MEET THE MAIN CHARACTERS OF SHARK TANK
Interviewer: Hello, fellow fans of aomineavenue productions! Today we’re here with the main cast of the upcoming production “SHARK TANK” and have prepared a few sets of questions that will give you a little insight of what it’s about. ━━ direct yourself to the masterlist of shark tank here.
━━ Akaashi Keiji; “I will never love you the way you want me to.”
[I]: Hello there, Akaashi-san! We’re so glad you’re able to make it to today’s interview.
[A]: I’m happy to be here.
[I]: Let’s get down to business, shall we? Your line for the promo of Shark Tank practically screams angst, can you give us a little clue on what it’s about?
[A]: Well I can’t really disclose on such an important information but I can say that particular part in the production does indeed scream angst but I do think the fans will be able to love that scene.
[I]: Do you love the role that was given to you?
[A]: It certainly is something I’ve yet to portray as in aomineavenue’s works and I think it might confuse the fans as to why such a role was given to me but I’m really happy with what the team has made so far. I can’t wait for everyone to see this.
[I]: As we know so far, Y/N will be choosing out of the three male leads in the production. Can you tell us more about the relationship between your role and hers?
[A]: Without disclosing too much, I think the relationship between the two based on the timeline of the story is pretty much on edge or rather rocky due to their current situation. They have mutual feelings for each other but the circumstances around them keeps tearing them apart.
[I]: Yikes. We can’t wait to see that.
[A]: And I can’t wait for everyone to see it. I hope I don’t disappoint the fans who will be viewing this story.
━━ Daishou F/N; “Why can’t I live the life I want to?”
[I]: The huge star of every show is here everyone! Welcome L/N F/N! It’s an honour to have you here with us today.
[Y]: Thank you so much, I’m really happy I could be here today. I’ve been so excited for everyone to see this.
[I]: This time around, based from what was given to us, you’ll be portraying as Daishou Suguru’s little sister. How is it like working with Daishou-san?
[Y]: Ah! Yes, well, he’s literally a burst of energy to be around with. Though we may not be actually siblings, working with him in this project, i can definitely say that we treat each other like siblings now.
[I]: Was the cast in this project easy to work with?
[Y]: Oh, definitely. Everyone is such a sweetheart and so welcoming. I’m really happy with the cast. Everyday has been a blast, to reading lines to filming episodes.
[I]: Tell us more about the character you’re portraying.
[Y]: Well, my character is someone who has been through a lot of hardships with her family. Due to the family environment, she had to step down from what she loves doing best to avoid the scandals. It really took a toll on her, so instead of doing something she really loved, she stayed away to avoid any unnecessary drama. She just wanted a peaceful life.
[I]: Tell us more about the love interests of your character. Who do you ship your character more?
[Y]: Oh, I don’t kiss and tell. Let’s just say that even I have a hard time choosing myself.
[K]: She obviously chooses me.
[O]: My character was obviously better.
[A]: Keep dreaming.
[Y]: Excuse me? This is my interview.
━━ Kuroo Tetsurou “I only came back for you, what more do you need?”
[I]: My, Kuroo-san, welcome! How is your first project with aomineavenue productions?
[K]: Ah, it was honestly very intimidating at first but you know, you get used to it along the way. Especially with such a great team.
[I]: Can you tell us more about the character you’ll be portraying?
[K]: Ah, my character is someone who followed his dreams and left someone he dearly loved. He actually regrets after awhile and never really got over things.
[I]: Wow, such a spoiler! I’m sure the fans will love it. Is that how your character’s relationship is with the main character?
[K]: I cannot confirm or deny anything. I guess that’s up to everyone to figure out along the way.
[I]: What a complete tease! What should the fans look forward to?
[K]: I’d say the very dramatic scenes between each love interest. Though, I must do so say myself, the relationship between my character and the main character is pretty tamed compared to the other two.
[I]: Somehow, I have this feeling that I should doubt that.
━━ Miya Osamu “You were the only woman I’ve ever wanted.”
[I]: It’s a pleasure to have you here with us, Osamu-san. How has working with aomineavenue productions going so far?
[O]: It’s a blast, honestly. I’ve had other projects with aomineavenue and it’s been great. Working with Y/N, too, has been a wonderful experience.
[I]: I’m so glad to hear that. Based on our survey, you were highly voted on by the fans. What does that feel like?
[O]: Ah, really? I ddin’t expect that. That’s truly an honor, I hope I’ll be able to live up to everyone’s expectations. I can’t wait to rub it in ‘Tsumu’s face that I was picked for this current project.
[I]: Tell us more of the character you’ll be portaying in Shark Tank.
[O]: The character I’ll be portraying is extremely loyal, as you can see from the line given from the promo. Based on the timeline where the story will go, my character will be going through certain lengths to help certain people.
[I]: Your character will be portraying as a heir to a big entertainment company, am I correct?
[O]: Yes, that’s correct. Basically, he has a lot of resources to help the other characters in their sticky circumstances.
[I]: Would that mean that your character will probably be the knight in shining armor for our main character?
[O]: That’s for everyone to wait and find out. Either way, I can’t wait for everyone to see this upcoming series. We’re pretty excited ourselves.
━━ aomineavenue “I’m sleep deprived, please.”
[I]: Hello, Mia! It’s great to finally have you back here with us.
[M]: Ah, I’m pretty excited myself. It’s been awhile so, please be nice to me as I’ve yet to write something good lately.
[I]: So do tell us, what is the inspiration with Shark Tank?
[M]: Honestly speaking, it was a different story when i first posted about Shark Tank. It was going to be more complicated and angsty but I didn’t think it would fit well for a SMAU setup, so i rearranged a few things and hopefully this will be better. The previous points from my original story idea, will also be migrated to the new plot idea for Shark Tank but it’ll be on a totally different setting.
[I]: When should we expect the first release of Shark Tank?
[M]: I would say about next week. I haven’t been around much lately due to personal reasons, so I’m still settling back in and rearranging my thoughts. Hopefully, I’ll be able to follow through. I expect weekly updates with this one. My goal is to update at least every Saturday.
[I]: Will we be getting more romance than angst in this work?
[M]: I can’t really say. The current start of the story mostly revolves around getting to know each character and start of a dramatic arc. But I would like to confirm that romance is indeed in the cards for this story, whether it may be between main characters or side characters that will be present in the story as well.

Meant To Be Series || One For Every Billion
6. By My Side | Pt 3
It's been about another hour as your new group circles around hitting up different rides, following the plan you'd set to rendezvous back with the rest of your previous group.
You've got to say, your favourite person to sit by on a coaster might be either Maki, Mattsun, or Hana. The former lets loose a strong of hilariously creative curses on drops and tight twists, whereas the latter two are more like you, laughing and whooping the whole time.
You guess Toru's not so bad either... he's either being silly and yelling out for you or Iwaizumi - using any excuse to hold your hand if you're next to each other - or laughing and hollering too. You haven't figured out the pattern yet, which Toru you'll get based on what type of ride, and you're honestly starting to think the first reaction is more to mess with everyone.
You look up from your phone at the same time as Hana, "We're a couple rides away."
"Yeah, they offered to stop and wait for us but I told them not to waste time waiting. But if they want to double a ride, it works out."
You get another buzz and look back down at the text Shin sent you, "Shin and Karu are heading back to join us on the next one."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, the other two are going to take a break from rides for a couple hours. Play some games and visit the other attractions instead, I guess."
She rolls her eyes, puffing out, "Typical." and you completely agree.
Tobio and Hiro are definitely more the type to get easily numbed simply by the size of a loud crowd. They probably find it annoying at times, depending on the length of the line up and the kinds of people in it around them.
A break from the rides that pull big crowds will probably be exactly what they need and there's a ton of other things to do here, from indoor game areas to the rigged game stands all around.
"Okay, I'll let Karu know we're almost to the front of this one and we'll meet them at the entrance to the next."
Toru turns back as you and Hana finish your discussion to ask, "So Shin's your cousin?"
"One of them, yes."
"And Haru is your brother, Hana?"
"One of them, yes." She laughs as she mimics your response. Iwaizumi has also pulled out of the conversation with Maki and Mattsun and turned slightly now.
"Oh.. is he.. our age?" Toru continues his vague line of questioning. Why does he want to know? He'll meet them soon enough.
"Probably exactly! You guys are a year older than Y/n and I, right?"
"Yes.. Do you all know each other well?"
You're the one to answer, "We actually just met today. Like I said earlier, Hana is the younger sister of my cousin's best friend. They somehow already knew we'd all get along and ditched us for the spa here instead."
Hana smiles at that, "I was honestly a little nervous! I gave my sister an earful over that but I'm so glad they threw us together now!"
"Me too." You return her smile with a warm one of your own.
Iwaizumi's rubbing his head, "Man, that could have turned out completely different."
"You'd hate a situation like that, wouldn't you?" You ask him.
"I don't even have to guess." He gestures at Toru, explaining, "This one has new people around him all the time so I just have to bear with it."
Pretty boy clearly takes offense, responding with exaggerated outrage, "Bear with it?! You're always beating me up."
"Relax, bro. They're love taps."
"If you want me dead early!"
You and Hana are laughing at their digs back and forth and your group reaches the front in no time. You all grab the first car with three rows of paired seats all set in the same vehicle and end up in pretty much the same groupings as the first one, except you and Toru have the very front, with Iwaizumi and Hana behind the two of you and Maki and Mattsun taking the last row.
Also, these seats aren't individual seats, as in, there's no divider between the pairs, so Toru's leg is already pressed against yours and it doesn't get any better as you're both thrown against each other with the twists and turns. Okay, fine, you're the one being thrown around, he's actually pretty steady and, not even halfway through, his arm slides around your waist to just hold you against him and you're no longer sliding anywhere.
You look over at him during a steady straight in the ride and, as shadows flit over and by his face cast from the covers and rails rapidly passing above, he just smiles and explains, calling out over the loud noises of the ride, "I did say I'd protect you.. but you could also say I'm protecting myself from bodily harm."
You don't even have a response except to throw your head back and laugh, because who doesn't like a guy with quick wit and a sweet demeanor but devilish side. The wind steals the end of your joyful sound at the last drop, leaving it somewhere above you both, but the arm wrapped around you holds you tight to the car as it reaches the bottom and end of the ride.
You and Toru are both a little quiet once you clear that one, but it's not glaring as the others fill in around you two with excited chatter while you all head over to the next ride to find Shin and Karu.
"There!" Hana's hand finds your wrist as she calls out and you follow her gaze to see the two leaning against the rails outside the entrance. Oh my god, he's definitely your favourite cousin today because you're pretty sure that's a coffee cup he's holding in his hands.
Thankfully Shin is leaning with his arms against the rail, looking up at the ride they're waiting at, so you catch Karu's eye and put a finger to your lips. He catches on pretty fast, watching you with a smirk while he keeps up his conversation with your cousin. Which gives you the opportunity to sneak up behind Shin and, while reaching around to grab the cup, you blow out a soft, "Boo." in his ear before immediately pulling back out of smacking range.
"Holy f-" You think he jumps about a foot in the air, still cursing obscenities while reaching for you, but you dance back around to hide behind the guys you arrived with.
Karu, Hana, and even Makki and Mattsun are laughing. His face was pretty hilarious, you wish you'd taken a picture for the books.
Taking a sip of the drink, you taste the white chocolate mocha roll over your tongue and know you were right, "Aw, thanks for the coffee, Shin!"
"Give it back, it's for my cousin that's not a brat."
"Which one would that be? Don't sulk when you've done worse." Chuckling, you keep to your safe spot behind Toru, who's watching the interaction with an amused smile. Hm? You guess he can relate.
Hana's finally able to stop laughing and cuts in, "Yeah, I heard you pretended to kidnap her at Tokyo station when she visited last summer."
"Yeah, you should have seen her face!" Just like that she has Shin laughing and telling the group the story, even pulling out his phone to show his screenshots - like, what?? - of the embarrassing twitter posts from last year.
The story and pictures has everyone - and you mean everyone, even Iwaizumi - cracking up all over again. It gets worse when you exclaim, "Is that a whole prank album?!"
He just laughs and responds, "Like you don't have one on me."
So you just shrug because... yeah, you do.
It's incredible that everyone gets along so well and that easy, fun vibe continues for the next few hours, until mid-afternoon when you all decide to get lunch.

Behind The Scenes!
-Oikawa out here using his 'fear' of the rides as an excuse to hold your hand until he just drops the facade
-This boy is constantly playing games or wearing a mask, it's second nature by now, but it's never intentionally to hurt anyone, more to protect himself :'(
-But funny thing, Y/n is almost exactly the same in that aspect so they understand each other pretty well and their games are usually ironic amusement for both in a way
A/N: Lunch time! Go get some tea, lovelies, you might have been waiting for this..? ;)

I love you!
Tumblr media
The lone ginkgo tree stood out among the others that were outlining the small clearing. It looks absolutely beautiful the way the golden leaves contrast to the dark green around them. It seemed almost magical and you silently scold yourself for leaving your camera back at the studio. You walk across the grass clearing towards the ginkgo tree, examining it along the way. As you get closer, you notice carvings in the wide base of the tree in the shape of a small door, looking to be about a foot tall and half a foot wide.
“How cute,” you mutter to yourself, crouching down to examine the door further. Placing your backpack up against the tree, you notice a small hoop attached to the door, the opening of the ring just big enough for you to hook two fingers. You pull on the hoop, letting out a small gasp of excitement as the door gives way, revealing a hollow opening in the tree. You peak through the doorway, seeing nothing but dried leaves and small sticks. A slight breeze blows past you as you start to close the door, moving around the contents inside the hollowed out trunk. The door was almost half way closed when something caught your eye.
You peak back into the small room, noticing something long and light blue under the rearranged foliage. You look around the hollowed trunk, making sure there’s no hidden creature that could jump out and bite you. “Oh God, please don’t let there be a snake,” you think to yourself as you reach in to retrieve the mystery item. Snatching your arm back, you let out a small breath and chuckle at yourself for the small overreaction.
“An envelope?” you say out loud, looking at the newly retrieved item in your hand. You flip it over while observing it, noticing that it's sealed with nothing written on the front.
“I wonder if anything’s in it,” you mumble to yourself. You reposition yourself with your back up against the trunk of the tree, opening the envelope as you get settled. The paper tears easily and you guess that it must be old. Finally getting the envelope wide enough, you pull out a piece of paper, unfolding it carefully to make sure not to tear it. You were happy to see the writing was still legible with only some minor smudges and dirt marks spread across the page. Noticing a small date at the top, you squint as you bring the paper closer to read, only able to make out a faint 2018 as the rest of the date was ruined by the dirt.
“Two years ago… Wow.” You pull the paper back, taking a quick look around the small meadow before you start to read.
Dear future me,
I hope when you open this letter, it finds you well. Maybe you finally asked out that cute girl in your Art History class. Or maybe, at the very least, grew a pair to introduce yourself to her properly. Anyways, I’m not writing this to give you a hard time. We’re dealing with enough of that as it is. I’m just hoping that writing this will be something to help me gain some motivation. Give me a sense of purpose. Things just feel stagnant lately. I’m in the middle of my Senior year of university and have no idea what I’m going to do once I graduate. Everyone around me seems to have everything planned out and I’m just… here. I’m hoping when you finally read this again, you’ll have found your path. I promise to try my best on my end to get you there.
Starting with Art History girl. Hopefully she likes nature walks or hikes. I would love to take her to this old ginkgo tree for a picnic. So let’s work on step #1. Figure out how to simply walk up to her without falling flat on your face.
This is hopeless. Sending you luck and well wishes from the past. - Joon
You flip the page around to see if there was anything only to be met with a blank back.
“I wonder if he ever came back to read this,” you think out loud. Taking a look around the base of the tree, it seems like this place has been unbothered for quite some time. You assume so, anyways, especially with how covered the letter was when you found it. You continue to sit there against the tree, looking out into the small clearing. “Maybe I should write a letter back.”
You feel a slight gust of wind, closing your eyes as you appreciate the soft chill kiss your face and the beautiful sound of the rustling leaves of the ginkgo tree. “I’m guessing I should take that as a yes,” you say with a giggle. The tiny laugh is cut short as you let out a small scoff and shake your head.
“Great. I don’t know what's worse; me talking to myself or to the wind,” you grumble as you reach into your backpack, pulling out a notebook and pen, flipping to a blank page. “Okay, well here goes nothing.”
You sat at the base of the ginkgo tree writing out your letter back to this Joon. Constantly erasing and rewriting half of it, feeling like you were getting too deep and personal with your reply. It wasn’t until the third revision that you finally told yourself that it didn’t matter. No one was going to find it and read it anyways. Once complete, you reach back into your bag, pulling out a yellow envelope meant for holding photos. You check to make sure it’s empty before stuffing your letter inside and sealing it. You place the envelope inside the hollow base of the tree and close the door.
Standing up, you brush the leaves and dirt off your knees, backside, and hands. Not quite ready to leave your newly found secret hideaway, you look around the area, eyeing many rocks of different shapes and sizes. Most of them being just the right size for making a rock tower. You check your watch for the time, mentally calculating just how much time you have before you need to be back at the studio. “5 minutes until noon. Just one tower, one wish, and then I’ll head back to the real world. Sound good?” you said out loud, looking up at the ginkgo tree. A small breeze picks back up as you start to search for the perfect rocks. The wind softly blows through the leaves as if it were trying to give you a response.
Tumblr media
The sun sits high in the sky as Namjoon treks down the now familiar path as the wind blows softly around him. The trees and bushes make the most comforting sounds as their branches and leaves rub together through the breeze. He looks down at the blue envelope in his hand before checking the time on his watch. 5 minutes until noon. He’s out here earlier than usual. A bittersweet surprise due to his class being canceled. The very class where he was finally going to talk to the pretty girl who sat by the window. Or at the very least, sit right next to her awkwardly while not saying anything at all. He hadn’t planned on writing another letter, but with the surge of motivation the last one had left him, he felt like it wouldn’t hurt to do it again.
Namjoon readjusts the strap of his messenger bag on his shoulder as he enters the small hidden meadow. His eyes and lips turn up into a small smile as he looks at the lone ginkgo tree. “Hello, old friend,” he says as he approaches the base of the tree. The branches and leaves sway in the wind as if giving their own greeting back. Namjoon looks around at the empty meadow before placing his bag on the ground and kneeling before the small wooden door.
“I’m not here for long, friend,” he says as he looks up at the tree. “Just dropping off another.” Namjoon reaches for the small loop to open the door. Blue envelope in hand, he reaches in to place the letter inside, pausing when he sees something he didn't expect. There in the middle of the hollow trunk sat a clean, yellow envelope, seemingly untouched by the nature around it.
“I didn’t think anyone else knew about this place,” Namjoon mumbles to himself. He grabs the envelope from the opening, eyes going wide in a small moment of panic as he realizes his previous letter is no longer there. He lets out a low groan. “Oh no, someone read my letter.”
He hits his head with his palm, looking at the stranger’s envelope in his hand “Should I read it? They wouldn’t respond with their own letter just to laugh at me, right?” he thinks to himself. Namjoon looks around before adjusting himself to lean against the wide tree trunk. He opens the envelope, pulling out the letter. The faint scent of a female’s perfume follows, hitting Namjoon’s senses as he breathes it in. Appreciating the lovely scent while also finding it oddly familiar, but he just can’t place it. He takes a look at the letter and shrugs his shoulders. “Well I guess fair’s fair,” he mumbles to himself again as he begins to read the mystery letter.
Dear Joon,
I hope you don’t mind that I read your letter. It seemed to have been left untouched for sometime. I felt the least I could do is write back, even if you don’t ever return to this place. I would like to apologize in advance for using your letter as my own little outlet to vent. I’m sure there’s more interesting things you would like to know about the future if you were to ever find this. Not much has changed in the two years since your letter. The world is still a big mystery where people still feel lost. Myself included. I hope that’s not too discouraging. It’s normal to experience a sense of mispurpose and self doubt in college. Everyone feels lost at least once in their lives. Even if they felt like they had everything planned and figured out. The universe doesn’t make exceptions in that affair.
If you did figure a way out of your stump, let a girl know. I could use some words of wisdom myself. My boyfriend of almost two years broke up with me not too long ago. On White Day, if you can believe it. We started dating my senior year of university and I thought we were on the same page as far as our future together was concerned. But there I was, sitting on a bench in Yongsan Park, thinking I was about to be proposed to and end up getting dumped instead. He always talked about marriage, but I guess people tend to just change their minds.
But here’s the real kicker… my feeling of being lost isn’t from the heartbreak. I wish it were that simple. I'm feeling lost because when he broke up with me and ended almost two years of us, I didn’t feel sad. I felt relieved. Who in their right mind feels relief when the person they thought they were going to spend their life with breaks up with them? I don't know. Maybe love just isn't for me.
Anyways, that was a long drawn out way of saying, don’t place your sense of purpose on a relationship, let alone another person. People will only let you down. That being said, if Art History Girl doesn’t enjoy nature walks or picnics, she’s not the one. It sounds like the perfect date. - Y/N 2♥2♥
Namjoon reads the last couple of lines over again, smirking as he traces the small hearts you drew in place of the zeros of the year by your name. “Cute,” he mumbles to himself as he places your letter on the ground next to him, digging into his bag for his notebook and a pen. He quickly scribbles out a response, grabbing the blue envelope he brought and discarding his unread letter from it. Replacing it with the new one he just wrote. Namjoon sticks the now sealed envelope and letter into the holy trunk, closing the door before checking his watch again. Almost 12:35 PM.
“I guess I have time to eat lunch here.” Namjoon reaches back into his bag, pulling out the carefully wrapped sandwich his roommate made him this morning. After finishing his meal, he leans back against the tree, closing his eyes, enjoying the occasional breeze as the time passes. Deciding he spent enough time hiding from the real world, Namjoon stands from his spot against the tree, grabbing his bag in the process. He takes a quick glance at the small door, eyebrows furrowing as he does a double take, noticing the door is slightly ajar. “Didn’t I close this?” he thought to himself as he kneels back down in front of the door, opening it wider to see if anything was keeping it from closing all the way.
“What the hell?!” Namjoon exclaims as his eyes widen at the sight of another yellow envelope lying in the middle of the hollow trunk. His blue envelope, once again, nowhere to be seen.
Tumblr media
You take a step back from your newly built structure, admiring your handiwork. You decided to build the little rock tower at the base of the tree, right in front of the little door. You tell yourself it’s to discourage any newcomers from opening the door, but you know it's just to discourage yourself from retrieving your letter.
“Okay, Y/N, now make a wish.” You close your eyes and bow your head by the rock tower. Searching your mind for the perfect wish, you finally land on the right words. Please let me be wrong about love. Please let it find me in this lifetime. You let out a deep breath as you open your eyes. Grabbing your bag off the ground, you take one more look up at the ginkgo tree before starting back towards the walking trail.
“I hope I’m able to find this place again,” you whisper to yourself as you take a few steps away from the tree. You’re only halfway across the small meadow when the sound of a snapping twig stops you in your track, causing you to turn around, looking for the source of the noise.
“Hello?” You call out as you look around the seemingly empty meadow. Finding nothing, you turn back around towards the walking trail. “The woods make noises, Y/N. Nothing to freak out about,” you mumble to yourself.
You barely take another step when you hear the sound of rocks falling behind you. You quickly turn around, hoping to catch whatever person or woodland creature that could be causing these disturbances only to find that you’re still alone in the meadow. You take a quick scan of the area before your eyes move straight to your rock tower at the base of the ginkgo tree. Or at least what used to be your rock tower. What resides there now is just a pile of rocks. The sight of your fallen tower alone isn’t enough to put you on edge. Rocks fall. You just didn’t expect to see the previously closed door at the base of the tree to now be wide open.
You take slow steps back towards the tree, scanning the surroundings again for anyone or anything hiding in the tree line. Telling yourself that it was just the wind as you make it back to the tree, you kneel down to close back the little door. Your movements halt when you sneak a peek inside the hollow trunk, your eyes landing on what should have been the yellow envelope you just left inside. Instead, in its place, you find another blue envelope. You snatch the envelope from the hollow trunk, tearing it open with so much force that you wouldn’t be surprised if you ripped the letter inside. You pulled the letter from the envelope and began to read.
Dear Y/N,
Thank you for writing me back. I’m going to be honest, I'm a little surprised to have found your letter. I didn’t think anyone else knew about this place, considering it's off a hidden path that's found off another hidden path. But I’m happy someone else gets to enjoy the beauty of this hidden gem of a meadow. Thank you for your kind words. It’s nice to know there are people out there who care enough to try and comfort a stranger. I’m sorry to read about your breakup. Those are never easy, regardless of the tenure of the relationship. I hope you don’t feel too troubled by your feelings around it. It could just be a blessing in disguise. Sometimes you have to close one door for another to open. I believe there is someone for everyone and they will find you when you least expect it. So if you return here to find this letter, don’t give up. Love will find you. I promise. - Joon
P.S. Thanks for the little 2020 joke. Got quite a chuckle out of that one. Maybe we’ll see each other at this ol’ ginkgo tree some day. You know, in the current year of 2018.

About the Amanda, Jyushi, Jiro, Love, Life series
Today I thought I would try to give a little bit of insight to the ongoing series right now. It’s surprisingly been a couple of months since I began this journey, and with how much I have planned to write for this, it will probably take a few more until I’ve written all that I have planned out. With the sheer length of these works it does take a long time, so I might have forgotten about a loooot of stuff, but I’ll try to list off the things I remember quq. If you’re interested in reading some of these backstories, you can after the line break^^
For those interested in reading the series as it gets updated, you can read it here! I hope you enjoy this!
To be completely honest, I should have been done with this little excursion after writing Amanda’s Journey to Bringing Jyushi Happiness. I thought that this much was enough, and I was having low confidence issues as to whether or not things were likable, if they were in character (or somewhat at the very least...) and the list could go on forever.
But ideas kept popping into my head and what was supposed to be disjointed scenes out of everyday life for Jiro and Jyushi as they manage a long distance relationship after only being together for a day turned into Closing the Distance Between Us..... quite comical if you ask me considering the word count just got longer from there *cries into the distance*
But to tell you the truth, I’m happy I continued this journey despite the challenges. I feel like the way I’m progressing through this is giving it a more complete story that embodies the “circle of life and love” I imagine thanks to Amanda’s existence. This is also the reason why I named the series the Amanda, Jyushi, Jiro, Love, Life series. It’s a circle of connections, founded by Amanda, and it branches off into love for Jyushi and Jiro, which betters their life and/or changes it drastically from what it could have been. So with that kinda pushed out of the way, lemme tell you about some good old background info.
1. Amanda’s Journey to Bringing Jyushi Happiness is not my first Jiroshi fic
... it’s just the first one I’ve completed. After being immersed in the Hypmi fanfic archives and devouring the sweetness that is Jiroshi I started thinking about things I could write. The first one came in the form of Jyushi wearing red lipstick, which to this day I don’t know if I’m making it fluff or more explicit but I was hooked on the idea and... stopped writing 500 words into the work. The second one came in the form of An Outrageous Circumstance. I wasn’t surprised about Buster Bros making an appearance in my strange dreams, but after reflecting on it I realized I could use this and switch Jyushi with me in the dream plot. I fortunately did manage to finish writing that, so if you’d like to read that, you can here.
Amanda’s Journey to Bringing Jyushi Happiness was born from the concept that Amanda has more of an importance to Jyushi’s life than ever imagined. I wondered, what would happen if Amanda had a soul and supported Jyushi? And from there this was born. Initially I was content with leaving it as it was since I didn’t know just how much power I could give Amanda, but they grew on me so much okay? I practically love Amanda as much as I do Jyushi and Saburo. I can’t produce them tho aha... having Amanda as a support person is one of the best things I could write for Jyushi. And I hope people can enjoy this as much as I have.
2. The soulmates concept is mostly forgotten about 90% of the time for me.
Whenever I write more installments I forget that this is kind of a soulmates au, based on the fact that Amanda can see the fated linkage between Jyushi and Jiro. I always imagine this is kinda like a semi rewrite of canon world but at the same time it’s like it’s own little world quq. But whenever I have to stop and think about how much fluff I need to add and just sequential things like that... the soulmates concept come out. I guess I do have to thank myself for actually remembering about it every once in awhile XD
But I will mention that this fate concept will come out more in some of the newer installments. I have prewritten something a little more into the future that heavily talks about the fated pair deal. I hope you’ll look forward to it!
2.1. Why is Jiro the only one that has a fated string?
I wrote this specifically in Amanda’s point of view. If anyone had a fated string, Amanda would believe this person to be Jyushi’s fated partner, because their duty is to look over Jyushi and make sure he receives the happiness he deserves. Amanda cannot see the fated strings of anyone else in the world, because Jyushi is all Amanda truly cares about. Think of it as a special gift Amanda was gifted by the gods for their journey to giving Jyushi his happiness.
From here, I don’t know what else might be important, but I’ll list off some other things that might’ve been written in notes and other things like that.
3. Jyushi has “graduated” high school.
Jyushi’s school circumstances are kinda strange now that I think about it. THINKING ABOUT IT LOGICALLY, Jyushi should be a third year in high school at his age of 18 (or at least... I thought so lmao). Instead, I’ve given him a job and a life outside of school lol. So I’ll just say Jyushi got into school a little earlier than he should have thanks to his parent’s frequent travels abroad. He was raised by his grandmother most of the time, whenever his parents couldn’t stay in Japan. Around middle school, Jyushi transferred to a middle school that was closer to his grandmother’s residence, rather than feed into the middle school his elementary school was joined with, so then the commute from his grandmother’s residence wouldn’t be as problematic.
Amanda was born around this time, and they got to witness the extremely difficult times Jyushi faced. When Jyushi’s grandmother passes, Jyushi moves in with his aunt and uncle who lived in the next town over. Feeling bad about being a nuisance when they were planning on having a family, Jyushi finds a high school with a boarding plan so he doesn’t have to inconvenience them any more than he did. Along with these plans Jyushi also found part time jobs that were allowed in accordance to the school rules. This is where he finds his passion with making music, which is more than just listening to it and singing in general.
Jyushi was fortunate enough that he had his own dorm. Most of that reason came in the form of his “eccentric personality” which came out a lot whenever he was nervous. He had classmates who talked to him, but he didn’t really have friends. With that said and done, Jyushi quietly progressed through school and quietly graduated around his 18th birthday. He was already set with a job though, with the label he is currently under giving him a contract whilst in his third year of high school. The company officially advertises Argo Kishii Gakudan, and Jyushi becomes the lead singer who produces everything on his own. They gain popularity almost instantly thanks to the copious amount of lives they have done.
Technically, Argo Kishii Gakudan was already a couple years old however. They were made up of Jyushi’s upperclassmen that recognized his talent for music, Takeru, Jun, and Keisuke. You will see more of them in Side N. But because they were so small, and had to pay for all their bookings and everything on their own, going out to share their music, even when they were a hit in their frequent live houses, was nearly impossible. Thanks to the backing of their label, Argo Kishii Gakudan was able to perform around the country and do tours. The fateful one that brings Jiro and Jyushi together is their first one to Ikebukuro.
Jyushi in the current day doesn’t have many opportunities to see his mother and father. They’re successful in their own respective companies, and it shows in the way they send copious amounts of money to Jyushi whenever they can’t meet. Jyushi never has used it though, instead saving it and using only his own earnings from his contract and his previous part time jobs.
Sooo that’s my sorry attempt to document the reason why Jyushi doesn’t attend school lmao. And maybe a little insight on Argo Kishii Gakudan lol.
4. Room settings are soooo difficult to envision, especially whenever they’re different from whatever it is you’re looking at
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I started writing Side: I, and even before when I was writing the ending of Closing the Distance Between Us, I didn’t have the image of Jiro’s room to refer to. How I imagined his room was somewhat drastically different, and thanks to that, I ended up not really giving much of a description to those fics. As of today though, I wrote some hefty descriptions of Jyushi’s room because it’s building up on the imagery I had, in combination to Jyushi’s room in ARB.
You’ll get to read it in the next fic I post from this series. Hope you look forward to it!!
5. Music kinda defines a lot of my inspirations to adding to this series
I listen to music all the time while I’m writing. As a result, there are times I get sidetracked based on songs that come to the shuffle. When I wrote Amanda’s Journey to Bringing Jyushi Happiness and Closing the Distance Between Us, I shuffled a lot of the Hypmi music into my playlist, with a focus on Moonlight Shadow XD. But then I started writing Side: I, and then I came across a really inspirational song when I watched a Men’s Rhythmic Gymnastics routine. While I don’t really associate with the story this song was for, I love this song enough I played it on repeat for like. 80% of that fic entirely.
There’s a couple lines where Jiro thinks about how some romantic music would be playing in the background if it was a drama of some sorts, and this song was a tribute to the fact I was listening to one song... almost entirely. Please listen to it here.
For Side: I-02, another song was put on replay for a little while as well. I made mention of it in the upload post I did for that fic, but I’ll list it here as well.
I hope you’ll give these tracks a listen one day!
7. Some references kinda inside the fics.
I guess I’ll wrap up this mini list of nonsense by mentioning some things I’ve added into these fics based on inspiration from other things or just in random I guess.
Amanda’s Journey to Bringing Jyushi Happiness: I didn’t know how a love at first sight type of story with soulmates au would work out when I wrote it. I was inspired to write the arcade portion of the date because 1. I wanted to write a kiss segment. And 2. I thought arcade dates would be enjoyable XD.
Closing the Distance Between Us: I never expected this would be in sequential order, like I think I mentioned earlier. I intended on this being more like texting and messaging moments between the two while coping with their long distance relationship. Because of this... I... I don’t really know. I didn’t have an excuse to write this XD I just loved the two and my inspiration was the fuel that was this series? Ahahaha XD
You, Me, and Summer: Side I: a lot of romantic feels fueled this fic, among other things. I was inspired to write a whole lot on Jyushi’s hair routine bc of the tsunami season voice lines on ARB. When I did write this, I was also watching a sports anime called Bakuten. It is a Men’s rhythmic gymnastics anime, and it was what I mentioned when Jyushi watches the anime with Ichiro. The game that they all play is the Game of Life, more or less. I played a few games from the game boy edition just to get a grasp on the game ahaha. But the reason why I added this game was because the ARB event that ran me over with Jiro and Jyushi SSRs. They were event scout SSRs... and the fact that I was drowning in Jiroshi feels only to have MORE thanks to official content even if they weren’t in the same team just made me internally scream and dance all night long.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two... destroyed my account in more ways than one. I’m now technically a Jiro and Jyushi stan rather than a Saburo and Jyushi stan bc Saburo or Ichiro on that matter never come home. But thanks to this I had to play enough to rank on two accounts. Thus... the one month delay.
Side I-02: because of this event, I decided that they should okay their own human sized Life game. I had to give tribute to the event that wrecked me aha. When I was writing this, I drew something on the side as well. . . And while I’m not sure I like it anymore, I thought I’d share it as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One hour of watching the sun rise and not being able to sleep led me to drawing this prototype on a whim. And because I’m a fan of drawing Jyushi’s wardrobe... I thought it would be fun ahaha XD I am a newbie still when it comes to digitally drawing but I am happy at how this turned out!
Finally, I will make mention of the haunted house. While hopping through logs on pixiv, I came across some log that showed how Jiro and Jyushi are scared of scary things, but Jyushi is like a sobbing mess and Jiro is just flat out scared. And later, I heard Jiro react negatively to a horror movie in ARB. When I heard this, I couldn’t resist the temptation! And since technically, Jiro and Jyushi don’t know more about each other than you would think, I thought it was a good opportunity to get them to know something else about them.
Sooo... I think that’s all I can think of right now! I hope you enjoyed learning about some of these small tidbits I could remember when I started working on this series. There’s a lot more to this you can look forward to, and I hope you look forward to it!
I will also apologize in advance for the sheer amount of mistakes there may be. I am my own beta, and I’m usually finishing these up at 5am like clockwork XD whenever I hit a slump in my writing, or miraculously reach the end of this series, I will make sure to clean them up I swear TTuTT thank you for understanding QuQ
If you have any questions, you can ask me here! I’ll try to get to them as quickly as possible. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

“I read about a general who was close to my mother during the Clone Wars... General Kenobi. Just maybe.. Do you think he could be my father?”
Previous parts on the masterpost here!
“I read about a general who was close to my mother during the Clone Wars... General Kenobi. Just maybe.. Do you think he could be my father?”
Luke watched Nova's reaction to that news carefully—very carefully. Namely because the moment he suggested it, she choked on her own tongue.
"What?" she asked, then composed herself. Forcibly. "I don't know where you could've possibly got that idea."
Luke crossed his arms, leaned back against the sofa and scowled. "I just explained to you my logic—is he my birth father or not?"
Nova was still struggling to speak, her mouth working fiercely, though no sound came out. She fixed her gaze resolutely on one of the Noghri guards, just over Luke's shoulder, and mouthed something at him.
"He is not," she finally said, decisively and clearly. "General Kenobi was a hero of the Naboo—he and his master, Qui-Gon Jinn, fought to liberate Naboo during the Trade Federation's invasion, and he worked closely with your mother then. I suspect she might have had a slight crush on him at the time, even, but..." She snorted. "He was most certainly not your father, little emperor."
"Do you know who my father was, then?" Luke pressed. Nova cleared her throat.
"I always had heavy suspicions—there was one Jedi whom she was particularly... fond of," she hedged. Luke could sense the part-lie, and frowned. She smiled when she saw that, leaning forwards to run her thumb over his cheek. It distracted him, as it was meant to do; he did not notice as the Noghri guard slipped out to find Lord Vader. "But I was the keeper of her secrets, and I wasn't about to tell anyone my suspicions."
Luke narrowed his eyes. "Including me?"
"They're only suspicions, Luke." Lie. She was getting more nervous now, gaze flickering to the door. "I don't want to—"
"I understand," Luke said.
She blinked, but regained her composure almost instantly, and smiled. "I'm glad. I... don't want to implant any false ideas in your head."
"I understand," Luke repeated. Had he hit the nail on the head? He'd been so certain that Kenobi was his father, and she was so adamant that he wasn't, but this was...
Suspicious...
The door flung open and Vader strode in. Luke jerked upright in his seat, and shot Nova a look. She smiled at him in a way that was both reassuring and grim.
"Why did you summon me?" Vader asked of Luke, but it was Nova who spoke.
"Luke asked a question about his father, and I just wanted to ensure that there were two people he could hear the answer from, instead of just me," she said smoothly. Vader tensed. "He was looking through some of the old Jedi records, and found references to one Obi-Wan Kenobi." Vader tensed even further at that. "Help me convince him that Kenobi was not his father—I'm not sure he believes me alone."
She smiled wryly at Luke. Luke scowled at her.
Vader growled, "Kenobi," and stalked forwards, "was certainly not your father."
Luke raised his eyebrows up at Vader, but he wasn't finished.
"He was a traitor and a fool—one of the Jedi Order's greatest failures. He never deserved anything he got in life except his fall."
"You hated him?"
"I despised him."
But if Luke wasn't mistaken—and if watching too much Crown of Stars had told him anything—then that level of hatred could only come from love. If Vader was so disgusted, so panicked by the idea of Luke thinking, realising, this...
Whoever, Luke's father was, Vader had insulted and derided him before. Claimed he didn't love him. He'd also made it clear that he had loved both of Luke's parents... once upon a time...
Perhaps Luke's guess wasn't as far off as they wanted him to think.
He sighed. "Alright then," he conceded dramatically, letting himself seem dejected. Letting himself seem beaten down. "But can't you tell me who he actually was?"
"He was nobody," Vader answered immediately. Nova shot him a glare for some reason—and another, more urging look—but he said nothing more.
"Alright." Luke didn't bother masking his disappointment at still having secrets kept from him, but clearly, he wasn't getting anything from them here. He trusted Nova, he knew she wouldn't be keeping the truth from him if it wasn't for good reason, but...
It hurt. He wanted to know.
"On the topic of Jedi," Nova said, straightening up and putting her hands on her knees. "Luke, we still need to address the matter of your training."
Luke's gaze snapped up. "I am not—"
"You're not training with Vader. That's confirmed. We all know that." She nodded. Vader... nodded as well, more slowly. "But if the worst comes to the worst, being trained to defend yourself, defend your mind, would help greatly. And..."
Luke closed his eyes as he put the pieces together. "You want me to learn from a Jedi?"
"It is a foolish idea," Vader cut in.
"You, shut up. Of course you don't like it." Nova turned back to Luke. "And I know you probably don't like it either, but—"
"Jedi are evil." Nova flinched."Fat— Palpatine always said—"
"Palpatine said it," she said quietly. "Exactly. Do you not want to—"
"Overturn everything the Empire is based on?" Luke shot to his feet. "No! The Jedi are enemies of the Empire, how do I know they won't kill me, or— or—"
"Because I know this person. She kept me alive after I was chased out of the Palace. She taught me how to shield my mind so that I could look after you." Nova brushed Luke's cheek again, brushed a lock of his hair behind his ear. "She was a close friend of your mother's. And technically," she smiled a little, "she's not even a Jedi."
Vader stiffened. "If you are sending for who I think you are..."
"You know that she will not hurt Luke."
"I know that she will not be pleased to see me."
"On the contrary. She's been wanting to have a chat with you for years. She'd certainly be happier to see you than anyone else would."
Luke looked left, then right. "Who?" he echoed. "Who is this?"
"You'll meet her soon," Nova said. "I've already contacted the person who will get me in contact with her—but she might not want to come. Or she might not be able to come. And the other candidates are less than ideal, but... you need them, Luke. And you will be safe, with them. I promise."
He looked her deep in the eye, blinked away a few tears, then nodded. "Alright. Alright, I'll... give it a try."
"Good." She squeezed his hands, then there was a chiming sound. When she glanced at her comm, she got to her feet immediately. "I have to go," she said. "That's the person I contacted, getting back to me. I'll tell you what he says." She smiled. "It'll be good, Luke."
"I trust you," he said.
She left, folded her dark red skirts around her as she did.
The moment she was gone, Luke turned to Vader and demanded, "What do you think of this?"
Vader crossed his arms. "You know that I dislike it, Majesty."
"Little wonder." Luke gritted his teeth. "And even you won't tell me my father's name?"
"Your father was nothing. I told you. He did not deserve your mother and he certainly did not deserve you."
Luke stared at him... and he realised.
Vader hated everything. Everyone.
Did he hate himself as well?
And if he did, if he was so adamant that Luke speak no more of Obi-Wan Kenobi, of a Jedi who was never reported dead and who vanished around the start of the Empire, when Vader appeared...
Luke narrowed his eyes.
Send me the first sentence of a scene from this AU and I’ll continue it!

Forever
Guzmán x Reader
Request by anon: Hi! I love your writing so much! Would you be able to write a Guzman angst sort of based on the song forever by chvrches from the third season where the reader and him got into a big fight over a topic that was super important to reader and then as they both mature they sort of start yearning for the other, regretting everything that happened and they have a big convo where the emotions come to the surface and it’s where the “i regret the night i told you i would hate you til forever” comes in.
Gif is not my own
Requests are open 🤍
Tumblr media
Hating someone was an odd feeling, especially when you’d once loved them. It wasn’t the type of hate that you felt for something that everybody hated, or the hate you’d dismissively say you had for the rude customer at work, nothing like that. It was this odd, deepest feeling that you almost had to force yourself into sticking to. Like it was a social construct that you couldn’t defy. An expectation based on previous actions that couldn’t just ease over time. You constantly had to remind yourself of the reason why you’d hated them in the first place and supposedly that gave you reason to hate them now. But that couldn’t always be the case. And in the case of you and Guzmán, you don’t think you’d ever felt that feeling properly - you’d just tried to convince yourself that you did.
Now, it was over two years since you’d split up with Guzmán. Since then, a lot had happened. A LOT. You’d watched him fall into the hands of Lu, a little quicker than you’d have expected him to move on. You’d seen him grow into a completely different person, or so you’d assumed. See him lose his sister and his friendship group come crumbling along with it. And, eventually, start to reach more and more complications come up in his relationship with Lu.
That night, the one where it all ended, would always be one you’d never forget.
“Are you taking the piss Guzmán? I wanted you there for one fucking day! One day! Is that really so hard?” You shove at his chest even if it doesn’t knock him an inch.
“something came up, okay? I don’t know how many times it needs to be said!”
“Something came up? I was sat in court watching a jury decide my father’s future and you’re telling me something came up? You’re an asshole Guzmán. You’re a real fucking asshole.”
“What do you want me to say? I’ve apologised haven’t I?”
“A sorry doesnt cut it. It never will. You’re acting like this relationship is some sort of difficulty for you. It shouldn’t be. You should want to be there for me when I need you. I shouldn’t be calling you five minutes before we go in just so I can check one last time if you have any heart left in you and you’ll actually be there for me,” You shake your head, tears threatening their arrival as they brew behind your eyes, “What is it? Is all of this just too much for you? Am I too much for you?”
He remains silent.
“I’ll never forgive you for this Guzmán, the one time I needed you, really fucking needed you - and you couldn’t even do that,” You purse your lips as they tremble.
“Don’t say that (Y/n)... come on, I messed up.”
“Yeah, you’re right, you really did,” You scoff, clicking your tongue as you regain some confidence, “And when I was sat in that court today, watching my Dad be wrongly convicted of a crime he never committed, there was still nobody I hated more than you.”
“Babe, please... don’t say that...” Guzmán winces, reaching out for you with no avail.
“I’ll never forget that feeling Guzmán. Ever.”
For a while, you’d savoured that feeling of that night. Like it was the final piece of feeling that you had of your relationship with that boy. The boy you’d convinced yourself to love constantly and so deeply even at such a young age.
In the past two years, you’d been through your own version of pain - just as Guzmán had. You’d separated so far from each other that it felt like you’d be talking to a stranger if the two of you ever found yourself back together again. You’d spent months proving your fathers innocence until he’d finally been released and it hurt even more when you didn’t have someone to lean on during that whole process. Even in ending your relationship, Guzmán had never really released that hold he had on you - and he never would do. You’d still always think of him, care for him, love him.
It made you question whether you’d been to hasty in your actions that night. Had you jumped the gun on giving up on him so easily? How much would be different if you’d have held your tongue and let it slide as an honest mistake? No, it meant a lot to you that day and it still should do now. Your own questioning wouldn’t change that.
But damn, that boy had the power to make you question it.
- - - - - -
It had been two years since Guzmán had last properly spoken to you. Two years since he’d seen you laugh at something he’d said, or hit him jokingly when he made rude comments in public. Two years since he’d held your hand and placed kisses on your knuckles. Two years since he’d made the worst mistake of his life and let you slip away.
He’d replayed that night over and over, relentlessly questioning how he could ever be so stupid. He should’ve been there. He should’ve held your hand and kept you close beside him, let you cry into him when you watched the worst day of your life unfold. How could he have ever let you go through that alone? In the last two years, Guzmán had grown immensely. He’d become a different person. And in that growth, he’d learnt more and more of what he should’ve done when he had the chance. With that growth, came a deep-set regret that he could never shake.
It wasn’t as simple as just asking you to forgive him for what he’d done. Like he could just explain his side of things and make that into enough to prove that he deserved a second chance. It was two years too late for any of that, and he could never blame you for not seeing his side of things. Sure, he did have an explanation for that day - but you’d always think you were right. And he knew that what you were going through back then was enough to mean his explanation was never going to be enough. He should’ve been there, despite any possible excuse.
He’d tried back then and it hadn’t been successful. That’s when he’d expected that he’d never get a second chance.
“Come on (Y/n) open the door!” He knocks loudly against the wood once again, resting his forehead against the surface, “Please.”
You had already mentally scolded your Mum for opening the front door to him, but you were relieved that you had a lock on your bedroom door and at least could keep one physical barrier between you. Lord knows you didn’t have the strength to keep up any of your own barriers between him and you.
“It’s been a week babe, are you seriously not going to say a word to me anymore?” He used the nickname so flippantly, so naturally.
“We both made it clear where we stand,” You reply coldly, wrapping your arms around yourself even if he couldn’t see your vulnerability.
“That doesn’t mean we can’t fix this,” He hits his hand on the door again but it’s not aggressive, it’s losing hope.
“Yes it does Guzmán,” You state, taking in a shaky breath as you walk closer to the door until you’re leaning your forehead against it. You wanted to be close to him, despite the door being shut between you.
“No, no. Answer me one question and that will prove it,” He reminds you, “Did you mean what you said?”
You close your eyes as a tear slips between them, dropping to the carpet under your feet.
“Come on (Y/n). Did you mean it when you said you hated me?”
He’s pleading with you and himself for the answer to be no. With every fibre of his body he is hoping that you could never possibly have that feeling for him. Please.
Your lack of response is answer enough. Enough of an answer to shatter his heart into a thousand pieces as he turns against the door and slumps against it, slowly sliding down until he’s on the ground.
You can’t hear him sob but you can feel it in you as you do the same.
Both of you realising more and more that this wasn’t a fixable argument.
- - - - - -
“Shit, I’m sorry,” You mumble to yourself as you stumble into another person in the corridor, bending down to help them pick up what you’d just caused them to drop.
You were already late for the interview you’d been waiting for and this clearly wasn’t a good start. You’d got yourself lost in the building and were starting to think that, at this point, you’d shown up at the wrong place.
“Excuse me, do you know where-“ You start to ask somebody walking past you before you realise they’re on the phone and most certainly don’t want to be talking to you.
You sigh and turn to be met with a sight that, really, is the most unexpected thing to see in this moment.
Only metres from you, with the hints of a warm smile on his lips, stands Guzmán. The boy you’d managed to not say two words to in two years, and now found yourself face to face with.
“Seems you haven’t changed,” He comments, words he didn’t expect to be the first that he said to you.
“You’d be surprised,” You scoff, surprising yourself with those being your first words, “Are you here for the job interview?”
“Something like that,” He smirks, “And I’m guessing you are too.”
“Yeah,” You look down at your feet and swallow the lump in your throat.
Eventually, the silence becomes so deafening and you decide instead to take a seat on the chairs around the waiting area.
“I didn’t expect to see you at a place like this,” Guzmán comments, taking the seat two away from you, “This doesn’t really seem like your scene.”
“And being more than two feet away from Lu doesn’t seem like your scene either - but here we are.”
It’s a harsh response. But you didn’t want the small talk.
He looks down and smirks a little, “Touché.”
There’s a low volume of music playing through the corporate office block and you realise more and more that he’s right in saying this isn’t the place for you. Not one person seemed capable of smiling, and they all seemed to scold each other like they’d grown into hating every piece of existence within these walls. Maybe you didn’t want this interview. The music, however, seemed like your one slice of hope for distraction with Guzmán sat only a metre away.
That is until it turns to one specific song. One from a night you’d probably rather forget. The time you’d first got properly drunk and realised that drunk (Y/n) seemed to have a hatred for clothes and a strong liking for pools. Yeah, that was an interesting night.
Guzmán can’t help but smile down at his feet as the memory floods back to him too. The night he’d had to throw you over his shoulder and carry you out of a house party before you broke another vase and it would become impossible for him to cover it up again.
“Stop smiling,” You state quickly, “I don’t need to relive that night again.”
He laughs and you find it impossible to not chuckle a little too, that night had always been a joke between the two of you.
You don’t look at each other but it’s the most you’ve shared in a long time - laughing together at a common memory.
More and more people filter in for their interviews and you become increasingly certain that you didn’t even want the job, let alone the interview beforehand.
“Do you want to get out of here?” Guzmán asks from beside you, leaning over the chair that separated you so that he can ask quietly.
You eye him for a moment and question every instinct you have before you eventually settle on saying, “Definitely.”
You soon find yourself walking through the corridors in an attempt to find your way out, eventually getting through to some sort of grounds area where you’re surrounded by overly fake plants and turf instead of real grass. The lyrics from that song keep playing over and over in your head, resurfacing a wealth of memories with them.
“I know you won’t believe me,” Guzmán starts, “But I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately.”
“Oh no, of course I believe you!” You laugh, “Things with Lu aren’t looking good, and you’re not the type of person to want to be alone.”
“It’s not like that,” He rolls his eyes, “But it’s good to know you stuck to your promise of hating me.”
You glance at him momentarily, it was like you hadn’t ever intended to speak those words. They were all just part of this facade you created to convince yourself that you did still, in fact, hate him. Just playing the game, right?
“A lot’s happened recently, (Y/n). With Marina, everything at school, my father, everything - I’ve realised more and more how shitty it is to go through a bad time,” He explains, “I guess I never really understood why you needed me so much on that day in court - you could handle it yourself, and I wouldn’t have changed the outcome.”
“Guzmán don’t use this as a reason to list why I shouldn’t have been pissed at you-“
“No, no,” He stops in front of you so he’s facing you directly, “What I’m trying to say is that I never really asked why you needed me so much - but I get it now. Because in everything that’s happened, I realised that the one person I needed... was you. And not to make the situation better or to solve the problems or anything, but just for you to be there.”
You look down at your feet and take in a deep breath, “I don’t know what you want me to say Guzmán. That was two years ago.”
“Right. Two years where I’ve realised more and more that I had an answer to that question. One that I should’ve answered when you first asked,” Guzmán explains, “You asked me if this was too much for me, if you were too much for me. Instinctively, I would say no. Why wouldn’t the answer be no?”
You look back up to him because it seems like these are words that he’s been waiting to speak for forever.
“But of course it’s yes. You’re not too much in what you ask for, what you expect. You’re too much in how good you are for me. You’re too kind, patient, supportive- and I didn’t realise the extent of that until I didn’t have it.”
His hands reach for yours and he holds onto them with so much hope that you start to believe it too for just a moment. In those eyes, in that soft grip, you’re starting to see the blurring of your past and the rewriting of your future. You snap out of it too quickly than your heart would’ve liked you to.
“Guzmán,” You push away from him, stepping past to get him out of sight, “What do I say to that?”
“What do you mean?” He sighs, “We’ve had two years to realise how much has changed and how we’ll never find anyone as perfect for each other as we are. Isn’t that enough?”
You turn around and take in his full appearance. Looking at every piece of him that had grown and matured so much in the past twenty four months. Those broken pieces that life had caused and the parts of him that had just about started to heal. And the heaviest wash of regret sits atop your shoulders, heavy enough to knock you down. You’d told this boy that you hated him. That you always would. And that was a regret you’d held ever since.
“I just need you to ask yourself if you think we can recover from what happened that night. But I’m going to ask you one thing I asked you a week after, now two years after - did you mean it when you said you hated me? That you’d always hate me?”
You let out a shaky breath, “I’ll always regret the night I told you I’d hate you forever.”
In those words, it’s like Guzmán is tearing down every piece of every barrier that had built up between you two. He strides toward you and his instant instinct would be to kiss those lips that he’d been waiting to kiss for years. But this connection was deeper than that. And when his arms wrap tightly around you and he engulfs you in that same scent from way back when, he expresses much more than a kiss ever could.
“Seems you haven’t changed,” He mumbles into your shoulder, referencing his words from earlier as he smirks against your skin.
You pull back and cup one side of his jaw in your hand, “You’d be surprised.”
He chuckles and dips his head to finally press that kiss to you, strong and certain.
Yeah, surprised was one word for whatever he was feeling. And he’d savour that mix of emotions for as long as he could, letting it erase away all of the pain.

my precious partner
i posted this on AO3 and am posting it here
You know, I love video games. Any kind, really. I would get the classics and the new. Hell, I even have some old game consoles in storage just waiting for me to get them out. I had a Pokemon super mystery dungeon that I played from front to back several times. But I lost it on the move to my new apartment. You know when your things like to disappear then reappear when you're not looking for it? Yeah. I've had that happen. So I assumed that it was playing hide and seek. A few weeks into living in my new apartment, I found a game cartridge for the Super mystery dungeon game in the apartment. I would have had a 'gotcha' moment, if it had not been for the fact that the game was found in the guest bedroom, under an old dresser that the previous owner had left behind. I took out my 3ds and put the game in, half wondering if it was my game. But sadly that's not how it goes. When I got to the game file, I saw a save file for “Chetari”. The Pokemon for the file was a Cyndaquil. By the looks of the file, the person who left the game behind was still in the third chapter. I loaded up the file and everything seemed normal. The game had booted up to Drilbur coal Mine. Right before the fight with the Gabite. I had smirked and decided ‘Okay, I’ll bite’, and I began to play. I had noticed the partner pokemon chosen was a Totodile named Draco and also, a Chikorita named TigerLily, which I found odd. There was no option for a second partner in any copies of the game. So I figured it was a hack. I took a few breaks throughout the day, though noticing differences in the game slightly. Having played the game multiple times, I had a lot memorized. The partner pokemon, Draco, seemed….much more clingy than the partner was supposed to. When in a dungeon, Draco would stick by the player pokemon. I had to test it out. So while in a dungeon, I was on a straight path. A Bidoof behind me. I had gotten her after I helped the Bidoof connected to Wigglytuff’s Guild. Or at least, the Cameo. In the Original game, you could recruit that particular Bidoof. But not a sibling. Which made me think this was again, a hack. So I had Bidoof behind me, right, so I had gotten into a battle with a zubat in the dungeon and somehow Draco ended up behind Chetari, much to my confusion. I tried it out several times but ended up with the same results. Further along in the game, I had gained on my team, not including the partner pokemon, a Gabite, Gengar, Bidoof, Absol, and a Galarian Ponyta. A pokemon that you cannot get within the game. I had to throw up my hands in confusion. Whoever created this hacked game, did a wonderful job. Nonetheless, the clinginess of the partner seemed to grow. It was 2 in the morning when I got to the end. In the original end, you have to meet with your partner pokemon to say goodbye on top of the hill. I moved Chetari to the hill to start the end scene. I sat back and began to read the dialogue, expecting the same crap as always. But the dialogue was completely different. I sat up straight and had my attention completely on the 3DS. I had also expected the Chikorita, TigerLily, to be included in the cut scene as well. But she wasn’t there. “Some adventure we had huh Chetari?” Draco’s head looked to the Cyndaquil next to him. Chetari nodded her head with a smile. “Yes, it was a very...interesting one. We helped Pokemon in need, met them in their secret bases, sometimes having to fight them because those secret bases were really just a trap, we met Entei, Suicune and Raikou and Jirachi's friend Celebi. We did a lot for a couple of children if you ask me.” Draco’s sprite smiles. "Ha, yeah, it was pretty crazy. All of them were. But I guess it wasn't so bad, we made a lot of friends. Sorry about Nuzleaf though.” Chetari’s head looked down at the ground with a frown on her face. There was no dialogue for at least a minute or two before Chetari’s dialogue popped up on screen. "I miss him. I know he did some bad things, but I still miss him. He felt like a dad to me, I didn't even get a chance to call him dad." her sprite had teary eyes, making me feel bad. The Totodile waddled over to the Cyndaquil and gave her a hug. It was pretty wholesome. I paused as I could hear a small, almost inaudible sigh from the speakers. At first I didn't think it was from the handheld device and looked around the room, but couldn’t find anything. I turned my attention back to the screen as Draco’s dialogue box popped up. "Chetari, I'm going to be honest with you. There's something you need to know." the Cyndaquil’s head gives a nod to let him continue. "I have to go. Part of the darkness is in Mew, who is me partly. Now that the darkness is gone, I have to go..." Even without the small picture box that shows when the dialogue box pops up, you could see the heartbreak on her face. The Totodile hugged her tight. "Don't go Draco. You're my best friend." the box that showed the character sprite had tears streaming down her face. The sprite of Draco’s moved. His arm moved up and down to rub Chetari’s back. "Just promise not to forget me." The head of the Cyndaquil nodded up and down, "I won't forget you Draco. I promise." The amount of wholesome I had witnessed was the equivalent of pure cane sugar. I most definitely did not have any tears in my eyes. But I was thrown for a loop when Draco’s text dialogue pops up. But the text was in parenthesis. It had read ("Lies, lies, lies. That's what they said. That's what they ALL said. What did they go and do? They FORGOT me. We all said we would be best friends forever. They LIED to me. You're not going to forget me Chetari, I'll make sure you won't forget me either. You CAN'T forget me. You WON'T forget me. I won't LET you forget me. You're my partner, my precious partner.") I knew the kid had issues within the game. But this had been weird as hell. A bad feeling had begun to creep into my stomach as I watched what unfolded. "Chetari, you'll miss me. Right my wonderful partner?" The Cyndaquil took a step away from Draco and gave a nod. "Can you do me just one favor? A small one before we go?” The Sprite nodded to what would be akin to an ‘anything’. "Can we hug again? Just one last time?" The Cyndaquil’s sprite lit up and waddled over to the Totodile. Something caught me off guard. The face of Draco. He had a sweet look on his face. But the smile was more of a smirk and not easily noticeable unless you looked for it. Everything happened fast. And the next action left me silent. Draco stabbed his whole hand right in the middle of Chetari's chest. The camera had turned to give me a clear view of her back. It was clear that Draco was starting to fade. The sprite box for Chetari popped up with the dialogue box, Blood shown on her chin. "D-D-Draco..... Wh-Wh-Why.....?" The sprite box for Draco looked particularly Cheerful, self-satisfied. "Why? So you wouldn't forget me. Others have forgotten me. But not you, you can't forget me. You won't forget me. And you won't replace me. This is the only way for it to work. You'll always remember me. You'll keep me in your mind as you take your last dying breath. You always will be, my precious partner" I was not able to see what Draco did before he faded. But when he did, the overworld sprite of Chetari tumbled down the hill. Pokemon from the nearby area gathered around the child pokemon… A dialogue box popped up that simply said “Draco”... That’s when the screen turned to black. I sat back in stunned silence. I ran my fingers through my hair. Whoever made this was a sadist. Putting the game down, I went to the kitchen for a drink. When i came back, a new dialogue box had appeared and it read “you won’t forget about me, will you?”

Silent Echoes
Bucky Barnes x Reader
Warnings: may have missed a few swears while editing... IDK excessive Beyonce (Can that even be a thing), Mentions of previous sound deprivation.
Summary: Bucky and Sam have a friendly feud that will last for the decades. This time Sam’s immaturity reaches extremes and Bucky is ready to gouge his ears out. Will you sacrifice your own peace to help Bucky, or are you going to leave him to stew in his self made agony.
Word Count:1,241
Tumblr media
Bucky was always surprised by the range of sounds that surrounded him every day. No matter where he went, there was some kind of noise.  Even when he was wandering the half-empty halls of the compound or trying to find peace in the nearby wildlife. It didn't even matter the time of day. Chatter, arguments, gunshots, the clicking of type keys, songbirds, owls, snoring, panting, and music.
Don't get him wrong it wasn't that Bucky hated the symphony that surrounded him. Often times, he found himself sitting out of the way just listening to the choirs that he could hear. It was preferable to the silence that had surrounded him during his time with HYDRA. They had been vigilant in keeping him from overhearing anything that could have derailed his compliance and, therefore, had soundproofed everything tenfold.
Today, however, the noise had gotten to be too much. It took every ounce of willpower in Bucky's enhanced being not to stuff his ears with cotton and scream himself just to drown out the sounds. It didn't help that Sam was on his case about his "outdated" sense in music, again. Blasting Tupac, Beyonce, and a multitude of other LOUD musicians, so loud that even if Bucky wasn't enhanced, he would still be able to hear it in any of the Avengers' designated rooms of the compound. Since he WAS, though, he ended up being physically unable to get far enough away from the petulant man-child's antics.
Taking a deep breath, Bucky stared into the high skylights of his current hiding place, fighting back the frustrated tears that were pushing against his eyelids. There has to be someplace where the noise stops. Somewhere where he can sit and not be distracted by someone's footsteps or triggered by someone's idle conversations. Someplace safe.
Before Bucky could fall further into his frustrations, a soft set of footprints danced their way to the opposite side of the sparring mats where he laid sprawled out on his back. He looked up to see you execute a perfect tumbling pass only to end up lying on your back perpendicular to him, your head gently coming to rest on his hard belly.
"SO, what did you do to get Sam riled up this time?" You say, draping your friend and teammate's arm out from under you before playing with his fingers. "Honestly, I have no clue," He sighs, causing you to look up into his face. "I wish I knew how to make it stop, though." He looked at you with the most sincere puppy-dog eyes you have ever seen, the unshed tears enhancing your view into his hopelessness.
"So you didn't happen to say, 'Sam shut off that shit, or I swear to god I will beat you until you no longer have any hearing left,' or some such nonsense while he was listening to Beyonce on repeat this morning?" You smirk, knowing full well that he did. "You recognize that he worships that woman. He could put Tony's obsession with himself to shame."
Sighing, he looks away, "Yeah, But can you blame me? He had been listening to the ONE song for Hours, Echo. HOURS."
Smiling at him sympathetically. "Winter, you could've been a bit nicer. Though honestly, if you hadn't done it, I would have. I don't think he realizes how much we can hear. I know Steve just dealt with his antics because he's a saint. But sadly, neither of us are, and he isn't here to curb Sam's crazy."
Bucky grimaces at the reminder of his best friend's newfound sabbatical. "Yeah, Steve is good at that sort of thing. But that doesn't solve our current problem. How are we going to get him to stop?"
"We don't need him to stop, you need him to stop," you correct your now perplexed human pillow. "I fully intend to use my own personal Batcave. Wait out the worst of the storm. According to FRIDAY's statistics, he should get tired of this shit in about three hours, should be just enough time to read a romance novel, take a nap, and maybe even paint a little bit."
You could feel the eyebrows on Bucky's raise in disbelief. "You can't possibly have somewhere on base that can block out sound well enough for you to not hear this hysteria."
Laughing, "You think I didn't make that my first stipulation when I moved into this madhouse to join this merry band of heroic misfits?   I knew you've taken your fair share of head blows, but I thought the glowing blue stuff they filled your veins with prevented CTE." You lean up onto your grounded forearm into a sideways plank before flipping into a cartwheel over Bucky's chest. "I'm not sure how you haven't found it. Tony made it into a literal dead zone. It's like a giant box of silence that sound bounces off of like steve's patriotic frisbee and BBEG noggins."
Bucky shakes his head, bemused by your antics. "Doll, if you haven't noticed, I don't echolocate shit. That's what you are paid for. and I figured that since your private rooms were basically soundproof that Tony had done his best."
Still smirking playfully at him. "Stark rarely does less than perfect work, Barnes, especially when he pairs his brain with Shuri's. You should know that since you wear one of their mechanical miracles connected to your shoulder almost all the time."
"Yeah, yeah, laugh all you want," He mutters.
"Hey, don't be such a leech." You say, nudging the aforementioned limb with your toe.
Staring up at you defensively, he pouts, "I am not a leech, what does that even mean?
"It means you suck all of the joy out of me teasing you. You know I don't mean to cause harm, I care for you and all the shiny, mechanical bits that come along for the ride."
He scrunches his face up in distaste. "Thanks, I guess." He mutters, before quickly changing the subject, "So you said something about a bat cave? Since you care for me so much, does that mean you'll take pity on my soul and take me with you?" at this point, he would do anything to keep from having to listen to the blasting beats Sam kept popping out of what feels like nowhere.
"I don't know, Bucky. It might not be up to your sensibilities."
"Please don't make me beg." He states, staring up at your mock contemplation. He watches as the corners of your lips twitch ever so slightly.
"What will you do for me if I share?"
"I am sorely tempted to say anything, but I'm sure I will regret it if I do. What would you like me to do for you?" He says, his eyes pleading with you to go easy on him.
"Is there any chance of convincing you to read my penny romance to me?" "If it gets me out of this endless tirade of music, I will even act out all the kissing scenes for you. Just show me the way, dollface."
"Well, if you are offering, I definitely can't say no to watching your performance, Mr. Barnes." You smile and turn toward the abandoned yoga studio in the back corner of the training area.
Bucky groans as he gets up from the floor. Unsure of whether or not he just wrote himself a death sentence by romance novel instead of by music.

WW2GI and the saving private ryan TC for duke nukem 3D: a level-by-level breakdown
EPISODE 1: D-DAY
the first half of the game starts off with a bang as you're dropped right into it with the omaha beach landings; from there you'll go on through the hedgerows and villages of normandy, killing nazis left and right and dying... again... and again... and again. according to the credits, we can thank tuoma "tuco" korva and lado "icebreaker" crnologar for the level design, but i've no way of telling you who did which.
Tumblr media
E1L1: d-day what's more iconic in united states military history during WW2 than omaha beach? this recreation of the bloody battle might not be as lethal as the real thing, but it sure is nearly as nightmarish. the game throws you in deep real fast and you're forced to learn, through trial and error, the basics of the game, all the while random explosions and bullets out of nowhere will cut your gameplay short. you'd think they'd at least give us some basic training... even medal of honor frontline was more forgiving.
Tumblr media
E1L2: atlantic wall omaha beach, part 2. you're alone for this one, you and several dozen enemy troops as you work your way through a complex of shattered bunkers and rail lines. not much sense to the layout on this one, though cool carnage as a row of parked trucks are annihilated in an artillery explosion -- along with all the nazi goons hiding behind them.
Tumblr media
E1L3: defend you meet up with some friendlies just in time for a panicked radio message -- a squad is pinned down under enemy fire and need help. working your way through a flooded village and a forest infested with nazis, you eventually come upon the squad, hiding in some foxholes as a couple dozen enemy mysteriously teleport in by a hedgerow on the far end of the field. aside from some extra ammo, you also get access to an artillery strike via radio and a mortar launcher. hold out long enough and a gate will open with reinforcements behind, and the exit beyond.
Tumblr media
E1L4: hunt for the 88s jesus christ. if you managed to get through the d-day map without getting too frustrated you may wind up throwing in the towel on this one, an extremely dark night mission in the woods where the enemy can see you but you can't see them, and they always have insanely good aim. the one thing it has going for it is a pretty cool scripted sequence where you and a squad of guys traverse a bit of forest, exchanging some bad banter -- very cool for the build engine! and then they all die in an ambush, leaving you to play audie murphy -- again.
Tumblr media
E1L5: finding private mccurkee first of all, lol. second of all, this mission is actually almost fun. a ruined little town teeming with enemy, you'll have an opportunity to use a rifle to pop enemies from a distance, which will be useful as there's plenty of snipers. a mortar team will make your life hell near the end. it's fun working your way through the ruined buildings and finding ways to climb up into otherwise inaccessible rooms.
Tumblr media
E1L6: saving private mccurkee did you like e1l5? how would you like to do it again, only this time in reverse, in the dark, and with an NPC in tow that you have to babysit -- assuming he doesn't get his dumb ass stuck in the foxhole right at the beginning of the level and then you don't notice he's done it so you save your game like a dumbass and now you have to noclip through the gate at the end because the idiot doesn't know how to climb?
yeah. i didn't like e1l6.
Tumblr media
E1L7: mop up the final mission of the d-day episode is a mercifully daytime shootout across a semi-detatched military complex in which you shoot a bunch of nazis, blow up some tanks, dodge some artillery fire and, in the end, lay waste to a small, fenced-in compound guarded by SS, who distinguish themselves from regular grunts by their distinctive black uniforms and red nazi armbands. just hanging around them lowers your morale; ignoring the fact that the morale system makes no sense, this does amusingly give rise to the idea that the SS are so evil that they can sap you on a psychic level.
i mean, that's true of nazis today.
final thoughts: not a good first half. maybe three or four of the levels are salvageable; the rest are unmitigated shit, especially e1l4. while this is very likely the first-ever WW2 FPS to feature the omaha beach landings and the normandy invasion at large, it's a novelty at best, an exercise in frustration that shows the limits both of the engine and the designers' talents.
EPISODE 2: FRANCE
not sure what exactly distinguishes this episode from the previous, except that it's perhaps a continuation of the battle of normandy? who knows. regardless, it's another 7 levels of this shit, because they couldn't see what they did in episode 1 and think "we've done enough damage."
Tumblr media
E2L1: hell from above a much more sensible first level, this is essentially a sweep-and-clear mission as you work your way (alone, of course) through a cute little village along a river. lots of wide open space means little cover for you, but it also makes combat a bit of a turkey shoot (especially with auto-aim on.) oddly you get tons of MP40 ammo -- even maxing it out -- before you ever actually get the MP40.
Tumblr media
E2L2: seaside sweep a quick jaunt through a seaport. lots of nazis, and lots of BAR ammo to perforate them with. would actually be a decent level if not for an issue i ran into -- i don't know if it's endemic to the game or if it's a bug introduced by eduke32 -- that placed two very large wall texture sprites in the map that blocked my view of the final building, forcing me to god mode just to be able to approach the place.
Tumblr media
E2L3: under fire similar to "defend" from the first episode, the first half of this mission involves you facing off against endlessly respawning waves of germans until such time that you're called to retreat through the village, which is swarming with germans. clear your way through it and you're treated to a grisly scene of SS troops forming a firing squad to execute captured allied prisoners. definitely feels like a precursor to the early call of duty levels. it's not *too* bad a level i guess.
Tumblr media
E2L4: paperwork it's time to attack an SS-occupied chateau in this quick little mission. it starts off surprisingly easy with a short, linear path that takes you through some countryside. a heavily fortified bridge serves as the main defense of the chateau and every window bristles with guns. get inside the chateau walls and it's wall-to-wall SS, draining your morale with every burst of their MP40s and having the infuriating tendency to have your shots (especially your BAR) go right through them.
Tumblr media
E2L5: railroad typhoon you've been tasked with rescuing a bunch of captured allied troops who've been put on a train, which means storming a trainyard. it's mostly wide open spaces here, though there is a cool part in a connecting tunnel where you're checking train cars. the trainyard itself is comparatively vast, and enemy fire comes from all directions. relatively fun map.
Tumblr media
E2L6: a game of bridge like the name suggests, the key feature of this level is a bridge, currently occupied by a tank and a large contingent of nazis. to get there you'll have to fight your way through the town; across the river are rows of windows from which the enemy shoots at you (a common feature in this episode that i'm starting to suspect may be a favorite feature of one of the mappers.)
Tumblr media
E2L7: urban rush the finale of WW2GI involves fighting your way through a massive urban area to rescue a captured general. this is probably the largest level in the episode; with an enemy around every corner. while it's otherwise an interesting, intense level (a small legion of semi-invincible SS notwithstanding) there's a frustrating bit where you must go through a no-man's-land of sorts that's constantly being bombarded by artillery.
final thoughts: a significantly better second half, but the problem is, that's not saying much. it still suffers from issues endemic to the game, like the insane reaction times of the enemy, the massive damage they do to you, and so on. however, the gameplay is much more straightforward for the most part, with no NPCs to babysit, no weird trial-and-error "wtf do i do next" issues, just pure nazi slaughter. now if only the game didn't suck.
PLATOON LEADER
platoon leader is a free expansion for WW2GI that adds three more levels to the game and several additional features. two of these, inexplicably, are set during the vietnam war, a throwback to TNT team's earlier outing NAM (which itself was a sequel to their earlier free mod for duke nukem 3D 'platoon,' based on the movie of the same name.) the remaining level, however, is set in the pacific theater of world war 2. the result is that the armory is a mix of WW2 and vietnam war-era weaponry, with the level design such that you won't receive weapons that don't belong in the era you're playing. speaking of level design, no clue who did this one, but i want to punch them.
Tumblr media
PLT_E1L1: hill 41 eeeuuugh. you start at the base of a hill. while you have a radio that can call in both a tank assault as well as an air strike, your main strategy is going to be charging up a hill swarming with IJA troops. while the hill is actually rather realistically constructed, with varying slopes and flat planes, this is about the only interesting facet of the level design as the entire hill is covered in invisible land mines and enemy shooting at you. making matters worse is that the game seemingly arbitrarily will declare the mission a failure and cover the screen with a failure notice, forcing you to restart. i even god-moded my way up to the top, killed everything i could, blew up the tunnel entrance, and still failed. this level sucks.
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN TC* FOR DUKE NUKEM 3D
"saving private ryan" is a landmark war film that changed how war movies were made and inflamed the imaginations of game designers everywhere. imagine storming omaha beach from the comfort of your own home; imagine fighting through the hedgerows. while the commercial game "WW2GI" was the very first world war II-themed FPS that wasn't wolfenstein with its abstract mazes and mad science, "saving private ryan TC," released a few months after WW2GI (and using some stolen assets from it), was an attempt by a small group of duke 3d fans to recreate their favorite war movie. in this mod for duke nukem 3D are five levels, each one representing a key scene from the film. an archived version of the mod's website lists two people as level designers: jeff (using the name eXtreme-Rush) and jody (using the name kissle.) i couldn't tell you who did which maps, not that it terribly matters.
* note: TC stands for total conversion, an older term for what we'd now simply call a mod
Tumblr media
SPRL1: ohmaha beach yes, that's how it's spelled. basically a worse version of ww2gi's d-day map, it can be done in a matter of seconds. once you blow the shingle and get up onto the ridge it's just nazi city in the trenches beyond, and ammo is scarce -- you're better off just running towards the crater with the movie poster in it.
Tumblr media
SPRL2: vierville very short little jaunt through a war-torn village, with a squad of useless soldiers following you. the ruined applecart from the movie is here, as is the half-blown out house; a lone enemy up in a tower is easily dispatched, but figuring out how to get past the invisible wall blocking your further progress is tougher.
Tumblr media
SPRL3: bunker another short level, a charge up a hill with the enemy already firing at you. the bunker itself with the radar is cool-looking, at least.
Tumblr media
SPRL4: the fields basically "bunker" but with tall, semi-transparent grass sprites everywhere. kill all the nazis and then go talk to the US soldiers hiding near the burning halftrack, and you're on to the finale.
Tumblr media
SPRL5: last battle probably the closest this thing gets to a real level, and it sucks ass. you'll not hurt for ammo, and health items actually show up here, but the place is teeming with enemy and cover is light. get across the bridge and you're done.
final thoughts: whoof. while it's true they recreated the setpieces, it comes at the expense of gameplay. the levels are, in a word, ugly and simple, with little in the way of anything distinctive. the whole thing can be gotten through in about 10-15 minutes; wouldn't it have been more fun to simply mix the movie's story beats into a broader game that more closely resembles WW2GI? sometimes i wonder what happened to the mod team; it's clear they were young when they made this (weren't we all, back then...) i guess in the end i admire what they were trying to do, and i appreciate that they were young and didn't really think this through. but it just doesn't work.

Title: The Siren Depths (2012) (The Books of the Raksura #3)
Author: Martha Wells
Genre/Tags: Fantasy, Adventure, LGBT Protagonist, Third-Person
Rating: 8/10
Date Began: 11/09/2020
Date Finished: 11/21/2020
Moon's past has always been obscure. A winged shapeshifter, he has spent most of his life as a solitary wanderer. He has few memories of his childhood, and only recently found others of his kind-- the Raksura. Now Moon has found a home as first consort to the queen Jade in the Raksuran court of Indigo Cloud.
However, when a neighboring queen recognizes his bloodline, Moon's new life is upended as he's forced to return to a family he doesn't even remember. Seemingly abandoned by Jade and overcome with doubt, Moon has to navigate the complex politics and grave secrets in the court of Opal Night alone. But an old enemy is about to return, threatening every Raksuran court in the Reaches.
The one thing he hadn’t expected to do was miss Indigo Cloud so much. He had been leaving people all his life, to the point where all the turns seemed like an uninterrupted progression of departures, and there had been people he had missed terribly. But this was a never-ending ache in his chest... You’ll get over it, he told himself. You always get over it.
But somehow, this time was different.
Some major spoilers and content warning(s) under the cut.
Content warnings for the book:  As always, graphic violence and action. There is a disturbing scene that's... kind of forced cannibalism I guess (I'm not sure how else to describe it). Some sexual content is implied but not graphic. The r*pe plot point from The Cloud Roads is relevant, but is not depicted or described in detail. A romantic relationship with a significant age gap is briefly mentioned (both are consenting adults but it may make some readers uncomfortable).
For the most part, I enjoyed The Siren Depths more than the previous entries. I connected much more strongly to the central conflict, and was pleased to see some deeper character development than in the last two books. This entry also introduces fascinating new settings and characters while exploring some genuinely interesting ideas. It serves as a good parallel to The Cloud Roads, with similar plot beats explored in different ways. I did have one big problem which I will detail further in the review, but let's talk about the good parts first. Moon's conflict in this story, like the rest of the series, has to do with belonging. But The Siren Depths has the advantage of two books of development. From what we know of Moon's past, he sees any home as temporary, and when he's suddenly forced to leave Indigo Cloud (presumably for good), his new attachments and way of life come into question. To some degree, Moon sees this as an inevitable part of his life. Sooner or later, something out of his control will happen and he'll be abandoned. What I found relatable is there's several times Moon knows he is being irrational but still can't stop the negative downward spiral. Like... jeez, just call me out specifically next time! While a depressed protagonist can be a drag to read, I think it really works here because we've grown attached to Moon and know how far he's come. And sure enough, he does get his ass in gear when he realizes this ISN'T like before, and lots of people do care about him. The found vs biological family conflict is interesting as well. I think The Siren Depths does great here because you can see both points of view. Moon always assumed his biological family died, and they assumed the same thing about him. This should be a happy homecoming, but under the circumstances simply isn't. Moon resents being torn from Indigo Cloud because a group of people he barely remembers have a legal claim on him. Opal Night seems strangely hostile until you learn more about its politics and secrets. Even though they're early antagonists, they're not really villains; just a traumatized group of people who see Moon as a missing link from their past. When he's not what the others are expecting, obvious issues ensue, but Moon finds he does care about some of these people, even if it's not really his home. Outside of Moon, several other characters have arcs in this book. While the previous books feature a likeable enough cast, the characters are mostly one dimensional. Not so here; we explore the insecurities and struggles of some of the supporting cast. Jade isn't nearly as self-confident as she appears to be, and grapples with this throughout the book-- for example, wanting to prove to Moon that she is willing to do whatever it takes to get him back. Similarly, Chime's struggle with his involuntary transformation comes to a head here as his strange new powers become relevant again. We see just how bitter he is that he's cut off from his old magical gifts and still holds out hope that they'll return. We even get some indication that while this HAS happened before in Raksuran history, it's incredibly rare. There’s also an interesting hint on what the powers really are, which has some pretty big implications. This is potentially a future plot point, so I’m hoping it gets explored. (Also, I was totally right about Moon/Chime, do I get a prize?)
There are several new characters I found really interesting, namely Malachite and Shade.  Malachite (spoiler: Moon's biological mother) is initially presented as the antagonist, and her behavior seems inscrutable. She's a powerful queen who commands respect, yet seems unpredictable and standoffish. All of this starts to make sense as one learns more about her. Turns out unbelievable, extended trauma really fucks with a person. The Fell destroyed her colony, killed her consort and most of her children, and she spent almost a year in full guerilla warfare against them. Yet she adopted the Fell/Raksura crossbreeds and raised them as her own children, demonstrating nothing but indulgent love and kindness towards them. I'm not sure I would be able to do that in her place. In general she's just a huge badass; totally decked out in scars and the first to leap into battle. At least we know where Moon gets it from.  Did I say Fell/Raksura crossbreeds? Yup, that plot point is back. Only, it's explored in a different way here. The crossbreeds in The Cloud Roads are terrifying weapons deployed by the Fell. The ones in The Siren Depths, raised in a loving home, are just kind of weirdly pale Raksura. I liked Shade in particular, who we learn is Moon's half brother and serves as an interesting foil. Moon would probably be much more like Shade if the Fell attack on Opal Night never happened. Shade is an earnest and kind (if naïve) man and behaves like none of the Fell we’ve met in the series. I hope we see more of him (and Lithe, the other crossbreed) in future volumes, because I think they're an interesting take on nature vs nurture with the "inherently" evil Fell.  Speaking of the Fell, while they themselves haven't changed much, I thought they were more effective villains than in The Cloud Roads. We see their manipulations and twisted views of the world in much more detail. There's a long sequence where much of the main cast is captured by The Fell, and their struggle to survive and potentially escape is harrowing. I also like that Moon isn't their main focus this time, which adds some nuance and perspective to their behavior. They’re also just... creepy as shit. While I do have some issues with the ending of the book, I think the Fell are handled pretty well beforehand.
I'd be remiss to ignore the always excellent worldbuilding in this series. Like in The Serpent Sea, we get to see more Raksuran courts, all of which feel distinct. It’s cool and impressive for a singular fantasy race to have multiple believable factions and societies. The settings in this book are also creative, including a giant half-dead mountain tree, a city carved into a giant statue, and what I can only describe as "Rapture, but make it a solarpunk prison". Wells goes into vivid, loving detail when it comes to the world. That being said, I would like to see more of the sea/sky realms, since this series has largely focused on the earth. The Three Worlds is kind of a misnomer if two of them don't really show up much. Oh well, maybe in future books/stories.
My main complaint, and what drags down the rating, is the ending. It's... underwhelming, confusing, and seems pretty rushed. I'll go into more detail below. *major spoilers for the ending* So... one of the big plot points in both The Cloud Roads and The Siren Depths is that the Fell are crossbreeding with captured Raksura. In The Cloud Roads, this is explained as a ploy to strengthen the Fell with some unique Raksuran abilities; queens can prevent others from shifting, mentors can scry future events, and so on. In The Siren Depths, however, we learn it's not that simple. There's some third party manipulating the Fell and encouraging their actions. The goal is to produce a crossbreed that physically resembles the (unnamed) Fell/Raksura common ancestor for... reasons. We are led to believe the being orchestrating this is in fact an ancient ancestor, though its motives are unknown.
While this feels like a retcon, the discrepancy is acknowledged in the story, and it is explained that the Fell in The Cloud Roads were either lying or those specific ones decided to pursue their own agenda. Which... fine, makes sense based on what we know about them. I'll let it slide. Perhaps it was hinted at earlier and I just don’t remember.
So Moon and the others follow the Fell to the mysterious source, a vast and abandoned underwater city. Soon they find the creature that's been imprisoned there. Turns out it's not the Fell/Raksura ancestor, but something different. I can only describe it as sort of eldritchy, with a vaguely creepy physical form, and the abilities to speak through dead/dying Fell and to create disturbingly realistic illusions. The Fell/Raksuran ancestors trapped it there eons ago, and the only way to free it is the physical presence of a member of the ancestor species (for some reason). Which explains why it has been encouraging the crossbreeding, since their common ancestor is presumably extinct. It's freed from its prison since Shade fits the "ancestor" criteria based on his physical appearance. Then,  in the span of literally one chapter, it attacks everyone, chases the characters through the underwater city, gets hit by some water, then promptly melts like the Wicked Witch of the West and dies.
I had a couple problems with this ending. First, the whole Fell crossbreeding conflict with the Raksura is a huge generational trauma thing. Moon has his own horrible experience with them, of course, but it's also a big issue with both Indigo Cloud and Opal Night. Hell, it's the whole reason Moon was separated from his family and lived thirty-some years in exile without knowing what he was. The series literally wouldn't have happened without this conflict. To have everything explained away by "an eldritch wizard did it" is very anticlimactic. I vastly prefer the original explanation.
Second, we know basically nothing about this creature. How was it able to communicate with the Fell (and Chime)? Why was it imprisoned other than being super evil and stuff? Who knows. And yeah, it's possible this will be expanded on later. Except I'm pretty sure that when this book came out, it was the last one planned for the series. The next two books follow a different storyline and came out four years later. So this was probably the only explanation we were ever going to get.
I'm not totally against the concept, but it needed more time and a more interesting/memorable villain for it to work. Introducing all of this in the second to last chapter of (presumably) not only the book but the series, then defeating it with little effort, feels unsatisfying. Hell, there’s more time dedicated to discovering and exploring its prison than anything involving the creature itself! As it stands, the Fell were much creepier and more memorable bad guys in this book, yet narratively serve as bit players in the end. It just feels off.
Also, a nitpick, but the title of the book is weird. The Siren Depths is obviously referring to this imprisoned being. It's trapped underwater and is calling the Fell to it. But it's never referred to as a siren; I'm not sure that word is used at all in the book. It just seems like an odd choice of title that doesn't really fit the vernacular of the world. Siren has some very specific meanings/connotations in our world that don't translate to The Three Worlds. Not a huge deal, just something I noticed.
*ending spoilers end here*
Despite my issues with the ending, I really enjoyed everything else about the book. It does everything the other books do well while featuring serious improvements. I've heard mixed things about the next two books but plan to go in with an open mind.

4x04 | Revival of the Fittest
Episode Description:  Andi works on her first major art project for school. Jonah and Amber help Cyrus with his image. Buffy and Marty‘s competitive nature leads to problems in their relationship.
Based on my Andi Mack Season 4 episode descriptions
Previous Episode
...
The episode opens with Bex and Bowie sitting at the kitchen table. Andi is in the other room on the floor with a ton of random stuff surrounding her. Bex and Bowie are watching her with curiosity as they try to quietly guess what she’s going to make. “A giant butterfly?” Bowie offers, cocking his head. // “Maybe a globe? Or a quilt,” Bex adds. // “Those are two completely different things! How could you guess two opposite things?” // Bex punches him in the shoulder and rolls her eyes. Andi still looks hard at work but stops for a second to smile up at them before going back to her project. Suddenly, Bex gets a weird expression on her face, one that Bowie’s never seen before. He rubs her shoulder. “What’s up?” // “Nothing, I just...” Bex trails off. “I’ve been thinking about something a lot recently. Remember those lists we made before we got married about what we want in the future? I was thinking that maybe I want to do one of them.” // Bowie looks confused at first, but suddenly understanding lights up on his face. “Are you sure...?” // Bex bites her lip. “I think so.” // Before they can discuss it any further, Andi groans in frustration. “This is hopeless!” // Bex laughs, going into the family room to join her. “How about some pizza while you rest your brain?” // They continue talking, voices fading out as we see Bowie watching them for a moment, thinking about something before finally running in to join them.
The next scene shows Andi in a classroom decorated with tons of ceramics, indicating she’s in pottery class. At the board, her teacher begins to describe their first big project of the semester upon which 20 percent of their grade will depend. Andi is super excited and has an amazing idea to do something that will be really over the top and cute and really her. As she starts brainstorming ideas on paper, a girl behind her walks up and asks incredulously, “You really think you’ll be able to do that?”
Andi gets offended because of course she can, and she goes to explain that to the girl until she realizes that this is the girl who she ran into on the first day! She had no idea the girl was even in this class with her. “Oh my god, you’re the person I ran into on my first day! I am so sorry for that, again.” // “Whatever, it’s fine,” the girl shrugs, “but I’d take my advice if I were you.” // Then she stalks away leaving Andi confused.
Later, she asks her friends who she is, and they immediately know who she’s talking about. “That’s Penelope. She’s one of the best artists in this school, like a child prodigy or something.” // Andi begins to feel insecure about her project and doubt her abilities.
Meanwhile, at Grant High, Amber catches up with Jonah and Cyrus as they walk down the hallway before class. “So, decided what clubs to join, yet?” Amber asks Cyrus. // “Ugh, no!” Cyrus groans, “It’s such a hard choice! Whatever I choose will define me for the rest of my high school career. Do I want to be a theatre kid? A debater? A student leader? A jock?” // “A jock?” Jonah asks in confusion. // “Well, joining the chess club, I mean,” Cyrus clarifies. “Chess club is apparently brutal.” // Jonah looks to Amber who nods and says, “It’s true. The last tournament ended with an ambulance being called.” // Cyrus sighs, looking up longingly at all the posters advertising for clubs. “Will you two help me with my image? Help me find out where I belong? I can’t just be known as that kid who loses his shoe all the time anymore! This is high school, it’s the big leagues.” // “Are you sure, Cy-Guy? I think you’re great just the way you are,” Jonah flashes him a smile. Cyrus turns to Amber, who grins. // “I can totally be of assistance. After all, I owe you for the advice. It will be fun! Are you in, Jonah?” // Jonah, not wanting to disagree with his friends, decides to join her in helping Cyrus reinvent himself.
Next, flash to Buffy and Marty who are stretching during gym class and chatting. There are a few others around them, as well, and the teacher blows the whistle for them to start running. Buffy and Marty smile at each other before starting to hurry around the gym in laps like the others. They’re faster than the rest of the class by a long shot, and the gym teacher takes notice, but not of Buffy. He calls Marty over after class, and Buffy hears him telling Marty that there’s a spot open on varsity track that needs to be filled right away, and he was good enough to try out. This leads to Buffy getting jealous that she, who was keeping up with Marty easily, didn’t get called over by the gym teacher. “Why didn’t he ask me to join?” Buffy wonders as they walk out of the gym. “I dunno,” Marty shrugs. “But I’m sure he will! He’ll see how great of a runner you are soon enough.” // Buffy frowns, “But I was right beside you! And I’m just as fast, if not faster...” // This leads to tension between them, and they part ways without speaking another word to each other.
Finally, it’s the weekend, and Buffy is meeting with Cyrus at The Spoon. He comes in with a hesitant Jonah, and her jaw drops because he looks completely different. Instead of his usual collared shirt with patterns, he’s wearing a stylish, form fitting long sleeved shirt and ripped jeans with sneakers. His hair is ruffled and not meticulously gelled back like normal. But the strangest part is the leather jacket he’s wearing with “Badman” on the back. Amber, who is working, comes up to the table with a grin. “So, what do you all think of the new Cyrus?” // Buffy narrows her eyes, “New Cyrus? What happened to the old Cyrus?!” // “It’s high school, B, which means it’s time to reinvent myself. I’m a cool, chill, high school student now,” Cyrus explains, voice low and rumbly. // “It’s like the British accent all over again,” Buffy groans, then points at Amber. “This is all your fault.” // “It’s not my fault!” she protests. “He wanted to change his image, and I helped.” // “But he’s completely different!” // Amber pulls her away before whispering secretively to her, “I know, but this won’t last long, trust me. I did it to help him realize who is really is, and that he doesn’t need to change. He’ll figure it out; I know he will.” // Buffy stares at her in surprise, but doesn’t argue.
The episode ends back at the Mack household. Andi is down in the dumps in her room, and Bex tries to comfort her. “What’s going on?” // “Just something this girl Penelope said to me about my project being too ambitious. Apparently, she’s like the prodigy of SAVA, and I ran into her on the first day of class! It seems like she still hasn’t forgiven me.” // “I know it sounds crazy, but not everyone’s going to like you,” Bex admits. “But I know you, and I know that you’re always kind to everyone no matter what, and if she can’t see the good in you, than that’s her loss.” // Andi sighs, picking at the edge of a worn blanket on her bed. “I suppose.” // “Besides...” Bex trails off. “You can prove her wrong. Show her how brilliant your idea is and how you can pull it off.” // Andi’s face lights up. “You’re right, mom! I need to get to work.” // Bex chuckles, getting of the edge of her bed to let her work. As she leaves, she realizes Bowie was watching the whole time. “You make a good mom, you know,” Bowie says. // Bex looks back at Andi, who’s working already. “We’re so lucky to have her.” // Bowie puts an arm around her with a smile and a kiss to the cheek. “Yeah, we really are.”

Note
I love your fanfics! And I was wondering do you have any tips for original fanfic writing or just writing fics in general?
wow this actually ended up a lot longer than i thought it would, but here we go!
Original fanfics, hmmmmmm....
What I generally do is base things off of my own personal experience. Like all my iida fics are stuff that happened between me and my husband before we got married. Can’t help falling in love fic with bakugo, that was a previous relationship i had (which there is more to that story). Caught with todoroki..... thats how i got out of a ticket with a cop and how i learned that when i half check someone out and half start thinking about what i would do to that fine man in uniform (curse my uniform kink) that i glare/make a suspicious face. and when he confronted me about what i was doing, ready to write some kind of ticket for whatever i was doing wrong, i was so embarrassed that i blurted out that i found him very attractive and what exactly was on my mind and how i wanted to take that uniform off him.... that has happened with a emt too, i missed the green light looking at his bulging biceps after he rolled up his sleeves to write on a clip board.... he waved and i proceeded to squat in my seat and slam my face against the stirring wheel. escape artist cat was actually a dream i had, someone was taking off my cat’s pretty ribbon collars and putting ugly ones on her and i woke up sooooo mad, but i turned that dream into a romance story (reality kuiper was taking her collars off herself cause she was a brat) Stories about yourself, no matter how small you think it is actually has great potential to become a fic.
its also okay to borrow ideas from other forms of media. I do. example, Silk Maiden, based off of  an old batman episode from the early 2000s. its completely okay to do that. I’m not saying copy and paste the exact scenes. Just take the premises and then change it. some examples, like the movie Brave is the Scottish version of Aladdin. the princess who wants to be free and live her life beyond her princess duties needs to get married and she is not having it and wants to change the rules and runs away to find something new. premise is the same but how the story is told is different, one denies every prince and find her own prince in the streets of her kingdom and the other finds a cake that turns her mom into a bear that helps them understand each other and appreciate each other more. a weeb example is isekais. There are sooooo many isekais. japan, Korea, and china are all mass producing isekais right now. the premises are all the same, someone from one world now in another world primarily thanks to magical truck-kun who is probably could be branded as a mass serial killer at this point. I read a lot and i love korean isekai romance novels. I have read an isekai where the character was a villain who then was reincarnated with the memories of her villainous previous life who decided to live her new life by repenting by helping others but guess what? truck-kun came in the form of a airplane crash and she wakes up again in her first life’s preteen body before she became a villain. I’m reading an isekai isekai, author of an isekai met truck-kun and woke up inside the body of one of her characters in her isekai novel. all the same premise but told in a different way. i want to write an isekai for bnha! take a premise and write what you wanted to see happen between those characters if they were in that situation.
same for some fanfics, like you read a fanfic and you like the story that you read but you wished for something more. You like the idea but you wished that it went in this direction or you wanted different  types of interaction, its okay to write your own fic with the same premises. i’ve done that. (side note: but if you are gonna base off of it where a lot of the stuff is the same the give the proper credit where it deserves. no stealing peoples hard work) thats what fanfic was originally made for, fans wanted something more from their favorite works or wants something different (Thank you star trek fandom who started all this). I’ve read a lot of villain deku fics and i was craving a specific type of villain fic where “he really isnt a villain but is one but there is a reason why hes being evil cause it is for the greater good cause of deku’s savior complex and border line martyr complex he’s had since he was a child” with a side of “hero/villain romance”, “surprise quirk” and “badass” and a healthy scoop of “bakugo becomes a better person on his own without deku at UA through the power of friendship cause he has that potential without deku’s constant interference”. no one had what i wanted, so i started writing it myself.
also dont worry about being original. you can write a common idea that everyone sees a thousand times a day, like isekai, and people will love it. focus on how you are telling your story, dont put so much effort in being different. actually, common or typical tropes/ideas help make the story more relatable. two books can be equally as good but one person can like book A over book B because they felt more connected to the characters in it. they could relate to the emotions that were being conveyed.
now writing tips....hmmmmm well not everything works for everyone but this is what i do
I write notes down, lots of them. I have notebooks full of notes for my fics. some people can just sit there and start writing, but i like notes to keep me on track and remind me of stuff i wanted to add. Writing it down makes it easier not to forget, cause you are just lying to yourself if you think you’ll remember the idea for later. i got dialogue, scenes, plots, random quirk ideas, diagrams, (12) oc profiles, outlines, lists, and a event idea that i have that i want to do some day, all in my notebook. If you are going to write a long fic i strongly encourage that you do this. Outlines are your friend, they are bones of the story Ex:
Hero By Another Name original outline:
meet at a fire, firefighter impresses kiri who will later seek her out
kiri is becoming popular and wants to share the fame
they bond some how(?)
firefighter kiri, kirishima needs to wear a firefighter uniform
firefighter turns out to be a mega fan of red riot
photoshoot
kirishima finds out shes a nerd and is cool with it
firefighter is now popular
camping with baku or bakusquad?
miscommunication
kirishima does a big confession
I always start off with the key things i want for sure to happen. then i start adding to it. I write out the scene i definitely want to see or i can see clearly in my head. i just keep adding to it till its at least three pages long of just outline that has some images, random dialogue i want someone to say or little summaries of the scene i want.
its okay to jump around when you write. there are some parts that you know you need in a story to help it move a long but it can be boring. so i write one scene that i want to happen next and then i think of what needs to happen to get to that point. like how in hero another name where kirishima shows up unannounced to her apartment  and finds out she hoards all his hero merch while not wearing pants.  how do you make that not sound creepy and have kirishima be okay with it? by adding bits of how much of a fan she is through out the story! when they first have dinner together i threw in that red riot shirt to help break the ice and that he would then know that she was a big enough fan to buy his merch and that she admires him and that he is an inspiration for her. then later adding that interview where she talks about how she became his fan shows that she has years of dedication to him as a hero. so when he sees all the merch she has, it would make sense to him that she had all of that and not go “huh, will i be able to leave this place if i enter?”
if you dont know it, look it up. research. i wrote a fic before where the reader was pregnant the entire time, i started at two months to birth. I knew nothing about pregnancy on how it can affect your daily life and what it feels like beyond what health class and child development class taught me. So i looked it up. there is seriously so much that doctors look for during those many ultrasounds cause there are so many things that can affect your health and the baby’s and did you know there is pregnancy diabetes? you can become diabetic only during pregnancy, like after you give birth it can go away or stay, the human body is just tripy. but thanks to that research, people who have had children before left comments going “yessss, i remember feeling that” or “god, this was my sister in this scene, it sucks”. Its that relatability i mentioned before that really helps and it makes the story more believable.
(this is just my personal opinion mainly here feel free to ignore) when it comes to smut, write what you know and not what you fantasize about. im not calling anyone out but i can tell from how someone writes sex that they never had it and they are most likely younger than me. i’ve experimented a lot in my 25 years of life and i find myself going “oh sweetie, thats not how the vagina/anus works” when i read fics sometimes. there are guides online that are very informative and tell you what the feelings are like that you would expect. dont rely on porn too much on how sex works physically, maybe for dialogue. (i think of porn as just live action fanfics for the human mating ritual fandom). its okay to use other smuts as reference tools as well, especially if you dont know anything of the bdsm lifestyle.
beta readers help a lot. if you are unsure of ideas that you have, talk it out with a friend. I sometimes do this for myself or help others with their fics. its actually a lot of fun with a group of people where you just keep shooting off ideas together about stuff and just go all out fangirlling to the point you are rolling on the ground smiling. this can help with writers block or motivate you to keep writing. also having another pair of eyes to look at your fics, not just for corrections but for input on the story can help make it better. someone can see things from a different angle and point stuff out to you, plot holes or things that you can add.
im not sure what else to say other than stuff like format and spacing. sometimes i see people who write too long of paragraphs or there is no clear separation between them. thats killer on the eyes and makes me not want to read at all cause all i see is this wall of text thats just overwhelming. i want to call who ever formatted textbooks cause thats how they do it and it makes it so hard to concentrate on reading and absorbing the info. if i see fics with no clear breaks or long running paragraphs, i usually give up half way cause i just cant do it. its hard to keep track where you are reading and you start trying to focus on it too much that the story is just lost on me. it is hard on people like me who have dyslexia (who ever called it that is just cruel to people who have it cause you can never spell it without spell check and pronouncing it is just ugggh)
i hope this helps

15th anniversary of our madness!
Yes, you read that right. Today, April 13th 2021, marks the 15th anniversary of when I was crazy enough to bring out the idea of a crazy roundrobin crossover on the Moony Witcher Forum.
When on that day, April 13th 2006, I made a post with the general idea for Mai Dire Fine I never thought I would be starting a saga that would be still ongoing 15 years later.
But here we are, with me and Aelit still working on its latest sequel of sorts, The World without Authors. Compared to back then, our writing skills improved a lot (Mai Dire Fine was not a good story) and, while there’s always more we can still learn, we are proud of our improvement.
So, where are we? We published recently the 10th chapter of The World without Authors, which is currently around 69.000 words – we’re already closing in towards Blank Sprite‘s length (77.000) and that’s just part of the first arc, Scattered Shards. Adding in the previous stories, we’re past 320.000 already.
Even with The World without Authors‘s “all-stars” cast, we still only have a total of five characters from Mai Dire Fine, only three of which (Sergio, Nikki and Kathleen) were part of the main cast as the other two (Faith and Virgilia) were introduced towards the end… well, technically there’s a sixth character, the mysterious “Professor”, but his identity is spoilers as of now. I believe there might be enough hints between The World without Authors and my older behind the scenes post for you to be able to guess his identity already, but the reveal is meant to be a nasty surprise that will set up the second and third arcs, Venezia Immortale and The Dove and the Crow. Yes, we’re planning (well… sort of planning) that far!
But enough of that, let’s head to the celebration specials!
Unfortunately, the Q&A session was a complete failure. We didn’t receive any question by the deadline, but the mailbox is still open! Feel free to ask us anything, we’ll make a Q&A post as soon as the question come in, and we’ll keep it updated every time new questions arrive.
We still have a few more goodies, though. The first is a bit of an experiment on my part, I took one of my early PPC missions, A Very Awkward Exorcism, alongside a couple scenes from the interlude set chronologically just before it, Planes, Guns, Clones and other usual PPC Stuff, and gave them a complete makeover into a comic. Yes, I made what I believe might be the first full PPC mission in comic form! You can download it in PDF format (Trigger warning for rape, contains some partial nudity) here. I hope you’ll enjoy it!
Another thing I made is a special anniversary illustration, in which our characters, and a few we borrowed, from all over our works enjoy some partying. With all the things happening due to the Unravel they deserve some off time, don’t  you think?
Tumblr media
Let’s start with the back row, left to right.
First one is Ai Minase, from Koikatu. She has the distinction of being the “adopted canon character” of The World Without Authors – while we have other canons working with Strike Dove, she’s the only one who became part of the main cast on a deep level. While Hayate Yagami, her crew, the Razgriz and Long Caster also work with my main cast, they’re more of external allies. Her dress looks a bit like a tablecloth, but that’s a canon-ish outfit of hers: while she never wears it in her route, it is in her character card in the slot that gets used during dates in normal gameplay.
Next to her we have Keiko Caterina Turbo, Sergio and Nikki’s daughter with her own PPC spinoff, Wings of Canon: Second Strike. She is also the only survivor of the Second Strike cast, having lost Shiro and Saki in the Unravel, and as such the role of representative of her series is all on her. She also doesn’t like skirts, at all, why do you ask?
Then we have Hajime Irene Turbo, Keiko’s half sister/alternate incarnation from the timeline in which Sergio got together with Ami instead. She’s an original The World without Authors character, but still related to characters from my previous works. Fun fact: Keiko and Hajome’s birthday, April 13, in indeed based on the day and month we began Mai Dire Fine. If we consider HQ Standard Time (the PPC’s timeline) to coincide with the real world, they turned two years old today.
Next is Hajime’s mother, Ami Tanegashima. Mentioned first in I don’t like luxury cars to pave her way for her posthumous role in Blank Sprite, we can consider her the representative of my Blank Sprite original characters here. She’s now stuck with the absurdity of not only having a daughter she never thought she could have, but also of said daughter being currently only four years younger than her. Considering Ami’s small frame, there will likely be plenty of times in which she’s mistaken for Hajime’s younger sister… also, now that she’s 20 years old and of drinking age in Japan, she discovered she actually likes alcohol. And can deal with it surprisingly well despite her light build (as opposed to Sergio and Nikki who both can’t hold their liquor)… yes, she had more than a few glasses here. Luckily, she doesn’t drink very often.
Toasting with her is Aya Kibokami, the “fragment” that split off Madoka Kaname at the end of Blank Sprite. As such, she’s here as a representative of canon characters of Blank Sprite. Due to a certain scene of Madoka Magica, in which Madoka expresses a desire to go out drinking with her mother (who really enjoys drinking) once old enough, there is fanon of her eventually developing the same taste for liquor. While we’ll likely never know if the canon Madoka would, Aya is the other heavy drinker of my cast and here is depicted finally having a toast (or two… or a few…) with Ami to celebrate the success of their “Save Sergio and Homura from their spirals of self-destruction by making them defeat Vera and save Madoka together” master plan.
And, of course, fussing over Aya’s excessive drinking we have Kuroko Tenshimi, AKA the “split fragment” of Homura Akemi retaining the memories of the Blank Sprite Incident. While her and Aya haven’t featured yet, they did make it to the Unraveled World. However, I don’t plan on making them part of the main cast yet (in fact, I’m planning to reduce the amount of characters we’re following as the cast is getting too big), and I’m actually considering having them star in their own The World without Authors spinoff, but nothing set in stone yet. Oh, and fun fact about them, they did already have a bit of starring of their own as they were the hosts of the Third PPC HQ Hunger Games. How Nutmeg TV managed to get hold of them for that will forever remain a mistery.
Next, a character very few of you are likely to be familiar with. Nina De Nobili, the title character of the Nina, the child of the Sixth Moon book series. Acting as a representative of the Mai Dire Fine canon characters here, she’s been chosen since, as I said in the past, we started Mai Dire Fine on her author’s forum, and even received encouragement from her to keep writing at one point… despite the fact we were basically butchering her work. However, everyone has to begin somewhere, and Moony Witcher (real name Roberta Rizzo) knew that, so I’m glad she didn’t shoot down our hopes – I might not be here now with a 300.000+ words saga under my belt otherwise. Nina is not planned to reappear in the Unraveled Worlds, as she’s from a series intended for children that wouldn’t mesh well with our current plots.
The little guy sitting over the counter doing karaoke is Conan Edogawa from Detective Conan (anyone insisting on calling the series Case Closed can leave now). He’s again a canon character featured in Mai Dire Fine, but there are plans to involve him and some other characters of his series in the third arc. Also, as you can guess by Nina’s reaction, he’s a terrible, terrible singer.
Leaning on the couch we have Hiro Shirogane, our Gundam pilot. He’s a fully original character created for The World without Authors whose original concept was made by Aelit, although I was the one developing his backstory and relationship with Miksa. I admit that for a while we weren’t too sure about what to do with him, but I hope his current subplot will be enjoyable.
And now, the front row. Leftmost is Hanami, Nikki’s alternate from Kathleen’s alternate timeline (and as such a The World without Authors original). She’s been adopted by the Kinomotos (as she’s also an alternate of Sakura) and is now living with them. Something that debuted in this illustration are the glasses: those are her timeline’s Sergio, and she doesn’t actually have a need for eyesight correction. She had the lenses replaced with fake ones, and wears them due to them being one of the few things she has left of him, though they’re also a good way to differentiate herself from her “sisters”.
Then we have Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura herself. If we go by name only, her first appearance in my works would be Mai Dire Fine, but that particular Sakura ended up becoming Nikki so it is safe to assume her first appearance was actually in the first mission of Wings of Canon, my main PPC spinoff, titled Don’t Forget The Canon, and she has been confirmed alive in the Unraveled World, in which she is now legally Nikki and Hanami’s younger sister. As in the comic I posted above, her hair is actually lighter than Nikki or Hanami’s as most CCS media have her with a light shade, but Nikki and Hanami both derive from the 1998 anime that had a darker brown as Sakura’s hair color.
Next to Sakura is Syaoran Li from the same series, who instead did appear as himself in Mai Dire Fine. He was badly OOC though, and if the The World without Authors incarnation of him does remember Sergio, things might a bit tense between them at first… though, hopefully, just until he gets explained that no, the “Sakura” Sergio was in love with was actualy Nikki and there’s no need to be jealous.
Then we get to Kathleen Leone. She is not the Mai Dire Fine incarnation of the character, but an alternate made for The World without Authors. Despite that, she started considering the main timeline Sergio as her own brother even before he had to kill her timeline’s, due to the latter’s descent into madness. We haven’t been able to give her much space until now, due to the action being mostly in the air, but that will change soon. I won’t spoiler anything, but Chapter 11 will be a big turning point in the story.
Of course, holding arms with her is Faith Leone, Everything I said about Kathleen applies about her too, as they’ve arrived in the Unraveled World together. We haven’t shown much on our plans to develop her so far, but trust us: we’re going to both fill in more of her bakcstory, and give her chances to shine soon.
Cutting the cake together we have Sergio Turbo and Nikki Cherryflower, both of which made their first appearances in Mai Dire Fine and appeared in all sequel works. For as much grief the Unraveled World is bringing them, it is arguable they’ve gained more than they have lost, as they’ve both got their families back thanks to it. Fun fact: their outfits are loosely based on the ones they wore during Chapter 7 of Blank Sprite.
Last but not least, Corolla. Introduced in Don’t Forget The Canon, she’s my most successful character. Defined by Aelit “Kathleen, but written well” way before we started working on The World without Authors, it isn’t a suprise they synergize so well together… much to Sergio and Nikki’s dismay. Here, is she more excited for the cake, or because they are cutting it together like it was a wedding cake? Probably both.
And that’s it, 15 years of writing, condensed in one image. We hope you’ll keep following us in the future!

Underfell: File Name not Edgy Enough #25
WARNING: I WANT NO RESPONSIBILITY OVER SPOILING THINGS FOR OTHERS. THAT BEING SAID, THIS IS HOW FILE NAME NOT FOUND WOULD FUNCTION IN THE AU OF UNDERFELL. BEFORE YOU READ THIS, UNLIKE THE NICE TIME OF UNDERTALE, THIS WORLD IS KILL OR BE KILLED. THIS STORY WILL BE GRAPHIC, GORY, USE SWEARS LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS, AND DEAL WITH SENSITIVE SUBJECT MATTERS. FOR EXAMPLE, THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE READ THE FILE NAME RELOCATED SPOOF WILL KNOW HOW I PICTURE THIS VERSION OF LYNSIE COMING TO THE UNDERGROUND. IT IS NOT AN ACCIDENT. IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF SOMETHING DUMB. IT IS BECAUSE SHE CHOOSES TO END HER LIFE. SO TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. I MADE IT BECAUSE I NEEDED TO LET SOME OF THIS EDGINESS OUT OF MYSELF. WHICH I GUESS MAKES UNDERFELL LYNSIE EVEN MORE TRUE TO WHO I REALLY AM. ANYWAY, ENJOY. ^_^
------------------------------------------------
Hell hath no fury like this fish woman. For Undyne's rage casts a near-visible aura of hate as she stormed her way into Hotland. Clad in her special armor, keeping her form from dehydrating, she intimidates those that witness her barreling towards the Lab. With a mighty kick, she almost hurls the doors from their hinges before continuing inside. Knowing all too well where her intended target is. Cameras follow her movements but do little to warn their owner in time. Alphys receives the signal just as the echos of hurried stomps reaches her ears. By the time the doors are thrown open, Alphys has made the scene a little more authentic and hides away her more sketchy items. As one can imagine, the Captain of the Royal Guard is less than pleased to see a human being given treatment instead of having its soul collected.
"U-Undyne...W-W-What a surprise."
"Cut the crap, Alphys. How long have you known about it being in the Underground?! Why wasn't I informed?! And why, in Asgore's name, are you keeping that thing alive?!"
The disgruntled captain points at the unconscious human strapped to a bloody slab with several machines around her. Thick bandages cover the wounds given on-screen, the eerie beeps of the machines that are annoyingly loud in the silence, sticky liquid crimson softly dribbles from the slab edges to a small pool draining on the floor as tubes and wires are placed on vital areas. The scene looks like a medical mess. For what good it does to try, Alphys puts on a straight face and gets professionally cold to defend her work.
"Your Captain of the Guard status does not mean I report to you or have to inform you of anything."
The rage of Undyne only increases.
"What did you say?!"
Alphys adjusts her glasses, snidely flipping Undyne off with her middle finger.
"I am the Royal Scientist. I work under and report directly to the King himself. My rank supersedes yours. And as such, unless it is a matter that requires your assistance, I will inform only those that are needed to be informed. Understood?"
Undyne snarls beneath her helmet. This type of thing wasn't uncommon. She knows that Alphys separates herself when it comes to her work. Undyne does it too but tries not to be so obnoxious. It's moments like this that make her crush a little less on this lizard girl.
"But to answer your question...This human has been living in the Ruins for quite some time. Sans and Papyrus have been monitoring her for me."
The skeletons? Those sneaky bastards! She bet Papyrus was thinking he'd use this to one-up her.
"Why use them and not me?"
"Really? You can't stand the cold and they live there. It's a no brainer."
Good point.
"Okay...But why monitor? The law clearly states that the soul of any human is to be collected. No exceptions!"
Undyne summons a spear and readies to spike the human through the face. That is till Alphys moves over to the human and interacts with one of the machines, making her soul slowly emerge...it's white. This sight has the captain of the guard drop her weapon and remove her helm to ensure her eye was not playing a trick on her. Without her helm, the true visage of the Captain of the Guard is shown. Undyne is a piscine anthropomorphic monster. She has blue scales and a long red hair she keeps in a wild ponytail. Red and blue fins on the sides of her head act like ears, she has no nose to speak of. Her teeth are sharp yellow daggers like a barracuda or shark. She has red eye shadow and has an eye-patch on her left eye. Her good eye has a black vertical pupil and a yellow sclera.
"It's...White? What the hell? It was light blue on TV. I saw it!"
"We all did. And it was purple when I first examined her. This is why I've had her under severance and not executed. This human...It's not like the humans we've encountered or the ones in our texts. She seems to be able to change traits or possesses multiple traits."
"How is that possible? Is that even a thing? Is that a thing humans can do now?"
"I haven't collected enough data to determine that. My current theory is that she may be a random mutation, an evolutionary anomaly of sorts. Though, from the information I have gotten, it seems the humans of now have indeed fully lost their usage of magic."
"I thought those past ones seemed off."
"Yes. The previous humans were lacking in their levels of magic but they still possessed it. This one, however, according to my scans had no magic in her soul prior to coming to the Underground."
Scientist say what?
"Wait...What's that supposed to mean?"
Alphys pulls out what looks to be her cell phone and moves it over the soul, scanning till it beeps. She then shows the results to the Captain.
"There's at least 20% to 30% magic now resonating in her soul. Enough to trigger magic prepubescence."
Undyne snickers at the thought of such a thing and it nearly breaks Alphys's composure.
"You can't be serious."
"I am. I had to stabilize the flux with those patches we give out to teens. It's why she's about 30%."
"Dare I ask...How a non-magic soul suddenly has magic?"
"Not sure. Perhaps it's the nature of such a weak soul to pull magic when it can, however, it can. Be it from the surroundings, food, or contact with other beings of magic. Who's to say? Or her soul could be like a parasite and leeching magic for as of yet unknown reasons. I'm just throwing ideas at this point."
"So...What you're saying is the human is dangerous."
"All humans are dangerous, Undyne. But this one? *scoff* Since being down here her LV hasn't budged from its base level."
The Captain is intrigued.
"Has it not been in a fight?"
"Quite the opposite. There's plenty of telltale signs, not to mention video surveillance, that indicates she's been attacked."
"So the wimp flees? Pathetic."
"Sometimes. Most of the time they endure the fight and find a way to end it without fighting back."
A gruff laugh leaves the fish woman.
"Pacifism? Down here? Now that's a joke."
Alphys checks on a liquid-filled bag that's emptying into the human's veins.
"As dumb as it may be, her strategy is a good thing..."
She increases the dripping.
"By not attacking, she isn't killing anyone. And by not killing anyone, she isn't gaining LV. And you know what that means."
Undyne grins like a hungry barracuda.
"It makes it all the easier to collect the last soul."
Alphys nods and removes her glasses to clean them.
"Still...With the number of unknown variables, I'd have to insist on further study of this soul and not just yet bringing it to the King, even if she dies."
"How come?"
"Like I said, too many unknowns. If Asgore wishes to fuse with the seven souls it would be best to make sure this one doesn't overpower or corrupt his own."
"Hmmm...I guess that's fair. We don't need to waste the human souls and lose the King if we can help it."
"My thoughts exactly."
Alphys puts her glasses back on and steps away from the human.
"Come, Undyne. We must leave now."
Confusion comes to the Captain.
"What? Why? You're really going to leave her unattended?"
Alphys grows colder.
"Do not be so stupid."
Undyne had to bite her tongue hard.
"I never said she'd be alone."
With a simple button press on her phone, the sound of speeding rubber screeches towards them, the door opening seconds later.
"IS IT TIME? SHE'S IN STABLE CONDITION?"
Mettaton skids to a stop with excitement.
"She's stable. And under heavy sedation. You may proceed with the prep work."
Digitized giggling pours from the automaton.
"EXCELLENT. LADIES, IF YOU'LL EXCUSE ME..."
Undyne is ushered out by Alphys before she can question things.
"Um..."
"Don't think about it too much."
"But..."
"As they say...The show must go on. I suggest you stick around and watch what unfolds."
Undyne groans to herself.
"I'll make that spicy ramen that you like."
"...Extra chili flakes?"
"Yep."
"Hot damn!"
With the women gone, Mettaton turns his attention to the human on the slab.
"OH DARLING..."
A compartment opens on his side and he extracts what looks like a kit of some kind.
"WE HAVE SO MUCH WORK TO DO."
[AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER-BEHIND THE LAB]
The wall of the building opens up, a split door allows the heat of Hotland in while the unconscious human carried by the killer robot comes out.
"FINALLY...THE SHOW CAN COMMENCE ONCE AGAIN."
While two of his arms set the human down his other two open a bottle of smelling salts and wave it under her nose, slowly rousing her back to consciousness.
"WAKIE WAKIE, DARLING."
She groans in delirium and sits up. Medical grade sedatives really pack a punch.
"FOCUS DEAR. HOW MANY FINGERS AM I HOLDING UP?"
Mettaton holds up his four arms and each is displaying two fingers. Her head wobbles with dizziness and she rubs the sleep from her eyes.
"Mettaton? *yawn* Why is it so hot?"
Why did she have to be so cute when so messed up?
"I'LL ANSWER YOU IF YOU ANSWER ME."
She shakes her head clear and stares at him for a bit.
"Eight."
He sighs with relief and helps her up before patting her head.
"GOOD. YOU'RE PERFECTLY FINE."
"Not entirely sure that's what I'd call it after the game you made me do. But whatever. Least I ain't dead."
"THERE WE GO. ALWAYS LOOKING ON THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THINGS."
Her senses coming back, she looks at her form and begins growling at the mechanical television star.
"IS SOMETHING THE MATTER?"
"I'm going to ask this as calmly as I can and I want you to be honest...Did you dress me in my sleep?!"
In Mettaton's defense, it's not like he could leave her in her bloody outfit or the medical gown. And to his credit, he made it for her to be both fashionable as well as comfortable in Hotland's arid heat. A black zip back cutout crisscross cami top with MTT emblazoned in red across the chest, waist-high black garter shorts with tiny Mettaton studs along the straps, black ripped footless tights end in knee-high black riding boots that have red MTT zippers, and to add to her annoyance her nails were also painted red. The only normal thing about her was he kept her hair tied in a ponytail but moved it higher up to be more lively than her usual dead weight droop.
"TO BE FAIR, DARLING, YOU WERE A BLOODY MESS AFTER THE SHOW. IT WOULD BE TASTELESS TO HAVE MY CO-STAR CONTINUE IN ANYTHING LESS THAN THE BEST."
She gets flustered.
"That's not the point! You could've waited till I was awake and I would've dressed myself! Instead, you did so while I was vulnerable."
She shudders and looks away from him.
"To think...I started to like you."
An exclamation mark flashes on his screen.
"But it seems you're just as bad as the scum on the surface."
He panics and waves his hands in defense.
"W-WAIT A SECOND, DEAR, IT'S NOT LIKE THAT!"
"Then...Aside from seeing my frail body, do you deny the obvious usage of me as brand advertisement?"
The look she gives him is cold and hurt, making him flinch.
"UM...WELL...I..."
She turns around with her hands on her hips and smirks.
"We're not on camera right now, are we?"
His screen flashes in confusion.
"...NO? NO CAMERAS ARE ACTIVE AT THIS MOMENT. WHY?"
"Heh...Because you're being you right now. The same guy I got to know over the phone. TV you is more cold and sticks to the script, like a soulless machine. This you, the ghost in the shell, this guy I like and willing to work with."
He's caught off guard by that remark.
"UM...WHAT EXACTLY DID YOU MEAN BY THAT?"
"Which part?"
"GHOST IN THE SHELL."
"Oh, that? It's the name of a manga/anime series. The setting is a future where technology is so advanced that it becomes an existential crisis if souls can transfer over to pure machine bodies and if artificial intelligence can gain humanity through cyber-evolution. It's really deep."
"OH."
"It also is a play on the fact you're literally a ghost in a robot shell."
He flinches.
"W-WHAT? I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE..."
"Dude, don't lie. We're not on camera and Alphys already confirmed my suspicions."
He blanks for a moment sighing.
"WELL...BRAVO, DARLING. YOU'VE SOLVED MY GREATEST SECRET."
She shrugs.
"It's no big deal. And don't worry about anyone else knowing, I ain't a snitch."
"SUCH A CLEVER GIRL. I KNEW YOU'D BE PERFECT FOR THIS."
Her arms fold.
"While I was messing with you before, I am pissed about this."
"WHICH PART?"
"This! This isn't my style. It feels weird and shows way too much skin for my liking."
At this rate, he was lucky she couldn't see her reflection or she'd be pissed about how he did her makeup. Red eye-shadow to create a smoky effect on her eyelids. Mascara to make her long lashes even longer. A bold black swoop of liquid eyeliner all the way to the outer corners of her eyes and swept a little up at the end. And the pièce de résistance is the luscious red lipstick to make it all pop.
"BUT, DARLING, YOUR OLD CLOTHES WERE RUINED. BESIDES, WITH HOW THICK THAT FABRIC WAS, YOU'D DIHYDRATE IN MOMENTS OUT HERE. AND NO ONE WANTS A SWEATY DRIED OUT SACK ON SCREEN."
She leers.
"NOT SAYING YOU ARE ONE. MAKING THAT CLEAR HERE."
She sighs.
"I see your point. I ain't happy about it, but I see the reason behind it."
"GOOD."
She checks herself and gets upset.
"My items? Where are my items?!"
"I TOLD YOU, YOUR CLOTHES WERE A MESS AND I CHANGED YOU INTO THIS."
She grabs him.
"Metta, my buddy, I need my gear. My stats are crap without my items. Please tell me you didn't trash them...Please?!"
To understand her panic he checks her.
[Lynsie - LV:1 - HP: 40 ATK: 20 DEF: 11 - Too nice for her own good.]
Her HP increased? How? Her LV hasn't increased. Did she earn EXP in the game and recovery? Wait...The other stats are dangerously weak. Hmmm...This gives him a wicked idea. If his screen could grin it would be wide and twisted.
"OH HEAVENS NO, DARLING. YOUR POSSESSIONS ARE SAFE."
Her eyes light up.
"Sweet! Can I please have them?"
He grabs her waist and scoots her back from him a bit.
"UNFORTUNATELY, I DO NOT HAVE THEM ON ME."
"But...W-Where are they then?"
All four hands point out into the distance.
"YOU CAN HAVE YOUR ITEMS BACK...ONCE YOU MAKE TO THE NEXT FILM SET."
Her jaw drops.
"Dude! Are you freaking serious? Do we see the same stats? Because I'm fairly sure I can get one-shot killed out here."
"RELAX, DARLING..."
"Relax?! Says the guy that literally can't be hurt!"
He waves dismissively.
"AND THEY CALL ME DRAMATIC. LOOK, I CAN'T JUST GIVE YOU THEM BACK NOR CAN I TAKE YOU TO THE NEXT SET. YOU SHOULD KNOW THE REASON WHY."
She glares before pouting in defeat.
"The law requires you to still attempt to 'capture' me."
His screen flashes.
"BINGO! AND TO PROVE THAT I AM FOLLOWING THE LAW WHILE STILL WORKING WITH YOU, YOU WILL BE TELEVISED AS YOU MAKE YOUR WAY THROUGH MY SHOW GAUNTLET."
She looks at him funny.
"TO BE HONEST IT'S JUST NORMAL ENVIRONMENT AND PIPEWORK FOR THE CORE. BUT I DID ADD OBSTACLES AND PUZZLES, SO TECHNICALLY IT COUNTS."
Her funny look grows.
"And you film back there in all that?"
"IT MAKES MORE SENSE WHEN YOU SEE IT."
"I guess."
All four hands slap together in a loud clap.
"GREAT! NOW THAT THAT IS ALL SAID AND DONE, HERE'S THE DEAL. ONCE YOU TURN THAT CORNER AND BEGIN THE TREK, YOU'LL BE BACK ON TV."
"Okay."
"TRY NOT TO BREAK THE FOURTH WALL, WE DON'T NEED VIEWERS KNOWING YOU'VE BEEN HERE LONGER THAN ADVERTISED AND WITH THE HELP OF OTHERS."
"True, very true."
"AND SINCE YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR PHONE..."
"Can I get that back too? I swear I won't make calls."
"OR TEXT?"
"Did you even see my phone? It can't text or take pictures."
"HMMM...I'LL THINK ABOUT IT."
"Please and thank you."
"LIKE I WAS SAYING SINCE YOU DON'T HAVE IT AND MAY NEED HELP UNDERSTANDING A FEW OF THE MORE TRICKIER PUZZLES..."
On hand retreats into his body and pops out with a small clip-like earring that, you guessed it, looks like him.
"ATTACH THIS TO YOUR EAR AND YOU'LL BE ABLE TO HEAR MY MELODIOUS VOICE WHEN I NOTICE YOU'RE NOT PROGRESSING."
"Not that I'm against it, but isn't this cheating?"
He chuckles while bringing her close and clipping it to her right ear.
"DON'T THINK OF IT LIKE THAT. IT'S LIKE YOU SAID, YOU'RE WILLING TO WORK WITH ME AND WE BOTH DON'T WANT YOU DEAD. YOU'LL STILL BE GOING AT THIS ON YOUR OWN, BUT WITH A LITTLE LIFELINE THAT GIVES YOU CLUES AND NOT FULL ANSWERS. NOW DOES THAT SOUND MORE OKAY?"
"FANTASTIC!"
He spins around and shoves her to the ground before retracting his wheel to begin hovering.
"WELL, DARLING, THE NEXT WE MEET I HOPE IT TO BE SOON AND WHILE YOU STILL BREATHE."
"Um...Me too."
He takes off like a rocket to the next stage, kicking up dust and smoke in his wake.
"FAIR THEE WELL...!"
The cloud takes a bit to settle and the human finds herself alone. The path ahead is unknown but the only way to go. Somehow being behind the building she thinks she was held within and with no door to speak of insight. She silently prayed that her trust in the robot that abducted her was well placed...even though that thought made her question her ability to pick people to trust. Either way, her journey through game show hell begins now as she walks the lonely road that is way too narrow and high up for her liking.
[Snowdin: Skeleton House in present time]
Nothing. Nothing but re-run filler has been on the TV for hours. And all they could do was wait. Wait for any change on that damn picture box. Papyrus was doing his best to keep a worried Toriel and tense Grillby from burning the house down. Sans on the other hand was lost in his mind, retracing the history of his time in the LAB and its many rooms. Where were they hiding the human? What new rooms were added since he left? Could Alphys still be using the old underground facility?
*obnoxious fanfare*
The television cuts from its old showing to Mettaton live out in Hotland, on real clues can be seen as he hovers about the volcanic rock.
"SORRY FOR THE DELAY MY DEADLY GUYS AND DOLLS. SEEMS I WAS A BIT TOO ROUGH DURING OUR LAST GAME AND MY CO-STAR NEEDED EXTRA TIME TO RECOVER. GUESS I DON'T KNOW MY OWN STRENGTH."
His nonchalant attitude and words were far from comforting to the four.
"BUT FEAR NOT, AS SHE HAS MADE A FULL RECOVERY!"
A weight is lifted from the room.
"IN FACT, SHE'S ON THE START OF THE NEXT PHASE OF OUR SHOW. A DANGEROUS GAUNTLET OF OBSITCLES, DAUNTING PUZZLES, AND THE RANDOM VAGABOND THAT MAY OR MAY NOT JUST HAPPEN TO BE WANDERING AROUND."
The video feed shifts to the human on a conveyor belt. Merely scrolling along in a tacky outfit and makeup trying not to look down.
"The fuck is she wearing?!"
Grillby fumes. Toriel is equally unhappy about her daughter's new look. Sans rolls his eyes, finding it somewhat funny that Grillby is displeased by this when did way worse before.
"HER GOAL, REACH THE END TO BEGIN OUR NEXT SHOW SEGMENT. SHE WILL REPEAT THIS TWO MORE TIMES BEFORE ENDING WITH OUR FOURTH AND FINAL ENCOUNTER."
That doesn't sound good. The feed zooms in on her.
"WILL SHE SURVIVE AND EARN HER LIFE TO LIVE FOR ANOTHER DAY? OR WILL THIS BE THE DAY THE LAST SOUL IS COLLECTED? WE SHALL FIND OUT SOON ENOUGH. IN THE MEANTIME, I NEED TO AQUIRE A FEW ODDS AND ENDS, SO I LEAVE YOU TO OUR DARLING'S DARING DO. ENJOY."
The camera switches to a different angle and continues to follow her. Before the words can even leave Papyrus's mouth Sans is already shaking his head.
"i still don't know where that is."
"ARE YOU SURE?"
"trust me, i don't recognize where she's at."
"Don't you have a post in Hotland?"
Grillby points out much to Papyrus's puzzlement.
"YOU HAVE A POST IN HOTLAND?"
Sans sighs.
"it's like i told ya, i do more than ya think i do. i have posts at the start of snowdin forest, waterfall's beginning, level two of hotland, and i am the one that waits in the judgment hall."
Papyrus is even more confused but Toriel starts to broil.
"You...You were the one all along, were you not?"
Sans balls his fists, bracing for this.
"You were the one that killed the humans that left the Ruins."
No Tori...not all...just one...over and over again.
"no. i haven't killed anyone."
That gave her some relief. But more questions.
"Then if not you, who does harm them?"
"asgore does."
And that killed it. Her eyes sink with a flame, one of hate and despair. It's painfully obvious. She's going to snap.
"ya should know he doesn't take pleasure in doin' it."
Her expression falters.
"it's a lot of weight on that old goat's shoulders. what with bein' a king and everyone expectin' him to solve all our problems, like breakin' the barrier. it's one thing to kill someone that's wronged ya. it's much harder to look an innocent in the eyes and end them."
She frowns, seeing some truth in his words.
"ya may hate his guts, but he's harborin' the biggest burden. bein' the one to harvest the souls."
"But..."
Does she still wish to fight?
"But the law states humans are to be killed on sight, right? You can not tell me the Guard has not spilled blood in all this time!"
"ACTUALLY..."
Papyrus chimes in.
"WHILE IT'S TRUE, THAT IS THE BLUNTEST FORM OF THE LAW, IT'S NOT THE EXACT WORDING. *AHEM* IF A LIVING HUMAN IS FOUND IN THE UNDERGROUND THAN THEY ARE TO BE ENGAGED AND CAPTURED. EXTREME CAUTION AND VIOLENCE IS TO BE USED IN THE APRENTION OF HUMAN SOULS. NOWHERE IS IT SAID WE ARE TO KILL ON SIGHT. BUT THE CURRENT CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD HAS INTERPRETED THIS LAW IN HER OWN WAY AND INFORCES IT AS SUCH...DEATH TO ALL HUMANS. NO EXCEPTIONS. OVERTIME, THAT'S HOW THE LAW EVOLVED TO BE KNOWN TO THE PUBLIC."
"Why?"
"captain undyne lost her family in the war. that kind of wound doesn't heal easily. it didn't help much that the hammer of punishment took her in as his own."
That name struck a chord.
"Gerson? I suppose that does make sense. He was ruthless in his prime. And he left our court when we choose to surrender. Said we were showing weakness by giving in. So many were already lost...We wanted to end the slaughter before the dust count became unrecognizable."
"seems that spite got passed on in undyne."
"OUR CAPTAIN GOES BY ANOTHER...THE SPEAR OF PUNISHMENT."
Her worry overcomes any animosity she held.
"I pray my child never encounters your Captain."
One can only hope.
"Shit..."
Grillby gets their attention.
"She's been spotted."
Eyes return to the television and the footage shown. The human had passed the large system of conveyor belts going forward and backward. Exhaust ports of vermilion flame burst from nearby pipes in the background, the wooshing sound of steam and cogs adding to the scenery. Reaching the end of the conveyor belts, the human comes into view of several small islands surrounded by boiling lava. Most of these islands hold steam vents. However, the human is unaware of this due to being blocked by a Tsunderplane.
[HOTLAND: LEVEL ONE]
Damn this heat. Damn this plan of yours, Mettaton. And damn this odd-looking monster that won't get out of my way. It appears to resemble a regular real-world modern airplane, an Airbus A340-300 to be exact, wearing a black mob cap with thin red ribbons on it, a faint blush tints its nosecone.
"Um...Do you mind?"
I move slightly to the side, trying to give it room while avoiding the edge. But it just moves the same as I do, almost like a mock mimic. Maybe it's just a fluke. I try it again. And again it does it.
"You're not gonna let me by, are you?"
My soul feels gripped and without skipping a beat, my blue soul comes out, a battle begins.
[Tsunderplane gets in the way! Not on purpose or anything.]
Wait...Don't tell me that name means what I think it does. What are my options?

[TSUNDERPLANE – HP: 80 ATK: 25 DEF: 26 – Seems mean, but does it secretly like you?]
"The fuck...?"
This plane catches an attitude.
"No way! Why would I like YOU?!"
Especially since we've only just met. Wait...
"You can talk?!"
It moves it's wings up, summing its attack. Several smaller planes fly horizontally straight from either side above me, dropping bombs that look like miniature nukes. Once a bomb hits the ground, a vertical line of toxic smoke appears and blocks my sight momentarily. All in all, this is not easy to avoid because of the lack of space and I end up taking a really nasty hit.
[HP ████████████████ 15/40]
I'm too afraid to check my wound. My ears are ringing and I feel damp somewhere on my side. I won't stand another hit like that. Damn it! I need my defense items!
*bang*
My head is smacked hard by metal.
[Tsunderplane "accidentally" bumps you with its wing.]
It pushed me back. It's keeping distance. Why it's not like it needs the room, damn thing can fly. I wonder...What'll happen if I get close? But first I need to heal.
[ITEM selected.]
I need to remember to thank Flowey when I see him again. If it wasn't for his prodding I'd have nothing in my inventory.

Ah, much better. Now I just need to avoid getting hit again. My turn ends.
"Hmph! Id... Idiot! Don't get in my way!"
You blocked me, asshat.
She uses a different attack but one that's somewhat easier to deal with. Large planes fly directly at me, leaving a horizontal-moving toxic trail of smoke balls. I am grateful this was it's second go. I dodge this one better, no damage taken.
[Tsunderplane shakes its nose dismissively at you.]
"_... Human..."
Now it speaks in emojis? I mean, I guess that's a thing that can happen, Gaster speaks in hands and junk.
"Something wrong? I can't help but notice."
Going off its behavior and name, I put some real emphasis on the word notice. It flinches. Got you.
Tsundere is a Japanese term for a character development process that depicts a person who is initially cold and sometimes even hostile before gradually showing a warmer, friendlier side over time. The word is derived from the terms tsun tsun ('to turn away in disgust or anger') and dere dere ('to become affectionate'). They're the opposite of a Yandere. Yandere is a Japanese term for a person who is initially very loving and gentle to someone or at least innocent before their devotion becomes destructive in nature, often through violence and/or brutality. The term is derived from the words yanderu (a mental or emotional illness) and dere dere. They are different and yet have one weakness...Wanting the attention of Senpai, the person they have a fondness for. Why do I know all this? Because I'm a big freaking dork! I can use this. I just don't understand why it would have such feelings.
"...H-human ... ...?"
Now to test my theory.
[APPROACH selected.]
[You get close to Tsunderplane. But not too close.]
"Eeeeh? H-human ...?"
It's getting flustered. I'm not proud of this method but if it works to keep me alive, so be it.
"You don't mind me getting close, right?"
[Tsunderplane looks over, then turns up its nose.]
"Huh!? Y-you sicko!"
It spins on heels it doesn't have and nearly takes my head. This ain't going to be easy.
The mini planes return but something's off. Six planes attacked me before, but now there's only three. Easier than before yet still dangerous. That smoke is noxious and obnoxious.
[Tsunderplane gives you a condescending barrel roll.]
"Don't think I'm going easy on you! It's not like I LIKE you."
Your actions say otherwise, so does that growing blush. Time for phase two.
[FLIRT selected.]
[You tell Tsunderplane it has an impressive wingspan.]
"I must say, birds wish they could have wings like that. Very cool."
It covers its nosecone in its wingtips.
"Ah...is that true...?"
"Why would I lie?"
I think this is working. It summons the large planes again but this time the planes are surrounded by narrow green auras and the smoke trails aren't moving. Curiosity has me touching the green and finding it does two things. One, it doesn't hurt me. And two, it's blushing more excitedly. After touching four Tsunderplane is practically glowing, or it could be the headlights. And when that last sixth plane passes Tsunderplane looks away shyly and starts to give off the smell of an airport perfume counter. Maybe just one more to seal the deal.
[FLIRT selected.]
[You tell Tsunderplane it has cute winglets.]
"Awww...Those wingtip fences are so cute! Then again, on such an adorable aircraft, that's to be expected."
It loses its mind. Jetting high up and aileron rolls three times before zipping off into the distance.
[YOU WON!]
[You earned 0 XP and 60 gold.]
Damn! That's some gold! Much needed due to spending all my gold in Waterfall so long ago.
"Not my worse fight but one of the more interesting ones. Till we meet again, Tsunderplane-chan."
I wave to where I saw Tsunderplane fly off and return to my journey. However, this is short-lived once again, but not by a monster. I think this is one of the obstacles Mettaton told me about. The land is broken. Vents shoot out big gusts of steam. I think he intends for me to use these to traverse the area since there are painted red arrows on the one in front of me and the one across from it. The flaw in this plan of his is this...In trying to have seen any of this, I ended up looking down.
Sweat begins to slide down my brow, but not from the heat. My wide eyes can't look away from the high as hell drop to lava that I'm meant to cross. My body starts to tremble. My breathing harsh. I'm going into a panic.
[Snowdin: Skeleton House in present time]
That was a stressful fight to watch. The massive damage the human took at the start made it clear she had been stripped of her armor, adding harsher levels of difficulty to an already challenging task. But they know her well by this point. She's clever. She's adaptable. She's stubborn as hell. And she knows they're likely watching.

Toriel's motherly heart was swelling. This one. This was the one she believed could survive in this hell. And her non-violent victory against the Tsunderplane made it more clear that her daughter wasn't so much the child she believed her to be.
"Yeah! Way to go, pussycat!"
Grillby is at least in better spirits. He nearly torched the couch when he thought of Mettaton stripping her of her armor.
"SHE'S NOT MOVING."
True. The human had won the fight but was now frozen in place by the vents, fear dripped from her face.
"uh oh."
This got attention.
"What is wrong? Why does she not continue?"
"pap and me found this out about her when she first came out of the ruins. she's afraid of heights. and if she doesn't move soon, she'll pass out under the pressure."
"But...It's not like she can just leave. And if she falls..."
No one wanted to finish that thought.
"THE HELL...?"
Something new appears and has their attention.
"Flowey?"
[HOTLAND: LAB]
Undyne had been watching the many screens Alphys controls as part of Mettaton's live feed broadcast. Nothing had been particularly interesting, not even that bogus fight with the Tsunderplane. But then...
"The fuck...? Alphys, you seeing this?"
Of course, the lizard was scribbling like a madman on her notepad. This was something new.
"Huh...Show me what ya got, human."
The fish woman resumes watching with a hearty slurp of noddles.
[HOTLAND: LEVEL ONE]
It's happening again. My legs turn to jelly and I drop to my knees. I can't do this. I can't move. What if I fall? I don't want to burn to death. I heard it's not quick either like how movies portray it. The pain overload is what kills you. I don't want that. I ̕ca͢n̛'́t ͢de̶al͏! Í ̸c̷̨a̴n'͡t!͘
*STATIC* HELLO? DARLING? CAN YOU HEAR ME?
The earpiece Mettaton gave me goes off. But something's interfering.
*STATIC* YOU NEED TO GET GOING, DEAR. DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE STEAM. IT WON'T BURN. THOUGH YOU MIGHT GET A BIT TENDER IF YOU PLAY IN THEM TOO LONG.
T̷̵h̷́at̵̨'̧͞s̵̸͞ ́̀not ̷̕͜h́el̴͘̕p̛i̸͜ng͟!̢͟
I feel it starting. The blood dripping from my nose. Why? Why am I so weak?!

Strange energy begins to crackle around me. I don't know what it is and it's freaking me out more!
"There you are..."
Life returns to me upon hearing Flowey's voice.
"You just always seem to...The hell is up with your face?!"
"B̢͢͞ŗ̡̀o̸t̡h̡͟e̵̛r͘̕͞?"
The strange energy slowly dissipates, Flowey being here is calming me down, though the sight still unnerves him.
"Easy now. Just calm down. You don't want to overtax your soul."
"S̨-̀Sơr͡ry̷.̛.͞.I.̶..͢*shaky inhale*I looked down."
Flowey moves over to me and pats my leg with a tiny vine.
"Don't worry, your big brother's here for you."
I give him a nervous smile and wipe my nose.
"So...What's wrong with my face?"
"Uh...Nothing. You look fine."
I look at him flatly.
"I have makeup on, don't I?"
"Well..."
God dang it, Mettaton.
"Fudge it. As long as I'm not dolled up like a clown, ignore it. Right now I need help."
"Fine with me, but first...I want an apology for that stunt at the bar."
I nod.
"I'm sorry. It was a dirty move. But..."
He pouts.
"You wanted to talk to him without me butting in."
I claw the ground.
"...There are things I still can't tell you."
"When? When can you open up to me?"
"Soon. Lots of stuff I know is in pieces. I just need to figure out how it all fits to understand."
"Like what?"
"Well for starters...Getting through this crap."
Flowey looks out at the vents.
"You really can't do this?"
"No. My acrophobia, paranoia, vertigo, and lack of self-confidence prevents it."
"Sheesh. At least your honest."
I sit on my heels and slap my face a few times, trying to psych myself out.
"The body and mind both have their own ways of keeping themselves safe. Even if one of them is tricking the other. My body won't move if my brain keeps telling it no because it feels in danger."
"Hmmm...And I take it you're not up for that blindfold idea again."
I look at him confused.
"Over lava?!"
He sighs.
"Yeah, fair enough."
This sucks.
"Oh! I got an idea. What if I carry you over?"
Flower-goat-boy say what?
"Not to put you down, bro, but I ain't exactly light and I don't want you to hurt yourself trying."
He winks.
"Trust me. I'm stronger than you think."
I don't doubt you, I'm more worried I'll freak out if he does. But what choice do I have? Sit her forever or move forward.
"Okay. But not yet."
"Huh?"
I feel the ground again.
"This is rock and yet you're moving through it..."
"Yeah?"
"Can you scout ahead through this vent thing? Tell me if other monsters or crap is hiding?"
He nods.
"Can do."
He sinks into the ground. Here's hoping he stays out of sight of any hostiles. A few times I see his petal head pop up from time to time, but in areas I can't see I get a bit shook. Especially when he's out of sight for too long. I count the seconds between each puff of steam, giving up because it's too fast. A small rumble off to my side, part of Flowey's stem is protruding but seems to be having trouble coming out. With some wiggling and what looks like some tugging, he emerges yet only partly.
"*strain* H-Hey...I found something you can use."
I'm curious. I help chip some ground away and something metal appears. Looping my finger through a hole, I help him pull this mystery thing out and wow it puts up quite the struggle. With a final double pull from the both of us, the object reveals itself...a frying pan?
"The hell...?"
"I found it at one of the areas off over there. It once belonged to a human that fell a long time ago."
All this mismatch stuff. What were the humans that fell before even doing to fall with such stuff? Whatever, an item gained is better than no items at all.
[You equipped the Nasty Pan.]
[You gain 10 Attack.]
[You don't know if it's covered in old food or gore. Either way, the damage is rather consistent. Consumables items will heal 4 more HP.]
"Damn. Was really hoping for some defense boost."
"Sorry. How uneven does this make your stats now?"
"See for yourself."
He's confused till he CHECKs me.
[Lynsie - LV:1 - HP: 40 ATK: 30 DEF: 11 - Too nice for her own good.]
"What the...? What happened?!"
I stand and stretch.
"I got mugged."
He frowns.
"The robot?"
I answer with a nod and change the line of chatter to current events.
"Was there anyone out there?"
He shakes his head.
"At least that's some good news. So how do we do this?"
He moves back, over to where the path sort-of splits.
"This way."
With no other moves, I follow him to a spot where a vent is missing and he points to the land across it.
"Over there is the exit. If you can not freak out, I should be able to take you over there."
My spine shivers.
"Are you certain you can lift me over? That's at least a ten-foot gap, give or take."
"Trust me. I know what I'm capable of."
I swallow what little courage I have and shut my eyes tight.
"Please, make it quick."
"Don't worry, I got you."
There's silence for a bit. Then something slithers under then over my shoulders and slinks to wrap around my waist. I want to look but when my feet leave the ground my entire body clenches.
"Easy now. No sudden moves."
That doesn't help.
I do my best to block out everything. Like the feel of wind brushing past and intense heat that wafts up from below. My nerves are threatening to go off again. The instant I can feel a foot touch anything solid my eyes shoot open.
"See? Told you I could do it."
He's already on this side with me. Probably moved here first then reached over and carried my dumb frightened ass over. Bless you, super flower-goat-boy! The vines release and I'm once more on terra firma. I use this moment to hug Flowey.
"Thank you!"
He chuckles and now it's two going through Mettaton's show. If only I didn't leave my bag at home. Then he'd be riding with me. Then again, Mettaton would've taken that too and really screwed me over.
FINALLY. AS TOUCHING AS THAT WAS, DARLING, YOU NEED TO GET MOVING. WE'RE ALREADY BEHIND SCHEDULE AS IT IS.
I pop my neck and nod. The sooner I get through this the sooner it ends and we can go home.
"You okay with following me in case of other bull?"
"Oh yeah. You're going to need me. There are more vents past this.
I groan and silently curse everything before walking. Upon entering the north path past the steam vents, we come across another path made of pipework that veers to the right. This would be super chill if it weren't for the freaking lasers!
"This shouldn't be a big deal."
I look down at Flowey funny.
"Dude...Do you not see the lasers?"
He shakes his head.
"Don't think of them like you think they are. Those are made with magic energy. You remember what I told you about orange and light blue magic, don't you?"
It takes a second for that to click in my head. My small smirk lets him know I'm not completely stupid.
"See you on the other side."
He retreats to the ground and has to move through that, not like he can go through metal shit. So I take on this obstacle. There are nine lasers in total that go the order of orange, orange, cyan, orange, cyan, orange, cyan, cyan, and orange, with the cyan ones moving around. So by the logic of magic properties, I move through the orange ones and pause for the cyan ones till it's safe to keep going. In no time I'm at the end, a large metal pillar has a big red switch and out of spite I flip it. This effectively turns the laser off. Sweet! That was easy. Onward I go. The path veers upward and, can you guess, has more of those damn vents. A base one that changes directions, a one on the left and right side as well as in front. The path wants me to go forward but is blocked by a locked door. No doubt each side has a puzzle that opens each lock. Gotta love real-life video game logic.
"Not so bad, right?"
Speaks the emerging flora to my right.
"Still in one piece."
I joke to myself to keep the dumb side of me from saying something to jinx me.
"Need another lift?"
Looking at the gap between vents, it's not so evil as the first ones, maybe about four or five feet.
"I think I can manage this one."
He's relieved, thinking I'm being a big girl and fighting my fear.
"Great! I knew you could...wait...What are you...?!"
Don't think. Just act. Fear can't affect you if you don't realize it's there.
I take a short sprint and make nice bound over to where he's at. He's rather confused.
"The hell? What about your phobia?"
"Easy...Didn't think about it."
I head for the puzzle and he's flabbergasted.
"Wha...but...You still could've used the vents!"
"Nope!"
He catches up to me as I get distracted looking at two monsters sitting at the cliff's edge.
"You scare me something."
"How do you think I feel? I scare myself and I'm the one doing it."
There's a room nearby but these two just pull my attention. There's what appears to be a pale-green dragon in a black business suit and slick shade, like some sort of scaly lawyer. A black wisp-like monsters that reminds me of Grillby, even sporting glasses, in a gray tank-top and red pants drinking something steaming hot, dude looks chill in this heat. They don't seem to notice us and I can hardly hear bits of their chit chat. Something about how they're glad that the reactivated puzzles are preventing them from progressing as they do not want to go to work. They are also muttering some other stuff but I head for the room before they see this random human.
Inside the puzzle room, I'm met by two things. The puzzle itself and a disembodied fox head wearing sunglasses. The fuck am I tripping on?!
"The door leading through the area is closed?"
Dear God, it bounces as it talks and speaks with an upward inflection like valley speak! It hurts my brain. Good news, it has no clue what I am. Yay!
"So I tried the puzzle? But I kept running out of ammo, and it kept restarting?"
"...Bummer."
"And my two co-workers won't help? It's like they don't even wanna go to work?"
"Harsh."
"Why don't you try? Try using the console?"
I shrug and give this thing a little checking out. No real help from the fox so maybe the puzzle will tell me what to do. Oh, look! The convenient "?" icon is super tiny and hidden in the corner while also being somewhat the same color as the background. That's not a dick move, oh no, not in the slightest.
(Shoot the opposing ship!)
(Move the boxes to complete your mission.)
Okay, that's useful. Let's see...Four immovable blocks, two movable ones, and two open spaces. The immovable blocks are in each corner and the movable ones are in my way. And to top it all off, I get only two shots. Scoot the two away, shoot, and puzzle solved.
(CONGRATULATIONS!)
That's one done, another to go.
"Wow? You solved it? I'm impressed? You must be a total nerd?"
...Jackass.
Leaving the room has Flowey grabbing my wrist with a vine and tugging me to get moving.
"Bro, chill, what's wrong?"
"I heard them talking. They've been watching Mettaton's broadcast on their phones."
Yeah, that's our cue to skedaddle.
"Please use the vents this time."
I speed past him much to his chagrin.
"Screw...the...rules!"
I shout with each leap taken. I know deep down he wants to call me dumb and yet I'm kinda proud I'm able to forget about the incredibly high path we're treading that drops into freaking lava. He rejoins me as a non-moving cyan laser seemingly impedes my progress. However, it's waist level in height and nothing is stopping me from crawling underneath it.
"Wow."
"I know, right?"
Like on the right side, the left has the puzzle room and two monsters just hanging out on the cliff. These two monster girls are wearing what look like red and black Japanese school uniforms. The fuck? Not sure what's weirder, everyone's bravery by being that close to death or how the hell they got those clothes. Either way, one girl is purple with possible tentacle hair and has red eyes with black sclera, she is so clearly a tom-boy with her red back facing cap and skateboard. While the other girl is made up of lime green flame and gives off this way too innocent vibe for being here and with the bad-girl. Hotland does seem more and more to be Grillby's former home. How many more fire elementals live here?
"You think the laser has them stuck here?"
"Maybe. I know I wouldn't crawl on the floor with a skirt like that."
I enter the room and thankfully there's no head laying around that speaks in headache-inducing jabber. Let's see...Are the rules the same?
(Shoot the opposing ship!)
(Move the boxes to complete your mission.)
Yep. Same rules but different layout. Five immovable blocks, six movable ones, and five open spaces. The three immovable ones are in corners, one is above a corner, and the last is touching the corner of a corner block. And once more I get two shots. The movable blocks from a backward jacked letter C. This one is a bit more complex. The majority of the blocks move in one push. I have to try this a few times before I'm able to have it clear enough to shoot through one block and then the target.
(CONGRATULATIONS!)
If my calculations are correct, the door should be open now and further progress can be made. I leave the room and notice the laser is off. Flowey is also nowhere to be seen, probably due to the girls having moved from their original spot.
"Finally! Someone turned off that laser!"
Don't thank me, I'm just awesome.
"Now that we're free we can... Well, uh, I guess we'll just keep standing here."
"Hm? Nice try, but your loitering technique still needs work."
They chat with themselves. Great time to be invisible.
"Loitering around... What's the point?"
"Beats being in school. Why should we bother going to school, anyway...? What's the point in learning how to make a buncha puzzles? There's GOTTA be a way to cancel school."
"But isn't it summer vacation?"
"...Auuuugh! This world's got no future!"
A bit overly dramatic. Whatever. Back to business. I rush to make my final leap and almost trip on the pipework floor. Yeah...Not gonna be doing this jump thing anymore. Lost my nerve for it. Motion activates the door and it slides opens into the rock.
"Okay, Metta...Here I come."
Going through the door leads me to a small bit of land that turns to the right and three widely spaced vents in a row to reach the next...Is that kitchen linoleum? I can't be seeing that right.
"Seems like you have no choice this time."
Flowey appears.
"Can't at least hurl me across?"
He shakes his head.
"I can't support carrying you that far and I'm not risking you falling to death."
"Yeah, my luck as of late would be that level of crap."
I smack myself a few times to ready my timid nerves.
"Any words of wisdom before I do this?"
He thinks for a moment.
"Beware of chainsaws."
"What?!"
He sinks into the ground and I internally scream...Fuck my life!
Stepping onto the vent blocks the steam for a bit. The building pressure launches me from one vent to the next. By the time I reach solid ground I'm about ready to vomit my still-beating heart out.
"I hate heights!"
I'm gonna punch him. I swear, even if it breaks my hands, I will beat the shit out of Mettaton for this.
Still shaken I crawl my way into the next area. It's very weird. As if the linoleum wasn't odd, I'm now in what looks like a kitchen set. Oh...Oh god no...This can't mean...
"Don't tell me this is what I think it is."
As if on cue, low and behold, my metal master of moronic mayhem hovers down from the heavens wearing a chef's hat.
"OHHHH YES! WELCOME, DASTARDLIES, TO THE UNDERGROUND'S PREMIER COOKING SHOW!"
(Cooking with a Killer Robot)
"PRE-HEAT YOUR OVENS, BECAUSE WE'VE GOT A VERY SPECIAL RECIPE FOR YOU TODAY! WE'RE GOING TO BE MAKING...A CAKE! DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE TO BE EXACT."
Two of his hands stretch out and grab me, despite my pointless clawing at the floor, to present me to cameras I can't see.
"MY LOVELY ASSISTANT HERE WILL GATHER THE INGREDIENTS. EVERYONE GIVE THEM A BIG HAND!"
An applause sound effect goes off as well as confetti falls. I glare at myself.
"*mutter* You better have my stuff as promised or I will purposefully make sure your ratings bomb."
He pulls me in so only I hear him.
"*WHISPER* DO THAT AND YOU CAN KISS YOUR ITEMS GOODBYE."
I snort a huff and try to put on a smile. This seems to be what he wants.
"WE'LL NEED SUGAR, MILK, FLOUR, CHOCOLATE, AND EGGS. GO FOR IT, SWEETHEART!"
He's being overly flashy and fantastic. I should play along...but I'm too pissy and bitter. Plus calling me sweetheart irks me. You want a nice human? I'll be so sweet your blood sugar will spike!
"*giggles* Golly-gee. Thanks for having me on your show, Mr. Mettaton. Let's make the bestest best cake ever!"
This is stooping to new levels of pettiness that I might want to find a therapist for later. I'm pushing for a nearly unbelievable level of childish innocence as I scope the set and gather ingredients. All the while he watches every little skip and mean-spirited twirl I make before bring it all back to him a dopey smile.
"All done, Mr. Mettaton. This is going to be the most choco-lickity-yummiest cake in the universe!"
He puts two of his hands together and one on my head before sighing.
"DARLING...I LOVE WHAT YOU'RE DOING, I REALLY DO. BUT FOR THE SAKE OF THE AUDIENCE, COULD YOU LOWER THE CUTE DOWN A BIT?"
I give the puppy dog eyes.
"Am I in trouble? Did I do something wrong?"
He flinches and without thinking he slams my head into the counter. I roar and cover my face, trying not to burst into a hurricane of swears while he goes about the show.
"PERFECT! GREAT JOB, BEAUTIFUL! WE'VE GOT ALL OF THE INGREDIENTS WE NEED TO BAKE THE CAKE! MILK... SUGAR... FLOUR... CHOCOLATE... EGGS..."
He gasps suddenly while I check if my nose is broken. Good news, it's not.
"OH MY! WAIT A MAGNIFICENT MOMENT! HOW COULD I FORGET! WE'RE MISSING THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT!"
I wipe a small bit of blood off my forehead.
"And what ingredient is that? This was everything you told me to get."
Some of my attitude is coming out but not too much.
"WHY, IT'S NOTHING WE HAVE TO GO SEARCHING FOR. YOU BROUGHT IT HERE WITH YOU."
I look at him funny until I see him pulling two chainsaws out from under the counter.
"A HUMAN SOUL!"
My heart sinks as he revs them up. Yet when he begins to do a slow methodical approach...My brain remembers to do one of my many pointless talents. Poking holes things with needless but true knowledge.
"Objection!"
The nerd in me is giddy for being able to make him pause with that.
"YES?"
I slap the counter.
"This recipe is bogus. What kind of cake calls for an ingredient that is so rare and priceless as a human soul? I submit my dumb argument, because I'm willing to admit the idiocy of saying this, that a human soul would serve a far greater purpose than being used for baked goods. Such as breaking the barrier. What say you, Metta? Do you have anything to back up your reasoning to use my soul in this cake?"
I wonder if Napsablook has an emulator on his PC? I want to play Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney now.
His screen blinks a little in thought. Before one of his arms leaves the murder weapon to go somewhere off set and return to put a can on the counter.
"...What is that?"
"THAT, MY DEAR, IS MTT-BRAND ALWAYS-CONVENIENT HUMAN-SOUL-FLAVOR-SUBSTITUTE! AVAILABLE AT ANY OF MY FINE RETAIL MARKETS! PROOF THAT THIS IS SOMETHING RATHER COMMON DOWN HERE AND THEREFORE, NOT A COMPLETELY UNREASONABLE IDEA AS TO WHY USE OF YOUR SOUL WOULD BE IN COOKING."
I stare dumbfounded at this can.
"This...This thing holds stuff that tastes like a human soul?"
He turns one chainsaw off and leans on it like a villain does with a cane.
"IT IS WHAT IT IS, DARLING. THE LABEL DOESN'T LIE. I SELL ONLY THE BEST. AND I GUARANTEE, IF YOU TRY IT, YOU'D NEVER KNOW THE DIFFERENCE."
My mouth opens but nothing comes out. I put my hands together, hold them to my face, and ponder the meaning of life."
"Metta, my dude...This is some messed up stuff right here."
"HOW SO?"
I sigh through my nose and lose my ability to be subtle.
"You do know that souls can be used as sexual organs, right?"
He slips from his cool pose in shock.
"DARLING! CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY! THIS IS LIVE AND KIDS MIGHT BE WATCHING."
"Do not change the subject by insinuating children don't have the ability to understand. Kids are always learning and they find things out quicker than others give credit. Such as their body's and, because it's a monster's core, soul. You can not expect me to believe that knowledge of that caliber is unknown."
I grab the can harshly.
"Knowing that, the fact this can exists and as you claim is indistinguishable from the real deal, it insinuates that you or someone else on your staff knows what a human soul tastes like. Meaning...Someone has had oral sex with a human soul."
He falls over at my accusations. Chainsaws long forgotten. But I'm not done.
"Further more, this can opens a can of worms in its implications. Forgive my armature knowledge on the subject, but in the old myths above, there is no mention of monsters feeding on human souls. Such things usually are connected to demons. So this concept is either new to the Underground or you're making it up purely for this show!"
My head is swimming with weird thoughts and I'm unable to keep them to myself.
"Fearing that the humans would one day turn on monster kind and slaughter their people, absorb their few boss souls and become dominant over them, the monsters decided to launch a preemptive strike. That's what the old text said, but...If this feeding on souls it true..."
I glare at the can, not liking the thoughts it's making me get.
"Then humans had a reason to seal you away."
Those words are bitter and I spit them getting angry, squeezing the can with force.
"Tell me I'm wrong."
It crunches, metal splitting to cut into my hand before furiously throwing it at the fake window behind us.
"Tell me I'm wrong! Don't make me feel bad for humanity!"
I'm physically shaking. My rage tapering on the verge. It's not even towards anyone. How can it? What's in the past is there forever. But this...Don't tell me this is real and in the present.
"Please..."
I lick my hand, trying to focus on the sting and hint of copper to calm me down. Finally able to recover, Mettaton dusts himself off. Taking note of my behavior and picking his words carefully.
"WOW, DARLING. SUCH RAW EMOTION. THE PASSION. FEAR. ANGER. AND DESPERATION. IT'S PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!"
A low snarl from me reminds him that I'm in no mood for his fabulous side.
"BUT TO ANSWER YOUR RATHER INTERESTING QUERY...NO. IT'S NOT TRUE."
A small sensation of relief begins to hit me as he opens a compartment under his screen and pulls out a small advertisement poster.
"I FIGURED THIS IDEA WOULD WORK MAINLY BECAUSE..."
He lightly touches my face.
"YOU'RE SWEETER THAN ANY DESERT~."
With the whole 'about to kill me' and fucked up line of thought thing that happened seconds ago, his little flirt has no effect and I slap his hand away. He's taken by this yet keeps his composer.
"BUT I SEE NOW THAT WAS FOOLISH. USING YOU IN A SIMPLE COOKING SHOW WAS A MASSIVE UNDERESTIMATION. ESPECIALLY TO PROMOTE MY NEWEST PRODUCT."
He crumbs the add and tosses it away.
"BUT AFTER THAT SCENE, I CAN KISS THOSE SALES GOODBYE. IT WAS WORTH A SHOT THOUGH. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WORKS WITHOUT TAKING RISKS."
I am so done with all of this it ain't even funny.
"YET THIS WASN'T A TOTAL LOST. I LEARNED YOU HAVE A REAL TALENT."
I eye him cautiously, getting the bleeding to at last stop.
"CLEARLY A COURTROOM DRAMA IS PERFECT FOR YOU!"
I hate my luck.
"I NEED TO MAKE SOME CALLS! GET A SET MADE! OOOOOH! THE SCANDALOUS SCRIPT IDEAS I HAVE!"
"I think you're jumping the gun a bit early on this."
He puts a finger to my lips.
"NOT NOW, DARLING, I'M WORKING."
I gesture to where I assume a camera is that he's nuts.
[RING-RING]
His phone goes off.
"THIS BETTER BE IMPORTANT! I'M ON AIR RIGHT NOW!"
Damn it. I can't hear the caller.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE WON'T MOVE?! YOU TELL HER..."
He's cut off.
"W-WHAT?! HOW MANY OF YOU ARE THERE LEFT? ...JUST YOU?! DAMN IT, BUGERPANTS, SO HELP ME IF THIS IS A PLOY TO GET OUT OF YOUR SHIFT..."
While he's distracted, I use this time to move the chainsaws away and out of sight. No need for them to come back into play.
"WAIT...SAY THAT LAST PART AGAIN. ARE YOU CERTAIN IT'S HIS POST?"
Post? What post? Who's post?
"*HUFF* FINE. RETURN TO YOUR POST. I'LL DEAL WITH THIS MYSELF."
He hangs up and is not too happy.
"*MUMBLE* DAMN SPIDER AND HER STUPID PET, KILLS MY MINIONS AND STILL DENIES MY BUSINESS DEALS!"
"You okay?"
My voice snaps him out of his thoughts and he calms down.
"UM...A CHANGE IN PLANS HAS COME UP. YES! DUE TO SOME SET ISSUES AND TIME CONSTRAINTS, OUR SHOW RUNS ON A STRICT SCHEDULE YOU KNOW, I'M GOING TO PERSONALLY DROP YOU OFF AT THE NEXT LEG OF THE GAUNTLET."
Well, that sounds like a load of bullshit. But my dumb brain has to dumb brain.
"So what you're telling me is we're not even going to finish this segment by making the damn cake?"
He pulls me into an uncomfortable side embrace.
"I KNOW, IT'S HEARTBREAKING. BUT YOU SHOULD'VE MOVED FASTER AT THE START OF ALL THIS."
"I have a fear of heights!"
"NOW WE'LL JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH NOT KNOWING HOW GOOD THE CAKE COULD'VE BEEN."
"Don't ignore me."
"OR HOW MUCH MORE DELICIOUS IT COULD BE IF EATEN OFF MY BODY."
"The fuck did you say?!"
"BUT COME ON, DARLING, I'M ONLY MESSING WITH YOU AND OUR MALICIOUS VIEWERS. HAVEN'T YOU EVER SEEN A COOKING SHOW BEFORE? I ALREADY BAKED THE CAKE AHEAD OF TIME! SO FORGET IT! BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT GETTING ANY OF IT!"
"Is the screaming in my ear necessary?"
"WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT! RIGHT ABOUT NOW IS WHEN WE HAVE OUR COMMERCIAL BREAK! SO STAY TUNED TO THAT SCREEN AND CONTINUE WATCHING AS OUR DEAR DARLING DARES TO DART FORTH INTO DANGER ONCE MORE!"
"Can you at least tell me I don't have to do any more vent platforming?"
"SORRY, BUT I'D BE LYING IF I DID."
I start trying to swear but I end up roaring out in meek frustration.
"SEE YOU ALL AGAIN REAL SOON."
A few seconds go by and he lets me go.
"OKAY, WE DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME..."
He moves to the sink and opens the cabinets under it.
"WE HAD A DEAL. DESPITE THAT LITTLE SHOW YOU PUT ON, I AM IF ANYTHING A MONSTER OF MY WORD."
He tosses me a bag with his face on it. Taking the hint, I open it and find my missing gear. Though...no phone. I take this small victory without a fight. I'm fairly certain I know who has it anyway. That cat is so getting skinned. I equip my items and CHECK my stats.
[ HP: 40 ATK: 45 DEF: 27]
"Someday, I swear my defense will be decent, damn it!"
"ALL SET?"
I may look ridiculous with all this all but it's not like I was a supermodel before.
"Yeah, I'm good. Thank you."
"UM..."
"What?"
"I WANT TO APOLOGIZE."
I scoff.
"Forget it."
"NO. I...WHAT I DID WAS STUPID. I SKIMMED OVER THINGS AND WASN'T EXPECTING HOW YOU'D REACT. A GOOD SHOWMAN IS MORE PREPARED AND KNOWS HIS CAST BETTER. FOR THAT...I'M SORRY"
No matter the mood I might be in, I know how hard it is to swallow one's pride and admit a wrong. I just wish he wasn't such a flip-flopper because this personality switching is making it difficult to trust him fully.
"*sigh* ...I forgive you. But don't ever pull that kind of crap again. Got it? I like you monsters. I like being here. I don't want to feel bad for my kind and see THIS punishment as justified."
He nods, or what I take as the equivalent to one for a guy without a neck. With that now all said and done he once again snatches me into his arms and he blasts off like a rocket. Where to? No damn clue.
[HOTLAND: LAB]
"Well, that was disappointing. Freaky, but disappointing."
Undyne collects another bowel to enjoy.
"Not his best move. That's for sure. All that controversial fuss."
Alphys had cut the feed but was still viewing the robot and human.
"Yeah. He didn't even use those chainsaws. Such a wasted opportunity."
"Still, the way she interpreted all that from a simple can of spice...And that reaction..."
Theories were coming to Alphys.
"Definitely something to remember for future use."
Undyne takes a long slurp of ramen.
"It's a freak, Alphys. Plain and simple."
Alphys's companion's lack of imagination made her sneer.
"At least he's prolonging her activity. That provides data. And that's all that matters."
Undyne rolls her eye.
"Still...I wonder what that phone call was about?"
Alphys, being the one that sees all, knows the answer to that question. She just finds it more interesting to see if her hot fish friend can figure it out for herself. Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.
[Snowdin: Skeleton House in present time]
They weren't sure what they just watched. Such a strange buildup and quickly smothered show. Sure this wasn't over but no one honestly thought that second showing was going to be over in about twelve minutes. Still...The lingering questions remained when the commercials played.
"This is nerve-wracking."
"I know. But at least there's some good news. He's moving her further. She'll be done faster."
"I suppose that is true."
"OR SHE'LL BE KILLED QUICKER."
Toriel and Grillby glare at Papyrus.
"WHAT? I'M BEING REALISTIC BY SAYING THE OPTION YOU'RE IGNORING."
The glares and fire strengthen.
Papyrus takes the hint and walks away. Maybe Sans had some sort of idea and won't want to beat the shit out of him as the others do.
"you need to work on your people skills, bro."
He growls but that's it.
"i got an idea as to what happened near the end."
"REALLY?"
"yeah. i think someone tipped him off about my post there."
"YOU SURE?"
"got no other clue as to why he'd move her himself and not let her walk."
"HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK HE'LL HAVE HER SKIP?"
"who's to say? i only know what i can see from my post. and it ain't much."
"WHY DO YOU HAVE SO MANY POSTS?"
"do ya know anybody else that can teleport?"
"...GOOD POINT."
"you sound underwhelmed."
"I DON'T KNOW...I JUST DON'T SEE IT. YOU WORKING THAT MUCH? IT'S WEIRD."
"if it makes it less weird, i sell hot dogs at those stations."
"THAT...THAT MAKES MORE SENSE."
The television flickers suddenly. The commercials end and the human is back onscreen. Her exact location is odd in that there doesn't seem to be a path to leave on. There's a signpost they can't read and random cacti. Among the positives, she is sporting her equipables again and thus have her stats boosted. On the negative side...she isn't there alone for very long.

Text
To anyone who believes that Oscar is going to be completely erased by the Merging of the Two Souls with Ozpin then I encourage you to go back and rewatch the conversation between Ozpin and Blake from V2CH2.
I’m pretty sure that this has probably been a point of discussion in the past but I personally didn’t realize this until I did my recap and I’ve been meaning to talk about it for some time.
In rewatching that particularly scene knowing what I knew about the true nature of Ozpin at the time, it’s only then when I realized that we’ve already gotten a clear example of what it’s going to be like with the Merge.
It’s not so much one personality eclipsing the other while the previous soul disappears. As a matter of fact, if I had to describe it based on my observation from V2, it feels more like it’s going to be one person embodying personality traits from both original souls that they can switch between while still being the current soul at heart?
What I mean by that is, when Ozpin inevitably merges with Oscar and becomes a part of him; as Oscar inherits Ozpin’s memories, a part of Oz will still be retained in Oscar’s personality. But it will still be Oscar who you mostly see.
I’d also like to think this is adamant on how others perceive Oscar as well. Like I’m imagining the people who knew Oscar personally like Ruby Rose and the JNR trio for example will wish to continue to see him as only Oscar. But for folks like General Ironwood and even Qrow Branwen, that will be a coin toss for them since they mostly know Oscar as Oz. So it wouldn’t surprise me if they continue to talk to Oscar as Oz. So when it comes to them, Oscar will channel the side of himself that he retained from Ozpin but when it comes to her own confidantes---his own Inner Circle of most trusted allies, he’ll more be himself.
I’d like to think that Oscar’s eyes and tone of voice might change to indicate the difference between when he’s channeling himself and when he’s channelling  the persona of Oz---the previous culmination of the souls.
In reviewing the scene from V2, I noticed that Oz’s eyes sort of changed colour at some point during his talk with Blake.
For the sake of rationalizing myself, I’m going to refer to the original Ozpin as “Oz” (since he was his own person before) and the other soul with him at the time as “The King” as in the King of Vale.
In watching the scene, from the start of the conversation---Oz’s eyes were their natural brown colour and he maintains a warm, welcoming tone with Blake.
Tumblr media
However at some point---the moment where the Faunus are mentioned--- Oz switches to a more serious tone. His eyes are still their natural brown colour but there seems to be a more, icy haze to it. This is the point where I interpreted The King intervening to talk to Blake. So Oz is channeling his predecessor's persona, not his own.
Tumblr media
The King’s persona is maintained for the remainder of Oz’s talk with Blake until her leaves. But before departing, Oz looks back at Blake to assure her that she could’ve talked to him at anytime. At this point, Oz is back to his original self and it’s indicated by not only his gentler tone of voice but also by his eyes returning to their original dark brown colour.
Tumblr media
I’d like to think, only the people who really knew the two souls individually on a more personal level would be able to spot the difference. But I guess the point I’m trying to get at here is that both minds will be there even after the Merge occurs.
Ironwood’s remark to Oscar in V7CH7 definitely made me consider this thought:
“It feels strange, knowing a part of me helps come up with all of this.” “You’ll get used to it, I’m sure. Eventually, you wouldn’t know who’s who anymore.”
Seriously each time, Ironwood briefly mentions the Merge to Oscar, I can’t help but thing that there is an unspoken history between Ozpin and the General that transcend two lives. Like I’m imagining that James must’ve met Oz when he was once in Oscar’s shoes---sharing a body with his predecessor and the shuffling of the minds was still evident to tell them apart.
Until one day, that stopped being the case. You can tell that Ironwood is talking from that experience of being an ally to both souls and I sincerely wish we could get a full conversation of Oscar just probing James with more questions of how much he knew regarding the Merge and what his history with Oz was life both pre and post Merge was like.
I’d like to think that Oscar and Ozpin are going to blend together so seamlessly, that you really wouldn’t be able to tell that they were once two different minds from differing walks of life. However I’d also like to believe that at heart, inspite of this big change that is to come to him, Oscar will always be himself. He’ll just have a part of Oz there with him forever that only he can tell.
And for the people who knew Oscar and got to know him outside of Oz, for them it will be a choice on who they continue to see him as. Himself or Oz?
So yeah, I definitely do encourage folks to go back and watch the talk between Oz and Blake from V2.  Even though it was Oz talking to Blake, you can’t help but get the impression that two personas were talking to her---one that was more firm but still respectful and another that was compassionate and understanding.
I’d like to think that back then, the more serious side of Ozpin’s personality was what he retained from Wizard before him---Phadrig: The King of Vale. Whereas the more compassionate side of Oz, the one who brought Ruby a plate of cookies during their first meeting and the one who also advised Blake that she could always come to him for advice, that’s the side that was Ozpin himself. The man he was and has always been pre-Merge.
While I still believe that Oscar’s experience with the Merge is meant to be different and more unique from all  the other Wizards, I’m open to this concept.
As a matter of fact, I kind of have this idea of Oscar and Oz kind of coming together pre-Merge and agreeing to always work together as one regardless of the outcome.
Like let’s say…by the end of this volume, Oscar reconciles with Oz within his mind and rather than the two resume their original partnership of switching back and forth, both souls agree to remain together and work together so that Oscar will never feel like he’s going to lose himself ever again and Oz would never have to feel like he’s let anyone down again because with Oscar at his side, he was never alone exactly as the God of Light envisioned.
So it’s this thing where Oscar and Oz work in sync from henceforth. No more switching. Just as one. So basically it’s a fusion of the two but... it’s not the Merge. It’s more so a choice between both souls to always work as one until the Merge happens, if that makes sense?
And from there, whenever Oscar spoke, you never get the impression that it was just him talking to you. There was a bit of Oz being channeled into his personality as well since Oz is there with him, refusing to leave his side again and the same for Oscar. If that makes sense?
I’m just curious to see what it would be like for Oscar and Oz to work as one without the Merge, y’know what I mean? I know the Merge is something that is ultimately expected to happen, but until such time, we haven’t really received any opportunities for Oz and Oscar to work together. It’s always been one mind in control while the other stays back.
So...how would it be if Oscar one day turns to Oz and is all like “Don’t fight for me or I fight for you. Fight with me so we can fight together as one!”
If Oscar is to do anything remotely bad-ass for later in this season---I hope part of it is him and Oz finally fighting as one.
Not Ozpin taking over and fighting for Oscar. Not Oscar being badass all by himself while Oz stays back.
But Oscar fighting with Ozpin channeling himself into his movements so it looks and feels like the two souls are fighting as one soul; even though they’re not merged.
That’s what I think could be interesting. Oscar and Oz choosing to work together from now with Ozpin promising to never leave Oscar’s side again. At least until the Merge happened and even then, I don’t think either will know the difference since by then they would’ve grown accustomed to working in harmony with one another. So it becomes second nature.
In a way, this also helps play into my longstanding Pinehead headcanon of Oscar being the one true Ozma. If it is revealed that Oscar is Ozma’s original body while Oz is the current version of Ozma’s soul, then the two of them coming together---body and soul---has always been in the cards.
Only this time, unlike other lives; Oscar and Ozpin’s merge would be as different as Oscar’s experience as a Wizard of Light. Instead of their union representing another life in the cycle being taken, it would be return of a hero are “Ozma” is finally made whole again for the first time since his very first life.
Buuuuuuuuut....y’know, these are just my theories. For now, I’m just going to safely place my bets on Oscar and Oz coming together to fight as one. That’s something I’ve been hoping for since V6 so who knows? Maybe it might happen for this season’s finale. We’ll see.
