I was thinking about how i'd joked before about blond anime dragkings in the 90s having been a death sentence. But honestly there's only so many of those, and seemingly fewer and fewer in modern series... Where as the archetype that came about at the same time that really did get me down bad for the next decade+ was the tan skin, red (often messy) hair, big girl/muscle girl/sword girl/athlete. (with optional tomboy or feral personality)

(I'll admit a few of these I remembered differently in my head --either I remembered their skin being darker or hair being redder-- than what turned up once I started googling, but a few are definitely a conflict of in-game sprites vs official art, or having a more noticeably darker skin tone compared to the other characters in their respective show/game, but more light skinned looking on their own)

Always imagining bashir and garak's politically tense trophy-husband-4-trophy-husband wedding to end all weddings bc knowing Richard Bashit he probably invited himself in expecting his son to get married to some human woman but NO hes slow dancing to Vic Fontaine's rendition of The Spy Who Loved Me with this elderly reptile bloke (probably wearing an outfit involving white fur and gold lamé (this is my vision ok shut up)) and when julian passive-agressively introduces them Garak is grinning and staring straight at him without blinking as he offers his hand and is all like Charmed, I'm Sure 🙂 and its enough to make anyone shit themselves. During their speeches Sisko and Miles are desperatly trying to find anecdotes about the happy couple that don't involve their war crimes or medical malpractice. Mila is watching everything from afar like the queen at a football match. Kirayoshi is crying incessantly throughout. A merry time is had by few.

Reynas backstory is absolutely bashit insane and no one talks about it. She was born into the role of a child soldier. Grew up haunted by her ancestors ghosts who got increasingly angry as her father spiraled. She killed him, which at the time, meant her entire family was dead. She ended up serving Circe for a while. Got kidnapped by pirates briefly. Lost her sister. Survived Lupas training. Became a dictator at 16.

The only characters who canonically know any of this are Percy and Nico. Percy only knows about the pirates and Circe and Nico never discusses it again. She quite arguably commits patricide and doesn’t even seem to think about it after boo. She commits the greatest Roman crime and Nico assures her she didn’t, and that’s the end of that.

She doesn’t even have a canonical “legal” last name. There are like 3 characters that reference it, and they don’t actually clarify that according to new Rome, she does actually have a surname. Because her father served in the freaking legion, and she’s not really enthusiastic about talking about him. So she probably didn’t use one on purpose. As far as we know, she took on a fake one so the death of her actual father, with her actual name abandoned so his death can’t be proven real, or her fault. Since she did blatantly end him, which Roman’s don’t like. Even if Ramirez-Arellano is used legally in new Rome, she could easily be lying about it, since no one knows anything about her. There’s no real evidence it’s her last name (at least that most characters know of) so there’s a good chance she’s lying. Only Nico really has any reason to actually believe she’s completely telling the truth about her name, since she isn’t exactly known to be be very open about her past.

9-1-1 fics written before season 4 came out are so funny cause they all try to invent a tragic backstory for buck and somehow none of it comes close to the real thing
