Maximizing Space: Designing a Stylish and Functional Bathroom in a Small Area
Tumblr media
Designing abathroom with limited space requires creativity and thoughtful planning to make the most of every inch. With the right strategies, you can transform a small bathroom into a stylish and functional oasis. In this article, we will explore practical tips and design ideas to help you create a beautiful and efficient bathroom, proving that size is not the only factor that determines the appeal of a space.
Prioritize Essentials :
The first step in designing a small bathroom is to identify the essentials. Determine the key elements you cannot do without, such as a toilet, sink, and shower or bathtub. Once you have a clear understanding of the must-haves, you can focus on optimizing the layout to accommodate these elements comfortably. Consider compact fixtures and space-saving alternatives without compromising functionality.
Optimal Layout :
Careful planning of the bathroom layout is crucial in maximizing the available space. Choose a layout that minimizes wasted space and allows for efficient movement within the room. Consider installing fixtures in corners or along walls to create a more open and accessible feel. Additionally, sliding doors or pocket doors can be excellent alternatives to traditional swinging doors, saving valuable floor space.
Smart Storage Solutions
Tumblr media
Storage is often a challenge in small bathrooms, but with creative solutions, you can make the most of every nook and cranny. Wall-mounted shelves and cabinets can free up valuable floor space, while recessed shelves in the shower or above the toilet provide additional storage without sacrificing roominess. Consider multifunctional furniture, such as a vanity with built-in storage or a mirror cabinet, to keep toiletries and essentials organized and easily accessible.
Light and Color
Strategic use of light and color can significantly impact the perception of space in a small bathroom. Opt for light, neutral colors to create an airy and open atmosphere. Maximize natural light by using sheer curtains or frosted glass for windows. Incorporate well-placed mirrors to reflect light and give the illusion of a larger space. Adequate lighting fixtures, such as wall sconces and overhead lights, can enhance the overall brightness and make the bathroom feel more welcoming.
Choose Appropriate Fixtures and Accessories
Selecting the right fixtures and accessories is key in a small bathroom design. Consider compact and streamlined fixtures that match the overall aesthetic while optimizing space. Wall-mounted sinks and floating vanities can create a sense of openness by exposing more floor area. Opt for a shower curtain instead of a bulky shower door, and choose sleek, space-saving accessories to avoid visual clutter. Cohesive design elements contribute to a more harmonious and visually spacious feel.
Conclusion:
Tumblr media
Designing a small bathroom requires a thoughtful approach to layout, storage, and aesthetics. By prioritizing essentials, optimizing the layout, incorporating smart storage solutions, playing with light and color, and choosing appropriate fixtures and accessories, you can transform a compact space into a stylish and functional oasis. Remember, creativity and attention to detail are key in making the most of every inch. Embrace the challenge of designing a small bathroom, and enjoy the satisfaction of creating a space that combines style with efficiency

okay so i see a lot of people talking about “i wish i had two lives: one for god, and one for you” / “i wish i had two lives: both for you” and like god, yes, so sickeningly romantic in the best way. but i just want to talk about the implications. like it really does make me a little insane.
first, david's putting her on the same level as god?! the priority, devotion, belief, love. kristen is saying 'yes, i understand,' she wants both too. she loves their work, she's happy to follow him around investigating miracles & possessions & demons. even as a non-believer, a lapsed catholic. it's one of those 'it doesn't matter if i believe in god, i believe in you' things (VERY mulder/scully coded and it's eating me alive)
like THATS CRAZY!
and because i haven't been seeing anything about it: ben piping in and kristen saying another for ben too just MELTS me. i know david & kristen's relationship is more to the fore, but like. BEN. the things he does for kristen without question, without judgment. if there's anything, it's only concern & care for her, and kristen loves ben so much. i can't actually picture david & kristen without ben there, and i don't think they really can either. they've really created a family together.

this month is really making me feel like a homeowner in the most mundanely stressful ways
I have to replace my toilet because it's falling apart, but it's so old that we have to find one that will fit, and then we have to adjust the connections (thankfully my dad knows how to do this)
my parents are getting a new washing machine so I will be inheriting theirs (this is how I got my stove)
the friends selling my parents their washing machine are also getting rid of their dryer, so I get a lightly-used dryer for cheap (the sensor on mine died so I can only use the time setting)
my mother is once again critiquing my house's siding (it's wood. and we painted it in the middle of a cold snap in March four years ago before I even bought the house so the inspector would quit pitching a fit)
she also has big plans for re-configuring my driveway
and she wants to know when the township will finally fill the hole in the off-street parking area (it now has its own biome)
my dad may be swapping my lawnmower with his so I can quit getting mildly zapped every time I turn mine off via pulling the spark plug (I mowed on Sunday. it ran out of gas with three passes left. my lawn looks so stupid but we're under a flood watch and I will not be mowing until...later)
thankfully the water heater, furnace, windows, and roof are all quite new and/or in working condition!
#this poor silly house#I love it to bits and it is falling to bits#I just need to work up the energy to take care of it a little better than I've been doing#I have a short list of things I need to take care of before August (replace four-to-six blinds with cordless blinds so we can actually use#the blinds since Blythe methodically ate all of the cords and my face destroyed the only cordless set in the house)#I need to shampoo the grungy carpet#the front garden beds have been a blight since the beginning but I don't have the energy for them#same with the gutters and downspouts which sorely need fixing but it's them or new tierods for my car#I also want better insulation in the attic. this is a straightforward process (I've helped blow in insulation before) but $$#and Mom casually pointed out that we could tear out the kitchen carpet and slap down linoleum for nothing#('but the whole floor is warped and cracked.' 'it's fine. linoleum will stick to that')#'I don't want your house. it's old and small and we don't want to stay in Michigan forever. btw here's all of the improvements we can make'#also I would love a vent in the bathroom#like...are any of these pressing issues? not exactly but some of them would really help my house#and the siding is an eyesore up close#on the plus side having two window ac's has been a life changer#and clearing out junk for a roomie is mentally very freeing#I loved my beardie but her tank took up space that I can now use for storage#that sounds so callous 😅#okee thanks for listening bye#mine

I just saw a home renovation show where they redid an "awful" unfinished basement and it was just like. damn, I should show these people the murder room.
I have one of those old Philly rowhomes, so when you think of my basement, imagine one that's over a hundred years old, very low ceilings, rickety stairs, more of a cellar than anything. I don't use it much because stairs aren't my friends at the best of times.
anyway, the previous owners built a weird little addition onto the back of it that I fondly call "the murder room." I have gone into the murder room approximately once since moving in, and that's only because I had to find a leak.
imagine, if you will, a tiny little room (maybe 8x8) with no windows or proper lighting. I have to watch my head in there, and I'm only a little over five feet tall. also, the walls are painted, I shit you not, blood red. directly onto the fucking concrete. it's a lot.
there's a sink, some shelves, a hell of a lot of cobwebs, and a drain in the floor. that's it. there was some kind of heavy-duty door on this room, but it was removed before I bought the house. (I can see where the door was, but it's just a doorway for now.)
I was TOLD the drain was there because of storm water, but if that's the case it does a shit-ass job because I still get water in my basement every time there's a bad storm. (see: the mystery leak)
I think the real estate agent called it a work room, but as soon as I started calling it the murder room, she followed suit. the vibes are rancid in there.
so now when I watch some home improvement show that's like "oh no there are EXPOSED BEAMS and the STAIRS AREN'T TO CODE" I'm like lol. lmao. rofl. etc.
if you saw my murder room, y'all would cry lmao.

how dare stores not sell the exact kind of products I'm looking for
#soooo as i have little to do these days i've started organising various places in my apartment#started with the bathroom cabinets. then the wardrobe#for the past days i've been organising this in-built closet in my bedroom#which i've used to store off-season clothes but also just all sorts of crap (lots of it is different kinds of papers)#however i've been wanting to make it just a closet for off-season clothes (and suitcases etc.)#because i fear all the paper i've been keeping there have been making the air in the closet sort of...musty ugh#but as i've taken out all the random crap and left just the off-season clothes i realise most of the stuff i've been keeping there...#...was all the random crap 🙃 which i have no place to put now 🙃#i mean i have one large cupboard in the kitchen above the fridge that's mostly empty but like that's not very convenient is it lol#some of this stuff i want to keep at hand so i managed to cram something into the tv stand drawers in the living room#but there's still soooooo much stuff that would require a whole another fucking closet#which i don't have!! and while i do have the space for one i want to keep my apartment kinda spacey#so i thought of buying a bench to put in the bedroom and store something in nice-looking boxes under it#and i could put idk a casual throw on the bench to hide the boxes under it and to make it look like a bit more ✨interior design✨ u know lol#but i just absolutely can't find a bench that's 1) the right colour & style 2) has one shelf underneath so the boxes won't be on the floor#i've been so close to having a sexy little meltdown about all this numerous times btw but i've been brave!! believe it or not#sooooooo i don't know what to doooooooooooo i have too much crap with no place to put them in#(and mind you I already got rid of SO MUCH crap)#also does anyone have any tips on where to store rolls of gift wrapping paper 🥱 length 70 cm#the only places out of sight where they fit are this off-season closet and the wardrobe but i don't!! want to!! put them there!!#but i also absolutely do want them out of sight as i use them about 1-3 times a year#i hate owning stuff so much ugh

pro: ran into a coworker at a bar last night who I don’t really talk to usually (he works upstairs, I work downstairs) and we talked and im pretty sure we were highkey flirting and he bought me a drink and the bar merch shirt i was interested in and thanks to the power of alcohol i guess i asked for his number and he gladly gave it to me and. yeah
con: i have the second worst hangover i have ever had and have been fighting for my fucking life just to eat saltines
#it’s getting better but only now that it’s like. 6pm#as weird as it sounds part of why this sucks is that I volunteered to come into work today cause there’s a concert going on nearby which#usually means we’re at least somewhat busy -> make better tips#and I couldn’t go in because well. you know#I’ve been sick and dying in bed all day unable to move or eat or anything#let alone take the bus and go to work#but. as much as I wish I didn’t go this overboard I don’t totally regret last night cause.#yeah. potential thing going on with cute coworker guy. OH and potential job opportunity at my favorite bar in town#apparently said coworker Also has a job at the bar in addition to where we both work and the bar is hiring barbacks at entry-level#so I have someone to vouch for me and the bartender we were talking to seemed to really want me to apply too#one thing that’s kinda funny to me about all this is that the first two places (a bar then a club) we were at felt really mid because they#were packed with way too many straight people (at a gay bar and a gay club)#but the bar we ended up at (where we ALWAYS end up at. it is the oasis. it is the only thing I can rely on) felt. like. not overwhelmingly#straight? at all? I mean part of it’s just luck in a way with just who happened to be there and all that but it’s also that the staff seem#pretty significantly populated with queer ppl#I complained to the bartender about how the club we were at (one of the biggest gay clubs in the city- if not The biggest) just felt kinda#meh because yeah maybe there were some guys dancing in jockstraps and whatever but the crowd itself like. did not feel largely queer#or at least didn’t have the spirit I’d hope for in a queer space if that makes sense. felt very conventional. not enough wild outfits and#makeup and gender fuckery and so on#and the bartender was like dude I KNOW right? I went off outside there once about the invasion of cishets when this space isn’t FOR them#and so on and so forth. and god that was So real.#so the experience at my beloved bar last night was like. 1) guy comes up behind me just to order a drink but i was saving a seat for my#friend who was in the bathroom and mentioned that in case he was looking to take the seat. chatted a little. ended with him pointing out#that a guy nearby was trying to holla at me.#2) I look over and yes. the dj is. in fact. looking directly at me and mouthing the lyrics to whatever song was playing pointed my way.#it was pretty sweet honestly I think it was partly cause I looked like I was shy and alone#3) whatever gay shit was going on with my coworker and i. amusingly he seems to get more flamboyant when he drinks just like i do.#im not 100% sure what his sexuality is but i Am 100% sure it is Not straight. but yeah. if it hadn’t been so close to closing time ive been#hardcore wondering where that would’ve gone. maybe its for the best that i had to go when i did cause i was pretty drunk and who knows when#I could’ve hit the amount of drunk it takes to like outright say hey just so you know i’d suck your dick right now if you wanted
