In which an angel meets his soulmate

You blink at the man sprawled across the forest floor, limbs out at different angles. His blond hair is on the longer side, and he has a smattering of freckles across the bridge of his nose.

A pair of massive wings stick out from his back, grey feathers drooping onto the dirt. You rub at your eyes to check that you’re not imagining things.

“Hello?” you eventually say. You look around for a stick to poke him with. “You alive?”

He doesn’t respond.

You manage to locate a stick, although it’s more of a log, and attempt to heave it over to him. It’s a lot heavier than you can lift, so you settle for a twig barely longer than your index finger.

You use it warily, leaning as far away from him as you can whilst still in stick-reach. The branch brushes his shoulder and he stirs.

You flinch back with a shriek.

“Oh my- You’re alive!” You press a hand to your pounding chest. “I don’t know why I would have preferred you dead, but… It’s because the government’s gonna find me, isn’t it?”

He lifts his head, leaves clinging to his hair. “W- What?”

“They’re gonna dissect you, and they’re gonna interrogate me.” You’re hyperventilating now. “Shoot! This is so bad- I’m gonna- We’re gonna-“

“Who are you?” he asks, eyes locked on you as you panic. “How did I get here?”

“Please tell me you’re a cosplayer,” you beg. “I can’t deal with this!”

He slowly stands. He wobbles and his wings are still dragging on the ground, but he stands. 

“I don’t understand.” He frowns and looks down at himself. “I feel so… Who are you?”

You tug at your hair. “I’m sorry, I’m sure you need mental support right now, but this is horrendous. The government is gonna lock me away forever!”

His eyes narrow a fraction. “No, they won’t. Because you’ll take me with you, and I’ll keep you safe.”

“What?” You gape at him in shock. “Why would you do that?”

“You can’t feel it?” He traces a hand down his chest. “The connection? The bond between us? It’s calling to me.”

“You’re crazy.” You shake your head and back away. “I found a crazy man in the woods and he’s going to murder me.”

“No!” he insists, holding out his hands in a calming motion. “This happens sometimes! Sometimes an angel is chosen to protect someone!”

You pinch the bridge of your nose in exasperation. “All I wanted was a quiet walk! I wanted some fresh air!”

“What’s your name? I’m Felix.” He smiles brightly, nose scrunching up. “And I’ll protect you, so don’t worry.”

You tell him your name with a heavy sigh, giving up on any hope as he walks to your side. One of his wings goes out to shield you.

“I don’t see what I need protecting against,” you weakly say. Your mind is still reeling. There’s a winged man standing next to you.

“Neither do I, but there must be something if I’m here with you.” Felix squints at you. “Any vengeful relatives?”

“No,” you reply.

“Father in the mafia?” 

You shake your head. “No.”

“Mother in the mafia?” Felix tries next.

“Really not. She volunteers at a rescue shelter.” You start to walk back to the parking lot. You hear Felix rushing to follow, leaves crunching under him.

Somehow you are able to smuggle him into your car, putting him in the backseats. There was no way he would fit in the front with you.

The elevator ride up to your apartment is harrowing, narrowly avoiding the old lady a couple doors down. You and Felix duck behind a wall and he giggles quietly until she leaves.

“Shut up!” You smack his shoulder as you both sprint to your door. You unlock it quickly and shove Felix inside first.

Felix watches you shut the door, raising his eyebrows. “This is quite the place you have.”

You look around your home, frowning slightly. “I know it’s not much, but it’s good enough for me.”

“No, I like it!” he promises. “It’s very you. Your things really prove that this is your house with your style.”

You smile softly and brush your hand over his cheek fondly as you pass. “Thanks, Felix.

Felix freezes, entire body tensing in place.

“Felix?” you warily ask. “What’s wrong?”

He stares down at you, pupils wide. “I’m sorry, I-“

“Felix?” You take a step back as his fists clench and unclench. When he tugs at his hair and gets closer to you, you continue backwards.

“I don’t-“ He rubs at his face and groans. “Oh, this is bad.”

“Just tell me what’s happening!” you exclaim. “Felix!”

He curls into a ball, wings wrapped around himself. “I need you to listen to me very carefully-“

“Holy shit do you have a bomb strapped to your chest?” you hiss under your breath, scrambling away. You trip backwards over a wayward slipper and let out a cry as you fall.

Felix crawls atop you, thighs on either side of your waist. His mouth is parted as his breaths come out ragged.

“So my friend Hyunjin was tired of me being lonely, and because he’s what you would call a Cupid he decided to find me a soulmate,” Felix rambles. He pauses to swallow, throat flexing. “And- And I guess it’s you, and he teamed up with Changbin and Minho to send me here and-“

“Soulmates?” You blink at him. “Felix, you sound crazy. Actually this whole thing is insane so I guess I’ll believe you.”

“And if you tell me you don’t want this I promise I’ll go and leave you alone but once you meet your soulmate it’s pretty much that-“ Words are tumbling out of Felix’s mouth almost too fast for you to track. “And I’m so sorry for involving you in this but Hyunjin is a little-“

“Who are these people?” You glance to make sure that the door is shut.

Blocking tags is inneffective because Tumblr does not have enforcement of tags being standardized, or even present, meaning people who are susceptible cannot block everything that is dangerous to them.

That's a fair point, but I don't really see a way to warn for every potential trigger. I was under the assumption that someone opening the form was agreeing to potentially see a character they do not want to see. I am the 'Every Character Ever' poll blog, there is an understanding that there will be a wide range of characters from a wide range of medias.

On tumblr, you're also right that the tag system is not the best. I too have tags I block and still end up seeing things I'd rather not, but that has more to do with the fact that many people tag with several varieties of the same tag, making it difficult to cover everything. I use a very specific system of '"#character" "#media"', with no censoring the name of either thing. If someone wants me to tag something a particular way, I'm more than happy to oblige.

I understand that you're concerned about seeing something you don't want to, but respectfully, I don't really see what else I can do, apart from removing arbitrary characters, which I am not going to do. I've done my part to make this blog as accessible and easy to navigate as possible, but if you don't like it, you can block this blog and move on. I apologize that I'm not able to help curate your tumblr experience, but at a certain point, you need to understand that is just not how I do things here.

i wanna talk about this mv for a little longer bc it’s just way too cute!!! so!!! these are just a few little things i loved about the mv and the story it told~~

first off!!! i love how nagisa was the one to pick her up and send her off!!!! he definitely just wanted to spend some extra time with her, didn’t he? especially since he also went running with her

I’m not defending Billie in the least or anything, and she is an adult and is responsible for her words and actions, but I’m just saying… She was a child star whose family’s entire existence revolves around her career and has since she was a young teenager. Which can be lovely for support, sure, but could also lead to limited outside guidance or perspective on her career. (Look, I know little about her family other than watching her documentary on Apple a few years ago.) I’m just saying there could be an echo chamber of influence in her circle leading to people enabling short-term resentment and pettiness instead of calculating how to play the long game. The fact that her own management was obtuse enough to be liking unsavoury tweets about another high profile artist on a public account is evidence enough that her larger team’s judgment is perhaps not the best to put it mildly.

Obviously it’s not a great look to vocally criticize *checks notes* selling more physical copies of albums, selling special digital editions of albums, releasing long form content and putting on an intricate show for fans when that’s the industry standard that you have to aspire to, and more importantly, even worse to make it seem you’re above it all while actively pursuing some of those things. Eventually she (along with any other artist coming up) is going to have to find that you do in fact have to show you care to have the kind of longevity that the big names have. She might just skate through this one because her fanbase is young and will support her, but eventually, she will have to have the product to back this all up.

I don’t know what I’m really saying here other than who you surround yourself with absolutely matters.

Sorry if this is an annoying question, but how is the scarlet witch comic doing with sales right now? I’m worried it might get canceled because of a tweet the writer posted like a year or more ago that the series wasn’t doing too hot (apologies if this is too vague). That being said I’m not going to buy any of the comics due to the boycott.

As far as I know, the book is guaranteed another six issues, including this month's. There are listings for up to #10, plus the trade paperback. It's too soon to say what will happen after that-- it's almost half a year away. We probably won't get a clear idea of what's next until February, January at the earliest.

Generally speaking, books like Scarlet Witch-- a solo title for a character who, popular though she may be, has never had a long-form ongoing series-- are always in danger of getting cancelled. Sales are a big part of that, but it's honestly pretty arbitrary. I do remember Orlando saying, pretty early in the run, that he wasn't sure how long the series would go for, and reminding readers that preorders are the best way to guarantee its longevity. That might sound grim, but it's unfortunately pretty normal. I believe in this case, it was in response to a fan question along the lines of "will we see so-and-so," with the answer being, "if the series runs long enough and there's time to include them, but it's too soon to promise anything." Again, that's a standard outlook for this type of book.

So, if you're thinking of a post from last year, that might be what you're remembering. It doesn't mean the book was doing poorly, only that keeping the sales numbers up is, unfortunately vital. And right now, if you count both volumes of SW, plus Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver, Orlando's run is set to break a record at 24 issues, and has been consistently in publication for two and half years, with only a brief hiatus in the middle. That's the longest ongoing title Wanda's ever had, by a significant margin. I think that's a sign of success, and I'm grateful for it, no matter where it ends. I wish more people were focused on that.

I do think that relaunching the series in the middle was a mistake, and it definitely makes the numbers look worse than they are. The most recent issues have not been top sellers, but that decline is not unusual at this point in a longer run. But people on social media, particularly twitter, have a really bad attitude about this book and are constantly going out of their way to create a negative atmosphere in the fandom. Fearmongering that the book will be cancelled is absolutely a part of that. It's not worth engaging with.

ig my 'unpopular opinion' (hate that term) is that lwj Should feel bad about how he treated wwx, and I'm glad he does, because that pushes him to grow as a character and make difference choices in the future. he should feel bad that he sided with the passive and corrupt clans instead of trusting wwx and being more proactive in protecting all those people. on the flipside jc's grief and misery surrounding wwx never seems to include regrets about what HE could have done differently, so he doesn't undergo any of that positive character growth, he just blames everyone around him and lashes out and sinks deeper into bitterness and contempt and fury. if he had thought about the consequences of his choices a little more, maybe he could have taken some responsibility for how it all went down too and like. acted differently when wwx returned.

but despite him going on about how family/clan is more important than anything, he doesn't even try to trust wwx, he just assumes the worst of him. and ik he's being manipulated and he's got trauma related to being abandoned, and wwx wasn't the most communicative about what was happening, but clearly he was trying to protect a group of innocent people and a child, so why couldn't jc extend to wwx an iota of good faith and like. back him up since this was clearly so important to him and also there are literal farmers and a toddler being threatened with murder? jc isn't to blame for wen chao or jgy or su she's actions, but he did have a certain amount of power in his role and he seemed determined not to use it. he publicly cut ties with wwx, allowing public sentiment to build against him, and he folded easily to demands that he kill wen ning despite having an actual argument against that. obviously being attached to the burial mounds community is politically disastrous, but lwj was speaking for wwx at the time too so it's not like jc was entirely alone. if he was a great political mind like I've seen people claim he was, he also could have curried favor with jzx through jyl's connection...idk it was important to wwx and I wish jc had been able to stand up for him or at least was capable of critically analyzing his own actions after the fact
