammy is likely to grouch, but Henry is non-judgemental so Sammy would be able to be himself more around him. Norman and Henry would probably spend a lot of time hanging out hidden away, just relaxing and watching other people on the ranch.

Now that I’m thinking, I think one combination that’d work real nice is Henry and Tom, actually? Tom’s much less willing to put up with nonsense from other slimes than Henry, so I think he’d be able to stand up for Henry a bit more and get the other slimes to stop messing with Henry when he’s stressed out. Then in return, Henry’s chill vibes would be good for Tom to have as company.

Tom tends to be pretty on edge as a Rock Slime, and if provoked enough he will end up getting pointy and rolling and physical with people. But with Henry around, I think he’d be more willing to try and stay calmer - especially since the fighting would stress Henry out more. Between Allison and Henry’s influence, he’d have good incentive to try and cooperate and compromise more with others.

(This in turn would be good for Tom , since he usually doesn’t get much social interaction with other slimes other than Henry and Allison and maybe Jack. Potentially slime touch-starved, hard to slime stack if you’re constantly at maximum pointy. Also helps to make way for potential Sammy and Tom getting along better too, once they stop fighting over Cuberries for Allison and Susie.)

Anyway, there’s a lot of nice options here for a slime Henry. And one big sleepy slime stack with Henry in the middle is a nice concept.

Yeah! Dang right there's shipping. I don't necessarily think the AU has to be shippy just because they’re humanoid now, but I personally love shipping, so there’s shipping. I just think it’s neat.

(And, just to have it on record, while the original Slime Rancher game's slimes are relatively unintelligent, I consider the slimes in the BatIM Slime Rancher AU to be more intelligent than you might think. They're still slimes, so it's not like they'd naturally know about human concepts. They have their own slime concepts they know more about. But they're able to learn and understand human stuff easier than you might think.)

Anyway, on to shipping thoughts. Putting this under a read more, since I accidentally rAMBLED FOR 20 YEARS.

First, and one that I feel is very important, is that the slimes have no real concept of exclusive relationships. It's a basically unknown concept to them, and nobody's taught them about it, so it just wouldn't be something they'd think about. All of these slimes are real dang polyamorous.

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean they all get along. There are reasons they might not be fond of other slimes - like Sammy and Tom fighting over the Cuberry supply, or Wally's... uh, being Wally. But generally speaking, they’re not going to consider affection as exclusive.

I also feel like, at least at the start, the slimes wouldn't really get the concepts of friendship and romance being separate. They might learn about that sort of thing eventually, but at least at the start, it's just Strong Affection overall.

Most of the more human interactions the slimes picked up were learnt from Henry or Joey. Hugging in particular would be a big one they got from Henry, and a bunch of other comforting physical touches that require hands. Head pats would be another. While he might be grouchy about it, Sammy is part Tabby, and does love a good pat. Norman too, though you might have a harder time finding him to do that.

As for what they picked up from Joey... Well, uh. Let's just say that somehow, slime Sammy learnt what a kiss was. The action, anyway. He's still not entirely sure of the human implications behind that - it's just a thing you do to people you like, when you're happy? Either way, eventually the concept was passed on to the other slimes, so that's a thing they, for whatever reason, know about doing. And enjoy doing.

It'd take a bit for Henry to find out about all of this - with the slimes in as bad a condition as they were when he returned, it took a lot of care to get them to a point where they were strong and healthy enough to start transforming into human shape again. But once they did start turning humanoid again, well. The human thing was already a shock, but boy howdy, what a surprise to get.

On a different note, the slimes still have their own slime-specific ways of showing affection for each other! Slime stacks is a big one - happy enough slimes always like to try and stack on top of each other. It's a lot more difficult in human form, but that doesn't stop them. It tends to look more like just a big cuddle pile of slimes all snuggled up together. Very cute.

Likewise, individual types of slimes probably have their own specific ways of showing affection, too. Sammy and Norman's cat traits make them likely to try and pounce at people they're happy to see, with varying results due to the difference in their body shape to usual. They also purr when around people they're especially relaxed with.

Susie and Allison are likely to glow brighter in the company of people they care about, and Susie especially will sing for people she cares for. Jack (having originally been a Puddle slime) is extremely shy, but less so around people he cares about and trusts. Tom, as a Rock slime, is more stoic, but very protective of those he cares for. Wally... might steal you things. Or steal from you. Results inconclusive.

As far as actual relationships within the ranch... Things are a little tricky due to the Everything that went on, but there's definitely sets of slimes that care a lot about each other. Sammy is protective over Susie and Jack, and Tom is protective over Allison. Wally and Norman were pretty close from early on.

Even the combinations of slimes that are less friendly, I could see getting along at least a bit, with time. Especially given that they went through all this ink nonsense together, they all understand each other more than outside slimes probably would. Also, more slimes for the cuddle pile slime stack is always a good thing.

what's up with wally in the slime rancher au?

Wally’s a slime! A plain Tangle slime, to be specific.

Wally was one of the original slimes from back before Henry left, and was a bit of a nuisance when it came to the other slimes - though not deliberately. Being a Tangle slime, he’d often end up leaving trails of pollen around the ranch, irritating all the other slimes that came into contact with him. And he would get in contact with other slimes - no matter how often he was put in his corral, he’d always seem to manage to get outta there.

He also had some difficulty getting the concept of some things being given specifically to other slimes, and would often end up unintentionally stealing things from other slimes - be it toys, food, etc.

He got given his own hat after stealing Jack’s, though he still didn’t quite get the memo. Sammy was never really pleased to see Wally around. That, in turn, meant Wally found it a little too amusing to rile Sammy up.

At some point, either Joey or Henry made the mistake of giving Wally some jangly keys as a slime toy. Turns out, Tangle Slime vines are excellent for taking keys and jangling them at other slimes (read: Sammy) to pester them. Of course, whenever Sammy got irritated enough, he’d manage to teleport out of his corral to chase Wally down, and the keys ended up lost more often than not.

Once Henry left, Wally was one of the few slimes on the ranch lucky enough to escape Joey’s experiments, very much intentionally. He saw what was going on, and, well. He got outta there. (I’m not sorry for using that twice.)

He disappeared into the wilderness once he worked out that whatever was going on wasn’t good - probably not long after Norman was turned inky. Norman and Wally both tended to sneak around the ranch outside of their corrals, so they were pretty close. But whatever happened to Norman... well, it just wasn’t right.

When Joey disappeared and Henry returned, Wally probably ended up showing up again. He’d never gone too far away from the ranch, just far enough to be out of Joey’s sight. But Henry - Henry was good, and boy was Wally happy to see a friendlier face who was treating the other slimes nicely again.

... He still probably irritates Sammy though. For old time’s sake.
