I fucking hate how much of botany still treats England like the center of all time and history. Trying to watch a documentary on nepenthes and the narrator describes some mountains in the Philippines as having "never even been visited." And then a few minutes later he talks about getting guidance up the mountain from local hunters who know the way. So the mountain has clearly been visited??? Oh my god.

#like he meant explored By Botanists but leaving that part out says a lot about how he feels about people living there #and i suspect they HAVE been visited by phillipino botanists who get ignored by the english-dominant field #based on the comments #the the shit ive seen from people who *do* collaborate with local scientists #i love carnivorous plants but it suuuucks to have a special interest where most of the published work in my language is written by #the like some of the most racist people whove ever lived
