Roses and Daffodils - Chapter 2

Pairings: Gaston/Adam and Adam/Belle (with bonus Gaston & Belle friendship)

Rating: M

Summary: When Belle breaks the Enchantress’s spell before she ever returns to the village, Gaston’s plan to threaten to lock her father away in an asylum never comes to fruition. Instead, when Gaston discovers that Belle is engaged to a prince, he becomes determined to steal her away, vowing that he will still someday make Belle his wife. After Gaston secures a position as the gamekeeper at the castle, he strikes up a false friendship with Adam - a relationship he tolerates only so that he can become closer to Belle. Over time, Gaston’s feelings change, and a friendship that began as a clever ruse transforms into something else entirely.

But happily ever after won’t come easily. And thanks to the Enchantress, things aren’t always what they seem.

When Adam finally emerged from the castle and jogged over to meet him, Gaston couldn’t help but smirk at the ridiculousness of his outfit - a long-sleeved button-down white shirt and dark blue trousers, both obviously made from high-quality materials and much too nice to wear while traipsing through the woods. They were going��hunting for crying out loud. Even the man’s boots had a brilliant shine to them.

“Looking very noble today, your highness,” Gaston said, hoping that his comment would sound like a genuine compliment, rather than the insult it really was. 

Adam stopped walking to scrutinize his own outfit and then snorted a laugh.

“It looks more like I’m going to a banquet than on a hunting trip, doesn’t it?”

Gaston only shrugged. 

“It’s alright. You can laugh,” Adam said with a smile. “I know I’m out of my element.”

“Have you ever been hunting before?” 

“Once,” Adam said as Gaston opened the gate. “Ten years ago.”

“I thought all noblemen learned how to hunt,” Gaston said, immediately realizing that continuing to act cordially toward the prince would be more difficult than he thought. He tried again. “You must have been too busy with your many other responsibilities, your highness.”

“Not busy, exactly, but I wasn’t really in a position to learn.”

The two of them started toward the woods. As they walked, Gaston glanced over at Adam. Why hadn’t he learned to hunt like all of the other men in his social class? Had he been living under a rock? And then Gaston remembered the insane rumors about Adam having spent the last decade living as a literal beast and he almost burst out laughing. It was a wonder that Adam hadn’t actually locked up Belle’s father for spreading such ridiculous lies. The man must have been a real pushover to let some peasant tarnish his reputation like that, even if that peasant was the father of the woman he wanted to marry. Gaston wouldn’t have tolerated it, that was for sure.

And albeit it is a modern au fanfic - I was sooo much reminded of those moments in the movie!

Interesting - me, totally fandom blind... lol but I hope your thrill for season 5 will be stilled! 😘

My favorite ship of 2022 was certainly Kristoff/Anna from Frozen. Though I must admit just a few weeks past, I have found new interest in Belle/Adam & Belle/Beast (considering the Disney movie batb1991). The story has always hooked me and after reading some fanfic I turned to them again (in my teens I adored them so much).

I'm going to have to go with Max and Lucas from Stranger Things! I only started watching the show this year, and shipped them from the get go, but their scene in the last episode of season 4 really pulled me in. I'm so nervous (but so excited) to see what's going to happen in season 5!!

If the Beast had at first thought the girl an intruder and a nuisance to his peace (and boredom), he soon learned the better of it.

Belle was a delight, a shimmering evening star in his despair. Whether she was the one to break the curse or not, he'd do anything to make her smile. And to hear her laugh was the music that not even the great maestro Forte could evoke from his instrument. No, Belle's laughter was full of charm and soon had a drug-like effect on Beast's sensitive ears.

But not only his ears perked up when Belle giggled or chuckled at some funny moment. No, his heart sang with her humour and his whole body tingled with excitement. Never in his life had he felt such an exquisite sensation. He could not get enough of it. But the more he shared her happiness around him, the more Beast wanted something else… like more of her…

He vowed not to ruin this. Not to frighten her. Not to destroy what she offered him. Her friendship! Oh, but his longing was tormenting and his beastly senses overwhelming. But he vowed to control his temper and not crush her good spirit.

It was a cosy evening, with the snow covering the castle, and they sat by the fire, reading a book together. Belle leaned against Beast's side and the passage she read was endearing and funny. And then she did it again. She burst into a sweet laugh, her body writhing against his form, and Beast's heart echoed with her loveliness. He could stand it no longer and turned, wrapping his arm around her as she almost fell to the ground, losing her balance. But he caught her and bent down to her, pressing his lips to silence her rapturous laughter and calm his troubled mind and soul. Oh, but those lips were saturated with something else - an even more intoxicating poison that catapulted his entire being into another realm. There was something else, another sound that reached his ears, and his blurred mind recognised a touch he'd never felt before. Her small hands cupped his cheeks, her fingers dug into his fur, and her lips pressed against his, and her voice… her voice… oh, her angelic voice… what was she doing to him? It was only a soft moan.

It was even more heavenly than her laughter…

Gaston can't believe his ears. Belle?! The strong-willed, fierce little girl who stood up to him in front of the crowd. The girl who won the heart of a hideous beast when she could have had him. But it's not about him. Not this time.

He remembers falling, but only vaguely. It is enough to make him shiver, as if he had woken from a nightmare. He has never told anyone except his wife about his dreams of falling from the castle top. What he can't tell her is that this here now is worse.

"Congratulations! That's a fine little girl you've got there." Claudette's voice is soft and caring as she strokes her sister's sweaty face. Robert checks on the mother when the afterbirth is over, and Claudette helps Paulette to settle back under the blanket with care. She will return later to help with cleaning up. The baby seems content, so they can feed her a little later too.

1 week later… The coach coming down the icy road comes from the castle. There is no time to lose and Adam has sent the carriage straight to Tolouse to fetch Robert and Claudette. He briefly thought of calling the provincial midwife from Villeneuve, but she's not the one Belle wants.
